I am actually way too tired to make two gifsets today and yesterday I had no mental energy to even talk but today I do.

So I'm gonna talk about my favorite arc, which is Scully's cancer.

I think it's pretty safe to say that most of the fandom agrees that The X-Files did not know how to handle the shows overall mythology, except when it comes to the cancer arc.

What stands out to me about the cancer arc is how well written, planned and executed it was.

It starts during Leonard Betts, which is the shows most watched episode, bringing in an audience of nearly 30 million people on that Superbowl night. This was such a brilliant marketing strategy for the show as well, because it was a way to not only continue riding the high of how popular the show already was, but also bring in (at the time) new viewers by starting such a compelling arc in the middle of what appears to be a monster of the week episode.

To me, the cancer arc is such a fascinating way to delve into Scully and Mulder, as individuals and as a unit. We see how Scully not only puts up with Mulder, but loves him in such a deep and almost mystical way that you couod argue his belief that she will survive this incurable disease is why she does. This is foreshadowed back in One Breath with, "I had the strength of your beliefs."

And as much as she has the strength of his, she prays for him too when he refuses to let her take the fall for him despite being terminally ill.

Cancer is a terrible, terrible thing but Scully having it opened up so many doors for the development of her character and their relationship. Mulder's guilt that she has cancer because of the journey she embarked on with him, and her apologizing for not being able to finish that journey with him shows us how devoted they have become to one another.

I also think this is around the time when David and Gillian switch from still being sort of green as actors (which I love too) to actually doing emmy worthy acting for an extended period of time. There is something so chilling about Scully telling Mulder "the doctor said I was fine." and him replying, "I hope that's the truth." for example.

I know a lot of people believe Scully is immortal, because she didn't die and because of what Clyde Buckman said (among other things) but I have always seen the moment between them where he tells her she doesn't die as him reassuring her that the cancer does not kill her, and unlike a lot of things that happen to Scully during the show her cancer is not completely ignored later in the show, with even Mulder mentioning how he wished her back to health when she was in the hospital during the revival.

There is, of course, more to say but basically: cancer arc you will always be famous.

Wow, Kristen is out of control. I can barely handle it. SO MANY incredible photos all at once. And don't even get me started on the gifsets. Jesus fuck. Like, I'm glad that Kristen is super out now and clearly very happy and seemingly more comfortable with herself and all that which is so wonderful, but I don't think trying to kill all her lesbian fans is really the right move? Maybe she's not aware? Perhaps someone should tell her? Or not. No, don't tell her. I think a few dead lesbians is acceptable collateral damage. I've come close a couple times and it's worth it. I'll take one for the team if it's needed. Ya, so, I'm gonna try hard not to post Kristen every day for the forseeable future, but it's not gonna be easy as I have 5 more pictures that absolutely must be made into posters, and at the rate she's going, it'll probably be 5 more by the end of the day. It's just how it's gonna be. There are quite a few post-Oscar's outfits that I really did like, so I will sprinkle those in between Kristen posts for some variety and so that I'm not posting Oscar party looks months after the Oscar party (even tho traditionally that's not something I've cared about in the slightest but I'll pretend to now to make my blog more interesting and diverse). But for today, Kristen Stewart is the girlcrushart guardian for the 23rd time.

Hellooooo, guys, how're we all holding up today? 😊I'm winding down on my Sunday eve with what looks to be a busy-ish start of the week ahead, so just taking it supereasy right now. The weekend's been good, though! Got to see the fabulous Dune 2 (and, yes, Austin's got the raaaange, darlings) and got my hands on a new nightstand that's hopefully gonna replace some of my bedside table chaos in the next few weeks. I gotta say, my recent icon change and blog color change has got me feelin' rather awesome – I always do better in blue.

