You know what is interesting?? Bobby may not having been looking in that moment he connected with Athena, but he was looking - both of them were, actually. Bobby had just made a dating profile and Athena ws having fun getting back out there.
Bobby had opened himself up to the idea of love again, and he was searching for something, it just wasn’t in the place he expected. It was with someone he already knew, who saw him in a vulnerable moment, a friend.
Athena had been there for years but neither of them were in that place yet: Bobby was just his grief and Athena was still married. It was only when they were both ready to find something new and different that they saw each other.
Interesting that Eddie has downloaded a dating app that he hasn’t used, just like Bobby never needed his dating profile.
Eddie is ready, he’s searching, but it’s not going to be in the place he expects.
If his love story is going to be anything like Bobby’s - which seems to be what they’re hinting at here - then it’s going to be a friend who sees him in a low moment and helps him through.
NOW I WONDER WHO THAT COULD BE?????

Watching Tomorrow and had a thought.
Hen’s trying to keep Karen alive in the present. In the past, Chim calls Karen after she and Hen break up:
Chim: Karen, Hen is dead.
Karen: What? What are you talking about?
Chim: Okay, okay, she’s not. I’m sorry. Hen is not actually dead, but she had a pretty bad near-miss accident last night. … I know, I just, we had a really tough call. It was rough and there was a minute when I thought Hen was dead and it scared the crap out of me.
Karen: And you decided to pay that experience forward?
Chim: Yes. Look, look, I know you two broke up. And I just though you needed to know what it would feel like if you woke up tomorrow and you found out Hen wasn’t in this world anymore… You think about that before you get on that plane, okay?
The 18th episode of 6b is called Pay it Forward. It’s probably nothing, if you don’t think about Eddie waking up thinking Buck is dead after his accident and having to face that what means to him. But hey, what’s a parallel if not a parallel?
Also, at the end when Karen tells Hen to go home to Denny because he comes first instead of staying at the hospital with her… Smells a lot like Buck taking care of Chris if you ask me…
If the writers didn’t intend for HenRen and Buddie to legit parallel each other, then they’re blind.

ok hear me out: natalia is the anti-ali
ali liked buck for everything BUT his proximity to death. when he almost died, she couldn’t handle being with him. it didn’t matter that he was struggling and suffering in the aftermath, she couldn’t handle it.
natalia is infatuated with buck BECAUSE he died and came back to life. it doesn’t occur to her that it might’ve been traumatic for him, she is giddy like a kid on christmas morning.
and I’m anticipating once natalia realizes that either a) his job isn’t as dangerous as she wants it to be and becomes bored once the thrill of near-death loses its novelty or b) buck wants to live. he wants a life with someone who wants him alive — then this relationship will die out

He lifts his gaze just in time to see Buck lose his balance and fall to the ground, like a beautiful angel tossed away from Heaven. It’s graceful, it’s terrifying. It’s Hell.
He has enough time to scream Buck’s name, his own desperate cries echoing in his head, when an electrical malfunction causes an explosion that sends him to the ground with a loud thud.
Buck’s helmet lies next to him; the light reflects on the raindrops decorating it, painting a romantic scenery of blacks, yellows and reds. Eddie reaches out. His arm hurts where he landed, and his hand shakes as he tries to touch Buck’s helmet, like he’s hopelessly searching for a grip on reality.
Mayday, mayday, mayday. Firefighter is down, his radio tells him.
Buck’s fallen down. Buck has fallen down.

The aftermath of a thunderstorm.
6x10 speculation fic
The heavy and dense rain makes it hard to see anything beyond the ladder. It’s dark, the blinding lights of the trucks are reflected on the puddles, making it difficult to discern anything from the surroundings. The helmet visor is completely dotted with raindrops, altering Eddie’s vision. His turnout gear is soaked, his movements sloppy and difficult.
He takes tentative steps up the ladder, right behind Buck, when a lightning bolt strikes a building nearby, caught by the satellite antenna on the roof, making them jump in surprise. He counts. One, two, three—a rumble of thunder shakes him inside. Way too close.
“Buck!” he shouts.
They should go down. His radio crackles and Bobby’s voice comes through. It’s too dangerous, he says. Come back.
Eddie calls Buck’s name again, but the incessant pattering of the rain on the concrete floor, on the metal of the truck and on his helmet makes it impossible to hear.
Buck keeps going up, too focused on his task. The attic they’re trying to reach is flooding by the minute, and if the rain wasn’t so heavy and loud he’s sure they could hear the high-pitched cries of the kid hiding in there.
Another thunder makes its way into the clattering of rain, rattling Eddie’s bones. He spares a thought for Christopher – how scary it must be for him to think of his dad in such a bad storm – when a flashing light blinds him and disorientates him. He wobbles and hangs onto the rungs of the ladder, hoping his rubber gloves have enough of a grip to keep him in place.

