New Canada Walmart Tamagotchi Original Store Display
Tumblr media
The Tamagotchi Original is no stranger to Walmart shelves, even in Canada. However what is new is the recent Tamagotchi Original displays that are being featured in Walmart locations throughout Canada. Biancadrawz on Instagram spotted this new store display on an end cap of an aisle in the toy department of their Walmart in Ontario Canada.
The display is in purple, features the legacy Tamagotchi logo at this top which is rather interesting since the rebrand has been out for quite some time now, and fits plenty of Tamagotchi Originals! Have you seen this display at your local Walmart?

Zophobas Darkling Beetle (Superworm) - Zophobas morio
There's just something about today that warrants the showcase of "worms" and this particular specie of Darkling Beetle. Of course, the "worms" here aren't actual worms (referring to Annelids), there are the larval form of the armored individuals. This specie has already been covered before in detail; these pictures are actually part of the same set from a previous December post, so the information provided there also applies here. Although larvae and adults live together in the same terrarium, the latter will not eat the former. At least not while food is plentiful and there are no carcasses from expired Superworms to consider. Larvae however, are much more likely to eat each other, especially if some molt into defenseless pupae. Under the circumstances here, they aren't likely to molt while food and water are plentiful and many larvae are clustered together. Only when isolated from each other or placed in a secure environment will a larva turn into a pupa.
There are none here, but the Z. morio pupa are brownish-white, shrimp-shaped pupa and they eventually metamorphose into the adult Beetles you see before you. It's a staggering change, but the insect world is full of many astounding transformations as larvae/nymphs grow large, mature, and sprout wings. While the adult Beetles is heavily armored and can move around with greater locomotion, security and grip, they do lose certain advantages from their time as larvae. They can easily wriggle and navigate through the earth (or wood chips here), fit into small tunnels without needing to chew and expand them, and contour themselves along a surface as sleek-formed grubs. While these advantages may be missed, what is gained in adulthood (including the abilities to fly and reproduce) is more than worth it. If they would be told what was in store for them by an insect "Herald of the Change", would they accept?
Pictures were taken on December 19, 2023 with a Google Pixel 4. Check out the many insects of the Royal Ontario Museum if you happen to be in town.

A/N; so this is the first chapter of the serie "We never go out of style" with Willy Styles - I hope you enjoy it, and that the jokes make somewhat sense as they did in my head ;)

“I don't need a man to make me feel good”
As September arrived, Julia strolled leisurely through the streets of Toronto, enjoying the taste of her coffee, thinking about how her time in the city had been nothing short of amazing.
Even though her best friend Camille had returned to London, Julia's new work team had warmly welcomed her, especially her close colleague, Charlie, who had gone out of her way to make her feel at home. Julia and Charlie had quickly formed a strong bond, and Charlie's extroverted nature led them to explore Toronto's hidden gems together - the best bars, restaurants, museums, gardens, and galleries.
Charlie strongly reminded Julia of Camille. They were both tall (well, taller than her 5'2", which pretty much anyone was), naturally fit, with light-coloured hair, and had a vibrant energy. Charlie worked as a project coordinator in Julia’s team and had been with the firm for a couple of years, starting out as a student assistant. Although a couple of years younger than Julia, Charlie made an effort to introduce her properly to the city.
One weekend, they set out for the Toronto Islands. The ferry ride had been pleasant, with the shimmering waters of Lake Ontario reflecting the sunlight, creating a mesmerising sight. Once they reached the islands, they hired bicycles and began their adventure.
The islands offered a serene escape, with lush greenery, picturesque beaches, and panoramic views of the city's skyline. Julia and Charlie cycled through quaint neighbourhoods, passing charming cottages and beautifully landscaped gardens. Along the way, they shared funny anecdotes, childhood memories, and aspirations for the future.
As they reached a particularly secluded part of the islands, they found a spot by the water to have their picnic. Julia had prepared an assortment of delicious sandwiches, fresh fruits, and homemade lemonade. They laughed, ate, and simply enjoyed each other's company as the waves gently lapped against the shore.
*
September 17th
It was Charlie's 25th birthday, and she had planned a night out with Julia, some colleagues, and a few of her girlfriends at a bar in Downtown Toronto. Charlie generously offered to buy the first round, and then everyone could choose their drinks freely. As it was a busy Saturday night, she had reserved a few tables in the back, ensuring the group could relax and enjoy games like darts and pool.
During the summer, Charlie had spent some time with her parents and had an unexpected encounter with her childhood friend, Mitch. Although they had grown apart over the years, their recent conversations had brought them back together. They had met up a few times since they both lived in the same city, and Charlie even extended an invitation to her birthday, although she wasn't sure if he'd make it due to his busy schedule.
Inside the bar, the atmosphere was lively, with music, laughter, and cheering filling the room. Julia was having a great time, effortlessly beating Mark and Scott at darts, probably thanks to her English upbringing. Meanwhile, Charlie made rounds, ensuring everyone was enjoying themselves.
"Oh my god! Miiiiitchy!" Charlie exclaimed when she suddenly spotted Mitch, the tall, brunette guy from her past, walking into the bar with a group of friends. "I didn’t think you’d come," she added as she greeted him with enthusiasm, hugging him warmly and flashing a big smile.
"Of course, I did! Wouldn’t miss it. Oh, and by the way, this is from my mom," he said, handing her a small-sized box.
Mitch had brought her a small gift, and Charlie graciously thanked him, sending her best regards to his mother.