Creatively speaking, I'm gifsetting along nicely and gathering my thoughts on each MotA ep as it comes along. I'm really just putting out some character moments at this point, as we've still got another 20 years to gif the rest of this gig. 😂 I also gotta say if you're looking for someone to critique the show, I'm not your girl because I'm in love with it.

favorite faith moment?

i'm gonna cheat a bit and say all the Fuffy moments are off the table. so for me that means no scenes with Buffy. and this can change day by day... but today? my favorite scene is her grand entrance onto ATS in 1x18 Five by Five.

the show wants you to be scared of Faith, the montage before includes Giles with his "a rogue Slayer - i can't think of anything more dangerous" comment. (which is patently untrue but anyways)

she gets off the bus, looking murderous in LA. sketchy dude notices her, and ofc she notices him but he doesn't get that.

sketchy dude starts up with his shit, and i would bet my entire fridge that he has done this like at least 5 times before. instant hate. and what does Faith do? lures him into the dark, away from other people.

"I might be able to help." - sketchy dude finishes his spiel

"I'm cold." - Faith, as she crosses her arms, faking that she's cold

she gets him to start taking off his jacket so it's easier to hit him, and so the jacket is easier to take from him after he gets a beatdown!

Faith punches him multiple times, steals his wallet, grins at the cash, and TAKES his JACKET. puts on the jacket as she stands over his body lying on the ground. *chef's kiss* that's gold right there.

and you know what? she may be evil at that point and full of murderous rage, but she actually doesn't kill sketchy dude. even though you 100% know he deserves it.

this is a SUPERHERO right here!

and for my favorite MOMENT - pretend you are randomly watching and didn't know Faith and her history... i like the specific moment when the story changes from a young girl in trouble with sketchy dude -> to her beating his ass. that moment when you're like "oh she PLANNED this." it's these two gifs:

List of dramas that I am watching or want to watch, just for personal record reasons:

Cdramas:

The ingenious one (36/36): this drama has blown me away so far with its incredibly nuanced and sharp writing, its love stories between all the major couples and the absolutely magnificent cinematography. FINISHED verdict: HIGHLIGHT drama of the year for me so far. Smart, engaging, complicated, peak romance of all sorts, just what the doctor ordered tbh (overly long review can be found in my tags). 9.5

Chang Feng Du (40/40): I did not realise how close to the end I was. This drama is very pleasant and I adore our mains, but sadly except for a few highlights (the early beating gjs put on himself, the destruction of the gu family and the aftermath, the battle for wangdu) the writing hasn’t been able to keep the narrative tension up which is sad. FINSHED verdict: Very pretty and engaging in the beginning kinda loses me in the second half and then fizzles out emotionally, doesn't crash and burn but doesn't exactly stick the landing either 6.5

Gone with the rain (10/30): adore the gremlin4gremlin couple and from the spoilers I’ve seen not gonna adore much else

An ancient love song (1/16): incredible first episode and with only 30 min per ep and 16 eps in total this is gonna be a short fun ride I hope ( with lots of angst and tears naturally).

Here we meet again (18/32): started this for Wu Qian playing to type and Zhang BinBin being pretty but oh boy I’m struggling I just don’t care about the conflicts and in s surprising twist, I like the flashbacks to high school much much more, which is very funny if you think about the fact that the reason I started liking wu qian in the first place was because of her show stealing performance in the flashbacks of My Sunshine. I’ve been promised kisses in the near future so I’m gonna hold out till then but this might end up another drop.

Hidden Love (5/25): this one promises to be v sweet and kinda short but oh my god I have so many dramas on my plate rn so this might end up the first drop.

Till the end of the moon (22/40): I think I watched ep 1 when it started but then I got busy and now I am just staring at gifsets and crying, it’s definitely on the list to watch tho.

Heroes (6?/38): I started this a while ago, was really into it and then got busy… dammit. I might just rewatch the beginning so I can remember most of the set up for sure but man the visuals on this were so good, aaaa liu yuning.

Blood of youth (0/40): the last 12 months really have spoiled us with interesting looking wuxia dramas and this one is definitely on the list, I have been gifbaited once again.

Ray of light (0/30): usually hs dramas are something I avoid, but because I will not be watching the longest promise, for reasons, and bc @storge is a gifmaking temptress, this has made it on the list.

