Traffic/Life series roster as dinosaurs

A lot of these don't make for very good hybrids unless you wanna get into freaky territory or full on centaur but... Hope it's a fun scroll nonetheless!

Grian - Novialoidea

A small birdie... The name also means "New wings" which I find fun. New lives and death games to be part of, new wings to accompany him... (Honorable mention to "Shuvuuia" the "desert bird" who unfortunately is not a pterosaur (doesn't fly)) (Yes we're including pterosaurs! Just using "dinosaur" as a conveient blanket term)

Tango - Aratasaurus / Pyroraptor

Fire raptor! Either works just fine and Tango as a skittery little raptor is perfect for a creature like him

Scar - Apatosaurus

"Deceptive Lizard" harkening back to Scar's scamming tendencies. Though I've always liked the idea of him being some larger gentler animal in any hybrid scenario and a long-neck fits the bill well. He can poke his nose into people's conversations easily to start marketing something useless to them and swishes his tail to ward off anyone who's about to stop him

Impulse - Nasutoceratops

Ren - Regaliceratops

Horns. COOL horns. I don't know what else you want from me ceratopses are just way too awesome. Nasutoceratops is a wicked cool dinosaur for having its horns point so forward much like a bull and I for one can jive with some Impulse bull symbolism. Bulls are often viewed as strong, sturdy and loyal, traits also assigned to Impulse a LOT of the time. But though he IS intensely loyal in many cases (+ Ceratopses are also known for how they defend their own!), and he's not very outward about the following traits, he can get quite petty and bitchy and hold grudges. Still, you don't think of that when you look at him and he seems to agree! Eg him feeling like he should be accepted into Cleo's alliance in 3rd life without actually proving himself when Cleo was rightfully hesitant, at which Impulse more or less rolled his eyes. And him proclaiming "betrayal!" when killed by Bdubs when their alliance was as firm as a rat's tail

(And I feel the need to point this out too just in case: "bulls are also known for their temper" yeah but they're not like that! Bulls like many animals become defensive when exposed to aggravating behavior or movement! Which you could work into Impulse's grudge holding and intense loyalty...? I don't know enough about him sorry but do with that what you will)

Regaliceratops! Regal!! Crown shaped frill!!! Need I say more?

Gem - Therizinosaurus

Theris are so bad bitch coated to me and I would love to have one as my wife I mean um I couldn't decide on a less generic specimen so Gem can just be a Theri! A herbivore - often associated with the belief that herbivores are gentle passive creatures, but far from it, especially with Gem! She bares her claws like it's no one's business

Martyn - Stygmoloch

A Pachy with a tough head and a tendency to bonk people - I think it fits Martyn's tendency to perpetuate drama haha. The Stygmoloch's name though more or less translates to "demon of the styx river", the river of the underworld representing loathing of death. To me this makes sense with all the watcher lore (that I have a hard time understanding but whatever!!) especially with how Martyn became in LL. The watchers themselves don't loathe death (??) of course. They're death games. But someone within the game trying to stay alive and win? Probably loathes the idea of themselves dying. I have no clue what Im saying

Pearl - Carnotaurus

Ok maybe a hot take not to make her into a pteradon or even a raptor with wing-like features but those just didn't fit that well in my opinion. Rather I wanted her to have some kind of horn motif in place of her wings as visual symbolism for her character. I'd like to imagine her having fine horns, to then have them damaged (one broken off) and simultaneously the other more grown out. Think of how domesticated goats for example have their horns trimmed. I think human hybrids with horns would do the same to keep them from becoming a bother but Pearl would neglect to after her heartbreak in DL. I was heavily considering the Diabloceratops for this, especially because of the name (Devil horned face - good ostracizing material) but Pearl strikes me a lot more as a carnivore and there are only two horned carnivores out there so... Carnotaurus it is haha. And even now I'm making her horns unrealistically big but.... We can suspend some belief

BigB - Oryctodromeus

"Digging Runner"! I've already talked plenty of why BigB is very rabbit behavior to me and my reasons for assigning this burrowing dinosaur to him are similar. Tldr he is fidgety and cautious yet clever and constantly buries himself underground

Lizzie - Anurognathidae

I don't even fucking know man it made me think of Lizzie and then I wasn't able to assign anything else to her. Lizzie often claims to be confused and if any dinosaur looks to be in a perpetual state of confusion then its this one. I know a lot of people like to portray Lizzie as a butterfly also so there you go, wings!!! And it's quite cat-like too for those who like to draw her as a cat

Mumbo - Leinkupal

I really struggled with Mumbo... So many different dinos fit him imo but I figured it should be at least something moderately large (so "Technosaurus" was out of the question lol). Then I rediscovered this dinosaur whose name translates to "vanishing family" and then I thought about LL and SL and how Mumbo went out quickly after the initial death/s and left a very felt absence in someone's alliance and then I became really emotional and forgot what I was doing

Bdubs - Psittacosaurus

"Knob Headed Lizard"

Joel as an Ankylosaur has been stuck in my head from day one of assigning dinosaurs to the Lifers and I'm frustrated that I can't truly explain why. You'd view an Ankylosaur as a slow and docile creature, even compared to other herbivores, but...

