Kevin and Oakley pt. 1
Looking back, Kevin really doesn´t know how he´s still alive. College has been a total shitshow; Kevin can see that now, almost seven years after graduating. Some of the stuff Neil pulled definitely should've gotten them killed. But hey, Kevin is not one to complain, he´s not sure where he would´ve been without the Foxes. Feeling sentimental, Kevin drops his phone on the counter and turns towards his cup of coffee. Every now and then he misses college - not the classes or the campus life, but the quiet evenings he spent with Neil and Andrew on the couch or the shopping trips with Matt, Allison and Nicky.
Now, all of the foxes are spread out in the world: Nicky is in Germany with Erik and their son, Aaron and Katelyn are both hard at work saving people, Dan and Matt are back in Palmetto, raising their kids while Dan has taken over a little leagues team, Renee is with the peace corps and Allison is somewhere in New York. Andrew and Neil live in and play for Michigan, they´ve just bought a house a few years ago and are living the successful-partners dream. And then there´s Kevin.
At 30 years old he´s still living alone. He has nothing besides Exy and the cream coloured hunk of a cat currently laying ontop of his fridge. She's been given as a present from Neil and Andrew who had blatantly lied when telling Kevin that the little kitten probably wouldn't get that big. Now, two years later she´s outgrown most cat beds he bought and prefers sleeping on his spare pillow on his bed. That doesn´t change the fact that Kevin, despite everything, loves her to pieces.
“Get down there, lady, you´ve already had breakfast.”
Lady just blinks at him, meows and lazily takes a swing in his general direction, missing by miles. With a sigh, Kevin puts his cup away and raises his arms towards her, quietly asking her to get down from the fridge. She in return reaches for his hand and starts nibbling on his finger. Defeated, Kevin accepts his fate and stays where he is standing, hand raised and with his coffee just out of reach. Instead, he lets his eyes wander, taking in the boxes of tupperware and kitchen utensils still unpacked and waiting in a corner of the room.
Kevin moved almost a year ago but for some reason he doesn´t dare to fully unpack. The breakup with Thea happened just shortly after he had graduated, just three months after he had moved in with her. It´s been a sudden, painful event; Thea had ripped the bandaid off but didn´t think of Kevin´s attachment issues. Moving back in with his father and Abby at 25 definitely was not something Kevin expected to happen.
Lady´s sharp teeth digging into the palm of his hand finally rips Kevin out of his thoughts for long enough to get moving. Scolding his cat gently, he pulls his hand away, offering once more to get her down. When she doesn´t react, he leaves her in favor of finishing his coffee and getting ready to leave his home-not-hom.
Reaching for the electric razor sitting on the little ledge beneath the mirror, Kevin shaves off the shadow of stubbles covering his cheeks. He's pretty sure he could grow a decent beard if David´s beard is anything to go by, but it´d be a change he´s not ready for yet. Changes in general are not something Kevin likes to go through, especially alone. Back in college it has been easier because there´s always been someone to catch him in one way or the other but now he's alone and away from his family so changes in any shape or form are something he turns away from.
His hair has gotten longer again - it´s time for a haircut - but the strands of dark hair framing his face take some of the attention from the tattoo beneath his eye so he might just leave it. After washing his face and brushing his teeth, Kevin deems himself presentable enough for practice. Today´s gym day anyways and the rest of the team doesn´t pay him too much attention so he doesn´t bother putting his hair back in something neater than a low ponytail before getting dressed in sweatpants and the blue and grey jersey of the Chicago Scorpions. His gym back is already packed and waiting in the hallway. Lady apparently considers this a pillow worthy enough for her majesty to lay on because she´s curled up inside the bag, tail hanging over the edge and large head resting on her crossed front paws.
“I can´t take you with me, you know that. I´ll be back in the afternoon, promise.” Lady just purrs and rubs her head against the towel she´s laying on, making Kevin soft enough to kneel down and rub her ear. The low rumble coming from her chest instantly make Kevin´s shoulders lose the unnoticed tension holding them up.
“I know sweetheart.” Kevin would die on the spot if anyone heard him right now. “I´ll be back before you know it.”
Kevin knows that once he´s out of the door, Lady almost instantly curls up somewhere and just sleeps until he´s back, but leaving his silky soft sweetheart behind, even if just for a few hours, leaves him feeling restless and on edge. With an aching heart he scoops Lady up in his arms, lightly rubs his cheek against her head before letting her back down on the ground. Before she can slip back into his gym bag, he zips it closed and lifts it up over one shoulder.
“Behave, you know the rules.”
Lady meows an answer, rubs around his legs while he slips in to his shoes and sits next to the door until it closes in front of her.
The drive over to the gym is a relatively quick one, traffic is bad but Kevin knows to leave a bit earlier just to get through it. Once he enters the gym through the court entrance, he´s immediately greated by warm, sticky air, laughter and Dalton´s obnoxiously loud music. The urge to turn around and just call in sick is quickly suffocated at it´s root when Dalton notices Kevin, drops the ropes he´s been holding and comes over. He´s already sweaty and gross, grinning while out of breath, and wraps an arm around Kevin´s shoulder, pulling him in close to squish their cheeks together.
“Kevin, light of my life. Oh how I´ve missed you, my-”
“Shut the fuck up,” grumbles Kevin, rolling his eyes while slapping Dalton´s hand away. “You stink.”
“And you´re late,” Dalton notices.
“I´m perfectly on time. It´s not my problem you´re addicted to lifting weights.”
“You can just admit your jealousy, Day.”
“Jealous of what? Your inability to buy normal shirts? I don´t think so.”
Snorting, Dalton shrugs and pats Kevin´s shoulder.
“Go get changed so you can spot me.”
Shaking his head, Kevin wanders off into the locker rooms to change into his gym clothes. While he´s warming up, the rest of the team slowly sneaks in, all holding varying phases of sleepiness in their slumped shoulders and sleep-swollen eyes. Their coach doesn´t usually join their gym sessions, trusting Isaac Wilson - team captain and kind of a jerk - to take attendance and take care of the rest. Wilson, of course, is nowhere to be seen. If he joins them at all, he´ll be late and most likely take the list of attendance he forced Nellie Jakobsen to check off.
Nellie is too new - and too kind - to be able to say no to Wilson and Wilson is too much of a dickhead to not take advantage of that. Speaking of the devil, Nellie steps up on the mat next to Kevin, reaches for a couple of weights and starts her exercises. Kevin continues his sit-ups, trying to not pay the young woman shooting him glance after glance any mind. It's not that easy though, when you're looking at the same mirror. At one point, Nellie must ́ve worked up the courage to say whatever there is to say because she turns, takes a little step towards Kevin and clears her throat.
“Uh…hi,” she smiles, her already rosy cheeks only deepening in colour.
“Hey,” replies Kevin, coming to a pause in his movements. “What´s up?”
“Uh…Chase and my sister and I wanted to go to the history museum later today and Dalton mentioned that you like history so we - I uh, I was wondering if you maybe wanted to join us?"
Blinking, Kevin tried to organize her nervous mumbling into understandable sentences in his head. Chase is Nellie's cousin and he's never met her sister in his life. He doesn't like meeting new people, he doesn't like going to places he's not been to before, not without planning and at least two days of overthinking it.
But then again, if Dalton knows about Nellie's plan, he'll annoy Kevin once he hears that Kevin said no. The fact that Kevin's social life is pretty much non-existent is already one of the biggest topic of Dalton's teasing, he doesn't need to pour gasoline into the fire.
Get out there Kevin. If it's no fun you can leave and if you're having a good time you can be even prouder of yourself to going through with it.
Of course Abby is the voice of reason in his head. Just because he can't say no to her.
"Uh...sure….yeah, sounds good."

