What I watched this week (3/6-3/12 '23)
Perfect Blue (1997, dir. Satoshi Kon)
Tumblr media
I'm not saying anything new when I say I loved what a mindfuck this movie is. Truly a masterpiece in keeping you glued to the narrative and second guessing your own interpretation of the film.
It's really hard to talk about this movie without getting into really big spoiler territory but I'll do my best to describe why this film is such a masterpiece. Beyond the striking visuals and the intense score, Perfect Blue tackles the psyche of fame in a way I've never seen done before. It gets it so perfect, from the jealousy, the self loathing, to the wide variety of opinions of the public it paints a compelling picture of how fame literally, and figuratively traps one in it's web. Much like Mima, I constantly found myself backtracking and second guessing the films narrative, and ultimately the payoff left me with just the right amount of unanswered questions. I can't wait to re-watch and pick up on anything I may have missed.
5/5
Fallen Angels (1995, dir. Wong Kar-wai)
Tumblr media
This!!! movie!!! is!!! so!!! sweet!!!! It's a movie about weirdos falling in love made for weirdos. The plot is just a loose thread that holds this bundle of joy and light against the grimey city underbelly together in the bestest of ways. This movie is ultimately about its characters, and for having so many different arcs going on all it once, it manages to give each one the right ammount of time to shine and grab onto my mind enough to leave a mark.
The theme of love and lonlieness permeates and saturates this film through the dark, intimate aesthetics and the bloody over the top gunfights and it makes it something special - and one of my favroites.
5/5
Escape From New York (1981, dir. John Carpenter)
Tumblr media
Watching this movie as a metal gear solid fan is a trip, and probably contributed to 90% of my enjoyment of it. I know I know everyone has said it, "Snake plisken! snake plisken!" but there's more to it than that. The pacing, the plot structure, the elements of sci-fi all of it was used as a base in MGS and it's so cool to see it in it's original form!
Metal Gear references aside, Escape from New York is a solid sci fi action flick with good (albeit silly) worldbuilding and a solid, likeable cast of characters. I thought the movie lagged a little bit, but it made up for it in every other aspect - especially in it's action scenes.
4/5
Scream 3 + 4 (2000, 2011, dir. Wes Craven)
Tumblr media
Oh scream, why does everyone love you? Honestly, am I just missing something with these movies? Is there some secret piece of knwoeldge I've glossed over? Or are people just stupid. I don't know. These movies are painfully boring and uninteresting people! The twists aren't fun, the gore is boring, the satire is blunt, and oh my god are the characters ever awful!
Look, I understand that looking for good characters in a Slasher is like trying to find a needle in a haystack, I understand that! But I'd forgive this movie if it didn't spend so much fucking time on them! I do not care about Sidney prescott. I do not care about Gale Weathers. I do not care about Dewey Riley. They are all fine as plot devices to keep the kills coming, but as these movies go on and on they become more and more about these people who I simply do not care about.
Scream 3: 1.5/5
Scream 4: 2/5
Scream + Scream 6 (2022, 20223 dir. Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett)
Tumblr media
Sadly, new directors couldn't fix this movie. They continue to perpetuate every flaw of the Craven films, and somehow manage to make them worse. The characters are just as flat, the movie is still way to long, and despite all the talk of "requels" , "elevated horror" and "reboots'' the satire continues to feel dated and overall blunt. I'm sorry, Scream franchise but saying something is a trope then doing it is neither funny or good satire.
I also personally find these two insulting as they try to knock sigh "whiney snowflake nerds with letterboxed" accounts down a peg for not enjoying.... shallow cashgrab franchise shlock? very strange angle for a satire to take but alright I guess. Also this film trys to tackle social media and. Just fails so horribly on it. At least 6 finally had some good kills.
Scream (2022): 0.5/5
Scream 6: 2/5
Better Call Saul S6 (2022, shrn.  Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould.)
Tumblr media
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA. That is my emotions on the end of this show. OH MY GOD what a ride this series has been, did you know I actually started it to get some inspiration for a long abandonded fanfiction? because I did. And GOD am I ever glad I did because the payoff, the journey was incredible. I haven't been this nethralled by a TV show in perhaps ever. I was on the edge of my seat for the entirtiy of season 6, just waiting to see how it would all come crashing down and MY GOD did it ever.
It is so hard for me to be and speak normally about this show, in fact I don't think I could even if I tried so I'm just going to leave it at that. Until next week folks!

all my thoughts, they're shaped like you: huh yunjin x fem! reader
request: i was wondering if you could write smth about yunjin and reader having a sleepover? it can be a smut or not js however you'd like <3
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
a/n: i decided to write this as sfw instead of smut just bc im...not confident in my smut writing abilities rn so i hope this will suffice! enjoy and thank you so much for requesting. *please note all pictures and videos are used for creative reference to give readers a visual of hair, makeup, clothes, shoes, etc. ONLY*
guilty was your first comeback in six months and by far your most successful since your debut four years ago. originally the song was to go to one of your seniors, but it was pushed your way when another caught his attention. the song was much more mature than the other songs you'd put out in the past which increased attention towards this new side of you as an artist. the past four weeks were filled with long schedules of music and variety show appearances, photoshoots, and too many fansigns to count. however, today was the last day of schedules before you got a two week long break to rest and recover.
you stood in front of your manager who was pressing you to take pictures for instagram before you got whisked away elsewhere. he smiled as you posed and the rest of your staff members made positive comments about you and your performance outfit. you didn't even bother settling back into your dressing room because not even two seconds later there was a knock at the door. you rushed over to open it and a small face peeked through as you beamed from ear to ear.
eunchae shyly greeted your staff members and you before she stepped back and onced you over with a gasp, "you're so pretty!" you reached forward and pulled her into a hug, "you're so precious oh my god." she giggled and led you down the hallway to the room where she films Eunchae's Star Diary. when you both got inside she motioned for you to sit down and she followed behind you.
for a moment there was silence after you introduced yourself before you and eunchae began laughing and you admitted in english, "i'm sorry i don't want to be awkward...it's this is just a little funny to me because we've never actually met." eunchae agreed and answered in korean, "yeah this is our first time meeting, but i feel like i know about you a lot because yunjin unnie talks about you all the time." similar to a professional she continued, "with your new comeback, can you tell us a little bit about the album and your favorite song?" you nodded and explained more professionally, "guilty is my first album since six months ago. it's also a different sound than what i've put out before. this time i wanted to focus on something that everyone can connect with."
eunchae looked at you with wide eyes and prompted you to continue so you added, "guilt is an emotion that everyone has to some extent or another. it's a feeling that has a negative connotation and that's something i wanted to change. of course singing about positive things is good, but i think singing about negative things and presenting them in a beautiful way is equally as important. more specifically, my single guilty’ is about a selfish love that hurts the other person. it’s not coming from my experience, but i used it as a way to define what love is and express it on stage.”
the younger girl looked at you and sighed, "everything you say sounds so smart." you laughed and shyly dismissed the complement out of habit before she asked you, "who was the first person to hear the single?" you side eyed her and she grinned because she already knew the answer but for the sake of her show you sighed, "huh yunjin of le sserafim." eunchae pointed and laughed at your facial expression and you playfully rolled your eyes but she shared happily, "yunjin unnie has been singing the song nonstop since it came out. when it dropped she was telling all of us in the dorm that she heard it first! she kept bragging that it was so good but didn't tell us any hints! but it was worth the wait because the comeback is incredible, unnie!" heat bloomed in your chest at the thought of yunjin listening to your music and bragging about how talented you were to those closest to her.
˖⁺‧₊˚♡˚₊‧⁺˖
the minute you got back into your apartment after your schedule all of your messages came rushing into your notifications. your best friends had blown up your phone all day which honestly wasn't new, but scrolling through 100+ messages was kinda annoying when you were tired. then, like clockwork your phone started ringing and you answered to see one of your best friends on your screen, "hey i don't know if you saw somi's texts or not but we're having a sleepover at your place tonight." immediately you responded, "who is we? you speak french now?" on the other line she laughed and said, "don't be like that y/n."
you whined, "aeri! i just finished promotions im TIRED! and why my place and not somi's?" aeri let out a small huff and said, "somi's apartment flooded like ten minutes ago so we can't stay there. you know the rest of us aren't allowed people to stay overni-" you cut her off immediately, "hold on it's not just you and somi?" aeri looked off to the side and bit her lip, "uh...so funny story..." before she could answer someone snatched her phone and continued, "jen is coming too." you spat out the water you were sipping, "WHY WOULD YOU INVITE YUNJIN?!" somi answered casually, not taking her eyes off of the road, "i thought you would've worked stuff out by now. besides it's kinda shitty if we have a sleepover and exclude one person. it's called a friend group for a reason, right?" you huffed, "yeah i guess..."
