If there was one thing that you knew for an absolute fact. it would be that volleyball would always be his main priority.
You knew this well before you started dating him, it was part of the reason you refused to admit your true feelings for him. You refused to take him away from his first love. Something that he was so visibly passionate about.
So you stayed on the sidelines, watching wistfully as the boy you had a crush on rose higher and higher, while you stood on the ground looking up in awe. This was comfortable, you were content with just watching and admiring. It was all you thought you were able to do.
Until he had asked you out first.
You had genuinely thought that Tendou was joking when he had told you that the Ushijima Wakatoshi saw you as anything more than one of the team’s managers.
His face was always devoid of emotion. Your interactions were limited to him nodding in thanks as you gave him a towel or water bottle, or him humming in acknowledgment as you relayed to him the notes you took after the most recent practice match.
And yet you found yourself standing in front of him, just outside the gym after practice, heart absolutely racing as he asked you out on a date.
Your first date was awkward to say the least. Having never spoken outside of club activities, you found it hard to keep a conversation flowing as you two sat in a cafe sipping your drinks.
He had walked you back to your dorm that day, but before you could go in, he had grabbed your hand.
You stared in shock at the large hand enveloping yours, “Ushijima?”
Suddenly, you felt a tiny gust of wind and a slight pressure against your forehead. You could only stammer dumbly as you realized the pressure was his lips.
He pulled away after a moment. He was heavily avoiding eye contact and turned his head to the side, but you could see the tips of his ears turning red.
“I don’t know much when it comes to this stuff. But I know I would like to go out again… if that’s okay with you of course.”
You gaped at the boy in front of you “I- um we…” you took a deep breath to centre yourself and smiled “Yes I would like to go out with you again Ushijima.”
Your relationship progressed quite fast after that. More dates, hanging out with him and Tendou in their dorm.
You were there for everything, cheering him on during games, you were the first person he would seek out when he won, you comforted him after a loss.
Your relationship lasted through high school and even university. It wasn’t long before you two ended up moving in together.
When Wakatoshi found his place with the Schweiden Adlers you were ecstatic. You had also just landed a great job and it felt like your two were simply cruising through life with ease.
Unfortunately your seemingly perfect life would never last forever.
Being in the v-league, volleyball seemed to fill his schedule more now than ever. Constant practice, games outside of the city even in other countries sometimes.
You hardly saw Ushijima anymore despite living with him. Even when you did, he was tired or just about to leave for practice.
It felt like you were pushed back into the sidelines. Watching hopelessly as he rose higher and higher, to places where you could not reach. It was no longer comfortable, you could no longer look in awe, but in despair as you watch him slip from the already loose grasp you had on him.
You couldn’t even remember the last time you went on a date. Every time you mentioned doing something in his free time he had brushed you off.
Which led you to now.
You woke up to an empty bed yet again. It was your day off so you weren’t rushing to get out of bed.
Yet you felt off.
The dryness in your mouth and throat is what you felt first. Then how runny your nose was. Finally, the cold sweat you were experiencing.
You were definitely sick.
You groaned to yourself and pulled the blanket to your chin. Hoping that you could possibly sleep it off.
Yet your efforts were in vain. After what felt like hours of trying to fall back asleep you realized that you were just going to feel even more miserable without anything to eat or at least drink.
You pushed yourself up onto your elbows and immediately regretted it. The world spun around you and your entire body shook. You collapsed back onto your pillow and panted at the exertion it took.
As you caught your breath you turned your head towards your bedside table, where your phone sat charging.
Weakly, you lifted your arm and with a bit of effort you were able to grab your phone. As it turned on you winced at how bright the screen was and with bleary eyes you managed to open your contacts.
The words seemed to blend together as you searched through your contacts, you nearly sobbed in relief as your eyes finally focused on the name of your best friend.
You clicked the call button and dropped you hand to beside your ear, preparing for the way your throat would undoubtedly hurt as you spoke.
After a couple rings you heard the person on the other side pick up and you quickly began speaking, desperate to get them to come quickly so that you could hopefully feel better.
“Hey, I’m sorry if you’re busy but do you think you can bring me some drinks and maybe food? i’m not feeling the best and I don’t know if I can get up at all.”
The person on the other end of the phone began talking but you could barely decipher it as your head spun and your body shivered despite how warm you were.
“-/n….y/n?”
You froze at the deep voice on the other side of the phone. You pulled away an looked at the screen, nearly breaking down at the sight of Wakatoshi’s name instead of your friends. Quickly you put it back against your ear
“Ah I’m sorry Toshi. I meant to call a friend you’re probably busy you don’t have to come back home.” you said quickly, actually sitting up as you rambled nervously, reprimanding yourself for interrupting his practice.
You had called and texted him during practice before. At one point he was fine with it, responding during breaks or calling you back once practice had finished. But lately you had been greeted with one worded responses, or you were just ignored.
One time you even tried to pry once he got home from practice, asking him about his odd lack of response. That day, he had turned to glare at you.
“I’m busy y/n. I don’t have time for things like that.”
“You’re sick?” your thoughts were interrupted by his voice again. He used a tone much gentler than the one he had used that day.
“A little bit, nothing to worry about I can just call-“ you cut yourself off with a harsh cough, unable to hold back the whimper as your throat throbbed in protest.
“I’m coming home.”
Whether from his words or the fever you couldn’t tell, but a chill ran down your spine
“N-no toshi you don’t have to I’ll be fine don’t leave practice just because of me”
“I’ll stop by the store for some ingredients don’t get out of bed.”
And with that the call ended. Slowly, you took the phone away from your ear and looked at it in shock. He was leaving practice early. Something you weren’t aware he was willing to ever do.
At least not recently.
Only when the shock settled, did you realize just how much your body was protesting you sitting up. So, despite your better judgment, you lied back down, waiting in nervous anticipation for him to come home.
What might have been half an hour felt like forever as you laid in bed. Shivering underneath the comforter despite sweating profusely, rubbing your nose raw from having to blow it constantly, all whilst it felt like you were spinning.
In your haze you didn’t even hear the front door or you bedroom door open. How could you when your body demanded all the attention you had?
Wakatoshi stood frozen in the doorway, a plastic bag hanging off his arm, silent as he took in the state you were in.
How hadn’t he noticed before he left? you couldn’t have possibly entered this state within the couple of hours he was gone.
He felt a tug of unease pull at his heart and willed himself to walk up to you.
“y/n,” he called softly. sitting on your side of the bed.
You flinched at the sound of his voice not knowing he was in the room. Slowly, you opened your eyes and winced at the light in the room.
“Toshi,” you croaked pathetically.
His face softened and he brushed your damp hair away from your face, frowning when he felt how warm your forehead was.
“Hey,” he greeted, he lifted a hand and that’s when you saw a thermometer from the medicine cabinet in his hand “can you open your mouth please?“
Weakly, you did as he asked, and as it sat in your mouth, he quickly walked towards the master bathroom. Mumbling something about a towel.
You didn’t hear him however as you turned your head back towards the ceiling and already felt your eyes drooping again.
You only came to when you felt something cool against your forehead, you opened your eyes to see Toshi looking down at you with furrowed eyebrows. The thermometer beeped and when he looked at the reading the crease deepened.
Toshi disappeared for a moment again, making his presence known when he began to take the comforter off of you.