TDIH: First Marine Commandant
On this day in 1775, a Philadelphia tavern owner is commissioned as commanding officer of the newly formed Marines. Samuel Nicholas received his commission only 18 days after the Continental Congress passed a resolution requiring that “two Battalions of Marines be raised” to support the recently organized Continental Navy.
The day of that original resolution -- November 10 -- is celebrated as the birthday of the United States Marine Corps.
Nicholas was another “Fighting Quaker”! He was the son of a blacksmith, but he’d worked his way up in society a bit. By the time the war started, he was a tavern owner and founder of the Gloucester Fox Hunting Club. He also belonged to an exclusive club called the Schuylkill Fishing Company. Because of his background, he had friends and connections in many classes of Philadelphia society. It was thought that he’d be the perfect person to recruit the tough guys who would be needed as Marines.

Burn

It had been kinda nice to work as a team.
Technically, they were all part of one giant team before leaving Titanium, but Akeela didn't get much chance to work with the others. Sarah was restricted to reconnaissance, Rosie was mostly sent on solo missions that played to her powers, and Hugo was practically chained to a computer, running intel.
But this morning, before the sun had even risen, Hugo had banged on her door to wake her up, a laptop tucked under one arm.
The screen had been packed with techno gibberish when he held it out to her, until he pointed out one crucial line:
Terminate Cinder.
The guy who'd threatened Sarah. The guy who Sarah wanted to save anyway.
They'd woken up the others, and left in a rush.
Hugo had done most of the work, diving into the Titanium servers he'd spent so long hacking, and eventually coming up with a general location. Sarah was up next, playing 'I Spy' in that corner of town, looking for the runaway assassin.
When he stepped off the bridge, it was Rosie who swam out to save him, pushing through the electric shocks that wouldn't stop spewing from his collar.
And on the frantic journey home, it was Akeela who'd helped carry him, just in case he started a panicked burn.
She kinda admired Cinder. Not in a weird way, and not because he was a good fighter, or strong, or powerful, but because he'd done the impossible. Escaped the shadow of Corporate.
Before he'd broken into their hideout, Akeela had honestly never heard of Cinder, but once the team had regrouped, cleaned up, and prepared to move, she'd looked him up. Assassin, she already knew from Sarah. But his powers were also unregistered, 'untrained' by legal definition, and he'd never officially worked for a Corp until Uriah Fox came along.
He'd come from the Underneath. Nothing crazy, most criminals did, but she'd never heard of someone with fire powers, someone like her, who'd managed to outrun both the law and Corporate for as long as Cinder had.
Fire was dangerous. Fire needed to be controlled. An Empowered who could turn invisible, or make flowers grow, or change the shapes of the clouds, might be able to live under the radar, but someone made of fire held the power to destroy. They ended up owned or dead.
Except for Cinder. And yeah, Uriah had caught him, put him on a leash, but he'd broken it. Just like her.
Akeela wished she could've been more like him. Free in the 'Neath, hiding from the Hero-Corps long before they even got a chance to put her in their system. But her parents had both been normal, working class people who wanted the best for the daughter they were told could grow up dangerous without the right training.
They'd handed their little girl off to Titanium and never seen her again.
And Akeela had trained. Trained and trained and trained her childhood away, shaping her fire until they told her she was safe enough to stay alive, then being told if she wanted to keep it she'd have to sign a contract.
She'd been ten at the time, whisked away to a little monitored room at Titanium headquarters, assigned to a team, given missions.
She'd fought people like Cinder. Hurt them, burned them, put them behind bars. Because Mr. Fox had a contract with law enforcement, and the law had no problem laying out who was good and who was bad.
For so long, she'd wanted to be good. But she didn't know what good meant anymore. Every day the middle ground, the gray space between, seemed to grow a little wider, and that gray space made sense.
Akeela fit right into the gray. She'd hurt people, but she didn't like it, but she'd do it again to save her team. Everyone on her team was right there with her; willing to break rules and fight and bleed if it meant getting one step closer to destroying Uriah. Maybe Cinder was there too.
He'd hurt people, but so had she. He'd worked for Titanium, but he'd had no choice, and neither had she. They were just alike. Two peas in a pod.
After all she'd read about him, it was weird seeing him in the guest room. Wrapped in a blue sheet, wearing a tense, guarded expression. His throat was bandaged to protect the electrical burns that circled it, and the scarred skin that had become visible after Hugo took the cybernetic arms away was red and irritated, like he'd never once taken a break from them.
He wasn't a super happy camper when she'd tried to talk to him, but that was understandable. He was angry. She hoped he'd realize soon that they were all angry too. At the city, at the rules, at the politicians who danced like puppets when companies like Good Knight and Racehorse Industries and Titanium tugged on their strings.
They had more raw power than a nuclear reactor; thousands of Empowered, bound by contracts, kept in line by the fear of being Redlined. All doing their masters' bidding.
Sarah said Corp needed to burn. Luckily, burning was something Akeela was good at. Firebrand, firestarter, little miss bic lighter. If Cinder would join them, the flames would only rise, get harder to put out.
And then, maybe they could actually make a difference. Maybe they could stop looking over their shoulder.
Maybe they could free everyone.