˖⁺‧₊˚♡˚₊‧⁺˖
the friend group started just as you and giselle when she entered SM entertainment back in December of 2019. the two of you clicked immediately even though you were technically her senior, having debuted that past summer. along with her members, they were the only girls close to your age in the entire company so you were quick to befriend them as soon as you were allowed. months after meeting giselle, you met somi who debuted a month before you as a soloist. then you introduced the two and the three of you were a trio of best friends...until yunjin came into the picture.
you and yunjin were familiar with one another but you only met once at a music show when you were promoting at the same time. from there you introduced her to somi and aeri, and she was added into the friend group. once you added her into the small bunch of friends you all were complete, and dubbed, The Plastics, by fans.
for the most part everything was fine with you four except that there were times when it was hard to meet up because of busy schedules. however, you started trying to distance yourself a bit when you realized that you had a crush on yunjin. the cardinal rule of friend groups was don't date other people in the same group. despite aeri and somi swearing up and down to you that yunjin liked you back, you refused to feed into it. your best friends weren't liars but you just couldn't bring yourself to believe them for whatever reason. besides even if you confessed to yunjin you didn't think much would come of it besides a ruined friend group. so you decided that you were just going to continue trying to compartmentalize your feelings and gaslighting yourself into thinking you didn't like her.
˖⁺‧₊˚♡˚₊‧⁺˖
you ran to your room trying to get everything ready for your friends, the least you could do is have a clean apartment. the vaccuum drowned out the sounds of the city streets below your building as you dragged it across your area rug. you hummed along to oceanfromtheblue that blasted through your headphones, further muting the noise from the outside world. unbeknownst to you, yunjin had already entered your apartment. she got in using the 10 digit code on your door that she memorized just in case because that's what friends do...right?
a pair of hands gently caught your hips as you backed up with the vaccuum in hand making you scream and jump. you whipped around to see yunjin standing before you looking perfect as usual. she was only in a pair of sweatpants and a hoodie with those ugg slippers she liked to leave in your apartment for when she visited you. even in a basic dressed down outfit she still looked like an angel with her red hair pulled into a messy bun with a few loose strands framing her face. the pair of glasses she wore sat low on her nose causing her to push them up before pulling you into a hug. she laughed and apologized, "y/n i'm sorry! i called out your name a few times i thought you would have heard me." you let out the breath you'd been holding and assured her, "no it's fine i shouldn't have had my headphones this loud..."
there was an awkward silence and her eyes found yours bringing out a pinkish hue to her cheeks that was only reserved for you. her hands remained on your hips and you brushed a piece of her hair from her face and tucked it behind her ear. the simple action sent butterflies straight to her stomach and made her catch her lip between her teeth. neither of you knew where this was headed but right before you two could figure it out, the front door swing open and aeri entered with somi, "HEY BITCHES- oh." the two of you jumped and yunjin inched away from you, "heyyyy!" somi motioned between the two of you, "did we just interrupt something or?" immediately you refused, "no we were just um... yeah anyways hey guys." you paused and realized the two let themselves in, "wait- how did you two get inside?" yunjin and your manager were the only two people who knew the password for your apartment so how did they manage to get in?"
somi pointed to her phone and said, "i wrote it down the last time yunjin and i were over. the real question is why does yunjin know it and we don't. i thought we were friends." the blonde placed her hands on her hips and pouted to which aeri added, "how do you even remember all those numbers anyways?" yunjin responded, "i memorized it after seeing y/n do it once. and it's not hard, i just remember important things." both aeri and somi shared a glance and you joked, "so basically i need to make a new passcode. got it." the three of them laughed and put their bags down so you could start your plans for the night.
˖⁺‧₊˚♡˚₊‧⁺˖
yunjin pulled out a vlogging camera from her bag and said, "i know we usually have a 'no work stuff' policy for our hangouts but i have to vlog and this is the only interesting thing i've done all week." your other friends started getting baking utensils and ingredients out of your pantry and cabinets while you preheated your oven.
the american idol stood in front of the camera and started speaking, "hi everyone! today i'm with my friends- and we're going to do the blind, mute, deaf challenge while cooking. y/n is being so kind to let us use her kitchen today!" you fake side eyed her and muttered, "you all showed up on my doorstep unannounced but okay." the three laughed and finished setting up the things you'd need.
since it was yunjin's vlog she decided how roles were split up and it was through rock paper scissors: aeri was deaf, somi and you were blind, yunjin was mute. for the sake of your kitchen and everyone's safety she decided to have two people who weren't allowed to speak. before starting the challenge yunjin explained, "so we already have the roles assigned. basically we are going to try to cook dinner together with our roles and we aren't allowed to switch or break character. so aeri is deaf- she already has her headphones on." she pointed the camera to aeri who was in her own world listening to some tyga song on blast, not paying attention to anyone else. yunjin continued, "somi and y/n are blind- wait do we have a blindfold?" she turned to you and you shook your head, "why would i have a blindfold? somi smirked and winked, "i have many blindfolds." yunjin slapped her arm and she laughed, "what?" you huffed in fake annoyance, "we should have made her one of the mute ones. yunjin finished explaining, "and i'm mute so i'm going to be silent because i didn't want to tape my face. anyways, aeri is the only one that can see the recipe and we have to follow her directions." you ended up finding two scarves in one of your drawers to tie around your and somi's heads and you all started the challenge.
˖⁺‧₊˚♡˚₊‧⁺˖
"OKAY! BOIL THE POT OF WATER!" aeri shouted loudly making you flinch at the sudden outburst. you reached your hands in front of you as you cautiously dug a pot out from your cabinet and placed it in somi's hands. the blonde started to slowly walk to your sink, hitting the front of it with a soft thud and a whine while the rest of you laughed. somi filled the pot up and gently walked it back with the help of yunjin before she turned on the stove. the rest of it went like this, yunjin slightly helping you while aeri screamed the directions to you all.
when it came to cutting the chicken somi backed away from the counter, "i don't wanna touch it ew." you muttered, "you big baby." aeri asked in confusion, "YOU SAID YOU HATE ME?" the three of you burst out laughing while aeri stood still confused, looking around then into yunjin's camera as if it would talk back to her. you stood in front of the cutting board with the raw chicken and grabbed the knife that was within reach. you thought aloud, "this is probably a bad idea having the blind one do this part of the challenge but...i have bandaids."
somi was busy trying to drain the pasta from the water with the help of aeri guiding her as yunjin nervously watched you handle the knife and raw meat. yunjin tensed as she watched you nearly cut your finger once and then placed a hand on your arm. this time you didn't jump at her touch and let her come behind you. her hands placed gently atop yours and you giggled before playfully asking, "oh my god what is this? so romantic." beside you somi and aeri pretended to gag, somi not even facing the right direction as she teased you. when you both finished cutting the meat, yunjin moved from behind you and immediately you missed her body pressed against yours.
the remainder of you all cooking was a hot mess. from aeri forgetting she was in charge of instructions to take mini dance breaks, to somi trying to spoon in pasta water into the sauce with a fork by accident, yunjin trying to mime out her questions about the recipe to aeri, and you walking smack into the open refrigerator door- the whole thing was a mess. but an entertaining one that fans would love to watch once it was uploaded. somehow by some miracle you all managed to make the food exactly how it was supposed to taste which paid off at the end.
˖⁺‧₊˚♡˚₊‧⁺˖
hours passed and aeri and somi had fallen asleep after crying their eyes out to the notebook that just finished playing. you poked aeri with your foot and her head lolled to the side limply making you and yunjin laugh. you pointed to your tv and asked, "did you like the movie?" the red aired woman nodded and mumbled quietly, "yeah, it was good. i understand the hype now but it was sad too. i love a happy ending but leading up to it was sad, you know?" you agreed and admitted, "i was mad when they made me watch it for the first time so you're better than me. all of that emotion just for me to get something kinda nice at the end, it was exhausting." she hummed in agreement and you both fell silent.
yunjin's hands brushed your hair gently, the softness of your silk press beneath her fingers was different from the way you usually wore it. unlike when most people touched your hair, you didn't pull away or dodge her hands running through the strands. instead you scooted closer to her and smiled when she began dutch braiding one of the sides on your head. the two of you basked in the quiet which was the first of it's kind tonight.
there was a small snag in your hair that caused you to almost whimper when her long fingers tugged at it. yunjin murmured an apology and pressed a gentle kiss to the spot before continuing. she then spoke up, "imagine just...forgetting who you are and everyone you love like that."
you didn't think before answering, "i almost did. when i left home and came here. i was around people that said i needed to leave my old life behind if i wanted to be successful here. i was naive and thought it was true, that my past would hold me back so i tried to let it all go. i only realized they were wrong after i was all alone." yunjin began braiding the other side of your head and asked, "so how'd you fix it?" you answered, "i met people who were like me and i made friends and talked to people. i tried to do things that reminded me of home, like being around you guys." yunjin finished your two braids and you turned around to see her smiling at you fondly. she could see the slight pain hidden behind your gaze as you recall one of the harder times in your life.
yunjin sighed and blurted out, "you smell like home." for a moment she froze and you pulled away and asked, "like new york? cuz that's not a complement if i smell like a new york street." yunjin laughed and answered nervously, "no you just...i don't know you're just- whenever i'm with you i feel at home." she moved down to the floor mattress you laid out earlier that night, knowing somi and aeri would be laid out on the couch like they are now.
