Collection of Overlords _ Part 1.5

[Alastor & Other Overlords x Soul Owner of All Overlords!Reader]

Okay, I think this needs to be set clear before there are future parts since no one asked about Reader’s/your presence in the show was. While you never made a formal appearance until in Part 1, which is after the battle with Heaven, you were hinted here and there.

Pilot: 

The beginning scene where Carmilla opens the curtains, showing Zestial, Zeezi, and Lucifer in the same. Then the scene of the Vees, and Rosie. There are eyes staring at them. Like just eyes

When the clock tower resets the extermination day, eyes opened to eye the new countdown before closing just as fast

During when Vaggie talks about “ancient and destructive evils”, your outline as a puppeteer is shown above all the Overlords

Episode 1: Overture

Episode 2: Radio Killed the Video Star

Alastor laughs at Sir Pentious that seeking to join the Vees was a terrible decision since their standing as Overlords was rocky and unstable. He taunts that Sir Pentious wouldn’t be able to hold the title as Overlord or fit in, referencing the Collection of Elites

Episode 3: Scrambled Eggs

After Zestial and Alastor were done with their chat like on the show, Zestial remarks that Alastor was very brave to go missing for 7 years but also remarkable that he was still in the Collection as per the mark on his soul

When Overlords are seated, they inspect the others to make sure the group was still intact and without change. Also reporting that there was no sighting or word from you, to their disappointment

After Velvette left, Zeezi laughed that the Vees’ days might be numbered with that attitude, Rosie chuckles and shrugs, saying that it wasn’t their decision or say in the matter

When Whatever It Takes is done, Zestial suggests for Carmilla to contact you on the matter since this was out of her hands. Carmilla sit back down on her chair, holding out a pendant with an eye design on it

The Egg Boiz reported to Alastor that Carmilla was the one to kill the angel and that she may contact someone, telling Alastor that Carmilla might have someone to back her up without knowing that Alastor know who it was implying

The same Egg Boiz didn’t mention you to Sir Pentious and only Carmilla killing an angel

(behind the scenes: you instructed for Carmilla to continue as always and maybe provide help to the hotel if she deemed it worthy)

Episode 4: Masquerade

When Valentino is offering a place for Charlie to star, he mentions how it could make him rich and show his dues to you without specifically mentioning you. Valentino’s a bit condescending when he addresses Charlie because he only sees you to be the one in higher power and rank

Valentino threatens Angel, hinting how he wouldn’t have some weak Princess or contracted soul ruin things for him. Meaning he is aware that he’s on thin ice with your interest and favour. Also implying that Charlie was nothing for him to fear, because he fears your wrath more

Valentino laughs how Charlie has no real power compared to what he faced with, confusing Angel since he has no idea of your involvement in the Overlords’ circle

While Husk was mentioning about his Overlord status, for the first time you’re mentioned, he talks about The Collector. “But when you’re dealing with souls while also being a gambler, the stakes are pretty high. I was warned about that, but when you’re winning, you don’t hear that kinda stuff. In my place, I lose a few hands and it got dangerous that I didn’t even know. When you’re down on your luck, you turn to anything to keep you afloat. Even making deals yourself.”

“What happened?”

“Turns out, I was long abandoned. And I wasn’t in the group anymore when I have that last deal. Like the fallen Overlords before me, I was hunted for being disrespectful and arrogant. Now I’m here.”

Episode 5: Dad Beat Dad

“Big talk for someone who’s also on a leash.”

“I should have torn your soul apart and broadcasted your screams for every other disrespectful wretch who dares to abuse My Liege’s mercy and generousity! You were lucky your former Liege was merciful enough not to let your death happen.”

When Lucifer’s lecturing on Charlie about the hotel, he mentions how it lacks the power and authority needed to make it work. It’s referencing to you teaching Lucifer how to rule as the King of Hell when he first arrived

Episode 6: Welcome to Heaven

Episode 7: Hello Rosie!

