This may be a niche comparison but my favorite thing about Percy Jackson is also my least favorite thing about Hunter x Hunter

and that is how they go about portraying the feelings of 12 year old boys who have been abandoned by their fathers.

Like… it always upset me how much Gon loves his absolute piece of dog shit father and after reading PJO for the first time I so desperately wished that Gon treated Ging more like how Percy treats Poseidon.

Like okay…. You have Gon who’s dad abandoned him to become a hunter and his immediate response is “well if my dad left me to become a hunter than being a hunter must be dope as fuck”. And he goes through that entire fuck ass exam, and spend years hunting down his father because he loves him so much and he wants his dad to be proud of him for completing this exam just like he did only for him to finally find his dad at the end of this series and this mother fucker STILL SUCKS. Like he does not care in the slightest despite the fact that his kid nearly died in the previous arc (Leorio literally punches him in the face for not going to visit him in the hospital) and from what I remember the only reason he sticks around instead of running off again is because the rest of the hunters are like “your son is the most precious and kind boy on the planet, if you upset him by leaving him again we will kill you”. And throughout all of this Gon is just happy to have his dad back and still idolises him just as much.

Meanwhile, you have Percy mf Jackson, a fellow 12-year-old, who claps back THE SECOND someone says “you are Poseidon's son” with “he has ignored me my entire life. I am Sally Jackson’s son, she was the one who cared enough to call herself my parent!” And at least Poseidon is a god you know, he still sucks, but I’ll give him a little slack cause he’s ruling the ocean and creating horses and shit. But Ging is literally just some guy.

And then you have the comparison of Gon becoming a hunter like his father while Percy was literally offered the chance to become a god like his dad and turned it down and instead used that moment to berate the gods for not treating their kids with any respect. Like at the very least they could’ve had gon become a hunter, do a bunch of hunter shit for a few years, and then decide “nah I don’t particularly feel like abandoning my family over this, fuck my dad and his hunters license” ya know!

Anyway TL:DR I really want Gon to bitch slap his father and Percy Jackson, you will always be famous.
