ML AU: Lady of Second Chances: Origins

(Idea here)

-Marinette pieces together that she is back in the past pretty quick, and it’s 24 hours before her first day of school.

-after realizing it’s all real she needed to ensure she remembered everything.

-Fortunately for her, she remembered the abilities and powers of all the miraculous by heart, and even some of the potion recipes. (the Aqua, ice and Space power ups) but she wasn’t too worried. Those were the only ones she remembered coming into play. She wrote everything down in a journal. A super secret journal, one that was more hidden than her actual one. Mainly because she remembers when she ran for class rep, Sabrina goes to steal it.

-She remembers that Fu will still be around. Which means maybe she could prevent her biggest failures from happening!

-But first thing first, she needed to ensure her friendship with Alya was the same! It was a staple.

-But what about Adrien? Sure things were starting to get easier with him and they even start dating, but can she at least avoid doing some of the embarrassing things?

-Well first thing first, she needed to play one thing for certain right. The events with stone heart needed to happen.

-Marinette did her best to live step by step the events of her first few days of school. Her friendship with Alya began, and it took her all her self control to NOT tell her she’s ladybug. Right now wasn’t the time.

-It also took all her self control to pretend to not care about Adrien, and pretend like he was a jerk like Chloe.

-though a brief slip did cause Marinette to call chat noir by his name Before the introduction.

-But she was able to play it off by saying he looked like one.

-Chat noir found it amusing and called her Miss Spots. But she insisted on ladybug.

-Ladybug had to remember she was an amateur, so she had to nerf herself a bit. Even suppressing her urge purify stone heart the first time.

-But one difference was she made Stoneheart a charm. Something she didn’t do originally.

-This was a surprise to Fu, who never knew The Ladybug miraculous could do such a thing.

-Chat noir fell for ladybug, just like in canon.

-The umbrella scene happened as in canon, interestingly, Marinette didn’t need to pretend to be extra blushy. That boy just had that effect on her.

-Though the few changes Marinette made were noticed. Marinette never had her hero crisis, as she already had it.

-Alya noticed Marinette was more confident than she let on. (Marinette had to pretend Chloé’s words impacted her, but they long since lost value)

-Marinette informed Tikki of her History. Letting the kwami know something’s. Marinette told Tikki she shouldn’t tell anyone. Which Tikki promised. But Tikki was curious on a LOT.

-Chat noir was a bit more Floored by the confident Ladybug. And this one was also a bit flirty with him!?

Glittering Cotton Candy

Marinette was so excited to eat delicious cotton candy sprinkled with edible glitter. It fit her aesthetic perfectly; the only problem was there were two large lines for the sweet treat, one for blueberry cotton candy and another for strawberry cotton candy. But Marinette still waited excitedly and even spoke with the children in line with her. At one point, she couldn't help but let the children go ahead of her because she knew her time was coming up.

The strawberry cotton candy was given out by a gentleman with pink hair. The blueberry cotton candy was given out by a man with blue hair, and the man with blue hair was busy attending to someone else.

"Would you like some blueberry cotton candy with plenty of sparkles, young man?"

"Yes, sir!"

Marinette recognized that suave voice anywhere.

"Luka!" Marinette beamed.

Before Luka could take his sparkly blue cotton, he turned and smiled brightly at Marinette. "Hey Marinette!"

Marinette started to blush as pink as strawberry cotton candy, and Luka smiled down at her but tried to break the silence by clearing his throat.

"It's great to see you here," he said.

"Y-Yes!" Marinette cried. The vendor for the pink cotton candy handed her a pretty pink cotton candy on a stick.

"Strawberry flavored mademoiselle?"

Marinette quickly turned and smiled sheepishly. "Yes, sir! I appreciate it!" She took the cotton candy and handed a dollar to the kind gentleman.

Marinette was relieved to finally have her cotton candy, but she also thanked her lucky stars that she met Luka at the perfect time and that Luka liked cotton candy with glitter too! The two of them decided to eat the flowers.

Marinette kept twirling her cotton candy so the edible glitter could sparkle in the sunlight, and then she was ready to eat.

"I have been waiting for this all day!" Marinette cried before taking a bite from the soft treat and savoring the sweet taste.

