Its so hard being a black women who likes fanfiction. Like there is just still so little representation. Even when things are “reader” they are coded for white people.

No one is running their fingers through my silky hair. Or brushing hair out of my eyes behind my ear. I have an afro and when I dont its in twists. Also, black women dont really let people touch or play in their hair.

I dont have pink nipples.

I dont blush. My skin will not turn red no matter how hard Im blushing.

Now I thought it was hard in the Peaky Fandom. But there are some amazing black fic writers here and likely more have emerged since I havent been active in the fandom for a few years.

#ok I need to rant #first half of the show I started to regret buying so many expensive tickets for HSLOT #because Harry seemed extremely disconnected and on #performer autopilot #I’d even say he looked bored and tired of yet another HSLOT tour show #the set list order didn’t really work well for me until the disco medley #that’s when I felt it got better bc it warmed the crowd and Harry up #but yeah he didn’t seem to be there much imo #(I’m hyper sensitive to this tho so it might not be as dramatic as I experienced it) #the crowd was pretty dead #there was literally no applause after fine line #bc everyone cried #and it made the encore break super awkward #but #BUT he caught my flag during TPWK and ran with it!!! #AND we had a lil dancey dance pointy point during sushi I think it was #but yeah idk #I experienced Harry in Berlin last year and these two shows were like a million miles apart

said i may rant ab emily axford and i will. it could just be the people i'm following, but i haven't seen as much love for doomsday diaries as her naddpod music! and i'm obsessed with doomsday diaries! it honestly might be my desert island album. it's so fucking good. i cannot say how much i love it.

not only are the songs so fucking good, they tell a story! It's got plot! she wrote a cute-sounding apocalypse album with a whole ass storyline and i love it. just. listen to doomsday diaries for me.

below the cut, i will be ranting about specific songs because i can't not. i need to. in conclusion, emily fucking axford.

evacuation?? are you kidding me with the "wear comfortable shoes" being the last line of the first verse and of the whole song? AND AND "and don't bring the memories, delete and erase, they'll only hold you back, you haven't got the space" i want to scream that part. i want to scream the whole chorus. "there's too many ways, to protest and fight for, the better days" and then the lull of "but they're gone, you should be too" the contrast brings me pure joy. glee.

and one of my favorite songs ever. is this love or mass extinction. could quote whole verses. "the flirting and the phone calls, and that cataclysm" and "my heart is a kingdom, that's been pillaged and razed" and the "serendipity or global calamity?" come. on. i love this song. it's a song about having love so world-shattering and loving someone who has burned the world down. i can't express. it was the top song on my spotify wrapped with something like 125 listens. hours i have spend listening to this song.

i love love love love the beginning of grey goo. "2023 and a biotech named steve, fueled by good intentions and a curiosity" i want to type out all of these songs in their entirety, but this is a highlights reel ok. "i look at all your freckles and your dimples and and your scars, the colors and the shapes that made you who you are, let the robots turn our every cell into their skin, but i will never forget the landscape of your skin" an entire verse because. "but i will never forget the landscape of your skin." again, could give the whole song. so good.

robot rebellion. the dancey lil dance i do to this song. upbeat and pretty to have lines like "'cause i am not afraid to die, long as you're here by my side" and "so go ahead and do your worst, 'cause i ain't givin' in without a fight" and the last verse! sometimes i wish i could better eloquate just how expressive ryu is. like i'm always talking about how she scrunches her nose a lot when she laughs and i often compare it to like, looking at the sun. just flushed and squinting, but so free. when she's squealing and screaming mid rant whenever she's excited doing her little delighted dancey-dance because she doesn't even have words anymore so its easier to just yell. i genuinely enjoy writing her excited and raving about whatever she's hyperfixated on. like i know i write a lot of introspection about her troubles, but its because that's like not as easily readable as her just general sunny personality, she's just so fun and loud. and i like being able to write her silliness.

it’s me , 🫧 anon , i tried to resist from ranting but I’ve been holding it in since all the fics came out. Omg , i would not have kept calm like the reader. I get so mad for her . Like it’s all sunshine and rainbows on the outside for the fushiguros but idkkkk. Maybe they’re past relationship was but the foundation of their new relationship was built on the downfall of reader. They knowingly fucked her over. Not only was she destroyed emotionally but financially once her baby was involved , cause i do remember you saying she had to work two jobs. Who knows how tired she must have been cause being a single mom with two jobs isn’t easy. While Toji leaving was a wake up call for her in a way because he wasn’t fully 100% there, he isn’t going to be 100% for megumis mom since reader was there , Plus her son. uGH don’t get me started of megumis mom , i can’t. I cANT… i will. The woman knew what she was doing when she came back , knew the out come , and while she felt guilty about it , it doesn’t change the fact that she still did it. It would have been fine to idk at least see her son that she left behind but she took everything from reader. I can’t really overlook it , especially with how readers son was treated. She treated him differently enough for him to notice at such a young age. It wasn’t right for her to project on to a child for a problem she had caused and uGH ,Toji not doing enough to stop it. i didn’t wanna say it back then but like lowkey , she’s one of the main reasons he lost his son , Toji being the number reason he lost his own son but she’s right behind him. It makes me sad to think everytime he had to go see Toji he just wanted to go back home to reader. Like even megumi , at an older age did nothing, onLY HELPED HIM PACK WHILE FEELING BAD 😵‍💫I’ll stop here cause idk if i should keep going or not BUT, what I will say is that im glad reader found gojo cause he gave her 100% and more. The gojos will want to be with each other till the next life time while to fushiguros are stuck with the “what ifs” .