Long time lurker on buddie tumblr, first time poster because I NEED to get this out since I haven’t seen anyone mention it yet re: Eddie, repressed queerness and Catholicism. Everyone’s focusing on this episode’s mentions of Eddie being alone while ignoring a little moment which, to me, speaks hugely of Eddie’s repressed queerness.
I’m not necessary a gay!Eddie truther but I am a big fan of the idea that he is a repressed gay man. Why? Because when I look at him I see myself.
I am an ex-Catholic, gay woman who repressed my gayness so damn hard that I managed to wipe certain memories from myself until I start unpacking all my trauma and managed to come to terms with the idea of being not straight first, and eventually being completely okay with being 100% homosexual.
The reason this is bugging me so hard is because I had to pause 6x14 less than two minutes in to face palm and bemoan Eddie’s ridiculousness.
Why?
“I can’t marry a stranger.”
Pepa is presenting the idea of dating to Eddie and his immediate response is to jump to the idea of marrying this person.
When he was dating Ana, the only thing he was considering with her was her appropriateness for raising Christopher with him, not whether she made him smile, made his heart race, whether he couldn’t imagine life without her. But whether she was nice and easy to be with enough that he could marry her for Christopher to have a step mother but as soon as that thought became a little more concrete he panicked because he wasn’t actually ready for it.
Pepa presents a potential date to Eddie and he (however mildly) immediately freaks out and jumps straight to the idea of marrying this woman he’s never met before.
Eddie....what the hell, bro?
Even Pepa is like ‘who said anything about marriage?’
But the thing is I GET IT.
I totally get it. Eddie’s Catholic. I’m Catholic. We probably had similar upbringings regarding relationships and how you’re supposed to pursue them. For anyone who was lucky enough not to have Catholicism inflicted upon them from birth, you need to understand how being raised Catholic makes you view marriage.
When you’re Catholic, marriage isn’t something that may happen if you meet the right person and it’s something you both want and makes sense for you and your relationship. When you’re Catholic, marriage is an REQUIREMENT. It’s a must. It’s shoved down your throat as something you need to do in order to have a fulfilling life and be a good Catholic. Marriage is something to aspire to. It’s pushed on you as something to have to do.
The Catholic church has sacraments that mark important milestones in your life and one of those is matrimony. It’s not presented as an option, it’s presented as something you must do in order to complete your journey in life. Go forth and multiply and all that shit.
So, Eddie being raised Catholic and Eddie immediately equating dating someone with marrying them makes sense. It makes so much sense to me as a Catholic.
AND it also makes sense if Eddie’s a gay man.
One of the things I did prominently and repeatedly in life in order to repress my gayness was choose men to fall for, and I didn’t just consider them someone to date, I considered them someone I was going to marry and have children with. Be the good Catholic girl. I didn’t necessarily see it a religious experience but it was definitely an influence brought to me by being raised Catholic and attending Catholic schools.
Eddie being presented with nice, pretty, easy to get along with women he could date immediately considering whether he could marry them is such a repressed gay Catholic thing to do.
Oh, but Erin, he could be bi and the same thing applies.
Yes and no. I hope this doesn’t come out sounding wrong but I think he would respond differently if he was repressing being bisexual as opposed to being gay. Being bisexual would mean he could still be attracted to those women and could pretend his attraction to men didn’t exist and would still be able to have satisfactory and happy, lasting relationships with women. Eddie can’t seem to do that. He loved Shannon, yes, I will fight anyone and everyone who claims he didn’t, but he was younger then. I loved plenty of men when I was younger and I definitely loved them but that didn’t mean I was ever truly attracted to them or could have satisfying relationships with them in the long run. And wasn’t that the entire point of the Eddie/Shannon fiasco in season 2? That it never would have been good for either of them in the long run? As much as he loved her, he married her the first time because she got pregnant and then he wanted to try again with her so they could be a family for Christopher’s sake and because they thought they had gotten pregnant again.
The idea of Eddie focusing so hard on the idea that a good, straight, Catholic boy needs to marry a good, nice, pretty woman to me says he’s definitely repressing queerness. And look, I’m here for bi Eddie, pan Eddie, demi Eddie, any of them, just as long as the damn show acknowledges his queerness, but gay Eddie makes so much sense to me personally, because I see so much of myself in his reactions to the women he dates.
And so many things about his behaviour in 6x14 are calling to me in very familiar ways. But that’s just my thoughts, I dunno. I’d love for the show to do a really lovely coming out story for Eddie (a la Santana in Glee. Problematic show but my god I always cry when she comes out to her Abuela in 3x07). I try not to get my hopes about it but I’d like it.

