bottle - @jegulus-microfic - word count: 221 - very slightly NSFW
Dorcas, Barty, Evan, Pandora, and Regulus stared at the bottle on the table in front of them, none of them saying a word.
“This is stupid,” Regulus eventually said, breaking the silence. “The smell of a ridiculous potion doesn’t mean a damn thing. I still swear on all of your lives that don’t fancy Po-”
“Smell it, Reg,” Dorcas commanded, unstoppering the small vial and lifting the Amortentia to his nose. “And don’t even think about lying. Pandora knows your tell.”
Pandora nodded, and Regulus briefly considered using medieval torture to finally figure out what his tell was. But Pandora was one of the few people he hated to think about hurting.
Oh, well. It wasn’t like he’d have to lie anyways. He didn’t fancy Potter.
He took a hesitant sniff, and instantly he pulled back a foot, trying to cover his shock.
“What is it?” Barty asked eagerly, eyes glittering, staying well away from the potion. “Potter’s sweat after a Quidditch Game? The smell of his balls after he showers?”
But Regulus, too miserable to argue or even lie, just groaned. “It’s…eucalyptus…” he murmured, looking down.
Dorcas let out a shout of laughter, and the others joined in soon after.
Because it was a well-known fact that James Potter had been using the same eucalyptus cologne since he was eleven.

may 13 - mischievous - @jegulus-microfic - 196 words
Harry was a mischievous kid and drove James up the wall. He and Lily were swapping weeks and weekends with half custody each.
Every time James dropped him off at daycare he repeatedly apologized to the workers for Harry’s enthusiasm and need to cause problems.
Harry was a bustling five year old with every ounce of all the wild that James had had as a kid. That mixed with Lily’s wit and they were screwed.
James would bring a brimming with craze Harry to the daycare at 7 am in the morning. James looked thoroughly exhausted. But the moment they got there and Harry spotted his teacher, Harry was calm in Regulus’s arms in just a moment.
All of his madness settled as he whispered secrets to Regulus Black. Regulus was a saint, James decided, he had this beautiful way to manage Harry.
Regulus Black was gorgeous, James would admit.
“Regulus, hey, thanks,” James murmured, rubbing the exhaustion out of his eyes.
“Mmm,” Regulus grinned, laughing.
James loved Regulus’s pretty laugh. Regulus balanced Harry on his hip as he placed a hand on James’s forehead to check his temperature. James felt as if he could die.

In love - @jegulus-microfic - word count 288
It happened on a day of spring, when they were so full of youth, love and joy.
James was having a nap by the oak tree in the Potter Manor, eyes squeezed shut and breathing so slow when he heard the sound.
Low giggles.
The sound was better than a musical, he instantly thought, or siren songs in the manner. James wanted to beg the gods to listen to that sound again. Maybe he might even try to bottle it, hidden from the world, only to himself.
His to keep and listen.
The giggles of Regulus Black.
He was playing with his kitten, pure black and tiny like a furball. He has named him Whiskers. Tiny furious thing, yet James couldn't help himself, he adored that little one.
Whiskers had been in the family for two months yet this was the first time James saw or heard Regulus like this. Carefree and happy. Joyful and at ease.
He was devastatingly beautiful.
Pink soft lips parted wide, eyes shining so brightly—James was sure there were stars hidden behind. His shoulders were going up and down in rhythm, shaking his small body furiously. The crown of raven black curls so wild, shaping his marble like face.
An angel, it was James' first thought.
And James? Well, James was a gone, gone man.
A wide grin already was on his face and he felt his stupid heart doing a soppy dance, his ridiculous brain already planning the wedding ahead.
Golden boy was in love, love and love.
Much later, when they grew older, grey hair and wrinkles; he would say to his grandkids at any given opportunity that this was the day he fell in love.
In love with Regulus Black.

