Summary:
When Ladybug brings some of the old magazines she used to read as a teenager to a sleepover with Chat Noir, they end up doing an 'Adrien Agreste compatibility test', something that she has done more than once as a teenager.
There's no way her partner could beat her at it and get a higher score than her. No way.

* * * * *
Ladybug looked around the room at the mess she and Chat Noir had left from the evening before. Scattered UNO cards on the table, empty glasses and half empty bottles of wine and cider, a plate with only three or four cookies left, and abandoned game controllers on ottomans in front of the small TV.
They always left a mess when they had a sleepover together; always because they went to bed way too late and were too tired to clean it all.
She loved that.
She turned her head to look at her partner half-sitting beside her on the sofa bed. The sheets were pulled up his waist, and he was wearing a dark grey t-shirt v-neck as a pajama that suited him particularly well. She herself was wearing a red with tiny black polka-dots tank top, and a pair of small black pajama shorts.
Chat Noir was smiling at whatever he was reading on his phone. Ladybug propped her head on his shoulder, but kept her gaze away from the device.
“What are you looking at?”
He kept silent a few seconds, still grinning, before answering. “I told my best friend about what my supervisor said to me yesterday. He’s telling me he’s gonna buy an electric racket for mosquitoes and slap him with it.”
Ladybug chuckled. “I like your friend.”
Chat Noir was doing an internship somewhere in the city, and while it seemed like he enjoyed it, his supervisor sounded everything but kind to him. Something Ladybug couldn’t understand, knowing how nice her partner was.
“I thought you would,” he replied, turning his phone off and putting it on the nightstand.
After defeating Hawkmoth four years ago, Ladybug and Chat Noir had both taken a break to focus on their studies. He had been somewhere abroad from what she gathered; she had studied in another city. Now they were both back in Paris and had been for a year; a new threat needing the heroes had arisen.
It had been good to see her partner and best friend again after all this time, a deliverance of sorts. Being older opened up to a lot more freedom than they had as young teenagers: they were more lenient regarding their identities, for one. Ladybug even offered more than once to reveal each other, but Chat Noir told her he was not quite ready yet. It had surprised her a lot, but if he needed time, she would let him take it.
Still, it hadn’t kept them from getting even closer than they used to be.
Ladybug wished they could be even closer. She suspected that Chat Noir probably did, too, yet neither of them pushed for it. The very comfortable friendship they had now established was both a blessing and a curse in that regard.
While it was easier for her to stay at her parent’s house for now, Chat Noir had had a new personal studio. It wasn’t big; just the kind of place you’d expect from any average student having to rent a far too expensive place for what it was, courtesy of living in Paris—but it was enough. It was great to plot against their enemy… or for sleepovers, a habit they had taken soon after he got it.
Chat Noir looked at the pile of old magazines she had brought—they were the ones she read as a teenager, the ones she gossiped about with Alya during their sleepovers. She had thought it could be fun to try that with him, even if they were definitely not up to date.
“We forgot to read those!” he exclaimed, getting up.
She watched as he closed his eyes to pick one at random, and brought it back to the bed.
“Which one did you get?”
“Let’s see… oooh, ‘Clara Rossignole is looking for a Ladybug and a Chat Noir for her next music video’”, he read aloud. “Wow. How old is that stuff?”
“Er, I think I must have been fifteen or something so… Seven years old?”
“Amazing! Exactly what I need to keep up with the latest juicy gossip!” He grinned.
Ladybug laughed and leaned on his shoulder to have a better look at the magazine. She remembered that one with this cover very well, it was the one where there was a personality test about—
“‘How compatible are you with teen model Adrien Agreste’, page 21.” Chat Noir fake-gasped. “Spiiicy! Let’s do it!”
As he opened the magazine, Ladybug hoped that it wouldn’t be too obvious to see how easy it was to find the page right away. Despite the years that had passed, the page was still bearing the marks of having been opened and opened again and stared at for far too long, more than any other.
If he noticed, Chat Noir chose not to comment.
He grabbed a four-coloured pen on his nightstand. “Wow, my Lady, that’s a lot of ink on there! We can barely see the little symbols in front of the answers.”
Well. She had had to take the test more than once to get a better score. She’d been aiming for a hundred percent compatibility, a hundred-and-one if she was lucky, or over-compatible—as she should have been back then according to herself.
Not that she would admit that to him.
“I had done it with friends. That’s why it’s so… inky.”
Chat Noir hummed, suspicious, but didn’t push further.
“And it doesn’t work with symbols, it’s a points system. So we can’t cheat,” she added.
She would know. She had tried.
He snorted. “You remember this surprisingly well, Buguinette.”
She didn’t comment on that very accurate observation. Instead, she dropped a kiss on his cheek.
“Why do you want to do that test anyway?”
“Because it’s fun! And to see if I can get a better score than you,” he said.
She scoffed. “As if you would win! I’m unbeatable at this.”
That made him snicker. “Unlike with UNO?”
She glared at him at that and pulled her head away from his shoulder. He brought her back with an arm around her, and kissed her temple apologetically.
She begrudgingly accepted the kiss. Very begrudgingly. (She couldn’t help but smile at the contact of his lips).
(She also couldn’t help but snuggle closer to him).
“So,” Chat Noir went on, “what do we have for the first question… Oooh, ‘which colour is your favourite? Green, Blue, Pink or Red?’,” he raised a brow. “That’s not a lot of choices in my opinion.”
“Blue,” Ladybug automatically answered.
Chat Noir snorted. “No, yours is pink Bugacheat, I know that well enough,” and he circled the answer in red. “However, mine is blue.”
“Maybe I changed favourite colour.”
“No, you didn’t,” he replied flatly. She pouted. “Next question. ‘What is your favourite season?’”
Ladybug pondered. She liked all seasons, after all; they each had their charm.
“Can’t we pick all of them?”
“Well, apparently you can’t because, according to this very accurate magazine, Adrien Agreste has only one favourite season.”
“Write ‘autumn’, then,” she decided.
He circled it in red for her, and circled spring in green for him.
“Okay, ‘how many times do you blink in the span of a minute? Fifteen, eighteen, twenty or twenty-two”, he frowned. “Where did they even get these information?”
“They have very good sources.”
“Sure,” he snorted. “Does Adrien Agreste himself even know the answer to that?”
“Well, of course, it’s in the magazine,” she laughed.
She knew it couldn’t really be trusted, but she liked to take these facts as straight science when she was younger.
“God, these tests are so bad,” Chat Noir shook his head. “How is that suppose to tell you if you’re compatible with him or not?”
“Hey! Don’t criticise my magazine or you’ll offend mini-me!”
“Well, Babybug, I think the questions from your magazine are dumb. And I’m answering… I don’t know... eighteen maybe?”
“Put twenty-two for me,” she said proudly.
She remembered the answer corresponding to Adrien’s to that question, but he didn’t need to know that.
They went on like that through the rest of the test, from morning routine to favourite scent—“Ew, why are one of the answers camembert?”— and gut reaction when faced with an akuma—“you would jump off of a building, Kitty”.  Ladybug tried to answer what ‘Adrien’ would do instead of herself, and Chat Noir corrected her each time—“I choose passion fruits!” - “there’s a reason you always take strawberry ice-creams, my Lady. You can’t fool me!” — until they arrived at the end of the test.
“Aaaaand I’ve got a score of…” Chat Noir paused, looking and calculating the results, “eighty-six percent! While you, on the other hand, despite trying to cheat on at least five questions—”
“Hey!”
“—have a score of… Aw, only forty-one!”
“What?!” Ladybug all but screamed.
“Ah, yes, it looks like I beat you Buguinette!” The little shit sounded so proud with himself.
“There’s no way your score is higher than mine,” she said, snatching the magazine from his hands and scrupulously recounting the points herself.
There was no way, indeed.
And yet.
Chat Noir knew how to count, alright. Ladybug was silently fuming.
No, it didn’t matter anymore whether she was compatible with her old crush or not. And yes, the magazine was probably incorrect anyway.
And sure, Adrien was twenty-two now, not fifteen, so his answers would probably not be the same anymore, but still.
She had to defend young-Marinette’s honour.
And in honour of young-Marinette’s past struggles and unconditional love, there was no way Chat Noir of all people could be more compatible with Adrien than herself.
Chat Noir’s laughters brought her out of her shocked horror.
“Aw, don’t pull that face, Bugachups, sometimes you win, sometimes you lose! Maybe you’ll beat me to the next! Say, they don’t have a compatibility test with Chat Noir by any chan—”
“You cheated.” She stated it calmly but coldly. She had to be calm about it. “You must have.”
Chat Noir guffawed. “I’m not you! Also why so upset? Afraid I ruined your chances with…” he took the magazine back from her hands to read the caption under the test’s title, “...Paris’ favourite teenage boy?” He frowned. “Hey, shouldn’t that have been me at the tim—”
“No, I’m not afraid of anything like that,” she grumbled. “It’s just that… I used to know everything there was to know about Adrien Agreste back in the day.”
He blinked. “Everything?!”
“Everything,” she repeated. “Also, I don’t need to do a Chat Noir compatibility test to know that I’d get a hundred percent at it.”
He snickered. “I sure do hope that you’d get a higher score with me than that poor forty-one percent.”
She hit him with her pillow. For making fun of her, and for not having taken the bait.
“Yes,” she insisted, “I’d have a better score and I’d get the highest, thank you very much.”
He gently pinched and squished her cheeks while nuzzling his nose against hers teasingly. “Aaaww, of course we would be the most compatible Buguichou, we’re made for each other!”
Better.
Still, they had become so comfortable with each other now that it could mean everything and nothing.
“Chat Noooiiiiir,” she whined in lieu of pushing further, “stop annoying me!”
He released her and laughed. “You love it when I annoy you!”
Yes.
“No.”
He snorted and shook his head. “Anyway.” He wiggled his eyebrows. “What was it about you knowing everything there was to know about teen model, Paris' darling extraordinaire Adrien Agreste?”
She groaned. “Please can we not?”
“No. I want to know more about the boy I’m eighty-six percent compatible with, Bugaboo! And who better to teach me all I need to know other than the finest expert you aaaaar—”
She snatched the magazine back from his hands and swatted him with it.
“You’re” —swat— “not” —swat— “more compatible than me” —hit— “with Adrien” she had him pinned on the bed and he was giggling, trying and failing to push her away, “because I had the biggest crush” —swat— “on him and I was” —swat— “in love with him, do you understand?”
She stopped hitting him to throw him her deadliest look.
“Wait, what?” he said, still grinning from the fight. “You were in love with him like… in love love?”
She crossed her arms. “Yes, I was in love love with him.”
He snorted. And then, slowly, his body shook more and more, the laughters coming from him getting louder and louder.
“You—,” he choked, raising a finger in her direction, “you were in love with Adrien Agreste when we were fifteen.”
She sighed. “Yes, I was in love with Adrien Agreste. Go on, laugh all you want, ‘ha-ha-ha, Ladybug was in love with Hawkmoth’s son, ha-ha,’ so funny.”
“Oh my god, yes, Ladybug in love with our enemy’s son,” he kept laughing. “Waaait, wait wait, hold on, that’s excellent but… when you told me you were in love with someone else, back then…”
Her stomach fluttered at the memory that yes, Chat Noir used to be in love with her.
“...Does that mean that he was the boy you were referring to?” he looked at her expectantly.
She didn’t reply.
“He was?!" he exclaimed. “Ladybug, that’s… that’s… that’s hilarious!” and he was back laughing, even louder than before.
She glared at him, before grabbing her pillow once again and hitting him with it.
“No, no—I’ll stop, I’ll stop! But you don’t understand, this is so funny!”
“I really don’t see why.” And with that she lay down on the bed and turned around, her back to him. “Adrien is a very sweet person, I had great taste.”
Today, however, by loving Chat Noir? Maybe not so much, she decided.
A warm hand settled on her arm.
(She still had great tastes).
“Say, my Lady… if you were to meet that Adrien boy today and he were to ask you on a date… would you say yes?” She could still hear the remainder of his amusement in his voice, but he seemed to have calmed down, now.
She turned around to face him. He was lying on the side, propped on one elbow with his head resting on his hand. She pondered his question a few seconds. She hadn’t seen Adrien in a while, after all.
And… there was someone else now. She wasn’t fifteen anymore.
“I don’t know. I don’t think so.”
He was rubbing small circles on her arm.
“Oh?” he said with a hint of amusement in his voice. “What would fifteen-year-old-Bugbooboo think about that?”
She snorted. “She wouldn’t believe I’d ever say that. She’d think I lost my mind.”
He chuckled with her.
She frowned. “But… well, we all change when we grow up and… Adrien is probably still a great person. And I mean, with what he had to go through, I admire him a lot. But also, there’s some—… there’s…  there’s...”
“There’s what?”
You.
“Chat Nooiiir,” she tugged at the kwagatama around his neck instead, and raised her eyes to his. She bit her lip. “You know.”
She couldn’t get the words out of her mouth. Even after all these years, confessing was still something she found herself struggling with. But she kept his gaze as he silently searched hers; she wouldn’t back away or hide from it.
She kept it as he slowly took the hand that was fiddling with his necklace and lifted it to his lips. Kept it as he gently kissed the tips of her fingers. As she felt a shiver and the heat rising to her cheeks and was sure he could see it, too.
And she still kept his gaze as he lowered their hands on the mattress, and caressed hers with his thumb.
He knew.
And he reciprocated. She put a hand on his cheek, and slowly brought her face closer to his. She was about to close her eyes and the gap between them when a finger on her lips interrupted her.
Chat Noir closed his eyes, letting a small smile tug at his lips. Took a deep breath. Exhaled.
Opened his eyes again and looked right into hers.
“What if…” he said nervously, almost as a murmur, a deep contrast to his amusement from earlier. “What if I told you that… that you could have both? In one person.”
Her eyes widened. She sat up suddenly and grabbed his face. Did he mean that—
“Chaton?!” she said surprised —questioning. Her eyes frantically searched his.
He took one of her hands and brought it to his mask. And slowly nodded.
Carefully, shaking, she removed the home-sewed mask from his face.
His eyes were closed, but it was the unmistakable face of Adrien that met her. And older Adrien, an Adrien who was still the same but also so different.
An Adrien who was Chat Noir, and had always been—an Adrien that she knew more than she could have possibly thought.
As he opened his eyes to look at her, she took both his hands and kissed them. She noticed that she was crying when she saw tears dropping on his ring. She didn’t care.
It suddenly hit her that this boy had had to fight against his own father—and that it was certainly why he hadn’t been ready to show himself before. What he just did now, finally revealing himself to her—this was huge.
But looking at his gaze, soft from her actions, and feeling his hand wiping her tears away, she decided that it was probably not something he wanted to discuss now. And she didn’t want to ruin their moment, their reveal, with pity and talks about his father: the very thing he had probably tried to avoid when he was still insecure about who he was under the mask.
She giggled through her tears. “You’re beautiful,” is what first made its way out of her mouth.
That made him laugh and oh god, she was making him cry too now.
“Take off my mask. Please,” she whispered, kissing his fingers once more.
He sat up next to her, are gently put a strand of her hair behind her ear.
Then, he did as she told—and gasped.
“You—you’re Marinette!”
She giggled again. “And you’re Adrien!”
“I was thinking about you the other day. I was wondering how you were doing and…” he trailed off.
“And now you know!”
“And now I know!” he grinned. “You’re wonderful… I missed you so much but… it also sounds weird to say that now, doesn’t it?”
“Well… we could still catch up, around a coffee and uh… is this date with both Chat Noir and Adrien still on the table?” she asked.
Was she being a bit too straight forward? Probably. But she had troubles to control her mouth right now.
“When will it not?” he breathed.
She squealed and wiggled on her spot, grabbing his face. But before she could come closer to him, she faltered and stopped, remembering his finger on her lips a few minutes before.
“Uh, can I kiss you this time?”
He chuckled, a soft blush gracing his cheeks—and kissed her in answer.
She immediately closed her eyes at the contact of his lips and kissed him back—slowly, deeply, tasting him as much as she could. He tilted his head to give her a better access, and she climbed on his laps to be more comfortable—and closer to him.
Marinette lost count of how many times they came back for each other, of how many times their lips met, or their tongues. She felt so happy and so good—so in love.
When they separated and looked at each other, shy and giddy smiles on their faces, she couldn’t help but drop another tender kiss on his cheek, and caressed it afterwards.
“Now I know what you found so funny earlier,” she told him.
“It’s hilarious, right? We were so dumb!”
“We still are,” she added.
“We definitely still are. I can’t believe I didn’t know that Marinette was in love with me in collège, wow.”
“Is in love with you,” she corrected, still caressing his cheeks. “Present tense.”
She would always remember the look on his face when she said it. He was in love with her too, there was no doubt about it.
Suddenly, she was hit with a realisation and looked at him in horror. “Wait a minute. That means… That I have only forty-one percent compatibility with Chat Noir?!”
Adrien burst out laughing. “My Laaaady, you can’t seriously believe these tests, right?”
“Well, no, but we still should have way more compatibility than forty-one percent. Who even has that with their super-hero partner?”
“Marinette,” he said, amused, “my Bugabisous…I don’t even have a hundred percent with myself. It would be hard to live in my own head.”
She blinked. “You’re right. That test is dumb. But how do we know if we’re the most compatible then?”
Adrien chuckled, and put his hands around her waist, bringing her closer to him. “Well, you’re the Guardian, I think you can make up the rules for that.”
She put her arms around his neck. “That’s true. Then I decide that we’re a hundred percent compatible.”
“A hundred percent, uh?”
Their foreheads were touching now.
“A hundred-and-one,” she whispered against his lips, and she kissed him.

