Book #42 - Tales From The Shadowhunter Academy by Cassandra Clare & others
(first time read, this book makes a great bookstopper)
Welcome to the Shadowhunter Academy - I want to introduce this Academy to the concept of class conflict, preferably in form of a practical demonstration.
The Lost Herondale - We can keep Catarina and maybe George and Simon, but the rest can jolly well piss off, thanks.
The Whitechapel Fiend - (Will, Jem, Tessa!!) I like-dislike Jace. It's like love-hate, but with decidedly less effort.
Nothing but Shadows - So... another teaser for The Last Hours? Marvellous.
The Evil We Love - Has the book forgotten how it set up all the Shadowhunter students as some degree of bigoted? Wouldn't something regarding that have been a more valuable lesson than "Don't Get Dragged Into A Cult 101"? Or am I expecting too much.
Pale Kings and Princes - Helen yay, Simon/Izzy drama roll eyes, new, extremely racist teacher boo. Quoting Keats at me is considered a cheap shot I don't appreciate.
Bitter of Tongue - Mark :(
The Fiery Trial - The first story I actually liked. Fabulous.
Born to Endless Night - I adored this one, even though I cringed a lot at the more sitcom-y aspects. Also, Jace's actual calling is comic relief character and he should follow it as often as possible.
Angels Twice Descending - I have started liking Clary, I think. The George thing kinda seemed like a dick move, though.
All in all........... eh? I'm not jumping in joy, but I also didn't hate it. It was... fine.
Still don't like the Shadowhunter students.

WILLIAM AND CATHERINE’S STAFF.
Some of you asked me to do a post about the staff working for William and Catherine. It is important to mention that these are the people I know who work for/with them and that this information is mainly taken from LinkedIn. As I mentioned before, getting pictures of some of them would be complicated. Usually, those who accompany them on their engagements are in the background, so it is difficult to get a clear enough picture of them. It goes without saying how difficult it is to get photos of the people who don't usually accompany them on their engagements, although I guess there won't be much interest in them. Below each section, there is a collage in the order they appear in the list, if the number of X person in the list is not in the collage it means that I couldn't find a picture of that person, I hope you understand.
WILLIAM:
Jean-Christophe Gray, Private Secretary
Genevieve McCarthy, Assistant Private Secretary
Louis Reynolds, Assistant Private Secretary
Laura Baker, Assistant Private Secretary
JC has a private assistant named Katherine Hawley.
Tumblr media
CATHERINE:
There is no confirmation yet, but the press has said that her new private secretary is named Alison Corfield.
Natalie Barrows, Assistant Private Secretary
Catherine's private secretary had a PA but she left in 2022, her name is Francesca.
Tumblr media
 WILLIAM AND CATHERINE'S JOINT STAFF:
COMMUNICATIONS TEAM:
 Lee Thompson, Head Communications Secretary
Edwina Iddles, Deputy Communications Secretary
Adam Born, Senior Communications Officer
Rhea Vernon, Communications Officer
Annabelle M., Senior Communications Officer
Daisy Northway, Communications Secretary
Paul Rutland, Digital Communications Officer
Nathan Murphy, Personal Assistant to Communications Secretary and Communications Office Manager
A few months ago KP was looking for a Digital Lead, which was the position that David aka iPhone Guy had but so far I don't know who it is, I think it's safe to say that they did hire someone because, in the ad where they were looking for a digital content creator, they said that this person would work closely with the Digital Lead.

A lot of the “spicy” romansce fantasy authors that kind of pioneered the sub genre (SJM, Jennifer l armentrout, laura thalassa etc) all started in YA, and then in mid series, they shifted and grew with their audience to go more adult in themes.
Do you think Cassandra Clare should have done the same thing and missed this opportunity? Would you have preferred if she reflected this? I personally feel like her fandom would still be as strong as ever if she followed her colleagues suit.
Or do you think that she stayed good sticking to her roots and her writing voice lends itself to not have more adult type of romances and benefits from a fade to black shall we say.
In her latest kickstarter, one of the four novels that are in it, will feature 10 spicy romantic couples from shadow hunters universe. Given this is crowd funded it makes me wonder if, if it were up to her, she would have gone more adult themed but her publishing contract held her back from it. But then from a publishers pov, isn’t that shooting yourself in the foot? All the authors I mentioned above changed their contracts I feel to reflect the direction the audience knew would give the most captain gain.
I would love to know your thoughts on this 🤭.
I don't think Cassie ever wanted to write romantasy or spicy romance-fantasy as her main "vocation".
I think I picked up on this when she deleted a lot of Julian and Emma smut scenes from The Dark Artifices because they didn't serve the progress of the story. Cassie has her indulgences, but she tends to not be overly focused on writing romance or smut in the grander scheme of the fantasy story. Cassie's guilty pleasure in writing seems to be writing semi-unnecessary angst and fluff between close friends more than anything, not spice.
I'm quite glad we're getting some spice from the Kickstarter project, and I think the reason she's making this an additional, optional project and not part of the main series is because she knows it's just for fun; it's not her main "thing", just an additional treat.
So all in all I'm quite happy she didn't follow with the Sarah J. Maas and company trend. And frankly, neither did Cassie's close writer besties either. Neither Holly Black nor Maureen Johnson nor Sarah Rees Brennan have gone into smutty adult fantasy either, so I get why it's not Cassie's preference. Cassie seems more set on establishing herself as a "serious" high fantasy writer now, hence rubbing elbows with George RR Martin.