"Guys, this is my friend Charlie," Mitch then introduced her to his group, as he stood there with three other guys. One of them seemed a bit puzzled, but Charlie couldn't help but notice how exceptionally good-looking he was. With his semi-long, dark hair slightly curled under his cap, tanned skin with a hint of Hispanic features, and a charming moustache and scruff, he exuded a unique appeal. He was dressed in a loose shirt paired with tight dark trousers, a thin jacket, and trainers. Charlie couldn't deny the magnetic attraction she felt toward him.
"She's not a dude…” the guy remarked to the others, causing laughter from his friends.
"Wow, quite the way to offend a girl in just five syllables," Charlie retorted playfully, joining in on the laughter.
"Sorry," he apologised, offering a nervous smile.
"Don't worry; it happens more often than you’d think," Charlie reassured him with a wink, sharing a moment of amusement. Just then, Mitch chimed in to introduce the guys.
"Char, you probably already know their names, but this is Auston, Mo, and Willy," Mitch said, and Charlie greeted them enthusiastically.
Indeed, she knew who they were; she wasn't oblivious to the world - being Canadian, she was well aware of some of the best hockey players in the NHL. She had also discreetly followed Mitch's career over the years, even though they hadn't been in touch for quite some time.
"Nice to meet you. Come on, have a drink or something," Charlie invited, gesturing for them to join the group. "Hey, JJ, there's someone I want you to meet," she called out to someone else.
'JJ,' William thought, his mind racing. No, it couldn't be... or could it? Oh, yes, it definitely could.
As she turned around from the other group, there she stood with her long blonde, curled hair, radiant smile, and those captivating big blue eyes. "Shit," William chuckled to himself, caught off guard by seeing her again. He hadn't exactly expected this kind of reunion.
"Hey," Julia greeted as Charlie motioned for her to join the group.
Immediately, she recognised William as well. How could she not? They had shared a great time at the bar, followed by an intimate session in her bedroom. Seeing him again with his beachy, blonde hair, Balenciaga t-shirt, and that smirk on his face brought back both memories and mixed feelings. He seemed amused by the situation, but Julia wasn't sure how to feel about seeing him again. He was undeniably attractive, and that smirk stirred up feelings she probably shouldn't indulge.
"So, this is my new colleague and very good friend, Julia, who’s just moved here from London," Charlie introduced to the lads, and they all greeted her.
"JJ, these guys here are probably the most important people for you to know about when living here," she then pointed out each of the lads - Auston Matthews, Mitch Marner, Morgan Reilly, and William Nylander - explaining that they were the greatest hockey stars of the Toronto Maple Leafs. The lads chuckled at Charlie's praise.
“It’s a pleasure to meet you,” Julia said with an excited expression.
“Well, come on, have a seat and a drink if you’d like,” Charlie said loudly.
They all took a seat at the tables while the others continued playing games. Julia made eye contact with the barman who almost immediately came over to take their orders, and the lads opted for fizzy drinks, mindful of their ongoing training.
“It’s a nice place you've chosen, Char,” Mitch remarked as he sat down in front of her with Auston to his right and Mo on his left.
“Thanks, it’s basically our go-to place whenever we go out,” Charlie smiled. “JJ used to go out for after-work beers back home, and so we’ve sort of adopted that into our team.”
"So, how do you like Toronto so far?" Morgan asked Julia, sitting across from her.
"Well, so far, everyone's been very welcoming and great - and it's an incredible city, so it's truly all good," she smiled.
"But the most important thing is that JJ will attend her very first NHL game next month," Charlie chimed in, sparking curiosity among the group.
"Oh, cool! When?" Mitch asked.
"It's the home opening game, right?" Julia said, looking at Charlie, who nodded.
“Yes, it's my welcoming slash birthday present,” Charlie added, garnering further interest from the lads.
"When's your birthday?" William suddenly asked from Julia’s right side.
"The 7th, next month," she responded with a soft smile, and the lads nodded.
"And how young, if we may ask?" Mo teased, and Julia laughed.
"27," she said confidently, "no worries, I have no issues with my age," which earned more laughs from the group. William couldn't help but smile, realising she was just slightly older than him, which he found amusing for some unknown reason.
“And do you know anything about hockey?” Auston asked from the opposite corner of the table, and Julia chuckled.
“Well, a little bit actually - or maybe just the basics of the basics,” she replied chuckling. She shared that her younger brother, Daniel, played hockey for a hobby, but she had only seen a couple of games herself.
“I didn’t know hockey was a big thing in England,” Mitch stated.
"It's not," Julia smiled, "but when Daniel was 8, he moved with our dad back to Denmark after our parents' divorce. And he played serious hockey there for some years before a bad ankle injury," she explained, capturing the lads' attention.
"Wait, you're from Denmark?" Auston asked with curiosity.
"Well, my dad is Danish, and I was born there, but I grew up in England,” Julia clarified with a friendly smile.
Auston then mentioned their best friend, Freddie, who used to play for the Leafs and also hailed from Denmark.
“Oh yeah, Frederik Andersen, right?” She asked, and they nodded confirming. “Yeah, he was like the first thing my father mentioned when I told him I was moving to Toronto - before he asked me about my promotion, of course,” she chuckled, and the lads responded with laughter.
"Maybe we should introduce you to him sometime," Mitch playfully suggested, and Julia eagerly agreed.
“And actually,” Charlie said, “Willy here is also from Scandinavia,” she told and pointed to William. “Sweden, right?” William nodded, offering Julia a friendly smile.
“Which is definitely not the same as Denmark,” he said jokingly.