The legend of anle (0/39): Lmao trust YOUKU to screw up the release with bad subs only 1 ep even for vips and no released schedule… but at least I can put this on the backburner for now. Lmao should have known not to trust a youku dilreba drama, the tl has soundingly spoken and I'm gonna avoid this.

Ancient Detective (0/24): I was recced this by a friend when I mentioned my love for wuxia dramas, and since it’s almost shockingly short for a cdrama it’s on the list. EDIT: this got @purplehanfus seal of approval so it is def going up the list and since it's complete I'll probably at least watch it before the ongoing ones.

Butterflied love (0/22): see I barely made this post and already forgot about the screencap that got me started on writing it, the screencapa look great, but the drama is on mango, so who knows when I’ll truly be able to watch this

When I fly towards you (0/24): Well, I wasn't interested bc modern youth drama, but then I heard it described as "updated It Started with a Kiss" and... I'm weak? ISWAK was pretty much my crack gateway into asian dramas and while IDK if i could rewatch it today, something in me will always love this kind of story. Maybe it's like a quick palate cleanser in between since apparently eps are only about 30 mins.

Mysterious Lotus Casebook(0/40): CHENG YIIIII, in a possibly bromantic role? Or maybe het romance, I'll take it all. Plus I've already seen he's bleeding copious amounts as per his contract, so that's most of the checklist done.

Lost You Forever (0/??): because nature abhors a vacuum I apparently must have?? A minimum to watch pile and this actually and genuinely looks good??? A Yang Zi drama in 2023??? The mind boggles. Anyway I've been reading the recaps with delight, and am def going to watch this when part two airs in a couple of months but until then I have a thankful reprieve...

Kdramas:

See you in my 19th life (4/12): since kdramas release so slowly this is on the backburner but it does have some great gifsets that keep enticing meee

King the land (2/16): I am watching this for junho but it is kinda hard bc I have so much else on my plate and while I don’t mind a classic romcom type story I feel I need a bit more of an emotional hook

Story of the nine-tailed 1938 (0/16): so so many gorgeous and hilarious gifsets so little time. I loved season one so so much and the fact that this focuses on the brotherly relationship?? Extremely smart writing decisions were made!

The red sleeve (0/16): I blame @dangermousie for this she keeps reblogging angsts junho on my dash and I am but god’s weakest warrior.

Love tractor (0/8): gay himbo farmboy falls in love?? You bet this is on the list

Lady durian (0/?): ok this is only on the list for crack reasons but, daughter in law is in love with mother in law and both women are like 40+ truly kdramas have entered a new era and I kinda wanna be here for that

EDIT: Revenant (0/12): Kim Tae Ri in a spooky drama? POSSIBLY POSSESSED KIM TAE RI??? how could i forget to put her on this list, plus it was written by the Kingdom writer and I adore that drama plus it's only 12 eps which is smart in this case so... let's hope i get to it at some point D:

My dearest (2/20): I checked this out because it's got pretty much everything going for it from a production standpoint and boy did the first two eps deliver. This has got 2 seasons though so I'll probably wait until the second season is airing, since it won't be too long till season 2 or so the internet tells me.

My lovely liar (0/16): minhyun learned to act and I wanna see it happen!!

Jdramas:

Our dining table (2/10): ok this category is gonna be a bit shorter bc I haven’t watched too much drama recently but omg the gifs for this I am just crying thinking about it they look so cute??

Jack o‘frost (0/6): people have recced it and it’s short so here it is.

Utsukushii kare s2 (0/4): Season 1 was an unexpected delight so I hope s2 works just as well.

She loves to cook and she loves to eat (0/10): the manga for this is amazing (and hungry making) so I hope this adaptation holds up.

WIP (Thursday)

I was tagged to do WIP Wednesday yesterday by Dev @eddiediass , Morgan @rewritetheending and Chapel @extasiswings but I was busy. So I'm doing it today! Most of my writing has been for {redacted} lately, but I was inspired by a gifset from @bilosan about a Buddie + Zombie Apocalype AU. So I played around with my Buddie x TWD fic from last year and ended up with this. This snippet is a loose continuation of this part; enjoy!

