How was he going to do this? Should he talk to Cyclone? No he needed proof or else the vice-admiral would toss this away.He sat alone in his bunk, towel on his shoulders since he just left the shower, allowing the solitude to reach his thoughts.
He needed a plan—something concrete to address the growing tension within the squadron. The encounter with Mark had left Rooster with a gnawing sense of unease, and the need for proof became more apparent. Without tangible evidence, any accusation against Mark might be dismissed, and Rooster couldn't afford to let the internal discord persist.
He opened a drawer beside his bunk, retrieving a small notebook and a pen. As he flipped through the pages, he paused at an empty one. Rooster began jotting down his observations, creating a timeline of the incidents involving Mark.
His mind traced back to the encounters in the locker room, the condescending remarks, and the private conversations. Rooster scrutinized each detail, searching for a way to connect him to the breach.
Fuck he was nervous.
He never dealt with stuff like this before. Annoying pilots? Sure. Possible threat that could ruin a lot of lives? Never.
Rooster continued to document his observations, creating a meticulous record of each incident. His thoughts drifted to the cryptic conversation Mark had with McAllister. It was a potential lead, a thread to pull, but Rooster needed to approach it cautiously. He considered talking to McAllister directly, seeking more information without revealing the gravity of the situation.
But he also wanted to make sure McAllister wouldn’t be harmed if he did talk…he rubs his chin, still thinking about what he should do. How do you prove that a pilot, a Lieutenant just like he was, was involved in such a thing?
Rooster's fingers drummed on the notebook as he mulled over his options. The weight of responsibility bore down on him, and he couldn't afford to make a misstep.
He decided to start with McAllister, someone he trusted and who had inadvertently given him a glimpse into the mysterious conversations. Rooster closed the notebook with a snap, tucking it away, and made his way to find McAllister.
The squadron's common area was relatively empty as most pilots were still wrapping up post-mission tasks. Rooster spotted McAllister reviewing some mission data on one of the computer terminals. Approaching quietly, Rooster cleared his throat to get McAllister's attention.
"McAllister, can I have a word?" Rooster asked, keeping his tone low-key to avoid unnecessary attention.
McAllister turned toward him, after jumping in surprise a hint of surprise in his eyes. "Sure, sir. What's up?"
“Not here, follow me.”Rooster motioned toward a quieter corner of the room, away from prying ears. Once they were a bit secluded, Rooster leaned in, his expression serious. "You mentioned Mark and the breach, what did you get?"
McAllister's eyes widened slightly, a flicker of nervousness crossing his features. He hesitated before responding, "Well, sir, recruit Haltzman and I were talking after the mission, and he seemed... agitated. He mentioned something about the breach, but he didn't go into specifics. I asked him why and…he said that Mark was bothering him about it."
Rooster's brows furrowed as he absorbed the information. "Did Haltzman mention anything else?" Rooster asked, his voice low and focused.
McAllister shifted uncomfortably, glancing around to ensure no one was eavesdropping. "He said Mark was pressuring him to share information about the breach. Haltzman seemed spooked, sir, like he didn't want to get involved. At all."
Rooster processed the revelation, his mind racing with the need to connect the dots. "Did he say how Mark approached him? Any specifics about their conversations?"
McAllister nodded, recalling the details. "Haltzman mentioned that Mark cornered him in the locker room after the mission. He wanted to know if Haltzman had overheard anything about the breach, and when Haltzman didn't give him any answers, Mark got... intense."
“Did he hurt him?"
McAllister shook his head. "No, sir. He just scared him. But he didn't want to say too much. I didn't push him, didn't want to make things worse for him."
"You did the right thing, McAllister. It's crucial to handle this delicately. We need to gather more information before taking any action."
Fuck.
McAllister glanced around, ensuring their conversation remained private. "Sir, I don't want to sound paranoid, but do you think Mark might be involved in the breach somehow?"
FUCK
Rooster sighed, rubbing his eyelids. "I don't know, McAllister. But we can't ignore anything. We need to find out more, discreetly, without tipping our hand."
"I'll keep my ears open, sir. If I hear anything else, I'll let you know," McAllister assured.
"Good. Stay vigilant, McAllister. We can't afford to underestimate the gravity of this situation," Rooster emphasized. "And for now, let's keep this between us. We don't want to create unnecessary panic until we have more concrete information."
McAllister nodded in agreement. "Understood, sir. I'll be careful."
As Rooster walked away from the conversation, his mind raced with thoughts and strategies. The need for evidence became even more crucial, and Rooster realized he had to tread carefully to avoid any potential backlash.
He noticed the Daggers sitting together and he beelined over to his friends, leaning down to the table and muttering a ‘a word?’.  Payback and Jake shared a look before standing up, then Phoenix tried to be as subtle as she could, busying herself with her watch while Bob followed behind them, adjusting his glasses.
Rooster led the Daggers to a quieter corner of the hangar, away from the prying eyes and ears of the squadron. He leaned in, his voice low but firm. "Alright, listen up. I need your observations, discreetly. Something's off with Mark, and it might be connected to the breach."
The Daggers exchanged glances, their expressions shifting from casual to alert. Payback, the intuitive one, spoke first. "What happened, Rooster?"
“Too much.”
Rooster quickly briefed them on McAllister's encounter with Haltzman, emphasizing Mark's suspicious behavior and the potential connection to the breach. If they were surprised…they didn’t show it.
Phoenix crossed her arms, snorting. "I knew it."
“You did?”
“Well…I had a feeling.”
Rooster raised an eyebrow at Phoenix. "You had a feeling? Care to share?"
Phoenix leaned against a nearby crate, her expression thoughtful. "Mark's been acting strange for a while now. I thought it was just the stress of the missions, but if there's something more..." she says, “Besides we wouldn’t do that shit.”
