here’s the thing.
if you’re one of the people celebrating our flag means death’s cancellation for whatever reason right now, i need you to realize that this is just a sign that whatever you love is next.
and i’m not saying that out of spite. having your favourite show cancelled is awful, i wouldn’t wish it on anyone. but if our little-gay-pirate-show-that-could can’t get its third and final season, the future of queer media is extremely grim.
ofmd was the definition of a sleeper hit. hbo max had no faith in it when the first season came out. it gained popularity purely through word-of-mouth. but it became one of max’s biggest shows, and it’s since been marketed as their flagship series.
it was the #1 most in-demand series in the world for 8 weeks (7 of those weeks consecutively). it’s currently in the 99.7th percentile of the comedy genre, meaning it’s in higher demand than 99.7% of all comedy series in the u.s. it has a 94% audience and critics score on rotten tomatoes. it’s the most in-demand hbo original series even above euphoria, succession, and the last of us.
it was nominated for 16 awards for the first season alone, including a GLAAD award and a peabody award. the second season was just nominated for an art directors guild award, which it was previously nominated for and won in the same category for season one.
besides awards, ofmd is critically-acclaimed and praised for its representation (including a cast of majority queer, bipoc, and disabled characters) and themes of anti-colonialism, challenging gender norms/toxic masculinity, and self-discovery/acceptance. it also has a diverse team of directors and writers consisting of several bipoc, women, and queer/trans/non-binary people.
on top of all of this, the plan for the show all along was only ever for three seasons. david jenkins only wanted three seasons for the full romcom structure to tell ed and stede’s story. that’s it. nothing more.
this isn’t an attempt to make you care about the show. but ofmd’s cancellation isn’t just a loss for the fanbase and the cast/crew. it’s a sign that it does not matter how successful or profitable shows highlighting lgbtq+ (or otherwise inclusive) narratives are or how many big names are involved. ofmd would not have been cancelled if it were a straight romcom. they would’ve magically found the budget. but corporate greed doesn’t care about us. they have no respect for queer people or queer media. and in the age of streaming, it’s only a matter of time until we lose all of it.

The more I think about season 2, the more grateful I am.
In a lot of ways, OFMD's writers, cast, and crew were given an almost impossible task. S1 was brilliant and took everyone by surprise by how successful it became. I am still shocked every time I rewatch by how smart and efficient the writing is, how intelligent the social commentary. S1 is a masterclass in good television.
And for s2, expectations were incredibly high. OFMD found massive word-of-mouth success in a way I've never seen with any other show, and they suddenly had a big, incredibly passionate audience - the renewal was because of massive fan support, and that must have translated to an incredible amount of pressure in the writer's room. Plus, as if that wasn't enough on its own, they're having to deal with budget cuts and Max slashing them down to only 8 episodes to tell a 10-episode story. This is an incredibly daunting task.
And yeah, I've been critical. OFMD is my favorite show, no contest, and it's easy to be critical of the things we love. We can all see that the pacing was off this season, especially in those last two episodes. Some arcs felt rushed; some side characters didn't get enough screen time to set up what they're doing this season. Jim and Olu especially suffer for that. It's inexcusable that this show's budget was slashed the way it was and I'm sad for what we could have had.
But, on the whole? Holy shit, this season was incredibly successful! Despite an incredible amount of fan pressure, the writers told the story they wanted to tell. They never lost sight of Ed and Stede's story, and were smart about allocating screen time so our leads' arcs never suffered too much for it. There's so much creative problem solving - when they realized they'd need to be smart about which side characters to keep on screen, they turned Buttons into a bird in a way that underscored season themes of transformation and change. 10/10, no notes. They even remembered their audience and left us on a satisfying note for all our characters - we get to end with Ed and Stede, happy and together, starting their new life.
They had an impossible task and they did a fucking commendable job. Character beats and humor are balanced amazingly well. Ed and Stede feel so much more fleshed out this season. Just like in s1, OFMD will never be a show where you can catch everything with one watch - there's so many little jokes, hidden gags, small details to discover with every rewatch. And every single actor is giving it their all in every scene! You can tell how much this show was a labor of love for everyone involved.
I'm proper fucking impressed. Here's hoping they get a renewal and a better budget for season 3!

10 best byler proofs by me
10. The cast, especially David (who knows the ending) and Finn (who might know something), are always so happy talking about Byler. They wouldn’t be if Will ended up dying alone as a sad gay. Also no one likes milkvan except maybe Millie unless she’s acting… Caleb even said ”Lucas and Max’s love is real unlike Milkvan’s”.
9. Mike has been queercoded throughout the whole series. Especially with queer colors, he spent s4 dressed as a gay pride flag. Also bi and pan colors are associated with him. Also Ted’s ”our son with a girl?” and everything Eddie said about forced conformity etc
8. Byler parallelling other romantic ships like Jancy, Jopper and Lumax. I’m not listing examples because there are SO MANY! (Also Milkvan parallelling all the platonic/dead ships)
7. Mileven being bones. We have nothing that shows their actual, deep love they’re ”supposed to have”. We don’t know what Mike loves about El and what El loves about Mike. We don’t know what makes them a compatible match romantically. We only know things that don’t make them compatible: El feeling the need to lie to Mike, Mike feeling embarrassed of his nerdy self with El, El feeling unloved by Mike, Mike feeling inferior to El…
6. The desert scenes. The triple take ofc, but also the car roof top convo with Will (jancy parallell). Will is talking about how it’s scary to say how you really feel because what if they don’t like the truth. And Mike NODS. If the truth was that he loved El exactly like El wanted, El would like that truth. So what is the truth Mike is worried that El doesn’t like…?
5. Mike’s monologue. He had to be pushed by Will to open his mouth. He lied about him loving her at first sight. He copied the t-shirt part from Eddie. He kept saying she’s his superhero which El doesn’t wanna be. He didn’t include anything personal about El and their relationship after the t-shirt thing… Also El didn’t seem to like what she heard and their love didn’t save the world. And they didn’t even talk after it. And while filming it they didn’t focus on just the couple (like they did with byler in s2 shed scene) and they let Finn improvise as if it wasn’t that important (as important as the van scene…)
4. Mike would be so poorly written if he wasn’t into Will and I don’t think the Duffers would just ignore his character. Also all the lip glances and heart eyes wouldn’t make sense.
3. Byler/Milkvan contrast. When Will was gone and they found his ”body”, Mike heard Will breathing in a radio channel and believed he was alive. He didn’t rest for a second, he did everything he could to find him. When he thought El was dead, he didn’t go looking for her, even tho a couple times he actually saw her. Also in s3 when Milkvan had a fight, Max said Mike will be crawling back to her begging for forgiveness in no time. Instead Mike laid on a sofa and ate and complained. When Byler had a fight… well we all know what Mike did then.
2. Mike and Will’s relationship has always been different from other friendships. They’ve said it themselves (”pls don’t tell the others, they wouldn’t understand”, ”Hawkins is not the same without you”, ”you make her me feel better for being different”). Also their scenes together have always been a big deal (van scene took an entire day to film, crazy together was written before s1 was even filmed) and they are shot in a really romantic way (music, lighting…)
1. In the beginning of s3, Will said to Joyce that he’s not gonna fall in love. That made his arc about romance. We know now that he already fell in love, but he doesn’t believe it’s requited. If s5 goes from ”i don’t think he loves me back” to ”he doesn’t love me back” we get literally nowhere and the entire storyline (since s1) would be useless and waste of time and money. They wouldn’t make Will suffer 4 seasons and then suffer some more. So believe me when I say it goes ”I don’t think he loves me back” to ”He does love me back!”
I wish you all a very merry byler endgame in s5! 💚

I am curious for your perspective on the way the OF creators are interacting with fans and have even admitted to editing the show based on fan reactions. It strikes me as an unusual level of interaction and capitulation, though of course TV is a live medium that is nearly always responsive to reactions to some extent. My preference is for a lot less of this kind of thing, but I know you have experience with direct interaction with media creators and have found it enhances your experience sometimes. What do you make of how these dynamics are showing up in OF and the effect it’s having on the show?
TV and Critic Background
So, I am actually the worst person to talk to if you think the creators should be quiet about their work, because I really enjoy talking to directors, producers, actors, cinematographers, and especially editors about their work. I often go to film festivals just to talk to the creators about their processes.
I've also been in the TV space a really long time, and I am used to this kind of behavior. I don't think a lot of folks who are in BL are used to being in the process of TV itself, and I think a lot of people have let the Netflix binge model inform the way they view TV. TV is not like movies. When you get a movie, you are seeing the end product of filming, editing, test screenings, re-edits, etc. TV is usually only an episode or two ahead of the viewers.
It's extremely normal for a show to respond to feedback when characters test well. The 100 did this with Jasper. He was supposed to die in the pilot when that spear entered his chest, but he tested well with audiences so they revived him.
Fun Fact: This is why Kiseki: Dear to Me didn't just move their release schedule up when episode 8 was leaked early. They probably weren't finished assembling episode 9.
