TO THE MOON

With their new album INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY, WATERPARKS are diving deeper than ever before. The result is an exorcism of deep trauma and the sweet afterglow of catharsis.

Between international flights, jet lag and no days off in between, it is a miracle that Awsten Knight isn’t face down in a pile of pillows. For the past two weeks, Knight and his band Waterparks have been head down in a run of massive shows throughout the U.K. supporting British rockers You Me At Six as well as a series of intimate appearances at record stores with some of the band’s most die-hard fans. It was a landmark run for a group who have hit the road relentlessly the past year-and-a-half, with sold-out North American and European headlining tours, a top slot at the 2022 Sad Summer Festival and even a “bucket list” opening slot for My Chemical Romance. Their latest milestone? They played to 10,000 people — their largest show in the U.K. region — at London’s historic Alexandra Palace. Exhaustion should be Knight's baseline, but instead, he's as chipper as ever when he hops on Zoom back home in Los Angeles. There's only one problem. The bandleader has been on vocal rest for days leading up to this very interview.

“Dude, my voice feels so shot,” Knight confesses from his living room couch. “We did 12 performances back to back, then combined with really short cut-up sleep on the flight, 1 just feel, ugh.” Sleep deprivation aside, Knight is almost at a loss for words (not from the vocal rest) but because the experimental pop trio he formed 12 years ago have unlocked another level of fandom where new listeners are still flocking by the droves. “It turns out there are a lot of people [in this world].” Knight quips, referring to his newfound fans. But in reality, global domination doesn’t really seem too far off.

Knight barely has time to slow down. The band are set to release their fifth studio album, INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY (out April 14 via Fueled By Ramen). But the self-professed workaholic has never known any other way. “It's a really hard mentality to shake,” Knight reveals. “When we were a local band, we didn't have any family connections in the music industry, and no one cared, so you had to take on every role. Even though we are not local anymore and get to play arenas with our favorite bands, if I'm not actively doing stuff to push the music, then I don’t know if anyone else will."

In some ways, Knight fears downtime or stillness because that's when he feels like his brain will start to turn on him. He admittedly functions better when he's working on something creative, whether that’s writing a new song or simply designing streetwear for his clothing brand hii-def. “It's not necessarily the most healthy thing in the long run, but people have worse coping mechanisms,” he laughs nervously.

But Waterparks remain his main focus. The trio, which initially formed in 2011, began to truly put the pieces together the following year when Knight enlisted his now-best friends, guitarist Geoff Wigington and drummer Otto Wood, to round out the lineup. “Otto loved classic rock and bands like La Dispute and Touché Amoré, whereas Geoff was all about EDM," Knight recalls. “We all had different tastes, but at the core of it, it's guitar and drums.” Their individual musical backgrounds helped craft the genre-less sound they have now cultivated.

It wasn't until 2016 when Waterparks finally released their debut album, Double Dare — an intentional choice. “I always felt like if no one was looking at us, why put out a large body of work? I wanted to do cool shit as opposed to oversaturating and waiting until enough people [actually] wanted to hear it.” There is a common adage that you have your entire life to write your first record and six months to write your second, to which Knight agrees, and from there, the band began making records like clockwork.

With those albums came carefully curated eras — a moment in time with a clear aesthetic, theme and overall mission statement. While always writing music from a subversive and experimental perspective, it was when the band released both FANDOM (2019) and Greatest Hits (2021) that they began to stray from the confinement of genre and inaccurate labels. Knight himself spoke out vehemently about being boxed in by the term “pop punk. “I learned [during that time that] you can’t control everybody, and you can only frame the narrative so much,” Knight explains. “Obviously, we grew up loving and still loving blink-182, Green Day, Sum 41 and Good Charlotte, so it’s in our DNA to a degree, but I just don't want that label because it’s so synonymous with the past and what cynical dickheads or mega naysayers say is just for preteens and kids. However, the biggest reason I didn’t want that label is that I know [exactly] what we are capable of and what our output is.”

Take, for example, the breakbeat madness of the FANDOM single “Turbulent” or the distorted experimentation of “Numb” from Greatest Hits. Nothing is off the table for Waterparks. The group join a cohort of other trailblazing acts like Bring Me the Horizon and Paramore, who both successfully pivoted away from the late Warped Tour circuit in favor of mainstream appeal without losing any substance. “There's a song for everybody, and I once tweeted that anyone who doesn't like Waterparks just doesn't like Waterparks yet,” Knight says confidently.

If you have yet to be on board with the band's music, you've at the very least been entertained by — or seen — Knight's fiery social media presence.

It's undeniable that Waterparks’ meteoric rise has stemmed from the bandleader’s unofficial side hustle as a social media celebrity. And at times, his online presence can feel truly monolithic in scale, something Knight has attempted to analyze over the years in many songs, including the aptly titled “You'd Be Paranoid Too (If Everyone Was Out To Get You)" When asked if his status as an extremely online figure has influenced the band’s latest album, INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY, Knight isn't entirely sure but reveals that he has had to set boundaries nonetheless, as someone who's regularly met with constant praise and vicious internet trolls. “I try not to let it influence things too much [lately], and with therapy, I've learned that you can only control yourself. However, that doesn’t mean I'm not still vulnerable in the music that I write.”