you laid side by side as you told yunjin, "it feels like that with you too, like i'm back in the states just living without worries like now." yunjin bit her lip debating on if she wanted to do this now, but she caved into herself, "that's not what i meant but it's okay." you turned to face her, now laying on your side as you asked, "what did you mean then?"
yunjin felt her heart begin to race and she tried to brush it off, "no there's nothing." but you were determined to understand what she meant so you asked, "no, talk to me. what's going on in your head? tell me. i want to know, i want to know everything about you." of course yunjin knew that you weren't ever going to force her to speak, so she still had an out if she wanted to just not continue the conversation. however, she was tired doing this same dance with you where she almost admitted her feelings then ran away at the last minute. she knew that even if you didn't feel the same way that you wouldn't let that ruin the friendship you already have so she bit the bullet.
there was a pause then yunjin huffed and confessed "when i'm with you i feel safe, like i have nothing to worry about. i can just be myself and i know you'll never judge me or leave because i express myself the way i want to. whenever i'm not with you, you're still living in my head...all of my thoughts, they're shaped like you. i love you and i love being around you and being with you and i never want to leave your side which is why i try not to come too close because i can't risk fucking this up. but here i am telling you what i told myself i'd take to the grave so...just promise me if this screwed everything up and judging by your silence i think it did- just pretend it never happened and leave somi and aeri out of thi-" you refused to let her talk herself into thinking she ruined everything, "i love you too."
yunjin's breath caught in her throat and you repeated, "i love you too, huh yunjin. i love you so much and i love being around you and with you too." she sat up so she was upright then looked back down at you until you were sitting beside her. the small nightlight on your hallway outlet was the only thing allowing you to see her eyes locked on yours. you inched closer to her and brought your arms to rest on her shoulders while her hands were on your waist. her long fingernails scratched the ribbing of your tank top while your fingers twirled with a piece of her hair.
her forehead pressed against yours and you whispered, "what does this make us then?" yunjin shrugged and giggled which made you smile, "i dunno but we can figure it out together?" you asked, "yeah?" she nodded and you noticed how she eyed your two friends who were asleep tangled together yet half off the couch. she looked back at you and asked, "so when do we tell them?" you scrunched your nose and placed a gentle peck on yunjin's lips. the red haired woman paused then kissed you twice more, "who says we have to?" right when you pressed your lips against hers for the last time, a bright flash lit up your entire living room. you both looked over and aeri smacked somi's arm as she soft whisper yelled, "what part of NO FLASH did you not understand?" the two smiled as big as they could from ear to ear before yunjin let out a huff and sighed, "you all suck."

S3 of THE BOYS is here and it is still as unhinged, unapologetically depraved and unyielding in its humor and depravity.
Tumblr media
Joining the cast this season is Jensen Ackles, late of CW's SUPERNATURAL, which was created by THE BOYS' creator/showrunner Eric Kripke.
Sadly Ackles won't let the show die. He's a producer on the prequel series for THE CW focusing on the parents of Sam and Dean Winchester.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This season Tomer Capone is being credited with his actual surname Capone, whereas in previous years he's worked as either Tomer Kapon or Tomer Capon (S1 and S2 of THE BOYS).
He follows with other actors who have gone back to their roots like Thandie Newton who now goes by her real name Thandiwe, A DISCOVERY OF WITCHES Greg Chilling who now acts under his real surname Chillingrian and A MILLION LITTLE THING and PSYCHE's James Roday who added his real surname Rodriguez to his stage name.
I'm just waiting for THE VAMPIRE DIARIES Paul Wesley to see the light and return to acting as Paul Wasilewski.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The first three episodes have dropped and what nonsense did THE BOYS bring to the yard?
SPOILERS
-While we have to wait until episode six to get the fabled "Herogasm" episode, episode 1 was likely a teaser of the insanity that will unfold in that episode. The first episode finds Frenchie and Kimiko after an Atom/Ant-Man-esque Supe named Termite who, in uses his body as a sounding device to give pleasure to his hook-up. Nostrils smarting from the lines he was snorting he sneezes while inside his partner effectively exploding him.
The Ant-Man v. Thanos fans got their wish.
Tumblr media
There were other things that were cribbed from fan culture like -
-The Bourke Cut with DAWN OF THE SEVEN director Adam Bourke having fans hashtagging his crap, which is a direct nod to JUSTICE LEAGUE's SnyderCut fan campaign. Which was so annoying, but I do doff my cap to the SynderCut zealots who rigged the Oscars' Favorite Moment campaign and got a Flash scene from JUSTICE LEAGUE to best SPIDERMAN: NO WAY HOME. Not all heroes wear capes. Literally. Barry doesn't wear a cape.
-The line from Allison telling Bourke that Tony Gilroy's reshoots saved his film is a nod to Tony Gilroy having to step in to save Star Wars' ROGUE ONE. It could be a nod to Joss Whedon having to step in to finish JL, but c'mon, he didn't save that film.
-Jensen Ackles being cast as the show's version of Captain America is, to me, a nod to how Ackles (and his fans) swears up and down that he was up for Captain America but couldn't do the film because of his SUPERNATURAL schedule.
-Sean Patrick Flanery playing Gunpower when Flanery played the titular character Powder in the 1995 film.
-Homelander with the suicidal girl is a popular panel from a Superman comic. Of course, it ends waaaaaay differently.
Other things I liked about the first three episodes:
- The brief return of Simon Pegg as Hughie's dad.
-The before and after of Hughie's life when he realized the truth about Victoria Neuman. One day he's making smoothies, fixing the perfect breakfast; the next smoothie's splattered in the sink, food's rubbish.
-Characters letting their freak flag fly. The Deep drawing an octopus (the ill-fated Timothy??) into his sex life. Confirmation from what fans gathered from S2 that Frenchie is not just for people sexually open but he is, as well. Vincent Cassel as a safe word is a sexy choice.
-I love when a Nazi decides to k-word themselves but it's funny that Stormfront put up with giving Homelander handy js because she still had hopes that he was on the same Aryan wave she was but when she realized that he's only focused on himself that's what pushed her over the edge.
-Just when I thought Homelander couldn't be any worse of a person he does something nastier and meaner and cruel beyond comprehension. Antony Starr is remarkable because Homelander is truly frightening and almost stomach turning but I can't look away because Starr is so incredible as this character.
-If Hughie and Starlight break up it will be for the best. I'm not 100% convinced that her ex Supersonic is truly there to have her back, but if they got back together that would make perfect sense. She and Hughie are on different paths and as much as she was down for vengeance last season she's easing off it because - while she knows the inherent risks of trying to tangle with Homelander - she's not willing to lose her soul for the cause. Hughie is, though.
-What I didn't like is that Nate Mitchell who plays Black Noir didn't play the young Black Noir. We will never see this poor man onscreen.
Nate next to Karl Urban.

The Doctor in Myths & Historical Impossibilities
Alongside various other mysteries, the book Myths & Historical Impossibilities collates quite a few accounts of the mysterious Doctor figure.
There are tales of a medic involving himself in the works of Shakespeare, a lewd encounter with a painter in the court of King Charles II, and a botched escape from a German POW camp.
The introductory passage to the chapters relating to the Doctor:
"THE UNNAMED DOCTOR" One of the most intriguing and compelling of all the documented historical impossibilities I have come across in my studies so far is what I like to call "The Strange Case of the Unnamed Doctor." Nearly a dozen incidents of this mysterious man cropping up in wildly varying locations and periods of our history makes this one of the most mysterious cases herein. Some have called him the "Bow-Tied Boy," others the "Time Drifter," but whoever he was, or is, he certainly seems to get around…
This passage gives us a few other names by which the "doctor" is known. These seem to be tied to a specific version of the doctor.
Excerpt referring to the casting of a British movie:
As was often the case with the speedy turnaround of the famous Carry On comedy films, publicity pictures were sometimes taken before the cameras even started rolling. Though the actor pictured here (identified as 'John Smith' on the back of the photograph) did not end up playing the role of the Khasi of Kalabar in Peter Rogers' 1968 camp classic Up The Khyber- the role eventually being filled by veteran Carry On star Kenneth Williams - he clearly got as far as a costume fitting. In an entry from 12 March 1968 in Kenneth Williams's diary, Smith is referred to briefly. "Costume's far too big," complains Williams. "Daft idiots offering the role to Smith. Who's heard of him anyway? Should never have turned it down in first place… Met JS briefly yesterday at Pinewood. Nice looking chap. Checked for him later in Spotlight directory - no trace!" No other clues remain as to why or how this 'John Smith' was hired or fired from the movie.
"John Smith" is another name - believed to be an alias - often associated with the doctor, particularly one "Dr. John Smith" who is counted amongst UNIT staff who many believe to be the original "Doctor". What was he doing auditioning for a role in a 'Carry On...' film?
