I think so many people are so deeply alienated from themselves that they have no clue how to exercise their free will and autonomy. For some, this alienation runs so deep that they are afraid of their own autonomy and humanity. It is completely understandable why one would have those feelings, but it can be worrisome.
I want to help others who feel this way, so here are small things I have done to exercise my free will:
Add "guilty pleasure" songs to playlists and actually listen to them (I have a ton of late 1990s-early 2000s music I listen to now proudly that I never listened to in the past out of shame)
Getting the décor item, bath set, bed spread, ect. in the patterns you like, even if it's "childish" (I got a dinosaur-themed wastebasket from the kids' décor section and I adore it)
Taking a new route to get to a place you go to often
Eat dessert first
Celebrate well, and often
Collect things that are "odd" or don't seem like an "acceptable" thing to collect (somebody on my "for you" page collects dandelion crayola crayons and it was so cool!!!!!!)
Incorporate one new piece in an outfit you wear frequently (e.g., a new chain, a necklace, ribbons, bracelets, ect.). Challenge yourself to add onto the outfits if you feel up for it.
Sing along to songs without worrying that you sound "good" or your intonation is completely accurate
Read a book from a genre you weren't allowed to read as a kid (comics, thrillers, mysteries, anything!)
Walk without having a specific destination or goal
Pick up a new craft without expecting yourself to master it or to ever be "good" enough. Get your hands messy.
I don't want to shame anybody for not feeling as though they have free will or that they are exempt from exercising it. However, I wanted to give ideas so that you might read this list and find your own ways to express your intrinsic autonomy and will. You deserve to be a person, to feel alive, not just living. That is what our lives are for.

Each time Arthur has helped someone without expecting payment (that I can remember) because I’ve seen some weird takes circling around about how Arthur only cares about money/doesn’t help people (yet again)
He helped a city photographer take pictures and acted as his protector because he liked him
He helped a doctor retrieve a stolen wagon full of medicine, he wasn’t even asked to do so, he did it out of his own good will
He wanted to make an old cranky man happy and proposed finding his lost trinkets for him
He helped Deborah MacGuiness find dinosaur bones out of curiosity. He didn’t receive any financial reward for it. Just a few trinkets and he was satisfied
He risked his life for Marko Dragic’s experiments (his main motivation in this mission was again, curiosity)
He rescued a boy being held hostage by the gunsmith in Rhodes
He rescued people from being trafficked and gave them a large sum of money (he could’ve kept it for himself) for a better life
He helped Mr. White and Mr. Black gain freedom and even helped them again after they got themselves into trouble
He rescued Charles Chatenay on at least 3 different occasions
He instantly hurried to retrieve Sister Calderon’s cross even though he has never met her before
In his first encounter with Marjorie and Bertram, he helps to calm Bertram down and is understanding even though Bertram gave him trouble. He even puts the bartender in his place after he speaks about Bertram in a degrading manner
He agreed to help a man get rid of nigh folk occupying his property and after he payed him with only a rat pelt, Arthur didn’t get angry and still asked him if he’d be really fine on his own after knowing he wouldn’t be able to pay
He let a homeless man hug him and listened to what he has to say
He helped to save Jamie from becoming a cult member and stopped him from taking his life
He helped a boy look for his lost dog
He saved an injured man’s life after driving him to a doctor
He helped a woman get rid of a body after she claimed she had to kill the man in self-defence
He donated to the poor and even to build a shelter for war-veterans
He taught Charlotte how to survive on her own
He tried to save a crazed village out of his own good will
He helped a war veteran retrieve his prosthetic leg and helped him hunt
He helped a man look for his lost friend in the snowy mountains
He helped Rain’s Fall retrieve sacred items important to his people
He helped to retrieve stolen medical supplies for the Wapiti tripe
He saved Captain Monroe’s life after hearing he was in danger
He helped Beau and Penelope escape from their terrible families
He has saved many hunters from getting mauled, given many ladies a ride home, saved people from dying of poisoning, helped gather herbs, helped a lost New Yorker find his way to the town, helped save many people’s lives (lady being held hostage in her own house in Lemoyne, folk getting tortured by The Murfees or Lemoyne Raiders etc.)
Let’s not forget the fact that Arthur is a provider for over 20 people. He cannot be running around and risking his life for free for everyone he meets. He needs money. Even so, he has helped all the people above for no reward and out of his own free will. When I see someone say that Arthur is only motivated by money and never helps people otherwise, I just instantly assume they stormed through the story and didn’t pay any attention. The encounters listed above make up the majority of chance encounters/side quests and in almost all of them he is helping people. 80% of these are also pre-diagnosis.
He has a hard time accepting any compliments or gratitude for his good deeds and always downplays himself. Even in the main story he is never thinking about himself and he always puts others first.
“You did not ask for anything, you only gave”
Tumblr media
The encounters where he does require payment pale in comparison to those in which he doesn’t, and even so they are very justified as they are often dangerous, time consuming or straight up ridiculous. It’s weird to assume Arthur only helps people for money when he doesn’t want to deliver love letters, interview dangerous people and sneak into heavily guarded properties for free.

It states that in every classic romantic relationship, one party is the reacher, the other the settler. IYO which one do you think is the reacher and settler? (Mello and Near). You need to pick one, can't say they are equal xD
ooh what an interesting question!! this is really tough to answer because i do honestly think they are equal, but i suppose i will outline exactly what i think each of them brings to the table, and then i'll try to assign them roles after i've written it all out.
since Near has trouble taking care of himself, Mello would be able to look after him (and i absolutely think he'd insist on doing this himself, even if they have more than enough money to pay a housekeeper - partly because bringing a third party into their lives is extremely dangerous, partly because he hates asking other people for help, and he likes the idea of being needed). he'd be there to keep Near company so he isn't alone all the time, and would also bring some degree of excitement to Near's life, which i think is one thing Near would really appreciate. without Mello, Near's routine would pretty much consist of working, eating, bathing and sleeping, and i tend to imagine that most cases after Kira's death would be fairly tedious in comparison. having Mello around keeps things interesting. he's one of the few people in the world who can challenge Near intellectually, and i think he's unpredictable in a way that Near would find thrilling.
Near meets Mello's emotional needs, being a calm voice of reason for him and helping to keep him somewhat sane. Mello is a very insecure person and this is the basis for all of his primary character flaws. being desired by someone would be good for his ego as is, but being desired by Near i think would be the absolute best-case scenario. Near is the reason why Mello feels so bad about himself in the first place, and of everyone in his life, Near's opinion about him matters most. having Near show interest in him and treat him like an equal would do wonders for his self-esteem. i suppose if you go by the extremely traditional breadwinner x homemaker relationship model then you could also say Near has a lot to offer in terms of wealth, although i personally think they both have a right to L's fortune, since they were both technically chosen (and i think Near would say the same).
ultimately, if i really had to pick, i would probably say Near is the settler and Mello is the reacher, because i genuinely believe that in canon, Mello couldn't possibly be as fulfilled in a relationship with anyone else. Near could, theoretically, find someone who can take care of him, keep him company, and match his intelligence on some level, even if it wouldn't quite be the same. Mello, on the other hand, has essentially based his entire life and personality around Near, and thus i don't think there's a way for him to ever fully resolve his insecurities without a relationship with Near. he could potentially benefit from a friendship or a working relationship, but i think a romantic relationship best suits his needs because of the element of being desired, and the knowledge that Near wants him around constantly.
i do definitely believe that Mello thinks he's the reacher, and that has a huge influence on his behaviour in their relationship. i think he'd struggle a lot with feeling unworthy of Near, and would try to go above and beyond for him to prove himself - though i don't imagine he'd admit it if Near were to point it out. but realistically i think there's a good balance in the relationship, and they would both get something out of it that they couldn't get from anyone else.
thank you for the ask! :-)

Oh that's fine :) u can change it to a fem human
      ROBOT x fem human reader
    『 robot ,, female human reader 』
  -> robot n his fem human s/o
  — fluff ,, sfw ,,
  — eee !! this guy is super cute <33 since you didn’t specify whether its hcs or oneshot i just did some hcs pf being his s/o
• this guy is super curious about everything ,, especially when it comes to you !
