FAVORITE CHAPTERS

(A&E) Ch. 5: Emotional Shock. Writing Carl and Leo felt very natural to me somehow as their voices came really easily.

(A&E) Ch. 15: New Year's Eve. I got to introduce my headcanon for Gav being a Magic Mike fan and great dancer. Him getting tipsy and essentially 'being his flirty self' instead of holding back bc Niner isn't deviant yet just made me so happy. I also tore my own heart out with the ending. It hurt.

(A&E) Ch. 17: Stay. My 1st Reed900 s*x scene. Despite me being ace, and s*x-repulsed, these intimate scenes are my favorite thing to write. I also love the little peck Gav gives Niner's oblivious jawline before they part ways.

Context: The line itself isn't much to write home about, but it's the way he says it in my mind. Best example I can give is the 0.04-0.05 second mark of this beautiful Reed900 edit: Reed900 | RK900 X Gavin Reed { Colors }. It's literally just the "Stay out of my way" line from the game, but the music makes it sound soft AF, and nearly completely quiets the "out of my way" part. So it just sounds like a whispered "stay." It's also a very profound thing of Gav to finally ask as he's earlier told Niner to get out of his life.

FAVORITE 'LIBEROSIS' LINES

(Ch. 6) Nines: "User 'Gavin Reed' not found."

(Ch. 7) Gavin: "We're meeting with Dick Perkins and the Powerpuff Girls down the road."

(Ch. 10) Nines: *after Gav asks what last name he wants to use* "I'm holding out for 'Reed'."

FUTURE FICS

As for future fics, also yes, I do have some plans! Said plans are both for the 'Alive' ficverse -- A&E and Liberosis are part of it -- as well as standalone Slow Burn works.

(The 'Alive' Ficverse) WebComic adaption of Liberosis.

(The 'Alive' Ficverse) Gav's bachelor party.

(The 'Alive' Ficverse) A parallel story where every 2nd chapter skips between two instances in Gav's life. One of them, he's at a stakeout with Niner whilst pining for him, and the other is Gav reminiscing about his past with his recent ex. Reminding himself of 'what went wrong' and why he shouldn't 'try again' to have a romantic relationship. I want to share the complicated Gav/Craig story as it has so many layers to it, but most ppl simply wouldn't be interested as it's not Reed900... thus I was sneaky and put in a parallel Reed900 story that ties into it, lol. Ppl are ofc easily allowed to skip the Gav/Craig parts in their entirety.

(The 'Alive' Ficverse) WebComic adaption of that parallel story.

(Slow Burn) Gav and Niner are at a stakeout where the former poses as a stripper while the latter poses as a bartender.

(AU - Slow Burn) Niner is a s*x android, accidentally gets involved with a case bc of a client, and works as an informant for Gav.

Hi, I'm also not the original asakiku anon, but regarding Japan and China fics, I recommend downloading the Asia edition of the following historical hetalia zine. The artists/writers are predominantly Asian and other POC. There’re multiple entries about Japan and China’s relationships with other Asians, listed chronologically below. A number explore Japanese imperialism really well too.

versailles, 1919: comic touching on china and japan’s historical relationship and sino-japanese tensions after WWI.

1942: japan focused-fic, character exploration about propaganda, nationalism and imperialism after the battle of midway.

wild: poem written from mongolia’s perspective in the 1960s but with references to china’s influence on her history.

the long spring: fic about china and manchuria/the qing dynasty. alternates between 1970s china and older flashbacks over the centuries.

letter from india to china: india reflecting on his relationship with china over the 20th century on the eve of the new millennium.

I encourage you and anyone else to also read the contributors' historical footnotes, to understand their characterization of Yao and Kiku and why it differs from how western fandom often overemphasizes them being soft, shy, cute, or emotionally-repressed/stunted next to more expressive white characters. I get that most ppl incl you aren’t ill-intentioned and are maybe thinking it makes Kiku (or Yao) endearing. But some tropes that are innocuous for white characters are condescending and inappropriate for fics where Yao and Kiku represent old nations. Because they stem from harmful, historical orientalist stereotypes that simplify, fetishize and infantilize east asians in very problematic ways to be love interests for white characters, and this was a distinct problem with how Kiku was depicted in SPE.