“Oh, I couldn’t agree more,” Julia added, and they shared a moment of amusement as they all laughed.
“Let me guess, none of you would understand each other,” Mitch joked from across the table. They both shook their head chuckling causing laughter from the others.
As the night progressed, the playful banter continued, and Julia felt a sense of ease and comfort among the lads. They were all very sociable and outgoing, so she easily felt included in their conversations about hockey, their off-season, and how Charlie and Mitch shared stories from their childhood.
And as Julia laughed and smiled at the group's joking behaviour, William found himself drawn to her warmth and confidence. Her kindness and gentle touches had left an impression on him, and he couldn't deny that he still found her intriguing.
The initial tension had dissipated, and William actively participated in the banter, occasionally sharing flirty glances with Julia. There was a connection between them, but it wasn't overtly sexual. And no one else seemed to notice.
Julia had let go of any hard feelings towards William quite some time ago. Not that there was much to forgive, but she had felt a little hurt after he’d left. So, seeing him tonight was a bit of a surprise. But he did seem to be nice, and she found his charm enjoyable; his laughter was infectious and the way he playfully chatted with the rest of the guys simply made her feel comfortable around him.
In the meantime, a few of Charlie's other friends had left the party, while a few stayed, either joining the group at the table or heading to the dance floor.
Clara, one of their colleagues, approached the table and sat down between Mo and William, across from Julia. "So, Charlie, have you heard about JJ's secret lover?” she playfully asked.
Julia momentarily froze, recalling she had mentioned spending a night with a guy but hadn't exactly told that it was the gentleman sitting right beside her.
"Oh yeah, she mentioned him," Charlie chuckled, raising her eyebrows a few times, "Mr. Mystery."
Julia could sense William listening attentively from the corner of her eye, sensing that they were talking about him.
"So, JJ, are we ever gonna hear more about this mysterious gentleman and maybe even meet him?" Clara asked with a grin.
Julia tried to remain composed and replied nonchalantly, "Well, I don't think he'd be up for it. Besides, I don't even know that much about him."
William couldn't help but find amusement in the situation. Julia seemed to be handling it well, trying to downplay the encounter.
"I don't care, I wanna know who this guy is, who's the best sex you've ever had," Clara said, perhaps a bit too loudly, causing Julia to cringe inwardly. William had to suppress a smirk, knowing exactly what Clara was unknowingly talking about.
"The best one-night stand I've ever had," Julia corrected with a playful grin. "But, you know, he left without saying a word or leaving his number, so it doesn’t really matter.”
"Oh, come on! What's his name? We'll find him on social media," Clara persisted.
"We can't, believe me, I've tried," Charlie chimed in. "Do you know how many Wills there are in Toronto?” she chuckled, and Clara laughed along.
At that moment, William had a small internal realisation. Julia had told Charlie she couldn't really remember the guy's name, just that it might have been "Will or something." She had felt a bit embarrassed and hurt when recounting the one-night stand to Charlie and simply wanted to move past it.
He caught Julia's look, noticing her feeling a bit reserved. She simply gave the girls a soft smile, trying to ease the situation.
"Anyways, it's probably for the best," she said calmly, and the girls nodded in agreement.
"Yeah, a guy leaving a total babe like that must be out of his mind," Charlie added with confidence and encouragement. Julia chuckled at her supportive words, aware that William had heard every bit of the conversation.
**
After a short while, they all felt like having another drink, and the lads agreed to have one more before heading out. As Julia went to the bar to order, William took the opportunity to approach her and offer his help in carrying the drinks. She smiled warmly as he approached, but there was a hint of nervousness in her voice as she asked what he was doing.
"Just wanted to help out," William replied simply.
They stood there in silence for a moment before he broke it.
“So… I’m the best sex you’ve ever had?” he said, and Julia couldn’t help but smile and roll her eyes at him.
“Best one-night stand,” she corrected again, “there’s a difference.”
“Oh really,” he chuckled, “well maybe we can do it again? Then it wouldn’t be a one-night stand, and it’d just be the best sex ever,” he winked.
“You're such a cheeky bastard,” Julia said with a grin, slightly rolling her eyes at him again.
“Well - it was great, right?" he stated more than asked.
“It was,” Julia admitted with a soft smile, although she couldn't help but remember waking up slightly disappointed when William had left during the night.
"So, maybe we can repeat the success?” William playfully suggested.
Julia had to restrain herself from saying 'yes' immediately. The truth was it had been amazing with William. She might even have to admit that it indeed had been the best she’d ever had. But a part of her also knew that if she took him home tonight, she could potentially be putting herself in the same hurtful situation again.
William seemed like the type of guy who wasn’t used to getting a ‘no’ from women. He could probably have any girl he wanted and discard them just as easily. Those deep, ocean blue eyes of his had a mesmerising effect on her, and that's what had made her feel vulnerable in the first place. So, she decided that she needed to protect herself. She couldn't afford to let William's charm have this kind of power over her, so it was best for her to resist the temptation and keep their encounter from becoming more.
"No," she replied, chuckling lightly.
William looked a bit puzzled, wondering if he had misread the situation.
Julia leaned in closer to him, her tone softening. "It was great,” she said offering him a friendly smile, "but it was a one-time thing… You made that clear when you sneaked out in the middle of the night," she added with a wink before paying for the drinks and walking away from the bar, drinks in hand.
William stood there, slowly realising that his hasty departure had left a little mark on Julia. While he knew it had only been a one-night stand, he also understood that his actions might have come across as cold and inconsiderate.