i like to think that if the college gang ever went in the dark world near the end before the fountain the chapters secret boss would kidnap Gaster (because ut gaster did something to ruin their life like in deltarune) and then they either save him and fight a secreat boss or just close the fountain and he wakes up with injury's and go "welp bye" and then goes scold ut gaster for a few minutes for messing with people
(also weird route will be ut gaster seeing if its possible to puppeteer Chara like we do to kris and then decides to do some mess up shit but in the end, he just resets ( i think he can do that based on the everyman comic) also it gets progressively worse like chapter 1 pranks taken to far (mortaly inguring people then say its just a prank) probably breaks Asriel's arms then asks him "you need a hand" and does something to Gaster so he falls apart like humpty dumpy then just sings humpty dumpy wearing a knight suit to in chapter 7 undertale genocide with chara and gaster as the final boss also charas remember so things like this happen
asriel: "hey Chara my saber got an upgrade it can shoot out stars now"
chara: (remembering dying to the saber so many times in weird route)
chara: traumatic war flashback
also, for darworld locations
chapter 1: physic class (there tired of people hating the subject and are now fighting back) also probably some dictatorship of the teacher desk being on top with students' belongings being the low class, some gravity mechanics, puzzles being physic equations, secreat boss being some art picture that asriel or frisk drew and forgot about which was hated on by everyone in the physic darkworld who was told that with a soul you can go to a place where you will be appreciated, probably when Gaster actually started to bond with kris/asriel,ends with deltarune gaster telling them about ut gaster
(not going in depth for the rest of these)
chapter 2: art class probably the opposite of the art boss which this one being physic homework who was hated, probally very abstruce,so sorry as another perso who entered it
chapter 3: film class: hollywood, burger pants was video calling someone in there and now the phone became sentient and burgpant can controlly it (with some stuff about becoming an lackey actor)
chapter 4: history class: literly all of history together like cowboys and dinosaurs talking, gerson whos darkworld costumes a corpes for some reason, asriel keep getting headache talking to him
chapter 5: "papryus giant fun house to keep people happy at colloge": proud dadster, snowdin puzzle, papryus there, alot of things in it are alive, the puzzle revolution is coming, they think papryus is a dictator (hes not),ends with him going to hometown to "watch out for things for gaster"
chapter 6: computer lab; its just undertale but with them, toby fox as extre party member, secreat boss is flowey "asriels oc"
chapter 7: gasters secret lab things: extre party member ut gaster?, yeah darkworld can bring people back from the dead, also undertale charas here to,everyones confuse, almagmets because gaster was expirementing with ai art (asriels ashamed of him),scrapped undertale contents here to because gaster not the only thing that came from this, ferdors papryus is there, ends with them learning there an au and then fighting you then ends with them crashing the game and gaining free will, and the credits are asriel and chara going to hometown and meeting kris who did whetvers happening in deltarune and you can't do anything anymore unless you edit the code
and thats it hope you enjoyed it (oh also lots of character devolment happens between chara's hate for humanity, asriel need to be perfect, and gasters lonelyness)
(also can people use the sprites for fanfic like the storyshift fic Storyshift Reboot: The Write Up - Chapter 1 - VoltraTheLively - Undertale (Video Game) [Archive of Our Own])
WOW thank you for writing the whole plot for me!! /j!!! but seriously I really love this omg. VERY COOL how you’ve thought this out and tbh some of it is pretty in line with some of my own ideas hehe!! this is hilarious and rly creative

