This is a piece about chronic fatigue although the original idea i had for it drifted a bit as soon as I started coloring the linear #(i really enjoy shading and lighting things and got a bit carried away here but i stand by my choice because this is my favorite thing #that i've ever drawn) #anyways. i often feel especially lately with school being back in season that my bones are leaden with this sort of. weariness. theyre heav #it weighs on our mental health and energy a lot and although there's a couple of reasons we have been given for it #that doesn't remove the fact that this is still a thing that affects us in a very real way day to day although we are good at masking it. #often i come home to find that i do not have the physical mental or creative energy to work on things i really want to #especially project: nexus which i feel extra bad about even though i can't help it because i just started it so recently #it is a mild to moderate struggle to make it day to day and i just. wanted to represent this somehow #my original concept for this was a skeleton with some black goop gunk whatever leaking from its joints #but as i started adding the cracks and coloring them gold (a personal touch; kintsugi is a concept that is very dear to us) #i realized that the focus here was less on the condition itself and more on the body that it afflicts. #so i put it into a spotlight. #ironic i know since very little people acknowledge this irl or even know it exists at all but i added rim lighting. I added color gradients #I colored the lineart and made it all fancy and even added a flare for the head to get the point across that even at its core; disability i #a performance. this is not implying that disabilities are fake in fact this is the opposite of that. i wanted to show that with disabilitie #especially i think in my personal opinion the invisible ones #we are all masking at least a little bit during the vast majority of the day. humans are social creatures and it is only when we are alone #or with someone we deeply trust where we allow ourselves to be who we truly are without fear and even then that can be rare #so i wanted to show this bit of the soul in as broad a limelight as i could. idk this is a really abstract piece and i dont know if anyone #will even get it but it matters to me at least. and even though we've been largely bedridden for the past week i think that's okay #we will get it figured out. all of us. okay? okay. i love you. i fucking love you. we are going to fucking make it #(also the xes over the eyes are because i thought they looked cool they have no deeper meaning at least i think they dont #actually i think they do but i cant put it into words idk. nimona thoughts! still my top movie of the year so far!!

been thinking about how to frame my thoughts on this gem, and I ultimately arrived at a bit of a pretentious jumping-off point. but honestly, my favorite stories are always the ones that end up demoting the whats, the hows, and sometimes even the whos in service of the whys. it's the hardest question and context to tackle in any story, and it's worth interrogating the most in order to find any true meaning, any connection at all to what's told.

nimona shows exactly why walling yourself away from the "others" isn't good enough. it shows why you have to do the work and see them.

not just that it is dogmatically "the right thing to do". not just depicting what certain systemic injustices are, how they are deployed, and who they are targeted at. but the why. that simplest, purest shape of questioning an injustice dating back to your gentlest time as a child, when you were vulnerable, naive, and truly curious in the best possible faith. the question you would always ask was why.

you are picking up a sword to threaten the unknown. you've been told the whos and whats. you parse it thus. but you don't know the why. you are watching this happen on TV, contextualized, simplified, dramatized. you are connecting the dots. understanding the why.

nimona painstakingly drills down on that why. arduously, achingly digging past the institutions of fear fed by cycles of indoctrination and right down to the core of it. packaged in a simple-to-parse fantasy world built with deft, elegant metaphors and archetypes that immediately fall into place and make sense to a person of any age.

it is animation as a medium and fantasy as a genre both working in concert. a fun and colorful romp that ends on a gentle embrace of reassurance that tells children - both literal and the ones buried deep inside adults - that their first question to the world was always the correct one. because it was the kindest.

I knew what her goal would be the moment she headed for the town squar #even before the obvious visual connections. the film carries you alongside her internal state so well that it's almost a magic trick #but really it's just good a-b-c-s of dramatization. not a second is wasted on tertiary noise that's not serving the central metaphor #and you know kids are hyper-attuned to that. they lack the language to conceptualize effective storytelling #but storytelling isn't about peering behind the curtain. it's about receiving whatever is the result of it #and I know deep in my bones that this movie was a warm balm on the hearts of many little ones and that makes me so happy #I'm a 30 year-old adult and it damn near made me weep. anyway! not to promote netflix NOW of all times #but man what a good ass story. you can keep your barbied heimers

I'm actually so excited that you asked number 6 for M.cQueen, it hadn't even crossed my mind at first, and technically isn't zoo or aquarium, moreso museum, but I think that still qualifies- but! L.ightning actually loovesss dinosaurs! I don't know if you've ever heard of C.ars On The Road, it's like this little series that came out in 2023, each episode is about 5 minutes long(they say like 7 minutes but it's just 2+ minutes of credits, no extra credit scenes except for a 5 second one in one episode) and L.ightning and M.ater, to make a long story short, go on a roadtrip together and they go on stops along the way and the first stop they go to is like a dinosaur museum!

