Current favourite musicians / bands? Any ones that you don’t like?
My fav bands are: gnr (obvi), metallica, megadeth, mother love bone, black sabbath, motley crue, soundgarden, audioslave, temple of the dog, pearl jam, alice in chains
specific musicians: axl rose, 2pac (i worship the ground he walks on), eminem, slash, james hetfield, kirk hammett, jason newsted, steven adler, chris cornell, layne staley, lizzo (i know right completely out of left field), lady gaga
as for ppl i don’t like?: i never liked ice spice. she’s beautiful but her popularity is way overhyped considering i don’t think she’s really that talented.
i also never liked 90% of the pop music that has been coming out since like 2014. ke$ha, justin bieber, nahhhhh. i hate all that music so much. and also any rap past like 2010. especially white rappers specifically make the worst fucking music (excluding eminem). 69, MGK, lil dicky, etc. all ass. i also hated kanye west even before he went insane.

Apparently, Justin Kirk was in a band in the 90s. They liked power pop and punk, and they used to play CBGBs regularly.

In Memory of Brian, Fred and Jerry by Susan King
Tumblr media
I mourn the loss of Hollywood legends, especially those I have interviewed over the years. I broke into tears when Debbie Reynolds died four years ago, recalling our last chat together in 2016 when we did a duet of “Moses Supposes.” And I still haven’t watched TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD (’62) since Gregory Peck died in 2003. I had the opportunity to interview the handsome Oscar-winner at his now torn down home in 1997 and 1999. He was everything you’d hope he would be – sweet, intelligent and funny. He also loved Bob Dylan. His last words to me as he walked me to my car were: “You are a most interesting young lady.”
In 2020 alone, I lost over 20 former interviewees including Kirk Douglas, whom I interviewed eight times between 1986-2017, and my beloved Olivia de Havilland, who I found to be delightful and a bit ribald in the two interviews I did with her. I got more than a little misty when Brian Dennehy, Fred Willard and Jerry Stiller died this year. They were supremely talented and made our lives a little brighter with their performances. And, they all were great guys and fun interviews.
Brian Dennehy
I interviewed Brian Dennehy, who died in April at the age of 81, several times in the early 1990s when I was at the L.A. Times. The former U.S. Marine and football player was intimidating at first sight. He was tall, burly and barrel-chested. He had a no-nonsense quality about him, and he spoke his mind. But he also was funny.
Tumblr media
In 1991, discussing how hard it was for some actors to land parts after starring in a TV series, he noted “coming off a TV series is a tough deal, and you go into limbo land for a while, if not forever. Most actors go immediately to the ‘Island of Lost Actors’ and stay there. Troy Donahue is the mayor.” Dennehy never went to that island. Not with the complex and often memorable performances he gave in such films as FIRST BLOOD (’82), SILVERADO (’85), COCOON (’85), PRESUMED INNOCENT (’90) and as Big Tom in the comedy TOMMY BOY (’95).
He was nominated for five Emmys, including one for his chilling turn as serial killer John Wayne Gacy in the miniseries To Catch a Killer (’92).
I had one of the most extraordinary evenings at the theater in 2000 when Dennehy reprised his Tony Award-winning role as the tragic Willy Loman at the Ahmanson Theatre in Los Angeles in the lauded revival of Arthur Miller’s masterpiece Death of a Salesman. It was a gut-wrenching performance that left me emotionally exhausted. He earned another Tony in 2003 as James Tyrone in the revival of Eugene O’Neill’s superb Long Day’s Journey into Night. And he never stopped working.
Shortly after his death, the drama DRIVEWAYS (2020) was released on streaming platforms. And it could be Dennehy’s greatest performance. He plays Del, an elderly widower and Korean War vet who sparks a warm friendship with Cody, the young boy next door. The reviews for the film (it’s at 100% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes) and Dennehy have been glowing. The L.A. Times’ Justin Chang wrote that Dennehy’s Del is as “forceful and tender a creation as any in this great actor’s body of work.” And Jeannette Catsoulis of The New York Times stated: “What we might remember most, perhaps appropriately, are Dennehy’s warm, weary features and rich line readings. In a lovely final monologue, Del advises Cody to avoid rushing past the experiences in life that matter, as they pass so quickly on their own. Much like the careers of beloved actors.”
Fred Willard
I first encountered Fred Willard as the clueless sidekick of sleazy talk show host Barth Gimble (Martin Mull) in the late 1970s on the syndicated comedy series Fernwood Tonight and its continuation America 2-Night. I quickly became a fan, and that admiration grew when he became a member of Christopher Guest’s stock company of zanies in such comedies as WAITING FOR GUFFMAN (’96) and BEST IN SHOW (2000). In the latter, he played the equally clueless dog show announcer Buck Laughlin who quipped in his color commentary, “And to think that in some counties these dogs are eaten.”
Tumblr media
Willard told me in a 2012 L.A. Times interview that he didn’t think he was funny until he was an adult. “I always loved comedy growing up – Bob Hope, Red Skelton and Danny Kaye,” said Willard, who died in May at the age of 86.
Willard got a serious part in Tennessee Williams’ one-act in a summer theater group when he was in his 20s. “I was getting laughs on all the lines,” he noted. “The director got upset because the audiences were always laughing. I didn’t try to do it deliberately. Then I realized I would say things around people, and they would laugh. I didn’t mean to be funny. I have always been relaxed around comedy.”
Just as Dennehy, Willard kept working. In fact, he received an Emmy nomination posthumously for his hilarious turn as Ty Burrell’s goofball dad on ABC’s Modern Family. He told me he wished he could try to do more dramatic fare like in Clint Eastwood’s World War II drama Flags of Our Fathers (2006). Willard even called his agent to see if he could get a role in the movie. “Clint Eastwood’s people called back and said, ‘We love Fred, but we are afraid if he appeared on the screen, they might start to laugh.’’’
Jerry Stiller
Jerry Stiller was a real sweetie and also very thoughtful. He sent me a lovely thank you note when I interviewed him and his wife, Anne Meara, in the early 1990s. When I talked to him for his son Ben Stiller’s remake of THE HEARTBREAK KID (2007), Stiller sent me a lovely bouquet of flowers. Ditto in 2010 when I interviewed the couple for a Yahoo! Web series Stiller & Meara: A Show About Everything. I also received Christmas cards until Meara died in 2015.
Tumblr media
Baby boomers remember Stiller, who died at 92 in May, and Meara for their smart and sophisticated comedy act, in which the majority of the humor came from the fact that he was Jewish and she was born Irish Catholic. They recorded albums, were popular on the nightclub circuit and did The Ed Sullivan Show three dozen times. They split up their act when musical variety series went away.
Both were terrific dramatic actors. In fact, I saw Stiller in the 1984 Broadway production of Hurlyburly, David Rabe’s scathing look at Hollywood, and he did a 1997 production of Chekhov’s The Three Sisters. Of course, Stiller garnered even more success in his Emmy-nominated role as Frank Costanza, the caustic father of George (Jason Alexander) on NBC’s Seinfeld (1993-98) and was the best reason to watch CBS’ sitcom The King of Queens (1998-2007) as Kevin James’ acerbic father-in-law
But I most remember that 2010 interview where Stiller and Meara bantered back and forth much to my enjoyment. Here they talk about Ed Sullivan:
Anne: I never liked him.
Jerry: You are out of your mind. You never liked him?
Anne: He scared stuff out of me. I am talking about Mr. Sullivan himself. I wasn’t the only one. There were international favorites throwing up in the wings—singers and tenors and guys who spin plates. It was live. We were scared.
Jerry: Ed Sullivan brought us up to the level that we knew we never could get to – him standing there on the right side of the wings laughing, tears coming out of his eyes and then calling us over and saying, ‘You know, we got a lot of mail on that last show you did.’ I said, ‘From Catholic or Jewish people?’ He said, ‘The Lutherans.’”