Additionally, intra-Asian relationships are important to providing more holistic characterization, because another issue is when i) historical hetalia fics make Japan or China disproportionately trusting or devoted to a white fave, while minimizing irl racism/imperialism they faced from said Western country in the interests of romance ii) while downplaying or omitting intra-Asian relationships that were in reality equally or far more important to Japan and China to center whiteness. As a Sino fan, I ship Asian+Western characters too (Eng/chu, Ame/pan), so I'm not against that. What I mean is being mindful, acknowledging unequal dynamics/grievances that did affect ties between that Asian and Western country as challenges the characters have to work through (or fail to do so, with consequences), and also visibly integrating Yao and Kiku's important relationships with other Asians into their characterization. Just as I’m sure few England fans would dispute France’s importance to England, even if Fruk isn’t their OTP, and would include him as a character in an England fic. I hope this all makes sense.

For me, definitely reading more as well as just experiencing as much as possible. I do quite a lot socially, but I just want to experience it all a bit more and a bit deeper. Also, doing more things out of my comfort zone and keep logging the memories I make.

On my part, I've been going through this depressive episode since around September, and I touched the bottom of the barrel around new year's eve, with unfortunately (TW) some unpleasant thoughts abt suicide. They wanted to admit me to the psych ward to keep an eye on me, but since it wasn't actually aimed to cure me, but only observation, I asked to be sent home.

I decided to go back to Turin for a few days even tho I was terrified of traveling (I had lived there for 7 years and moved back in with my parents in September) to stay with a friend of mine, basically nerding, eating sushi and chilling and wow, that helped me so much, along with ppl telling me that I used to be so fierce... and I was like, I'm so TIRED of being like this, I'm tired of speaking with everyone and ending up always blurting about my depression, I'm fed up of being a shell of what I used to be. And I made a resolution for myself: grab every ounce of strength that I have to pick myself up and go back to do the things I used to love, take time to recover and push back the exams until I've built up the motivation for them.

Aaaaaaand I got the flu. lol I was super prepared to kick asses and this mf just sneaked up on me with the worst cough since the 'Rona left my system. It's been a week and I spent my birthday in bed but I'm still up and running (not exactly running since I can't be out of bed much lol) but ye I don't want to feel down even tho I'm feeling like shit atm.

Jackie, now 19, falls in love with 01 and eventually gets pregnant with him, they decide it's time to get married, Evelyn is against they're marriage while Adam is thrilled, the foundation is created. 1924, TJ Bright is born. 1930, TJ Bright is contained no matter his older siblings protests. Jackie and 01 get divorced after they're child dies at the age of two. Jackie, now with no regard to her life, tales part in testing 113 (that stone that turns you the opposite gender, I hope I got it right) and 963, ending up in immortality. 1939, WW2 starts, Jack Bright, now as a White male, becomes a solider and meets the love of his life, Simon Glass there. Sarah Bright is born, we all know the story. (And if u don't go read 321 or 123 idk the number.) 1945, wars over, Jack and Simon are still together, Simon starts working as a field agent, it doesn't take much time for the foundation to realize he's too weak for that spot and hey, a new department called 'psychology' needs to be taken care of, and who else but a soft guy who can get to anyone? 1946, Claire the 2nd is born as well as David Blindman and Serra Argent. 1950, Serra is being started to train, Yorick Elroy is born to an unknown woman. David Blindman is blinded by his father, after he found out he will have to contain his son, Mikkel is an 05 at the time. 1961, Claire the 3rd is born (under the name Clark). Claire the 1st takes David Blindman in. During a containment breach Simon Glass bumps into 049 and, wait, shouldn't he be dead? They were both surprised as you are right now, if you are surprised ofc. Both Simon and 049 experiment on it, is Simon immortal? 1970 Simon Glass's theory is confirmed when during a raid by the Chaos Insurgency Simon Glass is shot, and isn't dead or wounded, of course he noticed he wasn't aging visibly but is it possible 049's touch made him immortal? 1979, David comes out to his aunt, Simon and Jack come out to the rest of family. 1983, Alto Clef has been born and contained, in December of that year Jack Bright is told to terminate the baby, he instead takes him home to his husband, they raised the kid. (And the 05's, well, let's jus say Jack has some uncomfortable info they don't want leaked...). 2000, Claire the 3rd comes out. 2003, Jack Bright and Simon Glass get married.

