Boys with BIG Toys...
...British sports cars and bridges
Welcome to cooler and shorter days here in the northeast, which also happens to be the perfect motorcycle riding time of the year. Stumbling upon something like the Black River & Western Railroad in Ringoes, New Jersey, just makes it all that much better.
This railroad has been operating in some capacity since the 1850s, but I just discovered it on this mid-October morning. As dumb luck would have it, I arrived just as the billowing coal-fired locomotive was pulling in to the station. If it wasn't for dumb luck I'd have no luck at all.
The luck continued, as the ride from the Black River to the Van Sant Historic Airfield was blessed by a couple of detours. I was unexpectantly treated to some great Bucks County, Pennsylvania, backroads.
This is certainly one of the last 250+ mile days I'll ride this year, so it was great to put this one into the memory bank.
Just dumb luck I guess.
Enjoy the video along with the soundtrack:
Choo Choo Ch-Boogie (performed by the Alpha Rhythm Kings featuring Tammi Savoy, and Night Train (performed by the Oscar Peterson Trio)

Car spot: A British classic
This weeks car spot: A British Classic the Lotus.
Even though they are now owned by a Chinese company When I think of great British automotive names, Lotus immediatley comes to mind mainly because of Jim Clark and Colin Chapman. That dynamic duo won with just about any car they put on the track. It’s that great racing heritage that lives on to this date with their sport cars Take for example this week’s car spot the Lotus Evora. Normally a…

1955 Lotus IX, S/N 089
This Lotus IX, one of approximately twenty five built and the eighty ninth Lotus built overall, was delivered to Len Bastrup of Wilton, CT during June 1955. Over the next five years Bastrup had substantial success with the car even as it was later succeeded by new models.
For its first race Bastrup took the car to the SCCA National at Beverly Farms, MA and won two events over the weekend. For its second race weekend Bastrup brought the car to Thompson for the first time to compete in the Labor Day SCCA National. Bastrup again finished first and broke the existing class lap record by an impressive two seconds. Over the next four year the car had approximately thirty outings with roughly half of these at THompson. During this period, it also won races at Watkins Glen, Montgomery and Lime Rock Part including a victory on the opening day at Lime Rock in 1957. While the car won a number of races at Thompson, including its last race in Bastrup's hands in 1959, not every day was a success. While running near the front at the 1956 National Bastrup rolled the car in the downhill section. The damage was not too severe and they were back a month later to achieve a second in class. Triumph TR Fury, 1964. A Michelotti designed prototype for a monocoque sports car which would have replaced the (separate chassis) TR models. Despite the car’s obvious promise it was decided to continue with the strong-selling TR5 instead and the prototype remained a one-off which is now part of the www.JHWClassics.com collection