Excerpt regarding a mass prison break during the second world war:
Six months later, every allied prisoner escaped from Stalag Luft 14 in a single night - during an anachronistic stage production of the musical 'La Cage aux Folles', a musical which had yet to be written. Even the Germans were taking part in the performance, and by the time the Schutzstaffel arrived, the commandant was caught in the middle of performing a solo of 'I Am What I Am.'
While comical, if true, this would add weight to the prevailing theory that the doctor is a time-traveller. In this case, he saves prisoners of war but also seems to have damaged the continuity of the timelines.
Tumblr media
Excerpt detailing an appearance in the Bayeux Tapestry:
The Bayeux Tapestry - though, of course, not actually a tapestry - has fascinated scientists, historians and the public alike for centuries. Of all the images depicted in this fascinating commemoration of the events surrounding the Norman Conquest, none is more difficult to comprehend than the seemingly anachronistic figure in the bow tie pointing towards what is now widely thought to be Halley's Comet. Could he be our Unnamed Doctor? And what of the strange words 'Cooee pond"? Certainly not Latin. A joke by the nuns who embroidered this masterpiece, perhaps? We may never know.
Tumblr media
This is one of many strange anomalies that can be found within the Bayeux Tapestry, including lizard people and a blue box. The image matches well with one of the reported "doctors," of whom there seem to be many.
Appearance of what is possibly the Doctor in an extended nursery rhyme:
This I stumbled across in an 1819 book entitled Mrs Molbury's Collected Rhymes Both Ancient and Modern. Though the first verse is the same as those usually found in texts of this period, the rest of the tale is very different indeed. What could a 'Sontaran' be? Considering a 'humpty-dumpty' is supposedly a 17th-century beverage of boiled brandy and ale, might this Sontaran too have been an ancient cocktail of some kind? And could the 'Fool' in question be the Unnamed Doctor?: Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall, Humpty Dumpty had a great fall. All the King's Horses and all the King's Men Couldn't put Humpty together again. But then came a cry, 'twas from the King's Fool: Opining that bow ties look fashionably cool. He stepped from a blue box and said with a grin: "What a terrible pickle you've got yourselves in."
Tumblr media
Curiously, not only is this the first time in history Humpty-Dumpty is explicitly referred to as an egg, the illustrations for this edition include a blue box. The language is also anachronistic, and the word "Strax" also appears within reports of the "Paternoster Gang" in reference to a henchman or butler whose "countenance was too abominable to be photographed."
More historical mysteries and references to "the unnamed doctor" are available to read about in Professor Clifford Measey's Myths & Historical Impossibilities, which I highly recommend to all of you. If you don't want to invest money, please check it out at your local library. It really is a fascinating read.

The Scream movie franchise is back at the forefront of the horror movie landscape with the recent release of the series’ fifth installment simply titled “Scream.”
Scream is somewhat of an anomaly in the horror movie genre, as it’s never overstayed its welcome. With only five films and a television series on MTV that lasted three seasons, Scream hasn’t oversaturated the marketplace compared to horror franchises such as Halloween, Friday The 13th, and A Nightmare on Elm Street.
Scream may have fallen victim to the most amount of mockery and satire with the “Scary Movie” parody movies of the early 2000s. For many, they may have been their first introduction to the Ghost Face horror icon. However, because the Scream movies have a blend of mystery and comedy to go along with their slasher-horror foundation, the parodies haven’t negatively impacted the films too significantly.
When Scream first came out in theatres in the mid-1990s, the horror genre was at a low point with an inflation of sequels that seemed to get worse and worse. Scream would turn out to be a tent-pole film in the horror landscape similar to films like Psycho, The Exorcist, Halloween, and A Nightmare on Elm Street that would influence the genre for years to come.
When famed horror icon Wes Craven signed on to direct Scream, he already had experience handling a self-referential film with 1994s New Nightmare. While the film wasn’t a financial box office success, it was met with relatively positive reviews by critics and was the perfect film to direct before Scream.
Scream was the first film written by screenwriter Kevin Williamson who would go on to pen films such as ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer,’ ‘The Faculty,’ ‘Cursed,’ and television sows such as ‘Dawson’s Creek’ and ‘The Vampire Diaries.’ His writing would guide the horror genre over the next decade spawning numerous films that attempted to imitate either Scream’s meta-style or teenage drama backdrops.
Despite the number of spoofs that the Scream franchise has endured, it is arguably one the most consistent in the horror genre. It is rare for a horror franchise to have the same director and writer for the original and most of its sequels. Besides the Evil Dead franchise, where the first three films were all directed by Sam Raimi, Scream has the advantage of having the first four films directed by Wes Craven and three of the four written by Kevin Williamson.
Having the same team of Craven and Williamson has helped the Scream film series maintain a certain quality level avoiding any extreme low points that plagued franchises like Halloween and A Nightmare on Elm Street.
For example, the Halloween film series didn’t have the same director for two consecutive films until Rob Zombie took over the franchise in 2007.
We will be looking at all five films in the Scream franchise and ranking them in order from the worst to the best. All five films, in my view, are good to great movies that all have their moments.
The top and the bottom are solidified and unlikely to change in the future; however, it’s the middle portion where they may be some controversy as, in some respects, these films are interchangeable with similar qualities.
5. Scream 3
Release: February 2000
Box Office: $161,834,276
Director: Wes Craven
"The past will come back to bite you in the ass. Whatever you think you know about the past, forget it. The past is not at rest. Any sins you think were committed in the past are about to break out and destroy you. "  -- Jamie Kennedy - Randy Meeks
The universally most lambasted film in the Scream franchise was its third installment that came out in early 2000. Of the first four installments, this was the only one not written by Kevin Williamson, but instead by Ehren Kruger.
The progression for the third film to take place in Hollywood is logical. A large majority of the film’s setting takes place on the movie studio set of Stab 3, the film within a film series introduced in Scream 2.
Scream 3 brings to screen some of the real-life issues the film was having with the script being unfinished by making it part of the movie.
The Scream movies are known for having amazing opening scene’s and Scream 3 is no different with Liev Schreiber’s Cotton Weary being killed. There is a give and take in killing off Cotton Weary as the scene itself is well done establishing the stakes on the line in the movie; however, killing off one of the strongest characters of the franchise thus far may have been detrimental to the overall film.
One of the most divisive aspects of Scream 3 lies in its supporting cast.
How much you enjoy this third installment may depend on how you feel about Parker Posey’s portrayal of actress Jennifer Jolie who is playing Gale Weathers in Stab 3, Patrick Warburton, Jennifer McCarthy, and Patrick Dempsey’s Detective Mark Kincaid.
If you find these characters comedic, you might like Scream 3 more than most. However, if you find their characters to be more of a nuisance, then the movie may take a turn for the worst when they are on screen.
Neve Campbell’s Sidney Prescott isn’t as heavily featured in the film as the previous two entries due to her schedule coinciding with filming other projects such as Party of Five and Drowning Mona.
David Arquette and Courteney Cox pick up the weight for Campbell becoming the central characters in the film.
Unlike the other four films in the franchise, Scream 3 only has one killer in Roman Bridger (Scott Foley).
The long-lost brother aspect that planned all of the events of the preceding films is convoluted and opens up more questions than answers. The near-supernatural actions of Ghostface with the magic voice box that can imitate all of the character's voices feel out of place in a series that was somewhat grounded in reality.
Regardless of some of the new over-the-top characters and questionable actions of the killer, Scream 3 isn’t a complete failure or even a terrible movie. Due to the Columbine school tragedy, Scream 3 also suffers from a lack of violence and feels tame at times.
Compared to some of the horror genre’s worst sequels like Seed of Chucky or Halloween: Resurrection, Scream 3 is levels ahead.
4. Scream 5 (Scream)
Release: January 20222
Box Office: $30,018, 805
Director: Matt Bettinelli-Oplin and Tyler Gillett
Writers: James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick
"I’m Sidney F@cking Prescott. Of course, I have a gun."  -- Neve Campbell - Sidney Presscot
The return of Scream came as a surprise to numerous fans in and outside of the horror sphere. After its initial trilogy that ended in 2000, another entry in the Scream franchise didn’t come out until 2011, and now, a decade later, we have a reboot-style sequel in 2022.
For as much money as the Scream movies have made, the creators behind the scenes have not allowed the series to fall into the trap of having too many sequels.
Scream 2022 or Scream 5 was directed by the duo Matt Bettinelli-Oplin and Tyler Gillett, best known for 2019s ‘Ready or Not’. The team brings out the most meta-version of Scream with it constantly referencing horror films and frequent tropes.
The sequel-reboot features the best performance by David Arquette in the entirety of the franchise. Arquette’s Dewey Riley is the central legacy character of the film that spends the most amount of time with the new cast.
Establishing a new set of characters is difficult, but Scream does a beautiful job connecting them to previous entries. Jenna Ortega and Melissa Barrera play Tara and Sam Carpenter, bringing an emotional foundation to the film.
Other standouts include Jasmine Savoy-Brown as Mindy Meeks, Jack Quaid as Richie Kirsch, and Mikey Madison as Amber Freeman, bringing a familiar energy to the film reminiscent of the 1996 original.