Jake chimed in, his voice low and serious. "...what should we do then?”
Bob adjusted his glasses, a glint of determination in his eyes. "I'll discreetly check the network logs, see if there's any unusual activity that might be linked to Mark. If he's involved in the breach, there could be a digital trail."
Payback crossed his arms, his expression grim. "I'll talk to the recruits, see if anyone else has had strange encounters with Mark. We need to gather as much information as possible."
Rooster nodded, appreciating the initiative of his team. "Be discreet, and don't escalate the situation. We need to find out what's going on without causing a panic. Jake and Nix, what will the two of you do?"
Jake glanced at Phoenix before turning his attention back to Rooster. "I'll keep an eye on Mark during the next mission. See if there's anything unusual in his behavior or actions. If he's involved in something shady, I might be able to pick up on it."
Rooster nodded in approval. "Good plan, Jake. Just stay subtle and don't provoke anything. We need evidence, not confrontation."
Phoenix, her arms still crossed, chimed in. "I'll help Bob." and that was it, “What about you,Rooster?”
Rooster sighed, running his hands through his hair. "I'll talk to Vice-Admiral Simpson. Inform him about the situation without revealing our suspicions. We need his backing if we're going to investigate this properly."
The Daggers dispersed, each embarking on their assigned tasks  and Rooster? Rooster made his way to Vice-Admiral Simpson's office, and he had to elaborate on a few things.

Beatrice could feel the earth sticking to her gloves as she dug into her garden, digging enough to create a little hole in her front yard so she can plant the newest addition to her plant family: begonias!
It was one of Shells’ gifts…as in the plant she got thinking she’d care for but didn’t, so she gave it to Bea. Shells was still in her house, being a great babysitter for the babies and the dogs by napping on the couch with the twins on her chest and Nicole on her stomach all the while being surrounded by Jack and Eleanor.
Meanwhile, Jolene was lying next to Beatrice’s feet outside, keeping her company.
The sun bathed the garden in a warm afternoon glow as Beatrice continued planting the begonias. She carefully placed each seedling into the soil, patting it gently to secure their place. The occasional chirping of birds, and the distant sound of laughter from down her street made this a perfect day.
Truly.
Rooster was safe while deployed, the kids were safe, she was safe…
Nothing could ruin her day.
“Hello Beatrice.”
Miranda.
Beatrice’s back straightened up like a rod as she kept her eyes forward, clenching the hand trowel tight and not turning around to greet the woman but muttering a “Hello,Miranda.”
Miranda's voice held a peculiar mix of sweetness and a subtle undercurrent that hinted at something unsettling. Beatrice's pulse quickened, but she maintained her composure, focusing on the begonias before her.
"What a lovely garden you have," Miranda commented, her footsteps approaching.
"Thank you," Beatrice replied, her tone polite but distant. She continued to work on the begonias, avoiding direct eye contact.
Miranda, undeterred by Beatrice's reserved demeanor, circled around to face her. Dressed in a flowing, elegant dress that seemed almost out of place for a casual neighborhood encounter, Miranda observed Beatrice with a piercing gaze.
"Begonias,hm?"
"Yes, begonias," Beatrice replied, trying to keep her voice steady. She could sense Miranda's eyes on her, probing and searching for who knew what. "They're lovely plants."
Miranda smiled, but it didn't reach her eyes. "Lovely indeed. Such delicate flowers, yet resilient. A fitting choice."
Beatrice continued her work, planting the last begonia with a deliberate focus. She saw Jolene move forward and place herself between the two women, with her back against Beatrice’s, keeping her eyes on Miranda.
"How’s Rooster doing in his mission?" Miranda said, her voice carrying a note of feigned concern. "Good?"
“Yep. How’s Mark? Good?”
“Oh, I don’t have to worry about Mark.” Miranda tilted her head, her gaze unwavering. "He’s an amazing pilot, after all."
Beatrice suppressed a sigh, her patience wearing thin. "That's good to hear. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have some gardening to finish."
Miranda stepped closer, seemingly unfazed by Beatrice's attempt to create distance. "You know, Beatrice, I've always found gardening to be such a therapeutic activity. A way to nurture and tend to something, watching it grow and flourish."
Beatrice shot her a sidelong glance, her tone cautious. "It is. It helps clear the mind."
Miranda's eyes narrowed, the facade of friendliness slipping for a moment. "Clearing the mind can be a double-edged sword, Beatrice. Sometimes, it's better to confront the things we'd rather avoid."
Beatrice tightened her grip on the hand trowel, her patience fraying. "I'm not avoiding anything, Miranda. Now, please, I'd like to be alone."
Miranda's smile returned, as if she hadn't just veered into unsettling territory. "Of course, dear. I won't keep you. Just remember, should you ever need someone to talk to, I'm here. We're neighbors, after all."
Beatrice licked her lips, then tilted her head “...you know Miranda.” she looks up at the woman, Jolene’s head turning to look at Beatrice, “...Rooster is a great pilot too.”
Miranda's expression remained calm, but there was a subtle tension in her posture. "Of course, Beatrice. Rooster is indeed skilled. But sometimes, skill alone isn't enough to navigate the challenges life throws at us."
Beatrice shot her a quizzical look, her suspicions growing. "What challenges are you talking about, Miranda? "
“Well I–’
“Do you know our challenges Miranda?” Bea stood up, placing a hand on Jolene’s head when the pittie tried to move forward “Do you know what me and Rooster went through before?”
Miranda's facade faltered, a flicker of discomfort crossing her features. Beatrice's direct question seemed to catch her off guard, and for a moment, the poised demeanor cracked.