What is the Multiverse? Five Must-See Alternate Timeline TV Episodes to Watch After ‘Loki’
Look, I get it — multiverse storytelling can be confusing. Marvel’s Loki streaming series is only the latest in a long line of stories that plays fast and loose with the idea of multiple or parallel timelines. Loki follows the God of Mischief (Tom Hiddleston) after he gets involved with the Time Variance Authority, or the TVA, as they try to correct problems in individual timelines. This provides us a chance to see lots of variant Lokis (including our favorite chompy green boy) and opens up opportunities for a lot of zany storytelling that doesn’t necessarily have to impact the primary timeline.
The idea of multiple universes existing at the same time isn’t anything new. Some of the earliest examples date back to Norse mythology, which divided existence into nine worlds. DC Comics first introduced the idea of the DC multiverse in its comics in All Star Comics #3 in 1940, and Marvel later followed suit, starting with their What if? series in the 1970s. While the concept of parallel universes might feel a little daunting to contemplate on your own, these five television episodes will help you understand the magic of the multiverse.
Tumblr media
“The Parallel” — The Twilight Zone
When it comes to television that changed the way we think, Rod Serling‘s The Twilight Zone is the forebear of them all. The original series ran from 1959 to 1964 and contained stories from science fiction greats like Ray Bradbury (Farhenheit 451) and  Richard Matheson (I Am Legend). Each episode in the anthology series told a different short story, most with the intent of exploring some political or social allegory.
In 1963’s “The Parallel”, Major Robert Gaines (Steve Forrest) is orbiting earth in his space capsule when he suddenly blacks out and wakes up on Earth with no memory of how he got there. He’s uninjured, but the world he’s arrived in doesn’t quite match the one he left. His daughter suspects he’s someone else, his house suddenly has a white picket fence that his wife swears has always been there, and everyone keeps calling him Colonel, which matches his uniform but not his memories. He’s a little shaken until he comes to the conclusion that he’s in a parallel universe, and then takes steps to get back to his own timeline.
“The Parallel” marks the first instance of multiverse storytelling on TV. It doesn’t do anything particularly groundbreaking and is a middle-of-the-road The Twilight Zone episode, but it’s the first, which means it paved the way for everyone else to tell TV stories about parallel universes and doppelgangers.
Tumblr media
“Mirror Mirror”/”Crossover” — Star Trek/Star Trek Deep Space Nine
Did I say doppelgangers? If there’s one franchise that has capitalized on the potential fun of meeting your alternate self, it’s Star Trek. In the “Mirror Mirror” episode of the original series, a teleporter mishap sends Kirk, McCoy, Scotty, and Uhura to a parallel dimension where everything is reversed. The Federation has become an evil Empire, Kirk is a tyrant, and Spock has a goatee (that’s how you know he’s evil). The episode started several tropes about doppelgangers (including the whole goatee thing), and paved the way for future Star Trek iterations to really go wild with the Mirror Universe.
Star Trek: Deep Space Nine explored the Mirror Universe more than any other Star Trek series, with stories taking place there over five different episodes. The first of these, “Crossover,” is the most important and sets the stage for the later mirror episodes. In “Crossover,” Major Kira (Nana Visitor) and Doctor Bashir (Alexander Siddig) have an accident inside of the wormhole near the planet Bajor, sending them to the Mirror Universe. It’s been decades since Kirk and co. crossed over, but things are still pretty backwards in the Mirrorverse. Instead of the Federation, there’s a coalition between the Klingons, Cardassians, and Bajorans. Terrans (a fancy word for Earthlings) have been enslaved. The space station Deep Space Nine is instead a mining operation, run by the alternate Kira, the Intendant.
There are few things in the world as enjoyable as watching Visitor play her double role. The entire cast really gets to go for it with their Mirrorverse personas, and you can tell they’re having a blast. The Mirror Universe in Deep Space Nine gave the actors a chance to explore their characters in new ways, and it provided more insight into their individual pathos. Sure, the Mirrorverse versions were the “evil” versions of themselves, but there were still versions of themselves. Kira is a strong leader with a dry sense of humor, regardless of whether she’s the former Bajoran freedom fighter or the Intendant. “Crossover” set up the following four Deep Space Nine Mirror episodes, including episodes where Captain Sisko (Avery Brooks) must pretend to be his doppelganger and deal with the fact that his dead wife is still very alive in the parallel universe. Some of the episodes are silly fun, and some are a bit more heady, but they all get to explore sides of these characters that we’ve never seen before.
Tumblr media
“Remedial Chaos Theory” — Community
The NBC sitcom Community frequently made its own riffs on popular tropes, and it had an utter field day with parallel universes. In the season 3 episode, “Remedial Chaos Theory,” viewers are treated to seeing six different ways the same evening could have played out. The friends, who met in a Spanish study group at their community college, are all celebrating Troy (Donald Glover) and Abed (Danny Pudi) moving into a new apartment. When the pizza arrives, group leader Jeff (Joel McHale) suggests they roll dice to see who has to go get the pizza. Abed, who is sensitive to tropes, points out that Jeff is creating new timelines by introducing chance, and then we get to see each of them play out.
What “Remedial Chaos Theory” does is brilliant. It’s a bottle episode, all set in one location with no visible impact on the overall plot. However, by seeing how the situations change each time a single character is removed from the group dynamic, we’re able to learn so much more about the group as a whole. The episode gives us insight into the characters and their relationships by changing up the formula just a pinch and removing one element. In the Darkest Timeline, which leaves Pierce (Chevy Chase) dead and severely maims the rest of the group, it’s revealed that things fall apart without Troy in the mix. At the end of the episode, the prime timeline continues and it’s Jeff who has to go get the pizza. This ends up being the most positive of the timelines, which means maybe the group is better off without Jeff at all. It’s a great piece of character storytelling and even ends with the Darkest Timeline versions of Troy and Abed making felt goatees for themselves before declaring they are Evil Troy and Evil Abed.
Tumblr media
“Rixty Minutes” – Rick and Morty
Community showrunner Dan Harmon clearly has a love for stories involving parallel timelines, so it’s no surprise that he expanded on those ideas in Rick and Morty, the adult animated series he developed with Justin Roiland. Rick and Morty is a kind of Back to the Future for twisted adults; it follows the adventures of alcoholic mad scientist Rick Sanchez (Roiland) and his hapless grandson Morty Smith (also Roiland) as they travel through space and time. In the first season episode “Rixty Minutes,” Rick introduces the entire Smith family to the many parallel timelines that exist. He and Morty watch Interdimensional Cable in the A plot, which gives Roiland a chance for lots of fun improvisational gags, but the B plot is more interesting. In order to enjoy his cable watching, Rick gives Morty’s parents and sister a helmet that will let them see through the eyes of some of their alternate selves.
Jerry (Chris Parnell) finds a version of himself that’s a huge Hollywood player who parties with Johnny Depp. Beth (Sarah Chalke) finds a reality where she’s not a horse surgeon, but a human surgeon, like she always wanted. Their teenage daughter Summer (Spencer Grammar) discovers that she was an unplanned pregnancy and that her parents argued about whether or not to get an abortion. In the parallel universes, she either doesn’t exist or her life is hopelessly boring. This leads to a pretty massive existential crisis, but she’s stopped by Morty, who has already had his fair share of timey-wimey weirdness.
Morty takes Summer upstairs and shows her two dirt mounds in the backyard. He explains that he’s not the Morty from this timeline, and that he and Rick had to come here after things in their timeline got too bad. The Rick and Morty in this timeline had just died, so they slipped in unnoticed. Then, Morty gives Summer a bit of advice that shows he’s beginning to grow up a bit on his madcap adventures.
“Nobody exists on purpose. Nobody belongs anywhere. Everybody’s gonna die. Come watch TV?” he pleads.
The episode ends with the entire Smith family realizing that dwelling on possible alternate realities will only ever cause problems. It’s a testament to living in the here and now, and is one of the series’ most emotionally resounding moments.
There are dozens of shows with multiverse stories out there, from ’90s sci-fi staple Sliders to the later seasons of Supernatural. These five, however, helped expand upon the trope as a whole, and are worth checking out to improve your pop culture savvy. That, and they’re just a lot of fun.