I followed Sense8 through its entire development process all the way from rumors and then J. Michael Stracynski's posts about it, to the things Lana and Lily said about it, to the commentary from the cast.
I have a special hatred for Rick Behrman over Star Trek.
I absolutely hate Russel T. Davies because of Cucumber.
I bailed on Supernatural because of the way the writers condescended to us at comicon after killing Kevin.
I know some fans are upset about the idea that scenes they wanted to see got cut, but I was there for Noah Galvin opening his fucking mouth to talk shit about other actors at ABC who were playing beloved gay characters and that subsequently getting The Real O'Neals canceled. The show had a very short second season and I feel forever salty about that.
What does this mean for Jojo and Ninew and Den?
I actually think Jojo, Den, and Ninew are fine. I don't think they usually poopoo on valid reads from what I've seen, and mostly they're having fun with the fans, too. I just don't think people are used to the creators being so honest about how feedback affects the editing process.
I think this is the first time we've had a big show in a while where the creator was fairly active on socials about the show. Aof and Au are usually pretty quiet when their shows are airing, and only give small tidbits while they show is airing. Jojo is silly and likes to play with fans. Den is feisty and has a gay agenda to pursue.
Truly, I don't think Jojo and friends are that bad about anything with this show, because they're mostly just laughing and stating things that are obvious to people who pay attention to how the sausage is made.
Shipping
That being said, the biggest struggle OF is having is shipping. The FK girlies are so loud and their heavy breathing has likely influenced the way Jojo and friends decided to write Ray. The FB girlies are so into them that it's made Jojo and them dial back some of their Top content because the audience hates him so much. Only Boston and Nick feel like they've made it through the shipping gamut intact because Neo and Mark aren't bringing a bunch of preexisting shippers to the table.
Coming off of episode 10, you can see this plainly with the nasty4nasty dynamic with Boston and Nick. The emotional core of their dynamic feels true, even down to the way their moments in the store mirror their first interactions again. Boston came in for service about his phone and intentionally showed Nick something on it.
I don't think Jojo has ever had to work with multiple acting pairs that were big branded pairs prior to this, and this is only his second time really dealing with that. With Never Let Me Go, Pond and Phuwin weren't that big yet, and he wasn't threatening their ship with anything complicated. OF is challenging for people who just watch BL as fap material and have to deal with their faves not being easy people to parse.
As usual, we go back to that post that goes around all the time, thought I think the OP deleted it:
"Never ever be normal about fictional characters but please GOD be normal about the people who play them, I am begging you" -tumblr user mantorokk-writes

GMMTV 2024 BINGO CARD YAAAY
Thank you for the brilliant bingocard . It is so so so great and I had so much fun @icouldhyperfixatehim I had a bit too much fun with the bingo and took the orange squares for my relatively fixed predictions, the purple ones for things I wish would happen but are unrealistic and the greenish ones for things I could imagine happening in some sort but not 100% like that even tho I WANT to. AND I KNOW it's partly not possible to read it. But HERE WE GO!!
Tumblr media
detailed explanations below (but it's way too long and way too much, nobody wants to read that).
Predictions
GemFourth in a BL with a highschool Plot
They revealed already that they will have another show. And I just can’t see that GMMTV would put them in University or somewhere else already.
WinnySatang Show with Inn Sarin as support in a highschool comedy-
I think they will test the waters with that. For Winny and Satang as Mains and for Inn as a new actor under GMMTV aswell.
2nd MilkLove GL, maybe sportthemed.
I think they will not gamble. They will give us more GLs finally but want them to be safe, so they will cast Milk and Love for another one. Which is TOTALLY fine for me but I think they will give them another one to play it safe yes.
A political Drama from P’Nuchy – Bonus for Gun and Papang in it
Okay I admit it I just want another political story. Leave me alone. Also Gun and Papang are always doing great in system critique shows and I am still not over Not Me and I will never be.
JoongDunk in a something darker Show, maybe Mafia or Fantasy, Bonus if Vampires
No words to be added. The Dum Dum Performance lives in my mind rent free and I think I am not the only one with this.
11 QLs in total with 8 Bls, and 3 GLs with 1 of them as an ensembleshow
In total maybe 22 shows. Half of it QL. I think this would be great. More QL always welcomed tho.
Luke and Win as the Tokenstraights characters in a HetRomance
Because sadly they won’t put Luke and (Win) in (another) Bl right?
Homeschool and Enigma Season 2
Since those shows were very very popular… I….think…at least?... I think there will be a second season.
Mix and Match
General mixing and matching of all couples.
I want everyone to kiss each other on the mouth. Be messy. Thanks.
EarthMix Show from P’Jojo, Bonus if Sexworker or/and Crime themed.
I want EarthMix to work with Jojo and I want them to change their dynamics. I think Sexwork would fit in typical Jojo Plots. And I think it would suit them. I would welcome a crime themed show with open arms too tho and I think Earth an Mix talked about that sometimes ago…
Ensemble Show with “old” couples/ “first generation" BL Actors but mixed and matched.
As in OffGun, TayNew, Krist, Ohm, First, I DUNNO SMTH LIKE THAT AND LET IT BE MESSY. I don’t know I am not a big Krist-girl but I think he has a comeback with all his concerts and stuff? Also I just want to see OffGun and TayNew in a show together.
Musicthemed ViewJune GL and Janhae and Aye as a Sidecouple
Listen… Ive DREAMED about Janhae and Aye as a couple. They would kill me and if the four of them had a britrock band together at university, that would just make me straight up cry of happiness. Let them be sweet together and irlekawö.
Strangers from Hell Thai Remake or something similar because I want it okay?
I don’t know, I have no reason for wanting that besides, that I think they would do great on that. I don’t know who would be fitting for which role tho. But it would be awesome right?
Mark/Neo as leads in a fluffy romance with Ford in a support role
I think Mark and Neo surprised all of us. And Ford and Mark as well. I want them in a fluffy romance to see how that would turn out for Mark and Neo but I want it to turn a little bit darker towards the end and let Ford have a bigger role on it.
Family Drama with a queer subplot where the mid 20s playing over 40s and other mid 20s actors playing under 20s even though they are all the same age.
We haven’t seen weird age-casting enough, I guess. But beside that I want to see family dynamics more. I was a sucker for Moonlight Chicken. Gimme something like that again.
NaniDew BL or at least them both together as Mains in a Show which is kind of queer baity.
Since they are selling Nani Dew Puppets at the GMMTV shop I am sus. They had weirdly mad chemistry at Homeschool if you ask me and I cant totally imagine them to try this out. But in the case that GMMTV don’t want to put them in a queer story I think they will at least queer bait us with them in a Midnight Museum kind of way.
FirstKhao in a BBS Styled Show with P’Aof
First and Khao wanted funny and lovely. They should get it. P’Aof could make them work in that. I can see that. So much.
Gem Fourth Plot is the political Nuchy Drama maybe.
I love it when they are playing kind of more serious scenes. And I think youngsters fighting the system, maybe throwing some molotowcocktails would fit them.
Femalelead Show from the PS I Hate you Team but in a PS I hate you way not in a the Jungle way
I loved Ps I hate you. I loved it so much. Sadly The Jungle didn’t do it for me so much. So maybe another try with the same girlies just with them as leads? Also make it sapphic pls.
Historical Drama with Phuwin or Pond or both in it
Not gonna lie they did GREAT in the Our Sky EP. If BL or not, Id love to see them in a historical setting.
Wishlist:
Midnight Museum 2 in actually queer with TayGun Canon
So I loved MM. I loved it so much and the ending was wilde. I need a second season and I want Katha and Dome be a thing and Tay and Gun make out, is this so hard to understand. A sapphic plotline would be nice to. Thank you.
EarthMix/JimmySea/FirstKhao in a mature Show.
Look. I’m a simple girl. I love Earth and Mix. So much. And that’s why they are on my card twice. I love First and Khao too. Which is also a reason for their double appearance. And I just want them to be matched with Jimmy and Sea because it would be awesome. And just  imagine them in a mature show, MAYBE even in a combination with the EarthMix Sexworker/Crime themed show I want them to be in. I want that. So much. And Jojo would make this so great.
Found Family, queer friends finding eachother, Golf Tanwarin directing
I love found family plots and after Eclipse I am so sure that P’Golf would create such a heartwarming and beautiful story on that topic. I trust her with that and it would be queer and lovely and maybe there would be some queer parenting plot but it wouldn’t be necessary but actually sweet and… aitekjrgf pls gimme this.
Papang in a main role in a polyship with Guy and Victor
No words. I want Papang in a main role. He SHOWED SO MANY TIMES that he would be great in one and why not putting him with those two together in a story about a polyromantic relationship that fights heteronormativity?

All of those winter prompts look amazing. But if you're feeling creative, can I ask for number 8 with Jill and Michael? Please 🥺
Thank you so much for the ask! (Also anyone reading this, feel free to send in more winter requests from THIS prompt list (or any other random prompts with Shaperaverse characters) if you would like. It might take a couple days but I'll get to it probably)
(Ao3 link) (I'm sorry I angsted the prompt, I couldn't help it :( )
8. Eating gallons of ice cream despite the cold weather.
He couldn't stop staring at her. He didn't think he'd ever be able to stop.