You whined as he did so, shivering even harder as air hit your body. You even sat up to try and grab it back.
“‘s cold toshi,” you slurred.
He was quick to place a thinner sheet on top of you “I know dear, but we have to get your body temperature down.”
As you pulled the blanket closer Wakatoshi opened the bag he brought with him. You heard the rattle of a pill container and then the crack of a bottle being opened. Wakatoshi turned to you and held out some medicine and water.
You reached out a shaky hand to take the medicine, placing the pill in your mouth. Wakatoshi helped you hold the bottle, noting how weak your arms were.
You sighed in temporary relief when you finished drinking, glad that your mouth felt less dry.
Wakatoshi allowed a small relieved smile to cross his face and he quickly helped you lay back down.
“I’ll make you some food, stay here.”
Once he was sure you were comfortable he made his way to the kitchen quickly getting his ingredients ready.
It was only when he was midway through washing some rice when he took a moment to pause.
When was the last time he had cooked for you?
Wakatoshi continued his task albeit feeling guilty thinking about how you’ve been the one cooking and eating dinner alone for some time now. It used to be a shared responsibility. Now he usually came home late so you would put a plate aside for him or he would go out to eat with the team.
He was still deep in though as he pushed the bedroom door open with his back, a tray consisting of a bowl of rice porridge and a cup of tea left a trail small trail of steam as he walked.
You were asleep but woke easily at the sound of his footsteps. It took a moment for your eyes to focus on him.
He gestured with the tray, “Do you think you can eat?”
You looked at the food, perfectly plated and garnished, your mouth watering slightly at the savoury smell.
“I think so. At least a little bit.”
He helped you sit up, and when he saw the weakness still in your arms he fed you himself.
You hummed contently at the first bite of food. You had missed this more than you thought you did.
After about half the bowl was done and your tea finished, you signalled that you stomached as much as your body would allow. Now with your body temperature having gone down and your stomach full you could feel yourself becoming less and less loopy. You watched quietly as he put the tray on the bedside table. When he was finished with that, he sat still on the bed and stared at the wall.
You looked at his face, despite it deceptively lacking emotion, you knew better than anyone else that something was bothering him.
However before you could ask he began to speak
“Why wasn’t I the first person you contacted when you realized that you were sick?”
You froze, looking down in your lap fiddling wIth a loose thread in the blanket.
“…Well…you’ve been busy as of late….I didn’t think it was important enough to take you out of practice. Someone less busy would have probably been willing to come.”
He slowly turned to face you. “You didn’t think that your wellbeing was important enough?”
You shrugged, “Well volleyball is always going to be your biggest priority. I’m just sick it’ll pass.”
Obvious distress crossed Ushijima’s face “y/n, you are my main priority.”
You paused. Perhaps it was time to tell him how you were really feeling instead of dancing around the subject.
“…It hasn’t felt that way lately.” you say hesitantly, your voice small.
Wakatoshi faltered. You kept looking down, almost scared to look him in the eye.
“I was content with that at first, your love of volleyball is admirable, it’s was drew me to you at first. But it always made you seem unattainable. When you asked me on that date all those years ago I was over the moon,” you paused to clear your throat huffing in annoyance as your sickness interrupted you.
“But I can only endure so much Toshi. Nowadays it feels like your going where I can’t reach. You’re always busy, which is understandable for a professional athlete… I just wish it wasn’t to the point where I’m worried about your reaction if I were to try to talk to you.”
There was a shift in the mattress. Then familiar arms that you had been longing for wrapped tightly around you.
“Toshi you’re gonna get sick.”
“It’s fine,”
“but-“
“I’m sorry y/n.”
you stiffened but stayed quiet to let him speak.
“You’ve done so much for me without complaint and I have done so little in return. i’m sorry for letting it get to this point. It took you getting this sick for me to realize.”
A stormy look crossed his face, “I… I’ve been struggling to balance work and home, in return I’ve been neglecting you and letting how tired I am influence my reactions. you don’t deserve that. you are my first priority y/n, I don’t know what I would do without you.”
You sniffled and wiped a tear that fell from your face. You didn’t even know you were crying. For a man usually so quiet and stoic, he always knew what to say to you when he needed to. It was always so endearing to you.
“If I had known you were going to take it this well I would’ve said something earlier,” you say softly.
He smiles sadly, “I haven’t been making it seem that way hmm?”
You shake you’re head but smile back, “no”
He sighs to himself but places a gentle kiss against your forehead much like how he did all those years ago. Your eyes flutter shut and you make let out a pleased sigh. You were much more comfortable than you were when you first woke up.
“We’ll talk more once you get better. I promise,” He eventually says. holding you a bit closer to him.
You nodded and snuggled closer to his chest. While it wasn’t an immediate fix, it was a start.
“Sounds good to me Toshi.”
He smiled down at you “Sleep, I’ll be here when you wake up.”

In his defence. He was never that in tune with his emotions. At least… that’s what he keeps telling himself.
The silence that came with staying up well into the night was something that he used to relish in. After a hectic day of training he knew that eventually the night would come and he could relax in complete silence doing whatever he wanted.
That was until you left.
You used to go up to him to talk about your day the moment he got home. He would often tune you out as he took off his shoes, up until he managed to get into the shower. His days used to be filled with your voice.
Used to.
For a while after you had left the apartment, he thought that you’d eventually come back. You always did. You usually needed a bit of time to calm down after big arguments such as the one you had that one fateful night.
Eventually you’d come around. That’s what he always told himself.
Though it seemed like this would be the one exception. Now he was left in this apartment that felt far too big, and far too quiet for one person.
How he wished to hear you talk about your day just one more time.
He was never the type to think much about the past, always the kind of person to look towards the future and its plethora of possibilities, but not this time.
In the quiet parts of the night, when there was nothing to distract his mind from reminiscing, his mind forced him to consider the ‘what if’s?’ What could have been had he not spoken to you the way he did that night. Had he put aside his pride for once and chased after you like the damn fool he knew he was.
You leaving him left him with more questions than answers. Rather, more questions that he didn’t want to know the answers to. Questions that he would never be able to pull himself to ask.
He would never ask those questions. He kept his space. He wouldn’t dare contact you because he knew that it wasn’t him that you wanted. Definitely not because he was scared of any further rejection.
Definitely.
So he was stuck, thinking about what you had, cursed with the thoughts of what could have been while you had managed to break free.
He eventually got into the habit of watching from afar, just to make sure you were doing okay. That’s what he would tell himself unconvincingly. What a mess he was, looking at your posts on social media for a bit too long. Clicking on your account and scrolling through it a bit too often.
Analyzing your most recent post for a bit too long, and realizing that there were two drinks at the table you sat at. You’d always beg him to visit new cafes with you, more often than not he’d say he was busy or tired.
He’s stare at the picture for far too long, and eventually realize that you were looking at the person taking the picture with the same flustered yet elated look that you would give him all that time ago.
His heart sinks to his stomach but all he can do is look at you through a screen.
The more you posted the more evident it became that you were over him. He would chuckle angrily at his phone. The same phone you would beg him to get off of, just to give you even a fraction of his attention. He could never tell if he was angry at you for moving on so quickly, or at himself for caring so much now. Only after you had left for good.
He found himself wondering how you purged him from your heart so easily. When the mark you left on his was still so prominent. Then he remembers how he treated you and the mark begins to throb.