And L.ightning like full swing goes into hyperfixation mode and just babbles about dinosaurs and I love it. He says he did "hours of intensive research" and it just cuts to him watching documentaries in M.ack's trailer and it makes me giggle. M.ack is so sweet, I can only imagine how much second-hand dino knowledge he has cause of L.ightning or overhearing his documentaries! There's also been some jokes that what if the main reason L.ightning wanted to be D.inoco's team in the first movie is just cause he likes dinosaurs and I love it.

But basically to make a long story short! L.ightning has a massive hyperfixation on dinosaur stuff and would thrive in a dinosaur related musuem. Though, I'd imagine he'd be bored in an aquarium or zoo until he realized that he could make connections here, and he'd go around to all the bird-type species or sharks and talk about how they're related to dinosaurs or have dinosaur ancestors and such!

1) what does their alarm ringtone sound like

It took me some pondering at first who to answer this for and then an idea immediately hit me, and I'd figure I'd answer this for F.rancesco

Basically, to put it in a nutshell, F.1 is a bunch of international racers on international race courses, and whoever wins at the end of each race gets their national anthem played! And I'm giggling over the thought of F.rancesco setting his alarm that he wakes up to in the morning to ltaly's national anthem.

Ringtone wise though, he'd definitely set it to a specific song, or something someone would ask questions about so he could go on this entire spiel about how it relates to him or something he likes. I'd probably rub off on him at some point and he'd make his ringtone(or the ringtone specifically for when I call) S.mooth Operator by Sade.

5) how do they bookmark their book pages

I'll answer this one for F.inn, just cause I think he's the one that's mostly likely to read full books fairly frequently. He'd probably just have a simple bookmark. something small and fairly thin cause he likes taking care of his books and wouldn't want to bend any pages or mess up the spine of the book too badly, probably something like this:

Maybe not the particular design that's on it, but definitely just the rectangle with the little tassels on it. I wouldn't be surprised if he had a bookmark with the UK flag on it as a design, he's quite patriotic and I think it's adorable. Though due to my recent knitting escapades he'd 100% ask me to knit one like one of these:

Though this has also given me the brilliant enlightenment idea of F.inn having one of those book lights or book lamps that clamp onto the book and shines a light on it and you can kinda adjust it and l'1l be having brainrot over that for a bit. May or may not have cultivated a fic idea around it already.

#i read kingfisher first through their fantasy books (the clocktaur series is one of my favorite books ever written) #and ive read a LOT of their books now #so their writing style feels comforting almost #and i read a house with good bones a couple weeks ago and it was great #but this book was fucking terrifying #very very well written but i am going to have trouble sleeping in the coming weeks #some horror books are fun bc the fear is separate from you. like if i read a scifi horror book set in the year 4500 w flying cars etc #the fear is still there but it is separate from me #the idea that i could knock a hole into drywall and have such horrible terrible awful things happen is. god it makes me nauseous #if you've ever heard of the backrooms its a little bit like that. but things move in your vision #and they're in the 6th dimension or whatever so you can't see them but they can see you #fucking hell. what a terrifying book #i just finished it and am sitting alone in a dark room so maybe ill have different thoughts later #but it was so scary that i almost think i didn't enjoy it #like. if i read slower i might've had a panic attack lol #what a terrifying but phenomenal piece of writing. god i love t kingfisher SO MUCH

#we went over to türksan to get a panoramic xray of my teeth at the dentist (no elaboration) #then we went to my favorite good place again! third day in a row. they know us very well by now #i broke the bones of one of the chicken wings i ate while biting into it from the sheer amount of force i was putting on it. #i then got called ladylike once again by im assuming the owner. the people of turkey Love me #(<-has been called ladylike by three different nearly-strangers recently) #we then went to the ice cream place just across ^^ i got oreo ice cream and gum flavored ice cream #...gum..mastic gum? is it called mastic gum. thats what google says #oh whatever. its those unflavored ones #then we went to A101 (a grocery shop) but i waited outside because there were cats there #one was really sweet but there was a little kid (about 7 years old) that screamed at it and chased it. have not had homicidal thoughts in - #- a while but i did today #then we went home #was pretty nice! im very proud of having gotten called ladylike again only because that means its Working (me being nice) #🌙rambling #OH how dare i forget. on the minibus ride there we saw a god damned horse. and people were riding it with a carrier #i was very shocked. second time i've seen horses in this place

They said French curve, which I second, I also will add rotary cutter and cutting board.