Prompt 14 - Bottle
@jegulus-microfic May 14, Word count 666
Previous part First part
James and Regulus were rudely awakened the next morning when a bottle of butterbeer was unceremoniously poured over them by Sirius.
“Hey, what the?!” James sputtered, the worst of the spray hitting him.
“Seriously, you two? We’re out there looking after a werewolf, and you're up here doing what exactly?” He stood with his hands on his hips. Regulus rose from the bed and stared daggers at his brother, before he leaned in and whispered something in his ear.
All the colour left Sirius’s face and his eyes opened wide.
“Does he know?” He asked in a hushed whisper. His eyes darted to James and back. Regulus gave him one small nod. Sirius closed his eyes and sucked in a shuddering breath through his nose. “You,” He pointed at Regulus, “Go back down to your dorm, I’ll deal with you later.” Regulus rolled his eyes, but did as Sirius asked. Whatever he’d said to Sirius had drained him, and Regulus didn’t seem to want to push him further.
Regulus turned back to James, who had managed to put his glasses on and was using his wand to vanish as much of the butterbeer as possible. Regulus leaned over and kissed him. Sirius’s jaw tightened, but he didn’t say anything. Then Regulus was gone. He’d stolen James’s invisibility cloak, so he could get back to bed without being seen.
“Don’t lose it, love.” James called after him.
“I won’t,” Regulus’s bodiless voice answered.
They sat in silence while they waited for Regulus to leave the Gryffindor common room.
“Peter, fuck off.” Sirius hissed.
“Oi, this is my room too! I didn’t shag your brother. Why am I getting kicked out?!” Peter realised his mistake and scurried out of the room before Sirius could even turn around.
“I swear, Sirius, nothing happened,” James blurted out hurriedly, before Sirius could say anything.
“Oh, so you didn’t snog my little brother then?” He raised his eyebrows, daring James to deny it.
“Okay, well, yes that happened. But I swear that was it. He wasn’t going to stay, but we must have fallen asleep.” He rubbed his face with his hands. “I’m sorry Sirius, this was literally the first time.” He looked up at his friend. “Please don’t hate me.” Sirius’s jaw quavered, and he tore his eyes away from James. But James saw how shiny with tears they had gotten.
“Was he telling the truth? Do you know?” He asked, still not looking at James.
“Know what?” James was confused. He replayed the almost silent conversation between the two brothers. His head ached with the intense thinking he was having to do so early in the morning. If only it hadn’t been a full moon last night, Sirius would still have been asleep. He looked over at Sirius’s bed and for the first time wondered if he even slept there anymore or if he slept in Remus’s bed. Oh, that was it!
“Do you mean if I know about you and Remus?” He asked, keeping his voice even. Sirius’s head whipped back around. “The relationship that you kept from me? How long Sirius?” Sirius hung his head.
“Since the end of last year.” James hadn’t been expecting that. It had been months. How had he not noticed?
“Well,” He said slowly. “At least now you don’t have to hide it anymore.” He tilted his head until Sirius looked up at him. “I’m happy for you. For Remus as well,” He said earnestly.
“Really? You’re not mad at me?” Sirius said quietly, looking unsure.
“Of course I am, you idiot. Why wouldn’t I be?” James chuckled. Sirius launched himself at James. James instinctively reacted and caught his friend as they went tumbling back onto the bed.
Sirius snuggled into his arms, burying his face in James’s chest.
“Thank you Prongs.” Sirius sighed as he clung harder to his best friend. “I’ll try not to be a dick about Regulus. No promises though.” James squeezed him tighter.
"Thanks Padfoot.” He smiled happily.

@jegulus-microfic - prompt: bottle - wc: 457 -
~~~
“Okay, that’s enough drinking for you, love,” James sighed, standing up and walking over to the other side of his and his friend’s makeshift circle around his coffee table.
“What? Not fair,” Regulus’ words slurred as a frown pulled downwards on his pink lips. His cheeks were painted a color of light crimson despite the boy’s constant cold temperature.
