Okay, this is going to sound random.
Maybe it’s because some of my favorite writers here write both Daredevil and Kin (for example - @bellaxgiornata or @farfromstrange) my muses keep trying to figure out how to crossover the two shows.
Me: “I can’t write this. I haven’t even watched Kin.”
Muses: “Sounds like a you problem.”
I think they are just amused by the idea of Matt Murdock and Michael Kinsella being in the same room because they are both played by Charlie Cox. Keep telling them that Daredevil and an Irish mobster in one room is a recipe for a fight. And why would Michael be in New York or Matt in Dublin?
Muses: “Again, all that sounds like a you problem.”
Plus how does one deal with how you explain, in-universe, why they look so much alike?
There is the The Prince and The Pauper route where they are strangers who just happen to look identical.
Or the more logical route that they are related somehow. We don’t know much about Matt’s family. We have a mention of Matt’s grandmother but no idea if that was paternal or maternal - through given Matt’s lack of knowledge about his mother, I’m inclined toward the former. Were Jack and Maggie both only children?
For example, maybe Maggie was actually born Maggie Kinsella but changed her name to distance herself from her criminal family. Maybe despite that desire, she had some fondness for Michael hence why Matt’s middle name is Michael.
Mistaken identity hijinks could range from amusing (”When did you grow a beard?”) or hazardous (“Do ya really think shaving off that beard means I don’t recognize ya, Kinsella?”)

January 2023 Media Recap
I don’t know if I’m going to do this every month, but I thought I’d do a recap of all the things I’ve watched and read in January, and share a few thoughts on some of them.
Movies Watched:
1. Star Wars VI
Technically this one was a rewatch, but it was still a very fun time.
2. Barbie Princess and the Pauper
Also technically a rewatch, but I haven’t watched it in more than 10 years, so I didn’t remember a lot of it. Very cute movie, though.
3. Fellowship of the Ring
Yes, I finally watched it. Yes, I loved it. Yes, whenever I saw memes of this before watching it, I thought Aragorn and Boromir (and I think Faramir, though I haven’t met him yet) were the same person.
4. Absolute Zero
Cheesy disaster movie, with a clear message of “We have to try to save everyone. Yes, even the rude and selfish businessman nobody likes. Because it’s the right thing to do, we must fight tooth and nail for him like we would anyone else.” And also family. Will I rewatch it? Probably not, but still a good time.
5. Disaster Zone: New York
“Hey, there’s suddenly a volcano under New York, and also humans made it, and also Abby from Sanctuary talks like a mobster from the 40s for no apparent reason.” Fun time, though I could have done without the one super gory scene early on where everyone was being affected by the water.
6. Curse of King Tut’s Tomb
This seemed to be two movies? Or two in one? I’m a little confused, but I’ll just count it as one. Not really a fan of the “gods and demons” storyline, and I probably won’t rewatch it, but I have to admit that it looked like a fun movie. Like, every single actor seemed to be having the time of their lives.
Books Finished:
1. 60 Ways to Keep Your Brain Sharp
Most of this was pretty standard stuff, and some of the psychology didn’t really sound right, but some of it was helpful!
2. To Kill A Mockingbird
Wow. Definitely not what I was expecting, and a very interesting read, for sure.
3. A Voice in the Wind
Francine River’s style gives me mixed feelings-there’s a fine line between portraying sin to make a point and taking it too far, and she walks that line a lot-but it’s a really well done story, and a compelling cast of characters. Not a fan of Marcus in this book, but don’t worry, there’s book 2.
4. The Mistletoe Favor
Standard Hallmark-style love story, very cute. All of the characters are way too emotionally aware, but it literally brought me to tears, so, hey, it works.
5. Unveiled
Not my favorite of the Lineage of Grace novellas, but it’s objectively as good as them. It just hurts so much to read. It’s the story of Tamar, and the poor girl goes through so much in it.
6. Unafraid
The story of Mary. A really impressive book in the Lineage of Grace series, and really interesting. Very intense. Also, fair warning to my Catholic friends (beloved), it definitely ends on a firm note of... Taking the side against Catholicism. On another note, Joseph is such an interesting character in it!