It felt like a dream, wandering down the streets of a narrative they had been in so many times before. Jill looked so much older, her brightly coloured hair starting to grey, the wrinkles on her forehead so much more pronounced than they ever had been before.
So much more pronounced than Michael ever thought they would get to be, when he'd lost her after the war.
Yet, after all this time, here she was, laughing by his side. He had expected awkwardness, to be blamed for her imprisonment, or for not freeing her sooner, or for the years apart to take their toll, driving a wedge between them. And…
And she hadn't. Jill clung to his arm for warmth, like she always did when the narrative had a chill and she refused to put on a jacket, claiming it would ruin whatever outfit she had made for herself that morning (Not that it had stopped her from insisting they get ice cream together — for old times sake, of course — and the frozen nature of the bag was certainly adding to the cold). Nothing had changed, apart from the tightness Michael held her with, as if the hellscape would somehow snatch her back if he let go for even a moment. It would be all his fault again.
“You alright, Michael?” Jill asked, seeing his expression. Michael nodded, at first, as he had always done when someone asked him that, before turning back to Jill, the many, many conversations they had once they got back home playing in his mind, and shaking his head.
“I'm glad you're back.” He said, for what must be the hundredth time since the rescue mission.
It didn't compare to the million times he had missed Jill in the last decades. Nothing would.
Jill gave a sad smile, pulling him onto a nearby bench, her hand pausing for just a moment over his metal arm, as it always did.
“You know,” Jill said, the tone of her voice clearly trying to lighten the mood, give Michael something else to focus on. To tell him stories, as he used to do to distract her when lonely thoughts got too much. “They didn't have ice cream in hell.”
Michael blinked, as Jill pressed into his side, bringing the bag onto her lap, and pulling out the ice cream. It was the wrong season for shops to sell cones, but, as Jill had delightedly claimed, that hasn't stopped them from buying multiple tubs and spoons, determined to have their feast.
“What?”
“It would just melt.” Jill shrugged, casting a hopeful glance to Michael. Her strategy seemed to be working, if the glint of a curious smile.on his face was anything to go by. “Now… Triple chocolate with chocolate chips? Cookie dough and strawberry jelly? Strawberry and raspberry whirl with whipped cream?”
“...What is it with you and over-elaborate flavours?” Michael asked, taking one of the tubs at random.
“Trust me, these are very tame compared to what some narratives have in store.” She said, handing Michael one of the spoons, before prying open her own tub, and stuffing a spoonful in her mouth.
A moment passed in silence, until Jill made a face.
“Oh, that's cold.”
“Brain-freeze?”
“Mhm.”
“Would you like my jacket?”
Jill smiled, closing her eyes in contentment. “Who needs a jacket when you're basically a hot water bottle?” She dug her spoon into Michael's tub, taking an equally big portion, as Michael wrapped an arm around her shoulders.
He really had missed this.

Survivor Season Rankings
Worth Playing For 1) 28: Cagayan Such an explosive cast! Consistent throughout with great pre-merge and post-merge. While the winner may have been overpowered with idols there was still some strategy/manipulation to be done to end up in Final Tribal, I respect the gameplay. Lots of memorable, historical players & moments, my personal favourite season
2) 37: David’s vs Goliath’s The best season to introduce someone to Survivor with! It has a great, diverse cast with many legendary players & moments. Almost every modern advantage pays out in a big way. The theme works fairly well, overall it’s very fun 3) 16: Micronesia Fans vs Favorites Some of, if not the biggest moments in Survivor history! Erik & the idol, the little “Ozzlets”, the f’ing stick!! A slower pre-merge with a bit of a lackluster Fans cast, but the Favorites more than make up for it post-merge.  4) 18: Tocantins One of my favourite original casts in one of my favourite locations! The Brazilian desert is beautiful and makes for a unique landscape. We see the origin of characters like Coach & Tyson, and also one of my favourite duos of all-time in Stephen & JT. Plus the birth of simmotion! 5) 15: China Another great season for the same reasons as above. Amazing casting with Courtney, James, Todd, Amanda, Peih-Gee, etc. and some breathtaking landscapes & temples. Great winner, the big moment with the double idol boot.... DAMN!! 6) 7: Pearl Islands The best original era season in my opinion. The theme is very strong throughout the season, very much paying off in the first episode with the unique  “marooning” and Rupert pretty much being a pirate. A great cast, some fun twists, and a moment that the Smithsonian used to encapsulate all of reality TV!
7) 20: Heroes vs Villains The ultimate battle of good vs evil, what more needs to be said? A massive returning cast with some of the fiercest competition, it gave us our first two time winner. I do find I prefer most players on their other seasons however, letting this one slip a bit lower in the rankings, but overall still a top tier season 8) 33: Millennials vs Gen X  Our first season on the current Fijian beaches, and it never feels fresher! A great cast with a good theme, containing strong emotional moments throughout. The “Did you do that!?” - “Yeah. I did it” moment may be my favourite vote out reaction of all time.
————
My Life Is Fine 9) 32: Kaoh Rong At the time of the live airing I remember this season leaving a dirty taste in my mouth with the sour bullies in Jason & Scott, as well as the “robbed goddess Aubry”, but in revisiting this season I found a lot more peaks than valleys. I came to gain a better appreciation for the winner as well, and it may have the most bonkers reunion special. Drew Carey, Mark the Chicken... Sia?! 10) 6: Amazon While the theme of men vs women may have played a bit hornier at the time, I still think it made for some interesting commentary and moments on the show. The location feels more intense, even when the tribe isn’t burning themselves to the ground haha. Also the birth of one of my favourite characters in Rob C! 11) 10: Palau Some may say the boot order on this season is very lackluster, but it does bring us the only time a single tribe is whittled down to one player. I also find there are entertaining moments throughout both the pre & post-merge. The theme works surprisingly well with sharks & army, it gives us a rootable winner, and a record breaking challenge! 12) 25: Philippines  While we do need to ignore the *redacted* of it all, we get another great mostly original cast with a very unique, historical, and rootable winner. We also get one of the best “love-to-hate/hate-to-love” villains in Abi-Maria, who thankfully cracked a coconut into *redacted*’s head! 13) 42 I haven’t been completely loving the new era of the 40′s’, but I find it certainly worked best thus far with 42. Some of the twists were slightly altered from 41 showing production had learned some of their faults, while also adding some new interesting twists. I think the cast really pops here, especially in our winner! 14) 40: Winners at War An all winners season, what’s not to love? I do find a different boot order could have made for a much more entertaining season, but what we were given was still some of the closest challenges and fiercest competition we’ve seen. I support the win of our second two-time winner, and will forever remember being touched by Ethan’s journey on Extinction 15) 13: Cook Islands Once again another theme that might not have played out so great in hindsight, but it did lead to our most diverse casting yet and I think it pays out on screen. The birth of legendary players like Parvati, Ozzy, Penner, Yul, etc. and an all-timer moment when Jeff asks “Candice, from Raro tribe?!?” 16) 27: Blood vs Water I do find the pre-merge a bit salty and a bit of a downer, but once the season starts picking up momentum it pays out. Some comedic moments with our “coconut bandits”, it also gave us the historic moment of someone voting out their mom! I very much enjoy the winner and their journey here 17) 29: Blood vs Water 2 This is another season that I think plays much better on a re-watch than live at the time. I always loved the winner and their journey, but some underperforming cast members does drag this down a bit. There are some really unique moments & dynamics playing out with the only all original cast BvW theme however, worth revisiting 18) 38: Edge of Extinction The theme may be awful, but I really support the original cast in play and how hard everyone was playing. I think the theme and how the season ultimately plays out drags this down a lot further for most people, but I’d love to see characters like Devons, Victoria, Lauren, even Reem return for another try 19) 31: Cambodia - Second Chances What should be the “ultimate Survivor super-fan season” ends up playing out a bit too unnecessarily complex for me, but still it cannot be denied how strong the returning cast is and how hard everyone is playing. An all-time tribal when an idol blocks a record 9 votes, plus a great winner, an overall good season 20) 12: Panama Perhaps the most uneven season in terms of tribes between the explosive Casaya and the tepid La Mina, it has some very iconic, comedic moments (mostly from Shane) and the birth of our queen Cirie! 21) 4: Marquesas A very underrated season. While the change in location last minute does show on screen production-wise at times (a kite challenge, really?) we get our first big power flip with the dismantling of the Roto Four, and our first “rocking out”, as well as the many firsts in our winner!