Dusted Mid-Year Exchange, Part 2: Positive No to Yves Tumour
Tumblr media
Six Organs got a lot of mid-year love this time
Welcome back to part two of the Dusted Mid-Year Exchange, in which we tackle the second half of the alphabet. If you missed part one, with its lengthy description of what we’re doing here, you can read it here. Or just muddle through. Cheers.
Positive No — Kyanite (Little Black Cloud)
Kyanite by Positive No
Who recommended it? Tobias Carroll
Did we review it? No.
Tim Clarke’s take:
Positive No braid tight bursts of guitars, bass and drums into upbeat yet agitated shapes. There’s a touch of Blonde Redhead’s Kazu Makino in Tracy Wilson’s vocal delivery, or My Bloody Valentine’s Belinda Butcher, especially on expansive opener “Elevator Up.” At just under half an hour, the urgent economy of Kyanite’s songwriting makes all the more sense when you learn that it’s the band’s final album, released on Valentine’s Day this year. As their parting gesture, nothing is wasted, everything invested. As one of the song titles says, “Get In, Get Out. Don’t Linger. Go On.”
Raspberry Bulbs — Before the Age of Mirrors
Before The Age Of Mirrors by Raspberry Bulbs
Who picked it? Jonathan Shaw
Did we review it? Yes, Jonathan said, “Even in its heaviest metal moments, on ‘Reclaimed Church’ and excellent closing track ‘Given Over to History,’ the record’s punk vibe cuts and grins. It insists on a deadly aesthetic seriousness, and at the same time, it’s tugging the rug out from under its own feet.”
Jennifer Kelly’s take:
Raspberry Bulbs splices punk’s antic venom with metal’s storm and roar, shifting from one mode to the other inside individual tracks, sometimes measure to measure. Consider “Doggerel” which kicks off in a pogo-ing furor, rattling violently over rapid oi band rhythms, everything clipped and percussive, even the vocals, though hoarse and splintered. Midway through, a sirening guitar riff intercedes and the singing turns ominous and measured; all the sudden it’s metal. “Midnight Line” pulls the opposite trick, beginning in clanging, feedback-morphing guitar and larynx shredding howl, then introducing a punk rock palm-muted chug and anthemry. It’s a volatile mix, at times nearly playful, at others agonizingly heavy, at still others (the “Intervals” mostly) surprisingly lyrical.  I lean towards the punk-er tracks—"They’re After Me” and “Doggerel”— metal fans may feel otherwise.
Stephen Riley — Friday the 13th (Steeplechase)
Tumblr media
Who recommended it? Derek Taylor
Did we review it? Yes. Derek said, “Knuffke and Riley are a directly collaborative pairing now and their partnership politely demands many more dates like this one.”
Justin Cober-Lake's take:
Saxophonist Stephen Riley has put together a quartet with a singular idea of playing these classic tunes on Friday the 13th in relatively straightforward and spacious renditions. Their take on Eddie Vinson's “Four” has Riley and cornetist Kirk Knuffke trading long solos. The rhythm section does its job, but it's a horn players' record. The album comes alive most when Knuffke and Riley interact more immediately. On Oliver Nelson's “Hoe Down,” they reveal how great a partnership they have, initially matching each other on the main melody before spiraling off. “Round Midnight” could have been too obvious a choice, but the combo's personalized take on the standard works out. Everyone sounds at ease enough within the song that they take a few more risks, and the horn players supplement each other nicely with more harmonic considerations. The album ends with a trio of spirited numbers, and in each case Riley and Knuffke play off each other's solos with a sharpness that by now makes sense. Riley's listening to Monk and playing like Rollins (hence the title track) as he and his group find ways to make old bop sound new.
Gil Scott-Heron and Makaya McCraven—We’re New Again, A Reimagining (XL Recordings)
youtube
Who recommended it? Jenny Kelly.
Did we review it? Yes. Arthur Krumins notes, “McCraven lays down a lush musical backdrop that allows Scott-Heron’s words to have emotional impact.”
Jonathan Shaw’s take:
The word “reimagine” has a sexy resonance, and for that reason, it’s often too casually used. But in the case of We’re New Again, the word is warranted. Drummer and producer Makaya McCraven doesn’t just remix Gil Scott-Heron’s final record, I’m New Here (2010); McCraven shuffles the track list, adds some relevant recordings of Scott-Heron’s voice, and creates entirely new arrangements, moods, and musical accompaniment for the earlier album’s songs. It’s ballsy — I’m New Here is justly recognized as a masterpiece, and it’s marked by a stylistic austerity. On that record, Scott-Heron sang and spoke and recited his poetry over minimalist beats, a strummed guitar, or his own piano playing. McCraven attentively reimagines the tunes, working with polyphonic, post-Bop ensembles; busy hip-hop soundscapes; gospel and funk quotations. Remarkably, none of the richness of Scott-Heron’s vocals and none of the complexity of his poetry get obscured. More often, McCraven inventively intensifies the impact of Scott-Heron’s songs. And the reordering and recontextualizing of the tracks reveals a different narrative, grounded in the resilience and the suffering of Scott-Heron’s upbringing and too-short life. You listen and you feel it. It’s a terrific record.
Six Organs of Admittance — Companion Rises (Drag City)
Companion Rises by Six Organs of Admittance
Who recommended it? Jennifer Kelly
Did we review it? Yes. Jenny said it’s “straight-down-the-middle Six Organs, not as loud and abrasive as the first Hexadic disc, not as reticently wisp-y as the older folk-derived records.”
Patrick Masterson’s take:
Back when Dusted was still a dot-com, we talked about making a site-specific canon for our 10th anniversary, a kind of “Dusted 500” field guide. There was a shared spreadsheet and talk of a benefit show and a mixtape comp and so on that never amounted to anything for myriad reasons, but I can promise you Ben Chasny would’ve figured into it somehow — and nearly a decade on from that, my promise stands. The latest (30th? Let’s call it 30th) Six Organs of Admittance record is a beautiful slow burner that shows why, all astral spirits and slow-rolling starlight guitar plucks that is, as Jenny rightly notes, a Six Organs line drive. My belief after numerous spins since early February — mostly in the mornings, for which this music also seems suitable accompaniment — is that, like the rest of Chasny’s oeuvre, it will appeal to anyone who likes guitars or reads this. On the off chance you stumbled in here or haven’t heard this record yet: Welcome. It’s always been this way.