He tackles the subject on INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY with closer "A NIGHT OUT ON EARTH" and parts of the song “RITUAL,” where he recalls when he felt things were “caving in" around him due to the pressures of constant attention. “There are people who listen to Waterparks who aren't on Twitter. and then there are those who view the band in this bubble where it's just them and the people who reply to the tweets,” Knight resigns.

But beyond the topic of social media, Knight gets admittedly “introspective” on the record. When asked to discuss the overall lyrical themes and concepts behind INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY, he takes a deep breath and delivers a warning: Things might get a little turbulent.

“There is a love story throughout the record that is expressive to and for other people, but the album itself has to do with overcoming, unlearning and growing past religious guilt,” Knight explains. “It's something that I've struggled with for a long time.” On “FUNERAL GREY," he delivers the punchy line “baptized in my spit,” which is a playful twist on a weighted subject. The theme of religious guilt doesn’t just apply to the overall lyrics of the record but also extends to the album's striking cover art, which at first glance appears to be an image of a blue frog over a red backdrop; in actuality, it possesses a much more poignant meaning.

“Frogs have always been one of my favorite animals,” Knight reflects. “However, when I learned that frogs were seen as dirty and unclean in a biblical context, it was interesting to me that something that I saw as so good, natural and beautiful could also be seen as a bad thing through a biblical lens.” In other words, the concept of shame plagued the charismatic bandleader for as long as he can remember, and INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY was the moment for Knight to finally face his trauma head-on and “come to terms with himself” once and for all. That explains why a majority of the new songs possess “hypersexualized” energy — a conscious rebellion against a conservative past. “Growing up in church, you're taught that everything is so wrong and bad. I always felt like shit, so [this album] is the breakaway from that specifically.”

By overcoming his religious guilt, Knight was able to tap into an evolved sense of self-worth that he’s since applied to his very own love life, which he details on the album's stripped-down ballad “CLOSER.” “My concept of love has changed throughout the years, and that song is about [looking at the past] and realizing that when I was younger, it was maybe more of an obsession. Now I'm taking it apart and learning more about love and the way I present the current version of myself to other people.” Inversely, there is the alt-radio-ready anthem “BRAINWASHED,” where Knight admits that he still wrestles with the idea of true love, constantly making sure that he’s not just wrapped up in the “honeymoon phase.” Knight jokes that this track and “FUCK ABOUT IT” which features a guest vocal spot from blackbear, are “polar opposites,” as the latter couldn't be further from the “hyperfixation” he details in “BRAINWASHED.," once again proving that he feels the most comfortable when inserting juxtaposition wherever he can.

Beyond the emotional clarity that Knight gained during the creation of INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY, it's the album's sonic risks and exploration that he is the most fired up about. Though Knight wanted the band to return to their more guitar-driven and organic roots for certain parts of the LP, much of the record ventures into eclectic territory, with hyperpop, trap, synthwave and even subtle elements of hard rock and nu metal. “RITUAL, ‘A NIGHT OUT ON EARTH, ‘REAL SUPER DARK’ and ‘ST*RFUCKER' are the craziest instrumentals we have done ever,” Knight exclaims. “I love the idea of taking something like a guitar or my voice and making it sound entirely like something else” “A NIGHT OUT ON EARTH,” however, is what Knight describes as “the biggest production flex,” and it most definitely shows. “There's fucking elephant sounds in there and weird Batman villain-sounding horns — it's evil and heavy, and not to mention, the outro is just game over,” he says.

Beyond production, Knight pushes his voice and stretches the idea of what constitutes a strong hook on INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY. With “END OF THE WATER (FEEL),” Knight is at his most “bombastic,” in a “cartoon-like” state, weaving falsetto melodies that are meant to shock. “I always make a mental note when I hear a song that makes me go…" He pauses, imitating an explosion. “For me, that's when I hear some high-ass vocals that I'm not expecting.” Even on the first day of demoing “END OF THE WATER (FEEL)” in his home studio, Knight was already so confident in the song that he called longtime producer and collaborator Zakk Cervini and “essentially” forced him to come over to his house right then to help finish it. “I also want the record to show that I had a mustache [during this time], too,” Knight laughs.