Miraculous Rant.
Where the hell do I begin…
Season 1:
The show was decent in season 1. Some episodes were just mindless filler and probably weren’t needed in the grand scheme of things but they helped us get introduced to the characters, we got to know the plot and the world our characters inhabit. It was good. The love story between Adrien and Marinette was cute and off to a touching and fluffy start.
Season 2:
This season was immediately better than season 1. It had character development, it went more into detail about the lore surrounding the Miraculous and we got to learn more about our characters and their families and the villian’s motives. (HM really went from “I wanna destroy the world” to “I wanna wake my wife from the coma she’s in”).
We got to see new heroes which was fun! We got new characters like Luka and Kagami.
The season finale was epic! The Miraculous team all taking down all the previous villains in the show was awesome. At the end we even got Mari kissing Adrien on the cheek. It was great! (Even though it clearly reset itself in season 3 cause it’s never mentioned again)
I really enjoyed season 2 and it’s probably my favourite out of the 4.
Season 3:
Season 3 was kinda good and kinda bad. We had some great episodes but this is where the show took the wrong turn.
Marinette lost some of her character in season 3. This was the start of her descent into being the Queen of Mary Sues. It’s also where she was crowned the Queen of Stalkers! Her character took a fucking nose dive in this season. We had so many moments that just creeped me the fuck out.
1. The ENTIRETY of Puppeteer 2 🤢🤢🤢 I could not stand that episode. When we reached the dreaded statue scene I physically had to pause it like 10 times. That scene takes about 3 minutes to watch… it took me about 20. I cringed so fucking hard because of the secondhand embarrassment I was feeling. That was not sweet, it wasn’t romantic, it wasn’t the least bit cute… it was a train wreck! It was creepy and stalkerish and it’s a wonder Adrien even spoke to her again after that atrocity!
2. LB delivering the present in Chat Blanc. Two words: STALKER BEHAVIOUR!!! I genuinely could not believe my eyes when I saw LB run her hand across everything in his room and then actually SNIFF Adrien’s pillow. Like WTF!!! 🤮 I’m pretty sure whoever was responsible for that scene clearly thought it was the equivalent of when someone gets their S/O’s jumper or something and it still smells like them. But this turned it up to the nth degree and way passed the line of sanity.
Adrien was extremely under-utilised in this season. He didn’t really do anything. The only episodes we got about him didn’t really focus on him. ‘Felix’ whilst focusing on Adrien’s family didn’t really feature him. ‘Party Crasher’ while a beautiful mess was more about Mari trying to get into the party than the party itself. ‘Chat Blanc’ again focused more on Mari trying to fix her mistake.
We got even more heroes in season 3, not in the right order but they were there. It was fun seeing everyone’s transformations.
Season 3 was also the season of destroying redemptions. The big one obviously being Chloe. Season 2 was setting up this amazing redemption for her and before it could go anywhere it was wiped off the face of the earth during the finale (and don’t worry we’ll get to that dumpster fire later). Gabriel also had any remaining sympathy ripped away from him. How did the guy who stopped Gorizilla from letting Adrien die when he only thought he was CN go from that to using his son like fucking baseball in Chat Blanc when he knew his son was CN. Like I knew you were a shit father but you still cared about Adrien in some way shape or form but after that episode I can see I was clearly mistaken!
Before we get to the finale I want to talk about probably my 2 least favourite episodes from this season: Desperada and Reflekdoll
Desperada:
I fucking hated this episode! The only good thing was Luka getting to be Viperion, other than that this episode was awful!
Marinette was a selfish cringey bitch. Completely ignoring Luka to gush about Adrien to Jagged. Brushing Luka off as soon as Adrien turns up. Immediately cuddling up to Aspik and flirting with him when she needed to focus on the akuma (something which she has told CN not to do many times before)
Adrien, I love you kid but Jesus Christ you were a dumbass in this episode! Aspik’s design was terrible! Aspik himself was awful. I know Adrien tried his best but dude you were given the Black Cat miraculous for a reason! He shouldn’t have tried to be Aspik but even when he did he should’ve called it quits after like 5 resets not 25,913 times.
The only person with a brain this episode was Luka. So well done guitar boy, gold star!
Reflekdoll:
This episode was annoying! It was basically the start of the Marinette can do no wrong streak! When they have to swap miraculous I was happy cause it meant we got to see new outfits and see how they each handle the different powers. It would also serve as a way to get LB and CN to see what their partners role is first hand. Until we actually get to it…
LadyNoire is of course amazing and needs no introduction to using this new miraculous that she’s never used before. She’s cocky and confident and basically just LB in Chat’s costume with his powers.
Mister Bug on the other hand is just useless. He struggles with this new miraculous (like anyone would!) and is stupid and goofy. He has to rely on LadyNoire to solve the lucky charm. They swapped miraculous so shouldn’t that mean that Mister Bug should get the lucky vision and the creative powers that the earrings give him.
Overall Reflekdoll is awful. It was shitty writing and the start of Adrien getting the short end of the stick.
And now the season 3 finale… Just what the fuck. That is my only reaction: what the fuck!
Chloe you poor fucking child! What did they do to you!!! So much potential SQUANDERED!!!!
What was the point in bringing in all these different superheros with unique skill sets, costumes and transformations if you were just going to immediately reveal them to the main villian so they can’t be used again. That’s stupid! If you wanted the shock value that is “Oh no HM knows some of the heroes identities!” Then keep it as only some. Have like Max, Kim and Kagami outside trying to find somewhere to hide but unfortunately they get hit. Or Nino and Alya are hiding but the windows open and they get hit. Have some of the heroes hide so they’re fine! Taking away every ally of LB and CN’s was a stupid move! (Even if they wanted Alya to become a spy have her as part of the like 4 that get revealed or something, it’s not that difficult)
Season 3 was 50/50 for me
Season 4:
So I know season 4 isn’t even halfway through yet but so much is wrong with this season already that I need to vent!
So my biggest problem with this season of Miraculous: Tales of Ladybitch and Rena Rouge, I mean Rena Furtive… shit, Chat Noir! Is that CN is basically pointless! Adrien has been flung over a rainbow and is only remembered when he’s needed as
1. Marinette’s love interest
2. Someone for LB to shout at
3. A plot device
He has basically been sidelined. Partners my ASS!!!
Adrien is being blown off by pretty much EVERYONE! It’s coming to a point where this poor sweet summer child is going to crack! And it is not gonna be pretty… I definitely feel like the writers are leading up to a big fight between CN and LB which will probably end with Chat Blanc 2.0.
I REALLY HATE MARINETTE/LADYBUG!!!! In Season 3 I said it was the beginning of her descent, well in season 4 she’s done it. She’s descended, she has hit rock fucking bottom. She is so unlikable I don’t actually care about her as a person. She has entered full blown stalker territory its only a matter of time before she starts killing people for even looking at Adrien! Not to mention that Miss Mary Sue here can’t do anything wrong! She never has to suffer the consequences of her actions, she is always perfect no matter what she does… it pisses me off!)
She’s the Guardian now big whoop. I know what it feels like to be stressed and under pressure so I do understand why she needed to tell someone about it all. I just don’t see why that person had to Alya! Especially considering she has someone by her side every akuma attack going through pretty much the exact same thing. I know she’s worried about CB happening again but as I said before the more she leaves him out the more she is actually pushing that to become a possibility! Plus it makes sense for them to reveal their identities now since LB is now the guardian it’s probably a good idea to know who holds the cat miraculous, she knows everyone else’s identities!
Even if she didn’t want to tell CN her identity she could still explain the situation to him. If she didn’t want to tell him anything (which she doesn’t anyway) then instead of Alya she should’ve talked to Luka! Her boyfriend for all of half an episode (thanks writers…). He’s so sweet and caring and clearly loves her so much! If she wanted someone to confide in then why not choose the person you clearly wanted to date but couldn’t because of that very reason! (Yeah I know it’s kinda a moot point now since Luka knows both identities but still). He wanted to try and comfort her so it would’ve been the perfect moment for it. That way you could still date him and he’d know why you had to suddenly leave dates halfway through! But no break the boys heart instead!
Adrien and Marinette were both such fucking idiots in the first 2 episodes. Like why would you start a relationship with someone when you know your heart isn’t in it! That’s called leading someone on and is a really shitty thing to do to someone! No wonder Kagami and Luka ended up akumatized!
Another aspect of season 4 I don’t like is Rena Furtive. Yes ok having a spy for your side is a good strategy but when said spy basically tells an important member of a duo that the 2 person job doesn’t involve them… it just really ticks me off! Alya you are the sidekick to LB and CN! Chat isn’t!
Miraculous specials:
The Miraculous World specials suck! Shanghai is better than NY but still has its problems. Both specials add nothing to the overall plot/lore of the show apart from trying to set up some weird cinematic universe…
NY special:
One of the worst things I’ve ever had to sit through! The plane scene alone I paused a few times. I want to say well done to Mari for trying to move on from Adrien (especially considering I’m pretty sure she’s dating Luka at this point) but I can’t help but think it’s just to give her character some pointless development that goes nowhere and doesn’t actually develop anything!
LB can pretty much fuck off at this point! I hate her! She put all this shit on CN (like she doesn’t know exactly how that feels). It’s like why does she get to go off on holiday but CN can’t. LB should’ve stayed in Paris for 3 reasons:
1. She’s recently become the guardian meaning it would probably be best that she stayed with the Mircle Box
2. She’s the only one who can purity the akumas
3. If she’s so sure about being the boss then she should take responsibility of Paris and the citizens.
What really pisses me off about her is what she says to CN during the big fight. “I can’t trust you”… surely you could have this conversation afterwards since you’re supposed to be focusing on taking down the villian! Plus everyone bashes Adrien for giving his miraculous up in this episode but look at it from his point of view: His partner and best friend just said she couldn’t trust him which in turn caused him to cataclysm someone and essentially kill them. That’s gonna take a toll on anyone, especially a 14 year old! He probably thought in that moment. “Ladybug needs a partner she can trust and someone who won’t mess up and kill someone. She needs a better partner.” It makes sense he renounces his miraculous! I’m just upset that in doing so he loses Plagg who is pretty much his only friend who actually understands what Adrien goes through at home.
When Uncanny gets CN to come back, LB acts like it’s not her fault in the first place that he feels inadequate! She didn’t even apologise for saying what she did! He apologised for lying about not being in Paris but nope LB wasn’t in the wrong at all and didn’t have anything to apologise for 🙄… (yes the LadyNoir hug was amazing but I just wish it was under different circumstances!)
Also are we not gonna mention Gabriel Agreste almost starting WW3??? He wanted to launch a fucking missile!!!
Shanghai:
As I said before, this special is way better for several reasons.
We got MariChat! (Best side to the love square imo). This special actually had some semblance on a plot. Fei, whilst a bit op, was a cool character. It was nice to see Wang Cheng again.
However once again there were many problems.
A big one being Marinette yet again! (What a shock! 😒 I’ll come back to this). Another was that once again HM’s motivation has changed. How is getting the Prodigious gonna help bring back Emilie??
Back to Marinette… The fact that the words “Huh?! There must be some kind of mistake! I always know what's up with Adrien! … His 5 first names and every corresponding name date, his yearly schedule, even his shoe size! If there were anything to know about him, I would know it!” come out of her mouth whilst she is flipping through his schedule that she keeps in her pocketbook is a hugh red flag!!! That is not cute or adorable! That’s messed up and Adrien needs to fucking run and maybe possibly go into witness protection… Marinette is a full blown stalker! Not to mention the GPS she has (that could just be the find my friends app on iphone but still).
It also is extremely rude of her to use not only her great uncle’s birthday but also a lie about wanting to know her Chinese heritage in order to go to Shanghai to stalk her obsession, I mean crush. This could’ve been avoided if the Dupain-Chengs were going to Shanghai for the purpose of celebrating Wang Cheng’s bday and then Adrien just so happened to be in Shanghai.
Also this means LB left Paris without telling CN! I know CN did the same but again he can’t purify the akumas. Plus he has a reason he couldn’t stay in Paris, Mari just went cause her crush did. Great guardianship there Marinette.
This was also the last time CN actually did something. Even if it was for a short while before LB and her female partner took over (the beginning of a theme…)
Other things:
There are 2 other things that I wanna say but felt they needed a separate bit.
In Furious Fu, Su-Han has a rule book that he uses to tell Marinette which rules she has broken. At the end of the episode he tells her that is she breaks 1 more rule that he will take the Miraculous and the Miracle Box off her, which fair enough but wouldn’t it be helpful to leave the rule book with her?! How can she be wary of not breaking anymore rules when she doesn’t even know what the rules are??
Now the big one: Master Fu…
Where do I even start with him. He is so fucking manipulative!! He is Asian Dumbledore!
He decides to leave these extremely powerful jewels in the hands of 13 year olds! Surely leaving the miraculous to someone in their 20s would’ve been better!
He clearly favours LB over CN even though the Ladybug and Black Cat are supposed to be partners! Wouldn’t it make sense for them both to be in contact with the guardian from the start?? He randomly started introducing rules such as if LB and CN find out each other’s identities they would lose their miraculous… what kind of bullshit rule is that? It also came out of fucking nowhere!
Final Thoughts:
But to summarise all of that: Miraculous is on quite a steep decline but I’m invested at this point and I am genuinely curious as to where the fuck this will go.
Marinette needs professional fucking help before the writers even consider canonising Adrienette cause at the moment she is not what Adrien needs!
Adrien needs to stand up for himself! He needs to pull LB to the side and tell her what he feels and what he’s going through cause he is on the precipice of a breakdown!
(Small point that’s more to do with the fandom: when searching for fanfics it’s really annoying that Adrien Agreste/Chat Noir Bashing is a tag but Marinette Dupain-Cheng/Ladybug Bashing isn’t. Why does everyone think Marinette can do no wrong???)