While the new Scream does have some comedic moments, specifically with David Arquette and Jack Quaid, the film does take a more serious tone at times to a detriment.
The first four Scream movies did have soap opera family elements; however, this version of Scream takes it to another level with numerous dramatic scenes. For a film that is so self-aware, it feels somewhat out of place to go in a more dramatic tone than a comedic one.
Neve Campbell’s Sidney Prescott, along with Courteney Cox’s Gale Weathers, are used sparingly in the film, but when they are in the movie, especially in the final act, they are used in tremendous fashion.
The film’s third act tends to hit the audience over the head too much with its self-awareness. The aim is to criticize toxic fandom on the Internet that seems unhappy with any direction taken on established franchises in and out of the horror world.
But, constantly bringing up past issues in horror movies and fandom in general and then proceeding to do the same things in your own film feels hypocritical even if done on purpose.
Scream 2022 does a fine job bringing the series back to prominence with a great cast, proper usage of legacy characters, and bloody kills. But it also highlights the high quality of the other sequels, ultimately falling just short.
3. Scream 2
Release: December 1997
Box Office: $172,363,301
Director: Wes Craven
Writer: Kevin Williamson
"You'd better check your conscience at the door sweetie. I'm not here to be loved."  -- Courteney Cox - Gale Weathers
Less than a year after the release of the original Scream in 1996, Wes Craven and the team went to work on a sequel. It’s scarce for a direct sequel, especially in the horror genre, to match the quality of its predecessor; however, the first sequel to the story of Sidney Prescott comes close.
On review aggregate website Rotten Tomatoes, Scream 2 holds the highest score of the franchise at 81%. It sits above both the first and latest entries in the series and is held as one of the best horror sequels of all time.
Following up an iconic opening scene like the one in 1996s Scream is daunting. But Craven and Williamson crafted another memorable opener in Scream 2.
Introducing the ‘Stab’ films in Scream 2 was clever, giving the movie another Meta dimension.
The opening scene with Jada Pinket-Smith and Omar Epps at the movie theater is one of the best in the franchise allowing for an audience perspective.
The success of Scream (1996) gave room for the cast to expand, adding Joshua Jackson, Timothy Olyphant, Heather Graham, and Luke Wilson, and at the time one of the biggest stars in television Sarah Michelle Gellar.
A majority of the original cast is back, such as Jamie Kennedy’s Randy Meeks, one of the most beloved characters in the entire series. Randy’s death is still divisive to this day; however, it does give Scream 2 more weight with the impression that no one is safe.
One of the reasons Scream 2 isn’t higher on this ranking is primarily due to one scene. In the most cringe-inducing scene of the franchise, Sidney Prescott’s boyfriend Derek, played by Jerry O’Connell, stands up in the cafeteria and does a rendition of ‘I Think I Love You.’ It’s perplexing why this scene was kept in the movie, as it feels so out of place that it derails the film’s pacing.
The climax reveals of the movie is well done, with Laurie Metcalf pulling out a stellar performance as the crazed mother of Billy Loomis. Timothy Olyphant is also serviceable as Mickey, although his motivation of wanting to be caught to go to trial is puzzling.
Scream 2 does not have reached the heights of the original. But for a sequel to come out one year later to have the same director and writer with most of the same cast and include multiple standout moments is a rarity in any film genre.
2. Scream 4
Release: April 2011
Box Office: $97,231,420
Director Wes Craven
Writer: Kevin Williamson
"Spare me the lecture! You've done very well by all this bloodshed, haven't you? Well, how about the town you left behind? I've got plans for you. I'm gonna slit your eyelids in half so you don't blink when I stab you in the face. You'll die when I want you to, Sidney, not a moment before. Until then, you're going to suffer!"  -- Ghostface
The most controversial and divisive ranking on this list will be 2011s Scream 4. At the box office, Scream 4 so far has been the least successful. It was the final film directed by Wes Craven before his death in 2015.
It is also one of the most underrated sequels in horror film history. Quite frankly, the criticism held towards this film may be due to timing rather than the movie’s quality.
Compared to the most recent Scream, the fourth installment’s usage of legacy characters such as Sidney Prescott is better utilized, and bringing together a cast of new characters is exceptionally done here.
Hayden Panettiere puts out possibly her best performance on film as Kirby Reed, who is now one of the most adored characters in all of the franchise. Scream 2022 doesn’t have a new character that comes close to being as well written.
Along with Panettiere, numerous new characters stand out, including Emma Roberts (Jill Roberts), Alison Brie (Rebecca Walters), Rory Culkin (Charlie Walker), and Marley Shelton (Deputy Judy Hicks).
One of the unsung heroes of the horror genre is Roger L. Jackson, who has done the voice of Ghostface for all the Scream films. Not since the original Scream has Ghostface felt more threatening when speaking to his potential victims. The threats feel deadly, and the tone used when speaking is menacing.
Scream 4 also has some of the best kills in all the franchise, with the most notable being that of Olivia Morris, played by Marielle Jaffe, who is left with her intestines out in a blood-soaked bedroom.
The progression of characters like Sidney Prescott as an author using her own experiences to produce a pseudo-self help book, Dewey as the Sheriff of Woodsboro, and Gale Weathers struggling to develop new stories to write about after ten years of peace is natural and realistic.
The movie avoids making one of them a version of Sarah Connor.
The most significant detriment that provides ammunition to critics of Scream 4 is in the opening.
All of the Scream films usually have outstanding openings; however, Scream 4’s introduction relies too heavily on being Meta using the film within a film trope while criticizing the state of the horror film landscape.
The ending also overstays its welcome by lasting too long.
The reveal of the killers and their motivation to film all the kills and then post them online to make their own movie was unique and more creative than what was done in the successor.
Scream 4 may not have been as well-received when it first came out in 2011, but over time it could prove to be the most consistent of the franchise outside of the original.
1. Scream
Release: December 1996
Box Office: $173,046,663
Director: Wes Craven
Writer: Kevin Williamson
"Now Sid, Don’t You Blame The Movies. Movies Don’t Create Psychos. Movies Make Psychos More Creative!"  -- Skeet Ulrich - Billy Loomis
The top spot was an obvious choice as Wes Craven’s 1996 Scream is one of the greatest horror films of all time.
Scream was a monumental film in horror that brought about numerous clones and parodies that, over time, have not aged as gracefully as the film they were copying.
Scream also established Wes Craven to be neck and neck, with John Carpenter as arguably the greatest director in horror cinema, with each man having numerous classic films in the genre.
The opening scene, along with the unexpected killing of Drew Barrymore, is not only one of the greatest in horror film history, but in film history in general.
Scream immediately brings forth a premise that everyone can relate to having your safety taken away from you in your own home.
The kills may be over-reliant on knife stabbings, and the fact that owning a cell phone is enough to make you a murder suspect hasn’t aged that well; however, the cast from top to bottom elevates the movie to a higher plateau.
Along with Roger L. Jackson, composer Marco Beltrami who did the film’s score, brings out a unique atmosphere that leaves the audience with a sense of dread.
Scream is filled with homages, quotes, and references to classic horror movies like Halloween and Psycho. Arguably, no other film has used callbacks, nostalgia, and fan service in such a satisfying way until the most recent Spider-Man and Avengers films.
The film’s final act revealing Billy Loomis (Skeet Ulrich) and Stu Macher (Matthew Lillard) as the killer duo was perfect, establishing both as memorable psychotic villains.
It must be stated that Neve Campbell’s Sidney Prescott is arguably the greatest final girl in horror cinema history. The character is the perfect blend of strong and vulnerable, making her unique and relatable.
Over the last three decades, few films have had as much impact as Scream did on the horror genre. It still holds up to this day, and its influence makes it a movie that keeps on giving.

Can I just gush for a moment?
I love Anne Hathaway. So much I’ve been RPing three muses here for over 5 years with her faceclaim because she’s an amazing actress with the best facial expressions and with a diverse amount of roles that it wasn’t hard to picture her in so many verses. One canon muse (Mirana) and two OCs. One OC in particular I’ve had for over 15 years and decided to use her as her FC since Ella Enchanted was released.
Tumblr media
Just watch her sing Somebody to Love and the moment she let her hair down I saw her more than just that cutie from Princess Diaries. This girl had talent and dare I say, sex appeal? OMG and some people are JUST NOW realizing that! I mean better late than never! Then every movie she’s been in since she completely owned and stole the show. Ocean’s 8 is not the only film she shined in, people. Just do yourselves a favor and watch her movies please? I mean if I should make a list of my favorite AH films it would be
Princess Diaries (this movie in general holds a special place in my heart forever)
Ella Enchanted
Ocean’s 8
Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement
Love and Other Drugs
Colossal
Alice in Wonderland
Devil Wears Prada
Bride Wars
The Dark Knight Rises
Get Smart
The Intern
Becoming Jane
Les Miserables (her performance still gives me chills and I still sob every time)
Rachel Getting Married
Interstellar
Brokeback Mountain
Valentine’s Day
One Day (but damn like Les Mis, can only watch it when I feel like sobbing)
Nicholas Nickleby (she had a tiny part but baby Charlie Hunnam!)