Nothing much happens till that time except for 166's Birth and containment.

2018, Claire the 1st dies, her family Mourns her death. 2019, Draven Kondraki and James Talloran meet and start dating. Alto Clef and Benjamin Kondraki get married.

2021, 166 somehow learns to control her anomalous effect, still, only family is allowed near her, they're not to touch her, and there must be at least three female guards with them.

2022, Family Christmas, James Talloran and Draven Kondraki announce they're engagement, family celebration, they spent new year's eve together.

OOO PLAYBOY IS ANOTHER I KNOW and love a lot. i mentioned once that i love the exo version but i always wished there was an official recording by jjong since both have different energies. i could go into it but i think jjong's live version he did once felt more... smooth? while the exo version feels a lot more playful and teasing. both are so good in different ways. it works so well with their voices imo but god i can only think of jonghyun when i hear it. it feels like such a Him song to write. i'll stop talking abt him but know that i do love the way EXO did the song.

In many ways, Gianna is Sal’s equivalent to Marcus. He loved her a lot, he felt used by her, and he told himself he would never fuck a high maintenance ultra femme girl again. (But he still hit Eve up when he saw her dating profile)

Before the events of Dear Diary took place, Sal always thought Gianna was hot. But she played hard to get. Secretly she was into his 🥰American sensibilities and hyper masculinity🥰 she was the type of girl who liked being chased to know she was wanted, so she enjoyed Sals flirtation and teasing. She was under the impression that Sal was middle class though. Because she felt ALL Americans were middle class due to what she saw on tv.

They started having a more romantic relationship when she lost her cat. Gigi was devastated and depressed. Sal would find the cat in his grandmothers yard lounging and he would proceed to make the journey, by foot, to Gianna’s home to deliver her cat. After that she deemed sal her hero, and was more openly affectionate with him.

Gianna was very needy and demanding in their relationship but sal liked catering to her, just like how he does with Eve. Plus if she was being annoying he would teach her improper words in English in revenge. Their relationship was a bit long distance, basically a reoccurring summer fling although they stayed in touch through social media. By the third year of their off/on relationship sal told her to come live with him.

Then Gianna’s bubble was burst when she saw sals rundown apartment. She was depressed, she got no respect, she was just a immigrant girl. They went through a particularly bad month in their relationship where she spent his money without consent (usually sal is fine buying presents for ppl he loves but when u do it without warning? That’s fucked up) on purses, nails, jewelry and hair. This led to sal telling her she couldn’t lay around the house all day she needs a fucking job. Gianna, still in the pursuit of not working, tried to convince sal to make a couples page with her on social media so they could possibly become celebrities that way. Sal didn’t want to, he was firm about it too.

Gianna ended up getting an occupation as a nail technician where she was treated like dirt. She was highly HIGHLY depressed, wanted to go home, and Sal couldn’t make her happy. She began flirting with a local guy from back home via text. Sal found out about this one night and he flipped the fuck out. That ended their relationship, and it paved the way for sal having brief trust issues.

But with that said…sal still cares about gigi. He doesn’t LOVE her, he loves eve now, but sal will always have a soft spot for women. He’d never want to see gigi abused by a man or in a dangerous situation, he’d feel compelled to help her although he never wants to be friends with her again. What she did to him hurts because it affected his pride and, at the end of the day, sal loved gigi way more than she loved him.

SYNTHESIS

alright deep breath

What struck me immediately, when starting these analyses of Walls, is how Kill My Mind contains these elements of christianity, of the devil, the hints at the story of the Garden of Eden, for the album to then come to a conclusion in Only the Brave, where the churches are burning (basically). My jaw dropped when I first realised that. It’s too perfect, too fitting, for it to be not deliberate. Of course, we know Louis didn’t write “much” on this song, but I’ll be damned if it wasn’t written for him, with his story in mind, and fit by Louis in the puzzle that is Walls. Religion doesn’t really play a role on the album at all, other than the hints of it on Two Of Us, where Louis seems to know he will see his mother again, but still isn’t entirely convinced if she can hear him or not. He’s spiritual in his own way, he knows his mother is with him and keeps an eye on him, but how far that goes in terms of an idea of heaven isn’t clear. And it also doesn’t seem to matter. 