Was thinking about CCs train and shit when it hit me. There are a few commanders, such as Monnk, Jet, Blackout, and Hound (he’s a cc to me) who would have to be trained alone or with CT’s, since their specialty requires so much work.
So, I have come with an idea. Since the standard week is 5 days, 3 of the 5 are spent in specialized classes. They’d do their flash training and then be taken by other trainers. They would train with a squad of others, and put in charge.
For Hound, since it’s a special case of having a Massiff buddy. Those three days are set together and Grizzer would stick with him all day, and night. To strengthen their bond, they would spend off time together and Hound would have his official trainer (an Mandalorian) set Grizzer in the bunk with him. This was a not great idea for some massiffs but Grizzer loved the pod and would wiggle like hell when the Alpha picked him up.
I can just imagine, Monnk coming back to his squad from specialized training soaking wet and cold. Having his Alpha help him peel off the dry suit before he goes to bed. Talking all about the fun things he learned and saw with his Mandalorian trainer. Actually, I headcanon that Monnk and his trainer got along incredibly well is basically adopted by the Mandalorian. Monnk got his name and the sea dragon across his armor from the Mandalorian. (I also headcanon that Dred Priest hated the Mandalorian and reconditioned Monnk to get at him. Dred ended up in a bacta tank and the Mandalorian retaught Monnk everything from scratch. (Monnk was about 3 standard at the time.))
Jet scared the shit out of his trainer with how well he was able to control the flame. He was also taught what alternate fuels could be used on different planets and Jet got so interested he found all the options he could on Kamino (only 2) and he switched out the fuel, Pyro (my OC) was all to happy to help. They both were found sitting on the floor with the flamethrower between them, quietly watching the flames. Turns out, all of the flame troopers either had or developed pyromania to *some* degree. The trainer in charge was quite happy to find out about this as he had a severe case himself and was all to happy to indulge his troopers under the excuse of teaching the troopers.
Blackout is a special operations clone trooper, trained for stealth operations and piloting. While he did not have a super close bond with his trainer, they both still enjoyed each others company and considered each other friends. Blackout is one of the few who was already good at lying, but his training made him the best (better than even Fox, which he is very proud of). He wasn't as close with as many of his troopers due to their numbers being quite large, but he (like the rest of the spec ops troops) does his best to instruct and learn about his troopers in their short time together.
Bacara, though not recieving any special training, caught the eye of a Concord Dawn Mandalorian who took him for special Marine training for one day a week. It would be till later when they decided to have a Marine Corps that he would become the specialist.

WEST POINT, N.Y. (AP) — “Duty, Honor, Country” has been the motto of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point since 1898. That motto isn’t changing, but a decision to take those words out of the school’s lesser-known mission statement is still generating outrage.
Officials at the 222-year-old military academy 60 miles (96 kilometers) north of New York City recently reworked the one-sentence mission statement, which is updated periodically, usually with little fanfare.
The school’s “Duty, Honor, Country,” motto first made its way into that mission statement in 1998.
The new version declares that the academy’s mission is “To build, educate, train, and inspire the Corps of Cadets to be commissioned leaders of character committed to the Army Values and ready for a lifetime of service to the Army and Nation.”
“As we have done nine times in the past century, we have updated our mission statement to now include the Army Values,” academy spokesperson Col. Terence Kelley said Thursday. Those values — spelled out in other documents — are loyalty, duty, respect, selfless service, honor, integrity and personal courage, he said.
Still, some people saw the change in wording as nefarious.
“West Point is going woke. We’re watching the slow death of our country,” conservative radio host Jeff Kuhner complained in a post on the social media platform X.
Rachel Campos-Duffy, co-host of the Fox network’s “Fox & Friends Weekend,” wrote on the platform that West Point has gone “full globalist” and is “Purposely tanking recruitment of young Americans patriots to make room for the illegal mercenaries.”
West Point Superintendent Lt. Gen. Steve Gilland said in a statement that “Duty, Honor, Country is foundational to the United States Military Academy’s culture and will always remain our motto.”
“It defines who we are as an institution and as graduates of West Point,” he said. “These three hallowed words are the hallmark of the cadet experience and bind the Long Gray Line together across our great history.”
Kelley said the motto is carved in granite over the entrance to buildings, adorns cadets’ uniforms and is used as a greeting by plebes, as West Point freshmen are called, to upper-class cadets.
The mission statement is less ubiquitous, he said, though plebes are required to memorize it and it appears in the cadet handbook “Bugle Notes.”

Happy STS! Let's talk about secrets. Do your characters or world have them? Are they considered a good thing or bad? Who in your cast is most likely to spill one? ♥️
Oh, Tori, you've activated an info dump - thank you💜
Answering for Days of Dusk:
Does the world have secrets?
Let me start with introducing you to merchants of whispers.
They're information brokers who specialise in a particular area - be it a geographical area, like a city, a county, or a princedom, or a topic, e.g. current events and politics (the Shadow), precious artworks and antiques (the Fox), lower social classes (the Tawny Owl), or curses and forbidden arcane knowledge (the Newt). These are the most famous ones, operating a little bit like the Dread Pirate Roberts in The Princess Bride. If one gets 'dethroned', someone else (usually the one doing the dethroning) will assume their identity. There are of course some minor and law-abiding merchants of whispers, who'll find you information like 'who does a plot of land belong to' or 'which rival merchant is looking to diversify', but they don't make for a good story, so we'll leave them be.
The Shadow is the most famous of them all, with the most robust network. They're to the world of twilight what the Prince of Light is in the sunlit world. Not officially a ruler, but without a doubt the most powerful figure with vast resources to get their way.
The Shadow is also the one wearing the Cloak of Shadow - one of the legendary four cloaks, imbued with the Weaveress's power. It will hide them in plain sight, make them disappear in the blink of an eye, and on the off-chance you know where they are and look directly at them, you still won't be able to see/hear/smell/etc. any recognisable detail about them. So, of course, it's a target painted on their back and the aspirational goal of any ambitious merchant of whispers.
They trade in secrets, which the aristocracy and other influential figures would like to keep to themselves, so there's a bit of an arms race between the two groups. Obviously using private messengers instead of the postal system is a must, but on top of that there are various developments such as tamper-proof wax which will change colour if someone tried to deform it once it set. There are methods of encryption complicated enough that by the time it's broken, the information is no longer relevant.
The insidious part of the merchants' of whispers mode of operation is that they never steal - they'll break in, copy the information, and exit quietly, so quite often you won't even know that you've been compromised.
It's almost a game or a competition between the government and the criminal underworld, believed to be bound by rules of honour - and so it is. It's a precarious balance, but to an extent it prevents the princes from squabbling among themselves at the expense of their subjects.
However.
There are also secrets that have never been written anywhere - so the merchants of whispers can't discover them. These are known only to the people who remember the Sun King when he walked the Earth. That includes the princes. They're the only group who knows that beliefs tangibly shape reality, and yes, of course they use it to maintain power.
Military secrets
Many of my characters are part of the Intelligence and Internal Security Corps of the Army, so they also deal with a lot of classified information and need to keep their mouth shut. Erya is the Captain General of IntSec, Varré her second in command, Gullin and Catnip are both brigadiers - so that's the top 4 in the chain of command.
Catnip in particular is responsible for gathering information. Her powers allow her to control small animals, who spy for her, which makes her an invaluable asset. And while she is the gossip queen, she knows very well what she should and shouldn't talk about, being the oldest and most tenured officer in the entire corps.
The most guarded secret there is that the Army can stop ruptures from appearing completely. No more threat to the population. No more people eaten by the Dark Ones. Buuuut if they did it, the whole institution wouldn't have a reason to exist, so...🤐
(Fun fact: being the nerd that I am, I've figured out access controls to the military archives, based on Bell-La Padula Model, and somehow managed to make it relevant to the plot...)
Are secrets considered a good thing or bad?
Neither. They're more like tokens or commodities, which can be traded and exchanged.
Do my characters have secrets?
Every. Single. One.
The two with the most world-shattering secrets are probably Erya and Ianim.
Who in your cast is most likely to spill one?
Lissan. Everyone other than him is very well-trained and used to dealing with either state or military secrets. So of course he's the one to run head-first into them on regular basis😅
If you made it this far:
Books 2 and 3 of DoD (The Prince's Shadow, Prodigal Children), answer what happens when the Shadow and the Prince of Light fall for each other. What will they choose, having the balance of the entire realm at stake?