With collaboration on the brain, Knight is the first to admit that for many years, he was precious about his art and was hesitant to work with others. However, during the COVID-19 pandemic and quarantine, Knight changed his mind, which was evident on Waterparks’ previous album, Greatest Hits. This time around, Knight, who's an outspoken fan of the U.K. boy band One Direction, finally got a chance to live out one of his dreams by working with esteemed songwriter Julian Bunetta, who co-wrote beloved One Direction classics like “Olivia,” “Infinity” and “Best Song Ever,” among others. “I flew to [Julian's] place in Nashville, and we ended up making five songs together, two of them being ‘FUNERAL GREY" and ‘BRAINWASHED,” Knight recalls. And while he still plans to keep the majority of his music close to his chest long term, he won't rule anything out. Knight would undoubtedly jump at the chance to work with everyone from Post Malone and Damon Albarn to Donald Glover and Toby Keith.

Now, with the band's new LP incoming, there raises the question: Does Knight feel a sense of relief after both exorcising his deepest traumas and inviting listeners on his journey to self- discovery? "I still feel pressure with it," Knight concedes. “It would be a lot easier if only strangers heard this, but everyone in my whole fucking life is going to hear this album, so that's what makes it strange." But he's never let any awkwardness or controversy hinder the artistic output. "I wasn't not in trouble when I put out a song like [2018's] 'TANTRUM' where I listed a bunch of dudes I wanted to kill, calling out by name," Knight acknowledges. Though his lyrical choices have sometimes resulted in strong reactions, even within his close circle of friends, Knight can't help but accept that he is meant to be unapologetic. "At the end of the day, I'd rather make the coolest fucking thing, rather than hold back and make something that wasn't that good."

Pressures of lyrical vulnerability and transparency aside, INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY is Knight's attempt to "normalize” the catharsis he finds within songwriting, which ties into the album title itself. "Intellectual property is the mental space you give to something in your head. The 'property' may be the thing that you are struggling with. By materializing it and giving it its own world, it's actually a great way to express it and then, eventually, expel it,” he explains. "I want this album to go to the fucking moon." ALT

commission for @theoneandonlyduskstrike's Nocturne being comfortably held by Luna

I LOVE DRAWING OTHER PEOPLE'S OC WITH THEIR FAVORITE FICTIONAL CHARACTERS IT RULES (bonus doddle):

with this being dusk's third commission, I tried doing my warmup sketch of nocturne entirely by memory, there's some off details but dusk said I got her down pat, yay!

and then we get to Luna, now I could've made dusk hold a tiny silly bean Luna akin to how I drew ponies before (twiparkle :>) but yea no the idea was def to have something looking more like the character

I did a sketch of Luna that looked as close to the show design as I could make, one bit that I really got stuck on was the face, something was off and I couldn't figure out what

I kept touching up the snout think that was the problem but then realized, it was the eyes, I initially drew them like I would with any other snooty animal, when they should've taken nearly the entire face

it looks silly but the details are all there, and now with a better understanding of the design and the *MLP style as a whole), I can start putting my own spin on things

wanted to give a liiiiiitle bit of that nightmare moon vibe to the design, a little more cat-adjacent

now we get to the fun part!

after the first draft, I asked dusk for any ideas for how the two interact, they suggested Noct hugging from behind Luna's neck, but also said they like having Luna holding them, cause usually they are the one hugging her (they have a plushie)

ok so now the composition must involve a big Luna that hugs you, that is the only option given this information

I got a pose I was happy with quickly after, but redid it a few more times until I got a ideal size difference

once I had put the colors down, I realized my luna design wasn't that different from the canon model, so I made a alternative version with the extra dark spots removed

it also makes the remaining dark spot on the cutie mark darker since I don't have to worry about the lineart detail getting lost

dusk liked the extra spots more though so that became the one used at the top

Getting my nails done rn so it’s my inspo the lady doing my nails is so pretty 😫

What manicure I would give the demon brothers

Lucifer: I would leave his nails at their current length, which is probably short and very clean since he’s probably very well groomed, and give him French tips! Idk it just feels very him,, it’s simple and clean. He also probably wouldn’t want to wait for it to dry and want it to last so def gel

Mammon: He definitely has long nails so I would shape them into squares. I’m giving him a set of acrylics because he only deserves the best and it’s a little stereotypical but I’d give him a glittery gold or yellow with different black designs. Those mostly black nails with a thin strip of a different color are my favorites

Levi: He would probably be embarrassed so basic polish for him, whatever length he has is good because he also seems like he would be scared of fake nails. I would probably give him a baby blue and then spray it with the quick dry spray so he can be in and out as quick as possible

Satan: Nothing too long otherwise it might interfere with reading but nothing too short because long nails are the best for giving pets scratches! Also nothing too sharp because they rip paper (I speak from experience). I would give him squoval shape, gel nails with very dark green cat eyes. I used to be obsessed with cat eyes when I was younger and they look best in dark green or black so it’s meant to be

Asmo: His nails would be so fun to do! Nail extensions all the way and he would definitely agree to lipstick shape. He’s also very conscious about his self care though, so I would give him dip since it’s much better for your nails than the other methods. I saw this gorgeous set of lilac and beige nails with this satin finish and thought of him, so definitely that. Definitely embellishments in a color like silver or gray.