"Beatrice, we all have our struggles," Miranda replied, her voice attempting to regain its previous composure. "I meant no offense. I only offered an ear should you ever need to share your burdens."
Beatrice crossed her arms, her eyes narrowing as she studied Miranda."I appreciate the offer, Miranda, yet again" Beatrice said, her tone measured. "But I don’t understand what you want here, you think I’m not aware? Do you think I’m dumb?"
Miranda's composed facade wavered further, and a subtle bead of sweat formed on her forehead. Beatrice's direct confrontation seemed to have rattled her, and she took a step back, her eyes momentarily avoiding Beatrice's probing gaze.
"Beatrice, you misunderstand me," Miranda said, her voice a touch strained. "I never implied—"
Beatrice raised an eyebrow, unyielding. "Then what did you imply, Miranda? You come into my garden, talking about challenges, offering an ear. What's your game?"
Miranda took a steadying breath, attempting to regain control of the conversation. "There's no game, Beatrice. I'm merely expressing neighborly concern. We're part of the same community, after all."
‘Are we?”
It was like a vocal slap against Miranda who just stared flabbergasted. “It’s the…fourth time you say stuff like that, and honestly, I don’t buy it. I don’t like how you think I should flaunt Rooster’s abilities against Mark, I know that’s your plan.”
"Beatrice, I assure you, there's no ulterior motive. I'm here as a concerned neighbor," Miranda stammered, her eyes darting around as if searching for an escape route.
"Concerned neighbor, my foot. I–” she pauses, “...I love Rooster. I love him. And he’s not a trophy I toss around…he’s my husband, he’s the one man I’d break bones for…his happiness and wellbeing are what matter to me…so if you are here trying to…I dunno, be weird, you should go.”
Miranda's attempts at maintaining composure fell apart like a house of cards in a gust of wind. Beatrice's raw honesty, fueled by her love for Rooster, had dismantled any facade Miranda had tried to construct. The air between them crackled with tension, and Miranda, for the second time, seemed genuinely unnerved.
"I don't know what you're talking about, Beatrice. I'm not here to—"
"Don’t lie to me," Beatrice cut in, her eyes unyielding. "I can see through the act. Whatever game you're playing, it won’t work. Rooster and I have been through enough. We don't need someone stirring up trouble."
Miranda's eyes darted around again, searching for a way to salvage the situation. The serene facade she usually wore had crumbled, revealing a woman who was uncomfortably out of her depth.
Beatrice took a step closer, her gaze unwavering. "I love my husband, Miranda. He means the world to me. I won't let anyone jeopardize our peace."
Miranda swallowed hard, a nervous tic playing on her features. "Beatrice, you're misunderstanding. I have no intention of causing any trouble. I—"
"Save it," Beatrice interrupted, her tone firm. "I don't know what your game is, but I won't entertain it." Beatrice turned away, focusing her attention back on the begonias. Jolene, sensing the tension, remained vigilant by Beatrice's side, her eyes never leaving Miranda.
Miranda, flustered and off-kilter, struggled to regain control of the narrative. "Beatrice, I assure you, there's no ill will. I'm only here to—"
"You've said enough," Beatrice replied, her voice unwavering. "I think it's best if you leave now."
Miranda hesitated, her eyes flickering with a mix of frustration and anxiety. "I—"
"Now," Beatrice reiterated, her gaze piercing.
Miranda, realizing the futility of the situation, nodded reluctantly. She turned on her heel and made a hasty exit from Beatrice's yard, leaving behind a trail of unresolved tension. Beatrice watched her go, shoulders finally relaxing as she just allowed herself to drop on the soft dirt…and groan out.
She’ll have to talk to Rooster.

(Posted on Tuesday) Monday had a lot going on, needless to say. We had our third Girl Scout meeting for our Citizen Scientist Journey, but it was because of the eclipse. We embarked on our citizen science project by recording the eclipse for NASA! It was the most amazing thing to watch too. We were in the path of totality, so it worked out really well. I don't know if I have ever seen something so beautiful when it went into totality and we were able to take our eclipse glasses off. Even watching it through the glasses go completely dark was incredible. And then when the sun came back out, that split second that told us to put our glasses back on, that too was stunning! We won't have another one until 2044, but I think we would have to travel for that one. I am so happy that we were able to experience it together as a troop. I love that we can make such breathtaking memories like this together.

Shiki Has one Heck of a Plan to Save Mother
In order to save Mother before she fades away, Shiki has an insane plan involving a Chronophage and futuristic technology. No, seriously. The plan Shiki has in store is something straight out of #DoctorWho
Edens Zero Chapter 277 Review/Recap Have you ever seen a plan so insane that, despite everything telling you it shouldn’t work, you know it will? After last week’s chapter of Edens Zero ended with Shiki asking Mother to disappear, I freaked out at first. But during the week since then, I got to thinking, “Wait, what if Shiki’s plan was to do that?” As crazy as it was, it seemed like the only way…

I finished thumbnailing chapter 1!!!  And yeah, my sentiments exactly, Blaze.
(though, for the record, I think the above reaction is a lot more reasonable for me in my situation than it is for Blaze in his...)
277 panels, 11 episodes, equivalent to about 55 pages.  I have to do a little cleanup, but then I’m gonna send it off to some folks for review while I start work on [redacted] for February! :D

The Seven Deadly Sins Chapter 277 Review
Tumblr media
With the news of the series getting close to its ending (around volume 40 according to Nakaba), it’s no wonder the recent event has grown intense. Unfortunately, one character won’t able to see the next day. It’s all thanks to Tarmiel for letting his feelings get the best of him. The option to redo the plan is out of the window; it’s time to gamble. This chapter is largely a setup for the next crucial battle that very well be the conclusion.