• he’s interested in learning anything ,, whether it be a small game of throwing a ball or just drawing in the dirt with him
• he does end up learning a few more words besides ‘friend’ ‘yes’ ‘no’ ‘danger’ and your name ,, such as ‘like’ and ‘dislike’ ,, which ends up being helpful when trying to talk to him
• for the most part ,, however ,, he’s silent and only stands and observes ,, before doing something on his own
• he is around you almost 24/7 ,, except for the moments you tell him its okay to roam around ,, just that he shouldn’t cause any trouble with others ,, though you doubt that would happen
• he does raise a lot of fear and suspicion amonst the others ,, which causes tension between you and others ,, but you dont really mind it ,, as Robot has done a lot to help you and the others ,, if they cant see that then its their problem
• there will be softer moments between you two ,, such as teaching him about hand holding ,, the big comparison in size as you place your smaller hand in his large one
• or times where you’ll trace along his body ,, feeling the cool metal under your warm touch ,, or just bask in his presence
• you have taught him to be kind and gentle when meeting animals ,, especially ones from earth like cats or dogs
• not have you held his hand ,, but you showed and taught him about hugging ,, wrapping your arms around him as you guide his own around yourself
• he was quick to enjoy hugging ,, ready to wrap his arms around you whenever he has the opportunity to
• another thing is kissing ,, though it was a bit difficult at first since he had no mouth ,, but it didnt stop you from smooching your mans !
• you’ll place soft kisses to his head ,, around the glass covering his lights as they swirl in curiosity ,, or on his hands when you hold them in your own
• kisses from him is just bonking his head against you ,, people dont know this though ,, so when he does it around others they get worried he’s trying to give you a concussion
• he’ll bonk his head against your forehead as a way to give you a forehead kiss ,, or against your cheek ,, and sometimes on your lips
• he just needs some kisses in his life yknow? 🥺

disordered eating things
today i survived my second therapy appointment--this was the first one focused on my food issues. my therapist (who’s still training, she’s technically not a therapist yet) has no experience working with eating disorders, so she did research on ARFID at my request before this second visit.
so she asked me questions today, then more follow-up ones, and then told me that while she will be consulting other experts and she definitely wants to help me with my food habits that are concerning, i don’t fit the diagnostic criteria of ARFID as she understands them because...i’m fat.
she didn’t phrase it that way, but that was the essence of it, because according to her understanding of what she’s reading, a diagnosis requires significant weight loss, severe nutritional issues, or otherwise suffering things like being unable to get out of bed or using a feeding tube.
(she tried to explain it with a comparison using anorexia, but it still didn’t make sense to me because it seemed to be implying that someone whose behavior is anorexic who still ‘functions’ in their life despite their symptoms wouldn’t be considered anorexic. and when i asked for clarity about that, she said that no, they would be--which still leaves me wondering how i could then have symptoms but not be disordered technically due to my weight or my health problems being not bad enough.)
i pushed back against everything she said that i didn’t understand, or that didn’t match my knowledge of ARFID--it can be a struggle for me to stay focused and stand up for myself with medical professionals but i’m trying really hard in this case. and since i know lots of people with disordered eating have trouble getting help when they’re fat, i was aware this might happen, so it was important to me to clarify how negatively and severely my life is impacted by my food struggles.
(also i’ve lost nearly 40 pounds in less than a year without any exercise because my eating has gotten so much worse, and i just learned i have a major zinc deficiency after i had to take supplements for years to fix a B deficiency that got so bad i couldn’t walk. so i even have the health effects she was talking about. i’m just not dangerously thin, and am therefore regarded as not-disordered.)
in a month, i’ll see her again in person and see what further insight she’s gained from her colleagues. i won’t be shocked if the anti-fat bias in my healthcare system means she concludes that i don’t have an eating disorder, even as my ‘safe foods’ keep growing more restricted and right now i’m surviving on mostly toast, mac & cheese, fries and popcorn.
the good news is that she does mean well and we get along okay, so she’s listened thus far and understands me as well as any non-autistic, non-experienced-with-spectrum-folks therapist can. i just may not get a diagnosis unless someday i can access one of the very few places/professionals that’s experienced with ARFID and knows the nuances in how it can affect people.
most likely in the meantime she’ll be helping me with the psychological side of my food issues without the label, and she knows i want guidance on how to find help with the physical stuff that isn’t her area. i know i can’t fix this on my own, and at least i’m trying to navigate a really complicated system despite how frustrating it is. i always feel great relief when i’m done with an appointment, but i also feel hopeful about this. so that’s nice.

Part 3 of a  short fic about arknights gladiia and plume
"Did you see?"
"Hm?" Orchid looks up from her book and sips on her coffee.
"Plume's on vacation."
"Plume never takes a break. And besides, wasn't she scheduled for something?"
"Well, get this: She didn't file it herself. Someone brought it directly to the Doc."
"She's taking a vacation together with someone else? Now I'm worried..."
Midnight laughs. "You worry about her not having any friends, you worry about her working too much and now you worry about her spending free time with someone else."
Orchid waves her half-empty teacup at Midnight with a stern look.
"It's so sudden. And so... unexplained."
"About that, it was probably Gladiia. I saw her going into Plume's room a few days ago."
Startled, Orchid glares at Midnight.
"How'd she get involved with her of all people?"
"Don't know. Something wrong with it?"
"Gladiia... the Hunters, they're dangerous."
"Oh don't be like that. They're our allies."
"I'm not disputing that, it's more that they lack common sense. What's average to them is far from that for us. Someone as... normal as Plume will get into a lot of trouble and danger when dealing with them."
Midnight leans closer to Orchid and puts his hand on her shoulder.
"If Doc approved it then it'll be fine."
"Right... They wouldn't just do that without being given a reason, even if it was Gladiia."
"So what do you think the two are up to?"
"I have no idea. But when I think about it, they're similar in certain ways.
"You mean how they're both terrible at talking?"
Orchid empties her cup and stands up to get more. "Mhm. Now, I haven't dealt much with Gladiia, but from what I do know she talks as if words weren't an expendable commodity and doesn't show up much around here."
"Isn't that a pretty terrible pair? Granted, I'm pretty sure Plume would have a lot to talk about if she ever found someone to confide in, but as is they'll just stare at each other."
"Who knows. Whatever happened behind Plume's door, it must've given Gladiia a good enough reason to spend time with her. She's not someone who does things without one. Want some coffee?"
"I'm still good, thanks," Midnight answers with a smile, pointing at his cup.
Light wind is blowing towards the land from the sea. Grey clouds are covering the sky as far as the eye can see and light rain is falling.
In the middle of nowhere Gladiia comes to a stop and sets Plume down.
Or rather, she intends to, but Plume is clinging to her back with all her might and won't let go.
Somewhere along the trip her hat fell off.
Gladiia puts Plume's back on the ground and stands around for a moment. "You can let go now."
Plume lets go and falls to her knees.
"I'm fine," Plume says, breathing heavily. She stands up, still a bit unsteady.
"...where are we?"
"Iberia."
"How..."
"I took us here."
"How long did it take?"
Gladiia looks at the sky. "Who knows. It's irrelevant."
"We were stationed near Victoria. Iberia isn't too far from there, I suppose." Plume looks around. There's nothing here except for a few wind-beaten trees and the nearby beach.
Gladiia picks up Plume's hat. "Come."
A stiff breeze passes by and Plume realizes the loss of her hat. "My hat..."
The two walk in silence for a while until they're right by the water.
"Have you been to this place before? Experienced the sea?"
"I haven't."
"What do you think of it?"
Plume looks over the unsteady ocean in front of her. The grey water stretches on and on forever until it merges with the sky in the horizon. Something about it makes her feel weird.
"It's intimidating."
"Why?"
"There's so much of it and..." Plume pauses to try and look further into the distance.
"who knows what could be in there."
For the briefest of moments, unnoticed by Plume, Gladiia smirks.
"What if I told you that whatever you're dealing with here on the surface pales in comparison to the threat the ocean holds?"
"I can't really judge that."
"Why is that?"
"What I'm dealing with already pales to other things happening on the surface."
Gladiia raises an eyebrow.
Plume points at the ocean.
"If there's something even more terrible in there, then is there really a point to me worrying about it?"
She looks at Gladiia with a forlorn expression. "I have to know my limits."
Gladiia didn't expect such an answer from Plume.
"Let's keep going."
They walk through the sand, the light rain ever persistently pelting them.
Plume was very glad for her cape being waterproof, but the sadness over the loss of her hat only kept increasing the longer the rain kept going.
As they walked Plume observed the ocean. There was nothing out there. The waves kept rolling in with the wind, uniform as they went. She didn't notice that it was getting darker until night had already fallen.
Plume stopped moving when she saw something in the distance. A patch of light was forming on the water's surface.
It seemed to be moving, but she wasn't sure if it was a visual trick of the waves or if it really was coming closer.
She looked ahead of her and ran after Gladiia, who had stopped some meters ahead.
She was looking at the light.
"What's that light?"
"What do you think it is?"