He let out a sigh, watching her walk away, before he returned to the table with the other drinks and re-joined the current conversation.
After finishing their drinks, Mitch and Mo were the first to leave, giving Charlie a hug and wishing her a Happy Birthday once again.
Auston tried to play it cool, not wanting to reveal his interest in spending some time alone with Charlie, so he nonchalantly mentioned that he'd stay for a bit longer. Julia chuckled lightly, seeing through his act, finding it amusing.
And about 10 more minutes passed before Julia indicated that she'd head home as well. William, who had just returned from the men's room, had had the same thought.
Julia hugged Charlie goodbye and then turned to Auston, offering him a friendly smile.
"Be nice to her," she said, giving him a small wink, to which Auston nodded, chuckling in response.
As they stepped out onto the street, William turned to Julia.
“So, how drunk are you?” He asked. The question caught her off guard, but she just gave him a soft smile.
"Not drunk at all, actually. I only had a couple of drinks," she replied. "Why?"
"Just wanted to know if you needed help getting home safely," William said with a soft smirk. "No funny business, I promise," he added, making Julia chuckle a bit.
"Thanks, Wonderboy, but I'm okay," she said. "I'm a big, tough girl, you know - I can tie my own shoes and all," she added with a small wink.
William chuckled and nodded before they went their separate ways.
***
Over the following weeks, Charlie and Julia were rather tied up with work. They were facing an impending deadline, so it was all hands on deck.
Julia had been devoting quite a bit of time with her boss, Andrew, who was a recently separated 35-year-old father of two: Tyler at 8 and Phoebe at 6. He was a busy man as well, so Julia had been offering him a helping hand with his children whenever the department was overloaded with work.
Julia thoroughly enjoyed spending time with Tyler and Phoebe. They were full of energy and a lot of fun; and fortunately, they were also well-behaved. Having a niece of her own, she genuinely embraced playing the role of the fun aunt. And it did seem to be of great help to Andrew, which also made Julia’s workdays much smoother when he wasn't all stressed out and uptight.
Julia naturally also had to FaceTime Camille from time to time, and she had spilled the tea about her second encounter with William. Camille had been baffled hearing about it, but she also found it quite amusing. If anyone knew Julia well, it was Camille. They had lived together for 3 years before they both moved to London, where Julia then moved in with her boyfriend at the time; Ezra. They had developed a close connection over the years, sharing their most embarrassing moments and deepest thoughts and secrets.
Furthermore, Charlie and Julia had also spent a lot of time driving around the city and countryside. Julia had been exhilarated to experience the Canadian nature, which Charlie gladly tagged along to show her. And they were the perfect duo for road trips; Julia loved to drive, and Charlie was a true passenger princess.
In between all the hard work and road journeys, Charlie had also managed to spend some more time with Mitch and his fiancée, Stephanie, who had extended invitations for brunch and coffee to Julia, which she had warmly embraced.

@swampthing07 that oc lore you asked for..
Tumblr media
apologies for the buttload of paragraphs tee hee
The green haired one is Florence (she/her, transfem) and the brown haired one is nicky (they/he, nonbinary transmasc). they live in a (fictional) town in southern ontario and are so silly :3
They were over at florence's house cuddling on an august evening when Florence heard the door open, and she assumed it was her mom back from grocery shopping, so her and Nicky when downstairs to help put away the groceries, but when they went down, it was just a weird, skinny brown haired dude who was covered in dirt and crying. He looked terrified when he saw them, and only pointed to the window when they asked him what was happening. Nicky looked through the window, and immediately closed the curtains, because there was ...something... Out there. It was a man, but he was covered in something black and goopy, sticks, leaves, and he looked like his skin was melting. Florence freaked out and called her mom, but didn't get a response at all. Nicky grabbed her phone and saw that she had multiple missed calls from her family, who lived a twenty minute drive away, so she wasn't likely to be seeing them soon. She didn't wanna go outside with.... That.
By this point, the man, David, had calmed down long enough to explain what he knew. The man outside was his fiance, Evan, who'd gone missing a month ago. David had run into him at the grocery store earlier in the day, and Evan looked horrid. Covered in sweat, sticks, leaves, and goo. He didn't look himself at all. David had taken him home immediately, but Evan was practically catatonic. David took him to the hospital, and Evan was taken to a specific ward, and David was forbidden from seeing him. After over an hour of waiting, he crept in, and what he saw horrified him. Evan wasn't human. At least, not anymore. Whatever that thing was, it wasn't his boyfriend.
David left the hospital as fast as he could, but felt like something was following him. He went back home to his apartment and locked the doors, but he couldn't shake the feeling that something was wrong. He fell into a fitful sleep, and when he woke up, there was something at his door. He slowly pulled it open, and... it was not-evan. David slammed the door, but the thing was brutally strong, and forced it open. David managed to get away, but his car was totaled. He ended up on a bus, bound to god-knows-where, and ended up in Florence's town. He could feel the things presence, and when he got off the bus, it leapt off the roof anf chased him. that's how he ended up in her house.
At this point, Florence is freaking out. Her mom won't answer and, as it gets darker, there seem to be more... Things. Seems like David is going to be staying the night.

Hello hi 👋 if you are willing to indulge me I would love to hear any and all of your Canadian Greg thoughts!!