1. Maybe not so much nowadays, I don't know what non-dino nerds think, but I feel like ankylosaurs were largely believed to be HUGE back in the day, much like velociraptors, when in reality they're not that big. The Nodocephalosaurus is especially small even among other ankylosaurs. But, well, we all know what Joel loves to say about himself

2. Joel is or likes to make himself look well in control, just as ankylosaurs have little to worry about as far as predators go. Especially in earlier series where he was content basing mostly by himself. It's always when things get dire and he enters his red life that he becomes very impulsive and erratic like an ankylosaur flipped on its back

3. I know there's a distinction between Traffic Joel and Empires Joel and whatever other Joel but... Even in death games his more charitable traits shine through here and there. He really becomes a dangerous rascal for a large majority of the time and he's very good at it, he's not putting on a mask or anything, but I like to remember that underneath that tough spiky armor is gentleness and caring. His care towards Lizzie and Pearl and Etho etc etc

4. The image of Joel as a hell of a spiky creature is just really fun to me. Yet heavy and blunt ones! And someone once proposed the idea of him having a club tail but having chiselled it to be sharp to mirror him being a menace. (Added benefit also that it's lighter that way haha) To me he's always been an obvious heavy hitter rather than stealthy or particularly creative etc. Him as a carnivore just doesn't work as well for me

The name bares no fitting meaning but when I look at Bdubs I think of Psittaco. All other species close to it in looks are already ceratopsians and we have like... 3 of those already lol. Im sorry Bdubs you look so stupid

Cleo - Lythronax

There's so few predators in this roster lol oops, but Cleo deserves to be an apex one! The name translates to "Gore King" because you know, zombies... and you know, Cleo is very king so true. If any of the Lifers should be able to boast rows of razor sharp teeth to gore others it should be ZombieCleo

Scott - Theiophytalia

I've been really struggling with Scott but how about the dinosaur whose name translates to "Belonging to the garden of Gods". There's only one known specimen of this species and it's an Iguanadon looking dinosaur which I think a lot of people would regard as the most basic, possibly boring type of dinosaur (if it weren't for the Allosaurus which already takes the title of "basic straight white guy") but that further fits Scott imo. It's always been a strong point of appeal to me how MUCH there is to his character that so often goes under the radar or unexplored, and how he's very often portrayed as just some handsome looking guy as opposed to a hybrid etc. He's not at all extravagant yet has mastered his craft of bending fate in his favor, he so often has things perfectly under his control just as he wants them, etc... reflective of the name "Theiophytalia" even if you wouldn't think such a dinosaur to sport one of the most prolific names a dinosaur can have. Also garden something something flower husbans. Basically whatever Bree's take on Scott is lol. I don't wanna blab for 5 paragraphs about that blue mf here but. I hope this makes sense

Jimmy - Yinlong

I struggled with this mf the most because he's another very hashtag deep character. I felt really bad to remove his bird motifs completely because the canary is so essential to him, but a raptor nor a pteradon fit my image of him at all. I spent so much time looking into various species but it just aint it, but Yinlong was possibly quilled and we can still cover him in feathers, even if he has nothing close to wings haha... BUT ANYWAY. Yinlong is a small kind of pathetic looking dinosaur, and Jimmy definitely isn't small but he'd sure be made to feel that way. Yinlong translates to "Hidden Dragon" however, a rather thought-provoking name for such a dinosaur. Given his character, it sure does feel like there's a soul of a dragon laying dormant somewhere in him, buried by all the self deprecation and curse labels. Honorable mention to Tianyulong, a very similar dinosaur who was named after a museum, but "Tianyu" also translates to peace and content. Something that Jimmy can't yet but deserves to be

Etho - undefined raptor

Already made a loong post about raptor Etho haha which I assume yall have seen since the support towards that post is the only reason I'm even making this post

Skizz - Olorotitan

"Titanic Swan" close enough to an angel right. I feel the whole angel thing is a bit overdone when Skizz can become a malicious little creature every now and then, but swans much like angels do get viewed as beautiful and taken as symbolism of love. Much like Skizz is largely viewed as an angel and often as someone who can do no wrong. But mostly I wanted Skizz to be a hadrosaur/duck-billed dinosaur, because those are dinosaurs known for their speculated vocalizations. And what is Skizz good at? Talking and voicing his love and appreciation? Yeah? Yeah... I'm so sorry Skizz btw this hybrid idea does not work out

Again, a lot of these don't work so well as hybrids... Some like the long-neck ones I cant imagine to have more than a spiky spine back and a tail, but! These picks aren't based on hybrid potential but rather what I think genuinely fits. I did really work on this all day looking through a bunch of dinosaurs and research haha, but I do love dinosaurs a lot... If you disagree with any hey thats cool! Enjoy some cute dragons for Lunar New Year! 🐉🎆 (this was mostly an excuse to draw the idea I had for Lao Mang Lone soup Omi)

And uh…enjoy an angsty story to go with the drawing??? I’m sorry

“What have you done?”

“Come now, what’s with that face?” Hannibal laughed. In his disgusting tendril a child-sized lizard squirmed and thrashed, trying to claw the vine from where it was wrapped tightly around the creature's neck. Chase couldn’t take his eyes off the scene, his own skin rippling in response. “And here I thought I was doing you a favor! Wuya told me all about that convoluted little plan of yours to get this bean sprout on the Heylin side but, well, take it from someone with experience in this kind of thing. Lao Mang Lone really is the easiest way to go.”

“You- I-“ Chase stuttered, for once not knowing what to say. What to do. The tiny lizard snarled, its claws scraping uselessly against the vine, its tail thrashing in agitation. The frills around its head flaring in anger. The thin skin there was torn and bleeding from where the child had clawed himself. Where Omi had clawed himself.

“What’s the matter? Cat got your tongue.” Hannibal mocked, his disgusting laugh echoing around Chase’s atrium. “Or, I guess in this case, lizard? Kid’s pretty cute isn’t he?” He added, lifting Omi fully off the ground, his snarls getting cut off as he choked and only thrashed more. Something that was bound to only hurt the child if not break his neck. Chase made an aborted movement forward to help but hesitated as he saw the tendril tighten threateningly. “Vicious to boot. Should have seen the way he tore through that little temple of his when he ate the soup. Almost as impressive as you! For such a small size, the kid really packs a punch!”

