What, in your opinion, is the strongest evidence that Mike realized his feelings for Will in season 2? (If you don’t mind reiterating this point, ik you’ve talked about this a bunch of times)

it’s the first time he ever separates will from everybody else in his life. people say he did that in 4x04, and he did, but it wasn’t the first time. when mike delivers his monologue, he looks at will and he says meeting him is the best thing he’s ever done. will is immediately separated from literally everything else in mike’s entire life, put into his own separate category, because he’s the best part of mike’s life.

in s1, mike made sure to tell dustin that he, lucas, and will were all his best friends. he’s now placing will away from them, because they aren’t the best part of mike’s life. will is, and will alone. he never even actually addresses will as just a friend in the monologue, only says that asking to be friends was the best thing he’s ever done, before completely separating will from every other friend he’s ever had INCLUDING el.

there’s a ton of reasons why the shed scene makes the most sense and this is barely anything, but it’s the strongest piece of evidence imo. if we’re taking the separation of will from everybody else as romantic, then we have to treat this scene with the same interpretation. mike has known will is different from everybody else for a long time now, and he realizes right around the time of the monologue (maybe a little before). it’s part of why, for the first time in the entire show, we see him push will away rather than pull him close at the snowball. mike was supposed to be with el, he couldn’t have those feelings for will, so he pushes him away. he does it and we see his dejection over it, but he did it anyway. mike was consciously trying to push will away as early as the snowball, and the only significant moment they had before that together was the shed scene. el came back literally right after, so he never had a chance at sorting that shit out before the expectancy to date el was present again.

i loved that they were asked if they could pinpoint when they noticed a shift between them (and their answers, i love hearing all these different perspectives). i i think part of the beauty of the slow burn is that there's no specific point? also the way this goes back to "she fell first, he fell harder" because tim at the hallway scene in 4x22 was hit with a world of emotions and realizations after that kiss

chenford having to face the reality of what lucy being uc means will no doubt be tough but i'm so happy they're finally going to address it!!!!! they've been in such a honeymoon phase and every time the topic is brought up they pretend it's fine but it's v much not

So, that's... Henry's sister. Who is supposed to be three years older than him. Interesting. The actor who plays Henry is 18, but she looks 12. And the flashback in S4 was already sus, lol. They say she was 15 and Henry was 12 when they "died", but they cast Livi Birch, who is younger than Raphael Luce (here)

I have so many thoughts about it. Maybe Henry is seeing the past here? Their first day in the new house... in 1957?

If we're dealing with different timelines, I'm really curious to see how they will handle it in a stage play (Also, Bob and his radio show!)

Setup and Payoff

Dear Rookie writers: <clenches fist, looks out longingly onto a field of continuity> Look. I get it. You had to execute the ship. You were moved to an earlier time slot, so less risqué content. You tonally shifted to a comedy. Covid fucked your timeline, etc etc etc. FINE. I give you all of that.

But for the love of all that is good and holy can you PLEASE WRITE NORMAL FUCKING STORYLINES THAT MAKE SENSE.

Screenwriting is simple. Setup. Payoff. Like, for example:

— setup: show actively sets up friend ribbing friend about a coworker crush/romance. The PAYOFF would be said friend loses their shit when the coworkers actually get together (examples: Boyle in B99, Jacob in Abbott Elementary, Michael Scott in the Office, Schmidt for Nick and Jess in New Girl).

— setup: show actively sets up consequences to office / coworkers finding out about secret romance. PAYOFF: actual work consequences happen (ie, Ben and Lesley break up in parks and rec).

— setup: characters CONFESS THEIR FEELINGS to OTHER CHARACTERS in an ensemble cast so that the audience knows there are actual emotional stakes. PAYOFF: we get emotional insights and CLEAR emotional STAKES. (Ie, B99, Parks & Rec, New Girl, The Mindy Project).

— setup: you have two characters who want to be together but can’t due to [insert obstacles]. Unresolved tension continues to rise until characters can be together. (Ie, Castle, X Files, Alias, ER, Buffy, Once Upon a Time).

Every single move the Rookie has made this year has deflated each setup like a fucking pin in a balloon. — Lopez ribs Bradford about Lucy and in the end neither supposed bff brings up the romance again, save Lopez over some dumb radio message? (And we never get some confessional from Lucy to Nyla or anyone about how she pined for Tim in UC school, and all we get is some throwaway “*That* Bradford” one-liner?)