A reminder from the last chapter kicks in hard with Derieri slowly falls down as her conscious fades away. This could have been avoided entirely if Tarmiel held on for a little longer. Is his action worth it? We’ll get to that soon. Even so, I was attached to her character, so it irritated me to see a simple mistake cost tremendously. I was also hoping for one more action to take, but the blow was too strong. It’s the end for her.
To make matters worse, Mael was already casting a spell to take her Commandment; making this as his fourth one. In other words, he intended to continue where Estarossa left off. Nothing has changed and so as his ego. Translation: Tarmiel truly cost everything. King tried to stop, but he’s too exhausted to do anything. Sariel once more tried to reason with him, but it’s clear that Mael has lost it. Thus, another transformation is in process. Not only Mael will be even stronger, but nearly everyone can’t fight. Anyone willing to shout Meliodas like Krillin to Goku?
Undoubtedly, my favorite scene is with Derieri and her sendoff. At first, I thought she was alive and only sent far away from the battle. As if she was teleported and avoided death entirely. That was unfortunately false. She indeed has died. Her soul is revisiting her memory and it becomes clear with Derieri and Monspeet of the memory appearing. It can be said it’s the very moment where her path was made.
It’s sad that her life was set the moment Meliodas betrayed The Ten Commandments. I can see why Meliodas felt responsible for many problems; sucks to be a Commander. She was so frustrated with his action; therefore, her path was made when she decided to chase after him to capture. Not only she was “loyal” to the Demon Clan without questioning, but her hatred got the best of her that essentially decided her fate. What’s also sad is Monspeet was in present at that time.
Derieri wasn’t thinking clearly; all she can think was revenge. Monspeet wondered what to do next; awaiting for her order. What hits me the most is he actually suggested her to follow Meliodas’ lead as in discarding the Ten Commandments and maybe live in a better life, which in hindsight it is, more or less. She immediately declined his suggestion and brushed it off like it’s a bad joke. Monspeet was actually serious, but because she decided to chase Meliodas to capture, he followed her without a second thought. He’s that kind of gentleman. It’s disheartening that they had the chance to move on to a different life, but discarded it and eventually led them to this tragic fate.
If Derieri had known her action beforehand, she probably could have lived longer if not lived as a better person. One moment could have changed everything and she missed that opportunity. Even so, you got to like Monspeet to remain loyal to her for he truly loved her. He followed her despite the wrongful decision. So long he’s with her, he’s happy. Although she witnessed her faults, she also saw the happiness of Monspeet. She can at least die on a satisfying way, knowing what she missed without any regrets.
That was a touching scene that thankfully Nakaba did justice with her character’s sendoff. It only proves she and Monspeet were the two that had plenty of characterization to end on a sad yet satisfying note. Elizabeth recovered her resolve to save Meliodas, stop Mael, and put an end to the Holy War. It’s the usual death lead to development scenario, but I don’t mind it here for it fits her character from their backstory. I did hope for Derieri to live a little longer, but fate isn’t exactly friendly. Rest in Peace, Derieri and Monspeet.
There’s another sad scene and surprisingly, it’s from Sariel and Tarmiel. It’s not sad like hitting in the feel, rather how depressing the tone has become. It’s mainly because Mael is no longer their brethren, now that he possesses four Commandments, which would likely altered his persona drastically. Not only that, but everyone is not in a healthy state to fight. Sariel has fallen to the point that he believes this is the end for all of them. Damn, this hurts.
He doesn’t sugar coated and tells Tarmiel that this is his fault for unable to follow the plan completely. Not only has he lost Mael, but soon, his and everyone’s life. Reading Sariel’s words in sorrow is actually painful. It’s because he has been the matured one out of the group and seen as a thoughtful person that doesn’t give up until there’s really no hope. He finally hit to that bottom. He feels like a failure and ask for forgiveness from Supreme Deity. Yeah, he has fallen.
Tarmiel, already filled with guilt, begs Mael to wake up to his senses. Karma can be a person’s worst enemy and so, shall applied to Tarmiel for he gets struck down by Mael’s beam; assumingly ending his life. That is a harsh way to say, “He’s no longer Mael you loved.” I can’t say I didn’t see this coming, but still, pretty brutal to do so. If those two are dead, well, that really sucks to end by your own brethren. One mistake is all it takes to cost everything.
We never got to see Mael’s next transformation (insert final form meme), but we got to see Gowther’s newly resolve to fight Mael. No more offering himself as a sacrifice; it’s time to get serious. Elizabeth is healing King, so maybe when she’s done, all of them could work together. Gowther is handicapped with one eye and I believe he lost an arm just now. That’s what this chapter sets up for and I’m hyped to see what follows.
Tumblr media
This was a really good build-up with a couple of emotional scenes. It was the best possible way to end Derieri’s character; leaving no regret behind. It was surprisingly sad to see possibly the last moment of the two Archangels, even if one practically doomed everyone. Mael’s next form is saved for the next chapter as well as the battle, and if I calculated right, we are on break due to the holiday. What timing, Nakaba. All this chapter was missing is YouSeeBIGGIRL/T:T soundtrack, even though there’s no traitor involved. Still, the tension is running high and it’s up to the Sins to finish the fight.

The drab walls of the briefing room enclosed the squadron as they awaited the commencement of the mission briefing. Rooster and McAllister sat side by side, reviewing the flight logs one last time before the higher-ups took the stage.
The air in the room was charged with tension and anticipation. Pilots whispered among themselves, exchanging insights and predictions about the upcoming missions. The commanding officer stepped forward, a stern expression etched on his face, and the room fell silent.
And he was very glad it was Cyclone.
"Good afternoon, pilots," he began, his voice carrying authority. "We've gathered here for a crucial briefing regarding the next set of missions. As you're all aware, recent events have emphasized the need for heightened vigilance and precision in our operations."