(behind the scenes after Vaggie left, Carmilla grips on the pendant and hopes she did the right thing that wouldn’t disappoint you)

Episode 8: The Show Must Go On

The the Vees celebrate, they explicitly cheer for joy and anticipation that Alastor would be removed from the Collection of Elite while eyes were staring at them without their knowledge, also mentioning how they’d rise in ranks (favour)

Alastor’s breakdown is more centered around the possibility that he knew you were always watching and saw his defeat and shameful retreat, for his actions, he might fall from your interest and favour. He fears he’ll end up like Husk

When the news of the canceled extermination is being broadcasted to all of Hell, your silhouette was shown by a window with eyes closed and a small smile on your face. “Time to check in.”

Note: You can ignore this or not, but I had to at least put this out cause some Overlords' actions are a bit different, namely Alastor's breakdown reason.

I could go into depth as to why Hazbin Hotel’s pilot was significantly better than the actual series (minus voice acting and song quality) but will I?

Let’s speed run through just how the opening scene of both the pilot and episode 1 differs, and how the pilot is better.

So the pilot opens with Charlie singing solemnly, while we get a brief look into the aftermath of the extermination and how it affects different people (for example the Vees seemingly don’t care, different to the implication of Carmilla having the curtains closed during the extermination), specifically Charlie.

This entire scenes makes clear early on that this extermination thing really really upsets Charlie and makes her doubt herself and the world. It immediately grounds her character as one who has empathy and insecurity.

I would also like to add that I really like how the tower countdown thing resets to 365 so we are shown that the extermination is a yearly, devastating event.

On the other hand, the actual episode 1 opens with Charlie forcing exposition about her parents’ lore and then directly telling us everything that the pilot lets us infer.

> “I get pretty worked up after the extermination happens.” We’re only shown chaos in the background, rather than taken through that chaos. There’s no time to digest just how bad the extermination is and how it impacts hell.

Since viewers are new to the world and series, they don’t know how hell is like. The happy day in hell musical number later on makes it seem like that’s what hell is normally supposed to look despite it being the aftermath of an extermination.

This leads to Charlie’s motivations being weak. We know that the extermination is bad, sure, logically. But the opening scene fails to let us feel it the same way the pilot does.

If the extermination plays such a huge role in motivating Charlie’s actions, why is it only told to us super briefly?

Not only that, “pretty worked up” doesn’t even show through in Charlie’s action well. It’s just there to force Charlie to dump exposition. Compare this to pilot Charlie who cried while singing.

The issue with the Prime Hazbin Hotel is its pacing and the way it assumes you’ve watched the pilot and are a fan who already knows all about the series and characters. But it can’t do that. But it does, so execution wise it fails quite miserably.

Allat just for just the opening scene. I can go much further but I’m too lazy right now.

Danny stood off in the kitchen by the drink table and she scans the room, smiling softly. It had been a while since the whole gang was together and what better way to ring in the new year than hanging out with the old Scooby gang. Even having Laura Hollis around again felt nice. It had been years since Silas and Danny and Laura had made up and her feelings for the small blonde had faded long ago. It was nice to feel as though they could be friends again. Carmilla and Laura had even settled whatever feelings had still been between them after their break up. But none of that mattered anymore. Tonight was finally the end of the year and Danny had been prepping for this moment for a long time.

Five minutes till midnight and Danny placed her glass down on the table, ready to make her escape to the bedroom to get the thing that’ll really ring in the new year right. Only she spotted Carmilla making her way over to her. Quickly Danny managed to catch Kirsch’s eye and nod towards Carmilla. He must have gotten the message and made his way over to her, starting up some conversation with her.

Danny let out a small sigh of relief and slipped into their bedroom, heading straight for her dresser. Thankfully she had let Kirsch in on what she had been planning on for months. He was a goof, but Danny trusted him fully to keep the secret, especially since he and Carmilla never had much reason to interact unless Danny was there. She dug in the back of her top drawer, pulling out the sock and dumping the small black box into her palm. Danny let out a slow calming breath and opened it, looking at the small silver ring. It wasn’t anything super fancy just a small silver band with a few Celtic knots around it and a small red stone at the center. She had been saving up for a few months and had her eye on it for a while. It was the only one she had seen that seemed to fit Carmilla.

Three minutes till midnight. Danny quietly shut the box and stuffed it in her pocket. She slid the drawer shut and slipped back out to the party. Carmilla instantly comes to her side and Danny smiled softly.