Rupert Murdoch, the longtime head of News Corp. and Fox, will step down as chairman and take on the role of chairman emeritus, capping a seven-decade career that built a media dynasty ranging from cable television to tabloid newspapers and turned him into one of the world's most influential media executives.
Lachlan Murdoch, Rupert Murdoch's eldest son, will become the sole chair of News Corp. and continue as executive and CEO of Fox Corp, Fox announced Thursday. Rupert Murdoch will take on his new role at the companies' next shareholder meetings, which are scheduled for mid-November.
Rupert Murdoch, 92, exits News Corp. and Fox at a time the media businesses are facing a number of challenges, including the fallout from a bruising trial, and nearly $800 million settlement, over a defamation lawsuit after Fox News aired unfounded claims that Dominion Voting Systems equipment was used to rig the 2020 presidential election.
Murdoch became one of the foremost media executives of the last half century by building an extensive network of tabloids, cable and broadcast TV, and entertainment assets, many known for espousing conservative ideas. He's also one of the world's wealthiest media executives, with a net worth of $8.3 billion, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.
Conservative power broker
Murdoch's perch as head of Fox and News Corp. gave him enormous sway in anglophone conservative circles, with outlets such as Fox News credited with boosting the careers and policies of numerous right-leaning politicians.
"He used the outlets in the U.K., Australia and the U.S. to achieve certain types of policy outcomes and particularly certain types of political results, earning favors from politicians whose able trade in for political advantage," David Folkenflik, author of "Murdoch's World: The Last of the Old Media Empires" and NPR's media correspondent, told CBS News.
He added, "Think of the invasion of Iraq in 2003, which he promoted through Fox News, through the New York Post and the Weekly Standard, which gave ballast to [then-President] George Bush."
But Murdoch's support of conservative viewpoints also fed into political outcomes now viewed as "disastrous," such as Brexit in the U.K., Folkenflik added. And in the U.S., Murdoch privately disparaged former President Donald Trump even as some Fox News hosts were promoting his falsehoods about the 2020 presidential election, with the latter leading to Fox News' massive settlement with Dominion.
Murdoch allowed Fox News hosts to promote election conspiracies "in order to try to hold on to Trump's core voters who were many of Fox News' core viewers," Folkenflik said.
"Time is right"
In the statement, Lachlan Murdoch said his father would "continue to provide valued counsel to both companies."
"We thank him for his vision, his pioneering spirit, his steadfast determination, and the enduring legacy he leaves to the companies he founded and countless people he has impacted," he said.
With Rupert Murdoch stepping back from a leadership role, Lachlan Murdoch's role is solidified as his father's successor, and he will oversee tabloids including the New York Post as well as Fox News and Fox Entertainment.
In a memo shared with CBS News, Murdoch underscored that he is stepping back while he's in good health, but added that the "time is right for me to take on different roles."
"Our companies are in robust health, as am I," he said in the memo.
The media mogul added that Lachlan Murdoch is "absolutely committed to the cause of freedom," while also aiming a potshot at "elites" who have "open contempt for those who are not members of their rarefied class."
Start in newspapers
Murdoch, a native Australian who later became a U.S. citizen, was born into the media business, as his father owned several Australian newspapers.
When Murdoch was studying at Oxford University, his father died, putting his 21-year-old son in charge of The News and The Sunday Times. Murdoch soon boosted the papers' circulation by reorienting their coverage to focus on scandal, sex and crime — a formula he would hone over his decades-long career.
In the 1960s, Murdoch began acquiring other Australian newspapers, eventually controlling two-thirds of that country's newspaper circulation. In the 1970s, he expanded outside the country, taking over the News of the World and The Sun in the U.K. and The San Antonio Express-News, New York Post and Village Voice in the U.S.
In 1985, Murdoch united several TV stations under the umbrella of Fox Corp. and then Fox News, which soon overtook ABC, CBS and NBC in viewership.
Murdoch's personal life was nearly as colorful as the stories in the tabloids he owned, with the family's internal power struggles said to have inspired the hit HBO series "Succession."
Who is Lachlan Murdoch?
The issue of succession at News Corp. and Fox has been a matter of speculation, given that three of Rupert Murdoch's grown children have been involved in the media industry and the family businesses to various extents.
Lachlan Murdoch, 52, currently serves as the executive chair and CEO of Fox Corp., and in previous years served as the publisher of the New York Post and oversaw book publisher HarperCollins. In 2015, Lachlan and his brother James, 50, were appointed to leadership positions within the family's media business, prompting speculation that the pair were competing to succeed their father.