Rooster listened intently,  but his eyes moved around the room, one of his hands cupping his chin as he watched, like a hawk, everyone’s expressions.McAllister, seated beside him, however absorbed the information like a sponge. His eyes flicked between the screen and the documents in front of him,
Rooster couldn't shake the feeling of Mark's eyes on him.
Cyclone's briefing style was methodical, his explanations precise and to the point. "Mission Alpha will involve a coordinated strike on an enemy supply depot located here," Cyclone pointed to a spot on the map. "Intel suggests a significant buildup of resources that could bolster their offensive capabilities. Our objective is to cripple their logistics chain and disrupt their operations in the region."
Rooster's eyes flickered to McAllister, who was nodding along, his gaze fixed on the screen. The young pilot seemed determined to grasp every nuance of the briefing.
"Mission Bravo," Cyclone continued, "will be an aerial reconnaissance mission over the disputed territory. We need up-to-date intelligence on enemy movements and installations. Stealth and evasion will be key. We're expecting heavy resistance, so be prepared for dogfights."
The briefing unfolded, each mission intricately planned with a focus on precision and coordination. Rooster noted the critical points, mentally mapping out the roles of each pilot in the upcoming operations.
He stole a glance in Mark's direction, finding the fellow pilot locked in a conversation with another squadron member.
The suspicion gnawed at Rooster, but he pushed it aside, refocusing on the briefing. Cyclone’s words echoed in the room, outlining the significance of each mission and the potential impact on the ongoing conflict. “Any questions?” Cyclone asks with his eyes moving to each face, “No? Good,Rooster,” he beckons the Lt. “A word?”
Rooster nodded in acknowledgment as he stood, excusing himself from the briefing room and telling McAllister to keep an eye around. Cyclone led the way into a smaller, adjacent room where they could speak privately.
"Rooster, I've been reviewing your recent missions and your performance evaluations," Cyclone began, his gaze penetrating. "You've been doing exemplary work, and your leadership in the squadron is commendable. However, I need to address a matter of concern."
Rooster raised an eyebrow, his expression attentive. "Sir, if there's an issue, I'm here to address it."
Cyclone leaned against the briefing room table, folding his arms. "It's nothing coming from you, you are doing fine but…this breach thing.”
Cyclone's mention of the breach immediately heightened Rooster's alertness. "Sir, I've been keeping a close eye on the team. The recent missions have been intense, and I'm making sure everyone is sharp and focused..."
Cyclone nodded, acknowledging Rooster's vigilance. "It's not about your actions, Rooster. Like I said you were doing fine…I’m just annoyed because this whole thing could’ve been prevented if you got the info. I’m…very relieved everyone survived, truly, you did great.”
"Thank you, sir. Do we…have any leads or suspects?"
Cyclone's expression grew grave. "The investigation is ongoing, but we're working with limited information. That's why I wanted to speak with you. You're perceptive, Rooster, and your experience could provide valuable insights. Have you noticed anything unusual, any behavior that stands out among the pilots?"
Rooster's mind immediately went to Mark. The fellow pilot's demeanor, his interactions—or lack thereof—with others had raised red flags. "Sir, I can't say for certain, but…someone has been somewhat isolated. He doesn't interact much with the other pilots anymore, and there's a certain tension when he's around."
Cyclone nodded thoughtfully, absorbing Rooster's observations. "I appreciate your honesty, Rooster. We need to maintain a cohesive unit, especially in times like these. Any additional information you can provide will be crucial to the ongoing investigation."
"I'll keep a close eye, sir. If I notice anything else, I'll report it immediately."
"Good. We can't afford any compromises in the squadron's integrity anymore. Now, back to the briefing." Cyclone gestured for Rooster to follow him back into the main room. “You still have to give me your reports.”
Rooster returned to the briefing room, his mind still processing the weight of Cyclone's words. The gravity of the breach and the potential threat within their own squadron lingered in the air. He resumed his seat beside McAllister, exchanging a brief nod with the young pilot. “Everything okay, sir?”
“Yeah,” Rooster nodded “Don’t worry about it.”
Cyclone resumed the briefing, seamlessly transitioning back into the strategic details of the upcoming missions. "Mission Alpha is scheduled for tomorrow at 0600 hours. Flight squads will be divided, each assigned a specific target within the supply depot. We're anticipating heavy anti-aircraft defenses, so precise coordination will be crucial. Rooster, you'll be leading Alpha Squad."
Rooster acknowledged Cyclone's assignment with a nod, already mentally strategizing the squad's approach.
The room was filled with the low hum of discussions as the briefing continued. Rooster delved into the details of Mission Alpha, working out the finer points of the strategy with McAllister and the other squadron leaders, Jake and Nat, thank God. The intensity of the planning session heightened as they considered the potential threats and challenges they might face in the upcoming mission.
As the briefing concluded, Rooster gathered his reports and notes, feeling the weight of responsibility settle over him. He exchanged a few words with McAllister, emphasizing the need for vigilance. The young pilot nodded, his determination evident.
Rooster stepped out of the briefing room, his mind was still preoccupied with the ongoing investigation and the looming mission. He needed to keep a close eye on the squadron, especially Mark, and ensure that every member operated as a cohesive unit.
The airbase buzzed with activity as pilots prepared for the upcoming mission. Rooster made his way to the hangar, where the sleek Hornets were prepped and ready for the sortie. The ground crew worked efficiently, performing final checks and loading the necessary munitions.
They were leaving in the morning  but you had to be sure, after all.
Rooster approached his Hornet, running a hand over the smooth surface of the aircraft. The adrenaline of the upcoming mission coursed through his veins, and his eyes moved briefly.