Spanish Love Songs — Brave Faces Everyone (Pure Noise)
Brave Faces Everyone by Spanish Love Songs
Who recommended it? Ian Mathers
Did we review it? Yes. Ian said, “it’s more a record of solidarity and mutual support than it is anything more prescriptive.”
Patrick Masterson’s take:
L.A. quintet Spanish Love Songs occupy a very specific point on what I like to think of as the Bar Band Spectrum, where one end is a bottom-rung covers-only collective found in just about any weeknight dive pre-COVID playing for beer money out of boredom and modest ambition… and the other end is Bruce Springsteen. This band isn’t as ramshackle as, say, Ladyhawk, nor have they yet hit a glass ceiling à la the Constantines; they sound to me more like Beach Fossils or Single Mothers, where everything from their songwriting to their slightly glossy production suggests they’re as ready as they’ll ever be for arena life. And what a record to make the case, too: Brave Faces Everyone is the sound of Run for Covers Records growing up or early onset Gen Z realizing a glass of wine after everything is, in fact, a coping mechanism for adulthood in a profoundly uncaring world. It’s got a big, young heart to match its big, old sound. It says, loudly, that in the increasingly untethered reality of 2020, we are all losers forever — but there’s still a “best of it” to be made if you wanna and the bravest face is an optimistic one. I’ll rock with that (from the quarantined confines of home and the other side of another lousy livestream, of course).