How had Hannibal managed to do this? What had he done to trick Omi into drinking the Lao Mang Lone soup? Had he even known what he was doing? Had he agreed to this? Chase couldn’t imagine a world where Omi drank the soup willingly -a memory flashed into his mind. a glass and iron cage. The scent of Lao Mang Lone in the air. Someone had to drink it if they wanted to escape- No. No. Omi wouldn’t have. Not here. Not now. Not like this.

“This is some sick joke.” Chase snarled, managing to wipe the shocked and distraught surprise from his face. His gaze turned to Hannibal’s disgustingly smug one, Chase finally able to pull his eyes away from the little dragon. “This isn’t real.” It couldn’t be real. This was something else. Hannibal had the Moby Morpher. It had to be a trick. “I don’t know what you are trying to pull-“

“Well now!” Hannibal cut him off, bringing his other tendril to his chest in a fake act of offense. “Is that any way to respond to a gift?! If you don’t want him, well, I could always use another pet.”

Chase felt panic shoot through him at those words, remembering his own time under Hannibal. Being trapped in this early, feral, state of the Lao Mang Lone. Being at the mercy of this disgusting bean. A single claw out of place leading to punishments thousands of times worse than the offense.

Chase clenched his jaw. Trick or not, he couldn’t leave Omi to that fate. Chase knew he had already shown his hand in this. Had shown it ages ago to Wuya when he had been too stupidly secure in the idea that he had managed to lock Hannibal away for good. And now, here he was, back again and having worked Chase into a corner with only one way forward.

“A gift implies he is being given to me for free,” Chase acknowledged, his hand’s fisted tight at his sides, trembling with held-back rage. “But I know you, Hannibal. What is the price of this so-called gift.”

He watched as Hannibal’s decrepit smile grew, showing off his broken and rotting teeth. “Well, now that you mention it, I suppose there are a few things I want…”

[some bonus additional context for the art: I imagine this image is a few months after Omi was transformed and in that time Chase ‘visited’ the temple to make sure that what Hannibal told him was true (it was) and stole the reversing mirror from Spicer to make sure Omi wasn’t just transformed via the Moby Morpher and had something done to his mind (the reversing mirror changed nothing) and then proceeded to check everything to make sure that there was no other possible explanation for this and finally, after he could no longer deny that Omi had truly taken the Lao Mang Lone Soup, he gave Omi more of it to help him start to work towards regaining himself and the above is the outcome. A moment of clarity from his little one. Omi’s still not all there. still has no idea who he is or what he is, but for a second he is no longer feral or hungry and Chase gets this small moment before it eventually slips away.]

Daily Dragon #56 - Fygar

Another cute, arcade dragon! Fygar was always one I was gonna do eventually, and I didn't have a huge oomph to draw tonight so I figured this was a perfect opportunity for a simple one! Tried to do a new take on it inspired by a few different designs :)

i know ive been posting these all so late into the evening, apologies, im all over the place lately lmao also, am i nuts or didn't there used to be grey fygar? i couldn't find ANY sprites of them so I guess I made it up. Oh well

Daily Dragon #57 - Percipitar

A mollusc-like dragon that swims through rivers and ponds, slurping up water to bulk up its pouches, then turns that water into clouds for fighting and hunting! Their shell is very hard, but the yellow flesh is VERY soft and gooey.

Since the last few were all redraws / fanart, I really wanted to make a brand new one today! Originally this was gonna be a poison mist spewing dragon, but I couldn't decide on a color/effect for the poison. And I eventually thought just regular water and mist powers were a little more interesting because we've already had a few poisonous dragons or dragons that spew stuff that has effects on enemies. Note to self, stop making dragons that produce some kind of toxic or mist???

Just for fun and some background because I have it here, this is the unfinished version of the picture when I was making it poisonous instead. I changed it at the last possible moment lol

Daily Dragon #58 - Mega Charizard Z

"Its head splits into 3 to become a menacing Hydra. While its brain power is divided in this form, its fire power becomes multiplied!" Not sure what type I'd make it? Maybe Fire/Fairy or Fire/Electric or something idk

Also I already have ideas on how I would maybe tackle this design a little differently so, maybe we'll see Mega Charizard Z 2 in the future

Daily Dragon #59 - Feral Cave Dragon

My brother found some ANCIENT art of mine in an old book tonight, so of course I had to redraw all the characters on it!

This is, as I'm sure you can tell, an old bookmark! From back when I used to read... Horrifying times! My brother said he found it in a book I was reading around 2011 or so?

Daily Dragon #60 - Dragon Girl Green

This fun little dragon is February's most popular dragon as decided by vote!! That means she gets new art! Soaring through the sky and flying by some migrating birds! Seems like she's having a magical day~

My personal favorite from February? There were a LOT of dragons I actually really liked. But ultimately I'm just really smitten with Percipitar! Been a rough month! March is gonna be rough too but we will get through it! Thank you all so much for your continued support!

Daily Dragon #61 - Rawrnosaur

A large, feral dragon with some odd properties. It has chameleon-like eyes, salamander-like skin, gecko-like tail, and a long lizard-like tongue. They're often found in places with more humid climates and eat tons of food constantly!

This is yet another redraw of an INCREDIBLY old monster of mine! This one is even older than the Feral Cave Dragon (which I found out is from 2011-ish) as this would've probably been before I was even in Kindergarten. Crazy stuff!

The original was found while we were helping my grandma clean her house, which is cute. Some things never change, I've been a reptile fan for life! I'm actually SO happy with how this redesign came out. I might have to go through and color it in later!

Daily Dragon #62 - Mountain Dragon

This dragon lives high on mountain tops, where it makes its lair. It rarely comes down to ground level, only occasionally to find shiny things to add to its horde or when food on the mountain becomes scarce. As such, they're a bit rare.