7. Be The Boss of Your Stuff
A book for kids about organization, cleaning, tidying, and sorting. We don’t need to talk about how helpful it was for me, an adult. (Very)
8. An Echo in the Darkness
The sequel to Voice in the Wind, and personally, I like it a little bit more. It introduces a few new characters that I really like, and Marcus wins me over, though I’m still a bit annoyed by some of the stuff he pulled in the first book. Still, a really satisfying conclusion to quite a few storylines, while leaving a few from Book 1 open for Book 3.
9. From Lost to Found
Nonfiction book about perfectionism that punched me in the face. Repeatedly. Excellent book. Trigger warning for stories involving miscarriage if you read it, though.
10. Trade Your Cares for Calm
A practical look at the best ways to set worry aside. Short and sweet.
TV Show Episodes Watched:
1-12. Once Upon a Time in Wonderland 1x02-1x13
I’ve already rambled about this a lot, but it was such a sweet fairytale story, and I really enjoyed it!
13-14. Spiderman: The New Animated Series 1x07-1x08
I don’t really watch this one often, but it’s good for if I don’t have much time to watch anything, or I’ve watched something scarier than expected and need to unwind. I’d enjoy it more with like. 80% less relationship drama, though.
15. Dollhouse 1x01
Just watched the first episode of this, and I’m kind of on the fence. It depends on how it’s done, I suppose, and how it holds up, content-wise. We shall see. It’s a super interesting concept, though.
-
Best movie watched in January: Fellowship of the Rings
Best book finished in January: An Echo in the Darkness, though From Lost to Found gets a really close second
Best TV show watched in January: OUAT in Wonderland
-
On a final note, here are all the fics I posted in January:
1. A Wonder to See (Sanctuary, Emotional Compass mermaid AU ficlet)
2. I Never Dreamed of This (Timeless, Garcy nightmare fic)
3. The Perils of Normalcy (Sanctuary, Magnitt domestic fluff AU ficlet)
4. All in a Day’s Work (Sanctuary, Will and Helen friendship, mild whump)
5. How We Move On (Sanctuary/Timeless crossover, Helen and Garcia interaction, time travel ficlet)
6. Inevitable (Timeless, Wyjess whump fic)
7. A Helping Hand (Sanctuary, Emotional Compass whump/caretaking fic with lots of hair brushing)

Marc Cameron Interview
Breakneck by Marc Cameron comes alive with a train ride deep into the Alaskan wilderness. US Marshal Arliss Cutter along with the Alaskan setting plus the Russian mob make for a good thriller recipe. There is plenty of action, suspense, and mystery.
The main plot line has Deputy US Marshal Arliss Cutter and his partner, Lola Teariki assigned to a security detail at a judicial conference in Fairbanks.  They are appointed to the protective detail of US Supreme Court Justice Charlotte Morehouse and her teenage daughter Ramona. After the conference ends, they decide to take a scenic train ride to explore the Alaskan wilderness on the famous Glacier Discovery Train. Unfortunately, no one suspects the Russian mobster, Maxim Volkov, who wants the Justice dead in retribution for the role she played in the death of his wife.  The Russians are brutal, unrepentant, and have no qualms about killing anyone who gets in their way.  The train’s confined space makes the Justice an easy target.  To save the Justice, Arliss has them both jump overboard.  This is where another antagonist, the setting, comes into play.
The other sub-plots involve the growing romance between Lola and Anchorage Policeman Joe Bill Bracket, the pursuit for truth about Arliss’s brother Ethan’s death, and the need for Arliss and his sister-in-law Mim to address their feelings for each other.
This story takes off, putting readers on a wild ride with the characters who are fighting for their survival.  The action is authentic, the characters well written, and the plot intense.
Elise Cooper: The idea for the story?
Mark Cameron: All these books are boiling around in my mind from my career. I wanted to write about the different jobs of US Marshals including a protection “gig” for my main character Arliss.
EC: How would you describe US Supreme Court Justice Charlotte Morehouse?
MC: For many years my primary focus in the Marshal service was protecting Supreme Court Justices and District Judges. It is something I am familiar with including the setting of Alaska. Justice Morehouse lives in an insulated world and has a position of power.  She rises above people waiting on her and doing all the research. She is a good listener and a good person. I did not write her as a damsel in distress, but Arliss did help her survive Alaska. She has a teenage daughter, Ramona who Lola, Cutter’s partner, protects, interacts with, and can show a playful side.