He thinks about how you live somewhere else now. How you’ve made a new place your own but even after all this time there are still remnants of you in his godforsaken apartment. The bath mat you bought, the way you organized the kitchen, the body wash you insisted he buy because you liked the way it smelled. He still buys it.
All this pain and heartache that he feels. He worries that he’ll be tethered to it forever. forced to live with the fact that he’s lost the best thing that could have ever happened to him and he’ll just have to accept it. For a man that only looked to the future, he can’t imagine himself living as carefree as he once did and it worries him. More than he would ever like to admit.
He finds himself comparing your new relationship to the one you two used to share. An immensely unhealthy habit for one to develop, but one he couldn’t free himself from.
‘We used to be like that’ he thinks to himself dejectedly as he sees a video of you and your new flame a mutual friend posted. He can see himself in the position of the other person but then he is dragged back to reality, and can see it’s the relationship you two once had. Just without him.
In the end he has to accept the bitter truth and realize that it wasn’t him that you needed. But god he still desperately needed you.
But as he looks at your new relationship, it becomes more clear to him. He didn’t deserve you, and he would have to live with that. The amount of attention and love you now get. The happiness in your eyes that grows with each post. It’s incomparable to how you two used to be. When he’s feeling particularly pathetic, he imagines himself as your new partner. Devoted, loving, determined to ensure the relationship works.
That’s where his imagination stops. In reality he knows that your relationship never looked like that. It never would have, not with how he was.
So he remains in the silent darkness of his room. Staring at pictures of you and your new fiancé. Stuck in his delusions that in another life this is exactly how your relationship would looked. It’s just that this time, it was without him.

It is well known among Atsumu’s friends and family that he tends to talk. A lot.
It was something you found endearing about him when you first started dating. Whenever you were with Atsumu, awkward silences were few and far between. There was always something he could talk about it.
For the most part you were happy to listen and talk about whatever it was he rambled about that day. His limitless passion was part of why you fell in love with him.
Still, the habit of his had some drawbacks.
“Oh, congratulations by the way!”
You turn your gaze away from the restaurant window and look at your friend in confusion.
“Congratulations on what?”
It was your friend’s turn to look confused, “On the big promotion silly!”
There was a pause as you took in their words. “How do you even know about that?” You spluttered. “I just got the news a couple days ago. I was planning a big announcement and everything.”
“Oh I ran into Atsumu at the grocery store yesterday and he told me!” their gaze softened when they saw the defeated look on your face. “I’m sorry I thought he would’ve told you”
You waved your hands in front of you, “no no it’s not your fault… I’m not very surprised at this point. I was just hoping to wait for all the paperwork to go through before telling anyone.”
“Well if it’s any comfort I’m proud of you y/n.”
The smile you gave them was bittersweet, “thanks.”
———
Needless to say, you were a bit peeved when you got home that day, though your boyfriend didn’t seem to notice.
“Hi babe! how was lunch?” He called from where he sat on the couch.
You stared blankly at the back at his head for a moment, “fine.”
“That’s great! I was thinkin’ for dinner we could order out ya know? This commercial came on and-“
“Why did you tell f/n about the promotion?”
He paused and finally turned to look at you. Taking in your frustrated state, still, he shrugged, “it seemed like a good time.”
You let your bag fall to the ground before fully stepping into the living room “Atsumu I told you that I wanted to wait, it would have only taken another week.”
Now standing up from the couch, the confusion that was evident on Atsumu’s face only served to fuel your anger.
“But this is such exciting news y/n! There’s no time like the present!”
“Atsumu that’s not for you to decide! That was my news to tell!”
“Like you said, you were gonna tell them eventually!” He raised his hands up in surrender, “I’m sorry but you know that this is just how I am! I was just so excited for you I couldn’t help myself.”
You left that fight defeated that night, unable to think of any comeback, because yes, you did know Atsumu. You knew how your life was never your own being with him. You knew the extent of just how stubborn he was and how ignorant he could be to the world around him. Trying to wrap his mind around something could feel like pulling teeth sometimes.
After managing to get through a tense dinner, life went on. You did end up celebrating with your closest friends and family and soon after you began to take on your new responsibilities.
Unfortunately, Atsumu continued to act as if he hadn’t completely crossed a boundary you had set. He continued to talk about your lives with his friends it seemed that you couldn’t go a full week without somebody asking you about something you never told them about.
The pure helplessness you felt that day remained lingering within you as you carried on with work. You found yourself almost dreading going home, and contemplating not telling him anything.
But how could you when everyday without fail he would grace you with that smile, oozing with love and fondness before sweetly asking you, “So how was your day?”
You were in a bit of a mess with yourself, trying to figure out how to get your concerns through his thick skull. The new role you had taken on further adding to the stress you had been feeling. While you loved your job You were both physically and mentally exhausted.
It was only a matter of time before everything became too much.
To the horror of you colleagues, you had ended up fainting at work. You had finally succumbed to everything in your life that had been piling on top of you.
Luckily, it wasn’t long before you regained consciousness, surrounded by your colleagues you sat up and slowly and rubbed the back of your head sheepishly.
At that moment some paramedics had rounded the corner and while you insisted you were completely fine, you allowed them to check you for injuries and give you some fluids, it wasn’t until they were sure you were stable and didn’t need any further help that they left.
As embarrassing as the entire situation was, you were glad that your boss let you have the rest of the day off, it was near the end of your shift anyways. So you grabbed your bag and left, still mortified at what had just transpired.
As you rode the train home, the events leading up to you losing consciousness replayed in your mind, you thought about everything that had led up to that point. How your coworkers reacted. As you sat in the quiet train, your mind still struggled to process what had happened.
Even with your spiralling mind, everything led to one conclusion.
You couldn’t tell Atsumu about what happened, at least not today.
Because you knew him. You knew exactly what would happen.
It would start with the texts from worried friends, calls from both of your families, and end with people mentioning off handedly, “I heard you fainted the other day. How are you feeling?” and you would be left to do damage control as your boyfriend continued to live his carefree life.
You could tell Atsumu “don’t tell anyone this” but you knew better. You knew better than to trust him and his big mouth. How could you have any other option when he’s never proven that he could listen?
So you would stay quiet. Long enough for you to recover from your lingering headache, long enough for you to process everything that had happened and figure out how to prevent it from happening again.
Long enough to be able to finally relax without worrying who you were going to get a text or call from.
Even with your mind made, the universe seemed to laugh down at you, and make life much more difficult for you than it needed to be.
You nearly cursed out loud when you saw his car in the driveway. He was home early too.
You sighed as you slowly unlocked your front door. The sounds of the TV growing louder as you stepped in.
Atsumu turned back and gave you a look of confusion as you took off your shoes. “Hey babe, wasn’t expecting you ‘til later.”
You smiled at him “I could say the same for you.” you slid your feet into your house slippers “I got a lot of work done today and my boss let me go home early, why are you home?”
Atsumu shrugged “Practically the same as you. Been makin’ a lot of progress at practice lately.”
You walked in front of where he sat and pressed a gentle kiss to his forehead. even with how your relationship had been going, at least this was something you hadn’t lost.
Atsumu wrapped his arms around your waist and looked up at you, “did you eat yet?”
No. I was so busy at work that I kept postponing my break. You thought to yourself bitterly.