“You’ve drunk nearly the whole bottle of firewhiskey, Reg,” James smiled softly as he made his way over to the pouting boy. The others weren’t paying much attention to the couple, already engaged in their own drunken conversations.
Ever since graduating from Hogwarts and buying an apartment for him and Regulus, their friends insisted on meeting up every Saturday, since most of them were off work on the weekends, or Sundays at the very least. How they were going to keep this tradition up when Regulus, Barty, Evan, and Pandora returned for their final year of school, James didn’t know. He didn’t need to focus much on that right now, though, since there were still a few weeks until he had to say goodbye to his boyfriend.
Before these get-togethers, Regulus had said multiple times in past years that he never saw the point in drinking around other people, claiming it had always made him uncomfortable to be the slightest bit intoxicated with company around. Then, James realized he had never actually drank around friends, and instead was talking about how uncomfortable he had felt drinking around his family, which is fair.
After getting Regulus to relax enough to drink a few butter beers around their friends, the boy started slowly getting more and more comfortable with the idea of drinking with people he enjoyed being around. Tonight was the first time anyone besides James and Barty had seen Regulus drink anything champagne or butter beer, and it was quite the experience.
Even though James found his boyfriend heartbreakingly adorable like this, he knew that once he started getting into the more specific parts of their relationship, it was time to cut him off and put him to bed. Regulus would likely kill him for letting it go even this far, Merlin forbid he drank more and, thus, talked about things that were making Sirius very visibly want to strangle James.
“You just hate fun,” Regulus whined, sticking his bottom lip out in a dramatic pout as James gently took the glass from his hand.
“No, I just care about the state you’ll be in when morning comes around,” James stuck his hand out for Regulus to grab, which he did, though he clearly wasn’t very happy about it. They said their goodnights and went to bed–not before Sirius could curse his best friend out a little, though.
Part two rosekiller prompt| Part One
"Have you seen Barty?!" Regulus looked up startled, his eyes wide and his heart beating rapidly in his chest. He stumbles out of his bed and stares at Evan for a moment, still startled from the abrupt entrance.
Evan had burst through the door with no warning, his presence startling Regulus. He quickly slammed his curtains close behind him and gave Evan an annoyed look
"Weren't you supposed to be on a date with him? At the lake?" He responded annoyed, his eyebrow raised.
Evan scowled and pointed a finger at him almost accusingly.
"He just fucking said I love you and ran off before I could respond."
Regulus' mouth drops open, his eyes widening. He sputtered for a moment stepping away from his bed and staring at Evan in shock
"He what!?" Regulus wasn't sure what he wanted to do more, rip his hair out and hex Barty or laugh manically and maybe take a nap for a week.
"A-and I can't find him. Merlin you should've seen his face Regulus- he looked heartbroken...I have to find him."
He shook his head and swiveled around to leave, his fists clenched at his side. Regulus watched him go, his mind still racing. Barty always acted before thinking.
Silence reigned in the dorm room for a moment before his curtains moved back behind him. Regulus slowly turned to the bed with pursed lips and a troubled expression.
"Think he saw me?" James asks before biting his lip. His hair is disheveled, his glasses crooked, his clothes wrinkled and half way off.
Regulus sighs heavily
"Shut up-" he pushes James down again with a smirk.
_____
Pandora stuck her tongue out as she stared at the potion in front of her, her concentration fully on the cauldron. She blew a piece of hair out of her face and tried not to let the sweat rolling down her temple distract her more than it was already doing.
Carefully, with steady hands, she dumped a few more quail eggs in the cauldron. As she stepped back from the giant puff of steam she heard the door burst open behind her
She didn't bother looking over, she knew Evan was stomping towards her. She carefully pulled her gloves off and threw them in the trash as she turned towards her twin
"Try that abandoned charms classroom, from third year.." she murmured softly
She looked at her gasping twin who looked as if he'd been running everywhere, which she's sure he has been. He took a moment to catch his breath before stalking closer and placing a kiss on her forehead
"Will it work out?" He murmurs almost hopefully, it's a stupid question. She gives him a small blank smile
He sighs with a nod, even as she answers they both know what she's going to say
"With endless possibilities I am not sure, even if I was I cannot tell you as it could change the outcome. I wish you nothing but luck though.." she tilts her head to the side and let's him go.