Squirrel Flower — I Was Born Swimming (Polyvinyl)
I Was Born Swimming by Squirrel Flower
Who picked it? Patrick Masterson
Did we review it? Nope.
Arthur Krumins’ take:
Making the most of a dour mood, Squirrel Flower squeezes disaffection from her vocal delivery. The instrumentation is reminiscent of a less noisy Built to Spill, or maybe Julie Doiron, and is effectively now a retro indie rock sound originally from the late 90s or early 2000s. The jamminess of some of the drawn out riffs feel both pretty and sad, and could be a good soundtrack to a rainy drive. The heaviness is well developed without being bogged down. The lyrics catch your attention with their plainspoken narration of conflict (“You slap me, I’ll slap you right back” she repeats in “Slapback”). A fitting album for looking your troubles head on while still being totally surrounded by them.
Waterless Hills — The Great Mountain (Cardinal Fuzz)
Waterless Hills - 'The Great Mountain' by Waterless Hills
Who picked it? Bill Meyer
Did we review it? No.
Arthur Krumins’ take:
A dissonant flow that steadily increases in intensity starts this record, which is a live recorded improvisation. The combination of aching, modal violin by dbh with slightly overdriven cascading electric guitar by C Joynes makes for a feel reminiscent of “Venus in Furs” by the Velvet Underground. The percussion by Andrew Cheetham, a drum kit plug some extras like a hung Chinese gong, creates texture and mood. Sometimes there’s just a steady counting of time in the background, at other moments waves of cymbals crash and make a cacophonous emphasis as the music rises and falls. The overall effect of the jams is hypnotic, like getting absorbed in a swirling light show. The players’ sensitivity to the musical interplay of their instruments, combined with a masterful looseness, makes it a trip worth taking.
Well Yells — We Mirror the Dead (Self-released)
youtube
Who recommended it? Ian Mathers.
Did we review it? Yes. Ian Mathers notes, “tipping towards the slightly industrial/EBM side of the genre, We Mirror the Dead gains a kind of gloomy propulsion without losing any of the atmosphere or intensity of [the band’s] prior work.”
Jonathan Shaw’s take:
The Gothic is not famous for stylistic restraint, and neither are the various contemporary subgenres that have inherited goth music’s romance of dark interiors, painfully fraught feeling and highly stylized self-fashioning. A few recent acts have cut against the grain of those established maximalist textures: see the grim industrial rancor of Street Sects, and the more experimental, sample-based austerities of Wreck and Reference. Well Yells’ music feels similarly stripped down to a pulsing electronic essence. But the record is more interested in the strobing spaces of Clubland than in decrepit factory ruins, and the darkwave gloss of We Mirror the Dead presents a more conventional relation to goth’s sensations. At its best—as on album opener “Kill the King”—the music of Patrick Holbrook, sole member of Well Yells, snaps and glimmers with compelling dread and arch sophistication. Holbrook’s breathy tenor is a useful counterpoint; his vocals are vaguely reminiscent of the best of those other habitués of Clubland, the British New Romantics (remember Bronski Beat?). It’s good stuff, somehow simultaneously polished and dirty.
Lucinda Williams—Good Souls Better Angels (Thirty Tigers/Highway 20 Records)
youtube
Who recommended it? Justin Cober-Lake
Did we review it? No.
Bill Meyer’s take: I haven’t listened much to Lucinda Williams; the one record I have by her, Sweet Old World, is 28 years old. The first thing that hit me when I listened to Good Souls Better Angels is what’s changed. Williams’ voice is much rougher, and she’s adjusted the music correspondingly, adding Hendrixian guitar flourishes to “Bone of Contention” and coarsening the domestic violence scenario “Wakin’ Up” with bad-trip electronics. The next is how pissed she sounds. Violent boyfriends are bad enough, but having a charmless sociopath for president is even worse. Fortunately, bile hasn’t overwhelmed her writing chops. Big-sounding roots rock isn’t really my thing these days, but if I feel the need to change that, Good Souls Better Angels is a good place to start.
Wire — Mind Hive (Pink Flag)
youtube
Who picked it? Andrew Forell
Did we review it? Yes, Andrew said, “Mind Hive is concise yet full of restless intelligence, musical ideas and willingness to push boundaries.”
Derek Taylor’s take:
I tapped Wire late and left early. That truncated exposure lends a narrow vocabulary in describing their music contextually, pre- and post-reunions. This latest missive sounds alternately like what I remember and at least several zip codes removed with a heavy lean into synths. “Be Like Them” and “Primed and Ready” fall in the former category, while “Off the Beach” trades gangly ennui and menace for what almost resembles instrumental optimism until the lyrics stack dutifully into another ode to the disaffected and disconnected. “Oklahoma” feels inscrutably weird. “Hung” drops as the album’s extended, incremental, post-industrial dirge. There’s additional insulation sheathing this Wire, an inevitable adjunct of ascendancy to elder status, but the current foursome is still dependably conducting current.
Yves Tumour — Heaven to a Tortured Mind (Warp)
youtube
Who recommend it? Patrick Masterson
Did we review it? No.
Ian Mathers’ take:
Listen to music for long enough and you might realize that most of the time when you hope any artist goes in any particular direction with their work, you’re bound to be disappointed. But every so often, maybe after a promising album that you just didn’t fully click with, an artist does exactly what you were hoping for and fully manifests all the potential promise you thought you glimpsed. Yves Tumor’s 2018 album Safe in the Hands of Love was admirable in many ways, but it was really only on crucial single “Noid” that all the combustible elements were really brought together into something that properly bangs. Well, Heaven to a Tortured Mind might not have as many showcases for the ambient/noise chops that Tumor definitely has, but it does consistently bang for 36 minutes of should-be alternate universe pop hits, from the brassy “Gospel for a New Century” to the floaty duet “Kerosene!” For anyone who loved “Noid” and then found more to respect than the viscerally love on Tumor’s last record, this is the record you were waiting for, and it is magnificent and ferocious.

