桜魔大戦譚 (ōma taisen tan) - story and character basics

VΔLZ fandom, hello! So far I have not seen any English translations of the story chapters that VΔLZ is releasing little by little on YouTube. This post is to establish some background info.

----- Explanation of the title -----

大戦譚 (taisen tan) sounds poetic and grand, and I favor translating it as "Great War Chronicles."

大 = big/great/important 戦 = war/battle/combat 譚 = tales/lore/legends/etc., a classier word for 'story'

Therefore, my translation of the title is: "Ouma Great War Chronicles"

Side note: I've seen the name of VΔLZ's home nation translated as both Ouma Empire and Ouma Kingdom. These are both accurate; however, I'd like to add that the word 皇国 (kōkoku) literally means 'emperor nation' and implies a government structure with an emperor or similar royalty at the top.

----- Story setting, directly translated from the opening narration in episode 1. -----

In the place called the Ouma Empire, there exist People, Gods, and Demons.

"People," referring to humankind; "Gods," referring to the beings who, gaining power through people's faith, bring benefit to people; and "Demons," referring to the beings who cause harm to people.

Such was the Ouma Empire, which at a certain time, was struck with natural disasters and epidemics, famines and so on, an array of catastrophes.

In the rebuilding of the nation, the era was renamed "Shinwa." Borrowing power from Gods, People exorcised Demons and the nation was resurrected.

Suppose, when Demons should appear, and nothing can be done with the People's power alone; The People pray and make offerings to the Gods, seeking peace.

In answer, the Gods grant them wisdom and talismans and such. Thus, under the protection of the Gods, People exorcise Demons, and the nation shall be maintained.

In this way, the Ouma Empire's People, Gods, and Demons came to coexist in balance and comprise the nation.

And so, the fifth year of the Shinwa Era – The present

T/N: 神和 (shinwa) breaks down into: 神 - god/heavenly/divine/etc. 和 - peace/calm/harmony

Kaida Haru - "A researcher at an institution of the Ouma Empire who studies Demons. He takes pride in his brilliant analytical skills and knowledge, however, has a calm and somewhat airheaded personality." Vertical text: "Great innovations come with risks, that's a given."

Nagao Kei - "An exorcist at an institution of the Ouma Empire. Not only is he a master in swordsmanship and martial arts, but also in magic and sealing spells. He commands a large number of excellent subordinates." Vertical text: "The wicked will perish by my hand. Both demons and humans alike!"

Genzuki Tōjirō - "A government official of the Ouma Empire. He may converse and negotiate with the Gods. Soft-spoken, he excels in preventing conflict with his crisis management skills." Vertical text: "Again with the Gods' selfish requests... Can't be helped, leave this to me."

The story does not represent the history prior to their debut as streamers and will have no relation to their current activities as streamers. Please consider it a parallel world where they stayed in their old jobs in the Ouma Empire.

The split between the VΔLZ members and the characters they voice is further denoted by the character names. They are using the same surnames, but their given names have been changed to hiragana.

1. Ryuji has played Sasuke since 2015. He, along with Ito Yui (Haruno Sakura) and Kimisawa Yuki (Hatake Kakashi), are the members in the current cast who have been with the "Live Spectacle NARUTO" (Narusute) since the beginning.

2. Ryuji's audition for Narusute was nine hours long.

3. Before auditions, Ryuji asked Matsuoka Koudai (Uzumaki Naruto) to teach him acrobatics (likely because Koudai had done acrobatics during "Musical The Prince of Tennis" (Tenimyu), but neither one of them knew that they were auditioning for the same production until they met at the Narusute auditions.

4. Ryuji (Uchiha Sasuke), Koudai (Uzumaki Naruto) and Kimi-chan (Hatake Kakashi) were in Tenimyu in 2013/2014. Then, they were cast in Narusute as Team 7.

5. Ryuji (Uchiha Sasuke) was inspired to enter the entertainment world by Suga Kenta (Gaara).

6. During the final round of Narusute auditions, Ryuji, Kenta and an unnamed actor competed for the roles of Sasuke and Gaara. Both Ryuji and Kenta read for both Sasuke and Gaara.