"Their child wept, but I never wept. My eyes stayed dry as the dust and dead flowers on their grave. I hated Roland from the day he took her from me. I hate all Nephilim for her sake, and the Herondales most of their kind. Whatever the Shadowhunters touch is brought to destruction. Auraline's child had a child. There is still a First Heir in the world. When the First Heir rises, in all the awful glory bought by the blood of Seelie and Unseelie and Nephilim, I hope destruction comes to the Shadowhunters as well as Faerie. I hope the whole world is lost."
-The Land I Lost, Cassandra Clare and Sarah Rees Brennan

Book #40 - The Bane Chronicles by Cassandra Clare, Sarah Rees Brennan and Maureen Johnson
(first time read, every story gets its short comment)
What Really Happened in Peru - I probably would have had more to say about it, but now, at the end of it, all that stuck to my brain is the sentence "Geoffrey had the nose of a man who never shut up.", because I am still bamboozled by it. What does it mean.
The Runaway Queen - Two things, actually: a) Do not describe to me what Paris smells like, ever, because I will have violent flashbacks to reading The Perfume and will throw up on your shoes; and b) In general, but especially directly after reading A Tale Of Two Cities, this was the most out of touch thing I have read in a long time.
Vampires, Scones and Edmund Herondale - Heartbreak, Horror, I did not need to know how exactly Magnus knew Will's parents, and I still wildly dislike Camille Belcourt. This story, too, did not succeed in stiring even a single sign of sympathy in me.
The Midnight Heir - *insert over-excited comment about seeing Tessa/Jem/Will again in a story together*
The Rise of the Hotel Dumort - First story of the book in which I didn't consider Magnus to be kind of a dick. Yay.
Saving Raphael Santiago - "God can't help me, and God can't stop me" is such an edgy teenager thing to say, I might actually like Raphael now.
The Fall of the Hotel Dumort - The first and only time I have been convinced that the whole Magnus/Camille thing actually has the weight to it that previous books and stories have insistently told me is there.
What to Buy the Shadowhunter Who Has Everything (And Who You're Not Officially Dating Anyway) - One of the very very few book!canon occassions in which Izzy got to express a minimum of character. Also, Alec is a sweetheart. Who allowed this title, though.
The Last Stand of the New York Insitute - I did not expect carnage from this book, but I guess here we are. Also, I love Tessa.
The Course of True Love (And First Date) - I really do like Alec.
The Voicemail of Magnus Bane - Eh...? I am back on the "book!Izzy is an annoying facsimilie of a character" train. This was boring as hell.
Conclusion: Magnus was a superficial dick in his earlier days, but grew out of it around the time he met Will and the whole Infernal Devices happened. (At least I stopped yelling at him around The Midnight Heir...) And now he actually seems to be a decent dude. What a cute, not entirely necessary sidetrack this book was.

Nettles Casting Speculation(Part 2)
Tumblr media
Where is Nettles? Who is playing her? Is it the woman in the blurry photo from months ago? Is it Anna Jobarteh? Is it someone else? When will she come out of hiding?
I don’t know the answer to any of these questions and since HBO doesn’t want to tell us(I’m about 79% sure it’s Anna at this point, but you never know with this sh*tty show😑) I am once again compiling a list of all the actresses who could possibly be her.
1. Adelayo Adedayo
Tumblr media
She’s 34 and the last project she was working on is in post-production.
2. Clare-Hope Ashitey
Tumblr media
She’s 36 and not currently working on any projects. The side profile looks like it could kinda be a match.
3. Jasmine Jobson
Tumblr media
She’s 28 and doesn’t appear to be filming anything at the moment.
4. Little Simz
Tumblr media
She’s 29 and nearly 5’8.” I don’t think she’s filming anything at the moment.
5. Nicole-Lily Baisden
Tumblr media
She’s sadly currently in a play, but I wanted to include her anyway.
6. Nicholle Cherrie
Tumblr media
She’s 5’8” and she’s not currently working on anything at the movement.
7. Laura Lake Adebisi
Tumblr media
Her last project is in post production.
8. Melissa James
Tumblr media
She’s not currently working on anything.
9. Denise Laniya
Tumblr media
If I had to guess her age I’d say she’s in her mid to late 20s(based on when she graduated). She’s not currently involved in any productions.
10. Ellena Vincent
Tumblr media
Can’t find her exact age, but she doesn’t appear to be in any productions currently.
11. Keziah Joseph
Tumblr media
She’s 31 and her last two projects are in post production.
12. Aisha Toussaint
Tumblr media
She’s 28 and doesn’t appear to be working on any projects.
13. Roxy Sternberg
Tumblr media
She’s 34 and has no upcoming projects.
14. Aliyah Odoffin
Tumblr media
From what I can find she’s 23, but she doesn’t appear to be working on anything at the moment.
I’d just like to say personally I’d love it if she was Netty 👏🏽
15.Mali Ann Rees
Tumblr media
Her last project is in post production.
16. Faye Campbell
Tumblr media
Her playing age is between 15-23. She doesn’t appear to be working on any projects at the moment.(her play wrapped up back in June).
17. April Nerissa Hudson
Tumblr media
Her playing age is between 16-25. She’s has a upcoming play in October that she’s staring in.
18. Karla Crome
Tumblr media
She’s 35 and she doesn’t appear to be working on any projects at the moment.
19. Angela Marie Hurst
Tumblr media
Her playing age is between 25-40. She was in a play from late July to August.
20. Colette Dalal Tchantcho
Tumblr media
I cant find her exact age but she graduated with a bachelor’s back in 2011 so I say it’s safe to guess she’s in her early to mid 30s. It doesn’t look like she’s working on any projects currently.
Do not make me do a part three. I mean it Ryan🙃 It’s almost been a freaking year. Where the hell is she 😊