He misses the smile that graces her face as she turns back to the boiling concoction.
_____
Evan slams the classroom door open, his chest heaving up and down rapidly. His eyes scan the room quickly and it doesn't take long to find Barty.
Barty lays on top of the teachers desk, his limbs hanging off around him. It looks wildly uncomfortable but Barty never failed to do the same exact thing each and every time anyways.
"You don't have to come comfort me...it's fine Evan." He murmurs. He doesn't turn towards Evan at all, just stares at the ceiling blankly
"Unless you're Regulus or Pandora coming to comfort me because Evan pities me enough to send someone else.."
He glances over and sighs in a resigned tone, his eyes and nose are red, his hair messier than usual. He had probably been pulling at it, running his fingers through it.
"Well...get it over with then...reject me properly."
Evan stands in front of the open door for a moment catching his breath and trying to figure out what to say.
Inhaling deeply he steps further into the classroom and lets the door shut behind him. He pulls the confidence out of thin air and shoves it down his throat, he couldn't fuck this up.
"No. I don't think I will." He tries for nonchalant, isn't sure he succeeds.
Bartys head snaps back to the side to see Evan again. He sits up slowly with a frown, his legs swinging over the edge of the desk.
"What- Evan-"
Evan steps forward causing Barty to stop speaking. Evan rolls his shoulders, steels his mind for battle and forces his feet to keep going.
He doesn't stop until he's right in front of Barty.
"You're an idiot." He starts out with
Bartys mouth falls open in shock, he sputters for a moment his eyes showing betrayal
"I didn't even get to answer before you ran off you absolute troll." Evan huffs and crosses his arms
He raises an eyebrow down at Barty and steps closer, now in between Bartys legs. Barty, who previously had his hands folded in his lap, snatches them to the side nervously and leans back on them. He eyes Evan curiously, still too nervous to speak though.
"I.... I love you Barty." Evan says suddenly nervous. He uncrosses his arms and looks away from Barty's face, he can feel his eyes on him even as he tries to ignore it.
"You didn't wait for me to fully answer....I love you and you only. You are the only person who has ever made me feel this way. I didn't want-ugh...you make this so hard."
Evan curses Barty out in his mind as he tries to fumble together some form of a sentence
"You can't just drop a bomb like that and run off-" he huffs and slowly looks back to Barty
Barty stares at him stunned, his lips parted in surprise. Evan shuffles nervously, he feels himself flush red as Barty just stares at Evan incredulously. He stands his ground as best as he can.
"Stop staring dumbass-"
Barty grabs Evans hand after a moment of hesitation, quickly cutting off anything he was about to say
"Do you mean it?" He whispers, his fingers slide to Evans wrist and he squeezes. Evan shivers at the warmth of his hand, his eyes trained on the spot where their skin connects.
Evan doesn't pull back, let's him grip him as Barty stares up with wide eyes and hope glistening clearly inside them.
"That you're a dumbass? Yea I really do-"
Barty tugs at his wrist and pouts slightly
"Don't ...please answer."
Evan looks down at their hands again, biting his lips at the sight of Barty's hand that always has chipped nail polish and ink doodles across the back.
"Yea...I wouldn't have said it if I didn't mean it. I wouldn't play with your feelings like that..."
Evan looks up through his lashes for a moment, his head tilted down. Barty inhales sharply and tugs him forward
Their breaths mingle, they make eye contact, Evan breathes out and watches as strands of hair fly back. He knows he's looking at Barty through half lidded eyes, he can't help moving closer, too magnetized by the boy in front of him.