“Not yet, I decided that I might as well eat at home if I was leaving early.”
Atsumu hummed, “I haven’t either. We could order something and then watch some movies? Take advantage of our free time.”
You smiled down at him, a relaxed movie day with him was exactly what you needed. “I would like that a lot ‘Tsumu.”
You pulled slightly away and he whined, causing you to laugh softly.
“I’ll go take a shower and you can order whatever you want, ok?”
His pout grew back into the loving smile of his as he nodded, “Can I use your phone? You always have coupons.”
You nodded and he allowed you to fully pull away. Reaching into your bag you pulled out your phone and handed it to him before making your way to your shared bedroom.
It had been maybe 20 minutes of Atsumu scrolling through the various restaurants (he’s very indecisive when it comes to food) before a text from who he recognized as one of your coworkers popped up.
“Hey! Hope your feeling better. We managed to get everything done so there’s no need to worry for your next shift.
Also remember to seek medical attention if anything feels off. I know you were cleared but you hit your head pretty badly.”
He froze as he read the text over and over. He didn’t even realize how much time had passed until you came walking out of your bedroom with a relaxed smile on your face.
“Soo, you decide on a place yet?”
You were met with an extremely uncharacteristic silence, your brows furrowed as you looked at your boyfriend staring intently at your phone.
“Atsumu?”
The next thing you knew, Atsumu flipped the screen to you.
“y/n what is this? Medical attention? Did something happen?”
Your eyes skimmed the message and you froze.
“…O-oh there was a bit of an incident at work that happened before I left. No need to worry!” you tried to wave his hand away and mustered the calmest smile you could.
He looked unconvinced.
“y/n…”
You felt your resolve crumble where you stood. The accusatory look he gave you full of worry, and worse, anger.
You sighed shakily, “ever since the promotion I’ve been finding it hard to find time to really relax so…” you looked away, unable to look him in the eye due to your guilt. “I ended up fainting.”
Atsumu shot up from where he sat, “You passed out?!” his hands frantically grabbed at your shoulders, trying to get you to look at him “You should have told me right away! I could have picked you up! Who knows what would have happened if you fainted again on the subway. I can’t believe you lied, you were just going to keep this from me? Why? Why didn’t you tell me-“
You pushed yourself out of his grip, “Because I didn’t want to!” you huffed, tired of his tirade, “I admit that I was fully content with not telling you.”
His hands dropped from your shoulders and you almost broke at the sight of his crestfallen face “Why?”
You took a deep breath, “I was…scared that you were gonna tell someone.”
There was a moment of tense silence. “You…you could’ve just asked me to not-“
“Could I Atsumu? Could I really? I’m not sure if I believe that, especially after you told me that that’s just who you were and that it was unavoidable.” You paused as you realized you were raising your voice, you looked away in shame. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to yell. It’s just that sometimes I wish that our business could be our own Atsumu, even for a little bit.”
You took his silence as a cue to keep explaining yourself.
“I needed time today to finally relax for once and process everything. I can’t do that if I have someone new calling me every five minutes to make sure that I’m okay. I want to be able to worry about my own wellbeing, without having to manage other people’s. I can’t do that if you tell everyone you know what’s happening in my life.”
Atsumu’s continued silence began to worry you. “Atsumu?”
Without warning you were pulled into the familiar strong arms that could only belong to your boyfriend.
“I’m sorry y/n.” he mumbled into your hair “I thought I was being supportive. I just love bragging about to to everyone and letting people know how we’re doing. I never really thought about how that would affect you. I’m sorry I made you stress out so much.”
You smiled into his chest and hugged him back “I’m happy that you understand ‘Tsumu. There’s nothing wrong with gushing about me, I just need you to understand my boundaries.”
You felt him nod “I’m sorry again I’ll do my best.”
You could already feel yourself relaxing again into his arms “that’s all I’m asking for Atsumu, thank you.”
You let out a sigh of relief as you held each other. It felt as if a massive weight had been lifted off your shoulders.
The tender moment was interrupted by the sound of a stomach growl. There was a stunned silence before the two of you burst into a fit of laughter.
Atsumu looked down at you with a gaze that filled you with an indescribable warmth, laughter still evident in his face. “How ‘bout we order and finally relax for the night? Just the two of us?”
You smiled fondly up at the man and nodded “Just the two of us.”

A short telling of your mermaid self, and the dragon who’s fascinated by you.
★彡fem terms used for reader, Zhongli is a lil silly (and in love)
You don't know how long it's been since the dragon started paying you visits, but everyday he arrives without fail to listen to you sing.
He is quite the large creature, with scales as brown as wood, and eyes as golden as the evening sun. When he arrives, he curls up comfortably by the pond where you dwell. He hums softly as you sing, his eyes closed for most of it. When he's decided it is time for him to depart, he always opens his eyes, fixes you with a watchful gaze for a few moments, and then takes to the skies.
He's quite non-threatening, for a dragon, so you're comfortable drifting to the edge of the water to get a closer look one day. You smile up at him as he opens his eyes and blinks slowly, head slightly tilted in curiosity.
"Hello!" you say amicably. "Thank you for always being my devoted audience member!"
The dragon doesn't respond; maybe he doesn't understand you? You wait a few moments, gazing into his golden eyes, before wondering if you should just continue singing.
Then, out comes the dragon's tongue. He licks your face once, twice, thrice, huffing softly.
"Oh!" You giggle, as he continues to lick you affectionately. "That tickles!"
The dragon huffs again and retracts his tongue. Then, he stretches out and a gleaming golden light illuminates him. You watch on in surprise as his illuminated form grows smaller and smaller...until in the dragon's place is a man a little taller than you are.
Like the dragon, his eyes are golden. His long brown hair flows softly with the breeze, and his beautiful brown silk hanfu shimmers under the light. A pair of gilded horns sits elegantly atop his head, much like a crown.
He is beautiful, but...oh no...he's going to tell you off, isn't he? He doesn't like the songs you're singing today, so he's going to turn you into his dinner! And that's why he'd licked you - he had been taste-testing you!
But he smiles and says gently, "Pardon me, lovely maiden. My name is Zhongli. I felt I had to personally convey how much I adore your singing."
"Oh!" you exclaim, your ears heating up. Is it because of the compliment, or the sheer attractiveness of this man? Perhaps both. "Well - thank you, kind sir. Though I must admit you'll find much better singers in the deep sea. I am but a shallow-water mermaid, and I am as simple as they come."
The man smiles softly, kneeling down. "I beg to differ, my dear."
Now your cheeks heat up - along with the rest of you. This dragon-turned-man seems genuinely interested in your company. "Is that why you transformed into a human? You wanted to talk to me?"
"Yes. I assumed this form would be more...friendly, for lack of a better word. I didn't wish to scare you."
You bite your lip. How foolish was your initial assumption! "I really thought you were going to eat me..."
"Ah," says Zhongli. "I apologise for giving you that impression. In any case, I am not particularly fond of seafood." He sees the look on your face and immediately shakes his head. "Not- not that I consider you as seafood...oh dear...please forgive me." He bows deeply.
"Pffft..."
"Hm?" Zhongli rises from his bow to see you stifling laughter.
"Hehehe...you're silly!" you croon, elbows propped up on the edge of the ground.
