The Clone Wars Gets A New Victim is complete. Over one year since I started writing I have finished this project. 160k words and 524 pages later. I have finished The Clone Wars Gets A New Victim. I started writing this story in October of 2021, but in reality I've had the idea of this story since I first created Grim Kennet in 2020. Three years ago this Friday on the 24th.

I never expected so many people to enjoy my story and Grim's character. And to be honest, I don't think I really believed I would finish this story. But I did. Thank y'all so much for sticking around while I worked on this story. Although I may have finished writing The Clone Wars Gets A New Victim, Grim's story is far from over. Thank you.

I finished it. Holy crap.

I am literally half a sentence away from finishing my WIP. That has never happened with anything over maybe 5000 words. This is a couple hundred over 35,000. I only started it on June 20th and it is *half a sentence* away from being done.

It's a Fast & Furious Au of the first movie, the premise is what if it all happened right after Brian got out of juvie instead of after a few years as a cop. It's very heavily leaning on the idea of found family, parts are definitely cheesy, and the plot is basically 'the team finds out Brian is a narc and this actually makes a lot of things better'. I love every word and will post a link below in case anyone is interested (lol, I'd love that), but that's not really the point. I spent so long *not* finishing things. I have things written that are far longer than this, like +100,000. Things that deal with topics this briefly touches or skirts past because it is mostly meant to be a feel good piece with (hopefully) depth. Things that I spent years on. Some of them aren't even fanfiction, lol.

But I finished this. I did it, actually went back and finished the one sentence left in the middle of writing this post. In less than three months. I am both incredibly proud of myself and like, kind of in shock. It's done. It feels like this means I can do it. Writing everyday (almost) wound up being easier than I expected, and I do better with a steady routine anyway. I've just started a new job and won't have as much free time, but What it is exactly, other than 'keep writing things and finishing them' I don't really know. But still. It.

I both do and don't regret posting it on AO3 before it was finished. If I hadn't I'd probably let it sit for a month, do a general pass over it and then do one specifically to add more descriptions of sounds, smells, probably colors. Areas I really want to flesh out in my writing. Make things pop. On the other hand, having people subscribe, bookmark, leave kudos and especially comments, was incredibly encouraging and had me wanting to finish each pov piece so I could post and see the reactions. Some of the comments had me exploring things I might not have otherwise,and the sense of community when a comment and my response turned into a discussion was *chef's kiss*. But what might I have come up without them that could have been just as interesting to explore?

Also, if anyone is looking for a quality writing book I highly recommend Several Short Sentences About Writing by Verlyn Klinkenborg. I haven't read any of his other stuff yet, but I need to, because oh boy, did I love this book. Like reading prose poetry, yet it is an incredibly clear and easy read that taught me so much. It definitely impacted my writing here and will do so in the future.

Summary:

Slowing now, and motioning for Jesse to stay back and keep low, Vince started sidling around the side of the house, following sounds of muffled moving, a few thumps. If the Buster was over here fucking shit up for fun or to let off steam, he was gonna kick him square in his ass. Maybe the balls too, for good measure. But no, squatting down in the overgrown grass so he could see down into the daylight basement, that wasn’t what the Buster was doing. What he was doing was getting slammed back into a concrete wall so his head cracked against it, a real official looking guy in a suit shouting in the kid’s face. This time when Vince told Jesse what to do there was no protest, his wiry legs eating up the ground as he ran for home and Dom.

I saw one scruffy older Cora-san design and had to draw my take on it immediately, with a bonus Law to fill space.

You can say a lot of things about One Piece Odyssey, but it did give us a Law & Cora tag-team fight in which Law shambled to the location of Cora's bullets and that is just objectively cool.

I can’t believe I went through all of Season 2 assuming Nina was the stand-in for Crowley when you actually pay attention it’s so CLEAR that she’s Aziraphale. I was tricked by her spiky, sarcastic, cynical outer shell and lulled into a false sense of security by Maggie’s bubbly optimism and wholesome goodness, because on the surface they reflect the ineffable husbands perfectly, in their personalities, their aesthetics, even many of their actions and morals. but not, and this is the real key, when it comes to their “relationship”. but those first impressions really had me damn fooled. 

I missed the blatantness of Nina’s “we’re just friends. actually we’re not friends. we barely know each other.” the same thing Aziraphale said in season 1.  the way he still struggles to quantify their friendship when Nina asks. Nina’s sarcasm when Crowley asks about rain and awnings because it worked for him (we all know it LMAO). hell, that whole convo the girls have in the rain is so AziraCrow (“I know. I’m not your type” “...You have no idea” hits so much harder the second time, help meeeee.) “Lindsay” maybe being symbolic of Heaven and Aziraphale’s toxic relationship with them and their abuse? (the handwritten text messages in red pen make me think of angry notes on paperwork, anyone else?) because Crowley has never actually cared about what Hell thinks of him, just not getting into trouble (or him or Aziraphale getting hurt). Maggie is always chasing Nina. NINA NEVER GOES IN THE RECORD STORE. Just like Crowley always goes to the bookstore, to Aziraphale, Zira NEVER WENT TO THE FLAT (apart from The Swap but that doesn’t count imo). Crowley has always chased Zira, not the other way around. Always there to rescue him, always going to him for company, always relying on their shared connection, always US. OUR SIDE. All through season one, he comes to Zira every time to work together, never trying to work alongside Hell in any way that isn’t to save their skins or Earth, while Zira hides things from Crowley because he STILL thinks Heaven is ultimately good and will do the right thing if he can just show them. fix it from the inside. 

Maggie working up the courage to finally say something, to put herself out there, while Nina is utterly oblivious and then when she does realise Maggie has feelings, becoming standoffish, putting up that barrier, fighting it, denying it, ITS SO CROWLEY AND AZIRAPHALE IN THAT ORDER. the way I was fooled into thinking Nina’s trust issues are Crowley because he does have trust issues ofc he does BUT Crowley has ALWAYS TRUSTED AZIRAPHALE. has always relied on him. has always been hurt when Aziraphale doesn’t immediately reciprocate the way he expects (the holy water request, the bandstand, the “off in the stars” etc). he’s always the one putting himself forward. Aziraphale has always been the one to second guess everything, to fight their connection, their similarities, their friendship. the girls really made me think it was going to be okay when they sat Crowley down, even as my inner sirens were going haywire about Metatron interfering, they were telling Crowley he just needs to open up and it’ll all work out BUT HE’S ALREADY AT THAT POINT. he may not say it, and by gosh is that part of their damn problem, but he’s always SHOWN IT. he’s not Nina who needs time to heal and recover from her broken trust, he’s always been Maggie believing it doesn’t matter, they’ll end up together in the end anyway AND I WALKED RIGHT INTO THE TRAP THAT THIS MEANT THEY WERE GOING TO BE OKAYYYYYYYYYYY