Fox news Power Rankings: Brand new No. 1! - NFL.com
Tumblr media
Fox news
We have a set up recent personnel sitting atop the Energy Rankings.
The Niners' four-week reign is over. San Francisco jacked the crown and scepter from the Patriots, who dominated our world for nine weeks. Now it's miles the Ravens who have staged a coup d'etat. Our advice to Baltimore? Assemble a moat. Resolve on alligators. Sharpen your swords. Masks the girls and young folks.
This fight is won ... nonetheless the battle will rage on into February.
Tumblr media
NOTE: The earlier rankings referenced in the lineup below are from the Week 13 Energy Rankings.
Earlier inaccurate: No. 2
Welcome to the top, Ravens. To the top of the AFC standings, and the top of the Energy Rankings. (I will let John Harbaugh resolve what system extra to him.) All around the last two months, now we have watched the Ravens tumble nukes from above on groups that never had a possibility. On Sunday, we realized Baltimore can we assign a naked-knuckle dual carriageway fight when fundamental, too. The NFC-main 49ers have been worthy opponents, nonetheless the Ravens locked in on defense and acquired any other money second from Justin Tucker, the most effective kicker on Earth. The Ravens confirmed they would possibly be able to assign when Lamar Jackson isn't very at his most attention-grabbing, and their 10-2 file comprises victories over the Niners, Seahawks, Patriots, Texans and Rams (blended file of 45-10 towards non-Baltimore opponents). Right here's the suitable personnel in soccer -- now we will rep out if it would possibly per chance perhaps perhaps retain this inconceivable momentum to the Super Bowl.
Earlier inaccurate: No. 4
Changed into once there ever truly a doubt? We have almost a decade of proof telling us Russell Wilson will never lose a sport like that at CenturyLink Arena. With the stakes sky-high, the dwelling crowd roaring and millions of fans searching at on TV ... the Seahawks and their superstar quarterback always rep a technique. A 37-30 assign over the Vikings shifted the complexion of the NFC: The Seahawks, on the energy of their 10-2 file and head-to-head assign over the Niners, leap into the No. 2 seed in the NFC and depart into first space in the NFC West with a Week 17 rematch vs. San Francisco looming. The combo of Chris Carson and Rashaad Penny used to be shimmering towards Minnesota, the two backs combining to depart over 200 scrimmage yards with three touchdowns. Penny in the end appears to have chanced on his operate and it makes the Seattle offense that worthy extra complicated to end.
Earlier inaccurate: No. 5
The Saints didn't play their cleanest set up of soccer in November, nonetheless they carried out effectively adequate to develop their first foremost goal of the season. A 26-18 assign over the Falcons made the Saints the first personnel to clinch a playoff space. The NFC South champs now assign of residing their sights on the No. 1 overall seed in the NFC. Last Thursday night would possibly per chance well be remembered for the relentlessness of the entrance seven, which made Matt Ryan's life shadowy in a nine-sack assault. Cameron Jordan led the cost, ending with four sacks, along with the game-clinching takedown in the closing minute. Jordan is up to 13.5 sacks on the season -- 3.5 apprehensive of the personnel single-season file of 17, assign of residing by La'Roi Glover in 2000. Talking of the No. 1 seed, the Saints will put themselves on the within notice in the occasion that they would possibly be able to elevate out the 49ers on Sunday.
Earlier inaccurate: No. 3
We have watched the Patriots' offense scuffle for 2 months now. Given the group's unmatched notice file, many assumed the Invoice Belichick-led braintrust would in the end resolve it out. Right here's what the Patriots carry out. But Sunday night's loss to the Texans makes you seriously wonder. The Pats filled up the box obtain and made issues look for first rate with three dumb landing drives towards a coasting Houston defense, nonetheless a deeper look for tells a worthy various story. As Invoice Barnwell identified, Brady used to be 9-of-25 passing for 90 yards with an interception sooner than Sleek England went on its first landing pressure dumb in the third quarter. The old vogue QB ranks near the underside of the league in a bunch of passing categories since Week 4, which tells us that a) Brady is in decline, or b) the improvement round the legendary superstar is depraved. It would possibly per chance most likely per chance be both of those issues.
Earlier inaccurate: No. 7
Has Aaron Rodgers in the end chanced on a gradual second banana in the Packers' receiving neighborhood? Inexperienced Bay hoped either Marquez Valdes-Scantling or Geronimo Allison would develop the leap in 2019, nonetheless the steady breakout candidate would possibly per chance well be Allen Lazard, who caught 3 of 3 targets for 103 yards and a landing in a 31-13 assign over the Giants. Davante Adams (two touchdowns on Sunday) remains the sure-sever No. 1 option in Inexperienced Bay's attack, nonetheless Lazard in general is a big share for Rodgers, who appears to be gaining self belief in the undrafted second-year pro. Rodgers would possibly per chance perhaps per chance also use some extra lend a hand in the backfield, where Aaron Jones has gone cold in recent weeks. Inexperienced Bay's offense has been at its most attention-grabbing when Matt LaFleur has been ready to use Jones' capacity as a runner and a receiver. Do not be critically bowled over if the Packers develop that a priority this week towards the Redskins.
Earlier inaccurate: No. 9
Deshaun Watson saved it steady after the Texans' 28-22 assign over the Patriots on Sunday night: He truly desired to beat Tom Brady sooner than the legendary quarterback known because it a profession. Resolve on into consideration it any other goal accomplished for the young superstar. Watson used to be the better quarterback on Sunday, throwing three landing passes and catching any other(!) in a victory that retains Houston alone atop the AFC South and pumps up their probabilities of landing a serious-round bye advance January. Watson has now thrown 21 touchdowns towards correct three interceptions in eight profession top-time games -- he is the Anti-Cousins. Watson's efficiency used to be even extra impressive brooding about the opponent: Sleek England's defense entered Sunday having allowed correct four landing passes while piling up 20 interceptions. Watson's diving obtain on the Texans' expertly designed and carried out trick play felt like a statement to the defending Super Bowl champions and longtime Houston bullies. We're not apprehensive of you anymore.
Earlier inaccurate: No. 6
It used to be there for the Vikings. Minnesota ball, trailing by four, less than four minutes to play, three timeouts at their disposal. Kirk Cousins took the self-discipline taking a look to construct on a gradual night and exorcise some Monday night ghosts. However the Vikings went five-and-out and the offense never saw the self-discipline again in a 37-30 loss to the Seahawks. Cousins falls to 0-8 on the Monday Evening Soccer stage, nonetheless put this loss on a Vikings defense that bought carved up on the ground by Chris Carson and Rashaad Penny and thru the air by Russell Wilson. Cousins' job used to be made that worthy extra complicated when superstar working encourage Dalvin Cook dinner exited the game midway thru the third quarter with a clavicle harm. The Vikings are easy in very neutral appropriate space to narrate a playoff space, nonetheless they would possibly per chance even have to assign out to have any likelihood at the NFC North title.
Earlier inaccurate: No. 10
We peek you, Bills. We all peek you now. Sean McDermott's squad went to Dallas and laid a Thanksgiving whooping on the supposedly superior Cowboys, putting themselves on the procedure as a sound contender in the AFC. At 9-3, the Bills have a stranglehold on a wild-card space and remain within putting distance of the rarely invincible Patriots in the AFC East. There have been standout performances up and down the roster towards the Cowboys, nonetheless this sport in general is a flashpoint for Josh Allen, who played like a franchise quarterback in entrance of a big nationwide target audience. Allen led six consecutive scoring drives towards Dallas and dished out some punishment on a third-quarter landing walk that would possibly per chance perhaps per chance be the highlight of his young profession to this point. Now the Bills safe overtime to put together for their perfect self-discipline of the season: a dwelling sport towards the surging Ravens. Forget the Bills at your like threat.
Earlier inaccurate: No. 14
Issues didn't originate effectively for Duck Hodges and the Steelers. Pittsburgh had accumulated 9 yards of complete offense midway thru the second quarter because the visiting Browns constructed a 10-0 lead. But then Hodges warmed up, James Washington started making plays and Pittsburgh's defense -- always the catalyst for the length of this neutral return from 0-3 irrelevance -- did the rest in a 20-13 assign over the Browns. This victory needed to be the sweetest of the season for the Steelers, who exacted revenge on a Browns personnel that bullied them in additional ways than one correct two weeks earlier. In that Week 11 matchup, Mason Rudolph melted down towards an aggressive Browns defense. Hodges saved his cold (not having to face the suspended Myles Garrett for sure helped) and delivered on adequate downfield throws to retain Cleveland staunch and allow Pittsburgh to obtain administration of the game. Mike Tomlin deserves severe Coach of the 365 days consideration.
Earlier inaccurate: No. 15
Searching at the Rams on Sunday used to be like taking a outing in a time machine all the vogue encourage to the harmless days of ... last November. Aid then, Los Angeles used to be easy the envy of the league, thanks to a relentless offensive attack. We hadn't considered worthy of that this season, a minimal of not sooner than Jared Goff threw for additional than 400 yards in a minute extra than three quarters towards the Cardinals. Robert Woods had 13 catches for 172 yards and Todd Gurley chipped in with 115 yards from scrimmage and a obtain. It used to be a ideal safe-appropriate sport for the Rams after a humbling butt-whipping at the hands of the Ravens two Mondays previously. The worthy query: Changed into once this the model of a turnaround for the Rams ... or used to be it merely a mirage towards one among the league's have-nots? This week's top-time showdown towards the Seahawks will uncover us loads.
Earlier inaccurate: No. 11
We have reached rock bottom of the Jason Garrett generation. A 26-15 loss to the visiting Bills on Thanksgiving used to be sobering affirmation of a bright reality in Dallas: The Cowboys, with all their marquee abilities, are correct any other personnel, as mediocre as their 6-6 file says they are. After the loss, an emotional Jerry Jones spoke of "taking a look ahead at successful four or five straight and helping write a fable they are going to discuss about," nonetheless he sounded like an proprietor talking like a fan, blind optimism blotting out cold actuality. Jones says that Garrett's job is safe, nonetheless the stress is on the coach in a technique it's never been sooner than. Playing in a inclined NFC East, the Cowboys easy have the within notice to a division title and dwelling playoff sport. But nothing must easy be assumed at this point. Dallas is a unsuitable personnel, per chance fatally so.
Earlier inaccurate: No. 13
Issues have gone sideways in a flash for the Raiders. Aid-to-encourage losses have dropped Oakland to 6-6 and out of the bustle in the AFC West. The playoffs are easy a possibility by capacity of the wild-card route, nonetheless it's bright to safe too by a personnel that's been outscored 74-12 over the course of eight days. Derek Carr isn't very fond of the recognition that he can't assign in the cold, nonetheless performances like we saw at Arrowhead with a kickoff temperature of 36 levels Fahrenheit would possibly per chance perhaps also not carry out worthy to alter the fable. Carr threw two interceptions, along with the game-icing spend-six in the second quarter, and struggled to manufacture any spark with a large receiver neighborhood that blended for 8 yards receiving thru three quarters. Silver & Shadowy-linked pessimism is comprehensible, nonetheless issues will shift in a urge if Oakland knocks off the surging Titans at the Shadowy Hole. The Raiders have been a chance at dwelling all year.
Earlier inaccurate: No. 16
If the Colts are sitting at dwelling advance playoff time, this would possibly per chance perhaps per chance be the game that sticks with them basically the most. Leading the Titans 17-7 in the third quarter, Indy perceived to be in top space to solidify its playoff probabilities and deal a crushing setback to a division rival. But a marvelous crumple on particular groups led to a blocked self-discipline-goal strive and landing return for Tennessee. Minutes later, after any other key mistake -- this time a Jacoby Brissett interception -- the Titans have been encourage in the pause zone again. From 17-7 to 17-17 to 31-17 in a flash. Brissett wasn't almost intriguing adequate in the second half, nonetheless he is in a not easy space. Playing without Marlon Mack (hand), T.Y. Hilton (calf) and Eric Ebron (ankle), the Colts simply manufacture not have the firepower to assign groups away. They'll manufacture with three of four far from dwelling.
Earlier inaccurate: No. 21
"Numerous avid gamers made various plays, nonetheless this day used to be Mitch's day." These have been the phrases of Bears coach Matt Nagy, after Mitchell Trubisky threw for 338 yards and three touchdowns to beat the Lions on Thanksgiving. It used to be without considerations Trubisky's most attention-grabbing sport of the season, and it creates an air of optimism round the worthy-maligned inclined first-round spend because the season hits its dwelling stretch. Can Trubisky put himself in space to retain his starting job subsequent season with a gradual manufacture? His play has improved markedly in the previous two weeks, nonetheless Chicago has been arguably the league's most disappointing personnel, and Trubisky's regression has been a worthy the clarification why. The Bears manufacture with a assassin's row of opponents -- Cowboys, at Packers, Chiefs, at Vikings -- giving Trubisky both an myth self-discipline and a golden various to salvage his season.
Earlier inaccurate: No. 17
At a sure point, it's seemingly you'll per chance seemingly be who it's seemingly you'll per chance seemingly be. We have waited all season for the Browns to play to their abilities level. A 3-sport successful trudge teased that as a possibility, nonetheless then came any other insensible efficiency in a large space towards the Steelers. At 5-7, Cleveland's playoff hopes will not be entirely dashed, nonetheless what have we considered from this personnel that tells us it has something particular in retailer? Presumably that's a query a reporter would possibly per chance perhaps per chance have asked Jarvis Landry and Odell Beckham Jr., nonetheless those personnel leaders ducked out of the locker room without talking. Browns coach Freddie Kitchens did discuss after the game, left to resolution questions about the slow T-shirt he wore over the weekend that incited an already hyped Steelers personnel. The Browns correct seem messy, and it's a have to to wonder if ownership will specialize in it fundamental to search out somebody recent to effectively-kept this up.