EC:  Was Morehouse based on anyone?
MC:  None of the characters are based on any one person.  But she was inspired by those I met.  I was on Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor’s detail a few times. I met her when she had come to Alaska to fish.  I always respected her demeanor, a wise human being. I interacted with Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg since I was the Chief when she came to Alaska. I wanted to write about how the US Marshals protected them. We protect everybody equally and stay out of the politics.
EC:  You mention in the book another types of law enforcement, VPSO?
MC:  It stands for Village Public Safety Officer. They have a motto, “First Responders in the last frontier.” They are funded by the state and the tribes.  It is a quasi-law enforcement type.  They help the state troopers.  They are generally unarmed but do carry teasers, pepper spray, and a baton. Many times, they are in places where there are no troopers stationed and do have power to arrest. They do everything from combating criminals, fires, and do search/rescue. I wrote about this profession with the character George Polty.
EC:  How did the setting of Alaska play into the plot?
MC:  The Alaska setting is an antagonist because it is so brutal. The Alaskan wilderness is uncaring and scary. The wind, the snow, and the river.  Whether a billionaire or pauper the river can drown someone. People must learn to go on the wilderness’s terms.  If someone fights it head on, they will lose. There is no fair. If someone is not smart the setting can kill them.
EC:  There was also the Alaskan train.  Did you do any research?
MC:  My wife and I rode it just last year. I flew over it, took some boats, and then four wheelers to make sure I was familiar with the area. It is wild, off the grid. The train goes through once a day during the season, but the rest of the time it is locked in snow and ice. When the snowpack melts there are chunks of ice, scouring the riverbank. The river rises and turns turbulent.
EC:  What is the role of Captain Tom Walker, a former Army Ranger sniper?
MC:  He represents those people who is a loner, odd duck.  He hides out, sick of civilian civilized life.  Arliss Cutter is envious of his simple life.
EC:  Why the Russian mob angle?
MC:  I said in the beginning of the book, Russia is just like Alaska except they have tigers. It is the same setting.  The wilderness is the same.  Russia is just across the water from some of the Alaskan islands.
EC:  Where are you going with the relationship between Mim and Arliss?
MC:  She married his brother, Ethan, who died a few years ago. She is a little scared of her own feelings.  The next book will show where they will be headed.  Some readers will think that there is an attraction between Mim and her brother-in-law, Arliss. Hopefully I laid the groundwork that he is not a stalker, but their feelings have been a long slow burn. But I think most people will think that if they get together it will be organic and natural.  He is damaged, having lost his last wife to cancer; she is widowed; and they do have a past when they were sixteen and dated.
EC:  Can you explain the meaning of Grandfather Grumpy’s credo, “never go anywhere for the first time”?
MC:  It means talk to people who have been there already, don’t go anywhere blind. Read up about it. Get all the information you can. All these sayings I have learned along the way. I started in law enforcement in the eighties.  I worked with cowboys, Viet Nam vets, my own grandparents.  I used their rules and put them in Grumpy’s words when they fit the narrative.
EC:  Next book?
MC:  The overall arc about Ethan’s death will continue. It is titled Bad River. There will be a murder investigation in the far Alaskan north, around Utqiagvik.  It will be out a year from now.
THANK YOU!!

Spirk Princess And The Pauper AU or Cold Night On Shikahr please? Restrains self from listing them all in a frenzy those sound wonderful
Cold Night On Shikahr is the “vibes only” mobster AU which exists in my head, in which the Sch’n Tgai family are the mafia. Obviously this makes absolutely no sense and the worldbuilding involved to justify it would be insane, but I have a Youtube playlist for it, which is always the first step to me starting a new writing project, so it’ll probably manifest itself against my will at some point, so I have a dump file open on my computer to store deleted passages from other projects.
Excerpt from chapter one of The Spirk Princess And The Pauper AU:
“Welcome, Admiral,” The Empress says, as she steps into the light. “I am grateful you had the bravery to meet with me.”
The Empress is dressed in a light blue dress, with a matching cloak. A few wisps of dark brown hair poke out of the top.