7. In an interview during the "Live Spectacle NARUTO (Narusute) ~Uzumaki Naruto Monogatari~" (2021), Ryuji said that Uchiha Sasuke has become something like "his other self". He also said that he and Sasuke have a similar personality, and that he can empathise with Sasuke.

8. Fujita Ray (Yamato / Tenzou) about Ryuji's passion for 2.5D, which he experienced when they co-starred together in the "Live Spectacle NARUTO (Narusute) ~Akatsuki no Shirabe~" (2017):

9. Ryuji does his own makeup for Uchiha Sasuke.

10. When Nakao Masaki (Uzumaki Naruto) joined the cast, Ryuji was the only one of Team 7 who knew Nakao-kun before Narusute. He and Nakao-kun have known each other for longer than even Ryuji and Kimi-chan (Hatake Kakashi).

11. Ryuji and Kitazono Ryo (Namikaze Minato) are close friends who have known each other since 2015. According to Ryo, "Ryuji is the person I’m [he] closest to, so I think [it would be nice] if we [they] are able to remain in such a relationship." Ryo has also said this:

12. When Narusute transitioned into a new phase with Nakao-kun taking over the role of Uzumaki Naruto and responsibility of new company leader from Koudai, Ryuji (Uchiha Sasuke) supported him by helping him to pull the company along.

Ryuji was also featured in major promotions with Nakao-kun (Uzumaki Naruto) and Ryo (Namikaze Minato) for the "Live Spectacle NARUTO (Narusute) ~Uzumaki Naruto Monogatari~" (2021).

In the "Live Spectacle NARUTO (Narusute) ~Ninkai Taisen, Kaisen~" (2022), Ryuji (Uchiha Sasuke) was given the honour of leading the final bow alongside Nakao-kun.

13. When talking about Ryuji in the "Live Spectacle NARUTO (Narusute) ~Ninkai Taisen, Kaisen~" (2022), Naya Takeru (Gaara) called Ryuji (Uchiha Sasuke) the "King of Narusute" and said, "It is thanks to Ryuji and the others from the first performance that it [the production has connected to the current performance, and I am able to meet with it."

Naya-kun also referred to Uchiha Sasuke (Ryuji) as "the other main character who is a pair with Naruto".

NOTE: Others from the first Narusute are Yui (Haruno Sakura) and Kimi-chan (Hatake Kakashi).

14. In an interview during the "Live Spectacle NARUTO ~Uzumaki Naruto Monogatari~" (2021), Kodama Akiko (director for Narusute) talked about how, no matter how tough the action stunts were and how much he struggled with them, Ryuji (Uchiha Sasuke) would never complain.

She added that, if she was an actor, she might have said no to all these things that have nothing to do with acting, like the aerial performance that Ryuji (Uchiha Sasuke) had to do in the "Live Spectacle NARUTO" (Narusute) 2015/2016. But, Ryuji never said no.

To quote Kodama-san, "It's likely because he thinks that it [the stunts] are necessary for the production, necessary in expressing the character of (Uchiha) Sasuke, necessary in expressing what it's like to be a ninja."

15. The stunts in the "Live Spectacle NARUTO" (Narusute) are so difficult that Ryuji (Uchiha Sasuke) has texted his parents to apologise if he dies doing them.

Regresando a la nueva normalidad… un mundo ¿Diferente?, no sé a ustedes pero a mí me costó volver a la rutina. El mundo no tiene un mejor panorama, parece que en diferentes partes del mundo está reinando el caos y precisamente aquellos que deberían preservarla, son sus agentes. Repito lo mismo del año pasado, es una época que nos invita a ser empáticos, a valorar el conocimiento, a respetar a las personas y no subestimar el poder de las artes y que éstas no pierdan su norte por querer ajustarse a una agenda políticamente correcta. Hey would you be willing to explain what juni taisen is

oh absolutely!!! juuni taisen is basically this light novel series about 12 warriors (soldiers, assassins, mercenaries, etc) that gathered together to go into this battle royale death match competition called the juuni taisen/zodiac war, which happens every 12 years, and the sole winner has the opportunity to wish for whatever they desire.