The Ron Rivera Look is on. The Panthers misplaced their fourth straight on Sunday, blowing a 14-0 lead in a loss to one among the worst groups in soccer. Panthers proprietor David Tepper let it be identified he would possibly per chance perhaps also not stand for mediocrity, nonetheless that's precisely what the Panthers symbolize because the season reaches its closing month. This all appears like very corrupt news for Rivera, who would possibly per chance perhaps want his Panthers to assign out to land a 10th season on the sideline. Even that would possibly per chance perhaps also not be adequate with a recent proprietor who appears thirsty to develop his very first label on the personnel he bought in 2018. "I'm not bowled over about my future," Rivera acknowledged after the game. "I'm bowled over about this soccer personnel. We have a sport coming up on Sunday." Right here's a acquainted script in a league that fires a quarter of its coaches every January.
UPDATE: Panthers proprietor David Tepper launched on Tuesday afternoon that Carolina has parted ways with Ron Rivera.

An unthinkable loss for the Eagles, who had a 28-14 lead over the 2-9 Dolphins nonetheless couldn't close out a assign that would possibly per chance perhaps per chance have moved them staunch into a tie atop the NFC East. No matter a highly productive day from Carson Wentz and the struggling Eagles offense, a winnable sport swung on a chain of serious failures in the second half. Dropped passes, overthrown balls, penalties, corrupt sacks, omitted self-discipline objectives -- Philadelphia spread out a rep of ineptitude and dumped it in every single assign the self-discipline in Miami. Doug Pederson acknowledged on Monday that his personnel "self-destructed" while labeling the Eagles a "long shot" to develop the playoffs. That isn't very rather appropriate: Philly remains correct one sport in the encourage of Dallas in a inclined NFC East, nonetheless this is a bright personnel to be aware of in. Fix one self-discipline, and any other one pops up. Or not it's a dropping sport of whack-a-mole.