Beel: Let’s be so fucking fr rn he would not care whatsoever as long as they don’t get in the way of working out. He’s giving dark orange though so dark orange it is. Gel is the most practical so I’d give him that too

Belphie: He also would not care and you could probably spend forever doing them because he would be asleep then entire time. I would give him dip too because it’s easiest to work with and would therefore be easiest on a sleeping person. I would give him a dark midnight blue color with silver sparkles as a top coat, and maybe even add a little moon embellishment on one of the nails

so i like symmetry, comes with my virgo moon ass, so i try to have pairs on both sides of my arms. one is a lonely single, because tattoos can get expensive

inside forearms below inner elbow facing out, a serene medusa and a dancing fanned out flower, with the green match

right below my inner elbows, facing in, a dream catcher that's also a wise owl (since i found out my birthdate is called 'day of the dreamcatcher') and a garlic flower for my love of garlic in food lolol

Viro vs. True Leo:

Help me Finalize my Trollsona's Blood Color

So, a while back I did a ton of tests to pick my Aspect, and my Moon, this includes the Extended Zodiac one, as well as a few others the fandom may remember.

When it came to picking a sign however, I settled on Jade, though my choices at the time were Leo (my birth sign) Virgo (my rising sign/a sign in a lot of places in my star chart) and a few others.

Now like, half way through designing my trollsona I have decided to see what blood to settle on.

Both are consistent with my Moon and my God tier. Heart bound, and Derse. So here is the Poll and my reasons for being torn between the two:

Why I am considering Leo:

Its my birth sign!

Nepeta!

I love cats and Lions and I have always liked my birth sign.

Even if Egbert was the character i related to most in Homestuck, Nep was my second most related to. I'm a hopeless romantic shipper with a love for puns and going :3. I'm also autistic and tow the line between ppl think i'm soft and ppl thinking i'm a badass (though if i'm honest i'm soft, but nep IS a badass.)

I could share signs with, and there fore designs aspects, with the Leijons.

Friends say i remind them a lot of the little feral cat troll.

Olive is very under rated, It's def one if not the least popular blood color imo.

It's a green and green is my favorite color.

Why I am considering Viro:

Friends also say i'm comforting and bring a maternal presence to things. Also that i worry a lot, and i tend to avoid conflict. Its very 'kanaya.'

I like jadebloods! its a pretty blood color! It's also a green and green is my favorite color.

Virgo is in a lot of places on my star chart, the most actually, followed by Capricorn and Cancer.

Vampires are cool.

Because of my autism sometimes I see things as a bit too literal, but i'm also incredibly funny.

hii i was wondering if you have any recs for fragrance companies free of animal ingredients & not tested on animals? no worries if not of course! 🌷

helloooooooo lovely unfortunately the perfume world is one that is kindof difficult to navigate if you are trying to keep quote unqote ‘clean’and cruelty free :/ it just is what it is…theres a lot of chemicals involved obviously and oftentimes naturals etc etc especially the more high end and niche you get its just an unfortunate truth esp given perfumery and its history. that being said there are def some companies out there keeping their brands cruelty free and without animal ingredients i think for the most part?? i found this list here pretty informative although its noticeably missing anything more niche

most notably i see arquiste caswell-malley(really want to try some stuff from them) le labo ds & durga penhaligons and lush obviously lol.. so a fairly good selection i think! theres others there too but those are my favorites from the list. if you want something really niche not listed here ministry of scent has a nifty little section on their website of all natural/cruelty free fragrances! quite a variety there as well. theres tauer and hiram green both lovely houses i especially love moon bloom if you like a sexy expensive tuberose

RWBY ReWatch Notes:

Is it weird that I think early RWBY is gorgeous in it’s own way? Maybe the version I’m watching now is a higher def than when I first watched, but all I can think is “Damn this looks good.”

Also still just in awe and admiring just how much they were able to accomplish with their budget. They clearly knew what to focus on just to get the point across.

Just now realizing in the trailers all four girls have a slow-mo moment in front of the moon (or a round light that looks like the moon).

I hate Adam so much but fuck, I love his design. Everything about it is just *chefs kiss* to me. Tall (he’s 6′ 4″ ???), red and black, masked, wields a katana, legs for days. Damn, I hate him so much.

Yang’s trailer starts with a shot of her ass that I somehow missed all these times I’ve watched it. Oh, and Raven’s there!

Yeah, Yang’s trailer remains my favorite. The fight is awesome, the build-up of going through the previous girls’ trailer songs to Yang’s, the fact the Yang shows a lot more personality in her trailer.

God I miss Roman. I just bought Roman Holiday, but I think I’ll wait to read it after I finally catch up. whenever that is

I need to get this out now or it will consume me the whole time: JAUNE IS SO CUTEEE!!! I love him <3

Ruby and Yang are also adorable. “Gold” is the end song for the third episode and it plays just as I was thinking how cute their relationship is.