Luka smiled at her before taking a bite of his own blueberry candy. The sparkles made the treat extra special, but it was nowhere near as beautiful as Marinette.

"So worth it!" Marinette cried.

Then she turned to Luka and walked up to him. Her eyes glittered like cotton candy, as if the cotton candy had magic power.

"Luka?"

Luka paused from eating. "Yes Marinette?"

Marinette placed her hands together. "Can I please share cotton candy with you?"

Luka's aqua-blue eyes shined down on her.

“Of course Marinette.”

Marinette squealed and traded her strawberry candy with his blueberry candy, and Marinette picked a piece off to eat it.

"Mmm! Blueberry!" Marinette cried.

Luka hid his blushing face behind the cotton candy and took a small piece to taste the delicious strawberry flavor.

It was a lovely day at the carnival. But then Marinette and Luka's phones went off simultaneously for Akuma alerts. Marinette couldn't help but whine because another Akuma was trying to ruin a good day. But she didn't want Luka chasing after her and putting himself in danger, so she clenched her fist and ran in the other direction.

"Marinette no!" Luka cried as he tried to run after her.

Marinette turned as she ran away and looked at him with a sorrowful look that caused Luka to stop.

"I'm sorry, Luka!"

Marinette turned and continued running. She thought about the heartbreaking look on his face.

Luka dropped the pink cotton candy he took from Marinette, and Sass appeared to quickly eat the cotton candy for energy. When Sass finished eating, he flew in front of Luka's face, and Luka snapped out of it.

"It's time to transform Master Luka!" Sass said.

Luka nodded. "Yes!" And he took the snake kwami and ran to a private place where he could transform.

Marinette panted as she leaned against a tree, and even before she fought the Akuma, she was tired and dropped the blueberry cotton candy she was holding. Tikki appeared and enjoyed a piece of the glittering blue cotton candy. But then she looked up and saw how heartbroken Marinette was. The red kwami floated up and gave Marinette a reassuring look. Marinette felt the need to set her worries to the side.

"Don't worry Marinette! You can transform and protect Luka!"

Marinette blinked and then allowed Tikki to perch on her hands. "Ok Tikki!"

"Spots on!"

Viperion was ready for anything but was utterly taken aback when he saw the Akuma menace from afar. He was so stunned that it took Ladybug swinging in and landing next to him to get him to snap out of it.

"Viperion, what's wrong?"

Viperion only gave Ladybug an upset look, and then Ladybug saw a pink cotton candy Akuma, causing commotion for everyone at the carnival.

"You got to be kidding me!" Ladybug cried.

Viperion frowned. "Maybe a child really wanted some cotton candy."

Ladybug thought about how she had let some children go ahead of her to get some cotton candy, and unbeknownst to her, Luka had also let some children go ahead of him. Both heroes came to the conclusion that someone is having a bad day.

Viperion summoned his harp. "Don't worry! I can soothe anyone who is hurt." And he jumped off.

"Viperion wait!" Ladybug jumped after him.

The cotton candy Akuma was causing everyone to scream as cotton candy made everything in the carnival sticky. Viperion told everyone to run, and then he faced the Akuma while running his fingers through his harp. The Akuma noticed but didn't seem phased by Viperion's beautiful melody.

"Please don't ruin the carnival for everyone, oh troubled heart," Viperion said as he played with more vigor.

Ladybug had to stop being infatuated, but having a hero like Viperion around can make everything feel alright and make it easy to see the silver lining in the future.

But then Ladybug realized the Akuma was too strong as Viperion's music didn't phase it. The troubled Akuma turned the green trees cotton candy pink with dark magic.

"Oh no, the trees!" But Ladybug paused as a sweet scent filled her nose. It was almost hypnotic.

"They smell like candy!" Ladybug cried.

Then Ladybug and Viperion turned to see children walking towards the cotton candy trees, looking like they were all in trances. Both heroes cried in distress and pleaded for the children to come to their senses, but a few started climbing the trees. Ladybug and Viperion tried to pull them off, but the children cried out and refused.

Ladybug wouldn't give up because seeing delicious cotton candy used for evil was heartbreaking. But at a distance, she saw more trees turning baby blue like Luka's favorite cotton candy and another akuma, made of blueberry cotton candy, heading toward them.