Been having a stressful week, so I haven't been having a lot of original ideas for dragons. So this is another redraw. This dragon from 2023 was just called "random dragon" in my files. So there wasn't much to work with aha

OKAY MY ENOT LORE, DESIGN, AND RAMBLE TIME!

So if anyone knows and has spoken to me and seen any of my ocs, they'll know I LOVE making things wacky and out there if I have the ability to. If possible, I will have some wacky backstory too! For Enot's case, this is very much possible!

I'm basically just gonna ramble describe my own little thoughts and design choices for Enot with some of my art as reference!

If you want to know my own thoughts and design choices for another character, be sure to let me know! It'll take a little bit as I like to go all out with these as much as possible.

ANYWAYS ONTO DESCRIBING ENOT UNDER THE CUT BC THIS'LL BE LONG!

Design Choices

So this is my Enot design!

Yes I know it's very strange and wacky looking, but c'mon. I think the little chaos gremlin deserves to have a chaotic design, y'know, as a treat!

I decided to make their whole body fade, but to fix the issue of their limbs blending in too much, their arms and legs are different solid colors, which allow me to draw them easier!

I really wanted to keep the red in Enot's design, but I didn't want to overuse it, so I decided to make it an accent color and sprinkle red throughout the design. I think this makes it easier to look at Enot, and also draw more attention to their face, as that's the most interesting thing to look at! Enot's eyes are red spirals because honestly I think that would be fun. Enot's red whiskers are made to look like a curly mustache because they obviously have to twirl it like an evil supervillain. The last red design choice is seen with their lizard-like tail, which I'm just about to get to.

Enot has a bit of lizard biology in their DNA, specifically white lizards. This explains their strange frills on the back of their tail, their odd distinct head shape, and one of their abilities that I'll list in the later sections.

The last thing I wanted to mention was glitches! As much as I love glitches and stuff with characters (If you have a glitched Enot design I absolutely love it already, please be my friend), I decided to leave this out of the physical design of Enot because I have a cooler idea! Based on text said by Five Pebbles in game:

Five Pebbles obviously wouldn't say this, so I thought of something that I think would be funny. What if Enot was some kind of cryptid or eldritch horror kind of scenario? Whelp, I can say that my version of Enot is.

Enot causes the environment around them to distort and change sometimes because of a reason I'll get to in a different section of this post. Overall though, this explains the strange changes in the world, the weird Five Pebbles dialogue, and fits into the absurdity of Enot's character as a whole.

Personality

Enot is basically chaos incarnate, nobody knows where Enot came from except Enot themself. To sum it up, bro is basically a real time cryptid or scp. Overall they're chaotic, and very loud, but genuinely entertaining if you manage to get to know them.

Yes, manage. Bro is very scatterbrained and is always all over the place.

Other than that, Enot thinks of themselves as some kind of incredibly evil supervillain, but they're absolutely horrible at it. Not horrible in Enot's bad at their job, Enot's bad in terms of the fact that they just don't actually do supervillain things. The most evil thing they can think of is filling a room with their weird eggs, or causing some minor inconvenience as some silly joke.

This basically makes Enot one of those supervillains that is actually not even bad, just a silly guy pulling pranks because they have the power and capabilities of doing so.

Powers

"Enot has a bit of lizard biology in their DNA, specifically white lizards."

For Enot's white lizard biology, this gives Enot the ability to change colors like some kind of chameleon like the picture above. They cannot change shape, just color, which means that if they were to try to imitate another Slugcat, or another species, it would look off.

How to tell the difference between another Slugcat and Enot is obviously the body, but also some of the red on their body. The spirals in their eyes, the red whiskers, and the tail frills always stay red, no matter what the rest of Enot's colors may be. This makes it easy to tell that Enot is pulling a prank or messing with other Slugcats.

"Enot causes the environment around them to distort and change sometimes because of a reason I'll get to in a different section of this post."

Ah yes, the completely wacky idea I had stored for this moment. Enot is some kind of universe or dimension traveler, which explains the environmental distortion, but also the really weird ending of their campaign, the dating simulator.

No Slugcats were found before (minus Slugpups) in Enot's campaign, until the dating sim which just came out of the blue. The lizards changed personalities, somehow all the Slugcats are alive at the same time, moon is now alive yet she was powered off in the campaign previously, and so much more about the dating sim can make me believe this weird belief.

Enot can just go to different dimensions just because they think it's funny and likes to mess with others by doing that. I don't make the rules, Enot does.

Egg

Yes the egg gets its own section.

Enot can lay eggs because I think that would just add to the absurdity of their character. I don't actually know how they would do it , so maybe they just throw up an egg like an scp scenario, similar to a hairball. (Also to keep up the weird factor about them)

REGARDLESS.

These eggs are an active threat when thrown, so I think it's at least worth mentioning. I don't know how to describe the fact that Enot's eggs are singularity bombs, so I'm gonna try to explain how it could work by how I've been making the rest of this post with my weird logic.

My best guess as to why Enots eggs are the way they are is because of the fact that Enot is a weird universe traveling cryptid or something similar to that, so all eggs that Enot creates are pretty unstable, and when thrown, this disrupts the balance, similar to a fire egg.

Relationship Descriptions

OKAY SO THE FINAL SECTION. Wow this has been quite the wacky post. I'm just gonna explain why my relationships for Enot are the way they are. A lot of these are gonna be grouped together.

All of them have pranks pulled on them because it's Enot. Why wouldn't Enot do so?

Iterators

All of them are neutral except for Five Pebbles because Enot never really had a wacky connection with any of them, except for Pebbles and Moon. Enot just really likes Five Pebbles' strange personality. Too bad it's one sided though.

Downpour Slugcats + Hunter

Enot is relatively friendly towards all of them, having crushes on the others (except for hunter). Think of it like having a crush on an actor from a tv show or a movie. Enot doesn't have that strong of a crush, but it's still there.