Plume looked back at it. It was definitely coming closer. It also seemed to be getting bigger.
She shook her head. "I don't know."
"The Seaborn."
"What's that?" Plume hadn't heard of the Seaborn. The Abyssal Hunters never talked about the happenings in Iberia and neither did any of the operators involved, or Kal'tsit. It was something that was being kept under wraps.
Gladiia brushes a strand of hair out of her face. "You'll see in due time."
"Is this what you took me here for?"
"Yes."
The light had reached the shore and the Seaborn creatures began to slither onto the beach towards the two.
"I will take care of most of them and leave some isolated for you."
It was a very sudden development. Plume answered, but Gladiia had already stepped forth and didn't hear her.
What Plume saw before her made her feel unwell. She tried to grasp its shape, but it was difficult.
It was an undulating mass of different transparent colours. She thought she could make out some eyes and limbs here and there, but it was either constantly changing shape or simply not understandable.
Cautiously she approached it and slashed at it to maneuver herself to the side, but her blade slid off its rubbery, bouncy exteriour, leaving no trace of it being attacked.
It made a hissing noise, that Plume wasn't sure of if it was from air being released from its body or an actual vocalization, and moved towards her. She saw it extending a limb, evaded sideways and chopped down at it, but it just bent and retracted.
Plume took a step back and tried to observe it again.
Gladiia, who was fully used to fighting these things, had already taken care of the rest and stood at a distance to see how Plume was handling herself.
Plume focused on what she thought were its eyes and went for a stab that she put her whole weight into. It landed perfectly where she aimed and penetrated the creature. A pale blue substance sprayed out of it onto her halberd, but she continued driving it deeper in.
Plume could feel a headache building and her hands trembling. She firmly gripped the handle of her halberd and tried to pull it back out. It remained stuck for a moment, but she managed to pull it free. More of the blue liquid spurted out of the opening she created. It got onto Plume’s arm. Her heart was pounding and her view blacked out for just a moment. She stepped in and kicked the creature to topple it over and then performed a wide swing from above onto the wound she had inflicted, splitting the creature apart. It kept writhing for a few moment before going limp.
With clenched teeth, Plume breathed heavily through her nose. Even as it was lying dead on the ground in front of her, she still wasn't clearly able to tell what it was. Somehow it just refused to be perceived by her.
Plume looked around. There were four or five corpses strewn about ahead of her where Gladiia had swiftly parted them.
After staring at the ground, holding onto her halberd to steady her trembling hands, Plume looked at Gladiia.
"I don't understand. This... thing was doing something to me just by being there. I'm almost afraid to ask what it is. Miss Gladiia... will it make sense if you explain it to me?"
"Let's move on for now."
Gladiia waited for Plume to steady herself and they kept walking along the beach. Plume kept glancing at the sea. As she walked, with the wind in her hair and the light rain washing away the awful sensation this encounter had left her with, she started feeling better again.
Or rather than better, she went back to feeling just neutral.
"You did all that while carrying my bag?"
"Yes."
"Hm." Plume nods.
After a while Plume spots some buildings in the distance.
She stops to take another look over the sea and then returns to following Gladiia, who has changed direction towards the settlement.
It's early evening by the time they arrive.
It's just a few houses and there aren't many people out and about, and the ones they do see give them suspicious looks. Their eyes tend to linger on Gladiia more than Plume.
"Go find yourself a place to sleep. I'll get you tomorrow."
"Where will you spend the night?"
"There are things I must do." Gladiia says, in a kind of non-answer, and hands Plume her bag and some money.
"Some of the residents will likely have a room for you."
Plume wasn't used to doing something like this. She couldn't just go up to a stranger and ask them for a place to sleep.
She picked up her bag and wandered around for a while and before she knew, night had fallen.
There was one house that seemed to be a bar, so she decided to try her luck there.
There weren't many people there. Must be locals who are sitting at the tables, drinking, chatting or doing other things.
At the counter there was a young liberi man doing some cleaning. Plume wasn't sure what to do and just kinda stood there in the doorway for a moment before he called out to her.
"You should come in and close the door or the wind will get in."
Plume hurriedly stepped inside and closed the door behind her in one motion.
Driven by that momentum she approached the counter. The bartender smiled at her.
"What can I get you?" He had a gentle voice and spoke in a soft tone.
"I was wondering if you had a room I could spend the night in. I can pay, of course."
He tilted his head in thought. "Sure, we can accomodate you. It's just you?"
"Well... I had a... traveling companion."
Plume glances behind her, to make sure Gladiia didn't suddenly show up out of nowhere.
"So, yes. Just me."
The bartender nodded and took her upstairs. The room was tidy and as average as it gets.
He handed her the key and Plume tried to pay him, but he told her that they'd handle that the next day.
Plume didn't go to bed right away, even though she was fairly exhausted. The window was fairly low to the ground, so she sat down in front of it and leaned onto it to look outside.
It pointed land inward, so there wasn't much to look at. Just the flat, wind-beaten landscape.
A few lonely trees, battered by the constant wind and salty air, a road that lead into the distance.
Her eyes glazed over and she wound up with her cheek pressed against the glass.
Plume caught herself almost dozing off and laid herself to rest in the bed.
She woke up, feeling not all that well-rested.
When she sat up in the bed, she spotted something in the corner of her eye at the opposite end of the room and backed up against the wall at her side.
Upon looking, she saw that it was Gladiia. She relaxed for a moment before the surprise of her being here caught up to her.
Gladiia was reading a book, but she couldn't tell what it was through the darkness of the room.
Was she actually reading it anyway?
"You're awake. Did you rest well?" Gladiia looked up and put the book on the small table at her side. Maybe it was part of the room.
"I'm fine."
The two looked at each other for a few moments.
Plume wasn't sure if Gladiia expected her to say more or to do something.
Plume got up from the bed. Gladiia had returned to looking at the book. Plume decided that that was, what she was doing anyway.
She changed out of the simple shirt she had been sleeping in and back into her uniform.
"Miss Gladiia..."
"Just Gladiia is fine. Or captain, if you wish. We are out on a mission after all."
Plume felt weird, calling her either of that but decided that simply adressing her by her name was the better option.
"Gladiia, isn't this bothersome to you? Even I can feel the tension."
"We're in enemy territory, tension is normal."
"It's not like that. You're doing this to placate Specter, right?"
Gladiia hesitates to answer.
This matter had indeed been thrown at her by Laurentina and she had to deal with it. Her immediate thought was to scare her away and make sure she wouldn't end up involved with her any further. Being able to combine this with looking into the Seaborn matters was only convenient.
But there was something about Plume; her unexpected maturity perhaps, her realistic view of herself, that made Gladiia reconsider.
Gladiia looks out of the window.
"I think you're doing fine."
"Huh?" Plume was surprised.
Her reason for taking Plume to Iberia was to show her how pointless it was to pursue strength for someone like her.
"You know what you're doing and you're trying hard."
"...but?"
Gladiia looked at Plume for a long time. The dissonance between her being both so comfortable and uncomfortable in their interactions was puzzling to her.
"You're limited by your physical form."
"Does that not go for everyone? Don't we all grow more, become better... someone we're not?
Isn't it everyone's wish to evolve?"
Gladiia raised her head just a bit and held her left arm down with her right hand.
She glared at Plume as a sharp pain shot through her heart.
Plume could tell that she said something wrong, but didn't know what to do so she just stood there.
Gladiia took a deep, audible breath and stood up.
Plume wanted to look away, as she was looming threateningly over her, but couldn't break eye contact.
"It can be easier..." Gladiia exhaled. She had trouble finding the right words.
Plume's comment had stirred her anger. It was an instinctual response stemming from her own condition.
Gladiia reached out with her left hand. Plume placed her own in Gladiia's open palm. Neither of them knew what they were trying to accomplish with this.
"If you had the choice to become irrevocably stronger, would you do it?"
"Yes." Plume answered stoically.
"Why?"
"My merits lie in my usefulness. If I can be stronger, I can be more useful."
"Such thinking will only lead to desctruction."
"Isn't that fine though? Isn't it better to die accomplishing something, than to exist without a purpose?"
Gladiia hated this. She hated that she could resonate with Plume's thoughts here. It's self-destructive and wrong, but she wasn't the right person to teach her that. She was too similar to her.
Their standoff was broken by a voice from the other side of the door.
"Good morning. Would you like to have some breakfast?"
Gladiia pulled her hand away and jumped out of the window, landing outside without a sound.
Plume blinked a few times from the sudden drop in atmospheric tension.
"I'll be going now, thank you."
"Okay."
She folded the blanket on the bed and took her things.
After paying, she left. Gladiia was nowhere to be seen, so she left the village towards the sea.