Mark lingered in the periphery of Rooster's vision, engrossed in his own pre-flight preparations. The tension between them remained palpable, a silent undercurrent beneath the bustling activity of the hangar. Rooster's instincts told him to stay vigilant, to keep a watchful eye on Mark's every move.
First he wanted to befriend everyone.
Now he was isolating himself.
After the breach.
Suspicious.
Rooster took a deep breath, grounding himself in the present moment. He couldn't afford to let personal tensions distract him from the mission at hand. The squadron's success depended on their unity and focus, and Rooster was determined to lead them to victory once again.
So he could go back to Bea.
-
“Bea.”
“Yeah?”
“Your aunt is…very strange.’ Shells muttered as the two cleaned the Hard Deck, Shells was leaning on her mop while Bea lifted the chairs so the floor was easier to clean, “I mean, it’s not like she’d know about Mark and Miranda but um…wow.”
The rhythmic sound of the mop against the floor echoed through the empty room, the lingering scent of cleaning supplies mixed with the familiar smell of the ocean created an odd but not entirely unpleasant atmosphere.
"Well…yes. True" Beatrice said, glancing at Shells as she maneuvered a chair into a corner.
Shells shrugged, her eyes narrowing in thought. "I don't know. It's like she has this...otherworldly air about her. And the way she talks, it's like she's always dancing around something, you know?"
Beatrice chuckled, setting another chair down. "That's just Aunt Martha being Aunt Martha. She's always been a bit mysterious. I remember the time she convinced me there were fairies in the garden."
“I mean, that’s pretty cute.Reminds me of my grandpa telling me there were monsters under the bed." she pauses “Didn’t help he was a vice admiral, made everything…uh…scarier.”
Beatrice sighed, taking a break from arranging the chairs. "Aunt Martha has her own way of looking at the world. She's intuitive, and sometimes it feels like she's tuned into a frequency the rest of us can't hear."
Shells chuckled, resuming her mopping. "Well, if she has any insights into what's going on with Mark and Miranda, now would be the time to share."
“Shells, Aunt Martha's insights usually come in the form of cryptic riddles. It's like she speaks in a code only she understands."
"Fantastic," Shells muttered, rolling her eyes. "Just what we need right now."
“Well, she told me to patient and to be careful.” Bea shrugs, “Better than nothing.”
"And what about Rooster? Martha had any insights about him?"
Beatrice paused, her brow furrowing in thought. "Well, she did mention something about navigating storms. Metaphorical ones, I think."
Shells chuckled, a sly grin on her face. "Sounds like Martha's way of saying, 'Good luck dealing with your complicated pilot husband.'"
Beatrice rolled her eyes, a fond smile tugging at her lips. "Something like that. Aunt Martha's advice always feels like unraveling a puzzle. But you know, she's family, and family has a way of seeing things we might miss."
"Yeah, well, I hope she sees something helpful in that mystical crystal ball of hers," Shells quipped, wringing out the mop. “And the kids? Are they with your parents?”
As Beatrice continued arranging the chairs, she nodded in response to Shells' question. "Yeah, Mama and Papa took the kids for a little while. They wanted to spend some time with them, and I thought it would be nice for the kids to have a change of scenery." she says
“Besides, it helps them feel at ease, they just want to help now that Rooster is deployed.”
“Did you tell them about…Mark and Miranda?”
Beatrice sighed, a moment of hesitation flickering in her eyes. "Not yet. I don't want to worry them unnecessarily. We don't have concrete evidence, just... suspicions. And you know how Mama worries."
Shells nodded in understanding. "True. It's a delicate situation. We don't want to cause unnecessary stress, especially for your parents. But if things escalate, we might have to let them in on it."
Beatrice nodded,"Exactly. Let's focus on what we can control for now. Aunt Martha's cryptic advice aside, we need to stay vigilant and keep an eye on Miranda without causing a panic."
"Agreed," Shells said, glancing around the now-clean Hard Deck. "Well, this place is spick and span. I think we've done our duty as cleaning warriors for the day."
Beatrice chuckled, placing the last chair in its designated spot. "Cleaning warriors, huh? I like that title. Maybe we should get capes."
Shells grinned. "I'm all for it. We'll be the superheroes of cleanliness." she smirks “I’m sure aunt Penny wouldn’t mind but you holding up okay, Bea? I know it's not easy with Rooster away and all this tension in the air."
Beatrice smiled, hugging herself. "I'm managing, Shells. I am a lot better than I was, honestly."
Shells smiles, hugging her close, “I’m glad, girlie, you deserve a break, you know? Hey,I’m going to see Ev tonight, she asked me to bring her some of our old college supplies, wanna join?”
Beatrice considered the invitation,  "Sounds like a plan. It's been a while since I caught up with Ev. I could use a break from all this."
Shells grinned, her enthusiasm contagious. "Great! It's a plan, then. We'll raid the old college stash and have a mini reunion."
As they made their way out of the Hard Deck, the atmosphere seemed to lighten, the weight of responsibility momentarily lifted. And…Beatrice felt lighter, much lighter.

annual writing self evaluation
took this template from @quelsentiment hope you don’t mind!!