This open and close with religious elements is telling us something, though. In KMM we’re in the Garden of Eden, Paradise, so fucking ready to fall into the traps of the devil whispering in our ear to just have a little taste. It’s pretty fucking clear that we do, as we’re “too far gone to pray”. Even the “prison of a past life” lyric there points me in that direction: we’ve left the confines of the garden, where life was seemingly perfect, but where we had no freedom and were basically cut off from the real world. The “sin” released us from that life of lies and exposed us to shame, doubts, hardships, but also the fullest, happiest version of love. A paradise within yourself. me digging deep to my paradise lost class notes for this

Louis has found that paradise within himself, that comfort and trust in his own being. He worships only that. Throughout his life he has learned that there is no place for him in the stories told in the history books, the bible, the romance novels. He found no recognition in them, and if he did, it was in a tale of warning: do not follow these desires, for this is what will come of you. Luckily, he chose to bite that forbidden fruit instead of falling for the tall tales that said he would be no more than a dying star. 

In fact, it seems like he almost aligns himself with those stories: if this is who he was born to be, from the cradle to the grave, he will be a dying star. sadly I can't really get into Killing Eve, but I *still* see "it's queerbaiting cos they haven't had sex yet" and my god ppl please, critically think for once?

Yeah, I don't know what to think about this one! I do get the sense that the show shies away from committing to their romantic connection sometimes; I definitely wouldn't have thought this to be the case after season three's finale had a lot of overtly romantic interactions between them (the DANCING the BRIDGE!), but season four kinda seems to be resetting the dynamic between them somewhat from what we've seen so far. (And it's been a little confusing because I cannot for the life of me tell if they had a falling out that we missed that we'll eventually be told more about or if we're just supposed to read their current interaction as what came right after s3!) However: there are still five episodes left in the season, so I'm not making a judgment yet because I still think there's tons of room for tons of stuff to happen.

I do think that Villanelle's love for Eve -- transformed from her earlier urge to possess her -- was articulated very beautifully in this most recent episode, and I'm really curious to see if this season we get to finally see Eve in a place where she can have those feelings back. At this point, I have no idea what to expect, but you do get the sense that narratively, that's where the show has always been going, ya know??

Anyway: I do think there's something to be said for the idea of something being romantic -- especially big R Terror And Awe Romantic -- specifically because the characters haven't had sex yet, which I think is the realm Killing Eve has always lived in and very likely will always live in. I personally am okay with that! I get why people are frustrated, but I don't think this is the show to look to for healthy relationship representation. (Which, duh, haha!) Even though I would love to see them actually be together, especially over many episodes, and I think their chemistry is so great that it would be a joy to witness, I also think that this show has always fundamentally been about the chase and the distance and I thiiiiiiiink I'm okay with that even through to the end. I like the crackling energy between them where the touch of a hand can be Everything!!

And like, yes, obviously they are both not straight women and obviously they are romantically obsessed with each other! Maybe the worry here is more like ... happily ever after-baiting? Although I don't think they've ever done that in the paratext of the show either, from what I recall. I think we all just want them to live happily, morally-wretchedly ever after, because we care about these characters and their relationship and it would be amazing. But I don’t know that not getting that is the show really breaking a promise; I don’t know if that’s ever a promise the show has made.

so anyways to preface a few things:

THESE ARE MY OWN DANG OPINIONS ON OBSERVATIONS I'VE MADE DURING MY TIME IN THE FANBASE. if you or someone you like does these things, then that's totally freakin fine! that just means that content isn't gonna be smth I'm gonna enjoy nor consume. anyone is allowed to have their own interpretations of the characters different from the text of the game, the only issue is when people take these interpretations to be canon/word of god and tout them around as such, thus spreading misinformation.

on that note, the things i write about in the section about flanderization are all things based on the text from the games, novels, mangas, and artbooks and if you disagree then just note that in ur head and move or tell me how my interpretation of the text given may differ from yours! i love discussing dmc lore and characterization with other fans!

this post will contain a lot of me doggin on fandom memes or interpretations and if a negative tone like that upsets you, then maybe just scroll past.

and lastly: a warning for a mention of self harm, but only a small mention. nothing in too much detail. read at your own discretion.