The man blinks, at first unsure how to take that. But when he sees your brilliant smile, your eyes crinkled like crescent moons as you laugh at his plight, he cannot help but crack a smile as well. Oddly, his heart skips a beat. "Yes, perhaps I am."

✩ ‧₊˚ ✩。10:07 PM — AL-HAITHAM.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
al-haitham asks you to marry him before he even realizes himself what he’s just asked. it’s a random tuesday night. you’re in worn out pajamas, he’s still got slight damp hair from his shower, and the both of you are curled up on the couch.
you’re rubbing his chest and his arm’s wrapped around your waist when you murmur, “we should get a place with more windows.”
he raises a brow, turns to look at you and scan over the side of your face. it’s familiar, the way you look so pretty under the dim light, on the same couch against the same walls in the same living room. but it’ll still feel like the first time even if it’ll be his last.
“is the design of our current home not up to your standards?” he asks, making you giggle.
“it’s nice,” you hum, “but it needs more windows. and a bigger kitchen. and maybe a backyard.”
“this home is conveniently close to our place of work,” he argues, fingers creeping up from under your shirt and rubbing circles into your hip. it’s soft—your skin, it’s warm and familiar under the rough pad of his thumb. it’s a touch that’s routine enough that you don’t squirm in surprise anymore when he finds your bare skin, and then he wonders for a moment if there are other routines waiting for him.
maybe he’ll watch you wait for him through the window as he comes home. maybe you’ll dance in the kitchen as coffee’s being made. maybe there’ll be picnics in the backyard as the sun sets. maybe, when you have a new house but the same home, he’ll find more of you in the walls and the corners of every room.
“haitham,” you huff, “a little extra walk won’t kill you. we should find our dream home.”
“our?” he asks after a moment, like he’s shocked. you only nod against his chest.
“of course, silly,” you chuckle, “i certainly won’t be house shopping with the general mahamatra—”
“we should get married,” he blurts.
“what?”
“my grandmother left a ring,” he instantly explains, “it’s a very nice ring, i promise. you won’t have to worry about having a bare finger—”
“that’s not what i meant—”
“and it can be a small ceremony,” he assures, “it shouldn’t take much planning. but if you’d like something fancier, i don’t mind either, it’s your wedding day just as much as it is mine—”
“that’s sweet, but wait—”
“and if you’re worried about time off for the honeymoon, as the former acting grand sage, there’s still a few strings i can pull for us both. i hear inazuma is nice during spring, so that gives us—”
he’s rambling. he’s figuring it out right here and now and it’s the last thing you expect of him, not having an elaborate plan—and it takes you by surprise. but he’s breathless and his eyes are wide and his chest is warm and his arm is still wrapped tightly around your waist.
and you couldn’t dream of saying no.
“you think you want all this?” you ask gently, “with little old me?”
“there’s no one but you,” he mumbles, holding you closer. and if there’s a slight bounce in his knee as he waits for your answer, you pretend you don’t notice.
“so you want to get married?”
“i want to marry you,” he corrects, “i want you. marriage is just the means of how.”
“okay,” you say with a hitch in your throat. after a moment of silence, you let out a shaky chuckle, eyes watery as you meet his. “okay. let’s get married.”
“okay,” he nods slightly, swallowing thickly.
“and we can have a house with more windows,” you add.
“and a bigger kitchen,” he agrees.
“and a backyard.”
“maybe a bigger study,” he adds thoughtfully.
you grab his face at that, with enough desperation that his cheeks are squished in your hands as you turn him, pressing your lips to his. you taste him, feel him pass through you as a breath of air, hear him ring through your ear as a muffled grunt.
he’s a part of you. he’s every inch of you. he lingers on your skin and knits into your bones. he’s yours now and somehow….somehow he’ll be yours forever.
“i’m going to get married,” you sniffle. “how exciting.”
“i’m going to marry you,” he murmurs, like he’s still processing the fact that you’re here, and his, and you’ve said yes.
“i love you,” you giggle, pressing your forehead to his.
his eyes close and his arm squeezes you gently. “i’ll always love you.”

You could kill someone.
That’s what swarmed your mind as you stared at the wall of the bedroom you shared with your dear husband.
You loved the room, you both decorated it yourselves (with the scrutinizing of a certain blond) it was an oasis after a long day of work and almost always guaranteed comfort.
Almost always.
You loved the room but not so early in the morning. The sun hadn’t even risen and yet here you lay awake as a majority of the city continues to slumber.
All because of one tiny thing.
A tiny foot stomps itself against your abdomen, sending a wave of pain through your body and causing you to involuntarily gasp out loud.
Yes your tiny little fighter that was growing within you seemed to already have inherited their strength from their “feeble scholar” of a father.
You breathed a sigh of relief as the pain subsided, rubbing your distended belly in hopes that it would calm the baby within you for the night. Although, in the back of your mind, you knew that once they started, it would be a long time before they decided to rest.
You turned away from the wall and towards your sleeping husband. You glared at him, envious that he was still fast asleep and unbothered as he wasn’t tasked with growing a living being within him.
Without warning you felt another hit to your poor stomach, you yelped this time. It seemed the battle your little one was fighting within you was growing.
The man beside you shifted and you froze, it wasn’t long before you were greeted by the sight of sleepy multicoloured eyes, ”is something wrong?”
You pouted at your husband, “your child has decided that right now is the perfect time to be awa-AH!”
Now wide awake, you husband looked at you in shock as you curled in on yourself, holding your belly. He leaned down towards your face and rubbed a soothing hand down your arm.
“Are you alright dear?”
You waved him off and pushed yourself to sit up against the headboard with a huff. You narrowed your eyes at your bump, “your child is an even earlier riser than you are ‘haitham”
Alhaitham chuckled up at you, “Our child dear, I’m sure they get they get those bursts of energy from you.”
You crossed your arms playfully and scoffed “it’s never this early though.”
A large hand caressed your bump, a soft look crossed your face as you watched your husband gaze tenderly and in awe where your child resided.
“Hello little one,” he cooed before kissing where he felt movement, “I’ve heard a peculiar rumour that you’re keeping a certain someone awake already.”
Alhaitham was answered by another jab to right where his hand was resting. Both of you stared at your bump for a moment before breaking into a fit of sleepy laughter.
Alhaitham wrapped his arms around you as best as he could and nuzzled into your stomach, and you instinctively began running a hand through his messy silver hair.
You sighed happily, despite how early it was, you couldn’t find it within yourself to be as grumpy as you were mere moments before, not with a sight such as the one you were witnessing
“I think we have a bit of a trouble maker on our hands wouldn’t you say so ‘Haitham?”
You were greeted by silence and when you looked down you saw that he had in fact fallen asleep once again. You sighed down at his sleeping face.
“Lucky bastard.”
Alhaitham’s newly found rest would not last long however as another kick was sent directly to where his cheek rested.
He flinched awake and looked all at you in confusion, your body shook in silent laughter as you saw the look of realization cross his face as he looked back down at where his head once lay.
He narrowed his eyes at you stomach and leaned closer, “so now you’re trying to make it fair hmm?”
In this room you had curated with your husband, the room fills with the first signs of daylight, your shared laughter, and most importantly, pure, unmistakable love.

