Writing a Lesbian Novel...

 At first it was some kind of subconscious out-spurt, in some way it is still. I've never been one of those people who's all about Gay rights and all that stuff but this novel is kind of based around an understanding of gays. The two main characters being woman but when you first start reading you aren't aware of that, you'd automatically think it was a guy and a girl, because that's the norm, that's the typical 'romance' novel. It's not until the end when they become one, become intimate that you realise that it's two women. In doing that I wanted to demonstrate that love is love, whether it's shared between a man and woman, man and man or woman and woman. There are no differences when it comes to love. I also wanted to highlight the process of gays and love. From what I've come to understand and see for myself is that gay people move very quickly. They fall in love quickly, they get into committed relationships quickly. I do think that because being gay isn't the norm, people who are gay tend to seek love and acceptance a lot more than heterosexuals because it's in some way harder to come by. Therefore when they do find even the slightest bit of love and acceptance they really cling to it. They cling to the idea of falling in love and being with someone forever and they wear their hearts on their sleeves and they basically will do whatever it takes to fit in and find that 'life partner'. Because in reality wanting to find someone to spend the rest of your life with is normal. For hetros it comes a lot easier, out numbering the gays and all. But for gays it's harder with the smaller number and I think that shows in the number of people who find their partners later in life, when they're older. So I kind of wanted to show how that kind of works, how finding someone who accepts you when you're gay and can love you makes you get a little crazy and things tend to move a lot quicker.  I think in some way both ideas may be a little contradicting, maybe very contradicting. Trying to show the equality of love as well as showing the difference in love. But I suppose that may add for a 3rd factor being in an overall state, life is contradicting, we are contradicting. Us as humans are contradicting, our ideas and beliefs as a whole can be contradicting. Because at the end of the day we're all insane and there is no sense to be made of any of us because we continue to change, evolve and move forward so there's bound to be contradiction.

Those are my thoughts anyway based around my novel.

5 Steps to keeping a sharp mind.

1. Learn from all that you do - Taking notice of your actions or surrounding situations will allow you to become more aware. Therefore keeping concentration and perspective on point. It teaches you that there are lessons in all things and all moments are validated. 

2. Eating Right - If it's light than it's alright. Foods that are high in antioxidants and omega-3 have been proven to be great brain food. Anything that's light on the body, so excluding carbs, gluten, dairy minimizing these portions can have you feeling lighter, energetic and focused. 

3. Indulge in creativity - Allowing yourself to be able express and be creative can open up a world of your own. Finding hidden treasures, passion, inspiration and motivation. Constantly working your mind for new ideas and concepts.

4. Keeping Social - "When you interact with other people, it's likely that structures in the frontal lobe that are responsible for 'executive functions'—like planning, decision making, and response control—get fired up," explains Oscar Ybarra, PhD, associate psychology professor at the University of Michigan. Keeping a bubbly social life will keep the mind on fire as well as reducing cortisol, the stress hormone. 

5. Daily Meditation - Researchers have found that daily meditation may slow age-related brain deterioration as the practice of meditation alters the physical structure of the brain. Opening and clearing the mind allows for a clean slate that can be utilized to it's full advantage.

She asked what I was writing, almost so intrigued as though I was some mysterious creature that lurked in the shadows of the world. Hoping that she may expose me in some way like a caterpillar exposes itself after a long awaited time sealed in its cocoon disintegrating and shifting into this magical being. I think she could see me better than I seen myself before an abundance of words had even been exchanged. She seemed delighted in the pause I'd given her before delivering my inspirational pen work into the world of ecstasy that I just spent the last twenty minutes writing. Where on earth did this word vomit come from? I've never enjoyed sharing my writing before the task at hand was finished but she was almost like a magnet for truth. She was a magnet for truth and in that brief encounter she had drawn forth the truth in me. She smiled, that smile that went from ear to ear, the smile that was welcoming. She wished me a good day and hoped to read the final piece when it was published.

I was centred and alive. They say when you've found her the walls and boundaries that you kept up for so long and cherished as they kept you safe from harms way all begin to disintegrate. They weren't wrong that's for sure. Naked and exposed to a world of nudity, comfort and exhilaration. Yet without giving away too much, there was this knowing of unpredictable growth and change that neither of us were completely sure of but the secrecy of that revelation kept the fire burning during the winter nights of early January. The month of resolutions, change, a better me and a better you. I wasn't sure of the future, but January brought forth a feeling for change and betterment. Another year of trying to live up to my high expectations I'd planted myself at the beginning of another full cycle. She was with me and all of those high expectations were based, rooted from her very presence. She was what I wanted to live up to, she was the rawness of every inch of my being. She captivated me in such a way that I lost all peripheral vision. She was the tunnel to the light, the chamber to the heart.