Ladybug glared and twirled her yo-yo. "I won't let that Akuma get any closer!" And Ladybug ran off.

"Ladybug!" Viperion cried.

But before Viperion could reach her, the pink Akuma monster knocked Viperion down with a pile of cotton candy that was a lot denser than cotton candy that dissolved on your tongue. Viperion growled as he got up and pulled the sticky cotton candy off him.

Ladybug faced the giant blue Akuma and twirled her yo-yo swiftly.

"I won't let you ruin everyone's day!" Ladybug cried as she threw her yo-yo to lasso the creature.

Ladybug pulled, but she captured a giant glob of blue stuff that launched into her. She had to dig herself out and pull some blueberry-scented candy from her red suit.

"Ladybug!" Viperion cried as he placed his hands on her shoulders from behind.

Ladybug looked intently at the two akumas, seemingly stuck in their own world of sickly sweetness.

"What could possibly be troubling these two?" Ladybug asked.

Viperion got in front of her and played his harp again. But instead of trying to dispel the Akuma's powers, he closed his eyes. The snake hero attempted to understand what the two troubled akumas were trying to convey. He hoped the two akumas would open up to them.

“Want….Cotton candy…”

Both Ladybug and Viperion were stunned.

"Glittery cotton candy…"

"I want…"

Ladybug understood and quickly summoned her lucky charm. And today's lucky charm was simple: two paper cotton candy cones, one with ladybug spots and another with snake scales. She handed the cone with the snake scales to Viperion, and Viperion knew what to do.

The two heroes switched directions, and Viperion faced the blue Akuma while Ladybug faced the pink Akuma. Both heroes presented their cones.

"Please let me have some cotton candy," Ladybug and Viperion said in unison.

The two cotton candy creatures growled at Ladybug and Viperion. Still, both heroes raised their hands in protest and gave genuine looks of concern.

"Please, little one…" Ladybug said.

"It doesn't have to be this way," Viperion said.

Ladybug and Viperion presented the paper cones, and the akumas gave them a generous portion of cotton candy. And with a bit of magic, the cotton candy glittered like snow.

Ladybug and Viperion quickly changed targets, and Ladybug and Viperion smiled as they gifted different flavors of cotton candy to the Akumas.

"Go ahead and take it," Ladybug said.

But Ladybug and Viperion both yelped when the akumas forcibly took the cotton candy. There was silence for a moment, and then, with a "poof!" right before their eyes, the cotton candy akumas disappeared, revealing two children holding the cotton candy sticks. Ladybug and Viperion took notice of the dark butterflies flying around, and both caught the dark butterflies in their hands and purified them with their magic, changing them back into gentle white butterflies that flew away.

"Goodbye butterflies," Viperion said.

Ladybug couldn't help but notice that Viperion sounded a bit melancholy when he said that, but then she saw the two children, who were akumatized, happily running back to their respective parents. Viperion turned to Ladybug, and Ladybug snapped herself out of it and called upon the magical ladybugs.

"Don't worry! Easy fix! The ladybugs will love to take care of all this cotton candy," Ladybug said.

The magical ladybugs did make quick work, happily eating all the cotton candy and restoring the trees back into emerald green leaves. Viperion managed to smile again.

"Thank you, Ladybug," Viperion said.

Ladybug blushed and placed her hand behind her head. “No problem Viperion.”

Then, Viperion gestured to her to take a walk with him, and Ladybug eagerly followed.

It was nice for them to walk together, but Ladybug was reminded of the two cotton candy vendors.

"Hey Viperion, are you sick of eating cotton candy?"

"Hm?" Viperion asked. He pondered for a moment, but then he chuckled into his hand. "Surprisingly, no."

"Really?" Ladybug cried.

As the two heroes walked, they both took notice of the two cotton candy vendors selling cotton candy again as if a sugar nightmare hadn't nearly destroyed the carnival.

Ladybug and Viperion stood momentarily, watching the vendors happily give everyone a cotton candy. But eventually, the vendors noticed the two heroes and happily ran up to them with paper cones of glittering cotton candy.

"Hello there, Ladybug and Viperion!" Said the vendor with the pink hair.

Ladybug raised her hand and felt awkward. "Oh hello Sir!"

The cotton candy vendor with the blue hair smiled next to Viperion. "Would you two children like some cotton candy?"