Love how immediately into Jaune Pyrrha is. Even when he’s at his worse (’Snow angel’? bleh) she only sees the best in him. ❤

Oh wow, you can hear the sound of Pyrrha’s magnetism even this early. That’s a neat detail I overlooked.

“Your team will be with you all 4 years at Beacon, so make sure it’s someone you work well with. But also, it's gonna be the first person you see when you land, so fuck you I guess.”

The landing strategies show a fun bit of character in how each person slows their descent before landing. Ruby discharges several rounds from her high powered rifle to disrupt her momentum, Weiss elegantly uses her semblance to create small landing pads, Yang propels herself forward and upwards, and Pyrrha plows through several trees.

Do you think when Pyrrha landed that she was looking specifically for Jaune to make sure he didn’t die, or was that a lucky coincidence?

We didn’t see Nora’s landing, which is a little disappointing. I’m sure that girl created a crater wherever she landed.

That little moment between Jaune and Pyrrha at the tree ಥ_ಥ They’re so cute together!

“You could just say no.” God, I love Yang.

Oh! Jaune’s aura immediately heals him. I guess that was the hint to what his semblance always was.

Ren’s little smile when Nora boops him. And Nora’s little blep. <3

“I’m not perfect. Not yet. But I’m still leagues better than you.” Oof, Weiss was so mean, but so good with the comebacks.

I love that Pyrrha was so confident in Jaune’s leadership capabilities that she followed him into a cave that was clearly marked to have a large and dangerous Grimm inside. That’s true love right there.

Players and Pieces is, objectively, the best episode of Volume 1. It’s the absolute funniest with great hits like “Great, the gang’s all here. I love how much Jaune just falls over in that fight sequence. Boy just cannot stay on his feet.

The Badge and The Burden doesn’t have much going on, but it is a nice bit of character development for both Ruby and Weiss. I appreciate that even though Weiss is clearly in the wrong, the show doesn’t take Ruby’s side completely. She still has to put in the work to be a good leader, and that does require her to act a little more mature and take things a little more seriously.

Also Ozpin’s line “I’ve made more mistakes than any man, woman and child on this planet.” remains one of my favorite lines from him.

Look, I adore Jaune, but Jaundice and Foreverfall are definitely some of the weaker episodes. Not many jokes and a pretty predictable storyline. Still, I love every moment with Jaune. And the little tune that plays whenever Jaune and Pyrrha have a moment together makes me tear up now.

Oof, I forgot how... clumsily the whole Faunus/White Fang plot is handled in the beginning. It was kind of hard to watch the main heroes sit back and watch Velvet be bullied by Cardin, but Weiss calling the Faunus liars, cheats, and thieves and Yang’s response being “That’s not necessarily true.” kind of burns me up still. It’s not true at all! I don’t care all that much with Weiss, because she is supposed to learn a lesson at the end, and have a change of character. But Ruby and Yang are just... there. Letting it happen. I know it’s an incredibly nuanced issue, and I’m not expecting a show like RWBY to tackle racism-- systemic or otherwise-- with finesse. But it definitely feels like, throughout the first several seasons especially, that the racism the Faunus face is an afterthought. Even when it’s at the forefront.

Also, why the hell did Sun stowaway on a different ship when his school was heading to Vale anyway, lmao. He just wanted to get there first, I guess.

The walk cycles are kind of rough and it makes Blake storming away from Weiss kind of funny.

OOF. Rewatching Weiss’ defense of her racism is so HARD to sit through now, knowing who her father is and the fact that he was literally branding Faunus as property. Like, character-wise, there’s nothing wrong with what she said. I don’t know at this point how much Weiss knew about how her Father was treating the Faunus that worked in SDC, and of course a child will try to logic out things in a way that excuses their family members. ��Dad isn’t a bad guy, the White Fang just make him so angry that he acts this way.” I get that. I do. And it’s not fair that Weiss had to live like that. But knowing what I do now, that moment just leaves a sour taste in my mouth.

I just... alright, I don’t want to talk about the Faunus stuff anymore. After recent world events, the handling of racism-- even in a fantasy story-- is far too exhausting.

Thank god Penny is here to make this whole ordeal better.

Actually, I’m not done, I want to comment on Ruby and Yang in this situation. There’s conflict in the group because Blake admits to having been part of the White Fang. Weiss is, of course, going to have a bad reaction, and I don’t see a need for Ruby or Yang to defend Blake against her because the White Fang is a terrorist group. What I have an issue with is that while Weiss’ ire is mostly aimed at the White Fang, she does keep being a general racist. Things like calling Sun a ‘filthy Faunus’ and saying that he’ll probably end up in the White Fang too. So I have an issue with Ruby and Yang not really getting on Weiss’ case about that, and treating her with distaste for at least that aspect. It almost makes the story feel like Weiss’ comments and actions are defensible, and they are not. And that this situation is treated as more of a spat or disagreement between friends, and not the byproduct of Weiss’ bigotry.

Ugh, I don’t know, my thoughts are all over the place with this one, and I’m sure someone much smarter than me has already explained it in a better way. So that’s enough.

