We paid homage to Heavenly Birthday Boy Fred Willard, comic genius and gentle, sweet man. Miss him very much––grateful as hell to have known him and to be able to tune into his brilliance at will. Fred’s Jerry Hubbard from Fernwood 2 Night will remain a personal favorite. We talked the holiday, moms, jewelry, Crystal’s feathers, algorithms that make no sense, The Morning Show, what’s happened to Jennifer, Speed for a great action adventure, and Breaking Bad redux for a worthy binge fix.

Before roseanne barr was batshit crazy (or at least hid it better) her og show was wildly pro #lgbtq based on two of her siblings being #queer (and working on the show which she single handedly controlled). At a time when gay was considered ‘fixable’ by society she had this convo, which is both funny and correct as sexuality isnt a choice

Americathon (1979)
In today's review, I bet the future of the nation on generous donators like you. As I attempt a #positive review of the 1979 satire Americathon #JohnRitter #HarveyKorman #PeterRiegert #FredWillard #JayLeno
Politics is a lot like show business, you make many speeches, you flash a couple of winning smiles, and generally put on a show, all while the issues facing the average person on the street grow exponentially. As true today as it will probably be true in the future. In 1979, as the future was approaching, a film offered a cynical combination between the dire circumstances of the then-future and…

WALL-E (2008)
Tumblr media
If you didn't see WALL-E or it isn't fresh in your mind, you don’t even know what you are missing. This is an enchanting film. It was one of the year's best when it came out and still resonates just as strongly years later.
Set in the far future, Earth has become a literal dump. Garbage is piled sky high and humanity abandoned the planet centuries ago. On the surface, the only sign of life isn’t alive at all. A tiny robot named WALL-E who has been cleaning up the surface for who knows how long. When a probe comes to determine if the planet has become habitable again, WALL-E is immediately smitten by the robotic EVE.
If you needed more proof of Andrew Stanton and Pixar studios' title as expert filmmakers, this is it. In 2009, District 9 made us sympathize with creepy bugs. One year prior, Wall-E made us believe in a genuine, deep romance between two robots… without using any dialogue. This movie is about more than this relationship, but I want to address it first. Although we are following two mechanical objects, WALL-E and EVE are true, three-dimensional, living, breathing characters. WALL-E is delightfully eccentric. "He" likes music, dancing (well, what a legless droid can pass for dancing), collecting, and is fiercely loyal. There are so many laugh-out-loud moments as the little machine takes a break from his regular duties to sift through humanity’s garbage (often being fascinated by mundane things and tossing away precious objects like they were nothing). You fall in love with the little guy. When he happens upon a new robot, excitement fills your every pore. Will EVE respond with affection? She seems awfully trigger-happy to be a love interest. How will her mission objective impact the story?
This film is more than romantic sequences and big laughs. It’s also a great adventure. There's plenty of tension as our heroes find themselves in unexpected peril - tension made thicker and more nerve-wracking because the characters are so memorable and endearing. It’s also a smart science fiction film that serves as a cautionary tale (the best science fiction stories often do). All of these elements are expertly integrated to feel organic, accessible, and genuinely moving. While Illumination relied on cartoonish villains that even the most “evil” corporate fat cats would recognize as ridiculous, WALL-E uses subtlety and proves a thousand times more effective - even without dialogue.
There's nothing not to like about WALL-E. It has learned from the very best silent films to cut out all the unnecessary dialogue. Instead, it uses its characters' performances, the visuals, and its imagination to say so much more. Its poignant drama, thrills, and laughs give it universal appeal. Even the end credits are spectacular. (On Blu-ray, July 3, 2015)

Happy birthday to the late great Fred Willard! Sadly, Fred passed away earlier this year. He would’ve turned 87 today. Fortunately, the legendary funny man left us with over 30+ years of entertainment! Some of our favorite performances are from Christopher Guest’s Best in Show, Waiting For Guffman, & The Mighty Wind! What’s your favorite FW movie/tv/role? ❤️📼❤️ • •• ••• #fredwillard #actor #comedian #improv #birthday #vhs #vcr #videostore #podcast #80spodcast #80s #90s #2000s #christopherguest #bestinshow #waitingforguffman #themightywind #roxanne #stevemartin #anchorman #willferrell https://www.instagram.com/p/CFR4w-flqK_/?igshid=1j32hxgu5u7oe

Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy (2004)
Tumblr media
Will Ferrel has a distinct comedic style. Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy is the best example of it. If you like this, consider his other works too. Even if it's your cup of tea, this film contains innumerable quotable lines, memorable characters, and unforgettable gags.
Set in the '70s, “a time where men were men”; Ron Burgundy (Ferrell) is the face of KVWN channel 4 news San Diego. Burgundy and his posse of half-wits, Champ Kind (David Koechner), Brian Fantana (Paul Rudd), and noticeably dim Brick Tamland (Steve Carell) are like gods among men. They rule the ratings, get the girls, and are the envy of all. When a beautiful female reporter named Veronica Corningstone (Christina Applegate) begins working at the station, Ron falls for her. A woman reporting the news already signaled the end of an era. This? it practically spells doom for them all.
Anchorman is delightfully absurd. It’s full of great quotes and moments that don’t make any sense but are too funny to question. You can tell everyone was having a blast trying to come up with outlandish expletives or zany lines to see who could make the rest of the crew break character and laugh. It’s infectious. Ron and his friends are so naive, so full of themselves, so narcissistic, chauvinistic, and egotistical it passes the point of being offensive and becomes hilarious instead. The men working at KVWN are all fools who think themselves so charming. They picture Veronica for a pushover they'll easily bed and humiliate, but there's no contest between them. She's a real person. Everyone else is drawn with the same strokes. The rival news anchors, children on the street, even the animals of this world come from a different dimension where nicknaming your testicles is seen as macho and silliness is plentiful. Even when Ron and his friends are being misogynist, they're too ineffectual to offend. Ron is so stupid he actually believes pretending you know things and attempting to prove it is preferable to asking for help. He just keeps digging his own grave.
The movie is full of lines you'll love to quote. Anytime someone says "I love you", you'll automatically answer with “I love lamp”. Anyone who hears will know exactly what you're talking about, and it's just one of at least a hundred throwaway gags. That's what you get when you assemble a dynamite team of comedians like this one. Even Christina Applegate, whom you normally wouldn't associate with this type of humor does very well for herself.
The brand of comedy featured in Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy won’t be for everyone. The characters are not deep. The plot is never insightful. Its only objective is to fire off wild characters and silly gags. Sometimes, the Will Ferrel/Adam McKay team makes for less-than-desirable results (*cough* Step Brothers *cough*) sometimes, you get non-stop gut-busters like in Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy. (Unrated cut on Blu-ray, June 30, 2015)