Winona bows lowly. “Thank you, your… Excellency,” she straightens up with a smile. “But it was not a question of bravery. In fact, there was a small fight over who would get the honour of meeting with you.”
The Empress arches an eyebrow with a smirk, and gestures to the chair opposite. “Good,” she says. “Perhaps the Federation isn't as headstrong as I thought it was.”
Winona sits, hesitantly, with her most charming smile. “Or perhaps we simply know when we're outgunned.”
The Empress studies her for a moment, her expression guarded, and it looks... familiar, somehow. "We have much to discuss," she purrs, as she gestures to one of the servants behind her. He approaches, and pours out two glasses of water, every movement calculated and graceful. Winona watches more closely. Upturned eyebrows; pointed ears. A Vulcan.
Winona stiffens, and looks the Empress in the eye. "A ceasefire," she says.
Her mouth twitches. "Perhaps." She tilts her head, then indicates the pitcher of water again. "I suppose it'd be too much to ask you to take a drink?"
She tilts her head. “I think I’ll pass. Given what happened to the last Starfleet ambassador…”
The Empress smiles. “An unfortunate accident.” The same servant approaches from the corner, and pours a drink. The Empress lifts her glass. "Would it reassure you if we drank from the same pitcher?" she says.
She laughs nervously. "Your servant is a Vulcan," she says, trying to inject her statement with humour. "They're telepaths."
“You misunderstand,” The Empress says. “They are, largely, only capable of touch-telepathy… Outside their bondmates.” Her eyes glimmer dangerously.
Winona blinks, and draws her glass closer to herself. “I meant no offense.”
“Oh,” The Empress smiles, “I don’t hold the same backwards views as others in the empire.”
“You view the Vulcans as-” she glances to the Vulcan man in the corner. “- Equals?”
 “In a sense.”
Winona raises the glass to her lips, and attempts to inhale covertly. It doesn’t smell of anything discernable, but, then again, there are plenty of poisons which don’t give off any kind of odour, and those are just the ones she knows about.
“Tell me, Winona; how much are you willing to compromise, for peace?”
“I have dispensation from The Federation to make certain concessions; within reason.”
“That’s good,” The Empress smiles. “But, what I have to ask has less to do with The Federation than it does with you.”
 “Your highness?”
“I did my research, Admiral Winona. I have a son, as do you.”
“I have two,” Winona says, haltingly. “But, I don’t see-”
“- It is the unmarried one who interests me. Your youngest; James Kirk.”
 “- Jim?”
“The citizens of the Terran Empire would be more receptive to our new alliance if it were marked by a symbolic gesture of unity.”
Winona’s heart beats a little faster. Surely, she can’t mean-
“Though the histories of our Universes differ, marriages were often used on Earth to forge alliances between kingdoms and nation-states, were they not?”
“Yes,” Winona swallows, “Though, usually kingdoms, more than nation states.”
The Empress waves a hand. “Needless to say, the practise went on as long as there was royalty or high-status individuals to continue it.”
“The Federation believes in equality for all its members-”
“Nevertheless, there is still status. Such as Admirals. Or Starship Captains.”
Winona hesitates. “While I understand the sentiment, I can’t make an agreement based on the commodification of Federation citizens. Land, goods, trade agreements- those are all on the table. But not-”
“- Why not?” The Empress fixes her with a piercing gaze. “If the war continued without us reaching an agreement, it would be Federation citizens who suffered. Besides, this is a personal matter. You are the matriarch of your family, and you, alone, are responsible for its decisions.”
“That’s not how it works in our universe-”
 “Well, it should.”

since the first step in achieving your goals is to state them aloud, here's a list of aftg fics/ au s that i'd like to write some day
- pre-canon fic from aaron's perspective spanning the twins' first meeting till they're drafted by the foxes and graduate high school. i'm increasingly enamored with aaron as a character as well as with an outside perspective of andrew's actions and i think it would be very interesting to look at the foundation on which their fraught relationship is built and first developed
- even more pre-canon fic. andrew's early life in foster care. yes, we all know about the most... gruesome things that were done to him, but i believe that there is plenty more that has affected and shaped him, especially in relation to my interpretation of andrew as an autistic poc. this would not be a happy fic.