The Jaguars are a toy ship sinking to the underside of one among the swimming swimming pools at their dwelling stadium. Jacksonville's dropping trudge reached four after a 28-11 setback towards the Buccaneers that left the dwelling crowd jeering and head coach Doug Marrone with out a various nonetheless to assign Sever Foles on the bench. The Jags' considerations have gone far beyond Foles in the previous three weeks, nonetheless Sunday used to be the first time the inclined Super Bowl MVP used to be a predominant reason the personnel struggled. Every of the first three Jacksonville possessions ended with a Foles turnover that used to be in the end grew to alter into staunch into a Tampa Bay landing. Gardner Minshew sparked the offense once he entered the game in the third quarter, and the rookie will remain in the lineup this week towards the Chargers. Minshew Mania have to walk wild in every single assign the NFL in the closing four weeks for Marrone to retain his job.

Or not it's been an grotesque season in Atlanta, and the notice of Matt Ryan being ruthlessly stiff-armed to the turf for the length of a Saints interception return shimmering worthy sums up the recent speak of Falcons soccer. That used to be correct one chapter in a ebook of brutality on Thanksgiving night for Ryan, who used to be sacked nine cases in a 26-18 loss that allowed the hated Saints to celebrate a division title on enemy turf. Ryan played without Julio Jones, who used to be (wisely) held out of action with a bum shoulder. The Falcons would possibly per chance perhaps desire to originate thinking in the same model about their franchise quarterback, who have to not be taking a beating of this nature when the stakes are this low for the three-9 Falcons. Hiya, a minimal of Atlanta recovered encourage-to-encourage onside kicks on Thursday. You elevate the positives where yow will discover them in a misplaced season.

The Dolphins would possibly per chance perhaps per chance be basically the most fun 3-9 personnel it's seemingly you'll ever notice. How would possibly per chance perhaps per chance you not safe pleasure from the vogue Miami went after the Eagles, battling encourage from a couple of deficits, calling trick plays, shock onside kicks -- the rest to develop up for the abilities disparity they face every Sunday? Or not it's a credit to first-year coach Brian Flores -- and the quarterback, too. Right here's a young Dolphins personnel taking part in with the spirit of Ryan Fitzpatrick, who competes his butt off every Sunday. Fitzpatrick made a chain of cash throws in wiping out a two-landing deficit in the second half, and he shunned the killer turnovers that have frightened him in the previous. It helps to have a man like DeVante Parker, who has broken out as a celeb playmaker in his fifth season. Parker is an example of why you manufacture not quit on abilities. The 2015 first-rounder has develop staunch into a participant this group can build round.

Adam Gase, we have been led to be aware of, had fixed the Jets. Sam Darnold had locked into sync with the coach's sport thought, and Gregg Williams' defense used to be balling out. Then Sunday came about, and all the goodwill gathered for the length of a three-sport successful trudge used to be wiped away. The Jets have been no match for the Bengals, bullied by an 0-11 personnel in a 22-6 loss in Cincinnati. The Jets change into the first personnel in NFL historical previous to lose to 2 groups that started a season 0-7 or worse (they bought whipped by the 0-7 Dolphins last month). Right here's all a extremely shadowy reflection on Gase, who did not have his personnel ready in a sport with playoff ramifications (on the assorted hand faint they would possibly per chance even have been). Gase known as a shadowy sport, too: Le'Veon Bell executed with correct 10 carries towards the NFL's worst walk defense. Customarily it feels like this group is chemically addicted to embarrassment.

Burn the tape! Execute the proof! By no system discuss of it again! These are all commands one would possibly per chance perhaps per chance imagine coming out of Cardinals headquarters after Sunday's embarrassing 34-7 loss to the Rams, a sport that featured almost nothing in the form of positives for the dwelling personnel. The defense gave up a season-high 549 yards, and the offense didn't unsuitable 100 yards except the fourth quarter. This used to be the fifth consecutive loss for Arizona, nonetheless all losses are not created equal, especially for a rebuilding personnel. Within the three defeats that preceded their Week 12 bye, the Cardinals hung not easy and seemed ready to hit their trudge in the encourage of rookie Kyler Murray. Week 13 represented a step encourage, and it rate a minimal of one participant his job. Starting up cornerback Tramaine Brock used to be launched on Monday. It would possibly per chance also not safe any easier for Murray this week, when the pink-sizzling Steelers raise their swarming defense to town.

One day in the season -- let's clock it round dumb September -- the Lions misplaced any capacity to close out games. Detroit has misplaced eight of nine, nonetheless the free-descend wouldn't have been so pronounced had the Lions dealt with their industrial. We saw that again on Thanksgiving, when a 17-7 second-quarter lead grew to alter into a 24-20 loss to the Bears. On the least the Lions have a truly feel-correct story in David Blough, whose first profession completion used to be a 75-yard landing to Kenny Golladay. The third-string QB led the Lions to any other landing on their second possession and threw for 280 yards towards a top defense. We are going to peek extra of the undrafted rookie, too: The Lions moved Jeff Driskel to injured reserve on Saturday with a hamstring harm. With Driskel done and Matthew Stafford (encourage) in limbo, you Bloughhards available are in for a contend with.

Giants fans sent a message to their personnel on Sunday, leaving thousands of empty seats at MetLife Stadium in Sunday's 31-13 loss to the Packers, Sleek York's eighth straight defeat. These are sad days for a personnel that stands as one among soccer's proudest and most decorated franchises. A shortage of incompatibility-makers on defense used to be evidently apparent towards the Packers, who scored 17 gains sooner than sending out their punter for the first time. Aaron Rodgers threw four landing passes without an interception because the Giants allowed an opponent to obtain a minimal of 30 gains for the seventh time in 12 games. Immense adjustments are on the horizon for Immense Blue, which would not have many foundational avid gamers beyond quarterback Daniel Jones and working encourage Saquon Barkley. Pat Shurmur hasn't been a winner in two seasons, nonetheless has he ever had a possibility?

That dude can advance off the roof now. The Bengals delivered a complete effort on both aspects of the ball in a 22-6 assign over the Jets. Cincinnati isn't very going to be part of the 2008 Lions and 2017 Browns in NFL infamy. Phew. Andy Dalton returned from an unearned benching and equipped a sound spark, picking aside a Jets secondary that had been taking part in effectively in recent weeks. Dalton's closing numbers would look for even better if not for a pair of pause-zone drops in the first half. Whereas Dalton starred for the offense, Carlos Dunlap led the defense in a dominating day. The old vogue defensive pause executed with three of the Bengals' four sacks, and Cincinnati held Sleek York to correct 271 complete yards. The cherry on top of the day? The Redskins also won, keeping the Bengals on the within notice for the No. 1 overall spend.