the novel explores like….each diff character’s perspective and motivations n battle styles within each chapter n gives everyone a chance to shine, so everyone is the mc in a way. it flips the battle royale formula around by focusing more on the characters as people rather than the action and fighting. i personally view it sorta like a deconstruction/subversion of the genre

its been one of my fave series for a while!! it also has an anime n manga adaptation, but i strongly recommend reading the novel if you’re interested in getting into it!! ^^

Мы с моими пупсиками @shitty-sweetie-honey-bastard и @maksi-m решили устроить декабрьский челлендж по просмотру аниме, а то я его не смотрела (страшно признаться) 2 года 😰

Короче, все выбрали по два тайтла и мы составили список того, что посчитали интересным. Я начала с просмотра этого аниме и не пожалела ни минуты.

Оно довольно интересное, много боёв, странные и необычные персонажи и хорошая рисовка. Конечно я топила за быка, но мне также понравились крыс и безумный кроля (теперь я их шиперю ахахах 🤣). Думаю всерьёз над покупкой манги ибо там шикарная рисовка ❤️

Жаль, что по этому аниме нет фигурок, а то мой кошелёк явно бы стал тоньше 😅

There was a 'put in the tags' post requesting people put in the tags a villain with a "good reason" to be evil...and I just thought that seems very subjective and also how can I just choose one...so I am gonna just ramble a little about some of my favourite villains/antagonists and why I like them so much :D (link to the 'in the tags' post here)

Not every villain needs a tragic backstory or a 'sympathetic' motivation, and I think you'll find that very few of my favourites actually do. It's 2023. Let the villains be actually evil. Potential for spoilers ahead.

These are not listed in any particular order; just listing them as I think of them:

Ursula (from The Little Mermaid)

I love Ursula. She's just so unapologetically herself. The only time she changes herself to fit 'societal norms' is to trick the prince. And even then, she isn't doing it out of lust for him or to fill some sort of need to fit in; she's doing it as a means to an end, that 'end' being having Ariel to use as a hostage against Triton. This lady is cunning, she is confident, and she takes what she wants. I loved her as much in the cartoon as I do in the recent live action movie; both versions were good. (whether you like the makeup or not, I don't care, the live-action Ursula was hilarious). She gets the trident, the power over the seas, and what is the First Thing she does? Tries to smite Ariel because she hates her, and also Ariel is the reason her beloved eels perished. Ursula wants immediate revenge. Love that for her. She has her priorities.

The Sheriff of Nottingham (from Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves)

He's played by Alan Rickman. That's it. That's the reason. LOL. I mean, I love the way that Mr. Rickman brought the character to life, I loved the comedy, the dry and dark humour he brings to the role. I just really love it. And he looked very handsome as the Sheriff, I must say. Also, the Sheriff's death scene always kinda makes me giggle just because it is So Drawn Out. Like, my dude. Die already!!!! But nope, gotta stumble around the Entire Tower Room first.

Eddie Gluskin (from Outlast: Whistleblower)

Eddie is, by the time Waylon Park stumbles across him, completely deranged, completely twisted, completely unhinged. He is running around chasing other prisoners to take them as 'brides', and cutting off the parts of them he doesn't desire. He makes a wedding dress. He has a tailored suit that he *wears*. He sings songs that he likely learned in his childhood, about marriage and love. Now, if there's one thing I love, it's a villain with a THEME. Also, this man did all this within the span of hours. HOURS. That is some crazy productivity...like holy shit. I know people who do less over the course of an entire week; AND get paid for it. Eddie was like 'hold up I got this' and prepared a wedding while doing some..."art"... on the side.

Usagi (from Juuni Taisen: Zodiac War)

Similar to Eddie, Usagi is just. Wild. A beast. I mean, it makes sense. He's in a 12-man battle royale where the winner gains whatever wish they desire. We don't get much on backstory for Usagi but I honestly think that's just fine. You can tell from his appearance and several of his voice lines that he hasn't had many friends...but when he kills the corpses reanimate and are completely under his control. "Friends" that can never run away. It's kind of fascinating to me, that he has so many trust issues he can't fathom having any friends that he can't 100% control. Also, he is in the skimpiest bunny outfit, complete with a giant tail to store his swords in, and stiletto heels. Iconic shit.