- anastasia au. neil as anya, andrew as dimitri. possibly a plot amalgamation from both the animated movie and the stage show, with changes as i see fit. (no, neil is not the prince of russia). what i find most compelling about this au is the story of neil and andrew as childhood friends and then the angst of having andrew, as an adult, teaching an amnesiac neil how to act like a noble while being convinced that neil is an imposter. good shit
- art school/dance club au. the foxes attend the palmetto school of art at prestigious edgar allen university. they're considered the school's charity cases, and they are NOT friends. andrew is a studio arts major with a concentration in sculpture who works in the campus coffee shop in the mornings and frequents night clubs that employ pretty boys in the evenings. neil is attending college completely on his father's dime, PROVIDED he study what his father wants, despite his desire to study dance and music. going crazy without an outlet, neil takes a secret job as a go-go dancer. look. this may slightly possibly be a result of me having planned to party hardy this summer, then having my plans ruined by the virus :c
- 1950s High School au. the 1950s aesthetics fucking rock even though the 1950s fucking sucked. kinda wanna tackle both. plus, andrew already has that james dean bad boy fast car appeal
- an exploration of mary and nathan's relationship and history. i get that neil's parents are both super taboo and both really really awful people, but i have questions and i want to answer them
- neil never returns from baltimore. in order to keep his deals, permanently, andrew kills riko and tetsugi, and gets over 20 years in prison. when he gets out, he just wants to be alone, but it seems there's a ghost haunting him. this was conceived for MAXIMUM angst, no getting around it. i got the idea from a badacts fic and it has haunted me ever since
- post-canon sexuality exploration fic. i have a real passion for quality sex education and healthy experimentation, and neil very clearly didn't get the chance for either. yet at the end of the books he finds himself in a very intense sexual relationship. i just really want to give him the opportunity to find out how desire works for him and what he likes, on his own terms. i read a lot of fics where neil's desires seem to be completely dependent on andrew's initiaton, and while i do believe that andrew is the only person neil is attracted to and will ever be attracted to, i also want to explore how his sexuality manifests on its own. the vibe i'm going for is, uh, HornySweet (tm), but also with a lot of genuine eductional material. i want this is to be something that offers real information to its readers that may have been inaccessible for a lot of people, on topics like like sexual hygiene, maturbation, and sex toys in a non-fetishy way. this will be very very E rated, but like,, in a very earnest and goofy way because sex and sexuality is neat and cool but it's also not all serious perfect fucking. it's just,, a topic that deserves to be DISCUSSED
- mobster au. andrew, having never met aaron, takes a job for the moriyamas to track down a runaway asset. Neil. upon completion, they make andrew the butcher's apprentice, and pull neil back into the fold as a commodity rather than a person. lots of violence, lots of shady underground dealings, lots of plotting, lots of secrets.
i'm gonna put some more under the cut, ones that i don't feel as strong a drive towards right now or that i haven't thought as much about. if you (yes, YOU) like any of these, or are interested in any of these, or wanna hear more about any of these, or are even inspired to write something yourself by any of these please, PLEASE, say something in the notes, or send me a message, or an ask or anything. ANYTHING. i am stuck inside, all the time, and i am so, so lonely. i answer from hoob-gooblin
- princess bride au. come ON. princess bride is one of the most romantic AND most snarky movies of all time, and andreil literally invented love and devotion sooooooo it's a perfect match. "yes or no" vs "as you wish" kings of consent and communication and unconventional love declarations. also,, he may not be how I imagine andrew, but a young cary elwes in dramatic black pirate getup is DEFINITELY a valid andrew
- hozier au. sometimes,, i listen to an album, and imagine a fic that encompases the whole thing. nothing speaks louder to me than hozier's discography. (also, yes, i am gay). maybe a little bit inside llewyn davis. neil wanders through a small town and takes up some small jobs, but sings his heart out through twisted metaphors once a week in a hole in the wall bar staffed by a very short, dead eyed veteran
- prince and the pauper au. on a stealth recon mission in enemy territory, andrew encounters a local lord who happens to have his face. in a moment of desperation to save himself from arrest, andrew knocks the lord out and assumes his identity. he returns to the castle just in time for prince moriyama to arrive with a shifty-eyed, red-headed handservant in tow. lord aaron of columbia, meanwhile, wakes up on a ship manned by crown traitor and fugitive kevin day, calling him by a name he's never heard before, and then he's in the hands of the guerilla rebel forces that have been attacking the kingdom. i watched barbie princess and the pauper as a child and that movie fucking slaps