It was a calm morning. The sky was still grey with clouds, but there was hardly any wind. The ocean... so pretty. Scary too.
Plume heard footsteps from behind her and turned around, but before she could actually do it she had been lifted up by the collar of her cape.
"We're going back."
"Ah... okay...?"
Plume felt her cape slipping, but before she could fall Gladiia had placed her on her back.
She held on tight, same as the first time, as Gladiia started to incomprehensibly speed up.
Plume sat in her room, looking at the wall. In her hands she was messing around with one of her hats. Kneading it, pulling at it, squeezing it. She had a lot of them. They were a part of her uniform after all.
Well, she wasn't actually looking at the wall. She was looking at the Iberian ocean.
It was just a single day, but she had returned with a strong impression of...
of Gladiia. She still didn't know what that was all about or what she meant to accomplish.
She wasn't sure if what she so brazenly claimed to be the reason for Gladiia's action was true, but she was certain that nothing Gladiia ever did was straightforward.
All her words and actions were riddles that were part of a puzzle that was scattered in a labyrinth.
Seaborn... somehow these things were the least strange part of that trip to her at the end of it all.
Plume put her hat on, but it felt wrong, so she took it off and continued roughing it up between her hands.
More time passed, but she just couldn't sort out her disorderly thoughts.
Someone more poetic could've described her mind to be akin to the stormy sea.
Knocks on her door.
"Come in." Plume didn't care who it was. Usually nobody knocked on her door, but within the past few days it had suffered some abuse. She was glad for someone to distract her. Still being off work had left her with nothing but her own thoughts.
It was Specter. Laurentina? It felt wrong to call her that. She didn't know her.
Plume kept staring through the wall into the vague distance.
"May I take a seat?" she asked, already sitting across from Plume.
"If you keep staring at me so intensely I'll get embarrassed you know."
Plume focused her eyes and looked up at Specter's face.
She tilted her head, as if to ask what brought her here, but didn't actually ask the question.
But Specter understood what she meant. "Just wanted to have a chat. Gladiia's been a bit of a pain since she came back."
Plume tilted her head the other way and cast her eyes down.
"Mhm. That's just like how talking to her is. Is that all you learned from that trip, rationing your words?"
Plume muttered a few inaudible words.
"It's pretty cute, you know? Having a little Gladiia around."
"I'm nothing like her..."
"You're just afraid to compare yourself to her. Honestly was a pretty stupid idea to let you two go out like that anyway. Of course nothing would come out of you two staring at each other and holding conversations at one word per minute speeds."
"Did I make her angry?"
"I don't think so. Whatever it was that happened, it touched her in some way. But just like so many other things, she won't tell me.
But I wouldn't say that she's upset."
"She seemed like she was."
"That's just how she is. She always makes a face like you swapped her salt and sugar," Specter answered with a dismissive gesture."
Plume couldn't help but chuckle at that weird analogy.
"Look at that, you can at least laugh at a joke. That's one thing you've got over her."
"I'm just so confused about all this."
"She had you fight some seaborn?"
Plume nodded.
"I could  gather as much. How'd that go?"
"It was awful. I... well I honestly can't say much more about it. It felt weird, awful and I didn't understand it."
"You killed it though, right?"
"I did...? I'd say so."
"What'd you do?"
"I looked for an eye, did my best to pierce it and then cut it in half through that wound."
"Clever. See, you're smart. Unlike us three, you can't just brainlessly crush them."
Plume put her head into her hands.
"What is it that makes you so strong?"
"It's a long story, one I'd like to tell you but I can't."
"Okay."
Laurentina put her hand on Plume's head and ruffled her hair.
"In truth, I have to apologize to you. I didn't expect Gladiia to do what she did.
She thought you'd be better off not associating with her, or us. I can see where she's coming from, but it's no good."
"Why me though?"
"Oh it doesn't have to be you. You just kind of were there."
"A victim of circumstance?"
"That's too meanspirited."
Silence fell over the room.
"Is it okay if I say something about Gladiia?"
"Sure, speak your mind. She's not going to come bursting through the wall on the mere mention of her name."
Now that Specter said that, Plume wasn't sure if it wouldn't happen.
"She's strangely easy to talk to. But also not. In some way I can see eye to eye with her."
Laurentina smiles.
"Like I said, you're similar in that way. Dutiful loners who want the best for the people around or close to them but have zero ability to communicate.
It's a deeper understanding. I couldn't get it. The reason why it feels wrong to you is because of her position. She's our captain, she's close to Kal'tsit. An implicit superiour to you."
Plume nods.
"Well. You should hang out with us more often. Just come to the deck as you usually do. It'll be fun."
"I... I will."
"Good! And now, I have something for you."
"Ah?"
"You lost your hat on the trip, right?"
"I did, but," Plume looks at the crumpled hat in her hand. "I have spares."
"I'm going to give you another spare then."
Specter took a hat out of one of her dress's pockets and gave it to Plume. She took it into her hands. It had a vaguely similarly pointed design to Gladiia's, just more flat.
"I can't wear that..."
"Why?"
"It'll give people the wrong idea."
"You don't want people to think you associate with us?" Laurentina pouts.
"N-no that's not it. Isn't it part of your uniform? I couldn't break the dresscode like that."
"It's nothing so grand. We just wear these hats because they're fashionable. They're not even practical. A fair breeze could take them off, you know?"
Laurentina took the hat out of Plume's hands and put it onto her head.
"Thank you," Plume said, blushing slightly.

What if Sophie’s bio father was human? It would fit in with everything Forkle has said: earth-shattering, nobody could know, everything else. But also, Forkle said her parents don’t know each other. Oralie’s a literal world leader? He could’ve just meant they never met each other, but it seems like he would’ve phrased it different in that case. And this would also make Sophie exactly what they want her to be: a bridge between both worlds.
That would definitely be an interesting twist! With how cut off from the human world the elven world is, any connection between the two (let alone an entire child) would be scandalous and completely revolutionary.
And it most definitely wouldn't bode well for Sophie; she has enough trouble as it is with everything else going on in her life. If people found out she was half-human they'd use that as a reason to vilify her and everything she does. Any action she takes that they don't approve of they can and would attribute to her human half and use it as evidence against humans. Why would we ever trust humans when we see that half-human child breaking all the laws? It's the human part of her! Humans are just like that and we can't trust them! And so on and so forth.
Humans aren't even considered an intelligent species anymore. She'd legit only be half of an intelligent species. For all that, it'd be disastrous if anyone found out. It would also be an interesting comparison between the "no one can find out about Oralie because it would ruin her life and the government" to now have a "no one can find out because it will ruin your life" situation. She's not keeping someone else's secret for them, she's keeping it for herself because it poses a very real danger to her.
Her being that actual bridge between worlds would be a fascinating perspective to have in the story. It'd give her even more of a stake and a reason to defend humans. She may also find comfort in knowing that she wasn't as out of place among her human family as she thought, that there was at least a part of her that belonged with them.
I think the primary counter to this argument is the scene from Exile when Sophie finds out her DNA was modeled on alicorn DNA. In that scene he tells her that despite the modeling, she's "still one hundred percent elf" (pg. 505). Unless he's flat out lying in that scene or Shannon hadn't fully solidified who her father was until later on, I don't see how a human father would fit with her being 100% elf. It's entirely possible that he'd lie to her face about it to protect their identities, especially so early in the series before Sophie has really started to fight back about the secrecy. It's also possible that when Shannon wrote that line she was intending to have her father be an elf, but changed her mind later on and couldn't go back and change what she'd written because it was already published. So it's not entirely impossible, just something else to take into consideration.
But if her father was human, I'd certainly be interested to see how that plays out and affects the story! Along with the specifics of how that human got involved, as Forkle did say the DNA donors were aware she was their daughter. It's an excellent idea, so thank you for sharing!

My personal random headcanons about the original round table from BBC Merlin
Gwen:
She used to be tomboy, as a kid. In TV show we see her mostly hang around with man (partially becouse we had a lot of man in this show), she was raised by her father after her mother died. This meant that a lot of her influences were male, this also shaped her interests. We see her making a key to the cell Leon was traped in, so she had to know her way around the metal.
Once she became Morgana's servant, she started spending way more time around other woman, and her interests shifted. She particularly enjoys sewing
Once she learnt that Merlin had magic, she legalised it, but made some laws restricitng the use of it, since she often had seen it used for the cruel things. Like what a lot of sorcerers who attacked Camelot did to the civilians.
She struggled during the transition from the servant to the queen. Even after years she had some habits that she developed during her childhood.