Rio & Rio 2 (together because I just loved the soundtrack and her singing)
Alice Through the Looking Glass
Passengers
Havoc (omg so bad but lots of sexy Anne in this JS)
I hope it’s not just a phase or she’s not just the “it girl” all over again. To later get all this hate because people get sick of her. It’s such a vicious cycle. But I will declare my love for her always until she does something completely heinous. And no, not when she starts winning awards again and acts all fake because of her anxiety that people had admitted feeling annoyed and uncomfortable watching her. That’ was just the stupidest shit ever and I hope it never happens again. I’ve stood up for her on this hellsite because people would not shut up about how she annoyed them or how just seeing her on their dash “triggered” them.
Tumblr media
Yeah, no lie. I had hate sent to my inbox because they hated not only Miri but her face on their dash as well. All I could hope for them is to block me because they did not make me stop playing this amazing character or stanning my favorite actress. <3
Bragging rights moment: During the F/B Q&A for the last Alice movie, she answered my question and was the sweetest about it. It made my year.
That’s enough gushing from me for now. Whether you’ve been a big fan for years like me, or just now discovered how amazing she is, please feel free to message me and chat. I do want to follow more “Hathalovers” (yes that will become a thing again dammit) and I need people to fangirl over her with me. I feel I annoy my followers with her all over my blog sometimes when I should actually be doing more RPing XD

What I watched this week 3/13-3/19
this week was a little skimpy because I had to work so much, but fret not I still have plenty of stuff for y'all
The Shining (1980, Dir. Stanley Kubrick)
Tumblr media
Did y'all know I go to the "overlook" (The Timberline lodge up in Mt Hood national forest) every year in the summer? It's a beautiful place. Anyways you'd think with that I'd have seen the shining by now, but nope! This was my first time ever watching it! And man - what a film! Nothing beats a well made horror movie, in my humble opinion, with that sweet spot blend of the meta-physical and the physical threats, threatening, stylistic cinematography, and a small-yet-solid cast of characters portrayed by talented actors really giving it there all makes for such a satisfying watch!
I've never read the original novel, where most of the subtext and themes of those movie -obviously - are drawn from, and I likely never will as I generally dislike fiction. However. I still found the themes permeant and the subtext moving despite not having it in full context. That, in my own opinion, is what makes the Shining such an effective adaptation - although I am rather uninformed as I've only ever heard people talk about the book.
Definitely one of my favorite horror movies -5/5
Enemy (2013, dir. Denis Villeneuve)
Tumblr media
Okay so I'm just gonna be frank - I am bad with metaphors and symbolism. I can understand character growth, plot structure, timelines, cinematography, lighting, peroid accuracy, and all sorts of more technical and object elements of a movie. I mostly critique based off of these things, I stay in my lane. It's not that I can't ever understand a metaphor or pick up on any forms of symbolism, it's just not really how my brain works.
That being said, I still really really enjoyed this movie. It was a well made slow paced pysch. thriller that tackles adultery and cheating in a way I've never seen a movie do before. Villeneuve's style, as always, adds such a rich, amazing, and lonely air to the film - one which I think helps enhance it's message.
To condense, this is a film about double lives, about two drastically different halves inside one body. It's about secrets and hiding and ultimately letting the facade all down and the chaos all of that will cause in one's life (illustred quite well by the ending scenes of the film.)
I can't really describe this film, just go watch it for yourself. Unless you can't stand spiders. 4.5/5
Halloween (1978, Dir. John Carpenter)
Tumblr media
After marathoning all 6 Scream movies over the course of 2 weeks, my hopes were really low for Halloween. Specifically because Scream, at least the first one, is a pretty self admitted satire of tropes Halloween brought to the table. But I was really surprised with how good this one was!
I don't really know why? Maybe it's because I don't tend to super love what is super popular? But I'm happy to say Halloween holds up and is a genuinely creepy slasher. John Carpenter's slow, meandering style really lends itself well to the genre - making the final kills feel well deserved and establishing a true sense of fear in the audience. Especially with how hidden Michael Meyer's is from the camera for the first 2 acts.
This films lighting and cinematography are also on another level, the way the film gets both literally and tonally darker as the day drags on, the way Michael is always kept in the shadows, the intimate, stalker-esque camera... It's amazing!
Me and the friend I watched Scream with are doing the same thing but for the Halloween franchise now, but less frequently cause there's no upcoming film. So stay tuned as I work my way through 9 more fucking Halloween movies.
This movie was really well made, though not something I would consider a personal favorite. 4/5.
Breaking Bad Season 4 (2011 shrn. Vince Gilligan)
Tumblr media
So I'm just about finished with season 4 and hollllyyyyyyy shit Vince Gilligian is a mastermind. I've really been enjoying the plotline with Hank catching up to Walt + Gus, and am really excited for the payoff in S5. Jesse's arc continues to carry the show and I want nothing but the best for this man. Please oh god Mike just help this man he NEEDS it.
The scene where he went back and cussed out his old rehab therapist was *amazing* and really hit home with just how far gone he thinks he is and gives you a really good look into his pysche. Speaking of Pysches Walt's undoing is finally starting to rear it's head and boy howdy am I ever ready for that clown to kick the bucket. Fuck that guy.
I also really enjoyed the Gus backstory, and Max's death is probably one of my favorite scenes in the entire series (is that a spoiler? i don't think so...) Anyways brba continues to be a masterpiece and you'll be seeing more of dis.

IXD304 Week 1 Lecture notes
INTRODUCTION
How can we, as designers, use storytelling to enhance context?
Art direction - pacing and narrative
This module has been restructured to be content focused and we will be executing this through the design and creation of a narrative website.
DELIVERABLES & EXPECTATIONS
Narrative Website 60% (week 13)
Research and prototypes 40% (week 13)
This is a 20 credit module - equivalent to 200 hours worth of work.
Deliverable 1:
Body of work worth 60% or 120 hours. Lots of evidence of research and prototyping and iterations.
Immersive prototype (weeks 1-6) worth 30% (60hours)
Responsive website (weeks 7-13) worth 30% (60hours)
Chris will be writing the content and it will feature Sherlock, John, James and Irene. There will be data and locations such as 221b Baker Street. The design and structural decisions are yours.
Deliverable 2
Supporting Materials 40% (80hours)
There should be lots of evidence of work; research, sketches, wireframes and mockups. You must keep a weekly diary of all your research, discovery and exploration. This is easy marks. Reflect on what we have covered in class. Research and write with an emphasis on reflection. Tag everything ixd304. Comment, question and analyse. Don’t be afraid to ask why!
The Brief; Heroes and Villains
2 parts, in sprints:
Sprint 1: Immersive Prototype
Sprint 2: Responsive Website
There will be a crit in between sprints.
Sprint 1:
Visual Design: IA, hierarchy etc
Interactions: micro and macro
30% of Module Marks
Sprint 2:
HTML, CSS, JS
Beautiful web typography
Bells and whistles (google maps API, data visualisation etc)
30% of module marks
LOTS OF ILLUSTRATIONS (Look at Stamen Maps)
Think about doing some data visualisation yourself. Consider your process. Put together some slide decks. Rewatch Sherlock. Think about colour palettes. Typography, illustration, icons etc. Read “Responsive Web Design” by Ethan Marcotte. Start gathering visual inspiration, books, tv, film etc.
I’m really, incredibly, embarrassingly excited about this module. I love Sherlock. Loved the RDJ films and melted through the BBC series. I have some books at home that I’m going to consult for inspiration and definitely going to rewatch the series. Along with Mr Holmes which I’ve never seen but definitely have to watch, if only for Sir Ian McKellan.
The game is afoot.

The tropics before dawn hold a hint of chill along with the promise of growing light. The sea is calm in the early morning hours. A gentle breeze fills your lungs with salty air untouched on its journey across thousands of miles of open ocean. All converge this morning, this place, this meditation. Your mind is at peace and your heart is centered as the first sunrays split the air, cracking through the horizon to bring another day to the islands. This day, anything is possible.
Hawaii is a land unlike any other. From its earliest beginnings—when molten lava exploded from the depths of the earth and sea, when Polynesian voyagers navigated across thousands of miles of empty water to inhabit this island paradise, when Captain Cook began the period of contact with the Western world and paid for it with his life—the islands of Hawaii have constantly evolved, grown, changed.
Sense of adventure? Required. You can see the adventure—quite literally—by watching one of the many blockbuster movies or series filmed in Hawaii: Jurassic Park, Jumanji, Pirates of the Caribbean, Lost, Gilligan’s Island and many others were filmed on island, to tap into the pervasive sense of isolation and the thrill of rising to a challenge. Today, locals and visitors experience the ‘aina (land) in many forms synonymous with adventure: yoga, hiking, surfing, swimming, ziplining, kayaking, even mediating.
The people of Hawaii believe appreciating the land today motivates us to sustain it for tomorrow. Ancient Hawaiians even asked permission from Laka, the goddess of hula and forest plants who dwelled in the forested realms, before hiking into the mountain forests. Today, that same love and respect for nature and spirit of adventure draw many to the islands.