dan heng is unusually perceptive. those blue eyes scan every part of the astral express train as well as its data bank much to march 7th's chagrin. the poor gal couldn't do anything without dan heng's watchful eyes. caelus would only laugh at her demise. this however, was something mr. welt, pompom, and himeko both respected. as the designated guard of the train, he's been doing his job quite well.
too well, in fact. to the point that it has caused problems to your poor little heart.
as the resident medic of the astral express, it was your duty to do regular check-ups for the members. normally, you would go on about your day, loving the fact that your office was much livelier with the number of people visiting you. you expected to move on each patient with ease. however, you certainly didn't expect fumbling over yourself as you try to calm your shaking hands from dropping the stethoscope from your grasp.
why? because dan heng was staring at you.
but dan heng always stares! that should've been an easy challenge to overcome? wrong. absolutely wrong.
you were used to his normal passive stares of acknowledgment but this. this was different. it was like he was trying to dig out the surface of your soul and dive deeper into the depths of your mind. it was unwavering and firm as he stared at you while you clumsily tried to do your regular check-up.
"d-dan heng." you weakly call his attention. his gaze continues to dart over your face, finding interest in the blemishes adorning your skin. you give him a sheepish smile as you pull back, placing the stethoscope on the surface of your desk. he answers with a tilt of his head.
"yes, doctor?"
"d-do you have to look at me like that? while i'm doing your check-up?" you ask, hands falling on your lap as you try to look anywhere but at him.
he pauses for a moment, leaving you in the deafening silence.
"... like what?" he answers after a few seconds, playing innocently as he now removes his gaze from your face to the trinkets decorating your shelves. you raise an eyebrow at his sudden change of focus.
"you've been staring at me for the whole session. i'm concerned." you reply, breath hitching as he turns to the window, gifiting you a chance to admire his magnificent side view.
"i've always been naturally curious about things, doctor. apologies for my behavior." he nonchalantly replies, fingers drumming on the hard surface of the chair he's sitting on. you furrow your eyebrows in confusion.
"i know, dan heng. but you've been unnaturally observant today. is there something you'd like to confirm with me?" you lean your body forward, to try and catch his gaze once more. you think you'd probably get used to it by now but the moment he glances back at you with a flicker of his eye, your jaw opens slightly as your face heats up once more.
dan heng smiles as he watches you flush in embarrassment before leaning back against your chair. you glare at him after noticing his amusement in your turmoil. "you've been staring at me the whole time! what was i supposed to do?!"
the raven-haired man only chuckles, sound rumbling deep within his chest as he focuses on you once again. he stares with an unreadable look on his face before he whispers something that finally got you to look at him
"... database." he mutters. you furrow your eyebrows as you lean closer to hear him.
"p-pardon?"
he sighs like he doesn't want to repeat what he just said. "the database. i read something there."
your eyebrows raise as you urge him to continue. he looks as you as if he's hesitating and knowing dan heng, you seldom see him hesitate on a variety of matters.
what did he read, exactly?
"i read that extended eye contact is the best way forward in conveying one's feelings." he breathes out fast enough that you have to crane your head to catch all of it. his face looks like how it normally is but you catch a glimpse of the red tint creeping onto the tips of his ears.
"huh?"
"i'm pretty sure caelus and march put it there. they're starting to become too comfortable entering the archive room as they please. they know i always check the records." he mumbles under his breath, face turning into a scowl. you blink at him in confusion.
"um, could you... add more context?"
he turns to you, lips pursing in thought.
"can i ask something of you, doctor?"
"uh, sure?" you answer, uncertain at his deflection of providing an explanation for what he just said. you enjoyed this young man's presence— perhaps too much from the previous times you've spent with him. this was certainly a change of perspective to his usual direct self.
"do you..." he pauses, eyes still trained on you. "do you think i'm attractive?"
you halt.
you don't breathe even.
you were certain something had possessed dan heng (possibly a young girl with the name march) to ask you such a question. you were sure trivial matters like this didn't even exist in his head and whether he was aware or not that he was undeniably attractive, he didn't let it show through his facade.
and of course, you'd say yes. you'd rate it a dashing 928 out of 10 if that was even possible. you'd be on your knees declaring his godly looks if you have to.
but for the sake of your sanity, you allow the chaos to only lurk inside the depths of your mind. an effect of it however is the heating of your cheeks and the hiccup you just let out.
you slap your palm over your mouth.
dan heng tilts his head like a dog.
he's absolutely killing you.
you wonder if belobog would be free for an extra medic in their care as a needed leave from the express desperately clawed at your need to be away from this man before he further infiltrated your mind.
"w-what? dan heng, are you well?" you ask as if its the only plausible question you can ask the guard of the train.
trying to deflect his question was a futile quest as he leans forward, eyes gleaming as his face comes closer to yours. "does this proximity allow you to assess your answer?"
you lean back in surprise, elbow bumping on the desk behind you as you try to crane your head as far as you can from his face.
you were probably delusional but you swear you saw his eyes flicker down for second.
"d-dan heng." you whine out his name in embarassment. you fingers grip the wood behind you as the man had already stood from his spot and placed his arms on either side of you, hands splayed on the wooden surface of the desk.
there's a soft but determined look on his face.
"i need an answer, doctor. it's incredibly urgent," he mumbles softly to keep the conversation between the two of you even though there's only you two inside the room. at this point, you were sure he was torturing you for his own amusement.
"h-himeko might come in any second—"
"doctor." he repeats your title with slight tone of chastising. the heat on your cheeks never wavered as well as the proximity between your faces.
you had to stop the urge from leaning up and allowing the distance to decrease.
dan heng and you were friends but it only walked along the threads of friends and co-workers. sure, out of all the trailblazers, you were probably the closest "non-march" person to dan heng according to caelus.
the stellaron vessel spoke how dan heng would always treat you differently than others. you tried to tell him it wasn't true but the silver-haired friend of yours only sent you a look of exasperation. you were right though? dan heng had always been a man who spoke with his actions. those same acts of affections you'd see him do to march or even sometimes to himeko out of respect. there wasn't any special treatment. he was just dan heng and you were just you.
so why was him asking you if you thought he was attractive beginning to sever those threads you tried to keep together?
probably because you now had to physically admit to yourself that yes, you liked the man and you would love to kiss him and make him breakfast and quite possibly, fall in love with him.
having a relationship with a job like yours was hard and taxing. you already heard about mr. welt's apparent apprehension with fraternizing amongst members of the express. he didn't exactly express distaste but he wasn't all that okay with it.
what would his reaction be if he accidentally walked into the med bay with dan heng trapping you against the desk and face so close to yours be like?
you'd hate to cause the poor man a heart attack.
you'd also hate to lose your job and be sent back home...
you pause to look at his eyes which seemed to border amused teasing and determination. you decide to indulge in whatever fuckery march and caelus put him up to.
"... yes." you mumble, eyes trained up to him. he raises his eyebrows to make you repeat your answer. "yes i do. can you let me go now?"
he hums, contemplating before pulling back. he sits back down on the stool before you as he looks at you with an unreadable look on his face.
"on what scale?"
"dan heng."
"please? i'm actually curious."
"i'm not so convinced you're yourself anymore. did you drink or eat something to make you this unwell?" you squint your eyes in suspicion. he smiles, a form of his laughter.
"i don't know. you're the doctor here." he quips, hands interlocking as it rests on his thighs. you roll your eyes.
"funny."
he lets out a chuckle that seems to ring in your head. aeons, it was so pretty.