Ladybug and Viperion were stunned, but they giggled softly after a minute of silence.

"Of course!" Viperion said.

The two vendors smiled, but then they looked at each other before looking back at Ladybug at Viperion.

"Would either of you want strawberry," asked the pink-haired vendor.

"Or blueberry," The blue-haired vendor chimed in.

Ladybug placed her fingers on her chin and pondered. "I think I will have strawberry!"

Viperion grinned. "Blueberry is my favorite."

Ladybug enthusiastically ate the beautiful pink cotton candy, and Viperion couldn't help but watch his partner enjoy the strawberry fluff. Then Ladybug noticed Viperion staring at her, and he took a bite out of his blueberry candy cloud.

The two of them ended up sitting by the flowers, eating their cotton candy together and enjoying each other's company.

But both heroes couldn't help but notice that this all felt awfully familiar…

Although both Ladybug and Viperion didn't think about it further as they happily shared their cotton candy with each other. Almost breaking out into a cotton candy fight.

As heroes, a fun cotton candy fight sounded much better than fighting Akumas every week.

These are some concepts I made for ladybugs transformations, based on the existing transformations in the show, aqua bug, ice bug, and Cosmo bug.

In my miraculous rewrite the Kwami's don’t need food power ups to get extra abilities. I don’t have an issue with this writing choice, I just feel like it’s a bit unnecessary and also make Tikki and Plagg look restricted when they’re supposed to be beings with God like powers.

Instead Tikki and Plagg can conjure these extra powers whenever specific circumstances arise, and instead it’s the miraculous holders who transform their suits to better fit the scenario.

Let me know what you think of these designs and feel free to give any suggestions on how I could improve them.

Below is just some extra exposition for these redesigns

(Fyi under each outfit is the same grey spandex suit with red spots for body protection)

🏊‍♀️🐟🌊 Aqua bug’s cannon suit is the least offensive in my opinion, the added details of the pink fins and scaly suit was a nice touch. Despite this though her outfit it still very samey to her regular suit, so I wanted to change it up a bit. My Aqua bug wears a red one-piece swimsuit with pink sparkly trim, she still has her transparent pink flippers, and her hair is now tied in a bun with a sparkly pink scrunchie. I think the simplest way to explain the vibe I wanted is that: cannon aqua bug looks like a fish; my aqua bug looks like a cute scuba diver.

🏂⛸❄ Ice bug’s cannon suit infuriates me, I know that with the 3D animation its more costly to make new models but c’mon, they just stuck white fur to her skintight suit, overlaid her suit with snowflakes and gave her a tiara like :/ how is that supposed to keep her warm. ALSO, why the ice skates, yes in that one episode with the ice-skating Akuma they came in handy, but other than that when would she ever need this power up. Fun fact ladybugs are very vulnerable in the cold; it triggers their hibernation instincts, so I wanted to play into that a bit. Ladybug becomes sluggish in the cold so to cope she has a fluff lined coat and boots, mittens and a fluffy beret. And if she needed ice skates, she could just create some. To summarize: cannon ice bug looks like a Disney on ice reject, my ice bug looks like someone dressed for winter.

👩‍🚀🛸🌠 Finally, Cosmo bug…I hate it. She is still wearing the exact same ladybug suit just with a different coloration, a jet pack just glued to her back and the worst offender, a helmet…that doesn’t even cover her whole friggin head, chat noir oh yeah, he gets a proper functional helmet, but ladybug NOOOO she needs to have her hair and ears showing otherwise she won’t look pretty enough. I was very inspired by the space age fashion craze from the 60s, as well as another French co-produced cartoon Atomic Betty. Ladybug dons this sturdy combat dress, with her belt buckle serving as a holder for her magic compact, paired with funky space boots. Her helmet covers her entire head and is a transparent pink glass with pinkish white spots covering the whole surface; her wings are made of the same material and magically sprout from the spot on her back. Overall cannon space bug looks like a knockoff power ranger, my space bug looks like a fashion forward astronaut.

So if Aya already knows about the Coven Box Kwamis, hands down i can see her being the one making the upgrade potions (ice, Aqua, space, etc) without Nathaniel knowing.