I went back to reread my liveblog, and my liveblog in the beginning of RWBY was pretty bare compared to how I do it now. I was definitely still feeling out how I wanted to do this. But I barely commented on this shit in Black and White and I can’t remember if I truly just didn’t see it then or if I just didn’t want to rock the boat with negative opinions.

I’m more comfortable being openly critical nowadays, but I think in the beginning I didn’t want to risk upsetting the fans.

Anyway, overall volume 1 is fun and years later I’m still impressed at the story they were able to tell with the resources they had available to them. c:

Anyhoo I'm in a mood for scales, so I hereby select Repton and Sir Pentious for the games! Oh God this got long

Repton:

R - Rainbow - what colors do you associate with them and why?

It's always deep olive greens and harsh dusty yellows for Repton, his colour scheme is pretty consistent and pretty much matches his territory. I find it very soothing almost? Like watching a savanna landscape, which is technically where he lives so, win.

E - Emotion - is your f/o open with their feelings or do they keep them close to their chest?

If it ain't rage or exasperation then he ain't showing it. He absolutely feels a wider range but frustration at his limitations rules his judgement 99% of the time, which is a work in progress. Makes those rare time's he is openly happy that much more delightful!

P - Pets - do they have a pet? if so, what kind and what is/would be its name? would you have a pet together?

Canonly, no, but I've always figured the wastelands around his terra would hold some kind of cool monster that he would take delight in taming, so in my head he has pet dragons. Not big ones, but if Gwythents were more bat like that'd be ideal. Atmos is criminally underdeveloped ok I can make up animals if I WANT

T - Teach - what skills of theirs would they teach you? what would you teach them?

I have an aversion to motorsports but you literally cannot get around atmos without a sickass flying motorbike, so I would def be accepting dirk-biking lessons from the guy with the coolest ride around.

As for what I'd teach him... I'm honestly not sure what I have to offer that he would find interesting or useful, but I can offer lots of geology/geography knowledge that would probably be handy for raids and crystal formations? Alternatively how to speak nicely to his siblings

O - Online - what is your f/o’s social media presence like, or what would it be like if they had internet in their world/era?

'Officially' he wouldn't partake, seeing the dumb shit his brothers watch online would drive him insane. Unofficially however, he would totally stalk his enemies facebook posts just to plan an opportune ambush.

N - Nostalgia - what’s your f/o’s favorite memory?

Canonically, probably the day he defeated the Interceptors. That was a serious victory that shook the Sky Knights and their teams across Atmos, and he relished in the leverage it gave him.

Sir Pentious:

S - Story - if you and them were in a fairytale, which story would you be and who would play which character?

Oh a reverse fairytale for sure, a runaway noble of some descript get's kidnapped by maniacal (artificer I guess in this case?) for ransom, only to find they're both terrible and have much more fun encouraging his shenanigans.

I - Image - show us a picture of them that gives you a lot of feelings. if they aren’t a visual character, describe your mental image of them!

Black, Yellow and Fusia. Pretty self explanatory - the high contrast is gorgeous and luxurious in his design and yet attention seeking like a particularly villainous traffic cone.

P - Pets - do they have a pet? if so, what kind and what is/would be its name? would you have a pet together?

Do the Eggs Count Idk if you can have snake pets in hell but he is absolutely the type to have boa contractors and cobras draped all over his ship. I'm more than happy with this.

E - Emotion - is your f/o open with their feelings or do they keep them close to their chest?

Sweetheart this mans emotions are broadcast to the fucking moon. Everyone in hell knows how he's feeling at any given moment and he hates it, but he doesn't have the restraint to keep a lid on them when things don't go his way.

N - Nostalgia - what’s your f/o’s favorite memory?

Extrapolating from the crumbs of the single pilot we have, probably the birth of his son. He seems the type to have Gomez Addam'sed the shit out of his family, and I don't doubt he cried more than the mother and baby combined.

T - Teach - what skills of theirs would they teach you? what would you teach them?

I'm signing up for lessons in firing lazer beams and rockets and you cannot stop me. I would probably teach him what modern slang and style suits him becuase the secondhand embarrasment I recieve watching this 19th century supervillain attempt to integrate into modern culture is nigh lethal.

It's cringeworthy and mortifying for want of better words. I wish he would stop chasing the overlords accounts and getting into screaming matches in the comment sections. At least the latter results in him blowing up someones house occasionally, but it hurts to see him ruin his own reputation which he cherishes so much. Less of more here, really.

U - Uplift - how do they help you when you’re stressed or sad and vice versa?

When I'm sad it's cuddle time. He's fantastic at it, and his scales are much softer than they look. It's weird to feel his eyes blinking, but the pressure and attention feel wonderful after a bad day.

When he's sad or frustrated - I'll admit that I'm not the best at feelings things and would much rather offer practical solutions, he appreciates a second pair of eyes and opinions on his projects. I can compliment his engineering no end and belittle the bastards that made him feel workthless forever, so if I bitch whle we work it's a win-win.