1. Number of stories posted to ao3: 10 (9 complete, 1 WIP)
Don’t Forget Where You Belong (1D) (WIP) you and me got a whole lotta history (b99/1D) everyone i know will know exactly who you are (so much has changed since you’ve been away) (b99) time moves slow (b99) go full circle round (New Girl) these high walls (New Girl) marching to the end (then i found a place to start) (b99) CLEANSED: The Nutriboom Scandal (b99) Murder at the Rink (b99)
2. Word count posted for the year: 51 277 (the most I’ve ever posted!)
3. Fandoms I wrote for: Brooklyn Nine Nine, New Girl, One Direction
4. Pairings: Mostly gen, but I also wrote Jake/Amy and, bizarrely, Amy/Teddy
5. Stories with the most:
Hits: Murder at the Rink Kudos: Murder at the Rink Comments: Murder at the Rink
6. Work I’m most proud of and why: It’s hard to choose, but I think I’d have to go with everyone i know will know exactly who you are, because it was such a challenge to take that joke scene of Jake in a coma seriously. I’m really proud of the way I used a bunch of small scenes to tell a much bigger story. I feel like I managed to make Amy/Teddy plausible, which was a huge challenge. And, most importantly, this fic was so cathartic to write. Especially the last scene where Amy’s talking to Jake, it became more than just a fic, but a way to tell myself that things were going to be okay no matter what.
7. Work I’m least proud of and why: Probably CLEANSED: The Nutriboom Scandal, which is my version of the first chapter of the prop book from b99 season 8. There’s nothing wrong with this fic, but I wrote it very fast as a silly, throwaway idea, so it ultimately doesn’t mean as much to me as some of the other fics I’ve written this year.
8. Share or describe a favourite review you received: I received many lovely reviews this year, and I’m thankful for all of them! That being said, I’ll shoutout @impossiblyizzy @benwvatt and @pippythewriter for consistently leaving amazing, thoughtful reviews on my fics, sometimes even fics that they don’t know the source material for <3
9. A time where writing was really, really hard: I think the hardest thing this year was finding time to write once I was back in the office full-time. I write in my day job, so unless I have some down time during the day, I don’t usually have the energy to write when I come home at night.
10. A scene of character that you wrote that surprised you: Writing genuine Amy/Teddy fic, for sure, in everyone i know will know…. Also starting my first RPF and my first One Direction fic, Don’t Forget Where You Belong.
11. A favourite excerpt in your writing: Here’s the scene in Don’t Forget Where You Belong where Harry gets sucked into an alternate dimension.
The black seems to be getting...blacker. So dark it's blindingly bright. So dark it's no longer a colour. It's a current. An all-consuming force that's sucking him in and tossing him around until he can't tell which way is up. He can't feel the floor under his feet, like he's simultaneously falling and flying. He gropes for the door handle, but it's suddenly no longer within his reach. Somewhere in the back of his mind, he knows she should feel scared—he might be dying—but it's all so surreal and things are happening so quickly, he doesn't feel much of anything except a dull roar in his ears. He lifts up a hand in front of his face and can't see anything and suddenly he's not sure his body even exists.
He loses time for a few seconds. Or longer, it's hard to tell. But when he comes back to himself, he can feel the floor buckling under his feet like the sea. All he knows is that he needs to get home. Now. He takes a step and sees stars. They're white and flying around at light-speed, past his face, sticking to his hat and coat. He takes a step and then falls forward, landing with his hands into something wet and cold. Snow. Wind. The blizzard. When he looks up from where he's apparently fallen, the streetlamps flicker back on. He's on the main street in Holmes Chapel, a row of brown-brick storefronts to his right and the old stone church to his left. The bakery, not far behind him, is barely visible down the street.
12. How did you grow as a writer: I feel like I grew a lot as a writer this year. I’ve become more confident in taking on complex ideas that require me to do a lot of planning and character- and/or world-building. My average fic length has gotten longer as well and I’ve continued to experiment with style and form.
13. How do you hope to grow next year: I hope to keep working on planning and writing longfic (20k+ words). I also hope to keep improving on writing in past tense, since I naturally gravitate to present tense. And I hope to keep enjoying writing and taking on interesting fic ideas, no matter whether I think it’s going to be popular or not.
14. Who was your greatest positive influence this year: Everyone who beta’d or helped talked me through a fic, @suspended-in-gaffa @amyscascadingtabs, and MediumSizedEvil.
15. Anything from your real life showed up this year: My real life always unconsciously makes its way into my fics. Most of my new fics have been exploring what it means to come to terms with your home, in some way or another, because I moved back to my hometown because of the pandemic and basically spent the next year processing it. Murder at the Rink, in particular, is a weird teen-sleuth-murder-mystery love letter to my hometown. That fic is set in hockey-obsessed smalltown Canada, which is where I’m from. It was really nice hearing from readers that I was able to bring them into the world, which is essentially like getting to show them my home.
16. Any new wisdom you can share with other writers: Just keep writing! When I first started writing fic, I would look in awe at authors who could write longer fics and AUs and stuff. I thought I’d never be able to do that, but it just came naturally the more I started writing. Also don’t be afraid to write stuff that you think will be unpopular, you might be surprised by the number of people who are interesting, and even if you only have a few readers, quality of feedback >>>> quantity of feedback, anytime.
17. Any projects you are looking towards starting/finishing this year: I have the month of January off before I start my next work contract, so I’m hoping to finish the whole first draft of Don’t Forget Where You Belong. After that, who knows, I don’t really have any other plans at the moment. I might take a break and work on some original writing stuff for a bit, especially now that b99 has ended.
18. Tag some other writers whose answers you would love to read: Since I didn’t actually get tagged in this, I feel like I shouldn’t tag anyone else lol, but if you’d like to do this, feel free!!

ASC Chapter 276 -- The One Where Ginny Bites George
https://www.fanfiction.net/s/12924292/276/A-Second-Chance
They both turned to look over at Ginny. George was holding her from behind and still fighting the hellion in his arms. She was doing everything that she could to break free, her eyes raging in hatred towards Harry. Ron stepped in front of her, his hands grabbing her arms.
“Ginny, stop! What’s wrong with you? That’s Harry! Stop!”