————
Ain’t No Hershey Bar 22) 17: Gabon Probably the biggest cluster-fuck of a season, it is messy in all the right ways. One of those “so bad it’s good” type of situations, I can’t help but grab the popcorn and take in all the salt & sass. It also has one of our best landscapes, I’ll never forget the moment Ace is doing a confessional and an elephant just walks into the background for a sip of water 23) 41 A very polarizing season, lots to love and to dislike. Production was trying out a lot of firsts here, and while they don’t all pay off I find what does makes for an overall enjoyable enough season. I think a re-edit could make for a more entertaining experience, especially in regards to our winner 24) 3: Africa I do find the earlier seasons can be a bit drier or slower compared to more modern eras, but Africa certainly brought us our most dangerous season. Between the lions, the lack of water & food, and the intense sun, this may be the best season for people actually wanting surviving in their Survivor 25) 19: Samoa This season is very heavily edited towards a certain character, so mileage varies depending on your opinion of him, but the way Russell outmaneuvers not only the cast but production is masterclass. I don’t support all of the gameplay, but it does make for entertaining TV 26) 9: Vanuatu Another season that plays better in a re-watch than at the time. I think the men vs women theme works better this time around, and the ultimate winner’s path does allow for a lot of good conversation & commentary 27) 1: Borneo The one that started it all. Production doesn’t quite have everything figured out yet, which can make for a bit of a clunky watch, but what we get here is the template & groundwork for every season to come. Thankfully we had a winner with the foresight to see the real potential of this game that is Survivor 28) 43 A very great cast that I think is unfortunately brought down by the current metagame, as well as a confusing edit and a not so favourable winner. I do think Jesse’s big borrowed idol move will go down as an all-timer, but that alone is not enough to catapult this season any higher
29) 2: Australian Outback Some big memorable moments as well as a good balance between gameplay & survival elements, it’s a shame the older editing & pacing make for a bit of a calmer watch at times. Survivor was never more popular than at this moment however and it really shows in the reunion! 30) 26: Caramoan There’s not a lot of great stuff in this season, between the negative moments with Brandon & Phillip and Brenda & Dawn you would hope for some great strategic gameplay, but there’s not really that either. Yet somehow I end up being drawn back to this season, I guess it hurts so good! 31) 14: Fiji An awful theme. Wow, I wonder who will dominate, the Haves or the Have Nots?! You can also feel the recruitment in regards to casting. But we still have one of our more diverse casts with some bigger, historical moments that I think play better through a modern day perspective 32) 30: Worlds Apart Similar to Caramoan, I find there are a lot of downer moments that drag this season down (Will being awful to Shirin, Dan overall, Joe in hindsight), but yet I am drawn back to it. If you enjoy awkward moments then Vince is comedic gold, and Rodney definitely plays much funnier a second time around 33) 36: Ghost Island This theme should have been great, but it really doesn’t pay off. The cast I also found was a bit dull, but the dynamic of Wendell & Dom really gives this some mileage 34) 23: South Pacific An instance of a good but unfortunately under-edited winner in a not so great season. The overtones of religion & Catholicism hamper the gameplay, and the casting isn’t at it’s strongest. Nothing awful here, but nothing fantastic either 35) 11: Guatemala Our first captains season that unfortunately doesn’t seem to “pop”. Another case of an under-edited winner, there isn’t much great gameplay to speak of. The Mayan temples are however beautiful, and we do get the birth of the Immunity Idol 36) 34: Game Changers Was this Game Changers, or Game Players? Because this cast certainly didn’t feel legendary in the way the theme suggests. The boot order also left a lot to be desired, and we get the messy situation with Varner... if not for a few comedic moments this could have easily slipped down a tier
————
Forget You, Go Home, Goodbye 37) 35: Heroes vs Healers vs Hustlers The birth of the fire making twist, which for me did not play out well. Some may enjoy the winners journey here, I ultimately found it disappointing and frustrating. Some lackluster challenges as well as a confusing theme made for an overall letdown of a season 38) 8: All Stars At the time I got swept up in the love story of Rob & Amber, but in re-watching the season there is a lot of saltiness, as well as some ugly situations (Jenna’s departure commentary, Rich & Sue). In wanting to get swept up in gameplay I found very little to be excited about 39) 39: Island of the Idols Obviously we know why this is a bottom tier season, but that aside I do think there was some great characters & moments that save this from being the worst season. The theme was bad to begin with so it was never destined for greatness lol 40) 24: One World I love the theme of putting everyone on one beach, unfortunately the recruitment casting along with the split of men vs women made this season a drag. I love the winner and their gameplay, but there are a lot of forgettable castaways here, not to mention one of the most polarizing player in Colton  41) 21: Nicaragua  Not much to love here, a pretty poor cast with some sloppy gameplay and a mild winner. If the most memorable part about the season is two people quitting, you know there’s a problem 42) 22: Redemption Island I guess mileage really varies depending on your love for Boston Rob, but I feel like this season was served to him on a silver platter. I guess it answers the question is it fun to see a big-leaguer play in the minors with the rookies? The answer is no, no it is not 43) 5: Thailand Here it is, the worst season of Survivor. The ugliness and mishandling of the Ghandia & Ted situation, the emotionless cold winner, the pitiful gameplay, it’s all here! I will however never forget that Robb strangled Clay during a challenge and that he brought a skateboard to the jungle!

I Don’t Think Stranger Things Queerbaited Me.
With that being said. This is why I didn’t like certain decisions that were made in the writing room, and during production that I find both tone deaf and disappointing. Organized by character.
Robin. I think the decisions they made for Robin this season were okay. I like Vickie. I don’t think the only queer joy we should have gotten from Robin’s perspective should have been through the lens of Vickie complaining about her BOYFRIEND. And I don’t think that scene should have been nearly the only scene of queer joy fans got to see. - I think that’s a 6/10 on the tone deaf scale.
Eddie. Eddie is not queer. I think that’s a mistake but also that’s just my opinion. The real problem here is that Eddie IS an OUTSIDER. And his entire story ends with being punished for that. People hunt Eddie for nearly the entire season. Vecna’s murders to open the gates are called the Munson Murders. The message of his entire character is: Don’t be different. Don’t be an outsider. You will die hated and be remembered not for your heart but for every voice that was louder than the truth. It was cheap. And it wasn’t as impactful as they wanted it to be. An 8/10 on the tone deaf scale.
Will. This one pisses me off. Will’s big gay crush on Mike is fine. It should have been revealed in Season 3, and he should be getting over it now. And he should have been given the opportunity to find queer joy. Also, making Will the queer kid out of the original cast makes sense, yes. But, it retroactively makes the entire first season and subsequent other seasons’ constant Will pain with very little Will happiness taste extremely sour in my mouth. Especially since the first season is now about a queer child being terrorized by monsters in what could be representative of a closet, and most of the town doesn’t miss him, or even continues to bully him in his absence. His “confession” to mike in season 4 is used as a tool to bolster and further the main heterosexual relationship between his CRUSH and SISTER figures. It inspires Mike to tell El that he loves her in the big old grand gesture style. His feelings are not used to develop his character but a relationship he is not in. And that is very uncomfortable for me as a queer person to watch. I know it wasn’t written in any mean spirited way, or with any type of malice, but it did not feel good. 10/10 on the tone deaf scale.
Did I have a good time watching? Yes.
Was I uncomfortable at every one of these instances and feel invalidated and icky? Also Yes.
It can be and IS both of those things.

SERAM ISLAND BLACKBASS FISHING TRIP
Seram island located in Moluccas east-Indonesia. One of heaven for blackbass fishing. Seram  is the largest and main island of Maluku province of Indonesia, despite Ambon Island‘s historical importance. It is located just north of the smaller Ambon Island and a few other adjacent islands.
There are few target species that we cater for:
Papuan Blackbass
Spottail Blackbass
Barramundi
Giant Trevally
Tuna
BLACKBASS FISHING
The Rivers
Located at Seram island , one of most remote villages in Moluccas. The river is pristine and untouched, it holds a lot of potential. Known amongst locals and a few off-the-grid-anglers for its high numbers of fish and size, it is also known for its beauty. A river truly made for lure casters and fly anglers alike.
We have 7 different Rivers in our control and nobody can fish in that area except our carter. Every river has big chance to fish 2 species once time, papuan black bass and spot tail bass..
Barramundi Fishing
Our river not far from sea, so we can fish barramundi in the mouth of river and black bass also.
Giant Trevally fishing
Seram island located in remote island in Moluccas east Indonesia, we have healthy coral reef, shallow bay and deeper reef around island. The most exciting techique to catch Giant Trevally is popping and spinning other top water lures close to the shore.Casting large poppers and stick-baits in shallow areas, close to reefs, the best way to entice a GT to strike is the pop and pause technique. We can also do jigging for gruper and dog tooth tunna.
Tuna fishing.
On september – october Tuna seasons in our area, we can fish Tuna by trolling, live bait, casting also jigging. Located 1 .5 hours from our lodge. Average tuna in our location from 20lb-100lbs. Big tunna more than 150lbs still possible to catch.
Accommodation :
Our Lodge is located in the village of Wehai, Seram island, Moluccas.. The lodge is simple and has a classic fishing cabin atmosphere to it.
Although simple, it is equipped with all the basic conveniences one
would expect from a comfortable all-inclusive setup. From 2018,
we have been operating this lodge where we offer what we believe is one of the best fishing-experiences in Moluccas.