Enot does have a small bit of respect for Artificer as they know what Artificer went through. This was unfortunately found out from a prank they made, but once they found out about the whole incident, they backed off and apologized.

Enot does have a huge amount of respect for Gourmand though, as it has to do with when they first met. When Enot and Gourmand met, Enot was looking for a place to call home, so Gourmand decided to take Enot under their wing and accept them into their colony. Enot has a lot to thank Gourmand for, as they wouldn't have met anyone of the Slugcat crew, and wouldn't have a home.

Also sometimes Enot and Hunter hunt together, which does give bonus points for the friendly factor.

Monk, Survivor, and Their Family

Enot is generally friendly towards all of them, but especially has respect for Monk and Survivors family. (This is my own little made up campaign for them that's part of my own little story for the Slugcats, so keep that in mind.) Enot thinks that the whole family going in for Monk and Survivor, despite the little hope left is very admirable, and generally finds it heartwarming that they all could reunite again.

Nightcat

Nightcat at the very least is very close to Enot, as they both have very strange origins, and both are oddballs out of the Slugcat colony. At the very most though, Enot and Nightcat would be together as they both are pranksters by heart, and can fight the uncaring world off together like partners in crime.

So with Palworld being the hot, new thing, I got to see some of what it had to offer, but mostly the discourse and the like following it. Ignoring accusations against the company, yes, they were parodying Pokèmon, and that especially includes the design.

This leads into my main point of this post. Most of the Pals are perfectly servicable designs. They are usually similar to Pokèmon designs, but they at least put a bit of a spin on them, or at the very least they look interesting. However, one rather popular one right now actually upsets me with its design. I don't like Lovander's design at all.

Now, I'd like to show a back image to accompany it and help show my critiques, but this is the single image I can find of it at all.

In terms of furbait, it succeeds. I conceed the point that they made it a very furry design. But the problem I have is that it fails at being a lizard design; I would not call this scalie or scale-bait.

So Lovander appears to be a take on Salazzle, the poison/fire scale-bait Pokèmon. In particular, it appears to resemble its shiny. it might also be inspired by shiny Lopunny, what with the hair and arm pieces.

They've nearly the same palette, while also being sexy lizards. As an aside, the reason why Salazzle is Like That may be inspired by mo`o, lizards of Hawaiian myth would would eat men at night.

Anyways, Salazzle is a design I can appreciate as it at least looks like a lizard; it has a long tail, slim body, claws, you get the point. When you see it, you think, "wow, that's a sexy lizard", and "wow, that's in a kid's game." On the contrary, Lovander has a design that doesn't immediately scream reptile. When I first saw it, my thoughts were, "Lopunny II", and "this is gonna happen in every Pokèmon-like game, huh".

It took a bit of close inspection to make the connection to Salazzle, and an even longer time to learn that it is a reptile, not a mammal.

So first and foremost, a big reason why this didn't click as a lizard Pal, is the biology of it.

Look at these salamanders. lizards are usually slim, because they scuttle and also because they hide in small spaces. Salazzle is indeed slender, which helps it look right. Lizards also don't have protruding ears, fur, or mammory glands. Yet again, neither does Salazzle.

With Lovander, they go for a more typically attractive humanoid design. They gave it breasts, hips, and what appears to be hair. Together, these design features make it less and less similar to actual, ya know, salamanders. To be clear, I'm not saying that the Video Game Animal Girl has to be a biological mirror of its source material, but it helps a design look nice if it at least tries to be similar. Despite the game saying its a reptile, nothing in its design would imply that. I can at least forgive the hair though, as it may have been designed to be like the Frilled Lizard. In that case, yeah, that is a rather cool trait.

They also got rid of its tail, which does not help its case.

Now, its design is not the only reason I dislike Lovander. It's name doesn't make sense. it took me 22 days, (days since Palworld was released, as of writing) to realize it was supposed to be a combination of the words "love" and "salamander." When you say it, it sounds far more similar to "love" and "lavender". One of the points I was going to make if I'dn't procrastinate on writing this post, was the lack of lavender in its colour palette. Lavender is a light purple, but Lovander has a dark and bold purple instead. It would have been That Easy to make it a 3-in-1 name with a minor colour change, but that is not the case.

Overall, I say this not as a jab at Palworld or anything, I just like complaining. Palworld is a game that sure does exist. I do not care for or against it. This one design has been peeving me, and I just wanted to say something about it.

Autistic. Special interest in, you guessed it, TCG. They also love studying old unsolved cases that the Akademiya has on file, and then trying to solve them.

I feel like he'd love FNAF if he were real.

They constantly call Collei "Collei Flower." They started doing it at Windblume and haven't stopped since then.

Speaking of Collei, she's one of the few people that he lets borrow his TCG cards. He taught her how to play, built her a deck, he even gave her some of his duplicates so she'd have a better chance at winning. He also watches over every time she plays. It's like a dad at his son's football game.

Hates the rainforest. They always get eaten up by mosquitos :(

He uses Tighnari's tail and ears as fidgets sometimes. They'll just be sitting on the couch reading or something and Cyno will just start messing with his ears or combing his fingers through his tail.

Tighnari's in game color palette hurts me so I darkened everything a bit.

He's definitely autistic, but we already knew that. His special interests are botany and mycology.

They also have an auditory processing disorder. Their ears let them hear a lot, so it's hard for them to focus on one thing at a time. They're also very sensitive to sound; Alhaitham lent them some of his noise cancelling headphones [adjusted by Kaveh to fit Tighnari's head (and style) of course] to help.

Kit has a huge lighting scar on kits back. Kit's also scared of storms, but kit tries to pretend that kits not. Cyno can tell something's up, though.

Speaking of being scared of storms, Tighnari is scared of electro in general. Stem gets very nervous when stem sees Cyno's vision activate, but stem pretends stem doesn't.