— Season One of Talia warning Lucy re: Nolan so they break up, to Seasons 2-4 of Lucy being a subordinate to Tim so nothing can happen, to Grey warning them about office romances, and in the end, we get ZERO reactions from any characters that they’re together and ZERO consequences to the relationship other than some mild Post-It wrangling?

— The unresolved tension that starts off with a bang in S1, ratchets up in S2 and complicates itself S3 and S4, never ACTUALLY gets addressed by Tim or Lucy confessing their actual feelings to each other? Just suddenly “if we do this” to “our kids will be xyz” in a few episodes?

I JUST DONT GET IT. I DONT UNDERSTAND setting up a storyline that could be SO FULL of juicy confessions, angst, longing, pining and just maybe ONE LITTLE SEXY SCENE FFS only to turn it into the MOST bland and milquetoast ship. I KNOW these characters can do hot and sassy and argumentative because we’ve seen it. They can definitely to angsty. But this whole we’re-going-to-dial -down-every-emotional-payoff-to-a-mild-5….like….to what end, writers? TO WHAT END?

July 4: Princess Mechanic, Blunt

A little character study of Raven and Clarke, set somewhere in an alternate-S4-era (less Drama, more Community Building, etc. etc.).

This was written for the prompt "Blunt and its antonyms (sharp, polite, subtle, tactful)" for July Break Bingo 2023 (@julybreakbingo).

The Engineering department has no use for politeness or tact, and Raven, steeped in this culture since her training began, has now risen to the top of its hierarchy. She sees tasks that need to be done and she gets them done. She gives orders. She is blunt.

She's found this language suits her well. No time wasted in reading between the lines or trying to gauge hidden meaning tucked away within tone. No uncertainty. More important than the efficiency is the comfort in it, how it creates something steady she can walk upon without wavering.

Recently, then, she's realized that she loves Clarke best when she is blunt, too. Usually, she drops the pretense and the politics only when her nerves are frayed, when she's particularly scared or especially frustrated, or when all her other tactics have run out and all that's left is blunt force. They've fought in those moods before. But there's a thrill in it and a clarity to the air after the emotions burn out. There's a frank and open expression to Clarke's eyes that feels like honesty and trust.

Makes Raven think they're getting somewhere, anyway.

Clarke sits on the council now. She's reached the top of her area of expertise, as Raven has, because of a unique and random confluence of tragedy and chance. Too many of the real adults are gone now. And competence matters more than age on the ground. They carry an experience that none of their elders ever will: the raw, straggling, clawing desperation of survival without resources, in the shadow of uncertainty, fear, and war. Can't make up for that with Earth Skills classes or computer simulations or instructions memorized from books. And anyway, the kids aren’t so young anymore.

So all of them are treated in a certain sense like royalty, or at least like a group set apart. The hundred. The forward guard, the remainder. Bringing on the changing of the generations a little early, heading sub-departments, departments, barking out instructions, standing in authority. She feels uncertain in the role sometimes herself, but at least when she's settled on a project, she knows her worth. From there it's not so hard to boss others around. Odder still is to see her friends, people she still thinks of as the underdogs, leading scouting teams or organizing farming projects or drawing up plans for new buildings. Making Arkadia over in their image.

When she catches sight of Clarke leaving council meetings, the oddest part is that the others are people Raven hardly knows. Yes, Clarke should be in charge. And only Clarke, and the people she trusts. She tramps down the hall with such confidence, her chin up, her expression unreadable.

In council meetings, she speaks with precision, mixed in with authority: assured but polite. Tactful, always. There's just a certain way, she's explained, that things get done, and it has to do with not making enemies. Really it has to do, Raven thinks, with playing people like fiddles. Reading their weaknesses, exploiting them. That's what Clarke's an expert in, more than anything else; Raven's seen it in her in their quietest moments, the way Clarke's eyes search hers, the long silences gathering up in the dusk, the careful way she picks out all her words. Her voice grows quiet, confessional, and soft. Time moves slow. Her hands squeeze Raven's so tightly, she's sure all the meaning in the world fits there in the press of skin against skin. Some illegible meaning in a language no one's ever taught her, because damn, it was never this complicated with Finn.

A solid week of unclouded skies and strong sun has baked the muddy paths of the settlement into cracked, hard dirt, when the latest trading mission sets out from Arkadia. Raven approaches the Rover just as Clarke is packing the last of the bags in the back. Clarke smiles when she catches sight of her, a genuine, bright smile that erases the tight furrows previously etched across her brow.

"Are you coming?" she asks.

