Mr. Davies Giddy rose and said, that while he was willing to allow the hon. gent. who brought forward this every degree of credit for the goodness,of his intentions, as well as for his ability and assiduity; still, upon the best consideration he was able to give the bill, he must totally object to its principle, as conceiving it to be more pregnant with mischief than advantage to those for Whose advantage it was intended, and for the country in general. For, however specious in theory the project might be, of giving education to the labouring classes of the poor, it would, in effect, be found to be prejudicial to their morals and happiness; it would teach them to despise their lot in life, instead of making them good servants in agriculture, and other laborious employments to which their rank in society had destined them; instead of teaching then subordination, it would render them factious and refractory, as was evident the in the manufacturing counties it would enable them to read seditious pamphlets, vicious books, and publications against Christianity; it would render them insolent to their superiors and, in a few years, the result would be, that the legislature would find it necessary to direct the strong arm of power towards them, and to furnish the executive magistrates with much more vigorous laws than were now in force. Besides, if the bill were to pass into a law, it would go to bur-then the country with a most enormous and incalculable expence, and to load the industrious orders of society with still heavier imposts. It might be asked of him, would he abolish the Poor-Laws altogether? He had no hesitation to declare he would; for, although they relieved many persons, who were certainly objects of compassion, they were also abused by contributing to the support of idleness and profligacy; and he never could admit it to be just or reasonable that the labour of the industrious man should be taxed to support the idle vagrant. This was taxing virtue for the maintenance of vice.
Saying the quiet part aloud.

Me: I am in a terrible mood and am going to write a very ungenerous response in which I do not assume good faith and even call someone an asshole. >:(
@jabberwockypie: Actually here's some receipts on how you were being way too generous and giving this person way too much credit.
[person who I'm not going to tag, in a frankly insulting response]: Well obviously there is clear value difference between books, but since you need a definition, here, take this link to a "family-run publishing company that produces classical Christian education materials" that "exists to promote and impart the classical heritage of the Christian West," is "Saving Western Civilization one student at a time!," and which posted a recommended children's book list that includes both creationism and a defense of the fucking American south in the civil war.

Ron DeSantis’s Florida school curriculum is a steaming pile of white supremacist Christian nationalist propaganda bullshit lies. The curriculum claims slavery was no big deal and the Founders were super-sad about it, and that the Founders never intended there to be separation of church and state.

So a bit of context: I can't sleep on my left side. My heart often goes crazy and I end up having nightmares or lucid dreaming which sucks when you get anxious. Generally my brain tries it's best to wake me up if that happens.
A couple weeks ago I was lucid dreaming and I tried screaming to wake myself up but only terrified my mother in the process.
BUT NOT TODAY, no no no.
Today I dreamt that Chris Cornell came into my room asking if he could open the window cause I stink. I was like: yea, sure dude, whatever. Then realised my whole ass is out and woke up.

Still can’t believe they made Big Bill say, “Teach me, Learning Tree! I hope you’re watching!” like he was seven years old.

Christ I block so many people to avoid Imogen discourse and still it gets through, and it is *always* the same stupid pattern of people poorly interpreting what Imogen did/said to -> cast aspersions on her dedication to the cause/say she's going evil -> saying Imogen fans can't hack any critique of her when they get mad that people are saying she said or did something she didn't.
This is so BORING y'all can we talk about what actually happened and Imogen's actual issues and not this constant rehashing of the same ideas that are not even accurate to the show, like *goddamn*