"a 9."
he tilts his head up in surprise. you flush before saying it again.
"you're a 9— wait no, a 9.5," you correct yourself, as you grab your tablet to make notes. it allows you a moment of reprieve from his staring, covering yourself with the gadget as you try to calm yourself down.
"a 9.5," he repeats, sounding each word. you slowly lower the tablet to the bridge of your nose, eyes peering at the top. you watch his reaction as he stares down at the floor before smiling.
"not bad. i'll take it." he replies before standing up. you straighten up in your seat as you watch him get his things from the couch beside the door.
"dan heng, wait you're not yet—"
"i'll send my weight and height to you as soon as possible. i keep myself updated." he passively comments as the door of the med bay slides open. you expect him to be on his way but he surprisingly stops at the doorway.
"right," he smacks his lips before turning back to you. "i forgot to mention i also read something else on the database."
you have a feeling you shouldn't ask but you do so anyway. "... what is it?"
he smiles, innocent but teasing. "mutual attraction is a root essence of the concept of love."
you only blink in confusion at his words. his fingers drum against the metal surface of the doorway before continuing.
"i'm attracted to you as well, doctor." he adds before leaving with boyish smile on his face. the door slides close and you're left with your thoughts.
what?
wait. WAIT A FUCKING MINUTE?!
heat full-on flushes your skin as you sit on your chair with shoulders tense and palm against your face.
that motherfucker.
he's surely going to kill you someday.

Hi! I was wondering if your requests are still open, if so, could I maybe pwease have an Osamu OS with angst but comfort at the end? Like Samu is super busy with the restaurant to be with his partner, so his partner hangs out with Tsumu and it makes Osamu jealous? Thanks in advance!❤️
Jealousy and Love
Tumblr media
Miya Osamu x gn!Reader
Genre: Hurt/Comfort
Warnings: Minor manga spoilers. not edited :P
Requests: Closed for now as i catch up on both requests and school
a/n: Hope this is to your liking! I feel as if the ending was a teeny bit fast for me but i couldn’t think of what else to write lmao. Writing in the twins and there accent is a big of a hurdle for me but i enjoyed writing it a lot :3
Tumblr media
Waking up to an empty bed is something you had grown to get used to.
The opening of Osamu’s restaurant meant that he was extremely busy, he was there from opening to close, cooking, serving customers, watching his employees, budgeting, creating schedules.
The business was far from a well oiled machine at this point, but you couldn’t be more proud of your boyfriend for making his dreams become a reality.
Still, you couldn’t help but feel the sting of loneliness that creeped up on you whenever you saw his side of the bed empty.
It was the weekend, a day where you didn’t have work but your boyfriend did. A five day work week was just not possible with his restaurant.
You sighed as you turned over in bed again, having been up for over an hour at this point. Deciding to not let the rest of the day go to waste, you got up to in hopes to do something productive.
You had managed to start a load of laundry when you heard a knock at your door.
You looked at your front door in confusion at the sound, you hadn’t been expecting any company or deliveries that day. You stood there wondering who it could possibly be.
Another knock.
“Oi! Anyone home?”
Ah. That answered it.
You walked to the front door and opened it, revealing a mop of bleach blond hair that was all too familiar to you.
“Atsumu? What are you doing here?”
The man pouted at you, “whatever happened to “hi Atsumu! it’s good to see you.”?”
You stared at him blankly, “hi Atsumu, it’s good to see you. What are you doing here?”
He huffed “Well hello to you too. If you must know I’ve weirdly found myself with a lot of free time and thought that I would take that time to spend it with my dear brother and his partner. Now can I come in?”
You opened the door wider and moved aside to let him in, “so in other words. It’s off season and you’re so bored with all your free time that you decided that it was time to bother Osamu and I.” you paused, “don’t you have partner to bother instead?”
Atsumu scoffed as he took his shoes off “no need to rub my loneliness in y/n”
You sighed “No I think we’re in the same boat.”
He sat down at your dinning table and nodded in thanks when you put a glass of water down in front of him. “‘Samu’s not here? It’s the weekend.”
You sat in the chair front of him “No he’s been busy with the restaurant these past weeks.” It was your turn to pout “He’s really only off on Sunday’s and even then he’s usually exhausted.”
“So what you just sit here alone most days? when’s the last time you’ve gone out and done something fun?”
Your silence was enough of an answer to Atsumu.
“Well this is just unacceptable!” Atsumu suddenly stood up from his spot startling you with his outburst, he pointed at you “as the certified funner twin, I say that we go out to have a fun brother, partner-in-law day out!”
You looked up at his wide grin in shock “Your brother and I aren’t married-“
“So where do ya wanna go? I’ll pay.”
You opened your mouth to protest but stopped. It really had been a long time since you’ve gone out to do something fun as you were waiting for the day that Osamu would be free again.
But that seemed so far into the future. When would another opportunity like this present itself again?
“Well…” Your started, “there’s this cafe I’ve been wanting to go to, and down the street from it is the claw machine arcade that we haven’t been able to go to yet.”
“Great! Let’s go!”
Atsumu excitedly made his way to the door before you called out to him. “Atsumu wait!”
“Whattt? Don’t flake on me already.”
“At least let me get ready first.”
Atsumu looked at the state you were in. Still in pyjamas, hair a mess, and wearing your house slippers.
He silently made his way back to the dining table and slid back into his chair.
“I’ll wait here, take yer time.”
———
Your time with Atsumu had turned out to be a lot more fun than your would care to admit to the blond, in fear that his ego would grow bigger than you could handle.
The cafe you suggested had a calming atmosphere along with wonderful food and drinks. You could tell that Atsumu liked the place too with how many pictures he was taking of the place.
The claw machine arcade also showed just how stubborn the man was.
“Atsumu you’ve spent more at this machine than what the prize is worth. You could probably find it onli-“
“Ya don’t understand y/n! it’s the feeling of finally winning that matters. I’m so close I just know it.”
“…if you say so.”
In the end, Atsumu had won that prize, and combined with the prizes you had won, you were bringing home a multitude of things ranging from plush toys, to figures, and even snacks.
You insisted that Atsumu come back to your place for dinner, in a way trying to make up for how much he had spent during your time out in the city.
With Atsumu having found his spot on your couch with the tv remote, you were nearly finished cooking when you heard the familiar sound of a key unlocking your front door.
“I’m home.” You boyfriend called out as her took off his shoes.
“Welcome home.” You replied back.
There was a pause, “is someone here y/n?” Osamu asked from the entrance.
“Only Atsumu.”
“So no one important then.”
“Oi!”
Osamu appeared from the entrance and rolled his eyes at the sight of his brother lounging on the couch, walking to the kitchen he crept up behind you, wrapping his arms around your waist as his kissed your cheek, you smiled softly.
Both of you ignored Atsumu’s fake gag.
“You’re home early.” you noted.
“Everything seemed to be going well, thought I could treat myself a little bit.”
“This is early?” Atsumu piped up from the couch
Osamu glared at the back of his brother’s head “Yes, the restaurant closes at nine, i’m trusting that my employees will be able to do it.” his eyebrows furrowed “why are ya in my house?”
Atsumu glared “First of all it’s yours and y/n’s house, second of all aren’t ya glad to see your only brother ‘Samu?”
“That doesn’t answer my question.”