Barty nuzzles closer and their noses bump, Evan scans Barty's face, his eyes tracing every small detail. He was a sight, he always was. Always disheveled looking, always looking like a menace to society...
"May I?-"
Evan knocks their heads together, ignores the throb on his forehead from doing so and cups Bartys face
"Yea dumbass, kiss me." He whispers
He barely finishes his sentence before Barty is on him. It can hardly be called gentle, they had waited for so long, too long. There was teeth, there was bruising pressure, it was perfect.
Evan let his hand go to Barty's hair, his fingers sliding through and tugging lightly, barty groaned and almost tilted over when Evan pulled back. Barty stayed hunched forward, his head resting against Evans chest. He heaved in breath after breath, as if he had run a marathon. They both gasped for air, the kiss was short and yet it had Evan light headed.
Barty's fists were clenched on Evans shirt, his knuckles white.
He let out a hoarse whimper before pulling Evan closer again. Evan could feel the pressure of Barty's head on his stomach now, it was a comforting weight.
Evan breathes deeply, his hand gently running through Barty's hair soothingly. He could still feel his galloping heart, and could barely hear anything over it.
"Please tell me this is real...that this isn't a dream?" Barty murmures almost brokenly
Evan stopped, his hands twitching. He closes his eyes for just a second, his heart aching, before answering
"This is real, this isn't a dream...I swear it isn't." Evan forces Barty's head up and sweeps the hair off of his face. Cupping his face between his hands he makes Barty look at him
"This is real sweetheart." He murmures softly
"This is real.." Barty says back.
He presses a gentle kiss to the side of his mouth, more on his cheek than his lips.
"This is real.." he murmurs once more before pulling back fully.
15. Drive
@jegulus-microfic | May 15. drive | word count: 316
James had been told that when he was a baby it was nearly impossible to put him to sleep.
Apparently, his boundless energy would not allow a single member of the Potter family to rest properly.
Of course, though, James had the most amazing parents who did everything they could think of to get him to settle down and sleep. They would play music or watch movies and take him around the park, but nothing worked.
It wasn't until his dad realized that during every trip to the grocery store, James would fall asleep within minutes of getting in the car. From that day forward anytime James could not sleep they would take him on a drive.
So that's why he was here, two hours into a drive that he had to beg Regulus to take in hoping that his boyfriend would finally find some rest.
He thought that maybe since it had worked for him it could also work for Regulus.
Regulus had been so stressed about the move and how his parents would react that he could count on one hand how many nights he had slept.
James had tried to do something about it before.
Really he did!
But trying to help Regulus is impossible, the boy being overly stubborn with his every word and movement.
It had gotten so bad that his boyfriend's pretty pale face had deep sunken eyes with dark purple under them, and while James would always find the other boy beautiful he knew this was not healthy.
So he took him out in hopes that what lulled him to sleep as a child could somehow help his star.
After getting him in the car it only took a few minutes for Regulus to fall asleep and James was left to watch as his chest moved slowly up and down and his breath came out in peaceful puffs.
mischievous - @jegulus-microfic - word count: 227
“Give that back!” Regulus barked, grabbing at the little book Barty was currently holding above his head, his taunting grin making Regulus want to punch him in the face.
“Oh, how bad can it be? Like you’re writing love letters in here or something,” Barty rolled his eyes, mischievous smile still locked into place as he simultaneously turned away from Regulus and flipped open to a random page, scanning the text.
“I swear to Salazar and Merlin and Morgana and all the rest, Barty, if you read it, I’ll-” but Regulus was cut off by Barty’s dramatic inhale.
“It is love letters!” he shouted gleefully, waving the book again, looking as if Father Christmas had come early. “Ev, come see!”
But before Evan, who was walking down the hall toward them, could arrive, the book flew out of his grasp and landed neatly in Regulus’s outstretched hand.