Marinette Dupain-Cheng’s Spite Playlist: Remix CH19
People weren’t happy with how things went down with Alya in the original MDCSP, so I hope this version suffices. ;)
Previous     First      Next     AO3
---------------------------
Chapter 19: Miss Missing You
Alya chewed her nails, pivoting back and forth in her desk chair as Lila settled on her bed. Her thoughts raced too fast for Alya to make sense of them, and Lila’s grave expression did little to calm her nerves. When Alya told her about Adrien and Chloe, she insisted on meeting up. Maybe this way they could both talk to Ladybug, but something was off about Lila. Her jaw was a little too tense, and those green eyes swirled with an intensity Alya couldn’t place. What was going on?
“Is Ladybug on her way too? We have to let her know what they’re plotting,” Alya said, but when Lila remained quiet, she asked, “What?”
“There’s something I’ve been meaning to tell you,” Lila said. “This is going to be hard for me, but I trust you over anyone else.”
“What’s wrong?” Alya asked, and Lila shifted her weight, tucking a strand of long hair behind her ear.
“Well, Ladybug and I…we kind of had a falling out.” Lila lowered her gaze to her lap.
“What?”
“Remember when Chloe tried to impersonate her to make everyone hate me? Well, I told Ladybug about it, and that she shouldn’t trust Chloe anymore, but then last night she gave her back her Miraculous without consulting me.” Lila recounted. “I tried to talk to her and understand why she’d trust Chloe again after what she did to me, but Ladybug freaked out on me and told me not to question her judgment.”
“For real?” Alya gasped. “That’s not like her.”
“I know,” Lila said, “and after what you told me on the phone, I definitely think something weird is going on with her.”
“You don’t think Chloe is manipulating her, do you?” she asked.
Lila pressed her lips together and shook her head. “Not Chloe. I think that…well, I’m sorry, but I think Marinette is behind all of this.”
“Marinette?” Alya shot a glance at the Ladyblog pulled up on her computer, a sinking feeling in her gut.
She hadn’t posted about Queen Bee’s return—couldn’t bring herself to. Something was definitely off with Ladybug, but was it really all Marinette’s doing? Marinette wasn’t one for petty revenge, but maybe she had changed since she left. Or maybe Alya just never knew her like she thought she did.
Alya thought back to the night she was akumatized, the distant look in her bff’s eyes. She’d seemed tired, like all the fight had been drained from her. She didn’t even argue when Alya suggested they stop being friends, a fact that had haunted Alya ever since. Why had Marinette abandoned her so easily? Surely if her stories were to be believed, she would have fought harder, right? Wasn’t the truth worth fighting for?
“You said so yourself, Chloe and Adrien said they were going to get Ladybug to talk about me for Marinette. I think she’s manipulating all of them to get back at me because she can’t let go even after she’s been gone for a month now,” Lila said.
“But that doesn’t make any sense. Why would Marinette do that? When I last spoke to her, she didn’t want anything to do with you or anyone here really,” Alya said. “Well, except Adrien, I guess, but she’s always been head-over-heels for him.”
“She’s obsessed! She’s never liked me, and I never understood why. The only thing I’ve been able to figure out is that she didn’t like me talking to Adrien, so now she’s lured him over to her side and fed him all kinds of lies about me. I don’t even like him that way, but she’s just so insecure and jealous that she thought Adrien would fall in love with me because of all of my accomplishments.” Lila hugged a pillow to her chest. “Now she’s taken one of my best friends away from me too!”
Alya crossed the room to sit beside her on the bed, draping an arm over her shoulders. “I’m sorry, girl. Maybe we can talk to Ladybug and convince her not to do that interview tomorrow.”
“I don’t think we can,” Lila whimpered. “She hasn’t responded to any of my calls ever since the Queen Bee thing. She’s on their side now.”
“Are you sure? I’ve met Ladybug a bunch of times, and she would totally pick up on it if something fishy was going on,” Alya said.
“Watch the interview tomorrow. If Ladybug says anything about me that sounds like them, then you’ll know I’m telling the truth,” Lila said.
Alya pursed her lips but didn’t argue. Lila’s story was just as probable as theirs at this point, and she was right. All they could do was watch the interview and see what happened. For their sake, she hoped that Chloe and Adrien’s plan failed, and Ladybug never mentioned Lila. But a heavy pit was already forming in Alya’s stomach, filling her with dread for the coming day. How had she gotten herself into the middle of all this drama? And how long would it be before the truth was finally revealed?
♪♫♪ Don’t Blame Me ♪♫♪
“How long before we give up?” Adrien asked the next afternoon. He leaned against the railing while Chloe manned the spotlight beside him.
“It’s hasn’t even been 20 minutes, Adrikins. I’ve sat up here for entire akuma battles before.” Chloe chided.
“Sorry, I guess I’m just nervous,” he said, letting a breath pass his lips.
Chloe spun on him with a scowl, jabbing her finger into his chest. “Oh no, you are not backing out this time. We’re doing this, so just think about Dupain-Cheng’s awful split-ends or whatever it is you need to keep you motivated.”
Adrien pursed his lips as Chloe turned back to her bee signal. She was right. No backing out this time. Lila was going down once and for all, then Marinette could finally be free. Marinette…
His heart fluttered, warming his cheeks. It would be obvious after today that he was helping Chloe take down Lila. Being intentionally cruel wasn’t in his nature, but he’d do anything to protect the people he loved. To protect the girl he loved.
It had taken him longer than it should have to realize his feelings for her, but now they burned so brightly, he had to wonder how he’d ever missed them. Marinette was a wonderful girl and a dear friend. If ever there was a person to fight for, it was her. She’d understand why he did all of this. It was all for her—always for her.
His heart ached with longing. Now that Marinette went to a different school, he couldn’t see her as often as he used to. Sometimes they went several days without seeing each other, and his heart grew heavier the longer they stayed apart. At least when he loved Ladybug, he got to see her every day when they fought akumas or patrolled the city, but even that wasn’t enough.
Adrien had spent too much of his life alone. Couldn’t the universe give him just one person to cure his loneliness? Missing Marinette was torture. What was she doing right now? Was she thinking about him?
He pulled out his phone and typed a simple message: what’s up?
Ugh, no, that was lame.
Hey cutie ;) what are you up to?
No, too forward.
I was just thinking about you
Too clingy. He backspaced over his message again, eyebrows knitting together in concentration. Why was flirting so much harder as Adrien? If he were Chat Noir, he’d just drop a few cat puns and tell her how pretty she was, but that might be a little abrasive coming from Adrien. The last thing he wanted was to scare her off. After all, she almost kissed him in the garden too. That meant she loved him back, right?
Pressing his lips into a determined line, he typed another message and hit send without overthinking it.
Hey, how’s your day been?
A minute passed before his phone buzzed with a reply: busy. I’m finalizing my designs for Clara. I present to her next week and im super nervous!
Aww don’t be clara is gonna love them.
I hope so! she replied. So what are you up to today?
Uhh im working on a school project with chloe. He lied. We have to interview someone we look up to, and shes demanding we interview ladybug so weve been standing on the roof with her bee signal for like 30 minutes.
Wow ladybug huh? I hope she shows up for you guys. Anyway these designs aren’t going to finish themselves so ill talk to you later! Bye!
good luck!
He smiled down at her messages. Marinette was always running a million miles an hour working on some project or another. She was so driven and passionate—something Adrien deeply admired. Clara would love her designs, and he and Chloe would definitely take down Lila this time. Then he and Marinette could be together without having to worry about anything. They could move to the suburbs and buy a cozy home for their three kids, a dog, and a hamster named-
“Looking for me?” Adrien and Chloe spun around, and Ladybug cocked a hip. “What’s the emergency?”
“Uhh,” Adrien stammered.
Chloe rolled her eyes. “We have to interview one of our personal heroes for a school project, so we picked you. Isn’t that right, Adrikins?” She nudged him with her elbow.
Think about Marinette. Everything was for Marinette. The tears she’d spilled, the pain she’d suffered… Adrien was going to take it all away. Lila would never hurt her again.
“Yeah. Do you have time?” Adrien asked.
Ladybug glanced between them and smiled. “I have a few minutes. Make it quick.”
“Excellent.” Chloe clapped her hands together and paced toward the stairs. “Everything is set up in my suite.”
Adrien took a deep breath as Ladybug fell into step beside him. A month ago being so close to her would have sent his heart into overdrive, but now his heart was pounding for a different reason. Ladybug hated liars. Deceiving her was a direct betrayal of her trust. Even if his feelings for her had changed, he was still her partner, and manipulating her like this didn’t feel right.
“Wait.” He stopped abruptly and caught Ladybug’s wrist. Chloe was already through the doorway to the stairs, and he sent her a silent apology just in case his next words ruined everything. “Chloe and I lied to you. This isn’t for a school project.”
“Then what’s all this about?” Ladybug asked.
“It’s…” Adrien took a deep breath and continued. “You remember Lila, right? She lied about you saving her and how you two are bffs?”
Ladybug sobered. “Yeah?”
“Well, her lies have gotten out of hand, and she hurt someone important to me. Chloe and I planned to trick you into admitting you two were never friends, so that everyone can finally see the truth about her. The interview was just a coverup,” Adrien explained, hanging his head low. “We shouldn’t have lied to you. I’m sorry.”
Ladybug eyed him with pursed lips, those blue eyes working out a solution like he were one of her lucky charms. She seemed to come to a conclusion, her face softening. “Thank you for being honest with me.”
“If you don’t want to help us, I won’t blame you. I know it’s wrong to seek revenge,” Adrien said.
A knowing smile spread across her lips. “That friend of yours must be really special to you.”
“What?”
“For you to resort to something like this, you must care about your friend—the one Lila hurt—a lot,” she said, then with a sigh added, “I don’t normally condone revenge, but I know how dangerous Lila can be. I’ve almost lost my Miraculous because of her several times, so I think you’re right. It’s time everyone learned the truth about Lila Rossi.”
Adrien blinked. “So, wait… You’re going to help us?”
“I made a promise to keep Paris safe, and if we continue to let Lila go unchecked, she’s only going to put more people in danger,” Ladybug said. “It’s time someone put her in her place.”
“Hurry up, you two! I have a hair appointment this evening, and I do not want to be late!” Chloe shouted from the doorway.
Adrien held Ladybug’s gaze, and she gave him an encouraging nod. “Uh, coming!” he called.
He gestured Ladybug ahead, following close behind her, cheeks hot. This was really happening. Ladybug was going to help them stop Lila. After today, everyone would know the truth, and Marinette would be free. They all would.
“Ladybug, you sit on this side.” Chloe directed. “Adrikins and I will sit on this side.”
“Okay,” Ladybug said, sliding onto the couch smoothly.
Adrien took the seat across from her, wiping his palms on his jeans while Chloe barked orders at her butler. Satisfied with the camera angle, Chloe sat beside him and fixed her hair in her compact before calling “action.”
Chloe’s butler—Adrien couldn’t remember his name—started the Instagram live, broadcasting to all of Chloe’s followers. There was no turning back now.
“Hello out there, my little worker bees. Your queen is here with some very special guests today,” Chloe cooed in her token attention-seeking voice. “My favorite people in the whole world besides myself, obviously—Adrien and Ladybug!”
“Hi.”
“Hey.” Adrien waved.
“As you all know, I helped Ladybug defeat another akuma last weekend. Being Queen Bee again was such an honor, and I admit, even I have people I look up to,” she said, flipping her ponytail. “So, Ladybug, thank you for allowing me to become a superheroine. Queen Bee is truly an inspiration.”
“Uh, sure.” Ladybug rolled her eyes. “Chat Noir and I always appreciate help from our allies.”
“You heard it here, everyone! Ladybug values my help,” Chloe said, and Adrien cleared his throat. “Now, onto the topic of today’s livestream. People everywhere are inspired by superheroes like me and Ladybug, so today we are going to give you all the inside scoop on what it takes to be a hero.”
“That’s right, Chloe,” Adrien piped up. “I don’t have superpowers, so I have to ask: what’s it like being a superhero, Ladybug?”
“Well, everyone thinks that having superpowers is all fun and games, but in reality, Chat Noir and I have a huge responsibility. Defending Paris every day requires sacrifice, and we know the whole city is counting on us to succeed. It’s a lot of pressure,” Ladybug said.
“Of course, I know what it’s like being a superhero myself, but can you tell everyone how overwhelming it is to save the day all the time?” Chloe prompted.
“Yeah, totally. It’s a lot of work fighting akumas. Sometimes Hawkmoth makes supervillains at the worst times, and I have to drop everything to go save the city. Leading a double life is challenging, and sometimes it even impacts my day-to-day life. School, friends, family—I’m always rushing all over the place juggling two lives.” Ladybug admitted, rubbing the back of her neck. “But I’m happy to do it. Paris is my home, and it’s an honor to defend it. Besides, when the going gets tough, I know I can count on my partners to have my back.”
“So, when you pick a new partner, what qualities do you look for in a person that makes them a good fit to work with you?” Adrien asked.
“I look for people with courage and good intentions. Often times, the people I pick are ones who have stepped up to do the right thing, even if it’s hard. They’re people I know I can trust,” Ladybug said.
“Would you say you consider your allies close personal friends?” Chloe beamed, flashing the camera a wink.
“Well, I don’t know all of them in real life like you, Chloe,” Ladybug said with a cautious glance at the camera. “Sometimes they are people I meet during a battle that impress me, and who prove themselves to be trustworthy.”
“And how do you know if you can trust someone?” Adrien asked. “Do you consult anyone for recommendations, or do you operate on the fly?”
“Most of the time when I give someone a Miraculous, it’s because they’ve demonstrated their character to me. Every person I give a Miraculous to has earned their right to wear it either by helping me or showing that they’re willing to sacrifice to save others. The decision about who gets to wear one and who doesn’t is deeply personal to me,” Ladybug answered. “Not even Chat Noir knows the identities of our allies. It’s something I don’t share with anyone.” She shot Chloe a stern look. “Under normal circumstances.”
“So, you pick the allies by yourself?” Adrien followed up.
“Yes. In the middle of a battle, I wouldn’t even have time to consult anyone if I wanted to.”
“In other words, if anyone were to—I don’t know—claim that they help you choose your partners, they’d be a liar, right?” Chloe added.
“Yeah, I don’t talk to anyone about who I pick.” Ladybug shook her head.
“Ya know, Ladybug, there are some people out there that claim to be your best friend. How do you feel about people lying about knowing you to make themselves more popular?” Chloe asked.
Ladybug locked eyes with Adrien, the weight of their mission heavy on both of their shoulders. She clasped her hands together in her lap and said, “As I’m sure both of you are aware, there will always be people who use your name for their own selfish gain, but I want everyone out there to know that I take my job very seriously. Protecting all of you is my number one priority.”
She took a deep breath. “Being a superhero is dangerous, and that’s why, with the exception of Chat Noir and my trusted allies, Ladybug doesn’t have friends.”
“So, anyone who says they’re your friend is a liar, right?” Adrien asked.
“Yes, and they’re putting themselves in danger. Hawkmoth will stop at nothing to get my Miraculous, so please, if you’re out there… Do the right thing, and tell the truth.” Ladybug pleaded to the camera.
“It’s utterly pathetic when people lie about who they know just to get attention,” Chloe sighed in disgust. “You heard it here, my little bees! Chat Noir and I are Ladybug’s only friends.”
“Well, I’d consider you more of an ally than a frie-”
“And as one of Ladybug’s bffs, I want all of the losers out there to buzz off! Ladybug has much more important things to do, like spending time with me,” Chloe said.
“Right.” Ladybug’s yoyo beeped, and she glanced down at it briefly. “I should really get going. A hero’s work is never done.”
“Of course. Thank you for your time, Ladybug,” Adrien said, shaking her hand.
“No problem. It’s important to me that everyone in Paris knows I’m doing everything I can to keep you all safe, and the people I choose to fight beside me are people I truly trust. We’ll all keep fighting hard to protect this city,” she said, waving two fingers. “Bug out!”
“Well, that does it for this livestream, little bees. Your queen will see you all again next time. Bye-bye!”
♪♫♪ Impossible Year ♪♫♪
“So, anyone who says they’re your friend is a liar, right?”
“Yes.”
Lila was right. They really had gotten to Ladybug. Alya had done her best not to think about Marinette since their falling out. Remembering her old bff was too painful and confusing. Everything Alya thought she knew changed the moment Lila came to their school. The person she trusted became a stranger overnight. Alya wanted to believe that Marinette would never align herself with Chloe or orchestrate a hostile takedown just because she was jealous, but Alya had seen her do crazier things to win Adrien.
“I’m doing everything I can to keep you all safe, and the people I choose to fight beside me are people I truly trust.”
How was Chloe more trustworthy than Alya? All that was necessary for the triumph of evil was that good people do nothing. She’d known from day one that Chloe was evil, so why couldn’t Ladybug see it?  Why would Ladybug align herself with the queen of all evil over someone who dedicated herself to doing the right thing? Was this really all Marinette’s doing? And why?
Was Marinette really that desperate to win Adrien? Did she hate Lila so much that she’d willingly team up with her worst enemy to get back at her for stealing attention away from the boy she liked? From where Alya was sitting, it looked like Marinette already had him, and Lila had always been clear that she wasn’t interested in him that way. Why go through all that trouble to get Ladybug to denounce Lila just to win a boy? But if Marinette was involved with Ladybug…
It all made sense now. The reason Ladybug had picked someone else to wield her Miraculous. How long had they been plotting all of this? And how could Ladybug trust Marinette’s word over Alya’s without even trying to hear her side of the story? Or Lila’s? How could Ladybug not see that she was being manipulated? She was a hero, and one of the best Alya had ever seen. So why was she fighting for the wrong side?
Her head spun, and she gripped the side of her desk for support. Someone needed to tell Ladybug the truth.
“You want to save Ladybug from those you deem evil. Let me help you, Ladyblogger.”
Alya jumped at the sinister voice in her head. She smoothed her thumb over her phone screen, now glowing with dark energy. A cold feeling washed over her, all of her pain and confusion bubbling to the surface. In the center of it all stood her determined resolve, driving her to give in.
Someone needed to tell Ladybug the truth. Someone like her.