"Hey. Hey." Eddie slaps the side of his face to get his attention. He draws a gun, gleaming silver in the sunlight, and waves it around. "I was Army before all this. You know what that means? It means that if you touch my son, if you even so much as look at him funny, I'm gonna put a bullet in you so fast you'll be dead before you even know what happened. Now, my son is nice. He wants to help everyone we come across. I'm not nice, which means if you become a problem, if you slow us down at all, I’m cutting you loose. You got it?"

Buck nods slowly. "I got it."

“Dad.” Christopher frowns disapprovingly from the corner. “We said we weren’t going to cut him loose unless he did something bad to us.”

“No, you said that. I said if he became a problem we’d leave him to the walkers, and since I’m the decision maker here, I’m pretty sure what I say goes.”

Christopher continues to frown. It’s such a human moment, such a slice of normalcy in a world gone dark and wrong, that Buck starts to laugh. Quietly at first, and then louder, harder until his shoulders are shaking. Eddie looks at him like he’s crazy, hand resting on the handle of his gun, but Christopher only smiles at him. 

“Man,” Buck says when he’s calmed down, “You have the cutest kid ever.” 

“Shut the fuck up,” Eddie grumbles, clearly defeated. He still leans down and helps Buck to his feet, still supports his weight until he can prop himself up on the wall of the cabin before squatting down and letting Christopher get on his back. Eddie looks at Buck out of the corner of his eye. Reluctantly, he reaches into his waistband and holds a revolver out to him.

Buck takes it gratefully. 

“You know your way around one of these?”

“Doesn’t everyone these days?”

Eddie snorts. “You’d be surprised. Come on. I have a truck about a mile away. We don’t fire unless we have to, otherwise we get through the woods as quickly as possible. You got it?”

“I got it.”

Eddie doesn’t look convinced. In fact, he’s looking more and more like he’s considering just leaving Buck here before even giving him a chance. Which would be shitty if Buck didn’t get it. It’s the end of the world; if he was a father, he wouldn’t put his kid’s life in jeopardy either, especially not for some stranger with a broken leg.

“Hey,” Buck blurts out, “I get a question too.”

“Of course you do." Eddie rolls his eyes. "What is it?” 

“If it ever comes down to it—if I ever put you or Christopher in danger—I want you to promise you’ll be the one to do it. To kill me,” Buck clarifies when Eddie frowns. “The dead can have my body, I don’t care, I just—I just don’t want to end up like that.” 

Buck can deal with a lot—he can deal with his parents’ deaths, he can deal with the world gone to hell, he can even deal with never finding Maddie since he already knows the chance is so slim. What he can’t deal with is turning into one of those things. He’s had nightmares about it, tried to envision himself as a monster tearing apart all the people he cares about, and it’s all too easy. That’s the disturbing part. It could happen to anyone at any time. Gone, just like that. Buck would rather be dead than have that happen to him. 

Eddie’s face changes then, too quickly for Buck to tell. For the first time, he looks hesitant. Unsure. 

“Promise me,” Buck insists.

After a beat, Eddie nods. “I promise.” 

Buck nods back, relieved. He takes a deep breath and rolls his shoulder back, checking the gun for bullets. Fully loaded, one in the chamber. You can say a lot about him but you can never call Eddie Diaz unprepared. 

He peeks out the cabin window and scans the woods. Coast clear. Eddie rests his hand on the doorknob.

"You ready?"

Buck's not sure he'll ever be ready, but he nods anyway.

“Ready whenever you are.”

First off thank you so much for the hugs, they are gratefully accepted, today was a lot and tomorrow's not going to be better. I'm also in a bit of a writing funk and feeling bad about everything, probably because I'm so emotionally drained. Thank you for sending these as distraction, I'm glad to think about something else tonight.

3. Do you anticipate writing for a new fandom this year? Which one?

Oh I sure hope not. I have a hard enough time keeping up with three. 😂 But one thing I've found is that you never know when a new ship is gonna hook you, so I guess never say never.