Looking indignantly at Regulus, Barty soon realized that Regulus had not then one who cast the spell. The culprit was a few feel away, idly twirling his wand and looking quite pleased with himself.
“Don’t be a dick, Crouch,” James Potter chided happily, winking at Regulus and walking past.
And Regulus, instantly knowing that James had heard everything, buried his head in his hands. Because he knew tonight, when they met up, he would have to give a detailed explanation to James as to what, exactly, was in that book.
may 15 - drive - @jegulus-microfic - 171 words
Regulus never did get in trouble the way his brother did. He did all kinds of things but really, he wasn’t dumb enough to get caught doing them.
Twice a week during the summers, Regulus jumped out of the window of his bedroom, a cushioning charm cast below him. He snuck out the back and ran into James’s arms.
He did this during the evenings, after they’d had a stiff dinner as a family. He snuck out to meet his boyfriend, only to return past two or three am every night he left.
Hours the two spent together, they liked to go for late night drives. James had a car and would park it three blocks down. He walked up to the back of the house to pick Regulus up. He opened the passenger door for Regulus and the two drove without a destination.
They sometimes liked to open up the trunk and sit or lean against it, stargazing. Regulus would point out his constellation to James whenever it was visible.
Hi! Just wanted to bring awareness to something I see frequently and just saw now. Pxrty-crxsher took Jegulus art from Novak Rouge (on Instagram), who explicitly says on their profile not to repost anywhere and posted it here. As far as I can tell, Novak doesn't have a tumblr. The only account I found on here has dissimilar art styles and subjects, and theirs no linked account on their insta. I'm not interacting with posts with stolen art, as it just feeds people to continue reblogging it. It literally took one google search to find Novak's art account, and based on that search, it's not posted anywhere else that one could easily stumble upon. I'm not jumping to the conclusion that this person purposefully stole it, as I don't know. But finding the artist to credit them, and therefore finding that they don't want their art reposted, is as easy as one-two. It's shit to do this to artists. It's shit to do to the community. It makes content creators not want to create. Don't fucking do that. Its that simple.
I tried reporting it to get it taken down, but there's only so much one person can do. Thanks for reading 🩵
Prompt 13 - Mischievous
@jegulus-microfic May 13, Word count 560
Previous part First part
James sunk into the kiss, Regulus tilted his head so the kiss deepened. He seemed to know what he was doing, so James let him take the lead.
A groan escaped his throat when Regulus’s teeth nipped his bottom lip. He wished he had more experience, or any at all, but this was his first kiss, and he thought it was amazing anyway.
Regulus pulled away, but stayed close, his breath played across James’s wet lips.
“Are you going to join them?” Regulus asked quietly. His silver eyes were darker than James had ever seen them, his pupils were blown wide. James’s throat constricted, and he couldn’t speak, so he shook his head. Regulus took one of James’s hands in his and teased his fingers gently. He looked up with a mischievous grin and whispered into James’s ear. “Wanna go up to your dorm?” James’s heart skipped a beat and his brain short-circuited.
Regulus tugged the invisibility cloak out of his pocket and threw it over them before leading James by the hand back to the castle.
James didn’t remember the walk back up to Gryffindor Tower. The next thing he was aware of was Regulus prodding him in the ribs. “Oi, what's the password?” He shook his head and snapped out of it. He stepped out from under the cloak, making the fat lady jump and gave her the password. She grumbled about him being out past curfew and that she ought to report him, but the Marauder’s had long ago charmed her, so James knew it was all bark and no bite. He made a note to come and apologise in the morning, but right now Regulus was pushing him in the back to make him move forward.
He walked across the empty common room and up the spiral staircase. As soon as the dormitory door closed, Regulus was on him, locking their lips together and jumping into his arms. James only just had time to catch Regulus, before his legs were wrapped around James's waist.
He stumbled back, towards his bed and sat down heavily. Regulus began pulling at his tie and James became suddenly nervous. He pulled his head back, away from Regulus’s soft lips.