Day 4- Café
Summary- Weredad rewrite where instead of brunch, Marinette takes Chat out to a cat café, where they end up bonding. Maybe Marinette does see him as something more.
Notes- Marichat May Day 4- Café! Let’s ignore the fact that Marinette would never canonically agree to go out in public with Chat Noir for identity reasons and appreciate some Marichat bonding.

Begin
Marinette wasn’t exactly sure how it happened, one minute she was de-transforming behind the pillar on her roof, and the next she was professing her love to Chat Noir.
And of course, just her luck that her dad would come out and see all of it.
“Oh! Well perfect timing. I have to go and bring him back to his mother!” Chat Noir said, in a rush to leave the increasingly awkward situation.
“Wait! Why don’t you come have Sunday brunch with us tomorrow?” Tom suggested placing a hand in Chat’s shoulder.
“No!” Marinette shouted. Both Tom and Chat Noir looked at her with wide eyes. “I-I mean, I’m sure Chat Noir has better things to do than have brunch with us!”
“Oh I see.” Tom gave a smirk that Marinette took as him not understanding at all. “You’d probably want to get to know each other alone. Marinette, why don’t you take him to that new cat café?”
“Sounds good! Now if you’ll excuse me, I really have to be going. See you then Marinette!”
———————————
Marinette groaned as she threw herself into bed.
“This is a total disaster!”
“You shouldn’t have lied about your feelings, Marinette.” Tikki scolded.
“He was about to figure out I’m Ladybug!” She loved Tikki, but sometimes her suggestions were either unhelpful or way too late.
“Now everyone thinks youre in love with him!”
Marinette covered her face in her pillow and screamed.
—————————
The next morning Marinette was less than ecstatic. She pushed herself out of bed and got ready for her ‘date.’
As she headed downstairs to wait for Chat, Tom handed her a box of heart shaped macaroons.
Marinette knew her father was prone to overexcitement, looking over to her Mom she got a face that simply said go along with it.
Marinette sighed. “I’m gonna go look out for Chat Noir on the roof.”
“Okay sweetie!” Tom practically sang.
As Marinette looked out from her terrace, she sighed in relief seeing now signs of the hero.
“No way he’s coming.” She said to Tikki, looking out over Paris’ rooftops. “He’s in love with Ladybug. No way he’d actually indulge me over one little love confession.” Marinette smirked.
“Well I’d rethink that.” Tikki replied.
Marinette turned to look in shock. Sure enough, she could see Chat’s pole disappearing and reappearing over the horizon.
Tikki giggled as Marinette rambled to herself in panic.
—————————
As Tom pushed her to open the door, Marinette began catastoihpsing in her head.
She opened the door to find Chat awkwardly standing with a single pale pink rose.
Marinette took it with a blush.
“Oh it’s a pink rose! Marinette loves pink! He knows you so well already!” Tom gushed.
Marinette practically yanked Chat Noir back outside the door.
“Okay well we better get going! I’d hate to waste too much of his time. We’ll be back soon!” Marinette hurried out. ‘Hopefully really soon.’ She mumbled to herself.
She closed the door and sighed before remembering this was only the beginning of her troubles.
Her eyes shot open to meet Chat’s.
“Uh Marinette?” Chat called in a nervous voice. “Before we go, there’s something I need to confess.”
‘Oh god,’ Marinette thought. ‘Please don’t let him say he’s in love with me.’
“I can’t be in love with you.” He sighed. Marinette’s jaw dropped. “I’m already in love with Ladybug. I wanted to tell you in person, hopefully that made it hurt less.” Chat looked down at her and placed a hand on her shoulder.
“You’re an amazing girl Marinette. I can understand why you’d fall in love with me. I mean I’m Chat Noir.” Marinette rolled her eyes at this. “Still I hope we can be friends?”
Despite her annoyance, he was still her partner and she was so happy she didn’t have to deal with that situation anymore.
She handed the box of macaroons to him.
“It’s okay Chat, of course we can still be friends. Do you still want to go to the café? I hear it’s the cat’s meow.” Marinette inwardly cringed at her joke, but she could see turning her down wasn’t easy for Chat so she was trying to lighten the mood.
Chat instantly brightened and let out a genuine laugh. “I’d love to Marinette.”
She returned his smile.
“What do you say we travel a faster way?” Chat held a hand out to her. She blushed and took it.
He pulled her close and she let out a little gasp. He chuckled.
“Hold on tight Mari, this will either be the best or worst thing you’ve ever experienced.”
‘Nothing new though.’ She said to herself before Chat lifted her bridal style and took off.
Still, she yelp. It felt so different being outside the suit. The air swirled around her as Chat held her. It was terrifying to not be in control, but she trusted Chat with her life.
She tried not to think about how warm he felt against her, nor how nice it felt for him to hold her.
By the time he let her down in front of the café, it felt all too soon.
She stood on wobbly legs. Chat grabbed her arm to steady her.
“Sorry, I know all that jumping must have made you dizzy.” He laughed.
Marinette steadied herself before hitting his shoulder softly.
“Don’t laugh at my expense!” This made him laugh a little harder, making Marinette smile fondly.
“Okay c’mon we look like idiots sitting out here.” She said, dragging him inside.
She could hear him gasp when she opened the door. There were at least 20 cats just roaming around.
“Marinette they’re so cute!” He whisper yelled into her ear. She giggled.
“Have you never had a cat before?” She asked as they took a seat near the window.
“No, my dad would never allow it. Unless you count Plagg, I’ve never really had a pet.” Chat sighed looking longingly at the cats.
Marinette suddenly felt a strong distaste for whoever didn’t give this boy anything he could ever dream of.
A cat walked over to them and Chat practically squealed with delight as one rubbed against his legs.
The childlike wonder in his eyes at such simple things made Marinette’s heart flutter, which she did everything to ignore.
They ordered drinks, Chat ordered a cafe creme, unsurprisingly.
As they drank their drinks they discussed the cats, among other things.
They went around and gave the cats different names and made up little stories about them.
“Okay what about that one?” Marinette asked Chat, pointing to a black cat with orange splotches.
“Hm, that’s General Fluffington.” Marinette held back a laugh. “Shame Marinette, you can’t just go around laughing at Generals!” This time Marinette let out the laugh.
“Okay and what else should I know about the General?” She asked, indulging him.
Said cat was currently getting tangled in yarn a few feet from them.
“Milk. He hates it, hates the stereotype.”
Marinette nodded, putting in a serious expression. “As he plays into said stereotype with yarn.”
Now it was Chat’s turn to lose his composure. As soon as he began laughing, Marinette couldn’t help but break character to join in.
By the time they left, the sun was getting lower in the sky.
“I had a lot of fun today Marinette. Possibly more fun than I’ve had in a long time.” Chat said as they walked back.
Marinette’s stomach was sore after laughing for what seemed like all day, even if it had been only a few hours.
“Me too. I’m glad we did this.” She sighed contently.
“You aren’t hurt from today right? I hope I didn’t make your feelings feel invalid.” Marinette turned to see Chat looking at her with concerned eyes.
She gave him a smile.
“No need to be. Besides who cares when I have such a pretty flower.” She waved the pink rose between them.
“I mean, if we’re comparing gifts I think I won. I’ll probably be eating this for the next month.” Chat replied gesturing at the box of macaroons he held under her arm.
“I’d say to thank my Dad but I’m not sure you want to be around too long after you drop me off.” Chat gave her a confused look, so she elaborated.
“He was a little overzealous about our date so he might not be too happy about you not returning my feelings. He’ll get over it when he sees I’m fine though.” She said with a supportive smile directed at Chat.
He seemed a little more anxious, but still had his glow from the day.
“Well I hope so. You have a really amazing family, Marinette.”
“Yeah, even though he might get ahead of himself, I’m glad he’s there for me.”
They arrived at her door too soon for Marinette’s liking.
“Thanks for today, Chat. I enjoyed spending time with you.” She turned to him in her doorstep. He leaned forward and her heart quickened.
He kissed her on the cheek.
“Me too, Marinette. See you soon.” He replied softly, before jumping off into the night.
Marinette sighed before walking in, where she was immediately bombarded with questions from her father.
———————
The next day as school Marinette could've sworn she saw Adrien popping small red pastries into his mouth with a lovesick expression. She didn’t know why, but something about it made her feel like she should be connecting something.