I am also a Canadian Greg truther but I live in America so I can’t imagine the full extent of what it means for him to be a Canadian boy™
Ooooohhhh hell yeah I love to share the Good Word about Canadian Greg at least from my thoughts
while I tend to tweak his background based on the specific fic I am writing here in there, I really truly believe Greg has moved around a lot in his life. I like to think in fact he's got American citizenship/was probably born there but after his dad (presumably) left after he (presumably) cheated on Greg's mother, they moved back to Canada so Marianne could be closer to Ewan (for better or for worse considering Ewan is....... kinda a dick imo) and now he's a dual-citizen, always an interloper, never quite Canadian enough but not quite settled into American culture.
Partially due to my own experience I think he grew up mostly in Ontario, he doesn't come across as, like, Quebecois to me tho neither do Ewan or Logan despite canonically being raised there so uh you know, and I only ever spent 5 weeks in Quebec myself. but, French Canadian peoples tend to be connected to their Francophone identities in my experience with Acadians and other Francophones in other areas of Ontario, so yeah i mean idk. It's not impossible but he feels more Ontarian, I could see some Western hcs but I've never been further West so like........... i stick him in Ontario bc it's what I know better.
On that, I think he speaks passable but not excellent French with an Okay accent, he likes and knows hockey, has a variety of Canadian slang he doesn't pull out around his US folks. He likes colour-coded Canadian money because it's easier, dammit.
I also like to imagine him spending a bit of time in small town Atlantic Canada, that is the epitome of self-indulgence for Me because that's where my own actual experience mostly lies. He has some random factoids about fishing. I like to imagine he did Little Rocks which is a curling program for kids, he was almost definitely a Scout (he might have moved to Canada young enough to be a Beaver Scout🥺) and he knows, how to safely start a fire and camping basics (i think he prefers to stay in a cabin to a tent tho lmfao), and I believe he genuinely likes some outdoorsy activities, such as hiking, but also wants to be able to retreat to a comfortable area and not be left out in the rain or anything like that.
I think he was raised Catholic which could be anywhere lmao and knows how to hunt but doesn't love it (which I think it was said he did in the scripts in Hunting, as well as Tom, but I can't recall?). I think he made friends that always felt temporary, he was often the new kid and always the weird gawky guy, but he got along with some people even if he was sometimes the butt of the joke too. He did stupid shit like putting hairspray on his hands and letting other guys light it on fire, partially to fit in and partially because "What's the worst that could happen". Not necessarily exclusive to Canada but I knew these guys irl. So.
One of the things I've noticed that is a big difference between Canadians and US Americans is we don't mythologize or adore our founders the way they do. Unsure impact that has on Greg, but part of me likes to do a little excusing for him, that he rationalizes meddling with American politics and the landscape of the News using the idea that it's not his "Real home", even though he knows damn well the US impacts Canada in a huge way. It's another one of his many excuses, like, "it's not my fault, i'll get in trouble if I don't, i need a job to survive and this one is as good as any" etc.
Finally. Another one of my Greg headcanons despite having 0 evidence canonically and in fact evidence against it to an extent- he likes a good graphic tee. Most of them are stored at his mother's. Most importantly, he owns this:
Tumblr media
which i photographed in a real Canadian walmart.

Bra Fitting at Torrid
So, I have always wanted to have a correct bra fitting done. This is my amazing journey.
If I am going to be investing some money into clothing including bras, lingerie and other women’s clothing, I feel that having the correct bra size is important. I started looking around the internet for different stories and saw what other crossdressers had experienced. I guess that is a little of my OCD but if I am going to purchase anything, I have to do my research.
I should have saved the link but I found this amazing story of a crossdresser that found a boutique that helped her out. The owner was nice enough to open for him late after closing. She even asked an employee to stay a little late to help. They went through the whole process. Tried on a couple of different bras. The owner and employee gave their honest opinion. After the correct bra was chosen, they even let her try on some other sexy lingerie and even some shapewear.
After reading that story, I was determined to find a local store that could provide me with the same experience.
So a couple of weeks ago, I headed onto Google Maps and found the closest (some local and some in a neighboring town) independent lingerie/bra stores and started to contact them mostly by a carefully worded email. I started to get emails back slowly and I wasn’t very happy with what I was reading. Some of the responses included
“Unfortunately, as discreet and comfortable as I am, my services are provided for bodies with full bust or no busts due to breast cancer loss. I take my employ quite seriously & as a result, will advise that I’m not comfortable fitting you.”
Then I started to get some positive replies but lots of these stores don’t deal with larger or plus sized women.
“Based on your measurements, your size would be about a 40 or 42 A or B. Unfortunately, we have very limited options in those sizes, and what we do have are quite standard and simple looking.”
I contacted some of the more commercial lingerie stores but I knew that the majority of these stores would also have limited options available. So, in my location, Ontario, Canada, there are only a few women’s clothing stores that will cater to larger/plus sized customers and sell bras and lingerie. They are Reitmans, Penningtons and Torrid. We used to have Addition Elle stores but they were owned by Penningtons and closed back in August of 2021. I tried to use the customer support channel for these commercial stores but that didn’t lead me anywhere so I started to call the stores and talked to the Manager.
Tumblr media
My first store was Penningtons. I called and I talked to someone (I should have probably asked for the manager) and I was open and honest, I asked if they had ever done a bra fitting for a man and she said, “Nope but if you want to make an appointment, I think we can help you.” She thinks. No thanks. I wanted this to be discreet and something that they had done before.
Tumblr media
My second store was Reitmans. I called and asked to talk to the manager and/or assistant manager. I waited a few minutes and a lady came on the phone and introduced herself as the store's assistant manager. I asked her, "Do you carry plus size bras? For example, 40C."
