Psychogeography

Psychogeography is a body technique, born with the artistic avant-garde, that investigates urban space by walking through it. It is the exploration of urban environments that emphasizes interpersonal connections to places and arbitrary routes.

To make a detour, walk around without a destination or a timetable. Choose your route not according to what you know, but according to what you see around you. You have to be estranged and look at everything as if it were the first time. One way to facilitate this is to walk with a rhythmic pace and slightly upward gaze, so as to bring the architecture into the centre of the field of vision and leave the street level at the lower edge of the view. You have to perceive the space as a unified whole and let yourself be attracted by the details.

Architecture as a sense of space.

Architecture is the creation of spaces for humans. In learning architecture, one must not only learn to read and respond to a particular context, but also learn to practise the discipline in a specific way. It is a common belief that architecture expresses the zeitgeist and is the materialisation of a way of life. One could also think that the history of architecture itself arises from the confrontation of human beings with their opinions and values. Today, it is increasingly difficult to talk about common ideals that could provide the basis for an architectural language. This is why the question of how we can build today becomes crucial. Doing architecture today means first asking what architecture is as an autonomous discipline. In order for architecture to adequately fulfil its task of constructing space, questions must first be asked today. In creating spaces for human beings, the architect develops a sense for the space and a sense for its occupant. To produce meaning, a building should not be referential, but rather have universal significance.