He's a vegan. He absolutely hates the meat industry and how it treats animals. He grows all of his food by himself in Ghandarva Ville. Collei's asked him if he'd like her to become vegan, too, but he always says "You're still growing, you need all the nutrients you can get," and tells her about all the supplements he needs to take.

They're all random lizards that Tighnari gave her to help her feel more comfy being alone. She likes them because "they have scales like me!"

In addition to all of these lizards, they also have a service dog. His name is Jabir, and he's an amstaff terrier. He warns her when her Eleazar is about to flare up and gets help.

After Eleazar disappeared, Jabir became Collei's emotional support dog.

Collei has scale-shaped scars on his body from having Eleazar for so long. He also often uses elbow crutches and a wheelchair, since Eleazar had him in bed so often that he's struck with bouts of weakness.

She's Cyno's older sister. She taught him how to use a polearm when they were younger. She's super proud of him now! Supportive sister :D

She doesn't really like makeup or jewelry, but Dehya does. She lets Dehya give her fun little accessories and lets her do her makeup.

Candace is buff. I don't care. She's built.

She hates the cold with a passion.

She does pottery as a hobby! Her vision helps her keep the clay wet when it needs to be, and it gives her something to do with her hands when she's not busy. She can't focus when she's not doing something physical (she just like me fr)

She gifts small pottery to Collei! She used to make them as hard for her to hold her medication, but Collei doesn't really need it anymore so she just gives her cute ones. She made a clay vase shaped like Baron Bunny once.

Very light sleeper. She's always on alert to protect Aaru Village. She also has Insomnia.

In both scenarios, Alhaitham knows sign.

Xe wears braces on xyr arms to help with arthritis. Xe writes constantly, so xyr arms are under a lot of stress 24/7.

He LOVES grammar and language. Can and will go on rants to Kaveh about interjections and participles and prepositions. He loves editing essays. He loves fixing them. So. Much.

Sorry that was me projecting. Anyways.

That gem in its chest glows to determine how drained its social battery is. If the gem isn't glowing, it does NOT wanna be there.

Xe has pica and dermatillomania. Kaveh makes xem little toys to pick at so xe doesn't pick at xyr skin. Kaveh also constantly bandages xyr hands so xe doesn't pick at xyr fingernails and hangnails.

He has a pet fish in his office at the Akademiya. It's a tiger barb named Cod-veh. Cyno named it because Alhaitham couldn't think of a name. Kaveh doesn't know that's its name. Don't tell him.

It has tons of succulents. It's a literal god at caring for them. It's actually bizarre.

I named my wanderer Kunimitsu. It has the opposite meaning of Kunikuzushi, and I can still call him Kuni :3

And I gave him a Goetian name, too. Beleth. I chose Beleth because he looks like a cat and plays music (according to Wikipedia idk). This way it ties into Scarameow and his signature weapon.

Best friends with Nilou!! She's teaching them how to dance (secretly ofc). Nahida convinced them to do it, said it would be like physical therapy. Kuni didn't like her at first, but has since grown attached to her and gets sad when they have to miss classes.

Since aer ball-jointed, ae often have aer joints lock up. When this happens, ae uses aer vision to move around. It's not easy, but ae manage. This is why Nahida told aer that Nilou's dance classes would be physical therapy, to stop aer joints from locking up. If Kuni was a human, it'd be arthritis. Ae wears braces on aer arms.

Kuni has a crack in enis face from where eni fell from the Shouki no Kami.

I uncovered rems beauty mark. Honestly just because I think it's pretty. But for an actual reason rem would stop hiding it is...honestly, since Ei doesn't remember rem. Plus, Nahida helped rem become more confident in remself and rems own skin.

He sees Collei as a little sister. He remembers seeing her around Dottore's lab when she was a kid, so seeing her in Sumeru made him weirdly happy. He'd die for her fr.

They visit Xiao occasionally and spar. Kuni found out that he was Morax's kid and was like !!! He like me fr !!!

Feeds the stray cats around Sumeru city. It's gotten to the point that they see him and all come running hoping for snacks and affection.

some sketches of baby eel lizards. I head canon that eel lizards like to lay there eggs in semi shallow water in more enclosed areas near other eel lizard nests. they do it for a number of reasons, not only because it might mean the nest gets missed in the case of a predator attack. it's also because the babies are incredibly dependent on the adults to do just about anything. their respiratory systems are still developing even after hatching and they need to be exposed to both the deep underwater and the open air on the surface in order to be able to properly breathe as adults. however they are both incredibly weak and tire easily so they will grab onto an adults tail frills (hangy offy bits idk) and the adult will ferry them around and bring them food. their unique features like frills and scales grow in as they develop.

to adult eel lizards there isn't much of a concept of their own children, any baby eel lizard even if it is of no relation, is viewed the same as one of their own babies. they simply lay the eggs and the parental instincts kick in, they patrol the area for threats or babies in need and respond accordingly when they find any.

They regularly sun bathe on top of rocks or stable parts of buildings with their babies.

Naaaaaaaff, that cave creature Sun one shot was so sweet aaaaaah!!

I love how you described him! He's so cool and has some cute mannerisms! Though understandably the poor reader was more preocupied with his size and the very sharp grin kjhgdfh

But he was prepared! It makes me think that he definitely must have had a couple encounters with humans already, (probably all injured climbers and spelunkers), since he knows enough about treating a human's arm, and knows enough language to communicate basic stuff. That or he has observed enough from a distance to pick up on some things.

Oh also! I know that for axolotls the stalks and the frilly structures are more like gills, but I wonder if in this case, because Sun appears very adept at climbing and making his way through a lightless cave, in addition to his eyes, the stalks on his head could maybe serve as feelers too in the same way whiskers would? (Also when he was waving his head it just put the cutest image in my head with the frills swaying along X3)

Also! The little nuzzle towards the end melted me like ice cream under direct sunlight khgfkjhd

He's just a funky aquatic lizard guy! Y/N just had to calm down and figure that out, which, understandably, is hard while injured and blinded by a pitch-black cave with a creature.