We have 1 big  lodgge  in Seram. It can accommodate up to 6 anglers at once. Sleeping quarters are based on a simple bunk bed system with a total of 3 rooms with two people sharing each room. The distance from lodge to river only 30 minute using long boat.
FISHING
Our fishing seasons start from September – March. Usually during the dry seasons. There is a total of 7  individual rivers to fish from and the  water level goes down during the dry season making the fish congregate in the centre of the lagoon. Fish in the size of 3-5 kg are common and fish up to 10 kg are hooked on a regular basis. Monster Papuan bass of more than 15kg are also possible here however landing this fish though is another story.
Tackle And Techniques
Casting
Rod : We recommend using anything from Heavy-H to Extra Extra Heavy-XXH rods because you will need the rod to help you pull fish out of tight structures.
Line : Braided line rated to at least 60lb’s, and Shock Leaders rated to a minimum of 80lbs. Anything more is definitely welcomed.
WEDA FISHING TRIP
Weda is a district in North Maluku, Indonesia, located on the east coast of Halmahera, the largest of the Maluku Islands. The district includes 24 small offshore islands. Its administrative centre is the village of Were, which is also the capital of the Central Halmahera Regency.

(The cast of Our Miss Brooks, left, Eve Arden, right.)
Day 79- TV and Radio:
TV:
I Love Lucy, season 2, episode 8, “Redecorating,” November 24th, 1952.
Our Miss Brooks, season 1, episode 9, “The Big Game,” November 28th, 1952.
The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet, season 1, episode 9, “The Day After Thanksgiving," November 28th, 1952.
Radio:
Father Knows Best, “The Phantom Prowler,” November 20th, 1952.
The Aldrich Family, “Thanksgiving Turkey,” November 23rd, 1952.
Fibber McGee and Molly, “Polishing Doc’s Car Blindfolded,” November 25th, 1952.
Suspense, “Man Alive,” November 24th, 1952.
Unfortunately, only one episode from 1952 of the TV show Our Miss Brooks is available online. I watched it today, and I may actually buy the DVD of the first season now. I love Eve Arden so much; I wrote a whole college paper on the character type she played in movies in the 1930s and 40s- the wise-cracking best friend who can never find a man. That also describes Miss Brooks to a tee! The show isn’t the most amazing thing ever, but it is fun.
On Father Knows Best, it’s clear now that the whole cast changed except for Jim and Bud. I never liked the original youngest daughter Kathy, but I adored both the mother and Betty from before- they were both good actresses and very funny. Betty especially made me laugh. Why the hell did they change them? I’m still pouting about it.
I think I’ll only watch one more episode of The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet. I really dislike Ozzie- some of it is because he reminds me of a person I loathe in my real life, so that’s not his fault! I just hate the way he plays dumb all the time- I don’t find it funny. I also don't have any patience for the ridiculous “problems” the family faces. Like not wanting to eat turkey after Thanksgiving! I just get bored and don’t care. Father Knows Best deals with smaller problems as well, but it is almost always interesting, witty, and funny. There is sadly no wit with the Nelsons.
...And now a word from today’s best sponsor: Listerine Mouthwash and Toothpaste! Because there is only one thing more terrible than a communist in the 1950s- halitosis! If you suffer from this life-ruining condition, Listerine is here to help! Now you’ll have friends again! All your fears about spinsterhood will disappear! With a sweet-smelling mouth, you’ll have that wedding dress in no time!  (Just remember to also use deodorant and douche every day!)

💌 thanks for sharing the love! #GothamKnights 🦇💋
SLAYYYYY i love quesitons about htingsss this is how i look rn answeirng these btw 👇🏽
Tumblr media
in addition to harvey/two face (because he really was showstopper sawwy to the knights), but i reallyyyyy adore duela. not only was she hilarious, her character arc/development throughout the show was great. always enjoyed whenever she was on screen i was like omfgggg my bestie !!
where do i even begin......the one that sticks out in my little brain of mine is when harvey overdoses on his anxiety meds and meets face to face with harv/fugue!harvey. that was absolutely incredible and i replay that scene in my head like a rotisserie chicken bc those writers put their whole pussy into it
at first i was going to say duela and carrie because their dynamic was soooo much fun but after 1x13, harvey and duela pulled my heartstrings like damnnnnnn i did ackshully tear up at that monologue naurrr don't let my mutuals know that. honorable mention are the row siblings because WAHHHHHHH 🥺😭 they mean so much to me
i mentioned duela's development in my first answer and i am not very eloquent with words if we're being honest but the way that she gained a sense of purpose and wanting to actually help gotham through all the trials and tribulations that were thrown at her...really wish we got to see more of that
it's a toss up between "big dent energy" and "guess who rode of the bat wang" .....honestly anything that comes out of duela's mouth is funny as hell who let her be that way
hmmmmmmmmmmm my fave was def harvey being duela's dad. did i call it from a mile away? yes, but it was absolutely satisfying to be right. i actually cheered out loud and punched the air MWAHHH
gosh, when we finally got to see his whole entire face, that shit was absolutely terrifying in a good way. interesting way of how rebecca was the one to toss that acid on his face. sadly, as much as it was all scrumdillyumptious, two face had like a total of three minutes of screentime and we will more than likely never see him again....does anyone have james gunn's number i need to ask him for a favor,
im not following any of the cast and crew of gk pero i have seen some of their tweets and the level of dedication these people put into the show....anyways, everything was so well thought out,,,i nominate the bat cave that shit was really cool. loved the water concept since it wasn't done before in the dc universe
LOL ermmmm, *scratches neck* is this thing on.....NOT to be mean or anything but i wish there was more action. as much as i luv the pauses for breath, i also luvvv ffight sequences. also a part of me thinks the show dragged a little. i know it was only 13 episodes but 18 would've been better. and though i loved the funny bits, sometimes i wish the show took itself seriously. they tried to target to gen z but mannn, at times i had to kinda duck my head bc it was embarrassing and i'm not even gen z. idkk i cant be too harsh on the show bc they did what they could and i enjoyed it overall!!
where is the s2 blueprint ik they're sitting somewhere in the producers' houses....but yeah, i actually liked how gotham knights ended! it works well ffor a mini series. the ambiguity of it all is ripe with possibilities for the fans to gnaw on. turner being trained to become the next batman, the gotham knights putting their boots back on to save the city thinking turner is gone for good, harvey allowing harv to take over with the potential of becoming a major problem....tag me in any stories you write, you guys 👍🏽❤

Ariados for Pokemon Unite!
Tumblr media
Season 1
Prev: Torterra - Scrafty - Starmie - Luvdisc - Boltund - Tinkaton - Rampardos - Bronzong - Delibird - Polteageist - Falinks - Hariyama - Clawitzer - Salazzle
Spider Pokemon are some of the coolest designs in the game, all 4 of them. From the fuzzy Galvantula to the adorable Araquanid, even Spidops has some admirable features to it. But they all owe their existence to the original spider from Johto, Ariados.
Now, the crazy thing is that these buggers aren't truly spiders, as they lack the eight legs to set them apart from the lowly six legged grubs they feast on. Perhaps that's why they're classified as Bug types instead of Spider Types.
No big deal. In Ariados' case, it can still bob and weave just like any spider, so let's see if it can string up victory in Pokemon Unite.
-
Tumblr media
Now these are some really pathetic looking stats. With only 90 Base Attack to be proud of, Ariados really has very little going for it. Pitiful HP and defenses along with a very low Speed stat totally destroys its defensive ambitions, and having low attacking stats all around limit its damage potential. The low speed is a real deal breaker as well, as it cannot use that speed to pull off many tricks. In fact, fellow bug type Parasect (whom I've made a moveset for, which you'll find linked in Season 1) is actually slightly stronger than Ariados by 5 more BST. How pathetic.
Are we sure Ariados is cut out for Pokemon Unite? Well, if we can make Luvdisc and Delibird work, we can achieve the same thing with this itsy bitsy spider. And since those two ended up working out well as Supporters, I'd say Ariados should take up knitting and stitch something together for itself and its teammates. For that, Ariados is designated for the role of a...
Supporter
Basic Attack - Ranged/Attack
The pokemon launches wads of silk as a projectile, each hit slowing the target down. When an enemy has been hit with enough basic attacks, they will become Immobilized briefly. Becomes a boosted attack after two hits, which increases the rate at which the target slows down or becomes unable to move.
Each hit applies a 10% movement speed reduction effect for 0.5 seconds. That's enough time for the debuff to wear off before the next basic attack hits.
Each hit applies a mark on the enemy in the shape of a spider web. One hit fills in the mark by 1/8, whereas a boosted basic attack fills in the mark by 1/4. The mark does not go away until the mark is filled in completely, or either the user or the target is KO'd.
When the mark is filled in, a small spider web is generated on the floor of the target pokemon. This spider web is linked to the Swarm Ability and disappears after 3 seconds off-screen.