Aya: *Pouring different ingredients into a small cauldron* Maison, you bastard, why’d you have to write the recipes all weird? What the hell is “A branch from the dragon’s kingdom”? Ah, screw this. Could you all be dears and summon Maison, please? And if you could hurry before Nathan gets back, that’d be wonderful.

*The Kwamis get in a circle and start chanting. In a few seconds, Maison’s ghost appears*

Maison: Aya, darling! To what do I owe the-

Aya: What is with you and these weird-ass riddles?!

Maison: What? I liked how they sound.

Aya: … The gold of the apis’ home?

Maison: Honey from a beehive!

Aya: Well, since you seem to remember the ingredients, you can help me make the power ups for Nathan and his team.

Maison: Fiiine, but only for him.

Aya: That’s all I ask.

Maison: Love you~

Aya: Ah, shut it, you.

Miraculous Ladybug Rewrite– Miracle Queen

Hawk Moth Akumatizes André and Audrey Bourgeois into Heart Hunter, intending to make Ladybug collect a Miraculous to recruit an ally so he can follow her to the Guardian and capture her, then, once he succeeds on that front, offers Chloé the Bee Miraculous in an attempt to manipulate her into siding with him against Ladybug and Chat Noir. Chloé pretends to accept his offer, taking the comb to transform into Queen Bee. But while Hawk Moth charges up an Akuma for her, she uses the trompo to launch herself off of the roof and flees across the rooftops.

Hawk Moth moves on to his backup: Lila Rossi. He offers her a Miraculous of her choice (she takes the Fox) and she agrees to become Miracle Queen. He does not vary the powerset he grants her by too much from what he intended for Chloé, so she still generates bee-like drones that mind-control everyone in Paris, including the temporary Miraculous Holders. This also works as a conclusion to the Season 3 arc along with "Ladybug", showing Lila as a threat to Ladybug the way that episode showed her as a threat to Marinette.

Queen Bee finds Ladybug after the latter saw that Master Fu had vanished, and warns her that Hawk Moth has the Miracle Box. Just then, Miracle Queen's swarm approaches. Ladybug gives Queen Bee an Aqua-power macaroon and they dive underwater to escape them. They meet up with Chat Noir (who had just escaped from the swarm himself after Kagami was stung) and tell him what happened. (He initially fears that Chloé has been Akumatized before seeing to his relief that she is with Ladybug.

Miracle Queen summons the temporary heroes to reveal themselves to her and Hawk Moth, learning in the process that Alya is Rena Rouge. Realizing that Ladybug, Chat Noir, and Queen Bee have escaped the drones, she has the mind-controlled heroes take their Miraculouses (save for Alya, Nino and Kagami), so they can fight the remaining heroes, declaring that from now on, the only truth Paris will know shall be "her" truth.

Ladybug unites with the Dragon Miraculous to become Dragonbug and creates a sphere of water to hold off the drones while she, Chat Noir, and Queen Bee fight the mind-controlled heroes. Chat defeats Viperion and takes the Snake Miraculous to become Snake Noir, and Queen Bee defeats King Monkey and takes the Monkey Miraculous to become Monkey Bee. Monkey Bee uses Uproar to disable Miracle Queen, and Snake Noir destroys the Akumatized flute.

Master Fu relinquishes the title of Guardian and passes it to Ladybug, causing Hawk Moth to lose the Miracle Box and forcing him to retreat. Lila puts the unused Miraculouses on and tries to order the Kwamis around, but they refuse her. Dragonbug confronts her over everything, and Lila continues to complain and insult the hero before Dragonbug punches her and then takes the Miraculouses back.

In the denouement, Ladybug and Chat Noir talk and realize that, with Ladybug now being the Guardian and Hawk Moth knowing the temporary heroes' identities as well as possessing the Grimoire translations, they need to trust each other now more than ever. So they reveal their identities to each other. After processing all of that, they start dating. (They also ask Kagami out as well and they become a thruple, although she does not know their identities yet.)

It’s not explicitly stated, but I have a hunch that Alix won’t be able to come back home until she’s an adult.

All those postcards that Alim Kubdel has are from adult!Alix, which makes me suspect that Alix ain’t returning for a good decade or so.

And Alim even takes a good loooooong look at Alix because he doesn’t want to forget what she looked like as a child...