“Hey, hon. You doing okay?” Danny asked, fully aware that she was not a big party person. She figured the gang would be a fine enough crowd and there was really no other reason to invite anyone else. Carmilla nodded, leaning into her side. Danny could tell she was feeling exhausted, she was a creature of the night, but this was a lot of stimulation and she was drained. Danny leaned down and kissed the top of her head, gently rubbing her shoulder.

“It’s okay, I don’t think everyone is sticking around for long once the ball drops.” She says, hugging her close. Carmilla nodded again.

Two minutes till midnight and Danny can feel the anxiety slowly creeping its way into her. She reached down with her free hand, brushing her fingers against the box again. Danny knew she was overreacting. It was Carmilla for Hera’s sake, she knew Carmilla would have no reason to say no. But that didn’t stop the wave of anxiety from making her stomach churn and her breath quicken. Had she still been a human, she was sure her heart would be going a million beats a minute. Let Aphrodite and Hera bless her.

“Here we go!” Kirsch cheers, handing everyone a glass of champagne as the clock reached sixty seconds until midnight. He gave Danny a confident smile. She was sure hers was meek, showing just how tense she was. He placed a quick pat on her shoulder before turning towards the TV.

Danny pulled Carmilla over towards the couch, watching the countdown, taking a spot by the armrest. She does a double check the space around them. Yeah, it was her own apartment, but she wanted to be sure she didn’t knock something over and embarrass herself. She was already putting everything out there.

Danny closed her eyes and tried to take a steady breath. She let her arm fall from Carmilla’s shoulders to take her hand. Holding onto her hand always helped to ground her.

She looks up at Danny, giving her a soft and calming smile. Butterflies let loose in her stomach. Gods give her strength. She was Danny Lawrence, an immortal badass who fought monsters throughout her college career. Asking the love of her life this question shouldn’t terrify her. Yet it did.

Another heavy sigh. Danny let go of Carmilla’s hand, changing the glass to her other hand. She shoved her free one into her pocket, clutching onto the box. A quick thought of maybe I shouldn’t flashed through her mind.

“Happy New Year!” Everyone cheers. She felt Carmilla turn, trying to pull her down for a kiss. Instead, Danny pushed her glass into Carmilla’s hand and pulled the box out as she sunk down to one knee. Her face read nothing but confusion and a nervous smile pulled at the corner of her mouth.

“Mircalla Karnstein,” Danny paused, gathering herself and making sure her voice stays steady. “Will you make me the happiest woman in the world?” She hadn’t moved, her eyes were wide, just staring at Danny with her mouth hanging open.

“I-I...what’s…” She couldn’t finish her question.

“Carmilla, will you marry me?” Danny asked. She could feel every muscle in her body shaking, fully aware that everyone’s eyes were on her. She swore they could all tell. But there was only one person who mattered. Danny could see a smile growing on her lips and wait, were those tears? They were.

“Yes, Xena, yes. Absolutely.” Danny grinned, surely looking like a giant smiling idiot and slipped the ring on her finger. She could hear Kirsch let out a whoo-hoo as well as the others clapping. A small sigh of relief escaped her lips, but she knew she shouldn’t be surprised. Of course, Carmilla would have said yes.

Danny forced herself up off the ground and instantly Carmilla’s hands are on her cheeks, pulling her down for a kiss. She smiled into it, hugging her waist.

“Happy New Year, fiancee,” Danny said once they pulled apart. Carmilla was beaming up at her.

“Happy New Year.” What better way to start the year than being engaged to the love of her life?

162 pages and 53,000 words later, Cassie’s Choice is probably the most favorite story I’ve ever written. a behemoth of a fic. and that’s saying something, especially since Sky Full of Stars was what gave me a place in the Carmilla fandom in the first place. I’m really, really excited for you all to discover Mack and Cassie’s journey in this new world I’ve created.  I’ll always be eternally grateful for the love and support I’ve gotten over these last nine months (I’ve started this in September) and knowing that I’ve got some very excited readers patiently waiting until I upload the story, makes me hopeful as well! It’s a cathartic feeling. 

I’ll be uploading all ten chapters AT ONCE, so feel free to cozy up in a warm blanket, a spot of tea, and some tissues. Disclaimer: you will probably cry. a lot.  I know I did while writing at some parts. I can offer emotional support and guidance as you read.