When the mark is filled in, the enemy becomes Immobilized and cannot move or use a Dash Attack, but can still attack with other moves and basic attacks. The Immobilized status lingers for 2 seconds.
Here's a fun fact. The Immobilized Hindrance is an extremely rare status effect that only Pikachu can use through ElectroWeb, which is forgotten at Level 6. It is unique in that it prevents enemies from moving and using dash attacks, but otherwise doesn't stop them from attacking.
It's no coincidence that Ariados can inflict the same hindrance through its basic attack, which casts a web shot from its mouth. But it's not as easy as one, two, three, as Ariados needs to hit an enemy at least 6 times to immobilize an enemy. That can take forever, especially in the heat of battle, and immobilizing the target won't stop them from slaying your teammates, so it's better to come up with an alternate plan of attack.
While it's not a great defensive tool, it does have some powerful offensive applications as the web mark does not go away unless you or the target gets KO'd. Hitting a target once ensures that there will be compounded consequences the next time they show up, as the mark becomes easier to fill in the second time. Immobilizing an enemy means that they cannot retreat easily or make a mad dash to your Goal Zone, especially since Immobilization locks out Dash moves, like Clefable's Gravity. It's a matter of timing and patience and luring the enemy into a trap, which is exactly how a spider works in capturing prey with their webs.
Speaking of which, a small spider web is made at the floor of the attack when the mark fills in and Immobilizes the enemy. This ties in to Ariados' ability, Swarm.
Ability: Swarm
This pokemon and all teammates gain an increasing attack boost the more allies there are on the webs created by your moves.
Each teammate gains 1.5x more Attack and Sp. Atk for each ally standing on your webs, maxing out to 3.5x.
Ariados will show up on the Assist KO screen if Swarm boosted the damage of the attack that KO'd an enemy.
All webs generated by your basic attack and moves linger permanently until you move off-screen and for 3 seconds.
As you fight, you'll notice that some of your attacks leave behind a curious little spot of webbing on the ground. This is silk made from your attacks and it creates a network of sensation that powers up the attacking stats of you and your teammates.
Including you, Swarm boosts the attack power of all allies by 1.5x, meaning you as a Supporter have a built in attack boost at nearly all times. That's great, but your attacking stat is still kind of pathetic and your damage output hinges on you staying put in the affected areas.
Rather, Swarm is meant to improve the odds of your team in a hectic mosh pit fight. Throwing around enough web shots creates a large field of spider webs, and each teammate gains an attack boost by standing on your silk roads. Spiders are so much more terrifying when they're all lumped up together, joined in unison by a huge mess of webs.
The silk doesn't go away either. It stays put until you leave the screen for 3 seconds, in which case it'll dissolve. Obviously this is for balance purposes as you can't just put down a massive web and then leave your teammates to take care of things for you. You're a Supporter, so you have to be just as involved in the fight as your allies.
The webs don't have to be connected, which is good news for melee and ranged attackers alike. Melee attackers benefit greatly when you Immobilize an enemy with your basic attack, as not only does it stop them from retreating, but the small spider web generated also gives a Swarm boost to their physical attacks, powering them up enough to finish off the captured prey. Meanwhile ranged attackers enjoy having their long distance attacks boosted while standing on your webs made within the safety of your Goal Zones or in the back row.
Cast a wide enough net and you'll catch something and find your place in the world, as they say.
Tumblr media
At the start of the game, Ariados will start out as Spinarak. You can choose between Absorb and String Shot as your first move. By Level 2, you will have learned both.
Move 1: Absorb
Grab an enemy and drain their life energy. After dealing damage, the enemy creates a small trail of silk from the point of damage for a short while. 7.5s cooldown.
Restore HP equal to the damage dealt.
A trail of silk is created that tracks between the target and the location of the attack. After 1 second, the silk sticks to the ground and becomes a web that is affected by the Swarm Ability.
The silk is a straight line and is visible to both teams. Silk created by you is marked with a red glow while silk generated by an opposing Spinarak/Ariados is marked with a blue glow.
The silk stays on the ground as long as you're on screen. A second trail of silk can also be generated when the move comes off of cooldown and is used in the same area. However, overlapping webs do not increase the Swarm Ability any further.
There isn't really a limit to duplicating webs as Spinarak and Ariados are frail and aren't expected to linger on any area for long. However, if the game loads too many webs, the oldest webs made will be deleted when new ones are made.
Any draining attack is a good move, but on a frail Supporter like Spinarak, it seems like a bit of a waste. However, the early power level of the game is just weak enough that Spinarak can use it to escape a KO every now and then, since the attack restores HP equal to the amount of damage dealt.
The secondary effect is where Spinarak shines though, as it creates another trail of silk that powers up itself and allies through its Swarm ability. If Absorb deals more damage than the enemy is expecting, they'll likely run away, creating a silk link between them and the area they were attacked. This opens up your teammates ability to deal damage depending on where they go, as the silk tracks them. After a while, the silk settles onto the ground, designating where the Swarm boost will be for the duration of the fight. It's up to you and your teammates whether to use this web to keep up the offensive pressure or fortify your defenses using the attack boost.
As stated before, the silk doesn't go away unless you leave the area for too long, making it possible to create a second line of web if you land another hit. Increasing the area of ground you cover with your web increases the available area you and your teammates can be boosted with.
Keep in mind though that this is only the early game. Chances are it's just you and an ally trying to level up before the big fight for the middle lane. However, this web effect does work on Wild Pokemon, which tend to operate in a predictable pattern. Using Absorb on them can spread the web much more easily and cooperatively than your enemies, so use them to your advantage.
Or you can just use your other move instead. Much easier.
Move 2: String Shot
Casts a long thread of silk in a straight line in the designated direction. Enemies hit by the attack will be stunned briefly and have reduced movement speed for 3 seconds. 9.5s cooldown.
The silk strand is very long and wide. A trail of silk becomes affixed to the floor where the attack is used and activates Swarm.
Movement Speed is reduced by 20%. Enemies are stunned for 0.75 seconds.
Of course the spider pokemon is going to have a move that shoots binding silk, what else would it have been? At least it's better suited to it than other Bug type pokemon that could work in Unite.
String Shot has great offensive and defensive application in that it'll set down a large web in a given area while also slowing down enemies that get caught in the attack. Because all of Ariados's webs are permanent, it doesn't have a passive movement speed reducing effect while active. For balance purposes, it'll only slow down enemies hit by the move as it comes out.
When an enemy gets hit by String Shot, they know that they're in big trouble. Not only have they been slowed down, you just made a large enough web for you and your teammate to get a pretty sizable Swarm boost. While your ally rushes in to attack, you can hang back and spit wads of webs at the enemy, building up enough web power to Immobilize the target on the spot.
It's also great for setting up ambushes, provided you have enough time to set it up. The long cooldown of the move does you no favors, and the opposing team will know that you're still in the area as the webs haven't dissolved yet when they show up. Still, if you've got a very aggressive teammate willing to walk on your tightropes, you should be more than fine.
In fact, working well with a teammate is bound to get you enough EXP to evolve early on.
Tumblr media
At Level 4, Spinarak will evolve into Ariados. At Level 5, Absorb becomes either Spider Web or Leech Life.
Move 1a: Spider Web
Casts a large net of silk at the designated area, stunning enemies briefly and reducing their movement speed. Enemies standing on the web are more susceptible to your basic attack, increasing the likelihood of becoming Immobilized. 10.5s cooldown.
At Level 10, Spider Web becomes Spider Web+.
Increases the area of effect.
When used, all enemies in range are stunned for 0.75 seconds and have their movement speed reduced by 35% for 3.5 seconds.
Spider Web will linger for as long as you are in the area. However, the web will disappear if you use Spider Web again.
Your basic attack adds double marks against enemies standing on the web.
I never like having to go over moves that were lost in the transition between generations, especially as they were the signature moves of the pokemon I'm making the post for. I mean, I get it, Spider Web was absolutely useless on Ariados, but I blame the designers for not having any vision in designing the pokemon and its movepool. Alright then, I'll do it myself!
In an absolutely large area, Ariados will throw a big web of sticky silk in the designated area. This sticky silk will stun and slow down enemies hit by the attack as it comes out, greatly reducing their mobility. That's a bonus for Ariados, as hitting enemies stuck on Spider Web doubles the marks added with your basic attack, effectively Immobilizing enemies in just 3 hits. That's great for you, awful for the enemy, as now they are stuck in place while your teammates rush in at them as if they were a plate of freshly baked cookies.
And keep in mind, the absolutely massive area the web is covering increases the surface area of Swarm, guaranteeing that all allies in the fight are getting an attack boost. The large web also makes it hard for you to stray so far that the web dissolves without you nearby, allowing you to safely keep your distance while your allies go to town on the opposition. Although, since your basic attacks are extra effective against the enemy and you can immobilize them with every other boosted basic attack, why be shy?