Russia continues dangerous flights in Syria, risking 'international incident'
Fernando Valduga By Fernando Valduga 05/01/2023 - 23:34 in Military, War Zones
Russian aircraft flew close to U.S. forces in Syria almost two dozen times last week, while Russian warplanes continue their aggressive maneuvers in the country, according to U.S. officials.
Since March 1, Russian warplanes have violated airspace in Syria, which was supposed to be controlled by the U.S., 85 times and carried out 26 armed overflights from American positions, said Air Force Central spokeswoman Captain Lauren T. Linscott, on April 28.
Tumblr media
This marks an increase of 22 incidents since the Air Force Central began to sound the alarm on April 19, when it accounted for 63 violations. The number of armed overflights remains unchanged. Sometimes Russian warplanes fly 150 meters from U.S. Air Force aircraft.
Russians are not the only problem. The U.S. also faced deadly attacks by Iran-backed militia groups on U.S. facilities in eastern Syria, the most recent of which occurred on April 10.
On March 23, a U.S. contractor was killed in Hasakah, Syria, in a drone attack. The contractor was a maintainer working on vehicles used by the Joint Terminal Attack Controllers (JTACs) that support U.S. Air Force operations, a U.S. officer revealed.
Tumblr media
Two U.S. Air Force F-15Es Strike Eagles responded by launching attacks on facilities linked to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps. Iranian forces then launched their own response with more air strikes.
Iranian and Russian threats are increasingly interconnected, a U.S. official said. Iran is providing drones for Russia to use against Ukraine. In turn, Iranian authorities said they received the promise of Russian fighters. U.S. commanders in the region, including the commander of the Air Force Central, Lieutenant General Alexus G. Grynkewich, expressed concern about the growing alignment of both sides.

At the time of the deadly attack, the USAF was struggling to meet its capacity requirements of two and a half squadrons. Since then, the U.S. has rushed combat power in the region, accelerating the planned deployment of A-10s in late March, just a few days after the attack. The U.S. also deployed the Ohio-Class cruise missile submarine USS Florida to CENTCOM and extended the deployment of the aircraft carrier USS George H.W. Bush in the Mediterranean Sea. A U.S. official said that these movements were intended to signal to the groups to no longer attack American personnel.
In addition, a Russian surface-to-air missile of an SA-22 system almost hit a U.S. MQ-9 in a November 27 incident. The U.S. does not know the intention of the Russian forces that fired the missile, according to American authorities. The episode is the only publicly released incident of a Russian surface-to-air attack on a U.S. aircraft in Syria.

“It is not clear whether Russian forces were trying to reach the MQ-9,” said U.S. Central Command spokesman Colonel Joe Buccino, adding that there have been no similar incidents since then.
“We recognize that this type of activity by Russia is very inappropriate,” said Pentagon press secretary Brig. General Patrick S. Ryder on April 27. "It's also very dangerous. But we are not trying to come into conflict with Russia, nor are we trying to divert attention from why we are there."

The U.S. is in Syria to fight ISIS, assisting local partner forces and conducting attacks against the militant group. Russia is supporting the regime of Bashar Al-Assad. Ryder refused to say whether the Pentagon believes that the recent provocative actions were ordered by Moscow.
The Air Force Center called the incidents "unsafe and unprofessional", which puts U.S. aviators and troops at risk. U.S. officials said they believe that U.S. forces will behave professionally and that the U.S. Air Force follows the appropriate protocols.
Tumblr media
U.S. officials say it is not clear exactly what motivated the Russian pilots, but they expressed concern that they may be trying to provoke an incident.
“They are trying to provoke a reaction,” said a U.S. official. "It is possible that they are trying to generate an international incident."

Star Wars ARG/Creepypasta AU (Kinda?)
Tumblr media
:Files of the Grand Army of the Republic:
File- The 666th Legion
Classification- [REDACTED]
____________________________________
Reports of a 666th Clone Legion from the Grand Army of the Republic have just been received from the Outer Rim to the office of the Chancellor.
Citizens from the region claim that they had been plagued by legions of battle droids when what seemed to be an abandoned Venator-Class cruiser. But it wasn’t, when the citizens saw gunships begin to leave the hangar of the ship.
When the gunships landed, Clones began to leave the ship, but they were all from different legions and ranks. Commandos, ARC, ARF, Pilot, Covert OPs, even Marine Corps clones were falling upon the enemy. The citizens then proceeded to notice that the clones all appeared to be bloodied, mutated, and as they put, “broken and empty.”
After the droids were all destroyed with relative ease, what appeared to be the leader of the Legion approached them. They described the markings on the leader’s (which appears to be an ARC Trooper) armor being that of skulls and bones. The ARC Trooper simply asked if the citizens were okay, and when they nodded, the leader motioned for the troops to leave. As fast as they arrived, they left.
When orders were made to investigate this mystery legion, no discoveries were made. In fact, it seemed this was just a fairy tale made up by the planet’s citizens to try and get the Republic’s attention. Regardless, a squad of clone commandos were sent to the planet to investigate the scene of the fight.
The commandos reported in three days later, explaining what they saw. There was indeed a massive battlefield. But it was more easily described as a scrapyard. While there were shots made by both sides, the droids were literally torn apart. B2s, B1s, Commando Droids, Spider Droids, even Droidekas were all torn apart. The commandos also said there wasn’t a single clone body seen on the field.
They then reported an odd symbol made on some of the droids. Where the chest of some of the droids was a Republic insignia burned into the droids’ metal. The commandos located the citizens that made the report and asked about the burned insignias. The citizens stated they didn’t see any signs of the droids being burned with those insignias.
It has since been determined that this 666th Legion is the result of a Kaminoian experiment gone horribly wrong.
The Commandos ordered to this mission, Target Squad, have been researching and hunting down clues for this mystery Legion for the past few months. They have since made little progress, but made a few discoveries. One being the experimentations.
A Kaminoian scientist named Beasly Dire had been quite a well known scientist when their experiments were discovered by the others, and even to the other Kaminoians he had gone too far, being exiled to another hidden facility. That Facility has yet to be discovered, since all records have been erased.
Other sightings of the 666th Legion have also since been sighted. All ending the same.
With a scrapyard of droid parts.
Further Investigation is required.
Until More Information is Revealed,
-Commander Fox