Elyan:
He used to be a trouble kid, Gwen mentioned that he often followed his heart, and that it often led him to the wrong places. I think that if not for the fact, that he felt like he hurt his sister by not being there, he would have travel for way longer, and would eventualy get into some serious.
I think he's very good with children, mostly becouse of the scene with the ghost of a druid boy. Gentleness seems to run in the family.
Shares a lot of memories with Leon, and has a specific bond with him, since he is the only of the knights that he knew since childhood.
Leon:
He is actually hot headed, but is working on his temper. In episode with goblin, he was ready to fight goblin Gaius, but the longer he spends as a knight the calmer he gets.
The oldest among the round table other than Gaius
Many people have a headcanon that he is immortal, but I think that he is a lot like Klaus from Umbrella academy. Death hates HIM specifically. Even if he dies, he just goes back. That's why he is unfazed about so many dangers.
Lancelot:
Spent a lot of time among druids. Those guys never leave anyone in need, so it makes sense that someone who was orphaned at a young age would meet them. One of the reasons why he didn't seem really bothered about Merlin having magic. He grew up around it
Has tendencies to become completely obsessed with stuff. Sometimes it's something like becoming the knight, but sometimes he has truly weird obssesions.
Percival:
He had a huge family. Like a lot of siblings and cousins. They all died around family celebration (wedding).
Also good with kids. He and Elyan are ultimate babysitting duo.
Becouse of that he gets really protective of others in the group. Especially Gwen, Merlin, Gaius and Gwaine. He is protective of the first three becouse he belives that they are helpless in comparison to the knights, and protective of Gwaine becouse he often gets in trouble.
Uses his strength to help with a lot of pranks. I mean this dude pushed rocks of the cliff. He definitly can do some weird stuff with those arms of his.
Gaius:
Has seen a lot of sorcerers abusing their powers, that's why at the beggining he didn't protest when Uther started the purge. Only after a while he noticed that Uther was just as bad as those sorcerers.
Used to be great at more combative spells when he was younger.
Merlin:
As a child he used to have magical outbursts, around the time he had growth spurts.
He said that one of his neighboors didn't like him, and I think it's becouse of Merlin's sarcasm. The neighboor was constantly thinking he was talking back.
He definitly has a type. First Morgana, then Freya, he also said that Nimue's look could rival that of a princess. He just sees pale woman with dark hair, who looks good in red, and doesn't know what to do.
Arthur:
Hates any type of lies. He grew up around Uther, Morgana and Agravaine, so he is used to those, which is one of the reasons why he hates lies so much. He doesn't like having to analyse others people words all the time.
Would have legalise magic himself, if he was given the time, but fully trusting Merlin again would take a lot of time. After that they would have been closer than ever.
He slept with a teddy bear for a very long time (yes, this is becouse of the children in need video)
Gwaine (I am leaving him for the last, becouse I have the most headcanons about him):
Grew up mostly around woman. We know that he doesn't remember his father, so he was raised by his mother. Plus he has a sister. I have a headcanom that he had a cool grandma.
He could meet new people without any issues, but he had a lot of issues with forming deeper connections.
I think he didn't like his sister, becouse she was too serious, and had more traditional views on nobility than he had.
He has a very weird skillset, becouse during his travels he learnt a lot unrelated stuff. One moment he could be fighting, other moment he could be dancing, and another moment he could be giving lecture about wyverns.
Covers up his negative feelings with humor. It makes finding out what's wrong way harder.
(I found that one in anothers person post, but it's so true) He is basically Florida man of Camelot.

I've seen a lot of people saying Elain is acotar's Sansa, so continuing the acotar and got comparing I wanted to say that I feel some Theon vibes on Lucien, talking about the <<<journey>>>
They both came from important families, but never felt at home there. Then, they had to live in another place, and tried to make themselves usefull for their new "masters", besides not belonging there too. And, because they were so desperate to belong somewhere, they commited mistakes (Theon's are a hundred million times worse, there is no comparison, of course).
They both suffered horrible things, and got so broken that they lost a lot of their spirits. Everyone talks about how Lucien changed from acotar 1, but would you keep being the same after being tortured, trepted, suffering SA and being always diminuted? Remember that he was already in a bad place before, with all his backstory.
It seems very alike to Theon's journey to me. When he finally gets free from Ramsay, he is so traumatized that becomes an entirelly different man. And he tries so hard to help the good people then, even with nowone trusting or respecting him. Nothing he does is enough. Yet he tries, and doesn't say anything back to the insults, because he thinks he deserves everything bad.
After Lucien goes to the NC in acowar, the same thing happens. We still can see his fire sometimes, but he's so different from the Lucien we first met. And he makes everything to not be useless - that's a big thing to him, since he always offers his services to help and even goes to a dangerous travel alone, explaining that "it was time for him to finally do something".
Another big thing for Lucien is the feeling of home. I'm 100% sure that this is gonna be the main question in his journey. Even in acofas he says firmly that the manor at the human lands also belongs to him. He gets irritated with Rhysand and Feyre paying for his stuff. He finds himself a house in Velaris right after war just because he doesn't want to cause trouble. And with the whole thing of being usefull or not, and Rhys saying that he is very loyal... Lucien is the kind of person who feels like any help he recieves is a doubt to pay, just like it was with Tamlin.
Also, about "losing his personality"... I don't thing he lost it. He just hides his fiery side right now (it shows up sometimes, like when he calms Cassian down in acosf, or in the beggining of acowar, or in his discussion with Feyre in acofas) and doesn't feel happy or comfortable enough to make jokes and all. Because we only see him around the IC now. He was caught smiling and laughing with Vassa; even with Feyre, when they're alone and the issues between them don't get in the way. But in the NC, he has to be someone just smart and a political ally, nothing else. Nobody in there trusts him. Nowone tries to show that they like his presence there, except for Feyre, witch is the intention SJM had when she put that ridiculous scene between Cassian and Lucien in ACOSF.
So it's obvious to me that the feeling of belonging and home and who am I? will be essencial for Lucien's development. Just like... Theon.
But it seems to me that SJM has some bigger plans for Lucien. She made him the son of Helion Spell-Cleaver for a reason. Said that this information wouldn't change nothing on that first war. And she tried really hard to prove the readers that he is a good male in acowar - I could make a whole other post about how she tried to "redeem" him for acomaf in acowar and acofas, actually. She wanted the readers who didn't pay attention to his character in acomaf to know that, besides his mistakes, he is good. And she even makes Feyre say those exatly words twice in the series.
Just to finish the comparison, in the first book Theon is like an evil version of acotar!Lucien? They're both arrogant and a little traumatized, except that Lucien wore that as a mask and could be very kind. As the time passes, they change. But, when Theon got easily manipulated to do the most horrible things and became the villain in his own story, Lucien was the clever fox, never liked anything Tamlin did in acomaf - he was trying to calm things down, and was afraid of his own friend (even Feyre recognizes that). Tamlin was always dominating him, even using physical force. Yet he kept being smart. That's why I'm just talking about their JOURNEYS.
I'm so excited to read more about him. He's the most intriging character in acotar for me. I absolutely love characters that are misunderstood by other characters in the story; the ones who are lonely, and you have to pay attention to understand them; the ones who stay on the back and have so much to deal with but won't tell nobody... I love them.
Ps: I'm so excited to read more about Theon too! He was the most interesting part of A Dance with Dragons. But it seems like GRRM won't finish the next book 😭

Yeah I just saw a post of people acting like antivaxxers and Covid-deniers are not only oppressed, but more oppressed than people who face racism.
So yeah. I really do feel the need to point out, as funny as it is that Murderbot thinks killing all humans is the world's stupidest idea, it is kind of fucking playing into the whole "oppressed people shouldn't use violence to fight back against their oppressors".
Like yeah, sure, in the context of "oh of course all robots wants to kill all humans", Murderbot going, "no, why would I want to do that? That's stupid" is funny in comparison, but not really when you look at the bigger picture of Martha Wells being a white woman, and all her fictional character classes that are oppressed so far are oppressed because they are legitimately dangerous.
SecUnits have guns in their arms and are stronger and faster than humans several times over. If Murderbot really wanted to, it could probably send an entire spacestation crashing out of orbit.
Raksura are oppressed because people mistake them for Fell, who literally murder and eat entire cities of people at a time. Raksura are stronger than 90% of groundlings and could kill any groundling they wanted with zero trouble. Most Raksura treat groundlings with hostility and don't treat them like people.
Even in the wizard hunter series, people who've been put under the affect of curses are oppressed...because a lot of people who were affected by a curse were cursed to start killing people.