He's observed humans from a distance, mostly, but he's never directly interacted with anyone except for Y/N! He noticed the broken collarbone when he was carrying Y/N deeper into the cave and figure it would be painful to move that arm.

Yes, that's right! For Sun, his axolotl-inspired stalks are gills but I do really love the idea of them being feelers as well so I might incoperate that aljsdflasdf When Y/N grabbed his head stalks, it hurt a lot, but he's a tough salamander dude so he's okay ♥

AHHHH I'm really happy you like that little movement, I had a lot of fun writing this little quirks and body language ♥

Hehehe, good! Also happy to melt with creature nuzzles!!! Sun (and Moon) use nuzzles as a form of affection/comfort and view facial touching as very intimate.

YOO trailer dropped! What do you think of those legends?

(This is a special edition review for the Scarlet and Violet trailer! After this, requests will go back to the usual oldest-first order.)

You know, I'll be honest, I didn't think I'd like these guys much based on what our leakers said. Dragon (and psychic) weren't types I wanted to see more legendaries of, and I couldn't imagine the vehicle aspect in any way that didn't look either ridiculous or too inorganic. Plus I'm just not usually big on legendary designs in general.

So I was pleasantly surprised to find that I actually really, really like these guys. I'll have to find out more about both of them and let them sit with me for a while, but right now I'd say they're in my top 5 or so for legendary designs.

First, conceptually, I really like how both represent the past vs future (or rather, tradition vs innovation, I would wager) theme from the games. Like, you could never guess that Palkia and Dialga are space and time themed from their appearances, but here you can tell at a glance what they're going for, and that's always a good thing in my book.

And secondly, the way the motorcycle idea is integrated into both designs is super slick. The wheels on the chests actually look very organic, similar to how lizards tend to have neck frills and other protrusions to scare off predators. The handles being frills and horns is perfect, and even the seat is integrated in a way that you wouldn't notice it immediately. Also, the curved body shape in general makes them look very distinct visually.

I'd also like to note how clever the idea of ridable legendaries might be, depending on how Gamefreak handles it. One problem legendaries have always has is that you don't get them until basically postgame, and they're so OP when you get them that you have no reason to use or bond with them. If you can ride on these guys somewhat early on but can't catch them until later, it would be the perfect way to let players grow attached without giving them an uber-powerful Pokemon early on.

My only note in this regard is that I've heard the idea of vehicle form(s) tossed around, and frankly, am I the only one who doesn't want that? They already look like motorcycles, and can be ridden on as-is (assuming they can run on all fours in Koraidon's case). Making them Transformers overcomplicates things and simply doesn't feel needed.

Between the two, Miraidon's probably the better designed, but Koraidon's probably my personal fav (mostly because I like the organic look more). Those huge feathers that serve as handlebars look really cool and compliment the flow of the design nicely, it's cool to see a dragon with feathers in general, and the design is pretty coherent as a whole.

Like a lot of legendaries, it's pretty busy visually. Thankfully, the repeated elements (like the feathers and the tire elements) make it read as a coherent whole despite this, which is also helped by the clear theme and unique design.

However, with that said, there are still a few details I think should've been scrapped:

That random white spot on the face

The white diamonds on the body. I get that they're meant to look race-like but it's a bit much

The black pads on the hands

The blue feathers coming off the elbows

That's really it though; the rest of it looks pretty amazing.

Miraidon has the better design as a whole, mostly because it's got less details on it. In fact, the only thing that I think should've been simplified is the cluster of lines on the lower underbelly; the rest of it looks solid.

I really like the chest again here, this time going for more of a futuristic one-wheeled motorcycle instead of the traditional Harley. The plasma-like insides both work to make it look organic and inorganic at the same time, as do the sweet pixelated eyes.

I also like the built-in functionality on display, namely how the legs can unfold to form rockets/levitation devices. Both futuristic but also shows how much thought went into everything.

Overall, I'm pleasantly surprised with both of these two, and excited to see what the story behind them is.

📢His Name is Italian for Alarm

📢Allarme is a Special Case, he is not just mixed with a frog, but he is mixed with a frilled lizard, a leech and any animal that has Echolocation, making him shorter than the others.

📢As his name implies, Allarme can produce a loud sound or a sonic scream to alert others in danger and/or deafening enemies in process, which afterwards he ran off to hide.

📢He can be easily startled when it comes to strangers and/or new things. So, when that happens, he prepares to scream by posing like a puffing up cat, raising his frills, slitting his eyes, slowly revealing his mouth while his neck pouch expands with air which makes it glow, and his ears raising. But to any trusted people, he gets to them and get on their backside or any part of their body to lay down.

📢His fingers and toes can sense any vibration/sound wave to alert him in the dark, he is mostly paired up with Nottruno when in a dark area.

📢He makes baby crocodile sounds when he is startled, and he can understand Nottruno's sounds.

🚨Nottruno is a mix of Notte (Italian for Night) and Bruno

🚨He is a mix of a frog, an octopus, and an Anglerfish.

🚨He acts like a security guard in the dark/night, with his night vision from his antenna (Which holds a regular eye)

🚨Two of his eyes on his face are blind, which he relies not just his night vision, but also sound and his touch.

🚨He can pick up any sudden sound from any sudden movement with his long ears (which perks when heard something)

🚨Not only his long fingers and normal palms can act like touching sensory to detect anything/anyone, but his long arms can bind anyone like a bear trap to make sure they do not escape.

🚨He has the habit of sneaking up behind, especially when he spotted the source of the sound through the darkness.

