Hmm, I've loved a lot of the characters actually, but since I just finished Birth By Sleep I think I'll go with Aqua for my free character.

4) what about their personality i like

For Sora, it would be his unwavering determination to help his friends, and the fact that he's basically "power of friendship" incarnate. Sora's such a kindhearted person, and it's really nice to have a protagonist who's so unabashedly kind and, honestly, emotionally open as Sora is.

For Roxas, it would be how resilient he is, since I mean he starts off as this blank slate with no idea who he is or what he really wants to do, but as he starts to gain more of a sense of his "self", it was interesting to watch as he went from just blindly following the Organization's orders to actually questioning them, and then defying them, all while still barely having been in existence. I think how his anger and frustration was written really works too, as it reflects a lot of the anger and frustration that kids feel as they begin to get older and have to deal with a multitude of various changes, and how that's actually a common, albeit uncomfortable, aspect of growing up.

For Xion as well, watching her start as someone who was meant to be nothing but a puppet, come into her own sense of self and identity and struggle with the fact that she was never meant to exist as a person and yet still fighting to exist as a person, she has a lot of strength and resolve. I know she kinda "vanished" into Roxas and Sora, but I'm hoping she's able to come back and be allowed to be a person, and that she can like, finally be happy and allowed to exist with her friends.

For Aqua, it's the precarious balance of maturity and hopefulness she embodies. On one hand she ends up having to take up the mantle left to her by Eraqus, to learn how to be a Master in such a short time, to "become an adult" while she's still a kid because that is what is expected of her, and part of those expectations include reigning in Terra and Ventus. But even when she learns that Terra has succumb to the darkness on occasion, and that Ventus is more or less a weapon of mass destruction, she still chooses to believe in them, in the good in them, in the light in them, and she fights for them. Aqua doesn't follow the path Eraqus laid out for her, she makes her own and decides how she will be a Master, and it's not to simply abolish the darkness which would mean turning on her family, but that by believing in and fighting for her family that she will be able to save them and bring them back to the light. The type of hope she holds onto is not something Eraqus had, and I think it's part of the reason he screwed up so badly with Ventus and Terra, but she still has the sense of duty to become a great Master. (I know stuff Happens with her later, but shh, let me have this for now).

6) the moment of theirs that made me the saddest

For Sora, hmm...well, I know I have quite a bit of story content for him left to explore in the games I've yet to watch, so nothing's hit me too hard yet. The fact that he's not able to live a normal, peaceful life, and how he talks about always having to fight as long as he has the keyblade...I hope he's able to get a break eventually.

Gosh, I don't even know where to start with Roxas, his entire life in the Organization, outside of Axel and Xion, kinda sucked. There was something really tragic about watching him bust up DiZ's computers before wandering in and coming face-to-face with Sora and realizing that he can't escape his fate of returning to Sora, like, Roxas fought so hard to be his own person, and it amounted to so little. (I seem to recall that something happens with him later on, but as I'm going through the games, I'm realizing the summary I'd seen about the KH series left out a lot of nuance, but I'm hoping things work out for him).

Like Roxas, Xion's entire struggle to be her own person was heartbreaking to watch. I understood her reasoning for choosing to "return to Sora" since it was sort of her only means of defying the Organization and what they wanted her to do, but it just feels so dismal that her only options were to either be destroyed, be a puppet, or become a part of Sora, so it made her entire final scene in Days really heartbreaking.

For Aqua, it would be her sacrifice at the end of the game, and specifically when she apologizes to Ven, saying it might take her a bit of time to come back and wake him up, like, here she is falling into the darkness and she's still trying to protect her family. It's almost a bit self-destructive, and I wish she would take care of herself a bit more, but damn if that scene didn't get me.

7) the moment of theirs that made me the happiest

Sora's entire reunion scene with Riku at the end of KH2 was. So, so good. I need more reunion scenes with that level of emotion.

Any time Roxas got to hang out with Axel and Xion was a good scene. It was so unexpectedly domestic and mundane compared to the insanity that is Organization XIII, and it seemed to me like those were the times when he was the happiest.

The same sentiment goes to Xion, except for her I also liked to see the sort of "dawning realization" that she'd made a friend in Roxas, and that he actually wanted to hang out with her and treated her like a person, like, she was so lonely and to see her realize that she didn't have to be alone anymore. Excellent.

Basically any time Aqua was interacting with the Disney characters, but especially her conversation with Minnie, was really nice because it was such a dramatic break from the seriousness of her mission, and it was like yes, here's all these other people who share her sense of hope and want her to succeed, but aren't expecting anything from her either.

10) my favorite moment with them in canon

So far, for Sora, I really liked the final set of cutscenes in KH2, bc it felt like he and Riku finally got to sit down and really talk things out and come to clear up any misunderstandings, and that brought them a sense of peace so that even if they were in some strange world that was just a beach and water and some funky skies, for the moment, everything was resolved and they could rest. And then of course, that they were able to return to Destiny Islands, and Sora was able to be reunited with all his friends, was just, such a lovely ending.

It's sort of tragic, and bittersweet, but Roxas's decision to finally leave the Organization and find his own path felt so powerful, even if I knew it could only lead to him vanishing bc the only path outside of the Organization was being manipulated by DiZ. Like he was a Nobody, sure, with basically no where to go, but he still left anyhow.

For Xion, probably when she lost the ability to use the keyblade and began to panic, but Roxas still helped her find a way around that like, the genuine act of friendship and support of the time they spent trying to cover up Xion's inability to use the keyblade felt really I dunno, like, that's the depth and power of friendship and means so much.

For Aqua, it's the scene with her taking Ventus back to their home, seeing the destruction, and still managing to find a safe place for him and then turn the place into Castle Oblivion. I dunno, it's a really solemn moment, but I feel like this is when Aqua really, truly becomes Master, even if she had the title since the start of the game.
