RAAAAWWWWR IT’S BOWSER!!

Omg I cannot believe I forgot to post the Bowser crochet I made over Christmas!

as befits Bowser, he’s biiiig; you can see my hand for scale in a couple of those photos. He’s very cuddly! As we all know the real Bowser is.

I’m super proud of the eyes and the inner mouth, since the pattern didn’t actually have instructions for either of those and just assumed you’d be using felt or something. I was all like, c’mon, I don’t have felt, I have yarn, let’s just start using yarn… I think they turned out okay!

this is by far the most complex piece I’ve done to date. There are sooooo many parts! I mean his head is basically a popcorn ball of spheres stuck together, and also he has SO MANY PIECES (teeth, nails, fingers, hair, spikes, EVERY SINGLE LITTLE STUD ON HIS STUPID BANDS GRRRRR). There was just so much sewing involved! I’m SO glad I got my hands on some curved tapestry needles, they’re a total game changer for this kind of thing.

I’m surprised he can stand up! There’s just yarn and fluff there, nothing sturdier than that, and he’s top-heavy. He’s not SUPER stable, but he CAN indeed stand up on his own, and I’m proud of that!

size 4 yarn, I thiiink a size D hook? (3.125 mm) either that or one step up, but this was like a month ago so honestly I’ve forgotten that particular detail, sorry.

Unpopular opinion but I'm eager to see the Mario Bros movie. Despite the supposed "Star power", pun intended, Chris has, I think he sounds pretty good for Mario's voice. And let's face it, hearing the happy voice of Mario's canon voice for about 2 hours would get both tiring and irritating. Taking into account Chris is no doubt following voice notes to sound like and to fit the character he's voicing. I'm used to hearing different interpretations of Mario's voice due to the amount of machinima's I've watched over the years.

As for his design, what did you expect? A copy-paste visage of the titular plumber? The voice and design are to help separate this Mario and friends from the video game canon.

So here's hoping for its success. Because with Nintendo buying their own animation team/company, they'll no doubt be making movies for the rest of their IP's.

What Mario is to Peach: Very humble and genuine. Non-judgmental. Princess Peach loves her Kingdom, but she can feel tired or overwhelmed sometimes. Mario's sweetness brings her down and reminds her that she's allowed to relax. From the start, he was willing to risk his life for a kingdom he didn't know about. He's brave, determined, and so good hearted. And it's clear that he's a comforting, warm presence to her. She loves spending time with him. He's fun and a light-hearted competitive, he's action-oriented, he's soothing.

What Bowser is to Peach: Exciting, risky. His benevolent iron fist ruling is... unique. They can hold political chats and rants for a long time. While at first, being kidnapped was a frightful, unwanted experience, Bowser's Keep is like a second home now. It took a long time, because Peach's Kingdom comes first, and Bowser's selfishness assured that she'd be repelled. There's more to Bowser than that, but the fact that he presented himself with lies, macho strength and no consideration clouded the ability to see that. In turn, Peach refused to see good in him, at first.

What Mario is to Bowser: Infuriating, that's what he was...at first. Bowser grew to hating everything about him. How his determination trumped his own strength, how tales spoke highly of Mario and how he easily defeated the Tyrant King. Bowser grew obsessed. No putter how much he shoves, Mario pushes back. Mario was the bane of his existence. Because obviously, that plumber was the only thing stopping his victories, right? His obsession slowly grew, and Mario stopped fearing him after some time. He wanted to learn about Mario to see what makes him tick, stumble, lose! He became possessive. Only he would defeat him. And when Mario started looking at him, and reaching out with kindness, that's when Bowser was really... confused. Which made him mad.

King Bowser Koopa's Character & Personality

Bowser is large, fire-breathing Koopa who leads the Koopa Troop, an evil kingdom of turtle-like creatures. He's a threatening and commanding villain who runs an army to invade and take over the Mushroom Kingdom. Bowser revels in causing disorder and intimidating his enemies. He's arrogant, selfish and resents having to ask nicely for help. Bowser is boastful when he's successful and focuses only on self-preservation when he fails. He cares about his castle and doesn't like having to damage it. Although he believes himself superior, Bowser can acknowledge his foes' tenacity in fierce battles or competitive events, even engaging in casual banter. While he's a respected leader of his troops, Bowser's usual brashness and short-temper can often lead him to not think things through or be willing to compromise. For all his pleasure in villainy, there are lines he won't cross. Bowser considers certain acts of distraction on kingdoms to be overkill. He would also never attempt to outright exterminate the Toads. In addition, Bowser can be quite amiable sometimes. Towards Bowser Jr., he's a loving father. Bowser has genuine affection and pride for his son. As such, he's protective of him when he's defeated in battle. Bowser's harsh and raging demeanor sometimes softens somewhat towards his loyal minions, being considerate of their well-being. In fact, he crashes events for friendly competitions to let him and his minions participate.

Christmas came early, guys. Seriously, look at how we've been blessed. This makes every bit of my Bowser-loving heart sing.

(Edit) It hurts so bad to look back on this. Something that looked like it was gonna be amazing, only to be a crushing disappointment. Turning Bowser from the fun and intimidating villain to a simpering incel is the biggest crime I've ever seen done to such an iconic character. Screw this movie.