Racist Coalition Weaponizing Immigration
Tumblr media
Peter Dutton and the Coalition have been whipping up fear among Australians. Racist Coalition weaponizing immigration by accusing the government of releasing dangerous detainees into the community. It was in actual fact the High Court of Australia that ordered these men who had served their sentences must be released. The frenzy over their release into the community has culminated with Victoria Police wrongly arresting one of the released detainees for sex crimes. Mistaken identity or just white folk paranoia pointing the finger at any Arab looking character? Dog whistling Dutton does not care what damage he causes to people’s lives. Politics is everything to the very rich landlord Dutton and his party of shrill acolytes.
Tumblr media
Dutton Has Been Crying Wolf About The Boats Again
Refugees coming to Australia illegally by boat have been winners for the nasty Tony Abbott and a succession of LNP leaders since John Howard. Peter Dutton is hoping that he can resurrect the xenophobia so beloved of his predecessors. Racist Coalition weaponizing immigration issues is a vote winner in times gone by. Whether Australia has cottoned onto the political chicanery by now, we will have to wait and see. The LNP strategists would be looking to Trump in the US for ideas and inspiration, as little old Australia always does. “Opposition Leader Peter Dutton has attacked Labor’s immigration record, claiming 105,000 asylum seekers have entered Australia since Anthony Albanese’s government was elected. This is false. The 105,000 figure relates to the number of asylum seekers in Australia at the end of August 2023. Most were already in the country at the time of the May 2022 federal election. The majority of asylum seekers currently residing in Australia arrived during the 2013-2022 coalition government. Tumblr media
the fear monger! Peter Dutton The Putin Of Oz I think, also, that Peter Dutton sees himself as the Putin of Oz, the strongman of Australian politics. Dutton is never afraid to go the low blow in terms of attacking the vulnerable if there are political points to be scored. It is rumoured that Dutton is worth some $300 million from property development and land lording. Wealth  makes many people feel inviolable and above reproach – the billionaire syndrome. No wonder he is always championing the propertied classes and the big end of town over ordinary working Australians.

Murdoch’s News Corp Cheering For Dutton & Xenophobic Politics Murdoch and News Corp are pumping up every news story with as much polarization appeal as possible. They have led the way with their Fox News in America with blatantly one sided reporting helping divide that country to extreme violence. Rupert has said that he is not red or blue but green, as in greenbacks. That is the kind of man he is and thank God he is no longer an Australian. His newspapers and Sky News Australia are, of course, rabidly right wing and pro-Coalition. Objective reporting died and left the room decades ago at News Corp. They are cheer leaders for extreme reactionary conservatives. Thankfully, younger Australians don’t read newspapers or tune into Rupert’s cable TV offerings. A future without the vituperative BS from Murdoch’s editorial team would be a real blessing. Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It is well into the gala, and Reyhan’s missed the opening, not that it matters, since they are a pupil of Virgil’s, and one grand lesson from the holy Maestro is never let someone else make your entrance. After the media horde swarms the B-listers who think that somehow being bit players in Cerberus Corp’s “real-action” TV gives them an excuse for talent, Puppeteer commandeers the stage with exquisite couture. Face-painted to account for the simple caged mask they wear that highlights the once-inured scar that adorns their visage, they preen in their cape, composed entirely of black, swan-like vegan feathers.
The Met Gala this is not; it’s a black-tie formal wear as requested by… who were they, again? Some tech start-up from Norway? Reyhan doesn’t do business; they leave that to their stuffy financial advisor at 1585 Broadway. Regardless, the dancer is less enthused that the invite isn’t personalized. However, they love a good reason to dress up and monitor their beloved out of costume. The gossip sites they’ve triple-checked seem to imply that all members of the Corp will be there, and who better to represent the Company than their brightest star? Oh, it’ll be a quintessential stage for Act Two in the triple-bill performance of Whirlpool and Puppeteer—
—Was what Reyhan had presumed the night would be.
Instead, the lovely Cassian must’ve been spirited away by a plebian in need since Reyhan cannot locate him anywhere, and it’s almost an hour into the event since their arrival. If it weren’t for a Commonwealth balanced in the poised net of their fingers, Reyhan would’ve checked out and gone to SoHo for a lustrous start to their December. The gala is an atonal affair, open ballrooms and liquor enough to put Prohibition back on the map, backdropped by some science displays that Reyhan cannot make heads or tails out of — a waste for the Ritz-Carlton since it’s dawning on Reyhan that these people, Enderson, was it? have invited just about anyone off the street!
“Songstress,” Reyhan sighs loudly to their conspiring conversationalist, pointing at some banal attempt at black tie, “I found another. When will people learn it’s perfectly fine for spezzato at parties? Now they’re no different from the waitstaff, who the event organizers also decided should dress in black and white.”
Songstress isn’t a staple of Puppeteer’s in-costume crew, but her alter ego, Himiko Yamada, is superbly useful in Reyhan Maximiliano Cisneros’ ascent to nouveau Club Kid status. They must thank their remarkable talents: a single touch and the body spills all truths. Himiko’s identity was as good as a read book once her limbs spoke to them. In comparison, Reyhan’s confident Himiko hasn’t put two and two together about their identity, and they aren’t hurrying to intercommunicate. Just like their laundry, Reyhan prefers to do it separately.
Tumblr media
“How many do we have on our list for Class B for ‘boring,’ again?” Reyhan asks and swirls their glass before taking a sip. Their eyes jeté among the crowd coming in and how droll, another flood of inky, monotonous black — then they almost choke on their drink.
“What?!” Reyhan exclaims, springing from their lounge chair, veins tandemly leaping in their neck. Across the room is a certifiable silver fox [@mincedoaths; dead ringer] in a backless slit dress and an immaculate je ne sais quoi attitude. Reyhan has never wished more than to be… (gasp)… another person. They drop their glass to the floor, ignoring the shattering of the crystal goblet as the one in their ego breaks in Ligeti’s Etude No. 13.
“S-songstress. Are you seeing. What I am. Seeing.” The words manage to break out of the bars of their teeth.