Imagine an established relationship, pre reveal Ladrien scenario that goes something like this: obviously, their relationship has to be a secret. Individually, Adrien and Ladybug attract paparazzi and the press like flies to honey. If news broke out that they were an official couple, they would never know any peace!

It’s not a problem when Ladybug visits him in the privacy of his room, but attempting to go out together poses a major challenge. At first, she tried dressing him up in different clothes than usual, and she even gave him massive sunglasses and a hat. It worked for a little while, but then someone took a picture of Ladybug carrying a random civilian across a rooftop when there wasn’t an akuma around, and that picture worked up the public into a frenzy of speculation. Gossip of that incident wouldn’t stop spreading for months. Clearly, this method of disguising Adrien wouldn’t cut it.

Then one day, for no reason in particular, Marinette recalled the time that Alya pointed out that Adrien looks sort of like Chat Noir... and she had a eureka moment. Ladybug hanging out with a random civilian looks weird, but Ladybug spending time with Chat Noir? Nobody would bat an eye!

And that train of thought led to Ladybug showing up at Adrien’s window a few months later with a custom made Chat Noir cosplay for him to wear.

Welp.

Imagine if Ladybug was in the habit of storing random crap in her yoyo. When Gabriel got his hands on it, he would reach in and pull out:

-2 dozen passionfruit macaroons

-A crumpled up sheet of paper containing her speech to “Buttercup”

-A whole load of snacks for all the kwamis

-All those tips she wrote for Alya back when Scarabella was a thing, printed out in a tiny font

-A smartphone (it’s not hers)

-The roses that Chat Noir gives her

-Portable sewing kit

-Homework from 2 years ago

-Pencil with teeth marks in it

-A vial of potion that was nearly about to explode and she didn’t know what to do with it so she shoved it into a magical pocket dimension never to be seen again (oops)

Raii is quite cheerful and silly kwami. She gets very emotional to an extreme, especially when she’s angry, and takes a while to calm down. She doesn’t really get attached to her holders and sometimes even prefers to switch them a lot.

Overflow- Turns the holder into water.

Unsharkling- Turns an object into water.

Aqua Pura- The Cure. Things are wet.

Loving like Cats and Dogs Miraculous AU Valentine Fic

Just a little something I wrote for Valentine's day in one of my favorite AUs.

Adrien has Sabrina over for a Valentine's day dinner. He's got a gift for her, and she's brought something as well. An expected encounter with his father takes an unexpected twist. The outcome convinces Adrien to present his gift sooner, rather than later. Full text after the break

"I got it! I got it!" Adrien skidded the last dozen feet on the smooth soles of his dress shoes.

His former bodyguard, dressed in a tuxedo every bit as neat and fitted as Adrien's, pulled back and gave him a confused look. Adrien offered him a reassuring smile and waved him off.

"You take care of the dinner, I've got the girl."

As his bodyguard-cum-butler retreated, Adrien gave himself a once over. His hair was braided back and tamed into a club-tail at his nape. His tuxedo was pristine, a Gabriel Original once again. He was about to open the door when Plagg's scratchy voice hissed from a nearby potted plant. "Kid! Kid! Didja forget something?"

Plagg floated up, and Adrien gasped. In his paws Plagg held a velvety box. He wiggled it in the air, dodging once before letting Adrien grab it.

"Thanks, Plagg. You're a lifesaver." Adrien reflexively checked in the box, before stuffing it in his pocket.

His kwami affected disinterest. "I just didn't want you interrupting us later, running back for it."

Adrien couldn"t help but tease. "Tag again, Plagg?"

His kwami's black cheeks still managed to tint red. "No! Well…maybe." He flailed his paws. "It's important kwami stuff, you wouldn't understand!"

Adrien just grinned while Plagg sank back into the plant. One more once over, this time touching his pocket too, and Adrien opened the door.

She was lovely. Years of bias counted for something, but Adrien wanted to believe he could have picked her out of a crowd as a total stranger. If not, he knew the failing was entirely his own.

Sabrina had braided her hair over both temples and swept the braids behind both ears. In the most rare of treats, her glasses were off. That perpetual barrier removed, her eyes stood out all the more. She startled as he opened the door and stuffed her gloved hands along with a flash of red behind herself, straightening up to her barely 150cm in height.