Eddie in 6x12
Eddie: I heard you were depressed so...
Eddie, throwing Chris into Buck's arms: Here.
Buck: You can't do this everytime I'm depressed.
Eddie, already wlaking out the door: YES I CAN!
Chris: Yes, he can.

If nothing happens with Buddie tonight, please please please please don’t take it out on the writers or actors or leave negative reviews online. Don’t make this into another In Another Life incident simply because something didn’t happen. If it’s a bad episode, then yeah sure low score it, but if it’s only because Buck and Eddie didn’t have a wild love confession and bathroom hookup scene… then just rant on here and go to bed. You’ll feel better in the morning, but the people who worked hard on it will feel like garbage if they see all the hate for something that they didn’t explicitly promise. I know it’s a small group of people who did it last time and may not even be on here, but if this helps keep even one person from doing it, then that’s good.

Since I’ve been seeing a bunch of theories of “Animal Instincts” and how it relates to Buddie, I kinda have a theory.
What if...The Buckley-Diaz family are on a family outing (zoo, park, restaurant, etc.) and then while they’re walking, some random jerk keeps mumbling about Christopher and Eddie and Buck choose to ignore it and keep it moving (also Chris is completely oblivious so why bother bringing this to his attention, right?)
This goes on for a couple more minutes before the jerk says something out loud about how slow Chris is going (because crutches) and before Eddie can turn around and say something, Buck is gripping the guy’s collar and pulling him to his face and is basically “Say one more thing about Chris and I’m fucking you up. Keep it moving, dick.” So, the jerk gets spooked and walks away meanwhile Eddie is standing there, stunned at what he just saw.
Fast forward, everyone is back at Eddie’s place and Buck and Eddie are drinking beers in the kitchen when Eddie brings up what happened and is all like:
“Wow, you really went after that guy, huh?”
And then Buck, with almost no hesitation, says something along the lines of:
"Hell yeah! I wasn’t gonna let anyone disrespect our kid!”
Almost immediately, Buck and Eddie are left staring at each other in shock for about a minute before Buck panics and makes his way out the kitchen, into Chris’ bedroom to say goodbye, and is then out Eddie’s door with a hasty “later!” And Eddie is left staring at the door thinking:
Oh.

I AM FEELING THINGS ABOUT 6x13. SO MANY FEELINGS!
First of all: Yay to the return of calls. I liked the last episodes a lot, but I missed the calls and I think the show needs them to appeal more to general audiences.
Second: My god, the cat about Danny‘s Dad is finally out of the bag. It was about damn time! And I‘m happy Hen and Karen handled it so gently with the Help of Hen‘s mum.
Madney‘s storyline this episode seemed a little random, but I hope it was the start of more Bathena & Madney double dates, cause I can imagine them being hilarious together.
Bathena just made me smile so much this episode. They are so cute together. And I am so so so happy about Bobby‘s growth this season. Dealing with his Sponsor’s death without shoving the memories away and admitting Buck is kind of his kid and staying sober, being a happy husband and May‘s second Dad…it‘s beautiful and I am so here for happy and healthy Bobby!
And as for the Elephant in the Room? The Buddie of this episode was some next Level ‚straight out of fanfic‘ premium material. It ate and left no crumbs. Seriously, could Eddie do any more ‚oh my god I am so happy that idiot didn‘t die because I love him‘ Heart eyes at Buck? Because I think then he‘d just die of pining. THEY ARE SO CUTE AND HAPPY AND RELAXED TOGETHER IT IS SO BEAUTIFUL I WANT TO BITE INTO THAT DAMN COUCH METAPHOR.
The Poker scene was SUCH FUN. The Math-Scene with Chris was so domestic and so cute. „3 Minutes and 17 seconds“ altered my brain chemistry. Buck and Chris baking together warmed my heart. I JUST…this was auch a great episode.
The Steaks had me chuckling and Chim‘s „Did he Just do math? In his head?“ had me grinning and „Could you and law enforcement join us for dinner“ was so on brand and Bobby being annoyed at Eddie & Buck betting at the firehouse was great fun.
It was just such a beautifully composed mixture of Plot movement, character Interaction, humour and ‚cases‘. The Blend That Makes 911 the great Show it is, imho.
Also, Buck and Eddie nearly accidentially held hands when they came to collect their winnings and you can‘t tell me otherwise.

what if buck’s only interested in the dead girl because he’s like ‘i really want you to yassify my deadness because i’m feeling really unyassified right now’ and it actually has nothing to do with romantic interest… like maybe he plays it out as meeting her for dates, telling the team they’re dates; like he did with his therapist. just a thought mhm.
i’m delusional but let me have this.