first off: yall gotta cool it with the dante haha pizza strawberry shit 😭😭 some ppl rly only reduce him to those things. even if they are his staple foods, he most certainly is not just that. its so annoying. see my tweets below:

next up: there is a HUGE problem with flanderization (reducing the characters to one or a few base traits that, although may be true, are not all a character is). its bad with dante but WAY worse with vergil. nero also suffers from it but its hard to observe cuz no his fanbase is far smaller than vergils and dantes, so I'm not gonna get into him here tbh.

in the case of vergil: ppl write him as a, to quote the johnlock fandom and toplock antis, "dark fuck prince" when he just isn't that. but then they write him as being completely out of touch when he just. isnt that. there's also the issue of the funny power chair haha memes being all he's reduced to.

his quest for power, although a funny haha, isn't all there is to him. he's on that quest because of his trauma and inferiority complex. he fears being weak because it's what he felt when he lost everything and everyone he cared abt.

more than likely, he feels some level of regret for what he put nero through as a father. and although he didnt speak much with him, he still felt he got to connect with him though his time as V, and was able to communicate with him through their battling at the end of 5 (hence his lack of concern for how he felt to have met nero as his son when dante asked).

in the case of dante: there is an issue with interpreting Dante as a hypermasculine, super cool action hero who's a total ladies man and a womanizer. but there's the opposite end with the interpretation of dante almost as if he's a child clinging to a toy with no fight in him. while both of these interpretations of Dante hold weight to some extent, they are taken to either extreme which weakens his character. dante is very multifaceted.

he is very introspective but appears to just be very simpleminded and cocky, a man who loves to goof around and likes to act like the heroes in the movies he watches or the comics he reads (as seen in the dmc1 novel and dmc5). but then u peel back that layer of cockiness, and u see he's just a down to earth guy who just wants to make it to the next day. but then you peel back that down to earth layer, and he's a man so desperate to deny his heritage and insistent on his humanity. but then u peel back that layer, and he's a deeply traumatized man with a strong sense of right and wrong who cares deeply for everyone around him, even those who have hurt him. he's come to acknowledge the fact that he won't be able to save everyone, but he has yet to accept that fact. at the end of the day, none of those layers of Dante are fake, they're all apart of him. he can still be a fun loving goof who is still very caring to those around him and depressed. but so many fans just do surface level things or think he can only be one or the other at a certain time rather than a mix of all.

dante is a man with a lot of love to give and he's very down to earth. he might not be forthcoming about what he wants but when he wants smth he yearns for it rather than acting and trying to get it. more than anything, though, he doesn't want to be alone. he really can't be left alone because of his introspective nature; otherwise, he'd get so lost in his own head and heart, to the point where he can't get out of his head, so it'd lead to him harming his body to try and find a way out.

letter number 3: i dont like how some ppl write dialogue for Dante and vergil im so sorry 😭😭

I've seen ppl write dante like he's a cowboy. he talks very casual but he's not like that.

getting into that why do ppl feel the need to try and write out every quirk of a characters' speech in text? like with nico or morrison or cowboy dante? like just write it out normally i can still hear it in the characters' voices when its normal.

but anyways, for vergil, a lot of ppl write him like hes a thesaurus. i feel like this just stems from the way he uniquely enunciates his words. his speech is not far off from Nero or Dante's casual speak, he just sprinkles in a few more formal words or enunciates normal words in a way that makes them sound fancy or bigger.

number d: i dont think nero can carry his own game. i just dont. call me a filthy Dante stan, but dmc is about the story of dante and his family? hence why hes the main character? so to have a game with just nero would make it feel weaker and detract from those themes. as well, there's so many more stories thar can be told with dante and/or vergil with nero there too either after 5 or before 5. like what happened in the ten years between dmc3 and dmc1? why did Dante's demeanor change so much from 2 to 4? what other stories could be told between the previous games?

???: dante might as well be a female character with how little itsuno likes to use him and do stuff with him.

finally: vergil stans have had it too good I'm coming for u guys. we get it itsuno loves vergil and nero and will give them everything. meanwhile dante stans have to deal with the scraps matt walker fights for us to have. yall are too loud and act like the minority when you guys are the majority 😭😭😭