“It’s not volleyball season and he’s lonely.” You answered from your spot at the stove, ignoring Atsumu’s splutters of indignation.
You grabbed three plates and quickly set the table, inviting the boys to sit and enjoy an eventful dinner.
When you were finished, Osamu had grabbed the dirty dishes and began making his way to the sink when he finally noticed the large bag of prizes you and Atsumu had dumped on the living room floor.
“What’s all that from?”
“Oh!” you piped up in excitement, “those are from the claw machine arcade. Atsumu and I won a bunch of stuff, even snacks! you can look and grab some if you’d like.”
“He’ll no he can’t! I spent my precious sanity winning all that stuff.” Atsumu protested
“Atsumu I won the most prizes out of the both of us.”
“Well I paid for it along with yer order at the cafe.”
“You were the one who insisted!”
Osamu paused as the two of you bickered, “Cafe?”
You stopped your teasing to look at your boyfriend “Yeah! the one with all the flowers I showed you like months ago. I told Atsumu about it and he insisted we go.”
“I got pictures! ‘Samu look at this.”
The sound of dishes clattering aggressively in the sink was followed by silence.
“I thought that we were going to go together?” Osamu asked bitterly, he glared at the picture Atsumu was showing him of you mid claw game, “and you went to the arcade too? Without me?”
You looked up at Osamu from your seat, fidgeting nervously as he crossed his arms over his chest, “I know we talked about it before but we’ve never really had the chance. You’ve been so busy lately.”
“So you decide to go without me and with my brother of all people?”
The silence that filled your house was deafening. Osamu’s anger seemed to grow by the second.
Atsumu coughed awkwardly. “Ya know what I think it’s time I go, I’m suddenly busy. Okay bye!”
In record time Atsumu had grabbed his things and fled your home, leaving you alone with Osamu.
The front door slammed shut and the tension in the room bore down on you. Osamu’s glare kept you frozen in your seat.
“Well?” Osamu urged, wanting an explanation.
“I don’t know what you want me to say Osamu.” You said, defending yourself, “Atsumu offered and I couldn’t refuse.”
“Except you could.”
You looked at him incredulously, “and then what? We sit here in the apartment doing nothing instead?”
“No! You kick him out! Tell him to leave!”
“That’s your brother Osamu, I can’t just shut him out!”
Osamu scoffed, “yes you can, and you should have. Instead of running off to god knows where.”
“Oh so that I could sit in this apartment by myself doing nothing again? Do you know just how bored i’ve been?”
“We could’ve gone-“
You threw your hands up in the air,,“When!? when Osamu? When could we have gone out together for an entire day? You’ve been so busy that I can’t remember the last time we’ve been able to go out on a date.”
“That not fair y/n, you know that the-“
“Restaurant? Yes I know damned well about the restaurant and how it’s important for you to be there, especially in the beginning stages. But can you blame me for not wanting to wait around every single day?”
“We agreed early on that this would take time to settle, that I would be working long hour and I wouldn’t be able to be around as often. You knew this well in advance y/n. So yes I’m sorry that you have to deal with what you agreed with, and I’m so sorry that for once, the world isn’t revolving around YOU!”
You froze where you sat. Osamu had never been once to raise his voice at you,
“Do you really think that I’m that full of myself? That I think that I deserve all the attention in the world or else I will wither away?” you stood from your spot “Do you know how lonely it’s been for me? Just how much I’m willing to let go because I know how busy you are?”
“y/n…”
“Have you ever stopped for just a moment to think about how living in an empty house may make me feel? I wake up to an empty bed nearly every day, I come home from work to an empty house.”
you shake your head sadly. “If I’ve had a bad day at work I can’t even bring myself to voice my feelings because I know just how exhausted you are the moment you walk through that door. It hurts every time you ignore the dinner I’ve prepared and head straight to bed without even saying hello.”
“Three days Osamu.”
He looked at you confused “Three days?”
You chucked sadly, “that’s the longest we’ve gone without speaking, three whole days of living with what felt like a stranger rather than a boyfriend.”
Tears started to flood your eyes and you had to force yourself to continue. “Believe me when I say that I know more than anyone, how important this is to you. It is why I haven’t said anything up until this point. So forgive me if I decide that I want to spend some time out with a friend.”
With that you turned on your heel and made your way to your bed room, slamming the door behind you. Your breath sped up as the darkness of the room enveloped you and you barely made it to the bed before you found yourself collapsing into a pool of tears.
Your mind was a whirlwind of emotions, angry at him for being angry at you, sad because it felt like he would never understand, even more sad because you felt like you were losing him.
You knew that you had gone over what to expect when Osamu had started his business. You knew that it would be tough and taxing but you also knew that you could get through it.
At least you had hoped that you could get through it together rather than apart.
It was some time before the door creaked open. You buried your face into pillow in an attempt to hide your remaining sobs.
The bed dipped where he sat and there was a moment of quiet, filled only with your cries.
“I…” Osamu started. He sounded apprehensive, unsure of what to say in the moment. He sighed, “This isn’t the life that we talked about when we first started dating. I never wanted it to turn out this way, and for that I’m so sorry y/n.”
As he spoke, you willed yourself to sit up and sit in the edge of the bed beside him. Still refusing to look directly at him.
You missed the way he way he looked at you in remorse, too occupied with your own hands fiddling in your latp.
“I’m sorry,” he repeated, “That I took my anger out on you, you don’t deserve that either. I just got stuck with this idea that you would always be home waiting for me. I got too comfortable with that. When I heard you had gone out with Atsumu without me…“
Osamu looked away in shame, “I guess I was just…jealous”
His words caused you to finally look at him in surprise, “Of your brother?”
he scoffed “I would’ve been jealous regardless of who it was. It’s just…I know I haven’t been able to spend as much time with you as I much as I want to. I know you’ve been wanting to go to that cafe among other places for a while now and the fact that I wasn’t able to take you there, it just made me mad. You told me about it first, I should’ve been the one”
“Osamu…”
“I guess it just reminded me that you are alone here because of how busy I am, and I turned the anger I was feeling towards myself to you instead. You are allowed to go out—no you shouldn’t need my permission to go out and do all the things you find fun.”
There was a pause before you spoke, “I know that you’re busy Osamu, you’re achieving your dream! I could never blame you for that.” another pause, “it’s just that I hope that now you can understand that there’s only so much alone time a person can take, and that I have another life outside of what happens in this apartment.
he sighed “I know.”
“I miss you ‘Samu.”
He smiled sadly at you, “I know y/n, I miss you too. So much.”
Without saying anything else, you crawled up beside him and wrapped your arms around him. He took the chance to pull you fully in his lap and hug you even tighter. He rested a cheek against the top of your head and the pleased sigh that followed made you smile.
“We have a bit to work out regarding our expectations of each other.” you lamented as you rubbed a hand up and down one of his arms.
He hummed in agreement, “I’ll be home tomorrow so we can talk each others ears off all day.” you softly laughed at his tease.
he continued, “and how about I schedule myself some time off and we can spend the entirety of next weekend together doing whatever you want.”
“I would really like that ‘Samu.”
He smiled and pulled you impossibly closer, as if you would disappear if he were to let go.
“We have to apologize to Atsumu first though.”
“if you insist,” Osamu groaned, “But for now, how about those snacks you told me about earlier?”