ML Fic: Soulmate Survey Part 1
(Link to the idea) that made me want to write it instead of working on my OTHER FICS.
(Master post)
_______________________________________________________________________
“Soulmate Searcher?” Marinette questioned with intrigue and confusion.
“Its an app that just got a global release!” Alya answered. “At first it was only released in America, but it became a huge hit and now it has international servers.”
The designer looked at her friend with even more confusion.
“So why is it so popular? And why did you want me to install it on my phone?” Marinette inquired.
“Its an app that lets you find the special someone who is your significant other. Alya explained. “Its a tried and true compatibility tester.”
Marinette’s intrigue dissipated, in her mind it was just like those cheesy magazine quizzes they put in magazines to see which celebrity  you would marry. Marinette had long outgrown that phase, especially when last time she took one it did not say she would be paired with Adrien but XY! Gross.
“Oh. Well count me out. Those quizzes are just a load of...”
“No way lady dude.” Nino chimed in. “This thing is legit. It has the highest matchmaking app back in the States and it is like down to a science and stuff.”
Marinette looked at the DJ skeptically.
Alya placed her hand on her shoulder.
“ It is more then just a personality quiz. You put in your name, your age, dating age range, preference, and so on, and then you answer a bunch of questions that allows the app to gage your personality, mentality and emotional impulse. Then after thats done, it will match you with the top 10 people who have the highest compatibility with you in a 50 mile radius. You can see percentage rates and everything. Then you can decide if you want to message any of the people on the list or block them. They can only see your name, photo and the percentage.” Alya detailed.
“So then all a person needs to do is know what your answers are and copy them.”
“An interesting Hypothesis but sadly incorrect.” Max answered from behind the group.
“Sorry to intrude, but I too had my doubts about the app until I learned about how the app’s algorithm worked. All questions given are randomized and answering the questions the exact same way even if someone did get the same questions does not guarantee 100% compatibility. I made several dummy accounts and rigged them in order to make them both have identical questions and answers, but they did not achieve 100% compatibility.” The class egghead began to explain.
“Having run the test numerous times with numerous accounts, the algorithm matches people with similar beliefs but not identical,  as having too much in common does not mean soul mate, it can be seen as suffocating. I have not yet cracked the theorem of how to get 100%. The highest I have been able to get is 93%.  It is as if it is a perfect formula for compatibility.” Max concluded.
Marinette had to admit her interest was peeked.
“So its a one time questionnaire and then done?” Marinette pressed with more interest.
“Well the first questionnaire takes an hour or two so it has enough data for a base compatibility profile. Then you answer 10 questions every day for 2 weeks to reaffirm any errors it might have made. Thats how the App is so successful. After about 2 weeks, your profile will be established. It was able to cut the margin of error down to 1.9%” Max exclaimed. “Its the pinnacle of mathematical perfection.”
“Thanks dude, couldn't have explained it better... really.” Nino thanked the robot enthusiast.
“Anytime, now I must head off. Markov and I have more tests to run.” Max head out and left the three teens to their own devices.
Marinette thought about it, she really didn't have much to lose trying it out.
“I even got Adrien to install it. He said he will fill it out after fencing.” Alya Whispered.
Marinette realized she had to do it. What if Adrien was on the app and some other girl had a high compatibility with him before she had a chance to try it. What if he fell in love with that mystery girl, got married and then bought a hamster!?
“Okay, I will take the quiz.” Marinette exclaimed with Confidence.
“Atta girl!”
______________________________________________________________________
Marinette had gone with Alya back to the Dupain Bakery in order to answer the questions in peace.
In Marinette’s room, Alya was relaxing as she watched the Designer answer the questions as honestly as possible.
“Now Girl, odds are the percentage maybe around the 70% mark, But Knowing you and Adrien, I bet you two will make it into the 80′s.” Alya answered.
Marinette nodded, half listening as she focused on answering.
“Nino and I got an 85%, which was pretty high. Ivan and Myléne only got a 79%. So no worries even if its in the 70′s”
“DONE!” Marinette exclaimed as she fell back. She was mentally exhausted. The questions were surprisingly more in depth then she expected.
She pressed submit and waited. Staring at her phone as it ‘processed her answers’
Alya stood up walking over to the bluish-black haired designer.
“Well.”
The list popped up.
Marinette scrolled through from 10 to 1. No Adrien. She felt herself sigh deeply.
“He isn't on it...” Marinette spoke defeated.
Alya took a look.
“Sorry girl, It might be he hasn't uploaded his profile yet.” Alya tried to encourage her friend who was burying her head in her pillow.
“You think?”
“He is a busy guy, but also, you need to see who is number one on the list. A certain guitarist you happen to be fond off.” Alya said with a smile.
Marinette pulled her head up and took her phone. Sure enough, it was Luka who was number one on the list. He had an 80% compatibility rating with her, which was at least 20% higher then the guy in second place. Maybe this was a sign that she should move on from Adrien and ask Luka out.
“Maybe I should message Luka, If he believes in this sort of thing.” Marinette spoke with a blush on her face.
Alya nodded.
“Do what you think is right girl, Adrien or not, you deserve a guy that will make you happy.”
“Thanks Alya, you are the best.” Marinette smiled sweetly at her best friend.
She clicked on the profile. The pop up asked if she would like to message the user Luka Couffaine.
Marinette paused, she was nervous about doing this. It was as if this was her crossroads. Would she go for it?
_____________________________________________________________________
“DONE!” Adrien exclaimed as he fell back on his bed. He was mentally exhausted as well as physically. He told Alya he would try out the app as soon as he was free from fencing.
“I don't get why you even bothered with those dumb questions.” A grouchy floating cat creature commented.
“Its an in depth Compatibility test Plagg. This could be the best way of finding My lady.”
Plagg looked at the model with skepticism.
“What makes you think that you would be matched up with Ladybug? You don't even know who she is.”
“We are soulmates, so obviously we will have the highest compatibility.” Adrien answered with confidence as he sat up.
Plagg rolled his eyes.
“You do know just because you were picked to be the cat miraculous wielder doesn't mean your soulmate is ladybug. There have been Ladybug’s and Chat noir’s that haven't gotten together.”
“It isn't because we were chosen together. I can just feel it Plagg. I know we are meant to be. And if for some reason the girl with the highest compatibility with me isn't Ladybug, I will still likely find someone that I can find myself liking. But knowing my Lady, she and I will have a compatibility of 85 maybe even 90%” Adrien answered with a loving sigh. “Oh, its ready.”
Adrien smiles at his phone before looking at the list.
“Oh Kagami is on here. 79% Thats pretty good. But she is only number two? Huh, so then who is number one?” Adrien spoke aloud as he scrolled. As he saw the name that was number one his face turned beet red and and he fell back on the bed.
“Adrien!?” Plagg exclaimed as he flew to the frozen blond. “What happen.... oh no Fucking way.”
_______________________________________________________________________
Marinette was about to press the button when another pop up appeared.
“List updated?”
Marinette clicked out of Luka’s profile and noticed he was now at second place.
“Luka got moved to second.” Marinette spoke with surprise.
“What? Then whose first?”
Marinette scrolled up. Her eyes went Wide.
“ADRIEN!?!?” Marinette shouted.
Alya smiled.
“I knew it! I told you he would be on your list! And Number one to boot. So what  is the percentage. 82? 85% Like Nino and I?”
“100...” Marinette spoke hardly audible.
Alya couldn't hear.
“How much?”
Marinette turned her phone to Alya.
Alya’s jaw dropped.
“1.... 100%!!!!!!!!!!”
_______________________________________________________________________
Plagg could not contain his laugher. The blond was still frozen staring at his screen. Adrien had no idea how right he was. His Lady and him were perfect for each other. Plagg was absolutely loving every second of this.
“P-Plagg.”
The black cat managed to calm down.
“Ye Ha HA! Yea Adrien?” Plagg responded between laughing fits.
“Marinette is Ladybug.”
Plagg sobered up quick.
“What... What makes you say that?” Plagg spoke, trying his best and failing at hiding the fact that Adrien was right. Thankfully Adrien was too out of it to notice.
Plagg pauses.
“Ladybug is my soulmate, Marinette scored perfect compatibility with me  on the soulmate app. Even with error included, the chances of that happening are…”
“It’s a silly quiz.” Plagg shouted. Tikki would kill him if Adrien found out at the wrong time. He had to play dumb.
Adrien thought about it, maybe he was overthinking it, plus Alya and Nino scored around 85%. Maybe the system was glitching out? 100% was unheard off according to what he found about the app, even with people who tried it and have been married for decades.
“I guess you are right… Besides, you answer questions each day, the percentages will shift. Maybe the system will correct itself, though I should ask Marinette what her thoughts are about the match up tomorrow. Though... even if it isn't Ladybug... Marinette is a pretty nice person to have good compatibility with.”
Adrien felt himself entertaining the thought of him and Marinette together. It seemed really, really nice. He found himself blushing at the thought. He quickly shook the thought off. He was getting ahead of himself. What if Marinette didn't feel the same way he did? What if Luka saw the compatibility score that Marinette got with him and decided not to date Marinette because of it. Marinette does really like that musician, what if Marinette hates him for ruining her chance at happiness!?
Adrien took a calming breath. He won't say anything, the app still needs to fine tune his profile. he is sure it will correct itself if it needs to within the two weeks, after that, he will look into it.
“I am sure that things will fix themselves.” Adrien said as he turned away from the cat Kwami, though part of him really hoped that the 100% would stay.

THERE I FINISHED part 1

Marichat May 2020
Hey everyone! Back to back posts, I know crazy right?! This one is a little shorter, but I love it all the same. I hope you do too! Cross-posted on FF.net and please don’t repost to another site without my permission! Other than that, enjoy!
Day 20 - 3am talks
"This is a life or death situation!"
Marinette rubbed her eyes sleepily, trying not to let the annoyance in her voice show, "Chat, you can't be serious."
"Of course I'm serious!" Chat Noir said from the end of her bed, perched on all fours with a scowl on his face. It had nearly been fifteen minutes already and this mewling Chat wouldn't leave her bed.
"No." She finally said flatly, laying back down and pulling the blankets up to her neck.
Chat pounced on top of her, making her huff, "PURRINCESS!"
"Chat get off!" She said as he gently bounced her over and over again into the bed. "It's three in the morning, I'm not helping you!"
He nuzzled his face into her shoulder with a pout, "But you are the only one who can help me! You are the only one capable of such magnificent feats. I need you!"
"Chat I'm tired. I've pulled three all-nighters in a row, I HAVE to get some sleep." She told him practically begging him to leave her alone, trying to push him off of her with no luck.
"You aren't the only one. I've had three akuma attacks in a row to deal with at all kinds of ungodly hours of the night." He let her push him off of her, only so that he could scoop her up in her blankets. She let out a short yelp, but he kept her cradled carefully in his arms as he stared at the tired annoyance in her bluebell eyes.
"Purrincess, the fate of the world is at stake." He told her seriously.
She gave him a deadpan stare, "It's too early for your dramatics. Figure it out on your own."
"You would risk the lives of everyone in Paris, all because you don't want to help me?" He asked in an extremely fake, shocked voice. "I can't believe you, Marinette. It wounds my heart to know you won't help me when I really need you. You are the only one I can turn to. You are the only one I can trust with a mission as important as this one."
She wiggled her way out of his arms and out of the blankets, sitting on her knees before grabbing his face in her hands. She let the very tip of her nose brush his, staring firmly into his brilliant green eyes. There was not an ounce of remorse in her voice.
"Needing homemade cookies at 3am is not going to cause the downfall of Paris, Chat Noir."
"But you said you were going to make me cookies! I've been dreaming about them for days, I NEED THEM!" Chat mewled, jutting out his lower lip.
"Come back when the sun is up, preferably when it is actually about to go back down." She said as she released him. She started fixing her sheets, as he sat unmoving, crossing his arms like the giant, tantrum throwing child he was.
"Fine, but when I can't show up to fight an akuma because I've been starved of princess Marinette cookies, my body weak and unable to move, YOU'LL have to be the one to answer to Ladybug." He tried, hoping she took the bait.
She snorted, "Oh please," she muttered, hitting him lightly in the face with her pillow, "Go home, Adrien."
"You're so mean, Marinette! I thought you loved me! Where did all of the love go!?" He tackled her back down onto the bed, hearing a small whoosh of air leave her.
She groaned as he wrapped his arms around her, "I do love you, more than anything in the world," she scratched lightly at the back of his wild mane, hearing him instantly starting to purr, "but I'm not making you cookies. End of discussion."
"But,"
"End. Of. Discussion." She enunciated each word carefully.
He told her upset, "I'm not leaving until I get cookies."
She snuggled into him, closing her eyes as the smell of his leather filled her with a sense of happiness, "Fine by me. I'm going back to sleep. You should too. Good night Kitty."
He hummed still sounding pouty, but asked a little softer, "Can I at least get a good night kiss?"
She rolled her eyes and looked up at him. There was a glint in his eye that she didn’t trust, and as she pressed a gentle kiss to his lips, he pulled her closer. He deepened the kiss instantly, turning her peck into a full blown, craving more, couldn't stop, WOULDN'T stop, passionate make-out.
God, she loved the way his lips moved against hers. She found herself moving up to meet him more every time he tried to pull back. She could feel the smile on his face as she pushed him down flat on the bed, her heart racing as she hovered over him. A deep rumble of appreciation moved through his chest into hers, his claws resting lightly on the back of her neck sent shivers down her spine as his fingers twined into her hair.
She finally had to pull away, breathing heavily as she watched the satisfied smirk on his face as he tried to catch his own breath. She sat up and moved away from him, grabbing a hair tie. She pulled it into a low bun and stood, hearing him ask confused, "Princess where are you going?"
She climbed down the ladder, her face still flushed, "To make cookies."
He beamed, asking in a sing-song voice, "Whhhy?"
"I'm never going to fall asleep now. Congratulations. You kissed your way to cookies at 3am. Good talk." She disappeared down the hatch and he rolled around happily on her bed in triumph.
Tikki flew out from her hiding place, stifling her own giggle, "You are terrible Adrien."
He smiled at her, "I know, but at least this way I can make sure she sleeps all day. She needs it. I know she'd still try to get up to go hang out with everyone later, and she needs to rest. I don't like seeing my bugaboo running so hard like this without any breaks."
Tikki smiled proudly at him, "Are you ever going to tell her that you know?"
He looked towards her trapdoor where she had disappeared, "I want her to tell me whenever she's ready. She already knows me on both sides, and I know she wants to tell me too. Ever since we started dating as our civilian selves, I can see how much it weighs on her to keep lying to me. It's just a matter of waiting now, and I'll wait for her for an entire lifetime if I have to. I love her for her, not for her spots."
"She knows that." Tikki tried to assure him, "Master Fu just drilled it into her that her identity was her greatest secret, but she'll come around. I know she will."
He nodded, "Right, and I'll be waiting right here with open arms when she does."

Shoryubug Challenge: [Week 1/46] 2020.
So...this is a really weird thing that I do, but every week I like to challenge myself with new vocab words to attempt to make my writing more flowery. I usually keep the stuff I write to myself, but right now I really wanted to share this with others, so that maybe everyone can attempt to do this. I know it's kinda stupid to a lot of people, but it's my way of trying to stay sharp and teach myself new things! That being said, what is written below; there is no point to it, this isn't one of the planned stories I intended to write, and this is the first time that I've done this sort of thing with Miraculous Ladybug, as usually I do it with Persona, and only share this with a small group of friends. The words for this week are: chthonian, reverie, renege, heuristic, devoir, daedal, indispensable, recapitulated, aplomb, callow, and crepitation. Anyway I hope you guys like whatever it is that I write! Kinda flying by the seat of my pants here xD  --Shoryubug
The chthonian state of Paris made it obvious that an Akuma had been running rampant in the city, and while Marinette had been resting through it, waking up to a deep warmth that made her uncomfortable was not something she had been looking forward to. More often than not when she woke up due to an Akuma, it was because of loud noises or a bitter chill, it was a major difference dealing with a soft blooming heat though, so as she pushed open her skylight and pulled herself out of the hole above her bed, she couldn’t help the gasp that escaped her, though that was in part to the fact that her phone had buzzed and snapped her from the reverie of seeing the strange shade of the world around her, almost apocalyptic in nature.
>>> Have you seen Ladybug?!
It was from Alya, of course, with a line of almost 20 other texts asking her if she knew where Adrien was if she had forgotten the plans if she was going to make an appearance at all, and of course, guilt swelled within the girl for a moment. She never intended to renege on her plans, but the price of being Ladybug had often meant that she made up for the late nights of fighting akumas by taking frequent naps throughout the day. She was almost certain that she’d set the alarm on her phone...but judging from the texts, if she had, then she managed to sleep through them...again.
<<< No, I haven’t...if I do see her I’ll let you know!
Slipping her phone back into her pocket after responding to the text, Marinette called out to her Kwami. “Tikki...we should definitely transform now!” Upon the words coming out, Tikki had flown up from her pillow to meet Marinette on the balcony.  “I wonder what happened to make Paris look like this!” Tikki squeaked with worry.  “I don’t know, but we’re definitely going to find out!” Marinette snapped before calling on the transformation magic and whipping her magical yo-yo out to swing about the city and find her way toward anything that might have given her a clue.
It had taken a while, but eventually, she had come across something useful, less than a clue, but more of a roguish leather-clad cat hero, and one of her favorite people in the city. “Chat Noir! Boy am I glad to see you!” she stated as she fell onto the same rooftop as her partner, then setting a hand on his shoulder to gain his attention. “Do you have any idea about the Akuma?” she asked before she felt him whip her around and cover her mouth with one of his leather hands, before he pointed toward the Grand Palais, where the akumatized victim stood, gazing about the city from ground level before they began to float about. It was eerie to bear witness to the spectacle before them, and a shiver crept up Marinette’s spine before Chat Noir pulled her back with him behind a chimney and helped brace her for the impact the sound of what seemed like thunder erupted and the rooftop they were perched on began to shake.  “It’s Mireille Caquet, and from what I can gather the Akuma is in her earring...every time I get in close I can’t quite manage to land a hit in on her, is everything okay though, you’ve been missing for about a half-hour!” his tone was heavily laced with worry, and suddenly a bit of guilt washed over her. “Good job on the research! But yeah...I’m fine, after the other night when we fought against Gigantitan again I didn’t get much sleep, and then again yesterday because of some personal stuff I needed to catch up on, so sleep hit me like a train...I only just woke up from a nap due to the heat of what she did back in the arrondissement I live in.” she confessed before giving him a slight grin. “Really though what all can she do, is it just making the world split apart to look like the underworld is merging with modern-day Paris?” she asked before he shook his head.  “Her name is Olympia, and as long as she thinks of a greek god she can emulate their powers, it’s basically just The Pharoah all over again, including with the contorting face shapes, it has to do with a costume party she was at earlier, everyone was dressed up as someone from mythology, and her costume was mocked by none other than Chloe...who is now trapped somewhere, but...now she’s looking for us,” he explained which made Marinette’s face contort in strange shapes for a moment.  “How...what powers make her rip the world open like that?!” she asked before he gave her an unimpressed look.  “Poseidon, he isn’t just the god of the sea you know. The fire comes from Hestia, she has a giant gathering of followers when she becomes Aphrodite that makes it seem like Zombizou 2.0, and when she’s on the hunt for us, she’s using the power of Artemis. We’ve really got our work cut out for us this time Buginette.” Taking a step forward on the roof, the sound of the shingles' crepitation was loud under his weight made her cringe, convinced that he was going to fall through the roof they stood upon.  “We have to figure something out to beat her fast then...I’m not sure we can handle all the heavy influential power behind each mask that she wears.” Marinette’s mind raced as she attempted to figure out just what they needed. The problem was that she only knew what Chat told her...so she didn’t know the exact pantheon that Mireille was going by as this akuma... “Chat, you said that she used Hestia for the fire, right? Like you heard her call out Hestia’s name?” she asked, her eyes dancing about searching and scanning for ideas and answers.  “Yeah, why?” he asked, his voice filled with curiosity. Most people had assumed that the crime-fighting duo was well versed in these fights by now, and while they should have been, it was moments like this that brought to light just how callow both heroes were, though he kept his gaze on her own, as if he were waiting for her to recapitulate the idea that was clearly forming in her mind. It was a heuristic process to go against any akuma most of the time, but this one had seemed to have that extra flare of danger, one that had meant that the duo couldn’t let up even for a moment once they had set upon the plan Ladybug was working through, it was their devoir to do so after all, and the city relied on them for it, as well as the final cleanup of damages outside of putting an end to the reign of each akumas malicious intent.
“First we’re going to check what my charm gives us, then we’re going to try to force her to use Dionysus, since she already used Hestia, she shouldn’t be able to use him, which means she’ll be vulnerable for a moment, and we can go in for the attack!” she offered, before calling upon her power and getting...a mirror. A very familiar rounded mirror. “Looks like Mister Bug’s luck strikes again, eh?” she offered before giving a sigh. “So what do you think we should do to distract her?” she offered, noticing the cheeky grin affixed to her partner’s face. While most would regard him as an expendable part of the heroic force, Marinette always tried her best to show him how he was indispensable, especially after their time wielding each other’s miraculous.
“Leave that to me, you mind if I take your charm this time?” he asked before she couldn’t help but smile at the way he acted with aplomb.  “It’s all yours Kitty.” she said handing it off to him, musing over the daedal nature of each charm for a moment in her mind and trying to figure out just what exactly he intended to do with the red and black spotted object.