"To talk diplomacy with a bunch of Grounders?" Raven rolls her eyes. She stops up short just next to the Rover, leans all her weight on her stronger leg, her hand against the dusty, hot metal of the back door. For a moment, she takes Clarke in as if she were trying to memorize her. "Not really my thing."

"Just wanted to see us off?"

See you off, Raven thinks. One of them should say it, but she shrugs. "I know you're not leaving yet, but I didn't want to miss you."

"We might get an early start."

Clarke's good with the Grounders, most of the time—not good like Octavia is, inserting herself, mutating herself, becoming one of them—she's not adept at their culture and she never cedes ground. But she's good at finding what the other side wants and then granting it for a price: the definition of negotiation and bargaining. If Raven could be bought, now, what would be the cost? She rolls the question around in her mind, wondering all at once if it's ever crossed Clarke's.

She reaches out her hand and slides her palm against Clarke's, and Clarke links their fingers with a tight, protective hold. Just say it. Just say it. I'll miss you; I want you. You should come, so that you can be with me.

Clarke's smile has softened, faded, the expression around her eyes now wistful and sad. Then she squeezes Raven's hand extra tight, and leans in, and kisses her once, not quite on the lips. "I'll see you," she promises, "when I get back," and the words could mean anything at all.

i will NOT know peace until st replicates the absolute RUSH of adrenaline everyone felt during the van-flip scene in s1. the sheer excitement and vindication i felt in that scene is something i feel the show has never been able to produce again and i want them to return to that minimal style of depicting el’s (and will’s fingers crossed) powers in s5 because it feels so much more REAL

Ben/Hurley

EYES OPENED. Ben/Hurley s4 and in s5 they're like Sawyer/Juliet...... JVSBIBIABIA

Okay but i imagine them as slowwwwww burn, after years on the island Ben develops a crush on Hurley. Hurley doesn't see it at all. Maybe a few years later Hurley is like oh Ben is kind of.....and then they're both unknowingly pining. Hurley is oblivious to Ben's crush and Ben doesn't know why Hurley gets extra sweaty around him. I don't know what would get them together because I don't think they'd have a big confessional scene...unless one of them almost died. Maybe Hurley's taking a nap and Ben thinks he's dead and starts in on a Pride and Prejudice level monologue. Maybe Michael is sick of the past 5 years of pining and tells Hurley to do something about it. Maybe Michael and Walt plot to trick them into a romantic date. I just know it happens eventually. Hell, maybe after they both die. When Ben finally comes into the church, watching Alex grow up for the five hundredth time. Hurley's just glad to see him, and the I Love You So Much stumbles out. And it's a ridiculously long wait, but it's finally happened.

height: 5'7 or 1.7m

fave music: I mostly listen to indie rock, indie folk, folk, some indie country rock, indie pop, basically just a lot of indie stuff also lots of queer artists and some pop (Robyn, Carley Rae, etc)

followers: 5.2k but I'm pretty sure like 80% of that is a graveyard of fandoms past and tumblr pre-2018 porn ban. But I love every one of y'all, even if you haven't been on here in years.

amount of sleep: I aim for at least 7 and usually get closer to 5. I have insomnia (fun!) and my partner snores so that's a struggle for me

what are you wearing: I'm currently in a sweater for the Buffalo Beauts (a woman's hockey team from a now folded league) and sweatshorts - I haven't changed out of my pjs yet because it's thanksgiving here in canada and we have tomorrow off work so I'm not doing shit today.

dream job: darling I don't dream of labour. But actually I'd love to be an author or librarian or own a bookshop - just books.

language: English and now I'm trying to learn some french because it's easier to get good jobs or government jobs in canada if you're bilingual

random fact: Between 2011 and 2021 I lived in 15 different houses/apartments + couch surfed for about a year while I wanted for my immigration to process and I didn't want to have a lease. I sent this meme to a loooot of people in that year because I thought it was funny.

Couldn’t stop thinking about Lonnie saying things to Mike and Will that not only hurt Will put push little innocent who knows how self aware Mike further into the closet to himself.

And now I can’t stop thinking about that coming up in season 5. Really, I mean, it would be a totally logical mention in surrounding/the emotional confessional speech. Childhood friends to lovers is so often storytelling in its speeches. Almost a recap - remember when x? I should have known I/had feelings for you then.

And Lonnie’s car was in the Cali poster and his actor was at the s4 table read, so it isn’t so much of a stretch. And a mention of something like this that’s smoothly worked in could contribute to a great explanation of compulsory heterosexuality without taking up too much screen time with forced expositional explanation.