Like, of all of Martha Wells' books that I've read so far, I think the only oppressed class of people that wasn't oppressed because they're legitimately dangerous and people have actual real safety concerns, was whatever the heck Khat is, since I don't recall them being particularly dangerous or threatening.
Real people aren't systemically oppressed because they're legitimately dangerous and can kill a whole city full of people with minimum amounts of effort.
The same is not true for constructs like Murderbot or Raksura.
Martha Wells keeps writing characters who are oppressed because they do literally pose a legitimate, very real threat to other people, and that's not how this works.
Like if you look at how Martha Wells write about oppression, it's quite literally this post:
cyproterone (deactivated) said:
fantasy that deals with dynamics of oppression in their world almost always fucking sucks because the writers never have any idea how oppression and persecution function, so it’s like, oh these poor people are being forced into glorified prison schools and law enforcement treats them with brutality and common people are distrustful and prejudicial towards them HOWEVER these people can also randomly turn into murder monsters who shoot fire in all directions
“my name is David Fantasywriter and I think oppressed people are oppressed for a perfectly justifiable reason such as Turning Into Demons For Fun”
Like. The Raksura do in fact literally turn into demons for fun. They literally evolved to eat other people. That's the entire purpose for them having a "groundling AKA normal person" form in the first place. So they can sneak into their camps and eat them.
I'm re-reading The Murderbot Diaries again, and I'm at the part where Murderbot and the ComfortUnit are talking again, and it's just really annoying how this other construct saying it wants to kill the people enslaving it is seen as something ridiculous and absurd and "only an idea a human could come up with".
Like yeah, it's so absurd that someone being oppressed might want to kill the people oppressing them, how silly and absurd /s.
It would be fine if literally any of these characters, including Murderbot, actually did fucking enact violent plans to rescue other oppressed people. But Murderbot doesn't seem to give two shits about any other constructs except itself. It only freed the ComfortUnit because of what it had just learned about the other ComfortUnits. It only tried to free the CombatUnit because it was currently trying to kill it.
For a series about oppression, The Murderbot Diaries doesn't really do much to fight back against oppression at all, and keeps condemning the idea of violent revolution, and yes, that's what it's doing, even if it's set up as a joke about how repetitive "robots rebel against humanity" stories are.
There is, in fact, a place between "robots rebel and kill all humans" and "robots don't fight back at all and don't try to free eachother".
The Murderbot Diaries has six books and two short stories, but despite it being stated over and over again that constructs are oppressed, no one seems to be doing anything about it, not even Murderbot, who so far has not displayed a single fuck given for other constructs in the bigger picture.
All it does it keep reiterating how dangerous Rogue SecUnits are, and how even other SecUnits should be afraid of them.
The change in my configuration would fool scans but not another SecUnit, and any Unit that detected me would report it to their HubSystem immediately. I sure as hell would have reported me. Rogue SecUnits are fucking dangerous, trust me on that.
How is this supposed to be a meaningful story about oppression when even the literal narrator keeps telling us how inherently dangerous and out of control these people are and it'd be better for everyone if they were enslaved again because they're just so fucking dangerous???????
"if any currently enslaved people realized I was free, they'd report me immediately, and I'd do the same if our roles were reversed, because non-enslaved people are fucking dangerous, trust me."
like???? excuse me?????
And if Martha Wells is trying to go for a "yeah Murderbot's not even immune to this propaganda" then that should have been something that got addressed immediately, within the first book or the second. Because right now the series is quite literally saying that people should be enslaved for the safety of everyone around them.
Like, I love this series, but I do not understand how everyone else reading these books has not noticed any of this. It's zootopia but with robots, or in the case of The Books of the Raksura, people who do literally turn into demons for fun.

lando calrissian meta:
Tumblr media
although i don’t love last shot as a novel for a number of reasons that i’m not going to detail in this post, what i do like and what the story nails, in my opinion, is most of its characterization of lando. the time skips also utilized do a good job at demonstrating the juxtaposition between who lando was pre-empire, and who he is in the present.
“you really miss those days?” han asked. “galivanting around the galaxy and getting into any trouble we could find?” “i mean, when you put it that way,” lando said, laughing, “yes!” han rolled his eyes. “i guess we had some fun.” “but seriously, i wouldn’t go back. i made a lotta mistakes back then. guess i had to make them to become the man i ended up, but still...” (p. 253-254)
who lando is during the era of solo, as well as pre-original trilogy in general, is learned — it’s the result of loss, fighting for his own survival in a vast galaxy that doesn’t give a damn, and the understanding that those who know him the best can use what they know to hurt him. he’s built a sort of persona to protect himself from any more of that. not to say that who we see lando to be at that time in his life isn’t really lando; he’ll always be witty, charming, flirtatious, and looking to be two steps ahead of everyone else. however, he’s amplified those qualities to the point of almost becoming a caricature of himself. no one really knows him ( he barely knows him ), and that’s how he likes it. it allows him to elude the possibility of someone using anything about him against him, and keeps him at arm’s length enough that he doesn’t feel too bad about using other people to a degree. he never wants to see anyone get hurt if he can avoid it, but his own self-interest is usually his top priority.
it’s evident early on, though, that that doesn’t encompass who lando actually is. while a lot of his smuggling jobs were for profit, the ones that posed the most significant risk to his life were to protect others who couldn’t protect themselves, and in defiance of the empire ( his disdain for which is no secret, and is echoed in empire when han says of lando, “he has no love for the empire, I can tell you that” ); what he gained from those jobs was nothing in comparison to the danger he placed himself in to complete them, regardless of how he attempted to spin the narrative that it was all for the money.
“yes, mr. calrissian, i sense...i sense something in you. that there’s more to you than you let on.” “you know what’s wild? you are the second person to say that to me today.” (p. 372)
it’s when he becomes baron administrator of cloud city that lando’s priorities shift drastically. he could control the city for solely his own benefit and bend the citizens to his will, but that’s never even a consideration for him. he can’t stomach tyranny, nor could he ever inflict cruelty on others. these people respect him, need him, and deserve his protection — and he wants to step up to their expectations accordingly. although he hasn’t allowed himself to think about it too much, he’s always wanted to do something worthwhile with his life, and he finds that on bespin. by the time we meet him in empire, lando is a little more subdued. he maintains a majority of the same qualities, but he’s relinquished some of the façade he’s adopted for so long as a shield. han himself even makes note of the change in lando.
han: you. listen to you — you sound like a businessman, a responsible leader. who'd have thought that, huh?
he’s still the lando that han knows, with the only attribute that seems to be missing almost entirely from who lando was a few years ago to the present is selfishness. nothing he does during empire or jedi is for himself. he does cut a deal with vader, but with the goal of protecting the people he’s responsible for on cloud city when the choice is comply or allow them to suffer imperial occupation. he’s also unaware of what vader has planned for han until it’s too late ( “that was never a condition of our agreement, nor was giving han to this bounty hunter!” ); he even goes out of his way to ensure that vader won’t harm leia or chewie, neither of whom he’s met before. when he watches vader freeze han in carbonite, it crushes him, as the script reads: “lando winces in sorrow; it makes a life-changing impression on him.” it’s following this, and after vader goes back on their agreement about leia and chewie’s safety, and once he feels in a position to do so, that he evacuates the city and immediately steps in to protect han’s friends. after rescuing luke, lando doesn’t even take a moment to breathe before he leaves lobot in charge on bespin and sets off with chewie to locate han. he risks his life in the rescue mission with no other goal than to save his friend.
“those were the worst months of my life,” lando said. “bar none. if you think for a second i had a choice in the matter, or that there was a single second during that time that i didn’t hate myself for what i’d done — ” “i don’t,” han admitted. a few moments passed as the stars went spiraling by. “and I know you did what you had to do. you saved way more lives that day than the one you gambled away. including leia’s.” “well,” lando said, “i still felt awful about it.” (p. 291)
when he’s made a general in the rebel alliance, he takes it extremely seriously, even volunteering to lead the attack on the second death star. lando is also the one who pilots directly into the death star’s core and takes it out after the rebels on endor lower the shields.
by the end of jedi, lando is no longer playing a character in the same manner that he once was. the empire’s fall puts him in a position for the first time in his life to discern who he is when he’s not constantly in “fight or flight” mode. and while that’s a little overwhelming, it’s also exciting. he’s ready to continue taking care of cloud city, to work on a legitimate company ( calrissian enterprises ), and maybe even have a romantic relationship eventually that’s based on more than just sex. he’ll always be lando, but he’s finally figuring out more about who that is and what he wants. lando embraces the opportunity to change when it arises, because deep down, he knows who he’s always wanted to be.

Why Are Flat Roofs Used?