Okay, look, we all know Viva Las Vengeance is a whole…. something that isn’t quite Panic! At The Disco, nor is it anything particularly amazing either because Brendon can’t write for shit, but I think one aspect in which we can cut it some slack is the beautiful musical disaster that is:

What could possibly be the saving grace for this astronomical fuckup of a song?

Well, you’re absolutely right in that it is an underwhelming absolute lack of an orgasm after chafing your genitals for a fucking hour, but dear god, in a way, doesn’t that make SENSE? Look, we know Brendon Urine didn’t do it on purpose at all cuz, you know, he’s a dumb cunt and not a 5’1 autistic man hoarding literature degrees like a useless dragon hoards gloves for hands it doesn’t have. But if he HAD done it on purpose, Sad Clown could have been recognised as a satisfyingly UNsatisfying metaphor for, well, unsatisfying…ness.

Consider:

"I pop a pill to feel euphoria. Five minutes, ten minutes, to a half an hour, But not the rest of my life."

And

"Even though I'm smiling, I'm crying. I'm sick and tired of trying, I'm dying. Is this all there is?"

In a badly done, even babygirlification somewhat, of the Hey Ya theme of sad lyrics on a preppy dance tune (and look, I never said the lyrics were good), we can extrapolate the story being told here; ex-lovers, one, Maggie presumably, has moved on quite happily whereas our protagonist has not, though he puts on a front of happiness and copes with drugs, and while the drugs may give him a temporary relief, he knows that he cannot rely on this permanently.

How does this make a shit song a good song?

In an overly analysed close-reading of the music, which I am absolutely qualified to do because I took music theory class for one year in highschool and I'm a man on the internet, I can conclude that this song just doesn't have a chorus? Sure, Urine tried, but if you actually ignore the urge to do a dancey dance and listen for like two secs, you'll realise that the "chorus" is just a whole lotta buildup with no payoff. Bridges, no chorus. Chafing, no orgasm, whatever fucking analogy you wanna roll with. We literally get like three bridges in a row:

"Five minutes, ten minutes, to a half an hour For the rest of my life."

I call this the pre-bridge. It's different to the verse, and we get a sense of "change is coming" in the dropping of the notes towards the end of the bar, and even the general softer, more emotive tone in Urine's voice in "For the rest of my life," however this isn't yet a bridge in the same way most of us would recognise one.

"Leave me alone (a paliacciao triste) Leave me alone (he not so molto bene)."

Bridge 1: Huge musical buildup in the drum, the dropout of other instruments (again, a common indication of "get ready, it's coming!") and the inclusion of the backup singers singing the goofiest fucking shit I've ever read in my life.

"Your majesty's magnificent. My tragedy is imminent. Even though I'm smiling, I'm crying, I shall win."

Bridge 2: Oh, another bridge? I mean, it COULD have been a chorus, but its that last line where we get basically exactly the same musicality of the first bridge, but louder, and man I'm on the edge of my seat. I'm waiting for the climax, I'm rearing to fucking GO.

Where the fuck is the chorus, Urine? Because I sure as shit didn't hear one! I feel like I'm back four years in time with my ex who had the weakest dick game I've ever seen in someone without erectile dysfuction.

And then that ending too. He screeches that last note (and this is the only comment I'll make on Urine's actual singing capabilities because that's a whole other rant for another day) and then everything just... dies. And not even in a satisfactory way. No fade out, no sharp sudden stop; it gives the vibe of the orchestra awkwardly realising the conductor's stopped and is glaring at the trombones.

It is unsatisfying

BUT IT FUCKING WORKS.

AND I'M SO MAD THAT IT WORKS.

Literally an entire song about dissatisfaction, faking pleasure/happiness, relying on temporary highs that ultimately never amount to anything, AND IT IS MOST UN-FUCKING-SATISFYING SHIT I'VE EVER LISTENED TO.

tech week rants n rambles yall know the drill

things that are sparking joy right now:

props crew bc at my friends' theater, her props crew is like, evil. and our props crew is GREAT!! shout out to props i love them!!

how amazing collignon's mother and father look together. like their costumes are so european grandparentcore it's actually insane. they look great and they have great dynamic. plus it's fun to quick change their wigs

we did 5 songs today bringing our speed up to 1.42 songs per hour!!

some actors are so speedy with their quick changes like shout out to our Bretodeau/Collignon's Father/Adrien for playing every character ever and being so great about turning every single one of his changes from a 4 person job to a 1 person job

when the booth goes bright is officially the serotonin song because of the little dancey dances that the cast does, it's the most dancey number in the show and i'm in the process of learning it so i can dance to it in the wings

adding to the thing above, if you know the lyrics there's a bit about the girl from the factory and we have 2 dancers doing that whole bit as a piece of choreo while nino sings about it