She gave him a bright smile though, and rocked her shoulders to match her smile of greeting. "Happy Valentine's day. You're looking dappurrrr today."

Dapper described Sabrina too. She was dressed just as Adrien was, in a full tuxedo. Hers was aqua and turquoise in place of traditional black. A choice Adrien's father had made himself, when he offered to dress Sabrina for the occasion.

Adrien stepped out, expecting to take Sabrina's hands, but she kept them firmly behind herself. Instead he touched a hand to her hip. "Happy Valentine's day, love." Then he leaned in to continue the game in a whisper, "You know, you'll never really be a ca-nine in my eyes Sabs, because you're always a ten to me."

She snorted a giggle, bringing her hands around to cover her mouth. *Poof* she smacked herself in the face with a small bouquet of roses.

"Owwww." Sabrina rubbed her cheek. "See, this is why I wear glasses."

Adrien reached up to cup the scratched spot, brushing his thumb over the marked but not broken skin. "I can kiss it and make it better?"

She recovered quickly and countered, "Later? And more than one kiss."

"A dozen, one for each of my roses."

Sabrina pulled the bouquet back from him. "Ah, ah, ah. These are not for you, grabby kitty. They're for someone else."

Adrien pouted playfully. "No flowers for your devoted boyfriend?"

Sabrina went up on her toes to nip his chin. "Says who? After dinner, we'll see."

A thrill ran along his limbs, rebounding into a warmth in his chest. Adrien hooked Sabrina's arm with his own and led her inside. "I'll be sure to eat quickly then…who are the flowers for?"

"You'll see."

As they crossed into the atrium Adrien caught sight of an orange streak slipping out of Sabrina's jacket pocket and making a beeline for the plant Plagg had staked out. He did a quick scan of the room, but the kwamis had gotten quite good at timing their adventures. They were alone.

The solitude did not last. As if on cue, the doors to his father's atelier opened just as they reached the dining room. His father emerged, hands clasped in the small of his back. "Adrien. Sabrina."

Adrien turned them off course to stop before Gabriel. "Yes Father?"

Beside him, Sabrina ducked her head. "Hello Mr. Agreste. Thank you for the clothes, sir."

Gabriel hesitated, a habitual pause that Adrien could not explain, but it had coincided with his father's slow thaw towards the world, so he did not question it. "I wanted to see my work on the recipient and- to wish you a happy day together."

The second part surprised Adrien. "Thank you Father. I- appreciate it."

Sabrina straightened up and stepped away from him, turning in place slowly. She had none of a model's grace, yet all of that bouncy energy Adrien loved. "Am I wearing it okay?"

Whatever his father saw, his answer gave nothing away. Instead his eyes fell to the bouquet. "Flowers, Adrien? Very traditional for you; yet a perennial display of refinement."

Adrien was still trying to untangle his father's not-compliment when Sabrina answered for him. "Actually, Mr. Agreste. I brought them. I was actually hoping you might be able to help me deliver them."

His father's look of confusion might as well have been Adrien's own. Gabriel questioned, "Deliver them?"

Sabrina nodded. "They're for Emilie. I thought she might like them from you best."

Adrien’s heart missed a beat. His father looked positively stricken. “Emilie-”

Sabrina nodded quickly, offering out the flowers and explaining, “Just because she’s not here, doesn’t mean you stop loving her, right? I just thought, if you were going to talk to her today, she might like these too?”

Sabrina started confident but seemed to realize she might have dipped into more than she expected. She glanced nervously toward the garden where Emilie’s memorial stood.

Seeking to forestall a meltdown, Adrien reached out to take the flowers from her, but his father moved faster than Adrien had ever seen him. He grabbed the bouquet, pulling it to his chest and turning his back to the pair. “Of- Of course- I was going to speak to my wife today. I- Thank you, Miss Raincomprix. I shall show them to her when I visit. I am sure… I am sure Emilie would have appreciated the gesture.”

Sabrina withdrew her hand and seemed to shrink, despite the thanks. Adrien stepped closer and slipped an arm around her waist. She leaned in just lightly and with that reassurance managed a reply, “You’re welcome, Mr. Agreste.”

Adrien added, “Happy Valentine’s day, Father. Say hi to Mom for me.”