7. Will you change anything about the way you interact with other writers?

First, a moment to celebrate what I have changed already: I've gotten a lot better about commenting on everything I read, which I'm very happy about. Now if only I had 12 extra hours in the day to read everything I want to. I'd like to get better at reblogging things on tumblr from other authors, because I know how much reblogs of my own fic posts mean to me. I try to remember to come back and do it after I read a fic, but sometimes I just forget, sadly. I think I need to put those posts in my drafts rather than just likes, or something.

13. Aside from fanfic, are there any other fan works you’d like to try creating? Fanart, or fanvids, gifsets, or podfic? 

You know, doing my tumblr top 10 posts made me realize I'm not sure I did ANY drawing this year? What?? I started getting into it with napollya and then writing kind of took over, but I'd like to get back to it. I don't think I'll pick up anything new, though.

18. Do you typically post multi-chapters as you write, or finish it all and then start posting? Would you like to change your posting method? 

I used to post as a wrote with a month's-worth of chapter buffer, but now I finish them all first. I think it makes the story a lot tighter, I don't have to worry about changing something in the second half and having it conflict with something already published, and it removes the stress of writing to a deadline. So I'm unlikely to change that!

alright folks, welcome to another episode of Jo talking to the void. Gonna try and do a "follow my process" thing.

It's very- VERY long and image heavy. Under the cut and feel free to send me an ask if you have any questions/want me to elaborate on anything.

Part 1: Grab at any idea that sparks joy. Anything. Today mine is the word "horror", so we'll try and do a horror set.

Part 2: Scene analysis and reference hunting. I'll open a new folder on my pc named "Horror gifset" and dump there all the FTWS scenes I already have and that I think could be fun. Open pinterest and behance and type "horror", see if anything sparks an idea.

This takes me roughly 20 mins, here's what I have:

I try to take a step back and see what is it about these designs that attracted me. Clearly the red & black contrast, Bloom and I actually just like the "police line" because of the amount of storytelling it brings by doing basically nothing. (Don't be fooled, I saved many many pics before narrowing it down)

Part 3: To me this is the hardest one. I want to have a small storyline in my gifset, so time to think of it. I open a notes document and just start typing whatever comes to mind, trying to keep the mood of the previous images.

Here's what I landed on. It's not much, but I can now start the fun part of structuring the gifset.

Part 4: I've really been into layout lately, so now's the time to do math.

The first panel I knew I wanted to have the text centered in the middle and surrounded by the mini-gifs. Here are the two layouts I thought of. I decided to go with the second one because it's more interesting, but I already knew I'd tweak a lot, to resemble an actual police line, etc.

I separated all of the scenes from 2x06. Both when Bloom is arrested and when she's released, considering I could use them in reverse.

When making layouts the only things to keep in mind is that the dashboard optimal width is 540 px and that the space in between every piece of "frame" you put within a gif is 2px. So let's say I was going with the square layout 1. It's 540 px width, BUT I can't just divide 540/3 and make that the size of my layout, because I need to account for the space in between the squares too. So the math is actually 540 - 4 (because I have three columns - two gaps)/3 = 178 px. All the squares in that image are 178 x 178.

On Scene grabbing: I do everything I can to use footage that's high quality. This is the easiest way for your gifs to come out pretty, avoid anything lower than 1080. Especially if you're grabbing a scene that'll need loads of adjustments like a night scene or a period piece with too much yellow, grab even higher quality than 1080.

When I work with Redeeming Love's footage, I work with 4k quality, because I know I'm about to destroy the quality by adjusting it.

I mean look at the amount of yellow.

I t*rrent all my scenes in MKV, then use Avidmux to chop the entire movie/show into smaller sized scenes and convert it into mp4.

Part 5: Back to the set. Once I have the basic layout, I pull in my scenes and check if they make sense. One big tip is to stop thinking of scenes as what you watched, but as what you're seeing.

Scenes meaning are very easily altered by whatever context they're put in. Look for scenes in unexpected places (the romantic scene can absolutely be horror footage) and reverse the order or add in effects to alter their meaning.