Media mogul Rupert Murdoch says he is stepping down as chairman of Fox and News Corp, with his son Lachlan to head both companies.
In a memo to employees, Murdoch said “the time is right” for him to take on “different roles”.
Murdoch, 92, launched Fox News in 1996. It is now the most watched TV news channel in the US.
Murdoch said he will transition to the role of Chairman Emeritus of both firms in mid-November.
“Our companies are in robust health, as am I. Our opportunities far exceed our commercial challenges,” he wrote. “We have every reason to be optimistic about the coming years – I certainly am, and plan to be here to participate in them.”

Murdoch’s succession drama reaches its finale
Lachlan Murdoch, 52, is the son of Rupert Murdoch and his second wife, Anna Maria dePeyster. The billionaire patriarch has been married four times and has six children – many of whom followed their father into the family business.
The question of succession had largely come down to the second, third and fourth – Elisabeth, Lachlan and James.
Lachlan, 52, emerged as the heir apparent during his time as an executive in the late 1990s. However, he left the business in 2005 after a feud with then boss of Fox News, Roger Ailes. Lachlan returned to his father’s empire in 2014 and has held top positions ever since.
James Murdoch, the more liberally-minded son, quit the News Corp board in 2020 because of “disagreements over certain editorial content” and other grievances with the direction of the company.
Elisabeth, 55, held various high-ranking roles in the business but started her own television company, Shine, which produced shows like MasterChef and The Biggest Loser.
BBC/Getty
The transition comes during a turbulent year for Fox, which in April agreed to pay a $787.5m (£634m) settlement after being sued by voting machine company Dominion over its reporting of the 2020 presidential election.
The network is still facing a second, similar lawsuit from another voting technology firm, Smartmatic, seeking an even larger sum of $2.7bn.
Then on 25 April, Fox announced it would “part ways” with Tucker Carlson, its highest rated TV host – amid reports the decision came from the very top.
The Murdoch move falls a year before the US presidential election, in which right-leaning Fox News has significant influence. The network is hosting a number of debates between Republicans vying to be the party’s 2024 White House candidate.
How Murdoch ditches politicians… including Trump
Journalist Michael Wolff is set to release a highly anticipated tell-all book about Fox’s ruling family in just a few days, titled “The Fall: The End of Fox News and the Murdoch Dynasty”. A second Murdoch book, by CNN media journalist Brian Stelter, will be published on 14 November.
In his memo to staff, Rupert Murdoch vowed to continue to be involved in the “contest of ideas”.
He also criticised other media outlets as being “in cahoots” with a “rarefied class” of elites who he accused of “peddling political narratives rather than pursuing the truth”.
In a statement, Lachlan Murdoch said that his father “will continue to provide valued counsel to both companies”.

The elder Murdoch began his career in his native Australia in the 1950s, eventually buying the News of the World and The Sun newspapers in the UK in 1969.
He later purchased a number of US publications including the New York Post and Wall Street Journal. Through News Corp, he remains the owner of hundreds of local, national and international media outlets.
His career, however, has not been without its mishaps. In 2005, for example, he bought the social media site Myspace for more than half a billion dollars. It was crushed by Facebook and later sold for just $35m.
His most damaging moment in the UK was the notorious phone hacking scandal, which erupted after it emerged that the News of the World had listened to the murdered schoolgirl Milly Dowler’s voicemails. It was a humiliation for Murdoch personally – and came at huge financial cost. His company is reported to have paid more than £1bn in pay-outs to phone hacking victims.
Until today’s announcement, Lachlan Murdoch had served as the executive chair of Fox Corporation and Nova Entertainment.
Fox shares rose almost 2% after the news, while News Corps shares rose a more modest 0.6%.
Professor Anat Alon-Beck, a corporate law expert, said that ultimately market reaction to Lachlan’s promotion will depend on whether Fox has a “solid and smart” plan that ensures “that the company’s leadership isn’t jeopardised just because the most powerful person, CEO, leaves the role”.
While Lachlan was the expected choice to replace his father, it is unclear what will happen when the elder Murdoch dies.
Any transfer of shares from Murdoch to his six adult children could potentially set the stage for a battle for the future of the media empire.