Her brown eyes were full of hatred and revulsion as she fought George’s embrace. Her red hair in its messy ponytail was slapping around her face; she was almost snarling.
“Ginny!” George exclaimed, grasping her arms more firmly. He spun her around, pinning her against the wall hard enough to make her teeth rattle and blocking her view of Harry. “Ginny, it’s George! Look at me!” His fingers grabbed her chin tightly. “Ow! She fucking bit me!”
Ron grabbed her arms, pinning them against the walls as well. “No biting! Merlin, Ginny, stop!”
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Fic Writer Review
Tagged by @maos2013 (thank you!!!)
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
28.
2. What's your total AO3 word count?
188,716. I haven't looked at that in a while, so I was definitely surprised to see it that high.
3. How many fandoms have you written for and what are they?
4. Only 3 I posted while only 2 of them I have finished fics for. They are My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic (I WAS 12), Avengers (the only fandom I haven't posted a fic for but have written for), Descendants, and of course, Agents of Shield. I feel like there might be more, but these are the only ones I have full memory of writing for.
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
This is Home 277 kudos - My very first aos fic and also the very first fic I ever posted on ao3! And of course, it's a Dousy baby fic, which is kinda on-brand for me at this point. Also, it turned 1 year old almost a couple weeks ago, so there's that!
A Miracle Starts With a Beat of a Heart 192 kudos - 1/2 of my multi-chapter fics, and currently my longest multi-chapter fic on ao3. It's also the first fic to reach 100k words. This is definitely the fic I've worked the hardest on, and I'm so proud of what I've created.
Bittersweet Moments 79 kudos - I was surprised by this since I haven't updated this in a long time. My Mama May and Daisy additional/missing scenes fic that I should probably continue, but I just haven't gotten around to it. Probably should cause I have so many fluffy and angsty moments for these two.
Aftermath 73 kudos - 3x15 aftermath/missing scenes. 3x15 is my favorite season 3 episode, so I just wanted to do a one-shot of the aftermath with the team finding Daisy at the top of the building and also her in recovery with a little bit of sweet Mama May and Daisy moments.
Bedtime Stories 64 kudos - The first one-shot sequel to This is Home and the first fic written in the Their Future series about the kids of the Shield Team. This was in where Daniel tells his and Daisy's youngest child, Eleanor, a bedtime story of how he and Daisy first met. Just fluffy father-daughter bonding. And of course, Dousy cause you can never have enough of them.
5. Do you respond to comments, why or why not?
YES!! I respond because it literally makes my day whenever I see a comment, so I want to make sure I let everyone who comments on my works know that I am so grateful for their comment, even if it's just as simple as a heart emoji.
6. What's the fic you've written with the angstiest ending?
I don't think I really have that many fics that end in angst if they do at all. I mostly write fluff, but if there is angst, it's a hurt/comfort so it usually ends in fluff. I guess Aftermath ends more ominously (but not really since we know what happens after 3x15), so that's the closest I can think of to an angsty ending. I do know that Chapter 4 of A Miracle Starts With a Beat of a Heart ends in slight angst since that part of the fic is between seasons 5 and 6, so they get the news that Coulson dies at the end of it.
7. Do you write crossovers? If so, what is the craziest one you've written?
Nope. I don't have the imagination for it.
8. Have you ever received hate on a fic?
Not that I know of.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
Nope.
10. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Yes. Sort of. The very first Descendants fic I wrote when I was 16/17 (so about 4 years ago) and posted on Wattpad had its plot stolen and the characters' names were changed. The author added "inspired by [my fic's name] by [my username at the time]" later so I got credit eventually. I wasn't really upset at the time since I was still starting out writing frequently, and I guess if someone copies your fic, that means you did something right that they liked.
However, if it were to happen now, I would probably be super upset since I feel more connected to my fics now than before.
11. Have you ever had a fic translated.
No, but that would be cool to see!
12. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Nope, but I think it was my freshman year of high school, me and my friends wrote """fics""" about each other, and it was super weird but super funny at the same time.
13. What's your all-time favorite ship?
DOUSY!!! They really took my favorite fictional character ever and paired her with my favorite character from Agent Carter and probably my favorite male character ever, and they just worked so well! Like I was already excited for season 7 when I heard they were bringing Daniel back, but then put him and Daisy together... OMG! I would've thought their meeting was impossible, but then time travel was added to the show, and they just compliment each other so well!
14. What's a WIP that you want to finish but don't think you ever will?
I don't really think I have WIPs that I won't eventually finish. For fics at least. I wrote a couple of original stuff during my freshman/sophomore years of high school, and I probably won't touch those ever again.
But if we're talking WIPs that I haven't written and they're in my head... next question!
15. What are your writing strengths?
I feel like I do fluff really well.
16. What are your writing weaknesses?
I feel like I still need to work on high-emotion stuff. Like showing anger and stuff and using blows towards the characters that don't sound too cringy/forced when they say it.
17. What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?
For me, as long as it makes sense for the character who is saying it and when they're saying it. I try not to do it too much since I only speak English fluently while I can only understand some words and phrases in Tagalog, and I don't want to mess something up since I use Google Translate if I do write in another language. For example, I think I only really write Elena speaking Spanish and May speaking Mandarin in kind of happy emotional scenes. I might throw in a few phrases here and there in Spanish for Elena since she sometimes does that in the show as well.
18. What was the first fandom you wrote for?
My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. (AGAIN, I WAS 12. DON'T JUDGE ME.)
19. What's you're favorite fic you've written?
A Miracle Starts With a Beat of a Heart quickly became a favorite of mine, but I truly do love most of the fics that I have written.
Tagging: @stilltryingtowrite @mtab2260 @marvelsquake @puddle-of-awesomeness and any other fic writers who want to do this!