Hiking the Islands
What could be more in tune with the true desire of a yogi? Hike through the mountains in a misting rain, following the roar of falling water until you arrive at the clear pool catching the abundant fresh water pouring off the side of a mountain. Moments of tranquil stillness within the unabated roar that surrounds us allows space to tap into the peace that expands outward from center. It’s having confidence to move forward in hope when trying something new, and appreciating the connection with others—and self—that grows from moments shared, moments we connect, moments we’re renewed.
Your Chance to Fly
Have you ever dreamed of flying? Dreams come true in Hawaii with a variety of ziplining adventures. Walk through ancient forests and smell the spicy sweetness of the sacred woods, then leap out of your comfort zone into a soaring experience unlike any other. Sweep over river valleys, waterfalls, and jungle in this high-flying mode of transportation. Most tours begin with a short drive up to the base of the first zipline. You might pass lush banana or massive monkeypod trees, or catch a glimpse of the broad sweep of the Pacific Ocean.
The staggering Ko’olau mountains tower over much of the island, with tenacious foliage and nearly unreachable jungle clinging to walls of exposed lava rock. You’ll strap into a safety harness and clip into the zipline before teetering at the edge of a platform and making that leap into space for an exhilarating slide of up to half a mile. Catch your breath, then hike on and do it again! Most zipline tours include suspension bridges and short hikes along with zips. Beyond the thrill of zipping, these tours can open up parts of the island inaccessible to most hikers. Some islands (Maui and the Big Island) even offer rappelling down waterfalls as part of the package.
Kayaking
If ziplining doesn’t appeal, pick up a paddle instead; it’s time for a kayaking adventure! Out on the water, you can glide along the fine line between the worlds of sea and sky. This is one time when the journey is truly the destination, so explore the experience at your own pace. Just below the surface, a whole new world emerges: colorful fish, living coral, and honu—so many honu. Encountering one of these protected green sea turtles and watching their fluid grace and surprising speed is an electrifying and unforgettable experience. Open your eyes and heart and tap into the mana—Hawaiian spiritual power and healing energy—to see the island the way the first voyagers did. Marvel at the bold colors that rise out of the water and extend below. Circle an offshore island, or let the wind and waves guide your journey. Floating here gives a sense that nothing lies behind or ahead; everything exists in this moment, and you have arrived.
Stand-Up Paddleboard Yoga
Leave the four walls of your studio behind and let the board be your mat. Even experienced yogis will find new challenges and a greater connection with the elements. A session starts before touching the water—be sure to slather on reef safe, waterproof sunscreen. Drink lots of water and have a small snack to ward off any motion sickness. Boards are anchored in calm ocean water, but waves passing beneath with move the board slightly. All that extra movement can cause people to tense up and hold their breath. Keep breathing. Let your mind take your breath back to the very beginning and focus on breathing in, breathing out, as the waves pass under the board and beyond. When the worst thing that can happen is a slip and a dip in Hawaii’s sparkling waters, how bad can it be? So breathe, try, laugh, and—most of all—don’t be afraid to fall. You can always get back up again.
youtube
A silent step in sand, a spray of salt water, the unfamiliar rustle of palm trees in the winter—the end of the day falls quickly in the tropics, with darkness descending rapidly after the sun sinks again beneath the waves. The evening is soft and warm, colors streaking briefly across the sky as the stars appear—the same stars that lead the first voyagers to this land of adventure, where fears are overcome, where new things begin. When the Big Dipper appears, track the two stars on the front of its ladle. They form a straight line with Polaris, the North Star—the star that guides until the sun again rises. Where is it leading you?

Taskmaster: the Cult British Comedy Show Coming to Save America
https://ift.tt/33bdDVi
Gloom has several remedies. Jogging, alcohol and the excessive consumption of Kit-Kats each have their merits. There’s a fast-acting fix though that, unlike the other three, is highly unlikely to end in vomiting. Its name is Taskmaster and it is the UK’s happy place.
Since 2015, Taskmaster has aired nine series and one special in the UK, growing from a cult delight on digital channel Dave to a Bafta-nominated, millions-attracting hit about to make its debut this autumn on major broadcaster Channel 4.
But all that’s just numbers. In real life, Taskmaster has done much, much more. Ask anyone who loves it and they’ll tell you. This unimprovably silly show in which comedians complete a series of absurd tasks, and then get together to watch the results, be judged, and laugh at themselves, is a holiday from strife. It’s an open window on a suffocating day, and a blessed reminder that whatever else may be going on in the world, people are funny and inventive and magnificently willing to do stupid things to make each other laugh. As the Cheers theme song says, sometimes you want to go where everybody knows your name. Sometimes though, you want to go where Bob Mortimer is demonstrating his patented sausage and pork pie presentation unit and a woman from Bridget Jones’ Diary is inserting slices of cake into a scared man’s armpit.
When a Taskmaster line-up is announced (there are five new comedians each series, giving the show a 50-strong back catalogue of established and rising names in UK comedy), the response isn’t just positive, it’s thank-God-can-we-have-it-now-please grateful. That’s because fans know a new series means a precious 10 hours off. Off work and off worry and off having to think about anything other than whether a man is going to successfully hit a Babybel across a football field with a snooker cue. (He isn’t.) A new series of Taskmaster is respite. It means being among friends and being kept company by inane joy. Great if you’re bored, a lifeline if you’re grieving, struggling to find common ground with your kids, or just struggling full stop.
Comedian and writer Greg Davies plays the titular Taskmaster, a sort of fee-fi-fo-fum giant whose relentless demands for contestants to fill an egg-cup with tears or paint a picture of a horse while riding a horse give the show its premise. Davies judges the comedians’ performances, awarding points that go into a league table and determine the overall winner. His sidekick is series creator Alex Horne, the task umpire who accompanies contestants through their wildly inventive/pitiful endeavours.
In the US, The CW is starting with series eight and nine, on the understanding that if the American viewing public take to the show, they’ll also buy in the previous series. ‘If they do air the rest,’ Greg Davies tells Den of Geek, ‘Alex and I will be getting younger as it progresses, giving it a sort of Benjamin Button-type twist.’
‘The props will be getting cheaper and the Taskmaster house will get stripped down,’ says Horne. The house is the backdrop to most of the tasks and the site of the famous-among-fans shed and caravan. ‘Guess how much the caravan cost,’ Horne challenges Den of Geek. £500? ‘£200. It’s fully plumbed.’

Taskmaster: the top 11 tasks so far
By Louisa Mellor
There was, briefly, a 2017 American remake on Comedy Central but it failed in one key area: time. Cut in half to just 30 minutes an episode, there were fewer tasks and crucially, much less space given to the comedians reacting to their own and others’ performances. A major joy of Taskmaster is the interaction between the five contestants. The comedians are asked not to discuss the tasks – most of which they complete solo – until the studio record, making it the first time they find out how well (or otherwise) they’ve done. The laughs almost all come from the clash between expectation and reality, from the camaraderie and competitive rivalry.
‘Something that I think American viewers should know is how much people want to win the show,’ says Davies. One early task was to buy the Taskmaster a gift for £20. ‘I had some great things bought for me. Someone bought me a title, so I’m a lord now, and someone genuinely had their foot tattooed with my name. That people would actually have their body tattooed for life in order to get points on this show… It seems on the surface to be a frivolous gameshow but it’s life and death for these people.’
The series eight contestants US viewers are going to meet first up are a strong mix of personalities. There’s actor-writer Joe Thomas, a former co-star of Davies in British comedy series The Inbetweeners. ‘He’s quite well-known because The Inbetweeners was an enormous hit in this country,’ says Greg. There’s Paul Sinha from UK gameshow The Chase,‘a former GP, a gay, Asian quiz champion who we’ve since discovered has got Parkinson’s Disease, so he’s got a lot going on,’ says Horne when asked to describe the line-up. ‘He’s very nice and funny,’ says Davies. ‘But very bad at the tasks,’ adds Horne, ‘possibly our worst contestant.’ There’s Car Share’s Sian Gibson, ‘a very good actress and writer and nice person from Wales,’ says Horne. There’s comedian Iain Stirling, the voice of huge UK reality show Love Island, described by Davies and Horne as ‘Scottish, nice, funny and like a puppy.’ Finally there’s stand-up Lou Sanders, ‘a scatty British comedian on the rise,’ says Horne. ‘She’s quite a unique voice,’ adds Davies. ‘She believes in angels.’
Davies calls Taskmaster a joy to be part of and hopes it’s also joyful to watch. ‘Even though I’m horrible to a lot of people on the face of things, it’s meant to be an inclusive show where people can forget about the more troubling things and just be silly with us for a while. I hope that some of that joy makes it over the pond.’
Some of that joy made the journey earlier this year. During UK lockdown, the Taskmaster team introduced Hometasking, which expanded the task-setting premise to the general public. For weeks while UK schools were closed and businesses had put their staff on furlough, the team set tasks online, giving people fun activities to occupy them in a a worrying time. They received record entries from around the world – over a third from North America. If you had 17 minutes downtime, you could do worse than watch this final results video to see just what it meant to those who took part.