Spider Web is strongest when you hit multiple enemies in one go, but the move is not easy to spam. It has a long cooldown and, unlike your other web producing moves, Spider Web deletes itself when you use the move again, limiting your total coverage. Spider Web+ vastly increases the area you can cover with the move, which makes it easier to hinder multiple enemies and boost multiple allies. What this does, however, is paint a massive target on your back, as you getting KO'd not only removes the webs, but instantly stops Swarm from boosting your allies. Maybe it is better to keep your distance...
On the contrary, maybe you'd rather get closer to the enemy with the alternative move.
Move 1b: Leech Life
Dash in and grab an enemy to drain their energy. The enemy is Stunned after dealing damage and your movement speed increases briefly. This move deals increased damage to enemies with reduced movement speed or that are Immobilized from your attack effects. After dealing damage, two lines of silk are drawn from the attack point, one tracking the enemy, the other tracking you. After 3 seconds, the silk line settles onto the ground. 4s cooldown.
At Level 10, Leech Life becomes Leech Life+.
Deals more damage and becomes piercing damage.
Grabbing an enemy binds them in place for 1 second, preventing them from moving, attacking, or using items. Restores HP equal to the damage dealt. Will fail if the target has hindrance protection.
A silk thread is drawn from the location of the attack to the location of the enemy. A second silk thread is drawn tracking you to the attack point as well. After 3 seconds, the thread is drawn and becomes webbing that is affixed to the floor.
The silk becomes webbing if the target is KO'd before 3 seconds have passed.
Enemies are stunned for 1.25 seconds after dealing damage whereas your movement speed is increased by 50% for 2 seconds.
Leech Life deals 1.75x more damage to enemies that have a movement speed reduction debuff or are Bound from the effects of your moves and basic attacks.
Leech Life+ increases the base damage of Leech Life to 2x.
Keep in mind that Ariados has some punch to its Attack stat, so it can deliver a painful bite to enemies if it so chooses. The problem is that, given its lack of defenses, it's not likely to get away with the damage scot free, much less avoid getting KO'd. That's why, on top of Leech Life's ridiculously low cooldown, it also grants Ariados a momentary speed boost and stuns the enemy in place after doing the deed.
If that wasn't annoying enough, Leech Life, much like Absorb, plants two threads of silk instead of one, which becomes webbing shortly afterwards. This webbing activates Swarm when it settles down onto the field, and with two strands of silk, you double the surface area available to you and your teammates. Now, it's not as big as Spider Web, but you'll have used the move twice over before Spider Web comes off of cooldown. It also has the advantage of making you more agile, stunning enemies long enough to make your escape, and baiting them into approaching you, leading them into an ambush.
The extra damage is the main draw of Leech Life over Spider Web, as it gets a damage boost when the enemy has a movement speed reduction or is Immobilized from your basic attack. Against Attackers and Speedsters, you actually have pretty good odds of scoring a KO against them if you manage to catch them off guard. At that point, what's the point of drawing two lines of silk?
It's for opposing Supporters. Most of them lack the damage output to reliably KO other Supporters, or even frail Attackers. In this case, you can sneak up on an opposing Blissey or Eldegoss, bite them, and then apply offensive pressure. The point isn't to KO them, though. It's to scare off the Supporters and lead you and your allies to their teammates, wherever they're hiding. The two silk threads greatly increase the area in which you can boost your allies with Swarm. While Spider Web is bigger, Leech Life grants the same boost when the webbing settles down.
It's harder to use in a team fight, but has much greater reward if you can secure a few bites. Getting away with just one Leech Life can greatly spread the silk strand across the battlefield and increase the effectiveness of your team's offensive presence. The silk woven on the target is likely to stretch outward as they retreat or move in to KO you. The silk that tracks you is your retreating line that continues to power you up with Swarm as you move away, granting you and your team a valid path to escape without sacrificing Swarm's power boost. Either way, two silk lines doubles the surface area you cover compared to Absorb, and the very low cooldown makes it easy to use the move repeatedly, restoring your HP each time.
However, at this point, you only have String Shot to work with. Not to worry, though, because as a Supporter, you get your full moveset early on as a necessity.
At Level 7, String Shot becomes either Sticky Web or Toxic Thread.
Move 2a: Sticky Web
Launches a condensed ball of silk at the designated area. When an enemy steps on the silk ball, the trap explodes and stuns all enemies nearby briefly and Immobilizes them for 2.5 seconds. Up to 3 uses can be held in reserve. 6s cooldown.
At Level 12, Sticky Web becomes Sticky Web+.
Adds an extra use to the move. The web explosion increases in size and area of effect.
Enemies hit by Sticky Web become Immobilized for 2.5 seconds, during which they cannot move or use Dash Attacks, but can still otherwise attack. Enemies are also Stunned for 0.75 seconds.
When triggered, the web expands to designate the area of effect of enemies that are in range to be Stunned and Immobilized. This web lingers and activates Swarm. Sticky Web+ increases the size of the web.
Sticky Web generates a web at the location of the trap when it's triggered that activates Swarm.
A total of 10 Sticky Webs can be set at any time. Any more than that, the oldest traps will be deleted to make space for new ones. The created webs linger independently of this limit.
Before learning Sticky Web, Ariados behaves more like a predator, chasing down its enemies and pelting them with silk in order to slow them down. Even its other moves, Spider Web and Leech Life, make it more proactive in the hunt, helping it weaken or KO its targets. However, if there's one thing spiders are known for, it's setting down sticky traps to capture prey, and Ariados is no different.
Sticky Web is a noticeable bundle of silk that is easy for the enemy to avoid. However, that is to lull the enemy into a false sense of security as the Sticky Webs don't really have a time limit for how long they can be set for. When they're set down, they're set to stay and they can't be gotten rid of, even if Ariados gets KO'd. Sure, the trap will still trigger, but the web made afterwards disappears soon after.
The point isn't to catch the enemy off-guard, though. It's to fence off areas of your choosing, as triggering the Sticky Web trap not only stuns the enemy, but will also Immobilize them for a while. That's not the worst of it. When the trap explodes, it has a surprisingly far reach and can catch multiple enemies if they aren't careful. All enemies hit by the triggered Sticky Webs will be Stunned and Immobilized, making them prime feastings for you and your teammates.
And of course, a web is made when the trap is sprung, boosting the power of all teammates that happen to be standing on your webs. Your ally physical attackers benefit greatly from this move, as they have 2.5 seconds of time to work with to put the enemy down. Remember, the enemy is Immobilized, not stunned, so they can still hit back, but it does mean that they can't dash their way out of the trap, making them unable to retreat.
Your ally ranged attackers don't benefit as much from Sticky Web, but it does secure the distance between them and their targets. Immobilized enemies can't dash towards them either, so if an opposing Speedster got caught in your webs, your ranged attackers can very safely KO them before the Immobilization wears off.
However, if you'd prefer a move with greater utility, perhaps you would do well to use the alternative move instead.
Move 2b: Toxic Thread
The pokemon creates a trip line made of poisonous silk from its front and back end. The trip line becomes affixed to any wall in front of and behind the pokemon. If an enemy from the opposing team breaks the trip line, they will become poisoned and have their movement speed reduced greatly for 6 seconds, during which time they will become visible to you and your team on the minimap. 7s cooldown.
At Level 12, Toxic Thread becomes Toxic Thread+.
Increases the poison damage and movement speed reduction.
If the front and back wall are too far apart, the move will fail and the cooldown will be reset. The move will also fail if either of those walls are obstacles made by pokemon such as Crustle's Rock Tomb or Mr. Mime's Barrier. If this happens, the cooldown will be refunded.
The tripwire is a translucent purple thread that is difficult to see. When tripped, a web is created that covers the range of the move.
The poison damage is a damage-over-time hindrance that lasts for 5 seconds. Toxic Thread+ increases the damage of this hindrance.
Toxic Thread reduces the movement speed of the enemy by 35%. Toxic Thread+ reduces it even further to 50%.
While the enemy is poisoned, they will be shown on the minimap, even if no teammates are nearby. They will continue to be shown even if they go and hide in tall grass. If the hindrance is cleared or blocked by hindrance protection, the effect of being revealed on the minimap also goes away.
A second tripwire can be made by Toxic Thread if the first one hasn't been tripped yet. Up to 4 Toxic Threads can be cast until the oldest starts to be removed with each new tripwire made.
The hindrance and debuff have their duration reset if an enemy triggers the tripwire more than once.
Of all the brand new moves, Toxic Thread is a little weird. I mean, Galvantula got Electroweb, so they probably thought Ariados needed a similar signature move? Well, when Galvantula got it, Electroweb got immediately passed around via Move Tutor, so the novelty was lost right away. Ariados is still the sole user of Toxic Thread and, just like Spider Web, it's still not that good and doesn't improve the pokemon in any significant way.
Well, in Pokemon Unite, we can make anything work, and it just so happens that Toxic Thread has a great application for Ariados as a Supporter. See, while Sticky Web brings out the patient predator in Ariados, Toxic Thread works by fortifying the area and turning it into your territory.
In a suitable location, Toxic Thread weaves a tripwire laced with poison. When an enemy trips it, they get hit with a damaging hindrance and a painful movement speed reduction debuff, making them very vulnerable to an easy KO. And that is exacerbated by Toxic Thread revealing the location of the victim on the minimap, alerting you and your team that an enemy is within the area.
