I do like Raverne though, I think it's got a nice fancy sound to it! (I had kinda suspected it was going to be an R instead of an L, so the fact that it's SO close to Laverne except for that is hilarious to me personally.) and Dragoneye Duke is honestly probably the best translation for his title, I wasn't envying the localizers that one. :') Baur instead of Baul I was NOT expecting, but in retrospect I think his name's supposed to be a reference to the Bauru crocodile, so that actually makes way more sense!

someone else also said Meleanor has become Maleanor, which is the REALLY weird one to me, because I was so surprised it was written as Mel instead of Mal in the first place?! oh god no I can't decide which one I like better. 😭 (I wonder if they might change it to Mal...they have made romanization changes before) (like I remember House of Distraction being corrected to House of Destruction in Playful Land) (I did check and she's still Mel for now, but I dunno, they might Mal her up and some point and save me from having to make a decision about which one to use) (HECK I CAN'T DECIDE)

But there are also a ton of different adaptations that each do a slightly different thing with the story and characters. #Personally I loved The Untamed (Netflix live action) for how campy the action was. It got emotional but really...It made me laugh. #And I love watching it with people because it also makes them laugh. #(The Untamed changes a lot of plot elements so it isn't looked upon very favourably by many fans. I love it as its own thing) #Don't get me wrong; it *is* a story with interesting things to say and I certainly have written tons of analysis on it. #But it's also a series I spent over a year making parody comics of. It comes from a place of love! #The audio drama is really good and I think it might be the best form of mdzs...however finding episodes is not easy. #The audio drama is also what I'm basing all these comics on! #There is a book (the primary source) An animated series and a comic to check out as well. #Someone probably has a better pitch and recommendation list than I do. So in different scenes, especially in the endings of every episode of the first season, like during the credits, you probably noticed that the way the art style looks changes. It gets streaky and kind of blurred and textured and it kind of looks like paint.

Well guess what. It IS paint. Actual real paint.

The technique is called paint-on-glass animation, and it’s a really rare kind of animation. Like you NEVER see it it's so rare.

To make paint-on-glass animations, you need to take a slow drying kind of paint, (most people use oil or gouache), apply it to a smooth surface like glass or a whiteboard, and move it around into the different scenes before it dries.

It SOUNDS easy but it absolutely is not. The reason that it’s so rare is that it’s super labor intensive and difficult to do. I've tried to use it maybe twice and it’s genuinely so frustrating and hard. You have to get every try perfect because it’s so hard to reverse the work you’ve already done, and you’re constantly in a race against time. Even though they paint the animators use is slow drying, painting even one slide is so time consuming that it dries anyways.

The paint can’t be too wet or it’ll smear and blend too much, and it can’t be too dry for obvious reasons. Paint-on-glass animation is HARD and I’m so in awe of anyone who can do it well.

Mob Psycho doesn't just have it as a one-off thing, they use it MULTIPLE times, and the ending scenes with it are about 90 minutes. That's HOURS of intensive, detailed work. You can tell exactly how much love and dedication went into this show.

Oh and from what I've read, all of the paint-on-glass animation they used in Mob Psycho was done by a woman named Miyo Sato. ONE PERSON. ONE PERSON DID ALL OF THAT. ARE YOU JOKING? THATS INCREDIBLE.

When I say she was painting each scene on a glass frame by herself and she actively had to physically move everyone and everything in the scenes around I'm not joking. That is serious dedication and love and I love this show and all of the animators so much you don't understand.

OH AND DID I MENTION THAT SHE HAD TO ANIMATE MOB AND REIGEN WALKING MULTIPLE TIMES? BECAUSE SHE DID. Do you know how hard it is to make that look right in NORMAL animation? SO HARD. MIYO SATO I LOVE YOU YOURE SO IMPRESSIVE.

And another thing that gets me about the human condition is how we weren't even meant to survive this world alone - humans with humans. We chose to trust certain animals, to nourish them, to be symbiotic with them, to love them like we love ourselves. I think a lot of people talk about how selfish it is for humans to take advantage of animals, but I think that's too simplistic. It's closer to friendship - if you do not foster the relationship, then it simply won't go anywhere, and I think the implication that animals can't ever know anything for themselves, for their survival, is also human-centric and selfish (selfishness not inherently being a bad thing).

It's just nice to know that we want to be around people - we want to be around comfort and security and safety so much that we now have animals by our side. Every time I cuddle with my cat, I think that we weren't meant to survive this world alone; she is shaped to fit in my chest, and my arms were made to wrap around her.

I wish there were more restaurants with affordable prix fixe or tasting menus. I would love for nice but not ridiculously fancy restaurants to basically say "here is what we're sure is good today, you can eat that or maybe one or two other things. Otherwise come back in 2-3 days and see if that's more interesting."

it’s been a couple days since we saw Nope and Oh My God I Cannot Stop Thinking About Jean Jacket. it’s a ufo. it’s an alien. it’s a force of nature. it’s an animal. a wild animal. a hungry, territorial, untameable predator. it’s a spectacle. an object of attention, obsession. an exploited show pony. a must-see event. with its gigantic screen-shaped eye it in itself IS a horror movie, a theater of billowing, constricting curtains and played back screams. it’s the viewed. it’s the Viewers. it’s the lens of the camera watching, capturing the image, of a black man on a horse. it’s an eye. it’s a mouth. it’s both, good god, it’s both. it ravenously consumes all who looks upon it and all it looks upon in return. it’s the perfect kind of movie monster that we as an audience are so horrified to look at, but the monster, in so many ways, is also us. it’s just us. we’re looking at a reflection, and it startles us, scares us. just like lucky at the beginning of the movie.

and it’s just fantastic.