The effort devoted to tomfoolery is perhaps what’s most cheering about Taskmaster. Over its many series, teams of people have devised literally hundreds of challenges the sole goal of which is silliness. They’ve debated the comedic merits of throwing a potato into a golf hole and making a Swedish person blush. They’ve considered the practical implications of one comedian wheeling another around inside a bin or driving a golf buggy blindfolded. The risk assessments must be as thick as telephone directories. And they’ve gone to these lengths purely in the interest of good cheer.
Horne hopes that Taskmaster will be embraced in America the way it has been in the UK. ‘It’s a cult-y show here, but a family cult-y show. It’s not too niche, but the people who like it really like it. If that could happen in America, people to really get into it when they discover it, rather than it being a mild curiosity, that’s what I’d love.’
Is Horne worried that the peculiarly British quirks of some tasks might not translate to the US? ‘I’m starting to,’ he tells Den of Geek. Will Americans embrace, or be confounded by, Taskmaster’s distinctive Britishisms? Surely the former, but just in case, here’s a bit of context for our American friends on a few UK-specific task items.
Greg and Alex, over to you.
Taskmaster explains: Marmite
Series 5, Episode 4 Task: Make the best Marmite
Greg Davies: Marmite is a yeast-based spread that you might put on toast. It’s been around since the 1940s, certainly since the war, maybe even before. And for many decades, Marmite has prided itself on its advertising campaign which consistently has been ‘Marmite: You’ll either love it or hate it’ but it’s not true. It’s a lie, at least a 45-year-old lie, because I for one am indifferent to Marmite. I certainly don’t mind it being put on my toast but I wouldn’t ever ask for it. So, the truth of the advertising campaign should be ‘Marmite: You’ll love it or you’ll hate it, and some of you will be absolutely ambivalent to it.’
Taskmaster explains: Christmas Crackers
Series 7, Episode 7: Make the best Christmas cracker
Greg Davies: I can honestly say in all my years on this planet, I have not once enjoyed pulling a Christmas cracker. I think America is leading the way and it’s something we should get rid of. Pulling an explosive tube of cardboard to reveal an awful gift is something this country can do without.
Alex Horne: They are a poor tradition. I have never enjoyed a Christmas cracker. As a dad, we’re just giving children choking hazards at Christmas. They get so excited about the thought of pulling them and then it always ruins the day.
Greg Davies: My mum was a skinflint at Christmas so a typical cracker gift would be a small tape measure.
Alex Horne: A little pack of cards was always a highlight.
Greg Davies: That’s high-end.
Taskmaster explains: Egg Cups
Series 1, Episode 4: Fill an egg cup with tears
Alex Horne: Really? Americans don’t use egg cups? How do they keep their eggs upright? You’d have to chase it around the plate.
Greg Davies: But that means they can’t have soft-boiled eggs? What do they do, hold it in their hands? What do they hold an egg in?! That makes no sense at all. It’s a staple of British crockery!
Alex Horne: An egg cup must be a really peculiarly British thing. We use it as a measuring device because it’s a satisfying item. It’s probably 20 ml or fluid ounces. There must be something they use. It’s probably a shot glass isn’t it? That’s an equivalent.
Greg Davies: A shot glass! Which I do use as an egg cup actually.
Alex Horne: I go the other way around.
Taskmaster explains: Traffic wardens
Series 7, Episode 5: Cheer up this former traffic warden
Alex Horne: They enforce parking restrictions and I guess they’re a sort of jobsworth position, someone who thinks they’ve got a lot of power but doesn’t, and is a constant irritant to the motorist.
Greg Davies: But a saviour for the children.
Alex Horne: Do you mean lollipop ladies?
Greg Davies: I do mean lollipop ladies. I try to be kind to traffic wardens even when I’ve been ticketed because I just think it must be an awful job having that many confrontations a day so I try not to get cross.
Alex Horne: And lollipop ladies?
Greg Davies: I’m furious with them.
Alex Horne: You’d be a lovely lollipop lady, Greg.
Greg Davies: Well I’m sure that’s where I’m headed.
Taskmaster explains: Squirty Cream
Series 6, Episode 4: Make the best art using the entire contents of this can of squirty cream
Alex Horne: Squirty cream is a staple of every British fridge. You spray it straight into your mouth. It’s made of, I think, plastic and no dairy products, and we’re not allowed to show people spraying it directly into their mouth on British TV anymore because of health and safety.
Greg Davies: I’ve got three tins of it in my fridge and every day over lockdown I treated myself to a squirt. Whenever I needed a lift.
Taskmaster explains: aubergines
Series 9, Episode 1: Hide three aubergines from Alex in this room
Greg Davies: There’s a name for it over there. It’s a purple vegetable and I for one would move for us to just get rid of those off the face of the earth. What do they call it over there?
Alex Horne: I’m enjoying this, seeing him scrabble around.
Greg Davies: What does it begin with, the American one?
Alex Horne: It rhymes with your name.
Greg Davies: Greg?
Alex Horne: Yeah. Well, not the whole thing. If your name was Greg Slant, it would rhyme with that.
Greg Davies: My name isn’t Greg Slant though.
There you go, America, hopefully that should now all be crystal clear. Tune in to Taskmaster series 8 in the US at 8pm ET/PT on The CW from Sunday the 2nd of August. Seriously, do, it’s good for what ails you.

Netflix India recently released the trailer for their next thriller, Ms. Serial Killer, with Jacqueline Fernandez, Manoj Bajpayee and Mohit Raina. The Kick actress will star in the film and the trailer looks really promising. This is probably the first time we will see beauty play this kind of character. The story revolves around a woman whose husband is supervised and imprisoned for serial murders. She then takes the burden of proving him innocent and puts on the hat of the serial killer herself. It will now be interesting to see how Jacqueline Fernandez describes this role. From Angelina Jolie, Jennifer Aniston to Gal Gadot and Others - Hollywood Divas That Could Be A Perfect Fit For Jacqueline Fernandez's Ms. Serial Killer Here are some Hollywood actresses who we think can play the role of Jacqueline as a BOSS: Angelina Jolie is someone who can play the role of Mrs. Serial Killer without making any effort. We've seen her make films like Taking Lives, Mr. & Mrs Smith, Salt, Wanted and The Tourist. We have seen her make perfect police thrillers and, therefore, we know that without much effort, she may just be the best at what she does. Jennifer Aniston can be sweet, sassy and bad at the same time. His character from Friends to his recent masterpiece, The Morning Show opposite Steve Carell and Reese Witherspoon, we have seen him grow over the years. Her role in Murder Mystery is what makes us think she can be a perfect fit for Mrs. Serial Killer. Like the way she tries to prove the innocence of her husband, Adam Sandler in Murder Mystery, she can totally be a badass if need be. From The Princess Diaries to The Devil Wears Prada, only Anne Hathaway can make this kind of transition. Not really! Not only that, movies like The Hustle, Havoc, The Last Thing He Wanted and Ocean’s 8 really helped her change the image in Hollywood. She has an innocent face but can really blow you up if need be. Trend Is there something this woman can't do? Like literally. She can simply keep a straight face like Nicole Barber from Marriage Story or Natasha Romanoff aka Black Widow from Avengers, this woman has everything to please. Death doesn't scare this one or it does. Speaking of Avengers: Endgame with The Hollywood Reporter, Johansson said, "The end was sad, but I was excited to die with honor. ” You see, that's what we're talking about. Because she is a versatile actress. She has a captivating smile and that is enough to mislead and trap someone. As she has an innocent face, it cannot be easily understood that she is up to the level of someone suspicious. Also, after seeing her play almost all types of roles, we really want to see her do a "killer" act. The career graph of Sophie Turner aka Sansa Stark in Game Of Thrones was the most progressive. Sophie can be more feminine when needed and more brutal and mature when someone tries to act intelligently with her. From a child actor to become the "Queen of the North", he has put on almost all hats on the way. Who better than her to play the role of Mrs. Serial Killer! Quick confession, my favorite to play the role of Mrs. Serial Killer. Her character in Riverdale is full of surprises. She is tender, gentle but avenging. She wouldn't let you go if you try to touch someone she loves. "She cries in an episode. She is a villain in an episode. She is having fun. She always does something different, "says Madelaine in Vogue's interview on the role of Cheryl Blossom in Riverdale. She would make a good serial killer, I'm sure. We saw her play a crazy role in Jennifer’s Body and there is no doubt that she can be the best Mrs. Serial Killer. She is beautiful with her brain. The craze for Megan Fox was clearly born from Transformers, but we are already drooling over her imaginary look in it (wish that turns into reality!) What made you think that we will not take this Amazonian queen. Gal Gadot aka Wonder Woman is one of the strongest characters in the DC universe and there's no way she couldn't be a serial killer. She would go as far as possible to save her loved ones, revenge and murder are nothing for her. Here is our list. Tell us in the comments section if you think we missed someone and deserves to play the character.