"Yes, we do. We carry all the way up to a 54 DDD. Are you looking to buy a bra for someone?" I quickly replied back, "Yes, actually, it is for myself but I wanted to ask if you, or someone there would be able to get me a proper bra fitting? I have been told that I should be a 40C but I want to make sure."
And then the very long pause as I can picture the person on the other side of the phone picking their jaw up from the floor. And then she replied back, "Oh alright. I don't see that being a problem. Would you feel comfortable being in the store doing this?" I could hear a little reluctancy in her voice as she asked. I replied back, "I would want you and your customers to be comfortable too. Thank you and it is good to know that you can offer this service. I will be in touch." She said, "Thank you." and we ended the call.
That's not the response I was really looking for but at least I found a place that I thought I could go but I still had one more place to call.
Tumblr media
I called my local Torrid store in the local shopping mall. I don’t remember if I asked for the manager or not but a nice lady came on the phone and introduced herself as Tracy. I said “Hello Tracy. I am wondering if you or someone at your location has done a bra fitting for a man.” Her response was “Yeah. We have. All of the girls here have. Would you like to have a bra fitting?”
At that moment, I felt a sense of relief. A weight lifted off my shoulders. She was honest and confident in her answer which brought me a sense of calm. I replied back, “Yes I would but I want to be discreet. I don’t want to upset your customers or your staff.” She completely understood and she appreciated me mentioning that. She said, “When you come in, hopefully it won’t be too busy and I will get you into a change room as quickly as I can without too many people noticing.” I said that would be perfect. I will call you in the next few days to set up an appointment and see what would be the best time for me to come in.”
So a couple of days later when I knew I could get to the store, I called my local Torrid store and set up an appointment for a proper bra fitting for that night. Luckily, I had an excuse to go to the mall without my wife. I told her that I was going to go shoe shopping for a wedding coming up.
On my way to the mall, I quickly called the store to see how busy it was and Tracy told me to come in and she will help me. Immediately I had butterflies in my stomach. Thinking to myself, “Is this really going to happen now?” Calming myself down, I started to think about all of my adventures lately being out and wearing a bra and all of those were great experiences with no incidents or problems. I said to myself, “You got this GIRL!”
As I walked in the store, there were a couple of ladies shopping for different items. A dress caught my eye so I immediately went over to see it. As I was looking at the dress, a lady approached me and said quietly “Hello, how can I help you. My name is Tracy.” A smile came over my face and she knew exactly who I was. She said for me to follow her and she has a changeroom already saved for me.
Great start so far!
She comes into the changeroom, closes the door and asks me to lift my arms. She wraps the measuring tape around me and then asks me, “Are you wearing a bra?” I said, “Yes but it was something I picked up quickly. I don’t know if it is the right size. Hence me coming in to have this done.”
“Well, let us take a look then.”
I take off my t-shirt to reveal my Genie padded bra. “First off, I didn’t even notice that you were wearing one if you were concerned. Secondly, I think this is a little tight. You can probably go a size bigger.” She then proceeded to show me why it was too tight.
“Lets go back to your fitting.” She wrapped the measuring tape back around me and said, “OK so you are a 40”. Then she moved the tape up a bit and measured my chest. “Well, you are definitely 2 inches or a B cup but I am going to assume you would like something a little bigger.” I nodded and said, “But I don’t want them to be too big. I would like them to have a natural look.”
Tumblr media
“Then I think you should either go with a C or D cup. Personally, with your shape, a C might be better.” I nodded again. She said, “Just wait here and I am going to see if I can find you some bras to try on. Oh, by the way, I can put a star on the door instead of your name.” I gently said, “You can put Michelle.”
“Ok perfect. Michelle, I will be right back.” She gave me a huge smile and a little wink and headed out. A couple of minutes later, I hear a knock on the door and I hear “Michelle, can I come in” It was so nice to hear my girly name said to me for the first time. I wanted to say “YES” but I didn’t want to say anything with my male voice so I just opened the door to the changeroom. I think I was blushing when she came in.
She had given me 3 bras for me to try. 1 of them I put it on and quickly took it off. Not for me. The second I put it on and I heard “How’s it going in there Michelle?” I opened the door, telling her that she could come in. She looked at me in my new bra and said, “Now that looks good! Actually amazing!” She asked me to turn around and she looked at the back. “Perfect! I really like this bra on you, Michelle.” There was my name again. Euphoria! I loved hearing my name.
Tumblr media
“Ok try on the other 2 and let me know what you think.” I quickly said, “I tried this one on and I didn’t like it. I took it off immediately. I’ll try the other one.”
I quickly changed bras and Tracy came back in. “That one looks nice.”
“I like it but I don’t like the straps and the way that they come up. wearing a t-shirt like this one is nice but I am afraid that if I wear anything else, you are going to see those straps, which is a huge sign that I am wearing a bra.” She agreed and said, “Ok. Take off that one and put the other one back on. I will be right back.”
“I'll be right back???” I agreed but now I was a little baffled. Why is she asking me to put the other one back on? I did as she said and a couple of minutes later, I heard a knock and “Are you ok Michelle?” I open the door and Tracy walks in with a couple of pieces of clothing:
A black silk camisole.
A beautiful light blue blouse with a flower pattern.
The dress I had my eye on when I walked in.
“Why not give these a try. You have amazing blue eyes so I wanted to see how these would look on you.” I was absolutely shocked. I was literally on Cloud 9. She continued, “Well you need a nice cami and this one will compliment the bra. I think this blouse will look nice with your eyes and you already had an eye on this one.” She gives me a huge smile and a giggle.