5. Best minor character?

-oh boy, I ONLY like minor characters for the most part and there’s so many good ones to choose from. The character design and abilities are so interesting in this series but if I had to narrow it down I would say Impostor Captain Tennille, Steely Dan, and Mario Zucchero. I really like their character designs and their stand abilities, and being minor one off villains they’re mystic and potential make them much more interesting.

7. Favorite stand design? Least favorite stand design?

-favorite design is between dark blue moon (really like the head shape) and Grateful Dead (love everything about it). The more unique or fucked up a stand looks the better. On the other hand, I hate stands that are Just Some Guy or just kinda dumb/silly looking. Heavens Door is by far my least favorite, though killer Queen is also a close second. Idk they’re just kinda lame.

18. Funniest moment or fav meme?

Part five had some of the funniest cut aways. I’m also a big fan of torture dance despite being a zucchero fan (the few that like him understandably dislike that part, I still think the entire scene is insane and I love it.) of course I think the classic Dio And Jotaro Walking Towards Each Other is a hit.

19. Creepiest moment/ stand/ character?

-OH BOY!!! My favorite thing about jjba is the minor horror elements they throw in. I wish they did it more often but it’s rarity is part of what makes it more memorable. Moment wise it’s a bit of a cross between Santana crawling inside of Stroheims leg wound and the entirety of the La squadras introduction (especially in comparison with the bucci gangs intro, it’s shot so differently.) I haven’t gotten around to part six yet but I heard they really amped up the body horror though the censored a lot in the anime adaption (fucking pussies.) i don’t really have a stand I can’t pinpoint as being the *creepiest* (whichever one killed zucchero in phf is def up there). Character wise is the same (none of them are really *scary* per say).

-never played any of them to be honest. None of them seemed that interesting and even then I try to not spoil parts I haven’t seen so I never took the risk.

Ok black white and blood #4 thoughts as I read, spoilers beneath cut.

Story 1, Good Morning:

It feels like the writing is trying to b deep ab how the game is played and what it is but it reads v clunky n repetitive

There r Xs yeah I get it

Did like the bit where he fights the avengers too, the way friends twist to enemies

The last bit w each of the other alters n Marlene rlly just made me reframe all of this from the perspective of Moon Knight as a separate alter and that… does make me like it more

Like looking at him as the one truly stuck in the cycle of battle for Khonshu over n over n over n over and that’s all he knows and he’s just fighting to survive even against other parts? Def made me like the story in the end

Story 2, The Scent of Blood:

Love the smoke effects and the way scenes melt into each other

ALSO right off the bat love the more retro style, esp w the costume design

Mmmmm perfume n blood is such a fun aesthetic

I do like Marc fighting back because he’s familiar with having a god in his head however…

As w a lot of BWnB stories there feels like there’s a missing page or two with context that gets taken out. Either that or I just can’t read but truly at least one is really confusing each issue to me.

Like I was on board until the end. Why did Marc cut himself to win? Why did that hurt Shemsu too? I like the first half n the last bit but it feels like something was skipped and makes it anticlimactic feeling in the end

Story 3, Born To Be:

Cat!!!

Love this style the most out of the three, easy to read and what’s happening is well colored w the color limit so it doesn’t get lost

Guy in the back of the cab was CREEPY

I think this one was my favorite, just like short and simple and didn’t try to stretch out of its boundaries. A bit creepy a bit weird but not confusing, just like the twists of dreams. It was really quiet. Also again, best BWnB art so far I think, so many past ones have been hard to track when they don’t work on differentiating the background with the monochrome. Good stuff!

Overall I think this issue was my fav so far just bc it didn’t have any stories that I hated. They were either like “eh but I like it” or “good” which is better than some of the downright “what the fuck” of previous ones. Vibes!

yes! i have an ombre sunburst on my left forearm, inspired by the lyric "for every failing sun, there's a morning after." i don't like the "uwu soft lovey" positivity as it always feels fake to me, but this feels more realistic and is a reminder that even if it passes like a kidney stone, this shit will pass too. which tends to be my perspective on things. i also have a desert scene on my right shoulder, inspired by both the lyric "as snow falls on desert skies," which i have loved since the first time i heard it, and also an homage to the fact that i grew up in the southwest and even if i didn't live in the desert, the times i got to stay out there were some of my favorite childhood memories. the desert means a lot to me. ( even though i much prefer cold weather. )

oh def. my mother always draws the same type of flower every time she draws one, so even if i have a really complicated relationship with her, i want that flower because i love her anyway and i will always be my mother's daughter. i've also been working on designing a fandom tattoo that you can't tell is a fandom tattoo, because i am allergic to obvious things. it has a sort of moon-forest-witchy-plant-huntress vibe ( which is also just...a vibe i really enjoy ) and i am so excited to refine it and eventually get it done. i've designed all my tattoos but this is the one i've put the most effort into!