🚨He is mostly paired up with Allarme, making him the best security system for Nottruno, and he can communicate with Allarme by making unhumanly sounds (the clicking sounds for an example means to tell Allarme to come over to his spot).

Ron Kamonohashi: Deranged Detective Episode 5 Review - Kawasemi Needs A Hand

A new case and a new character! How will Toto and Ron deal with Officer Kawasemi, who is the most skilled detective in the department and Amamiya’s rival? Who will solve this case of the Hand Collector? Also, to my surprise, I found my new favorite character! To be quite honest, this case was pretty weak.

Why I think this was a rather weak case is because the culprit was already obvious, but the motive was rather meh. Like, I already figured out that Yamane tampered with the corpse as he recognized his tattoo which was very tiny and hard to see with the naked eye. His motive for chopping off the killer’s hand was because he didn’t want to stain Kawasemi’s perfect record. It felt kind of weird as a motive, but at the same time, it is a bit understandable given how much of a perfectionist Kawasemi is.

Omito Kawasemi is quite the interesting character. He’s a perfectionist from head to toe. His main quirk is that he wields a pair of tweezers that he uses almost like a weapon of sorts. He goes toe to toe with Amamiya and her fountain pen. I feel like he has some sort of OCD. Regardless, he’s quite the ideal detective, but I do feel bad that his debut episode had to be a case with weak writing. However, I’m glad that he acknowledges Toto at the end after ignoring his very presence at the beginning. Also, I’m glad that Kawasemi isn’t shown to be a complete fool as he figured out that Ron was the one who figured out everything, but that was still something that made him acknowledge Toto.

Ron was hilarious in this episode. He shows up to the crime scene disguised as a hand puppeteer with a frilled lizard puppet on his right hand and a platypus on his left. He’s doing his usual eccentricities by mainly using the platypus puppet to make it do smiles. The platypus puppet is my new favorite character and it’s only a doll! I think the way Ron used a very squeaky voice to voice the platypus was hilarious. I’m sure Azakami is having a fun time going all out for Ron. But yeah, Ron mainly did most of the solving like usual, but this time, he did all of the work because every one else just standing there and going “DUHHHH”. Also, since there wasn’t a serious and evil culprit for this episode, Ron had no need to use his eyes.

I feel bad for Toto, honestly. He got sent to work with Kawasemi for this case because Amamiya finds him disposable compared to her other underlings. When he first met Kawasemi, the officer insults him by saying he has no talent for being a detective and spent a fourth of the episode not acknowledging his existence. And worst of all, he didn’t even do anything in this episode. All he did was explain stuff, whether it be saying Ron’s deductions or giving Ron a rundown of the case. This is why this case isn’t as great as the Hot Springs case. Alas, not all cases can be good. At least, Toto finally gets acknowledged by Kawasemi in the end. Kawasemi even notes that Ron and Toto need each other to shine, like how he and Yamane did.

Spitz is now a part of the RonToto team as he’s the one who goes around and tracks down stuff that is vital for the case, like how he did in this episode. He snuck into the Hand Collector’s room and snoops around it to find the hands. I really like this, honestly. I know that he’s pretty much going against BLUE’s agenda, but he’s doing it for a good cause too. I think Spitz is a needed presence because he’s practically the best tracker from BLUE.

Overall, out of the cases so far, this one was the weakest execution-wise. I just hope the rest of the cases going forth won’t be as bad as this one. If I were to rank the cases from the first episode to this one, I’d say the piggy bank one would be the best one so far followed by the first case and then the Hot Springs case. This case is dead last so far. What are your thoughts about this case and the episode?

It's the year of the dragon, so I wanna ask, what do you think Omi would look like as a dragon if he drunk Lao Mang Lone?

Oddly enough I have a piece of art with this exact theme I am working on for Lunar New Year 🤣. But I imagine Omi to look like this little guy:

Just this tinny little lizard that frills up to make itself look bigger.

The reasoning is that think the form Lao Mang Lone gives a person is based a lot on both reasoning for drinking the soup and also the emotions around drinking it. In Omi’s case he was scared and frightened and confused and so his transformation was into something bright with a big warning frill all to go “stay away!! I’m big and scary!!!”

Those insecurities of not being good enough following him into this form too…

Yeah, that makes more sense. I’m very hesitant to look up words used in this comic, especially if there’s a chance the comic made them up, so I didn’t want to dig any deeper!

Trolls only manifest their eyebrows when enraged. It’s like those lizards with frills.

Bit of discussion here about why Dream John had such trouble waking up. It’s true - reading back on Jade’s conversations, she never explicitly stated that realizing your destiny as a Player was a prerequisite for waking.

I never thought about how Dream John’s ‘refusal’ to wake up was him being obstinate again.

He also obstinately refused to acknowledge his wall scrawlings at first, which was a phenomenon which stemmed from his dream self. There might be something to this.

Clearly I just need to read farther in Homestuck, until I get to the DJ reveal in Act 7 :D

That psycheout post originally was the scheduling update that it pretended to be, but I changed my mind mid-post. I psyched myself!

I love how this implies the trolls are

A: Wearing ubergear underneath their zodiac shirts, and B: Covering that ubergear with their default outfits from before the game

Oh dang, either of those would have been cool. I wouldn’t have made the former, though, and I couldn’t wait long enough for the latter!

Hahaha, that’s amazing, it’s such a clusterfuck in the best way possible. Homestuck has a lot of copyrighted stuff in it - if it ever went mainstream, it would have to purge so many pages.

I played Skyrim before, but it was a long time ago, and I never actually did the story, I just fucked around in the College of Winterhold until I got bored.

Yup, we covered an absolute ton in the last Act. Partially this was because it’s the longest Act of the comic so far, but it also seemed to have a lot more content per page, too.

In earlier Acts, a single post of the liveblog could cover ten pages, easily, but these days, we often get pages that take multiple posts to digest!
