Horrible, awful habit of running my thumb on my lip when I think. Holding the tip of it between my teeth, letting it rest on the swell of my bottom lip, letting my tongue just barely touch the very tip of it; cannot - will not - stop thinking about Neuvillette fixating on it.
It's nothing significant - it should be nothing significant - but oh. There's something about it. The motion of your thumb running over the deep curve of your bottom lip, up along the crest and pausing on the dip of your cupid's bow, before continuing its path back down to settle back in the middle of your bottom lip; as though it's a pillow for it to rest while you gather your thoughts. The indentation as you push down ever so slightly, just enough to let the tip slide in. It's barely enough to even count as your mouth being open; your lips are too full to let more than the barest hint of teeth show where they're lightly closed around your nail. Your tongue is just barely raised to meet the intrusion. It's almost an invisible action, but he can see the tiniest flicker of movement when your tongue presses against the tip, and it makes something in him ache.
Neuvillette doesn't understand it; how something so innocent, so casual, could send these licks of desire straight through him. How, even though it does not (fully) distract him from the topic at hand, he finds himself following every move with his eyes while you're blissfully unaware. How he wonders if you'd make the same expression if it were his thumb against your lips. Or even, how you'd look if it were something else entirely -
It's not long before he slips up. His hand moves faster than yours, and while he tilts your chin up against his fingers his thumb rests against that curved swell of your lip; he's almost lost in the softness of it. He can feel your surprised gasp through the thin material of his glove along with the startled whisper of his name you let out and - oh, it sends a flame through him. He can't stop himself as he follows that familiar path, feeling the gentle dips that he's traced with his eyes so frequently.
He blinks. His mind catches up with his actions.
"Forgive me," said so calmly, as if Neuvillette's heart wasn't racing in his ears.
Yet he doesn't stop. He lets his thumb continue that path, rest on your cupid's bow, before coming back to rest on your bottom lip. Your lips are already parted, they have been the entire time, but he can't help but gently tug your lips down just a bit further. Just a little hint of that temptation -
"I was simply curious."
Surely you will pull away. Surely you will reprimand him for touching you so freely, so...wantonly.
"Only curious?"
For the first time since he'd moved, Neuvillette's eyes meet yours, and he can't describe the feeling curling through him when he sees that telltale spark in your eyes. Though, perhaps the softly stifled groan he lets out when you open your mouth oh so slightly to let his thumb rest against your teeth tells on his emotions more than he could put into words. You tease him with a bite and watch as his pupils dilate at the action, listen as he sucks in an uncharacteristically sudden breath. Relish in the hint of gravel that lingers on his exhale.
"...only curious." A lie. A blatant lie. But...perhaps it's one you can let him slip away with for now.

you know that art collab meme where one person does the sketch, one does the lineart, one does colors, shading, etc? it'd be really cool to see artists just. do that and be like "cool I did this part, who wants to take over?"
even if someone already did lines and color and shading, you could still do your own lines. or add color to multiple people's lines. there could be dozens of versions of the same picture, all with different combinations of artists
cause I think sometimes to unwind, artists have a favorite part of the process. some of us just like to do rough messy sketches of an idea. some like to zen out doing lines but don't have the energy to think of a good subject/composition. sometimes adding shadows and glowing light is the fun part!
idk I'm not a big artists able to start trends or anything but I think it'd be cute and fun to have a tag that says "yeah feel free to add to this and pass it on (or finish it)"
like... #opencollab or something? hmm

oh my fucking god i feel. SO stupid rn at How i didnt make the (super sane very normal just absolutely. Yes. Surely) connection earlier but uhh
so anyway im now like 89% certain that whatever the "traces" of the narwhal that remain on ajax and facilitate their (ever-growing) innate connection are like. an actually fundamental aspect of it (them?) more or less.
why? because if you consider its pov just for a moment. the narwhal was literally about to depart teyvat for good. it had nearly finished consuming the primordial sea and preparing to breach surface to finish the job by eating the french for the leftovers their human bodies were made from. its an interstellar voyager it does not linger on planets it devours. it goes glug glug and it leaves.
and like if it wasnt for traveler intervening its confirmed through narzissenkreuz and renes world formula that teyvat wouldve just been destroyed. no one could have stopped the narwhal not neuvillette not focalors not anyone.
so what was the one other thing it did right before going for that french brunch? calling for ajax. getting them reunited in the primordial sea. like all the possible implications aside bc theres many different ways to speculate on the exact reasons why and the nature of that link. the point remains.
it wasnt leaving teyvat without finding him.
like the narwhal is about to fucking Dip from this cringe planet and whatever part of it that ajax carries within himself his narwhal Absolutely wanted to be reunited with. what the fuck am i supposed to read from that. hoyo???????!??! answers?!?!?!
and its not only the calling from the narwhal side itself either bc this is ALL coinciding with the growth of a 'restless power' within ajax and his vision malfunctioning (the things celestia is literally confirmed to harvest energy thru to repair its damaged authority) and his connection with the narwhal reaching an actual conscious level (arguably subconscious n emotional too bc i find it Curious his mood is poor right as the narwhal is repeatedly described as positively malding to the point its boss fight mechanic is literally a rage meter). ajax' power is growing. his destiny is starting to shift and something is drawing him to fontaine... right as the narwhal is getting close to finished with the primordial sea. funny how it overlaps eh. how it aligns 🤨🤨 why are they orbiting each other like this (they should kiss)
(& not to even Mention how ajax just Happened to get that absolutely exponential and borderline unbelievable feat of power spike in extending his foul legacy endurance as massively as he did. while. within the primordial sea. with his narwhal. who had at that point all but incorporated the power of that sea into itself. i s2g if childe was getting passive home turf co-op bonus exp with a 4x multiplier automatically the whole 40+ days 💀💀)

In some alternate universe it's Neil who gets possessed and Billy teams up with the others to stop him and the mindflayer, just to distract his dad long enough that El can get in the finishing blow. And maybe he stays with the Mayfields officially, but he drops by Steve's place an awful lot. They drink. They talk. Their rivalry sort of reemerges in the form of them playing basketball and going swimming and ribbing each other mercilessly, just to drive back to Steve's place for pizza and a movie.
While they talk, Billy drops some of the facade he's had on for so long and regales Steve with one shitty restriction after another his dad used to pull on him. Of course Steve's being a bit awkward about how to deal with Billy being a bit (a lot) fucked in the head over his very dead dad for a while, because Billy hated Neil so much and was hurt so much, but he also craved his approval constantly. All he can do is say "wow, what an asshole" and make the dumbest jokes imaginable in the hopes that that's enough and it may not magically fix things but it certainly helps.
It breaks the tension. It helps make Billy crack up when he looks like he's about to cry.
Enough time spent in each other's pockets also brings the frustrating, yet somewhat hilarious realization that Steve, in turn, is also woefully blind to his own family's unique levels of shittyness. Solving problems with money and telling their son to get a job instead of checking in why he's in such a slump? Consistently talking about other people's achievements just to throw Steve judging glances? The drawn out absences and silence between then?
"Oh, that's just how they are," Steve shrugs, leaned casually against the Family Video counter as Robin shares an understanding look with Billy over Steve's shoulders.