Gabriel stepped back into his atelier without ever facing them again. After the doors shut behind him Sabrina sagged further against Adrien. "Did I do something bad?"

Adrien squeezed her, hard. "No Sabs, it's just-" Adrien knew his father must be feeling what he was right now, tenfold. His father didn't have anyone to help, because he didn't let anyone help. "We've never really grieved, properly, as a family. It's still fresh, every time."

"I'm sorry."

Adrien squeezed again. "Don't be. It was sweet, and I'm a little jealous I never thought of it." He slipped one hand up to brush the short hairs on Sabrina's neck under her bob. "Maybe this will be the time. Maybe this will be the talk where he finally says goodbye. We can hope."

Sabrina stayed snuggled in for a few more soft breaths, then slowly pulled away. She smoothed his lapels. "I wrinkled your dad's nice clothes."

Adrien helped sort Sabrina out in turn. "Oh we'll live. Besides, I don't know that the floor will be kind to them later anyway."

That brought color and a smile both to his pupper's face. Her fingers went from primping to petting, then circled around his waist to pull him closer. "We really should go eat quickly, then."

Adrien was about to agree when he remembered the box in his pocket. "Wait, one more thing."

He pulled out the box, but kept it hidden in his hand, inexplicably nervous. It wasn't that, after all. Though even that glancing mention had him wondering… what if it was that?

Adrien swallowed. He looked into a pair of eyes that shone with that gentle curiosity he had fallen so deeply in love with. His nervousness melted. By the time it was that, it would be just like everything else between them. It would be one more gentle step on a path together, not the giant leap others made it out to be.

Adrien opened his hand.

“It’s not- I just wanted to get you-” He opened the box, held it out, and hoped.

Sabrina peered in, confused at first, but comprehension dawned and with it joy bloomed. “Oh kitty, I love it!” She clapped her gloved hands, then reached tentatively for the box. She paused though and glanced up at him. “Would you put it on me?”

Yes. Adrien juggled the box in his haste. These things were always so complicated. He had to pull the base out, untie the twisties keeping it attached in back, and only then could he free the jewelry from the box. He held it up, the burnished rose gold shining copper in the light as it flexed and swung from his grasp.

Sabrina spun in place, tilting her head down and lifting her hair to bare her neck for him. Adrien reached past her to let more of the choker slip from his grip, a proper yellow gold tag slipped free. “Did you read the back?”

She grabbed at it, her motions all bursting energy and excited haste. She flipped the tag that read ‘Sabs’ over and scanned the back. Little tickled ‘Hees’ drifted up and she dropped her head down again, “Put it on, put it on, put it on!”

Adrien opened the clasp in the back and slipped the choker around her neck. Before clasping it back together he stopped and leaned down. He touched his lips to the very spot the clasp would lay. His reward was a shiver and whine, followed by an impatient shuffling of her feet.

Adrien closed the clasp in place, letting his fingers linger against her skin for an indulgent moment, then stepped back.

Sabrina spun back around with a single hop, completely at odds with her formal attire. One braid came free and she tucked it back while tilting her head towards the ceiling, tilting it this way and that. “How does it look?”

Adrien stepped in close, sliding his hand under the golden tag on the choker. His fingers brushed against Sabrina’s neck as he did, drawing another shiver. “I’d say it looks like it was made for you, but it was so that’s cheating.”

He flipped the tag over in his palm and read the inscription he’d dictated himself. ‘If found, return to Adrien Agreste.’

“So I’ll say, it looks like it was made for me.”

Her eyes came down from the ceiling to him and the smile that was there was one she rarely wore when others might see. It was a smile that made Adrien’s mouth go dry, then begin to water. It was one that made his fingertips twitch and his mind whisper ‘Maybe dinner isn’t that important after all…’

She reached up and grabbed him by his lapels, pulling him down so fast he lost his balance and nearly tumbled into her.

Sabrina whispered against his jawline. “No matter what happens tonight, the collar stays on.”

Her lips found his. There was a crash from the door to the dining room. Neither of them cared, neither of them stopped. She held him down in the kiss. He pulled her up into it. They remained locked until they parted, gasping.

“Eat fast…”

“Skip Dessert…”

“No! Lots of dessert!”

“Not at the table though…”

“Definitely not.”