Enjoy!
Read on Ao3
“...And it is my hope that our heroes, Ladybug and Chat Noir, will respond as quickly as they are able to this offer. Thank you for your time.” Mayor Andre gave a nod of his head and stepped away from the podium, ignoring the sudden wall of questions from reporters in the audience.
Marinette turned off the television just before the news anchor began their commentary. The mayor had made the proposal just yesterday and it was still a major piece of news - all the more reason she had been considering it. People seemed worried that they hadn’t seen either of their heroes in over a week.
Marinette looked over at her partner. It had been a few days since she had woken up and recovery was proving slow. Just walking down the stairs and into the living room had been exhausting. The one good news is that the pain had largely subsided and with the help of some painkillers there wasn’t much more than a dull throbbing when she moved. All of this added complications to the mayor’s offer of a charity banquet in their honor.
“They don’t need us to go,” Adrien began, still looking at the blank television, his face shadowed by the one light above them. It was getting late, but before Marinette could go to sleep they needed to decide on what they were going to do.
“Maybe, but if we promise to attend, then they will definitely be able to sell more tickets for a higher price.” She frowned. “Besides, the whole thing is in our honor. If we don’t go, it might not even happen.”
He looked into her eyes and she saw the concern that was plain on his face. “We don’t know if you’ll be better by then. And the more rest you get-”
Throwing her hands up with only a twinge of pain, she exclaimed, “I’m already getting rest, Adrien. One night at a public event won’t undo all that.”
“It might.” He crossed his arms, but she could tell he was starting to waver.
“I’ll be fine. I’m tougher than you think, kitty.”
“I suppose…”
“We need to let Paris know that we’re still out here, watching over them. That the good guys won and they are still protected. Besides,” she held out her arms as an invitation and Adrien sat beside her on the couch and held her in his embrace, “we’ll be going together. I know you’ll be right there if I need help.”
“Just like always,” he said as kissed the top of her head. After a few minutes, he swept her up into his arms and carried her back upstairs. Normally, she’d insist that she walk up herself, but she was only barely awake at that point.
In fact, by the time her head hit her pillow, she was asleep. But Adrien didn’t lay down beside her like usual. Instead, Chat Noir left through the skylight.
They might be going to this banquet, but he was going to be sure it was on their terms.
-----------------
Another week passed before the day of the banquet arrived. Despite Marinette’s most fervent hopes, she hadn’t improved a whole lot more in the meantime. The only saving grace was that she hadn’t needed to go to school since it was winter break. While that didn’t help her figure out how she was going to handle the banquet, it at least meant that she hadn’t had to miss school.
Adrien knelt down in front of her as she brushed her hair and rested his arms on her knees. “Don’t worry about it, Marinette. I borrowed a wheelchair and stashed it at the place the banquet is being held. I can carry you there if I need to.”
“Thanks, Adrien. But…” She frowned. “I don’t know if the building they will be using is wheelchair accessible.”
“Well he promised it would be so-” He was silenced when she put a hand over his mouth.
“Woah there kitty. Who promised?”
He blinked innocently at her as she removed her hand. “I… might have visited the mayor and made some… requests. To make sure that they were as accommodating as possible.”
"Adrien! You know I don’t want you to coddle me!”
"It was more for my sake, my lady. If I saw you swamped by a bunch of nosy, prodding reporters while you're recovering from a near fatal magical overload, I might get a little testy." He flashed her his biggest, most innocent smile.
As much as she wanted to be upset about him going behind her back to do this, she couldn’t find it in herself to be anything but grateful. It meant that she wouldn’t have to push herself too hard to make it through tonight.
So, with a sigh, she leaned forward to press a kiss to his forehead. “Thanks, chaton.” She shooed him off so she could stand up. “I think it’s about time we headed out, don’t you think?” He smiled and nodded. “Tikki, spots on!”
“Plagg, claws out!”
Marinette felt more stable once the suit was on, but she understood it was only a temporary measure. She stepped over to her bed and grabbed the skirt she would be wearing for the evening.
“Oh! You’re getting dressed.” Chat said with mock surprise. “Let me just turn away for a moment.”
She snorted as she slipped the black skirt on over her suit. Now it just looked like she was wearing a long sleeved dress. He turned his back to her and moved over to her dresser, where he had stored a lot of his spare clothes. He’d practically moved in during the time she had been unconscious and she couldn’t help but be grateful. Having him constantly nearby had done wonders in keeping her sane. She wasn’t sure she’d have been able to endure being cooped up otherwise. And something told her the same was true for him.
“Ta-da!” She looked up at him and grinned. Fastened under his bell was a red bow tie that matched her suit.
Hip checking him, she cooed, “Ooo, you’re looking more handsome than usual, kitty.”
He placed a kiss on her hand. “And you are absolutely stunning, bugaboo.” She squeaked when he swiftly scooped her up into his arms. “Shall we leave?”
“Paris awaits us,” she said and kissed his cheek.
The trip didn’t take too long - possibly by luck, possibly because Adrien had picked out a venue that was close by. Either way, they arrived within ten minutes of running along rooftops. They snuck in the backdoor, let in by the sparse staff milling about in the back halls. When she left Chat Noir’s arms, it was to be put into a wheelchair that had been left waiting for her. As much as she preferred walking on her own, regardless of the pain, she had to admit that it was nice to have her beloved partner pushing her along.
She braced herself for the crowd as the massive double doors opened before them, only to be surprised when the great room seemed sparsely occupied. Sure, the massive size was probably making the crowd seem smaller, but still…
“Another concession I won for you,” Chat whispered in her ear. “Limited tickets and only a couple reporters. And don’t worry - those tickets were sold at auction to the highest bidders. Plenty of money got raised anyway and you don’t get swarmed. Win-win, right?”
The knot of worry in her gut untwisted and she let out a relieved sigh. Another problem that her doting boyfriend had anticipated and fixed in advance. Although even now, there was a surprised murmur going through the well-dressed party goers as Chat pushed her towards the seat of honor at the back. There was a table and two ornate chairs with high backs placed at the end of a red carpet that went down the middle of the room. All the decorations existed to direct attention to it, and that’s where Marinette would be spending the rest of the night.
She took a deep breath to steady her nerves. Getting attention as Ladybug was nothing out of the ordinary, of course. But she wasn’t quite used to this kind of attention.
A few hours went by as party goers would stop and visit. Practically everyone here was a celebrity of some kind. Some were familiar. Jagged Stone shook both of their hands and promised an epic rock song commemorating their victory over evil. Despite his outward excitement at the prospect, she could feel the hollowness of Chat’s smile.
It hadn’t been that long ago that he’d found out his father was Hawkmoth. He’d practically thrown himself into caring for her and she knew he did it out of love, but at least part of the zeal behind it had to be just distracting himself. If helping her was keeping him sane, then she’d be willing to swallow her pride and let herself be helped. But she knew that it would be a long and difficult road of recovery for the both of them… and there was no magic tonic to help heal Chat.
Unless, of course, one considered love to be a magic tonic.
Their last guest was Nadja, one of the few reporters allowed into the party. One of the few concessions Chat had been forced to give into was a small interview. And although Marinette was completely drained by the time that interview came around, she knew that it had to be done. This was a big reason she’d wanted to do this banquet after all - to give peace of mind to the people of Paris.
The first few questions were about what she expected. How they found out about Hawkmoth, how the battle went down, what happened to her. Withholding only a few key details - such as the location of that final showdown - they explained as best they could.
“Nathalie Sancoeur, the assistant of Gabriel Agreste, is believed to have fled Paris once the discovery of Hawkmoth’s identity was made clear. Do you have any intentions of assisting in the manhunt for her?”
“No,” Marinette said, sparing Chat from having to comment. “She is not armed with a miraculous, meaning that law enforcement will be more than adequate to catch her. Besides, we have no intention of scouring the rest of France, which would leave Paris unguarded.”
“Speaking of the Agreste household - can you tell us what has become of Adrien Agreste? After your fight with Hawkmoth, he seems to have completely vanished.”
“Don’t worry about him,” Chat chimed in with a smile. “He’s perfectly safe and being cared for. It was agreed that some time outside the spotlight would be the best for him in these tough times.”
“It was a brave thing he did for Paris. I’m sure most Parisians would agree that he deserves a vacation,” Nadja said with a polite smile. “And what about his father, Hawkmoth? What were his goals, should he have ever succeeded in capturing your miraculous?”
Marinette thought back to the underground complex with its webs of pipes all funneled into the glass sarcophagus that housed his ‘dead’ wife.
“The sad truth is that we may never know,” Marinette lied. “Unless Hawkmoth himself tells us, of course.”
“Speaking of which - do you have any idea what caused Gabriel Agreste’s coma? Or if he will ever wake up?”
“His abuse of the miraculous is to blame for the coma. As for when he will wake up, that’s anybody’s guess. Magic can be very unpredictable.”
Nadja made some notes before looking back up at them and smiling. “I just have a few more questions. Nothing nearly so heavy as the previous, but no less important to some people.” Her eyes gleamed as she looked between them. “It has been plain to most people today that you two seem closer than ever…”
At one point, having to dodge questions about her relationship with Chat Noir would’ve been annoying. Now that the two of them had laid their feelings of each other out, it was almost fun to give Nadja the run around. It wouldn’t be a good idea to confirm their relationship… not yet, anyway.
But it was her last question that gave them both pause.
“Now that Hawkmoth has been defeated and his miraculous taken away… What’s next for the heroes of Paris?”