- little mermaid/beauty and the beast/bride of the rose beast/ladyhawke au. in a last ditch attempt to escape his father, neil trades his voice and his tail for legs and washes ashore on a small kingdom with horrible secrets. because he cannot speak, read or write, prince aaron employs neil to serve the monster in the catacombs, the prince's twin brother. the twins are under a curse that turns them into terrifying monsters, andrew by day and aaron by night. aaron's affliction is a secret, as is andrew's humanity. this is such a hodgepodge idea lol. did neil also have to be a mermaid for this to work? no. is he? hell yeah
- new york private school/twin swap au. aaron wins a scholarship to a prestigious school that will guarantee him a future, but then he relapses. convinced he just needs a little more time to get clean, he makes a deal with his volatile new brother, andrew, to stand in for him at the school just until he can his shit together. neil and ichirou moriyama have been raised together their entire lives, always under the knowledge that ichirou will inherit the family empire with nathaniel as his right hand. they hate the idea, but they have no way to escape, and now neil is being harassed by ichirou's bitchass estranged brother at their stupid, fancy private school. LISTEN, we as a fandom do NOT take enough advantage of the twin swap possibilities presented to us. pathetic
- post-canon fic where ichirou, realizing that the life of a mob boss is a lonely one, decides that he needs... a friend. however, because of the nature of his work, he can't just make friends with anyone, so he decides to make friends with neil. without consulting neil first. cue a lot of very weird, very awkward coffee dates where neil is convinced he's about to be disposed of, and ichirou just wants to know about his cats. the thing i like about ichirou is he’s a complete blank slate. i can make him a good guy, a bad guy, an ally, the Big Bad
- Kill Bill au. mary survives a bullet to the head and wakes up from a coma over a year later. with nothing left to lose, she sets out to single-handedly dismantle the wesninski circle. good thing she used to be its top assassin
- single dad andrew au. except look, look, stay with me here, okay, aaron is his son, and he's adopted nicky and kevin. LISTEN. STAY WITH ME. JUST THINK ABOUT IT. tbh the idea comes from my interpretation of the andrew/neil/kevin dynamic as distincly parental, then extending that interpretation to andrew's protection over the rest of his family.
- fashion au. andrew is a fashion designer and photographer who frequently works with allison reynolds. one day she brings around a short, twitchy assistant who looks like she just plucked him out of an alley. somehow, he becomes andrew's muse. i watch a lot of fashion competition shows
- ghibli. either howl's moving castle (andrew as sophie, neil as howl) or spirited away (?). maybe both idk
- legally blonde au. legally blonde is so good guys

Hello my gorgeous writers, artists and general content creators! We’ll be hosting an It Chapter 2 week to celebrate the release of the new movie!
The event will run from the 30th of August till the 5th of September. For each day you can choose from two prompts and post any sort of content (moodboards, headcanons, fics, playlists, artwork etc) as long as it relates back to It in someway.
We’re fine with ALL content as long as it has been tagged appropriately AND all possible trigger warnings are listed PRIOR to the content.
On the day, just use the tag #itchapter2week or mention this blog in your post (@itchapter2week) and we’ll reblog your content.
The Prompts are:

Do I have to follow the prompt suggestions?
All the prompts are up to your interpretation, so you can write them however you want. The suggestions are just there to give you an idea of what you can do. However,  feel free to you use any of the above suggestions if you so desire.
Are there certain characters or ships that you cannot write about?
No, we don’t believe in policing you in who you can or cannot like or ship. Even if they’re problematic, as long as the content is tagged appropriately and warnings are added, we’re fine with all content.
What happens if I don’t put out a content warning?
If we find any possibly triggering content that is missing a tag in submissions, we will not reblog the post until the additional tags have been added but we will notify you should this occur.
Can you post the content on other sites?
Sure, you can use the tag #itchapter2week on Tumblr, Instagram, Ao3, Twitter or any other social media platform. However, the content from other sites won’t be reposted by us on this blog unless we’re given a link.
If you have any more questions feel free to ask, our inbox is always open.