“Erm,” His voice squeaked, so he cleared it. “Erm, just so you know, I’ve never—Er, you know—I’ve never been with someone.” He stumbled over his words, his face reddening with embarrassment.
Regulus let his hands drop to his side, releasing James’s tie.
“What, never?” He asked, head tilted to the side with a look of confusion on his face.
“No,” James whispered. “Just now, that was my first kiss,” He confessed. Regulus’s confessed expression turned to horror.
“Why didn’t you tell me?” He said in disbelief. He ran his hand agitatedly through his curls. “I’d never have suggested coming up here otherwise.”
“Oh,” James’s face fell. Regulus let out an exasperated sigh.
“I mean, I don’t have to go. My brother and the others won’t be back until morning.” That mischievous grin returned. “I could give you a more thorough education in kissing.” His eyebrow quirked up.
James’s face lit up and he nodded yes. Regulus laid James back onto the bed and followed after him. James would never in his wildest dreams have dreamed that this might be a reality.
Eventually, they dosed off, wrapped around each other.
@jegulus-microfic - prompt: drive - wc: 613
~~~
Regulus flipped the page of his book lazily, knees tucked up comfortably as his back pressed against the wall of his favorite hiding nook–a small space above the eyesight of most people in the main courtyard. Sometimes, he came up here just to people-watch, but most days, all he wanted to do was read in peace. Doing this in his dorm had become a challenging task ever since Evan and Barty got together a few months ago.
As his eyes scan over the page in front of him, he hears hurried footsteps echoing down the corridor on his left side and can’t help but be the slightest bit curious. He was one of the few students with a free period at this time of day, so it wasn’t often that anyone would be moving through this area. When his gaze landed on the two idiots running down said corridor, everything suddenly made sense.
His older brother, whom he had only very recently started acknowledging again, raced to chase someone around the circular fountain placed directly in the middle of the courtyard, surrounded by stone paths that lead to the four surrounding corridors. Being chased was none other than James Potter, the moron that happened to be the most fit person Regulus had ever laid his eyes on. Deciding that whatever was going on between the best friends was much more interesting, Regulus folded down the top corner of his page and closed it, placing it by his feet.
“Padfoot, please, just hear me out!” Potter exclaimed, turning to run backward so he could make eye contact with his pursuer.
“No, I will not hear you out on this, James!” Sirius’ brows furrowed, a look of borderline betrayal painting his face. “You should’ve told me before you announced it to the entire school!”
“It was only our potions class, and you’re likely the only person who even connected the dots!” James dodged sideways as Sirius launched himself at him. “All I did was answer a simple question, Pads! How was I supposed to know that you would know?!”
“He’s my baby brother, you twat!” Sirius all but yells out, throwing his hands into the air dramatically.
What the hell was going on?
Regulus shifted so he was directly facing the two of them, careful not to knock his book over with his foot. He wanted to know what this was about and what it had to do with him.
“I didn’t know what the smell meant! You know I’m bad with potions,” James breathes out, starting to very clearly run out of breath. “I didn’t even know what amortentia was until Remus told me why you were so angry!”
Wait, what?
Regulus nearly fell from how hard he flinched upon hearing Potter’s words. He was able to catch himself but failed to catch his wand that slipped out of his pocket. His lips pulled into a grimace as he heard the clatter of wood hitting stone.
“What was that?” Sirius’ head whipped around to observe the area, his eyes quickly landing on the wand. Shit. “Reggie? Where the hell even are you?”
Regulus stayed silent, even going as far as holding his breath. He watched as James’ eyes widened and knew that the older boy was definitely not planning on ever saying anything about his supposed crush. He didn’t know what to do with any of this information as his heartbeat grew faster and louder in his chest.  “Whatever. I’m going back to class before Slughorn gets Minnie involved,” Sirius sighs, picking up Regulus’ wand from the ground and beginning to walk into the corridor from which they came. “You both drive me insane.”