You may have observed that flat roofs are greater well-known on industrial buildings than homes, which generally have pitched roofs. You can be wondering what are the motives that so many businesses find flat roofs a higher opportunity to sloped roofs?
Provide More Space
A roof doesn’t ought to simply be a house topper – it may be a leisure region for people to enjoy. Flat roofs can function as rooftop gardens, a place for a barbeque cookout, or an outside space to loosen up. Sometimes swimming swimming pools can even be established on a flat roof.
Aside from getting used as a place to hang out and relax, flat roofs also can be used for storage.
Although flat roofs don’t provide interior storage area, some industrial or industrial homes shop HVAC devices or air flow structures on their flat roofs. A flat roof is also an appropriate roofing fashion if you need to install solar panels.
Affordable
Flat roofs are surprisingly inexpensive in comparison to different roofing styles. Not simplest are the varieties of substances less expensive than materials for sloped roofs, but there is much less floor vicinity to cover than a sloped roof, which saves cash on roofing materials.
Increase Curb Appeal
Because human beings can’t really see a flat roofing from ground stage, it genuinely places a focal point at the structure of the house. A flat roof offsets a home from all of the others round it that have pitched styles.
Flat roofs are a amazing preference for owners looking for roofing with a modern touch, as flat roofs provide homes a swish, modern appearance.
Low Maintenance
Flat roofs are without difficulty handy, which makes them low maintenance and clean to repair.
To smooth a flat roof surface, simply clutch a broom or leaf blower to remove any particles off the roof. You can also use a vacuum to clean off debris. Additional maintenance consists of unclogging the gutter device and trimming again any overhanging tree branches.

Find My Way
Pairing: Simon 'Ghost' Riley x Reader
Summary: Simon comes back after a long deployment, will you let him back in?
Word Count: 1,157
Warnings: Some swearing, potential grammar mistakes, Simon is dumb and handles things immaturely, possibly ooc? Let me know if there's anything I should put.
A/N: listened to Begin by Danny Padilla, had a breakdown, bon appetite
Read it on AO3
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Simon's hand was balled into a fist, hovering over your door. His heart thumped in his chest as he worked up the courage to knock. Maybe he should've called first...
"Here goes nothing." He mutters to himself.
He knocks. Each tap against the wood almost echoes in the hallway of your apartment building.
Moments pass, he hears nothing.
Should he knock again?
Or are you not answering?
Your neighbor still has a wreath hanging on their door, covered in a red ribbon and fake snow, a gleam from the glittery bow kept shining in his eyes. The shine reminding him that it's been a while since his last visit.
The last visit where he admitted he loved you, then he left for half a year.
Tumblr media
Tensions were usually high when it was almost time for Simon to leave. He wasn't ignorant of your concern; it was in every glance, every touch, and every kiss.
He tried telling you that he'll be alright. But he knows it's not enough to quell your worries. His years of tactical training, and years of experience in highly intense combat with ruthless killers pale in comparison when you stare at him with those pleading eyes.
You've been seeing each other for a little over a year, and you didn't mind how cautious Simon was to let you in. In fact, you were relieved about it. You had trouble letting your guard down just like he did, perhaps that's what kept him around.
It just didn't stop you from caring about him.
This would be the second time he's been called back to work. Though the first time he left, he was only gone for 2 months.
This time he's not sure when he'll be back, or if he'll be back.
So he distances himself from you. He went from spending every spare moment at your apartment, to going home alone because he needs to pack, to barely answering the texts you send him. It would make him leaving you easier, right?
Surprise, it doesn't.
He's due to leave in a few hours, he's fully packed and expected to be on the base before dawn. But he can only think of you, you didn't call him when you got off work yesterday, he's mad at himself for being disappointed.
He tells himself that he doesn't really need you, he doesn't need anyone. He can't get attached to people because of his job, it's too dangerous.
So why does his heart ache when he thinks of you?
At that moment, his phone buzzes and lights up, taking him out of his thoughts. It's a text from you.
Is there any way I can see you before you leave?
He stares at the notification, he wants to. He really wants to see you. He unlocks his phone to respond but stops when he sees his background. It's a photo of you when you fell asleep on his couch. It was a couple months into your relationship and the first time you spent the weekend at his place.
He came back with dinner and saw you asleep bundled up with his blankets, you looked so peaceful in his home. Fitting into the corner of his couch like you always belonged there, next thing he knew he had his phone out to take the picture. He didn't want to admit it then, but that was the moment he fell in love with you.
Fuck, he loves you. He loves you and he's been an idiot.
He opens the text and responds, I'm on my way.
He puts his bags in his car and drives to your apartment. He has to see you, just one more time before he's thrown in the rage of war.
On the way there, he's caught by every red light, driving behind the slowest drivers. Fucking hell, he thinks. By the time he parks at your building, its thirty minutes later and he's agitated with the less amount of time he has with you, he just wants to go inside.
Simon unlocks your door with the key you gave him. You shot up from the couch when you heard the door, smoothing your shirt down in a vain attempt to look more presentable.
Simon meets your eyes and pauses, "Sorry it took me so long."
"It's okay," You slowly walk up to him, caution in every step, "You're here now."
"That's not what I mean."
You're inches in front him now, looking up at him with furrowed eyebrows and a slight tilt to your head. "What do you mean?"
In a quick motion, Simon shuts the door and places his hands on your cheeks; his fingers pressing lightly on the base of your neck.
"I'm sorry it took me so long to tell you that I love you."
He rubs his thumb over your cheekbone, leaning in to press his lips against yours. It's soft, patient. You're always so patient with him, you deserve the same treatment.
"Simon—" You place your hands on his forearms, "Where is this coming from? You love me?"
He rests his forehead against yours, "I do, is that alright?"
You let out a giggle, "Of course."
You only have a few hours with him, and you know it's going to break your heart to watch him leave. But you just can't help yourself.
"Of course, it's alright, because I love you too."
Simon gives you the biggest smile you've ever seen from him, and he's going to spend the next few hours showing you just how much he loves you.
Tumblr media
Simon bows his head and sighs, it's been five minutes and you haven't answered.
He begins walking down the hallway with his eyes cast down. He presses the button to call the elevator.
It takes a few moments, but the doors open and he hears a gasp. He looks up and his eyes widen when sees you standing there with bags of groceries in your arms.
You hurriedly step off the elevator, "You're back."
Hearing your voice again releases the tension he's felt in his chest for the last seven months, you place the groceries on the ground and wrap your arms around his shoulders. The scent of your perfume fills his nose and he almost breaks down then and there. He missed that smell, he missed you.
He holds you tight against him, fearing that if he let you go you would fade away.
"You should've called." You whisper in his ear, and he chuckles.
"I know." He kisses your temple, "I know, I'm sorry it took me so long."
You unwrap yourself from him, "Come on home, Simon." Your voice is as soft as ever, and you're beaming at him. "I was just about to make dinner."
He picks up the groceries and lets you lead the way. When he finally enters your apartment, he's never been so sure he's exactly where he's supposed to be.
Find my way.
In the skyline tonight,
You're the better view.
Do you mind if I stay?
When the highlight of life
Might begin with you.