After the Fall Ch.13 Disconnection
LoganLight, AO3
Plagg waited until Luka was fast asleep before going to Adrien. Their earlier conversation had left him deeply unsatisfied.
He phased through the window to find his kid in bed.
"Plagg?"
But not asleep.
"What're you doing up?" Plagg asked, because he was a contrary being.
"Can't sleep. C'mere."
Plagg floated into Adrien's hair. "So, what brought on your sudden desire to talk to Ladybug?"
"I told Nino."
"Another one? So, that's why he and Kagami were double-teaming Chloe! Anyone else?"
"No, can't risk it."
"And the superhero menagerie?"
". . . You haven't noticed?"
" I make it a point not to, so no."
"Huh . . . I'm sorry, about earlier. It was important."
"Always is . . . I'm sorry, too."
"Who're you and what've you done with Plagg?"
"What? What'd I do?"
"You never apologize!"
Plagg wanted to protest, he really did. Instead he tugged at Adrien's hair and muttered: "First time for everything."
"Ow. Yeah, guess that's true . . . . . ."
". . . . . . Thanks for the cheese."
"Well, I couldn't let you starve now, could I? . . . Do you think Luka noticed all the Camembert I leave in the fridge when I'm over there?"
"You mean the Camembert I eat before anyone sees it? No, don't think so."
Adrien smiled.
". . . How's Marinette?"
"You're asking me?"
"You've got class with her all day. I get twenty minutes per akuma."
"Point . . . She's been better since Panthera kissed her that first time."
"Hmm." Plagg decided not to voice his disagreement. "That why you brought up your crush?"
Adrien was silent for a moment. ". . . Maybe. I wanted-"
"I know," Plagg soothed. It had cost Adrien enough saying it the first time. "I heard. This gonna be a regular thing now?'
"Talking to Marinette? I think so? Probably not such heavy topics but I don't want to make it weird."
"It's already weird, kid. You know she's Ladybug."
"Yeah . . . but if it keeps Alya happy then . . ."
"Not sure that's the best reason to start talking to the person you've ignored for half a year."
". . . I know. But this is a good thing! I didn't realize . . . how much I missed her."
". . . You gonna tell her about Chat Noir?" Adrien tensed and Plagg purred in response. "Too soon, got it."
The tension didn't leave the boy. "Plagg?"
Well, this can't be good.
"A-about earlier. When you were with me instead of Luka . . ."
Oh, by the Nine Lords of the Underworld!
Plagg floated above Adrien's face to better glare at him. "No."
"But-"
"I barely get to see you! I am not going to stop visiting!"
Adrien sat up and Plagg floated further away. "What if an akuma attacked right now? And Ladybug needed Panthera? What if something like Sandboy happened!?"
"Well, considering that she just took on four akuma, and a brainwashed Cat and Turtle, and won; I'd say she can handle it."
". . . Carapace was brainwashed?"
"Very. And Ladybug took care of it like she always does."
Adrien didn't say anything, just sat on his bed.
". . . Honestly, I thought you'd focus more on Panthera getting hit than anything else."
"Why didn't he say- No, no, she was there. He couldn't . . ."
". . . We having the same conversation?"
"How were they? Did they seem okay?"
Plagg thought about the kiss. "Yeah, they seemed pretty okay. A little too okay."
"What?"
"So, there's no reason for me to go anywhere! Got it!?"
". . . Yeah . . . Yeah, okay."
Adrien laid back down and Plagg sat on the boy's forehead with his arms crossed. He pretended not to notice the boy sniffling.
Stupid kid!
Selflessness was a Black Cat's most endearing quality . . . And the most exasperating.
". . . How's Luka?"
"I told ya, he's okay."
"Yeah, but how is he?"
"He gets that same annoying look you did when he thinks of Ladybug."
Adrien chuckled. "And?"
"He doesn't like lying to his family. He thinks being in the band is good for you. He gets along well with Rena Rouge and Carapace. He's finally stopped asking me about you, er, Chat Noir."
"And you?"
"What do ya mean? My charming personality speaks for itself!"
"Plagg." Adrien raised an eyebrow.
". . . He might be under the impression that I don't like Panthera as much as Chat Noir . . ."
Adrien's breath hitched and Plagg could practically hear the boy's thoughts wrestling with each other. ". . . Do you?"
"I don't self analyze."
"Plagg!" Adrien grabbed him and sat up again, holding him in front of the boy's face.
"You can't- It's important that- Aahhh!" Adrien cradled Plagg to his chest. "You're impossible!"
". . . See, this is why we don't talk about Luka!"
Adrien nodded.
". . . He thinks Marinette would be a good girlfriend for you."
Adrien laughed as he collapsed back onto his bed. Again. "Luka pairing me with his girlfriend! Oh, that's rich! See, this is why secret identities are terrible!" Adrien muffled his laughter with his pillows.
Plagg floated above his kid, Adrien having released him, and felt warmth at this genuine mirth. Adrien had laughed before but the occasions were sparse. The boy's shoulders shook as he breathed deeply. An ear to ear grin firmly in place as he settled down.
Adrien stretched as a huge yawn escaped him. Plagg pulled the sheets up to Adrien's shoulders. The boy was struggling to stay awake. His eyes drooped closed before fluttering open. Plagg placed an appendage on each eyelid and held them shut.
Adrien shook his head slowly trying to dislodge Plagg. "Noooo! Just a little-" He let out a massive yawn. "-longer!"
"It's two!" Plagg grumbled. "You're supposed to be the responsible one in this relationship!"
Adrien giggled. "The sixteen year-old teenager is more responsible than the universe-old deity!"
"Your brain is much more annoying when it lacks sufficient oxygen, ya know that?"
Adrien yawned irreverently but settled himself into a comfortable position. Plagg did likewise. It wasn't long before he heard the boy's soft snores.
Plagg didn't want to leave but he felt his own eyes drooping. Sleeping here meant Luka, who was an unreasonably early riser, would find him gone. He was on thin ice with his disappearing acts as it was.
So, like always Plagg roused himself. Again he noted how peaceful Adrien seemed in sleep.
"Goodbye, Adrien," he said more for himself than for the boy. Because last time he didn't get the chance.
He won't make that mistake again.

I’ll Sing a Song Beside You- 13

Chapter 13
He’s groggy when he wakes up, confused and off-kiltered. He immediately realizes that he’s not in his room, which throws him off a bit until he recognizes the smell. It smells like cookies and floral shampoo and home. Sighing, he stuffs his face into Marinette’s pillow, content to drift back to sleep. He doesn’t know how he got here but he’s assuming it has to do with an Akuma, and his consciousness means Ladybug defeated it already.
“I’m all for a good cat nap but I’m pretty sure you’re needed at a shoot,” Plagg says.
“Go away,” he counters, snuggling further into his girlfriend’s bed. “Wait, Plagg? What are you doing here?”
“What do you mean what am I doing here? I go everywhere you go.”
“Yeah,” he says, slowly sitting up, “but if you’re here, that means I’m—” Adrien looks down to find his two tan hands, gloveless and bare.
He yelps and scrambles to pull the covers up, as though his whole body were naked.
“Why am I Adrien?”
“Did the Akuma do something else to you? You’re not usually this slow. You’re always Adrien.”
“Yes, no, I’m aware of who I am. But why am I in Marinette’s bed as Adrien? What happened?”
“You got knocked out by a knitting needle,” Plagg says, flat. “Real heroic. And you only had a minute before the transformation would wear off so Ladybug brought you here.”
“Oh,” he says. He can kind of remember what happened before getting hit. It’s a little embarrassing that he was so easily taken out by an old lady with yarn and needle but if that’s the worst thing that happened during the fight then he’ll take it. “Did she, um, see who I am?”
Plagg holds silent, probably to be dramatic, before finally saying, “No idea. I wasn’t paying attention.”
“What do you mean you weren’t paying attention? You were right there!”
“So were you.”
“I was knocked out.”
“And I had cheese. We were both preoccupied.”
Adrien glares at his kwami for a solid 20 seconds before calling on his transformation. He’s needed at a shoot on the other side of the city and does not have time to fret about his identity.
So naturally, that’s all he does the entire shoot.
Right now he feels there’s a solid 50/50 chance Marinette saw his identity. He hasn’t been able to check his phone to see if she tried contacting him but even if there’s nothing there, that’s no indication of whether she knows or not. He needed quite some time to digest her reveal and he’s assuming it’ll take just as long for her, if not even longer.
He knows he was Adrien when he woke up but she might have dumped him and ran, meaning she wouldn’t have seen. The fact that he was in her room instead of his own definitely supports that theory. In fact, the more he thinks about it, the more it makes sense that she doesn’t know who he is. The only thing keeping him from writing the whole thing off is this nagging feeling in the back of his head.
By the time he’s finished, Adrien has a pounding headache and exactly 0 messages from his girlfriend. Tomorrow, at least, he’ll get his answers.
--
Or not.
He gets to school early; on the off chance Marinette actually makes it to school before the bell, he’s hoping they could talk.
He spends the next twenty minutes coming up with different conversation starters and reasons why he’s standing in front of her locker but he doesn’t come up with anything good. If she knows about him, he doesn’t need to do much but if she doesn’t then he needs a better excuse than, “you have a pretty cool locker.”
It winds up being all for moot when the warning bell rings with no sign of Mari. Disappointed, he reluctantly makes his way to class. Only to see Marinette sitting at her desk already. The moment their eyes meet, Marinette blushes and starts whispering to Alya.
That’s...certainly a reaction. But he can’t really say whether it’s because she knows or not because Marinette always acts weird around him.
He slips into his seat, once again too aware of her presence behind him. He doesn’t have a chance to talk to her before class starts so he’s left wondering.
Wondering whether she knows. If she purposefully avoided her locker so he wouldn’t be able to catch her before school—because obviously Marinette would be able to predict his moves if she knows who he is.
He wonders whether her reaction to seeing him was due to knowing he’s Chat Noir. Things with Marinette haven’t been easy since she rejected him but she hasn’t straight up avoided him like that in years.
Mostly, he wonders if he’s just overreacting.
“Adrien.”
Adrien startles in his seat and looks up to see the teacher staring down at him expectantly.
“Um, can you repeat the question,” he asks timidly. He can hear the giggles and whispers behind him as he gets reprimanded for not paying attention; Adrien Agreste always knows the answer and is always prepared.
After class isn’t any better. Alya grabs onto him before he can leave the room. “We were talking about eating lunch at the park today,” she says. “You in?”
Adrien glances at Marinette—who is staring at her shoes—before nodding to Alya. “Absolutely. I’ll meet you guys there.”
Even if he can’t speak to her one-on-one, he’ll have a better idea after spending some time with her.
He doesn’t have any other morning classes with her so he’s stuck with only his thoughts to entertain himself until lunch. Adrien takes longer at his locker than necessary, trying to psyche himself up for what will undoubtedly be an uneventful lunch but just the thought of having to see her again makes him anxious. Eventually deciding he’s just being dumb, Adrien takes a steadying breath and heads over.
Marinette, Nino, and Alya are all there by the time he makes it to the park. Adrien plops himself next to Nino.
“Hey! We didn’t think you were gonna make it,” Nino says, clapping Adrien on the back.
“Sorry, I got held up. What’d I miss?”
“Nino and I were actually talking about helping Rose with her… thing,” Alya interjects, nudging Marinette. “So, yeah. We were just waiting for you so Marinette wouldn’t be alone but now you’re here to keep her company.”
“Alya,” Marinette warns. But Alya is a woman on a mission. She rises, stares at Nino before he gets up as well and they make their way back to the school.
Clearly Marinette still hasn’t told her about their kiss or her secret relationship.
Adrien clears his throat and tries to come up with something to say. Even though there isn’t anyone at their table, there are still a lot of people milling about. They’re not private enough to properly talk.
“You have hair,” Marinette finally says.
Adrien looks up to see her beautiful, blushing face and feels his own face heating up. “Uh, yeah,” he says, scratching the back of his neck. What did that mean? Why does she have to be so awkward?
“It-it’s nice?”
“My hair?”
“Yeah. It’s good hair.”
“Thanks. You too. Have good hair.” He cringes. She’s somehow managed to infect him with improper grammar and stilted conversation.
“Thank you.”
They fall back into silence and Adrien wants to pull his ‘good’ hair out. He still, somehow, has no idea if she knows and it’s driving him crazy. He almost wants to reveal himself then and there just to figure it out. Not for the first time, Adrien finds himself praying for an akuma so he can properly talk to Ladybug.
Instead, he quietly mentions the time and the two trek back to the school without another word.
--
Marinette bumps into him at the end of the day.
“Oh! Adrien, I was looking for you.”
His heart picks up. There’s too many people around for this to be a confession but he can’t help but dream a bit. Why else would she be looking for him, after all?
“What’s up?”
“I—I didn’t understand the physics today. Would you be able to help me out?”
His face falls for a second before he plasters a polite smile back on. “Sure. I have fencing in about an hour so I was going to wait in the library. Would you like to join me?”
“I—I mean, I can but I was th-thinking we could go back to my house? We can have snacks and hang out in my room?”
“I don’t really have a lot of time. It’d be easier to do it here. I can always come over another day though.”
“No, it’s fine,” she pouts. “Let’s just go to the library.”
It’s not until they’re 30 minutes into physics review and Marinette gets yet another question correct that Adrien realizes he might be a bit daft. He could be looking for clues that aren’t there but Marinette doesn’t actually seem to be confused about today’s lesson. She might have only asked to get him alone. And he had to ruin it by taking her to a library filled with other students.
Adrien slams his head against the table and lets out a low moan.
“Are-are you okay?”
“I’m so dumb,” he whines.
He feels a slender hand grab his and he looks up to see Marinette smiling softly at him. He unconsciously leans closer.
“You’re one of the smartest people I know,” she says.
“I don’t really feel that way,” he says, slouching back onto the table.
“You are a tad dense,” she admits.
Adrien huffs out a laugh before sitting up straight. “Are we talking about the same thing?”
“I’m not sure? What are you talking about?”
Adrien stares at her for longer than is polite, hoping that her face will reveal what he is dying to know. “I’m sorry I made you come to the library,” he finally says. “I should have gone to your house.”
“It’s alright,” she says, patting his shoulder, “there’ll be plenty of time for that.”
--
Adrien is sorely tempted to visit Marinette as Chat but he knows she’ll get mad at him, especially if his hunch is wrong and she doesn’t know. He settles for taking taking a long shower to relax his nerves.
When he’s done, he puts on a pair of boxers, using his towel to ring out his hair.
“Aren’t you going to put on pants,” Plagg asks.
“I’m getting to it,” Adrien says. He absentmindedly checks his phone and is disappointed when he sees Marinette hasn’t texted him.
“You should probably get to it sooner.”
Adrien looks up from his phone to glare at his nagging kwami before letting out a very unmanly shriek. Ladybug is at his window.
He slowly makes his way over to her, opening the latch with shaky hands.
“S-sorry,” she says, blushing furiously. “I should have called before coming or something.” She’s looking anywhere but at him and he realizes that he’s still only wearing boxers.
“Oh, I, yeah. I’ll just, um, put clothes on. Hold on.” Adrien all but runs into his closet and grabs the first thing he sees.
He returns to see Ladybug sitting tensely on his couch. He sits as far away from her as possible on the couch and faces forward.
“So… Come here often,” he asks.
“You—” Ladybug lets out a long breath. “You’re the most ridiculous person I’ve ever met.”
Adrien grins and turns to face her. “I can’t seem to help myself when I’m with you.”
“I’m really embarrassed,” Ladybug says.
“Why?” If anything, Adrien should be the embarrassed one. For so many reasons.
“All the things I said about you as Adrien and Chat,” Marinette says. Adrien feels any remaining tension leave him. “And then I rejected you so I could date you, oh my gosh, I can’t even imagine what you must think of me.”
“I think you’re amazing. Honestly, it’s really flattering that you liked me twice.”
“Ugh,” Ladybug says, hiding her face in her hands.
“Are you upset that I’m me?”
“What kind of stupid question is that?” she asks, looking up to glare at him.
“You’ve been acting weird all day and now I’m making you uncomfortable.”
“I said I’m embarrassed not uncomfortable. This is better than I could have ever hoped for.”
Adrien’s heart flips in his chest and he slides closer to her, unable to stop himself. “I could say the same thing.”
Ladybug blushes and closes the distance between them, allowing their shoulders to brush. Adrien pulls his arm out so he can wrap it around her, revelling in the way she automatically leans into him.
“I used to have pictures of you all over my wall,” Ladybug says.
“Wait, what?”
“I told you that I liked Adrien Agreste. What I didn’t tell you was that I was borderline obsessed and took full advantage of the fact that my crush was a model.”
“I never saw them,” he says, his heart pounding for some unknown reason.
“That’s because I took them down whenever I knew Adrien was coming over and permanently took them down so I could invite Chat Noir in.”
“Oh,” is all Adrien can think to say. Then, “so, can I kiss you now, or…?”
Ladybug moans before sliding away from him. “You can’t do that.”
“Do what?”
“With your face.”
“What’s wrong with my face,” he asks, bringing a hand self-consciously to wipe anything offensive off his face.
“Nothing. That’s the problem.”
“Mari,” Adrien whines. He shifts a bit so he can lay comfortably on the couch with his head in her lap. She might have rejected his kiss but he’s still sure they’re good. Her hands absentmindedly running through his hair is enough of a confirmation of this. “Stop confusing me.”
“I’m not used to Adrien saying things like that. And knowing you’re Chat makes it so much worse. But I’m also still trying to wrap my head around the fact that I’ve been dating Adrien Agreste this entire time? And, like, I want to kiss you but every time I let my thoughts wander too far I start to feel guilty. Like I’m cheating on Chat or something which is ridiculous because you’re Chat.”
“It took me a while to really let it sink in, too. We can slow things down until you’re ready.”
“You’re sweet but I used to have fantasies of making out with you in your room while I’m transformed and I really want to do that.”
Adrien abruptly sits up. “Oh my gosh, yes please. I’ve wanted that since I met you. Yes. Let’s do that now.”
Ladybug laughs before grabbing his shirt and pulling him into her. A chill runs down his spine when she wraps her gloved hands around his neck, sinking even further into each other. Fourteen year-old Adrien probably would have had an aneurysm by now. Present Adrien, though, can’t help but yearn for more skin-to-skin contact.
“M’lady,” Adrien asks, his mouth still feathering her lips, “would you be able to—”
She doesn’t even let him finish his question before she releases her transformation, leaving just Marinette and Adrien to stare at each other. Her bare hands slip under his shirt and she lets them travel up and down his back.
“I love you, Marinette Ladybug Dupain-Cheng,” Adrien whispers before tucking himself into her neck and gently pressing a kiss beneath her ear.
“You’re such a dork,” Marinette giggles. Her hands stop on his lower back and she nuzzles even closer to him. “I love you, too, Adrien Chat Noir Agreste.”
“Alright, I think I’ve kept quiet long enough,” Plagg says, flying over to them. “Can I have my cheese now?”
“Plagg! Really?”
He can hear Marinette’s laughter while he fetches the cheese from his mini-fridge and his heart lifts. There’s no more secrets between them—no more masks—and when he turns back around to the smiling faces of Tikki, Plagg, and Marinette, he feels himself grin back, finally home.