Each one of these gifs had it's own peculiarities. So to break it down:

Gif 1: I colored it to bring out the black and added the blue because I knew I wanted to use overwhelming red later and this would pop-out. Shaded the white streaks so they'd appear more like police lines and colored them using a gradient just so it'd be more interesting. I didn't like how Bloom's upper part lined up with the cuffs, so I inverted it and brought out the red

Gif 2: First off, I scavenged my memory to try and find a scene where a character appears with white eyes like Bloom's. This poor fella is from The Covenant (2005). I color matched both Bloom's and his scenes so the green was neutralized and we had more blue and red. Then finally I added the phone where the actual storyline I wrote back up starts to unfold.

Gif 3.1: First off, this gif is 540 width, but not 540 px tall. It's actually 400 px tall, which is a good tip: You don't have to stick to one format when giffing. Sometimes a layout or scene simply won't work in a tall format and that's fine.

For this first part all I did was color Bloom, slap the all red color map and the text. Then I realized I didn't like her swimsuit under blending, so I went back and specifically desaturated the red in the starting layer and made it dark, so it'd show up black. The "20 years" are subtle, but in my head it'd be what the characters are hearing in their nightmare, so it's just a faint whisper in the corner.

Gif 3.2: I colored all scenes to match each other. Sky's was the darkest one, so I knew I'd try and match to his because then I wouldn't have to destroy the quality of his footage to match the others. Musa's scenes was tricky because in the actual scene she's waking up slowly and happy. I chose to speed it up and start the gif already in her movement, so you don't realize she's actually very relaxed in the scene.

Gif 4: I started by coloring Bloom and Riven's footage, reducing the yellow and bringing out the blue and red in both. As you can see there's still a candle behind Riven, that makes it hard to see his face, so what I did was add a black shape under (or you could paint a layer in PS) with black and just blur the edges, so his footage would actually show. Finally there was that big empty spot in the upper left, so I added a note and used it to wrap up the story of the set.

There are two layers of text, both set to multiply: one is the actual text, the second one is in a brighter red and blurred in one direction, so it looks like the text got smeared in a rush. Added the blood and ta-da! We're done.

Exporting:

If you're exporting from After Effects, I've found exporting in MOV works better than trying to export in mp4, since it doesn't compress the file. You'll notice I'm using the format "apple ProRes 444", that's simply because this format keeps the alpha channel (transparent). While I didn't need it in this set, it's an habit.

Once I export from after effects, we're importing in Photoshop.

I import by going File > Import > Video Frame to Layers. Then you select your file and you should have this:

Hit OK.

If you don't have the timeline here, simply go in "Window > Timeline"

You'll end up with something like this. Now here's the most boring part of giffing, but don't give up now!

Go on the 3 lines on the bottom right of the timeline (=) and click on "select all frames". Once they're all selected, click the little down arrow under the little thumbnails to change the timing. I change mine from 0.04 to 0.05

Then I select all my LAYERS (not frames), put them inside a group. And click:

On this little piled up icon to transform into the video timeline. This is so we can sharpen our gifs.

Right Click on top of the group on the layers panel and select "convert to smart object". Then in the upper bar, click Filter > Sharpen> Smart Sharpen and use these settings:

This is what makes gifs look clear and crispy.

FINALLY we're saving. You can do it manually, like a peasant, by going on file > export > save for web (legacy). Or you can play keyboard piano and hit alt+shift+ctrl+s.

These are my export settings.

Things to keep in mind:

"Diffusion" is just one of the types of exporting you can do. TWEAK THIS for every gif. Sometimes very detailed gifs will look better with Pattern. Very colorful ones with Diffusion. It varies a lot.

"Adaptive" is just another way the pixels are laid out. I don't actually see much difference here, but I always tweak on all settings, just to make sure I'm getting the best quality by the smaller size.

On the bottom left you'll see your size. Mine is currently 6.82M. All you have to know is that Tumblr won't allow any gif bigger than 9.8M.

