Of anything Valor was expecting to see today, it was not someone with a tattoo of something unequivocally and undeniably from the Boiling Isles. Sure, the human realm had stories about creatures that harkened back to ones that had likely come from the demon realm, but over time their appearances had warped to such an extent that they were quite distinct from the actual creatures they were sourced from.

So to find something that actually looked like something from the Boiling Isles . . .

Someone who'd been to the Boiling Isles was here. Whether they'd always lived there or it was a human that found their way there and made it back . . . He wasn't going to pass up this chance. It'd been more than 20 years since he and Flicker had gotten stuck here, and even if this person didn't have a way back, even just having someone else to talk to that had been in the Boiling Isles and knew what it was like would be invaluable.

The one who'd gotten the tattoo directed him to the mall, and luckily the artist was not that difficult to find there.

He stood at the edge of the hallway watching her for a few moments, working up his courage, before readjusting the bandana that covered his ears and approaching.

"Hello?"

Mid raises a curious eyebrow at the sight of the flower. She knows she's not always easy on Olin, but he's so easy to tease! She really can't help herself! And here he is, handing her a gorgeous wyvern tail. She gently takes it and smiles brightly before her attention is back on the boy. She puts her free hand on his shoulder.

"This flower is beautiful, Olin! Purple is a very great color, right ?" she exclaims, letting a brief chuckle escape her mouth. "Did I do something special to deserve it ?"

    Before the day had started, the same confidence that propelled him through the campaign was there. It had wavered in the past few months but something reignited in him the night before and carried through for most of the days events.

As if timed perfectly with his groan, the elevator suddenly stops. "Just what I need," he grumbles as he presses the emergency button. "

Roger hadn't even seen it coming, completely lost in his train of thought as he'd rambled on, a word vomit about certain types of guitars and acoustic vs electric and chord progressions spewing out of his mouth, hands gesticulating wildly. It was probably a good thing he'd actually put his guitar down because otherwise he likely would have ended up causing damage, but his eyes were bright nonetheless.

And then, as he turned his head to glance back at Mark, lips on his. All too fleeting, but they served their purpose at least, halting previously mentioned train of thought dead in it's tracks as he gaped open-mouthed back at the other. For a moment he just stared, before brain function finally returned and he pouted playfully.

"You could have just told me to shut up you know."

Survival - Rion AU

Dimos went in search of food, leaving the young prince to stay in the relative safety of the church. He knew that if ever needed help he could yell for the soldier, though when he attempted to call for his guardian, the only thing that came from the prince was a quiet wheeze. Instead it would strike up a coughing fit, alerting the scavengers to his location. It would be their talking that summoned the gunman, firing a shot between the prince and the strangers. A warning to leave the boy alone, as he wouldn’t miss again.

One of the pair of strangers held her hands up in an attempt to appease the clockwork soldier. They knew of someone who might be able to help the fading prince. Where Rion’s country is known for military might, this one is known for medicine. They offered to take the pair there, but not for free. They needed payment for their guidance. It takes the prince a moment to get his shaking hands to work, pulling out a pocket watch of royal quality, offering it to them for payment.

The young prince's face would fall as the leader of the group shook their head, not wanting something so obviously expensive that would bring soldiers to their homes in search of an explanation. Try as he might to explain that he had nothing else, it would be Dimos that spoke up and informed them that he would be willing to help them with whatever it was they wished. And for a moment it looked like they would refuse, leave him them there to fend for themselves, before someone spoke up about the soldiers paying well for a clockwork soldier.

Not left with much of a choice, Dimos accepts, much to Rion's panic. He doesn't want his friend to be used as a bargaining chip. He would relay as much to whomever he could the moment he could form full words again. It would be the commander of the platoon stationed in this town that assured him that he would get his soldier back.

They wanted to know how to disable the current generation, and Rion very quickly offers his knowledge in the process and locations of the factories producing the soliders. All he wanted in return was treatment and Dimos back. And while he would get just that, Rion is now a protected asset of this country.

Why would they give up a source of knowledge, or at worst a bargaining chip.

Things were slow at the botanical garden today. Really, Valor wished he could be out tending to the plants or the butterfly house, but they were short staffed and someone had to run the gift shop. At least if no one was around that meant he didn't have to deal with people, but it also meant that it was boring. He'd already done everything he could today; what else was there to do?

The bandana pinning his ears down prevented them from pricking as he heard the sound of someone entering the shop. Finally, something to do.

He glanced up to see who exactly it was that had entered.

She knows her mother-in-law doesn't like closeness in general, but because of the question, Mid has no choice to approach slightly. And then, she takes a breath, inhaling deeply. She then moves back and faces Anabella, hesitating. Yes, there's a particular smell. Is it a smell of roses ? Mid is not that sure. It feels like something fresh, though. Anabella smells good, whatever is that smell.

"This is... This is a good smell, Lady Anabella," she assures, letting a chuckle escape her mouth before a bright smile remains on her lips. "Why are you asking me this ? i think it’s interesting how the fandom reacts to the characters of will and steve and their individual cases of (perceived) unrequited love.

like with steve, when conversations about his love for nancy come about, a lot of people will reject it with: “he’s not actually in love with her” and “he needs to move on to fulfil his character arc of prioritising platonic love” and even “he’s pathetic for still being in love with nancy over a year after they broke up”.

and yet, when it’s about will, people will defend his (currently unrequited) crush on mike with things like: “well it has to happen or what’s will been in love with mike for?” and “it’ll be bad writing if it doesn’t happen” and even “will can’t just move on from mike, that’ll go against the thesis of the show.”

(granted the people saying these things aren’t always the same person, but it is common)

and yet if we look at their individual characters, steve’s achieved his character arc of realising the importance of platonic love, and will hasn’t really had good interactions with his friends outside of mike. who he has a crush on.

and i know what a lot of people will say, that it’s different because will is queer, but i honestly think that’s a weak argument (and not just because i don’t think will is great queer representation). queer love isn’t purer, nor is it inherently more important or deserving of a good conclusion.

(honestly i think the same can be said for the way a lot of this fandom talks about queer ships, not just byler, but i’m talking about will and steve rn so)

but yeah idk. i just think the way people talk about these two characters can be kind of ironic