Ladybug’s earrings gave the third warning as she ushered him inside her room. She had yet to answer his question, but she decided it would be best to put off any talking until they were both safely out of public eye, just in case.
‘Don’t tell me you don’t know where you are,’ she jested settling him on the loft bed.
‘I know where I am,’ he huffed. ‘But why am I here?’
‘Marinette is a friend,’ she evaded. ‘I’m sure she won’t mind and this is the only place I could take you on such short notice.’
‘Oh,’ he muttered. He didn’t look happy to be here.
‘Hey,’ she put her hand over his. ‘Obviously I couldn’t take you to my house. We don’t want any more reveals today, Chaton.’
‘Yeah, sorry about that,’ he dropped his gaze to the pink comforter.
‘You have nothing to be sorry about,’ this came out sharper than she intended. ‘I hate this stupid mask more than you think. If it wasn’t for Tikki-’
‘If it wasn’t for Tikki, Hawkmoth would already know who you are,’ Adrien squeezed her hand.
‘But maybe if I revealed myself to you earlier, it wouldn’t have come to this,’ she shook her head. She couldn’t stop thinking about it. He had been upset because of her, of her identity, of his quest to find her. If he had known all along, he wouldn’t have been at risk, he wouldn’t have been Hawkmoth’s target.
‘Stop that,’ Plagg interjected. ‘I can practically hear you taking the blame.’
‘But maybe-’
‘As Adrien likes to say, maybugs don’t fly in June,’ the black kwami countered. ‘It wasn’t your fault, it wasn’t mine, Tikki’s nor Adrien’s. Miraculouses always come with a price, they are in equal parts a reward and a burden. What happened today however, that is all on Hawkmoth.’
‘But-’ she tried to argue and was interrupted by the fourth beep of her earrings.
‘You have to go,’ the boy pointed out. ‘I’ll be fine.’
‘You’re sure?’ she hated to leave him now, but she didn’t have any choice.
‘Yes, go,’ he repeated.
Ladybug ran down the steps, thinking how surreal it was that Adrien, no, Chat, was now resting in her bed after becoming a supervillain.
‘You realize, no more reckless stunts from now on, Chat?’ she teased nearing the trap door. ‘Now that I know who you are, I can make your life miserable should you be so careless in risking your life?’
‘Hey, not fair,’ he pouted. ‘Only because I can’t reach your civilian self to reiterate! Like you haven’t done any risky stuff,’ he complained. ‘Even more often than me!’
She stuck her tongue at him and closed the trapdoor before the pillow he threw at her hit its target.
Phew.
A breath of relief escaped her lips as she climbed down the steps. The apartment was empty, so she made a dash for the bathroom before her transformation finally faded.
‘You both did amazingly well today,’ Tikki praised her as soon as she was out of her miraculous. ‘You’ve earned your rest too. Go to him. I think he has things to tell Marinette as well.’
‘He found me,’ she hummed under her breath. ‘What do I do now?’
‘Whatever you want,’ the red kwami offered. ‘We’ve passed the point it was necessary to keep the identities secret. You already know his and I doubt Hawkmoth will try targeting Adrien again.’
‘Hmmm,’ Marinette tapped her lip thoughtfully. Was she ready to show him the girl behind the mask? She had been wanting to reveal herself to Adrien and to Chat for so long, but learning that they were one and the same person had been quite a shock. He went through so much in just a few hours. Maybe this particular revelation could wait a day or two? The boy certainly could use a breather.
Turning this idea in her head she took her time refreshing herself a bit, and then she went to the kitchen to collect some snacks and lemonade. Outside students were leaving school, the classes were probably cancelled. All the better for them, Marinette thought heading upstairs.
Adrien’s voice made her stop just in front of the trap door.
‘Plagg, you need to hide,’ the boy ordered.
‘Why?’ the black kwami didn’t sound eager to do as he was told.
‘Are you kidding me? Marinette is a civilian,’ there was an edge of exasperation in Adrien’s voice. ‘She’d be freaked out by a flying cat. She has no idea I’m Chat Noir and we should keep it this way for her safety.’
‘Oh, right,’ Plagg muttered darkly. Judging by the silence that fell over the room, he disappeared from view.
Once again Marinette hesitated. Her partner had just been akumatized over this, and yet her lucky charms - on both sides of the mask had given him strength to fight Hawkmoth all by himself. Didn’t he deserve to know?
With a heavy sigh Marinette entered the room.
Adrien jumped when he saw her and turned a bright shade of red in an instant.
‘Hi! Um… hi!’ he squeaked. ‘Did Ladybug…?’
She waved her hand dismissively, ‘Oh, yeah, she told me she brought you here. It’s okay.’
‘Thank you,’ he dropped his shoulders in relief.
Before she climbed up the bed, Marinette left a small plate with a few pieces of camembert on her desk, out of Adrien’s sight. She set the tray over the blankets. ‘I have some snacks and lemonade, but if you’d prefer something from the bakery I can go down and get it for you.’
For some reason he looked even more embarrassed. ‘This is more than fine, Marinette. You… you don’t need to do this.’
‘I want to do this,’ she assured him hotly. ‘I was worried about you!’ Well, she’d been mortified, but he didn’t need to know that.
Adrien’s phone chirped in his pocket. He fished it out and blinked at the amount of messages in his inbox.
‘Seems like the school was canceled,’ he commented. As he went through the texts his eyes got bigger and bigger.
‘What is it?’ Marinette stopped herself before she could glimpse the messages on his screen.
‘Basically our whole class wants to know how am I,’ his voice trembled. ‘They said not to worry. They all have been there and if I want to talk about it… and so on and so on.’ He tried to make it sound like it wasn’t a big deal, but he was clearly touched. ‘Oh, and apparently Chloe is taking care of the media,’ he snickered.
‘You mean she’s bullying the media?’ Marinette giggled. ‘Good, they definitely deserve it.’
‘Nathalie’s asking, where am I,’ Adrien whispered. ‘She wants to take me home. I’d better reply to that.’
That was understandable, but something in his voice told her, he didn’t want to leave yet. Marinette put her hand on the screen, interrupting his typing.
‘Stay with me,’ she asked timidly. ‘I know you must be exhausted, but maybe you can rest here? We can even make a sleepover out of it, if you want,’ she mumbled, the cogs in her brain working at high velocity at how to keep him here longer. He looked like he needed it, but if she was honest with herself, she needed it as well. She needed his presence. She needed to make sure, he would be okay. And she needed to make him feel okay.
‘I don’t want to impose…’
‘You’re not. I’m inviting you,’ Marinette shook her head. ‘Please?’
There was a long pause, filled only with their breaths. Adrien looked at her, knitting his brows. She did her best to hold his gaze.
After a while he nodded. ‘Just let me-,’ he waved his phone and started typing. Then he showed her the message.
“At friend’s house. Safe. Need some time. I’ll contact you later”
‘Marinette?’ Adrien asked  reluctantly, after he put away his device. ‘Did I… did I hurt you at school today?’ He didn’t meet her eyes, just picked at a stray thread on her comforter.
‘No!’ she exclaimed. Was that the thing bothering him? Poor Kitty. ‘In fact, you let me go,’ she rushed to explain, ‘when you were akumatized. You spared me.’
‘I don’t remember much,’ he admitted, still avoiding her gaze. ‘Only glimpses, mostly sensations, not much really. But I was scared I-’
‘It wasn’t you, Adrien,’ she assured him again. ‘No one is blaming you. Ladybug told me what happened. You’re the first victim who resisted Hawkmoth, who defeated him!’
‘But not before I made god knows how many people disappear,’ the boy mumbled.
‘It wasn’t you,’ she repeated. ‘You just need some time to digest it, but I’m sure you’ll come to the same conclusion.’ Guided by a sudden hunch she climbed to her knees and pulled him into a tight hug. She heard his breathing hitched but he quickly reciprocated. Marinette felt his hands resting clumsily on her back, while he buried his face in her shoulder and shuddered. After a deep sight he pulled away.
‘Thank you,’ he whispered.
‘Now rest,’ Marinette ordered. ‘Make yourself comfortable. I’ll take these,’ she collected the now empty tray.
He sent her a shy smile, leaning on her pillow. Something rustled. Adrien turned, surprised by the sound and felt over the material of the pillowcase. Before Marinette remembered what she’d hidden there the boy put his hand inside and pulled out a sheet of paper.
He gaped in silence at its content.
It was a print. A print she liked to have close to her. A print he was bound to recognize as it featured him and his red ears next to a black clad heroine, posing for a picture inside his room.
The selfie with him and Lady Noir.
Marinette froze, just like her guest. What reasons would she have to acquire such a selfie (well, maybe apart from her former habit of collecting every available photo of Adrien and plastering it to her walls)? She probably could come up with a plausible explanation of why Ladybug had given it to her, but did she really want to?
She had to admit, it would be hard to imagine a more clear signal from reality to make up her mind, to let the maybugs out of the bag.
Adrien finally found his voice and his brains.
‘My Lady?’ he rasped looking between the picture and Marinette.
Maybugs don’t fly in June, she thought. It had felt right when he called her his Lady, because she had always been his.
‘Yes,’ she said, smiling at the choice she made. ‘Yes, I am.’

Read on Ao3
It took Marinette far too long for her liking to get away from the police. There were too many questions and not enough answers. Or time for the matter. The only brightside is she managed to escape just before the reporters arrived. She knew she’d have to to call a press meeting sometime to discuss what was going to happen next. But first, she had to get away.
There was only the slightest hesitation as she stood on a rooftop high above the city. With one glance in the direction of Master Fu’s shop and a whispered apology, she pulled out her yo-yo to access her map of the city - and hopefully, Chat’s tracker with it. She blinked in surprise at the flickering map and its lack of any markers. Unbidden, her eyes fell on the corrupted Butterfly miraculous she held in her hand. Closing her yo-yo, she started to search for Chat the old fashioned way.
Her first stop was the warehouse she had woken up in. While she didn’t much enjoy revisiting it, she was glad she did. It was clear he had been here already - the chair she had been stuck to was broken and her keen eye for detail noticed that the shattered wood of the door had been scattered across the space, as if kicked along. It was touching that even now, with all that he was feeling, he still had the presence of mind to make sure she was safe. But that didn’t change that he wasn’t here anymore, and there was no clues of where he had went.
Chat Noir was hurting. He would go somewhere that made him feel safe or comfortable. After a moment’s thought she remembered the night they had spent on the town. It wasn’t much, but it was all she had to go on.
As she went towards the Eiffel Tower, a favorite spot of theirs in the masks and the strongest candidate, Marinette let herself wonder. Chat Noir wanted to beat Hawkmoth just as much as she did - if not more so, since he’d taken it as a given that they would reveal their identities to each other if that happened. So, if Chat Noir wasn’t Adrien, why else would he have run away, practically in tears? Gabriel Agreste wasn’t close to anyone. Most of his family was distant relations. He had a reputation as being difficult to work with. He was cold and withdrawn. The only remaining options who would take the reveal of his crimes so hard would be Adrien or Nathalie. And the latter apparently knew about him all along.
Not for the first time tonight, she was curious about what happened to Nathalie. Chat hadn’t said anything during the battle, too occupied with fighting through the pain than talking or bantering. There had been a certain hardness to his eyes, as if he was angry with himself. But she was getting side tracked - they would deal with that latter, as a team. Right now, she just needed to find him.
The Eiffel Tower was absent any superheroes. Same for the ice rink and the Italian restaurant and the host of other spots. A horrible thought crept into her head. All this time, she had expected him to reach out to her once he spotted her. But what if he was purposely hiding from her? How could she find Chat Noir if he didn’t want to be found? And with the media storm that was sure to follow, would he even want to return to being Adrien?
Would she ever see her kitty again?
Taking a deep breath to hold back the tears, she banished the idea. There wasn’t anything she could do if that was the case, so she had to carry on as if it wasn’t. Even so, she could feel Tikki’s strength ebbing. Being taken in her pajamas, she didn’t have any cookies on her, so she’d need to stop home. But at soon as Tikki recharged, she would head back out. Nothing would stop her from finding Chat Noir.
Which made it all the more surprising when she landed in her apartment’s living room and saw him curled up on her couch. Even as she approached, he didn’t react to her presence. Once she got close she could hear his gentle sobbing, which broke her heart anew.
She put a hand on his back, causing him to peek up at her. “Ladybug…?”
“Spots off.”
-----------------------
The reveal wasn’t quite like the fantasies either of them had constructed over the years. Marinette had expected tears would be involved, but not like this. After detransforming in front of him, she sat down on the couch and pulled his head onto her lap. After a few minutes, he willed his transformation off and for the first time in their superhero careers, there were no secrets between them.
The first hour was the hardest for the both of them. Adrien at his absolute lowest, all his remaining family taken from him. Marinette whispering assurances to Adrien, promising that she was there for him through all of this. They were still partners. They were still friends. And although she didn’t say it, the thought that they were something more than that hung in the air.
Hoping that having something else to focus on would help, she started some movies and didn’t stop until the sobbing had subsided to sniffling sometime during the early hours of the morning. She had already consigned herself to calling into work today, ever since she woke up to being taped to a chair. While then it had been because she deserved a day off after that, now it was because she was worried about leaving Adrien alone.
Which might have been why she was leading him to her bedroom instead of his guest room. Despite how much they both could desperately use a shower, she simply couldn’t stay awake any longer and she knew he was barely holding onto consciousness. There was no reaction on his part as he climbed under the sheets after her, and both of them had fallen into a fitful sleep as soon as their heads hit the pillows.
In their slumber, Marinette rolled over onto his chest, a smile gracing her face as she unconsciously listened to his heartbeat. Adrien wrapped his arms around her and for just this night, his sorrow left him.
Tomorrow, they could worry about what was to come. For tonight, they took comfort in each other.