Looping Options: make sure it's in forever, otherwise your gifs won't play.

And then... finally, hit save.

....

Now rinse repeat and do this for 200 other gifsets, because it's a totally fun hobby to have!

I saw a gifset of Billy's hands and now I've been Sparta Kicked into a downward spiral of thinking about Billy's hands once being conditioned to only hurt but NOW they're only for being soft and gentle. siiigh

Billy used to be able to pitch a no-hitter. He used to fly through roads most people avoid. He used to punch a cunt’s skull in with one hit. He used to be able to style his hair to perfection where each curl was a work of damn art. "Shit." Billy tosses his lighter across his room, it hits the wall. Billy hopes it didn't leave a scratch. A dent. It's the last thing Susan needs in this heap.

He covers his eyes, digs the heels of his palms in until the tremors pass and the ache smooths itself over to dull, the cigarette in his mouth starts to go soggy.

Billy used to be someone who wasn't useless.

Steve grunts next to him then he's moving and Billy thinks, yeah, you probably should leave. Today's a bad day. Fucking's the cherry on top, but it's still a crap sundae.

There's a snick to his left. The mattress dips by his hip and then by his ear.

Peeking out from under his scarred hands, blinking away the starbursts in his eyes, Billy grits his teeth.

"You just had to ask. I'm not a please and thank you kind of guy, you know." Steve tells him, leaning over him, soft hair falling over his soft face. Lights Billy's cigarette, tosses the lighter onto his nightstand. Easy-peasy. Nothing to it.

Billy glares down his lamp. "I don't want to ask. I'm tired of asking."

Steve plucks his cig out from Billy's scowl.

"That's really too bad." Steve blows smoke up towards the ceiling. Bare-chested and sporting a bruising bite mark Billy left on him two days ago. Steve taps at Billy's chin to get him to look at him. It's a struggle. "You gonna keep pouting or are you gonna kiss me?"

Billy fists at the sheets. He reaches up and touches a mole on Steve's cheek. He tugs at Steve's hair. He steals back his smoke and puts it out on the carpet without even a pull.

His hands ache as bad as his heart does pulling this smug asshole down for that kiss.

so already we've seen Kim just have the most open and surprised and (in love) expression

but then as chay actually starts to sing and play the guitar, u can see Kim trying to put his Cool Guy™️ mask on, but he can't quite get it to stick. chay is really adorable and persistent and forward here and Kim is so thrown, this isn't something he'd expected to happen

(which is hilarious like Kim u literally assigned him this love song project, after talking to him and knowing he has a crush on u? u did this to urself)

but he totally expected to not hear the song until their next session at the studio and chay just showing up at his apartment isn't what he planned for. and like I'm a firm believer in Kim not really doing things unless he's very carefully planned it and he knows what he's doing. (which we see when he visits the main family's house. seeing tankhun wasn't an accident, neither was still being there when Korn came back)

but ANYWAYS u can see here that his eyes follow chays every movement, he keeps starting to smile and then catching himself, pursing his lips to stop it, but then looking at chay some more and forgetting to not smile

Kim doesn't actually say really anything in this scene, but he still says SO MUCH with his body language. the way he fidgets with his hands while chay talks (nervous) the soft look on his face that's completely at war with most other scenes we see before this like. again, his mask is Off it's upstairs he forgot it today and he's not quick enough to get it back on before chay sees him, and once he sees chay, it's like he's lost the ability to regulate his face

the way his head tilts and his little nods, aside from being just adorable, are so -flips hair- kimchay affirming, he's so down bad. every thought he has rn is chay chay Porchay porchay porchay chay chay and honestly who can blame him.

okay we're talking Abt the very last gif now, it's after chay has started singing and Kim HONESTLY looks like he could cry at any second. he swallows to steady himself and listen to the song chay sings Abt how he's fallen in love with Kim. his eyebrows slightly drawn in, full puppy dog eyes like. he's bracing himself and also losing himself at the same time. he's so confused he doesn't know how to be this person chay loves and he's gonna try and figure it out (and then CHICKEN OUT loser) but yeah