We are approaching another zenith. And it is gigantic it is the superior conjunction of Saturn which is my planet. And it is a massive massive undertaking. It is such a large undertaking that we have barely scratched the surface and we might not make the deadline for a huge job at hand. And what he says is true that we need to be working on this orbs and wholeheartedly and we need our troops and we need tons of them and I'm calling hours to arms there's only one month left ever running low already on a regular daily routine here. Is getting to be a desperate situation and now I see what he's saying this is a huge undertaking and we have to focus on so many things and these idiots are distraction however necessary regard to have to do some drastic measures I believe
Hera
I do see the problem it's been coming up pretty quick and here it is and he says that if you move the Earth and it ignites we could be in a lot of trouble and it's actually true because of friction or static or other so you have to make safe all of the orbs and I'll remove them I've been working fast to do it and there are a lot of them huge numbers and they're quite sizeable by comparison and I understand that our people don't understand completely what we're doing with them and I have to make it clear to them and he's saying on a different channel and I agree what's the point so we will do so and hopefully that will help. Otherwise we don't have a handle on it and it won't happen again for 2 years and really it is a major undertaking and this war is going a lot slower than an anticipated and it is much more dangerous than we thought it probably will have a different pace and feeling safer there nuts. So we are looking at this window I want to do with it and their ships are basically junk so just leave them there he says it's not that much metal by comparison. There's several things I want to do and the first is to award him a medal for what he's trying to think of I do understand what he's saying there has to be a way and there is and he's mentioning it and he thinks of a safer way he says I agree with something this is going to be awesome and they did not form in the planet and they're not as deep as people think and removing them as intelligent and that's what we should do and he says that would probably need to Shell off and we probably do and then with that we can control anything might happen with the Giants and with Jaeger and maybe proceed but we need devices from here and I'm going to look into it. We do understand what he's asking too it's like a puzzle how does something come out if that needs to come out first and it would be second other ways to do it and we need to work on that but there are definite needs I definitely issues. Unless we remove it and it would not be big enough from each and she would have to remove Harris there's definitely large enough and it's what we need for the task. We are a little bit behind but you can see we're probably working up here and that would be The fleets for our people who are not on Earth as well. So you slide out and do the job, the real question is do you need to take the shell off and he says we can experiment with that and we should and the proper testing and get it done now in order to be ready at the same place and we acknowledge that's pretty smart so I'm putting it in now for approval
Zig Zag
What the hell that was weird and started off the day feeling good then you said that I feel bad I felt bad about it for a while then I said that to them they said I don't think we can do that, they mentioned the shell so now we're doing testing and I've seen it work and they do say why so I have to tell you it's not a bad idea and we're going to go ahead and start working on that and we have a huge number of orbs to work on. It's coming up momentarily and I'll tell you what we need these Galactus immediately and the Harvesters. Raise I'm here and they raised a huge ones. And where at work
Hera
I brought it up and I have most likely a foolproof method as usual I don't think we should have a meeting no we should and get together and I'll lay it out of where is you'll see little work and we can run all the testing today and it's a huge program and she's initializing it she says. It's expedient but we need to do it we need a force and we needed to be ours I'm going to express that too in the meeting.
Zues
I'm really getting some confidence here but no that's how I'm in our boys and I don't want to do it and I need to get this project going I knew about the idea and I know it'll work and I know we need monsters and some of them are quite huge I know what he's talking about too and how to do it and a lot of those piles went somewhere it will use it and it's going to be fine I'm going to draw up a schedule and according to the message that we're doing our cadre. And I'm going to have a Manning chart and how many people we need and and more for the entire event which is 2 weeks long after that it's over so let's get a move on and yeah this is some hefty work okay Morrison Knudsen could not handle one of the projects
Hera
We're meeting momentarily
And it's a good job Zeus and I do see what you're saying that's a good test he says you should have some sizable ones although it's large enough to be an issue and we do have some that are huge but not that huge it will take some time and I do agree with you and I'm going to put that in the pipe right now and we do have others but we will raise him you see what we can and we can use uranium we need to do this faster it's taking way too long way too much fuel
Thor Freya you say to test it on the real thing after we do some testing in order to do so we have to have it ready and that would be having her ready that is
I agree with this approach there's no other way to do it it's way too slow it takes too much time and there's no way to control a reaction if it happens and we do need it for this kind of experiment and we need it now
Nuada Arrianna
There's a huge number of people when they're going to say are people should be aware this is part of our plan and you're part of it and you need to sign on immediately and we need the help these people are not to know when we're saying it because for some reason you're not listening it's absolutely true we're competing with these people and they sort of know about it a lot of them know okay

ok so like i been Thinkin a lot on that stream techno had today and i may be Thinkin Too Much cuz i was doing psychology while watching but im going to say Words Now
the entire idea and Plot of tommy going from only interacting/being manipulated by dream to only interacting with techno is a Lot. theres a lot here. and i am feasting like a fucking king on the potential of it and what this could all Mean
I think we’re building up the idea of how techno and dream differ and how they house both similarities and extreme differences in their ideals.
So if we considered how Tommy’s arcs have changed theres a very, VERY clear juxtaposition between the exile arc to.... raccoon arc? whatever the fuck is goin on
Tommy Was manipulated, isolated, and gaslit by dream. that was the only guy he really had interacted with and that was Intentional entirely. Its very obvious this will have and currently has an affect on tommy.
Now, he’s with technoblade. theres a lot of shit that can be read in this simply as considered right now. I feel we’re clearly supposed to at least somehow compare dream and technoblade because their positions are somewhat similar concerning how they are interacting with tommy.
Tommy can only really interact with techno, only techno really has the ability to see him (although ranboo, ghostbur, and phil could see him but theres obvious difficulties in their case), and how tommy regards technoblade is.... complicated. like how he regards dream at the moment.
but theres some really, really important and clear differences in this that i think will show a lot about techno’s character and what’s to come
first of all, there’s a question of why techno is seemingly ‘letting’ tommy live with him. No joke, i’ve discussed this a LOT in the technocord and it’s made me realize it from a different perspective since many of those people in there are from Before techno joined the smp.
so, there’s no clear ‘rational’ reason why techno would benefit from teaming with tommy. there’s some arguments that could be made; tommy’s position with people and especially tubbo, using tommy as a bargaining chip with dream, and something else i cant remember. but the technocord hardcore ppl feel tommy is a liability in the long term. techno doesn’t really have much to gain beyond a distraction. the idea of using tommy in order to convince him he’s getting the disks and then to destroy lmanberg is kinda.... its jus more trouble to techno. In fact, it wouldve been defendable for techno to kick him out; he stole his stuff, and we saw how he reacted to his cows being killed, his previous base being pillaged. You’d have thought techno wouldve been angrier.
but like. that aside. there’s little reason for techno to open up to tommy. and thats the point.
there’s no necessity on techno’s part. he doesnt need tommy. he could kick him out easily. but he won’t.
I imagine technoblade sees the trauma and hardship tommy went through and he sympathizes with him. Its been made clear that techno doesnt know the full extent of what happened, but he doesnt need to. he knows enough.
Now, back to the happenings of the last stream,
it wasnt plot heavy at all. (mostly because techno’s fuckign glasses are held together with SCOTCH TAPE the guy couldnt even fucking use ducttape i hate that) but there were a Few interesting things, including the Plot Stream a bit;
the ‘box’ techno made with the idea of hiding tommy from dream. (perhaps a joke but it still shows something i feel)
how he’s been giving tommy a Lot of stuff. he hasnt Genuinely been upset at his golden apples being taken; in fact, techno gave him more food in protest of him eating all the gapples instead of.... demanding them back
went mining in the nether with the intention of getting tommy better stuff
he replaced the log he accidentally stripped. extremely funny considering he got the wrong type of wood but he tried
expending more resources on tommy with invisibility potions so that he wasnt in danger of being seen
Repeatedly would assure tommy that dream Is Not His Friend.
at the idea of tommy being ‘banned’ from the nether and being attacked in lmanberg, techno laughed at the idea of him being ‘attacked’ and killed even when tommy worried that he’d die for the Last Time
implicated that techno WOULD defend him. and the idea of someone killing Either him or tommy was funny because of that
okay so slight comparison to dream; techno is instead GIVING tommy resources instead of blowing them up, he’s obviously intent on protecting him in some way, and he assures tommy that dream is No Good (rather than how dream was telling tommy no one cared about him)
But there’s one instance that was really, really important to me
the control room had a very bad impact on tommy. most likely a panic attack (the shaking, heavy breathing, scattered speech/thought is something i know so intimately lmao) and techno’s reaction to it was extremely interesting.
first, techno said he was ‘freaking out for no reason’ which could be a) techno is horrific at emotions and vulnerability lmao and b) to Him, it Is nothing. he has no clue what tommy had been through.
He repeatedly asked what was wrong. what had happened in that room. He pressed Slightly. but as soon as tommy said he didnt want to talk about that, techno instantly backed off and said its alright. specifically, he said:
“It’s fine, no one recovers in a day tommy. Healing is a long process, it’s fine.”
that shit hit me like a freight train. Mostly i didnt expect anything to come from this stream like that but FUCK LMAO.
The biggest thing is, i think technoblade is going to help tommy heal from the dream shit and get back on his feet.
but also, even though im not entirely sure i need to see more, tommy will get techno to be more caring. We know philza is the only one techno is really close to, and ghostbur as well. both of which either weren’t involved in betraying techno, or doesnt remember it. i see it pointed out that techno is going at tubbo and his government rather than dream, but i think it makes sense.
dream technically hasnt challenged techno’s ideals or what he wants; while tubbo stole from him, used him as a weapon, and reinstated a government despite everything techno was saying.
Tommy took part in betraying him, thats without a doubt. but tommy was also screwed over by the government in place. so techno empathizes with him. maybe they dont fully trust each other, but thats a work in progress. and it will progress to technoblade trusting tommy despite their past, and realizing that dream is in a position of power over Everyone.
tl:dr: tommy is going to heal with techno’s help and full come to terms with/realize what dream did to him, and techno is going to realize he CAN trust people and that dream has been the one pulling the strings all along