Sukuna (from JJK)

What I like about Sukuna is he is so evil and ready to kill and destroy...aaaaand he's stuck in the body of a teen who can somewhat limit his abilities and keep him locked away for the most part. Gotta love that frustration. Also, even though Yuuji has Sukuna inside him, they undoubtedly talk a lot, and pretty much have to be civil to each other...Sukuna still does not give Any Fucks about Yuuji's happiness. The cruel reminder comes when Sukuna refuses to save Junpei (My Baby!!!!😭😭😭), and honestly despite the fact it made me cry, I absolutely respect the writing that has a villain stand by his convictions. Don't get me wrong, I am a SUCKER, for character development and the villain becoming part of the Found Family whether they like it or not (which is how I write Sukuna in The Bar AU), but I also love and adore when a writer will Go There and be like "Yeah, no, you're not changing this guy so easily. He's evil." (I am nowhere near caught up with the manga but so far in my current observations this remains to be very true).

Azula (from Avatar: The Last Airbender)

This girl is so iconic. I love her methods. I love the outward confidence and the crazy consequences she doles out that are really just hiding a scared young girl with a perfection complex. I love that we get a such a rounded character; that we as the audience see her fail at flirting, see her lose her temper over trivial things, see her enjoy a day AT THE BEACH?! UNIRONICALLY???? Azula is just such a great character. When she loses her battle at the end and goes batshit spitting fire while bound...My heart. It aches for her. Even though I think she needs a whole lotta counselling. Truly.

The witches (from Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters)

I like the witches because they are just. Evil. (yes I know there's a 'good witch' in the story, but I'm not talking about her right now). I like that they fully commit to the evil. They feast on children. They kill without remorse. They cast disgusting and foul curses that cause some really gross gory scenes. I just like that return to a character who is just Evil and will never be good or be persuaded under any circumstances to act good. I thought, in an era of "pretty" witches who all seem to be "morally grey" at worst, it was fun and refreshing to have a witch just go "Nah, I want to eat a child" again.

Those are some of the ones I can think of right now. I just wanted to ramble a little about them. :D

So what exactly is “Tokyo Taisen ~Hana to Sakura*~,” the new project announced at CRETA SUMMIT 2022 with Hiroi Ouji in attendance? Hopefully we’ll know soon. The fact that the developer seems to be involved with NFTs isn’t terribly exciting, but we’ll see.

*the “sakura” here is written in kanji (桜), as opposed to Sakura Taisen, where it’s usually written in katakana (サクラ)

[NEWS UPDATE] Live Spectacle NARUTO: Resumption of Performances for the "Live Spectacle NARUTO ~Ninkai Taisen, Kaisen~" and Sales of New Random Clear Cards have been Announced

The "Live Spectacle NARUTO ~Ninkai Taisen, Kaisen~", which had been scheduled to start on September 17, 2022 had cancelled the performances for their first Tokyo leg due to an infection of COVID-19 in the cast and crew. In total 12 performances were cancelled.

It has been announced that the production will resume performances on October 01, 2022 in Hyogo!

Along with the opening of the production in Hyogo, it has also been announced that new random clear cards will be made available for purchase.

Sales Date: October 01, 2022

Sales Time: 12.00 (Japan time)

Price: 300 yen

The clear cards will be made available at the start of the sales time and date. Meanwhile, the other goods from the production can also be found at the links below.

It was rush rush rush all the way this season ugh.

Autumn Post-mortem first of all:

God Tier: Hoseki no Kuni, Netoju no Susume, Kekkai Sensen Awesome Possum: 3gatsu no Lion S2, Ballroom e Yokoso, Kino no Tabi, Mahoyome Pleasing but not Amazing: Shokoku no Altair, Soma S3, Love Kome, Osake Fuufu, Guruguru, Yokai Apartment OK OK lah: Fate/Apocrypha, Just Because, Omiai Aite, Girls’ Last Tour, Code Realize Shite: 12 Taisen How did I survive this: Taisho Chicchai-san, Osama Game Dropped, cos it’s xmas: Kujisuna, Hozuki S2, Osomatsu S2