I tried on each item. Each felt amazing and Tracy came into the changeroom to give her opinion too. The silk camisole felt amazing and looked great. Tracy agreed. The blouse she picked out looked great. The dress I picked out looked great on the rack but, unfortunately, did not look good on myself.
I changed into my normal clothes and waited a few minutes. No Tracy so I slightly opened the door to see if anyone was outside. The coast looked clear so I opened the door and headed out of the changeroom. There were 2 women standing there that I could not see from the crack of my door. So I looked them straight in the eye, smiled and said, “Excuse me ladies” and walked right past them. One gave me a nice smile and the other gave a stunned (not weird) look.
I went to the cash register and said to Tracy, “Those other clothes are lovely but I think I am only going to get the bra today.” I had tried on the black version but ended up getting the “beige/nude” version. I am going to go back to get the black one soon.
Tumblr media
As I waited to pay, I pulled up my phone and gave the store a 5 star rating on Google Maps. I waited to post it because I wanted to show her the review.
Before leaving, I had to thank Tracy for an amazing experience and it will be something I will never forget. The last thing she said was, “Michelle, it was a pleasure helping you today. Please come back soon if you want to do some more shopping and try on some different outfits.” I was smiling from ear-to-ear. One very satisfied customer.
Thank you Tracy! Thank you Torrid!

So yesterday @genginger tagged me in a “three things that you’re proud of in 2023″ thing, and I had to think a lot to come up with things - being long-term unemployed means my days (and weeks, and months) tend to be very sameness-of-a-same.
One thing I got done at the end of the year (but have yet to deploy) is putting together a skills-based resume. Sooooo much anxiety over finally tackling it, as I’ve been unemployed for over a decade now and haven’t job searched in years. Thankfully some online friends did supportive hand-holding while I tackled it. Now I just... need to figure out some applications. Write some cover letters (UGH!!!). Probably make some more versions of the resume, to cover skill sets relevant to specific jobs (DOUBLE UGH!!!).
Been working my way through the big box of old family photos from the basement, plus my personal large file box of photos, and scanning all of them. Have the former finished but am still working through the latter. At some point I need to burn a bunch of them to DVD to send around to my brother and sister’s households (all the family ones, plus some of my personal ones).
One of the biggest projects I tackled in late summer of last year was to finally put together an emergency go-bag for myself (see photo above), inspired in part by katy-l-wood’s Evacuation Prep chart having crossed my dash earlier in the year, plus us here in northern Ontario having had several bad fire summers recently, including the fire by the old ski hill in 2020. Thankfully small, thankfully put out rapidly, but it came right down to the yards of the houses along the base of the ridge. We were on edge for a few hours on whether or not things might go bad and force us to evacuate (not to mention we’ve had bigger fires only a little further away that took 2-3 days to put out), and I’d found myself thinking several times since about what I’d grab if we got that sudden automated phone call or banging on the door. More about the go-bag contents under the cut (it’s long).
Anyone else interested in posting their three things, consider yourself tagged :)
So... go-bag contents! This is still a WIP, I plan to add additional food items to it for one, but at present, from left to right this includes:
couple of foldable water containers. It there’s enough warning before having to leave, those would be filled from the tap and go out to the truck separately, otherwise will be filled at whatever first stop with potable water we* reach.
box of assorted Cliff bars, to be replaced every 6-8 months. I also plan to add a box of assorted fruit bars and/or nut bars and/or sesame snaps. Stable foods with some nutrition and a good energy hit, basically.
the opened out red bag is a first aid molle pouch, it includes EMT shears, bandaids, adhesive mesh, polysporin, and a ton of assorted gauze pads and packing gauze leftover from when I was have a large cyst treated a year or two ago (yay for daily nurse visits to inspect and repack the wound).
the yellow drawstring bag contains a large rain poncho
mess kit, normally stored in the round purse with the raffia flamingo on it (protects it, plus doesn’t hurt to have an extra bag in my bag)
the large black duffle bag that everything fits inside
to the right of that is a dark green electronics storage bag, in front of which are what it normally holds - a solar power bank, my old 7″ android tablet, my old android cell phone (the sim card for which is in my new phone, but it’s still usable for emergency calls and means I have a backup handy if I accidentally break the new phone), red external backup drive, my original bluetooth speaker in its lime green carry case - all of these get their batteries topped up at the start of each month, plus updated (OS, apps, backup files). Also a couple of USB charging bases and cables.
stainless steel thermos
LifeStraw personal water filter (in case the only water source is questionable)
folding umbrella
from in front of that over to right is all small things I store inside a purse organizer, which I have tucked inside a clear vinyl storage bag that some sheets came in, so its protected from collecting dust or lint, plus if anything escapes the organizer it’ll remain in the bag. Contents include: small coin purse holding a small roll of bills, can opener, makeup mirror (as a mirror and for flash signalling), tums, safety razor, comb, hair elastics, USB rechargeable flashlight, soap, tooth floss, toothpaste, toothbrush, ibuprofen, packet of tissues.
the lumpy blue things at back right are compression packing cubes full of tshirts, socks, underwear, a pair of jeans, flannel shirt, light hoodie, plus hiding between them and the clear vinyl bag are a drawstring cloth bag holding pyjamas (so it’s easy to grab just sleepwear), and a zippered pouch of more socks and more underwear. Figure I’ll remove, wash, and repack the clothes on the same 6-8 month rotation as replacing the food in the bag.