The rest of what happens next is determined by context clues and where the trap was set, and that might be a bit hard for some people to figure out. There are the obvious ones, like setting up Toxic Thread in the opposing lane to alert you and your team that the enemy is approaching to contest Regieleki or Rayquaza, and thus must react accordingly. But if only one tripwire is made, only one enemy will be revealed, and it's entirely possible the entire enemy team is nearby where the trap was tripped.
The tripwire is hard to see but not impossible to spot. It's triggered when an enemy passes over the line, but intangibility effects like Cinderace's Feint or Talonflame's Fly can evade tripping the wire altogether, no matter how well placed the trap is. It's also not unlikely that an enemy will pop their Eject Button just to avoid tripping the wire. While you can have more than one put down, the cooldown is meant for the trap to be put down in anticipation of the approaching enemy and is moderately useless in the middle of a team fight.
But just like your other moves, a web is made when the trap is tripped, covering the entire line of the trap. If you aren't nearby, the web disappears so it's a nonissue, but if you are nearby, chances are you have set it up as an ambush and are waiting with an ally for an enemy to trip it up. The hindrance inflicted greatly improves your odds of KO'ing the victim no matter who it is, as long as you do everything right. And also, you have your other moves to work with to weaken the enemy, whether it be catching the rest of the enemy team with Spider Web or dining and dashing on them with Leech Life.
The spider is deadly not for its poisonous bite, but for its infinite patience.
Unite Move: Binding Trap
Casts a huge line of silk in a fan shape in front of the pokemon, tagging all enemies with spider web. On hit, the enemies will be stunned and then forcefully dragged towards the pokemon. Once pulled in, the pokemon webs them up in silk, Immobilizing them for 3 seconds. A large spider web covers the area of the Unite Move afterwards.
Enemies in range will be stunned and dragged to the user's location. Enemies cannot use hindrance protection or resistance to evade capture unless that protection is provided by an opposing pokemon's Unite Move (Wigglytuff's Starlight Recital, etc.).
Enemies will be pulled towards Ariados when caught, even if a wall or obstacle is in the way.
Caught enemies will be Immobilized for 3 seconds.
A large web is created that covers the area of the Unite Move, activating Swarm.
With its terrifying threads, Ariados cast a mighty net that ensnares all enemies it sees. Any enemy without sufficient protection gets wrapped up and dragged towards Ariados, all tied up with a neat little bow for you and your teammates.
Being able to capture and drag all enemies to one location is an extremely powerful effect for a Unite Move, which is why it's balanced out when it's used by a frail Supporter like Ariados. Immobilization doesn't stop the enemy from attacking, so once you've lassoed in the enemy, get the heck out of there before the entire opposing team shakes off the Stun and decides you have to die first.
If you manage to escape after using the move, the rest is up to your teammates. Your allies will use their high burst damage options immediately on the bound enemies while your mobile teammates will make a break for the opposing Goal Zone. Context is everything, so is Map Awareness, so how your allies respond to your Unite Move can make or break a game, (especially if they aren't paying attention or don't have their own Unite Move ready...).
Since Immobilization doesn't stop the enemy from attacking, its best application is to pull enemies away from objectives like Regieleki or Rayquaza. Even if you get KO'd afterwards, pulling the enemy team out of range to kill snipe the objective is an extremely worthy sacrifice and one of your best possible plays, bonus points if you manage to survive.
See, on top of grouping up the entire enemy team together, you also create a massive web where the Unite Move is used. Since this Unite Move is very likely to be used during a team fight, your own team is likely to be nearby and on the web when it's made, granting all of you a massive Swarm boost. Depending on how many you manage to get, you can be an accessory to a full team wipe, and there is no greater feeling than that (except maybe committing that team wipe yourself...).
The Swarm boost only works if you're there in the fight and not KO'd, so it's important to leave the dirty work to the appropriate allies. It's best not to risk yourself unnecessarily when your team can do all the heavy lifting thanks to your Swarm ability. Better to stay out of harm's way.
You know what they say, bob and weave, float like a Butterfree, sting like a Beedrill, and both can be caught in a big enough net, I really have no idea what I'm talking about...
Holowear
Thanks to Ariados' proficiency in weaving silk, there are plenty of fun Holowear options it can wear. Starting off, Hero Style gives Ariados a face mask and a suspiciously familiar red and blue jumpsuit. Then there's Fishing Style that gives it a fisherman's hat and trousers along with a tackle box and fishing pole strapped to its abdomen. Tailor Style gives it a fancy pair of glasses along with shorts loaded with seamstress paraphernalia like sewing scissors and measuring type. Sporty Style gives it a headband on its head and abdomen along with sport shorts and a tennis racket strapped to its back (get it, because a tennis court is divided by a large net...). And finally, Debug Style gives it a pair of square glasses and a lab coat fitted for its buggy body, to give it some IT professional flair.
Strategy
In order to set yourself apart from the other Supporters in the game, it's important to understand what Ariados brings to the table and what it can do that others can't. Through its Swarm ability, it's the only Supporter that can provide a consistent power boost to the team. While Blissey can boost basic attack speed with Helping Hand, Ariados powers up teammates through its ability, and all of its moves connect its teammates to the power grid of its webs.
As such, you have to be mindful of what your team composition looks like at the start of the game. If you have plenty of physical attackers, you can afford to be more aggressive as most of your webs are made at close range. With mostly ranged attackers though, you should be more cautious and avoid overextending in fights, since your allies are likely going to hang back until it's safe to approach. Regardless of which moves you pick, they are adaptable to your team's offensive approach.
Starting off, your basic attack requires a patient volley of at least 6 hits to Immobilize an enemy. Because of the way basic attack targeting works, it's difficult to select who to Immobilize first without Smart Targeting set in the Options Menu. Rather, you should shoot first and then figure out what to do with whichever enemy you've snagged in your web. Capitalizing on a captured enemy can open up an opportunity for you and an ally to take over a lane in the early game, so learn when to take advantage of such openings.
Between Spider Web and Leech Life, Spider Web seems like the superior choice as it covers a wide area to boost with Swarm and slows down enemies caught in the attack. It also increases the effectiveness of your basic attack, Immobilizing them in less hits while they're on the web. However, Leech Life delivers some punch as Ariados does have a usable Attack Stat and is a great choice if the opposing team has frail Attackers and Speedsters. Not only does it drain HP and make webs at the point of damage, it also deals boosted damage to enemies affected by a movement speed debuff or the Immobilization Hindrance, which is very easy for you to inflict. You might think, well, Ariados is a squishy Supporter, why should I risk myself for a KO like that? Because of the boosted damage you can inflict, Leech Life has a very strong possibility of KO'ing a frail Attacker or Speedster. If you catch them off guard, you can actually KO them before they unleash their burst damage and greatly damage your teammates. The best kind of Support is the one that makes enemies disappear.
Sticky Web and Toxic Thread is where you let the spider out and leave out traps for the enemy. Either move can and will greatly limit the amount of space the enemy can work with, as one can Immobilize multiple enemies at once whereas the other foils surprise attacks. Sticky Web is the 'obvious trap' move that coerces enemies to take a detour around it. Some bold enemies may take advantage of their hindrance protection and walk through the traps, but if they're traveling as a group, there's a good chance an opposing teammate will get caught. Toxic Thread can be set up at multiple locations to either warn of an advancing enemy or to hinder the approach of a powerful opponent capable of high burst damage. Either move is a great trapping tool, but Ariados cannot make use of the opportunity of trapping enemies and must rely on its teammates to take the hint and engage the weakened enemies.
As a Supporter, Ariados powers up its team not just by boosting their power, but also by creating openings for them by hindering the enemy. There's a specific reason why Ariados can inflict Immobilization and not just Stun, and that's because you are playing as a team. Ariados can web up and trap enemies, but can do very little to them even while they're bound. You need your teammates to come in and finish the job, as your ability to Immobilize enemies is the first step to overtake the opposing team. That's why Ariados can boost teammates with Swarm, Immobilize enemies constantly, and wrap up the enemy in its traps, to make up for its own shortcomings and achieve its dreams of becoming an actually good Pokemon.
This itsy bitsy spider may be easy to flush out, but when the sun comes out, it'll drive away the rain and the spider will climb to the top if given the opportunity.

And that's Ariados for Pokemon Unite! While it's not one of the newer pokemon, this post was actually made pretty recently in my Drafts. Yeah, just like Tinkaton, I got hit by the idea of a Supporter utilizing an uncommon status effect to get the most out of its ability to support, and up came Ariados. Toxic Thread is the first move I came up with, as tripwire moves and traps are not that common in Pokemon Unite (Duraludon's Stealth Rock, Sableye's Feint Attack). Also, it feels good to make an underwhelming pokemon viable in Pokemon Unite by turning them into a Supporter.
Anyways, next up, we've got an All-Rounder rolling in from the Galar Region. Who's it gonna be? Follow and find out!