Basically it’s aimed mostly at getting to and remaining at an evacuation centre or motel for a couple days sort of goal, but I have also put a bit of consideration into what if we’re unable to reach such a place and end up stuck temporarily outside somewhere, so things like how the poncho can double as a small shelter (which reminds me I should add some paracord or light rope), the LifeStraw can be used to more safely drink from untreated water sources, and I have at least a few days worth of food on hand. Also there’s a sleeping bag stored in the same closet as this kit, so close to hand. And a second, much larger duffle to stuff as many clothes into as possible.
Most of the other small things I’d want to grab, such as ID, keys, and more cash, are in my purse, which is an arm’s length away from where I sit at my computer.
* - I say ‘we’ because I don’t drive, so if there’s an evacuation I’d be going with my brother or waving down a neighbour’s vehicle.

'In the summer ... a veritable Eden'
By Jonathan Monfiletto
Tumblr media
The town of Milo in Yates County might be the location of the village of Penn Yan, but the towns of Jerusalem and Middlesex – both cited as having been incorporated in 1789 – are where the Pennsylvanians and the Yankees settled when they first traversed across the boundary set forth by the Proclamation of 1763. Both towns had been part of the larger district of Canandaigua when Ontario County itself was a larger county; even Jerusalem was once a larger town, stretching from its current borders toward Seneca Lake and encompassing the modern towns of Benton, Milo, and Torrey.
And even the town of Middlesex was once a larger town, comprising the modern town of Potter along with its current territory. The origins of the town of Jerusalem lie within its name, as the Society of Universal Friends – the Yankees who gathered Pennsylvanians along their journey – sought to establish the New Jerusalem for their community in a place then untouched by white European civilization. But this article is really about the town of Middlesex, and its origin is rather similar to its cousin township – particularly that many of its early settlers were followers of the Public Universal Friend.
Through a deed dated July 15, 1789, Arnold Potter – the Potter family having been prominent followers of the Friend and having built the home known as the Potter Mansion – purchased from Thomas Maxwell township eight of the second range and township eight of the third range entities that now include the modern towns of Middlesex and Potter and contain 42,230 acres of land. There was some question about the validity of this purchase, so about a decade later Potter settled a similar claim with Oliver Phelps for $10,000 – though it is said Potter never actually paid that amount, which comes to a little more than $180,000 today.
Though the town’s official name was Augusta, it was known almost exclusively as Potterstown in honor of its founder. How it got its official name is unclear, but apparently a town to the east in Oneida County already had the same name (and a reason behind that name), so the town became Middlesex in 1808 after the county in Massachusetts where many of its early settlers had come from. In 1832, the eastern half of the town split off as its own town, Potter, and with a few border changes here and there the situation has remained the same ever since. Now back to the town of Middlesex.
Throughout its history, Middlesex has been known both as a remote town – its center being the furthest from the county seat of Penn Yan than any other town in Yates County – and a wealthy town, in terms of both its vibrant grape growing industry and its scenic natural landscape. West River, described as a small stream even though it is termed a river, cuts the town in half diagonally from the northeast corner and divides the town’s two main ridges. On the east is, appropriately, East Hill; Boat Brook, another small stream, divides the western ridge into Bare Hill to the north and South Hill. Boat Brook runs toward Canandaigua Lake, which constitutes Middlesex’s western border, through a valley aptly called Vine Valley. Vine Valley has been called “a veritable Eden,” and perhaps this moniker fits all of the Middlesex terrain.
Middlesex was also described by an early town supervisor as so poor that “nothing but eagles and angels could subsist there,” yet it went on to become a thriving industrial, agricultural, commercial, and social area. An article written a few years after the turn of the 20th century indicates Middlesex then had a population of almost 1,200 people spread across 74 dwellings; the town then held three blacksmith shops, one hotel, six stores, one meat market, one evaporator, and one combined feed mill and beanery as well as two churches among its various vineyards and farms for crops and animals. Indeed, Middlesex came late to the church planting game compared to the county’s other towns, largely due to its nature as a haven for members of the Society of Universal Friends. It didn’t see its first organized religion, other than the Friends, until the Methodists formed their class in 1820. The first church building went up in 1836 at Overacker’s Corners.
And while Middlesex wasn’t the site of the first vineyard in Yates County (that honor goes to the town of Benton), “it is one of the most fertile and productive districts, especially in the staples, fruit and grapes, in the whole Genesee Country,” as Lewis Cass Aldrich wrote in his 1892 history of Yates County. In a 1925 newspaper article, Lewis Cass Williams (apparently Michigan hero Lewis Cass was a popular namesake) stated, “A large number of carloads are shipped each season,” as Middlesex is “largely engaged in the growing of grapes.” “For years the production of grapes and fruits has been far more pleasant and agreeable to the land owner, and what is still better, more profitable (than other forms of agriculture),” Aldrich added, noting farmers – the main occupation of the town at that point in time – were turning away from growing crops and raising animals toward planting vineyards.
By 1925, as Williams captured it, Middlesex also hosted two auto repair shops, two department stores, and a firm selling groceries, boots, shoes, and farm implements among its commercial interests. Indeed, as Williams asserted, “We could mention many more good things about our town. … Our people are generally contented and happy. … If anyone who reads this article is thinking of changing his location, we think he would like it in Middlesex.”
Even as the commercial district of Middlesex Center waned in the 1970s, that sentiment seemed to remain among the residents of the town. In a newspaper article from the time period, those interviewed agreed on the friendly and neighborly character of Middlesex as well as its beautiful and peaceful nature.