📺 — favorite movie(s) and/or tv show(s)?

i don't really watch a lot of movies? but i like derry girls because it's fucking hilarious and always makes me laugh when i need to cheer up. i also like hotel del luna which is a great korean drama, 20/10 would recommend. and ofc there's the great british bake off which is just my comfort show. it always puts me in a great mood.

🎁 — what have you accomplished in the rpc that you’re proud of?

i've made some friends, become a better writer, had a lot of fun, found some new shows / games -- all the good things! and that's all that matters in the end. the rpc is a transient thing by nature, people come and go all the time for whatever reason, but i think that's also helped me be okay with transience in my offline life too.

Okay! So! I know Ive been sitting on this forever im sorry it took so long to actually write this out!!!

So, That's what my handwriting looks like, therefore its Aero's cause I say so. I def see Aero being the type to handwrite stuff, they have a diary I think, because c'mon, early 2010s. Well it's less so a diary than a rambling of thoughts, lots of weed opinions and research notes when they feel like it. The notebooks were most likely bought from like, a store like walmart/target in like, a 3 or 5 pack, maybe some like rainbow designs, or you know what, Lisa Frank probably. The pen is probably a nice, smooth gel pen, also probably bought in a pack of bright colors. They aren't one to color code however, too much to keep track of. Lastly, that's their signature for like, if someone were to ask them to write it nice or on a card for someone, but if it was like, idk to sign a check or receipt its a scribble, you know.

general stuff: i fucking hate stadiums lads!!!!!!! like i thought maybe when i’m there and experiencing it it won’t be THAT bad but god i fucking hated it lmao also now that we've seen the arena shows i'm just extra jealous of it bc not only is it more intimate and therefore better, they're also getting medicine tf!!!! the stadiums were just way too big and i felt disconnected, it was fucking bright out the whole time bc it’s the northern hemisphere and that totally killed the vibe, and he didn’t make use of the stadium in any shape or form so what was the point!!!!!!!! no pyro, no confetti, no real set/stage design, no surprises, minimal lights stuff - they didn’t even try 😩 bro it’s so crazy bc a female artist would NEVEEEEERRRR dare to put on a “show” like this, like dula peep had 5 outfit changed and ppl on skates and sm technical stuff, it’s insane what he’s getting away with. the fans 10000% make the show, like the vibe during upbeat songs was immaculate and THAT’S what made it fun, also the girlies in hamburg did a rainbow fan project so THEY put in more effort than his team lmao re: setlist...well fucking disappointing we signed up for fine line tour and got harry's house innit, the only songs i really enjoyed from hs3 were satellite for sure, cinema bc he did some note changes, lnt was fun, LEAVE AMERICA was the highlight of the show tbh, loved that he just let us yell it at him in dublin<3 but man sunflower and fine line should've AT LEAST made the cut, don't get why canyon moon is on it but title track isn’t??? also fucking WHACK that he’s adding medicine to the arena shows and didn’t do shit for stadium shows lol . wmyb is never allowed to leave the setlist bc ppl go off the MOST to it every time and one of the best moments at both shows was bse on the pre-show playlist for sure. also me as everyone who left during boyfriends, that was so funny to watch from above at the hamburg show

dublin: so we had kitchen tickets and we got there pretty late like 7.30ish which was totally fine imo, we had loads of space in the center back, however fucking annoying that ppl were following him around whenever he was circling us, like pushing and shoving etc. we did also mostly see his ass, like he didn’t really turn around towards kitchen when he was in the back. i mentioned this before but even tho kitchen pit were basically the best tickets to have, i still missed SO many moments (like with the niall face) bc ur still so disconnected in there since it’s a fucking stadium, like it’s HUGE 😩 the fan interactions were very boring too, like i’m BEGGING him to stop singing hbd at shows!!!! 99% of the time it’s not even their birthday, like WHAT’S the point, and there were sooo many better signs that would’ve made the show more unique but that’s what he decided to go for 😐 that was the first time i traveled for a show as well which was SO exhausting and i kept thinking "and harry's just taking his private jet and getting driven around rn”, like the gap between our experiences was getting too real to me 😭 usually i'm SO happy and obsessed with the artist after watching them live, i rmr how over the moon i was after harry's show in 2018, but this time i was kinda just neutral about it? like i was deadass thinking “do i really need to see this show twice" 💀 i'm happy i saw my bestie tah again and exploring dublin was great (love ireland, love irish ppl) but that might’ve been my least favorite concert i’ve been to

hamburg: we had like mid tier seats (basically where niall was sitting at wembley) and it def gave a different perspective to the show, like i couldn’t see the spotlights that changed colors etc at the side of the stage in dublin and u def had a better overview from above, like in pit it was kinda annoying to follow him around, but he was TINYYYYYYYY, def had to watch the big screens a lot which i didn’t do at all in dublin. the fan interactions were def better and he did a lot more than in dublin which has suchhh an impact on his shows tbh bc that’s what he’s really good at - but again nothing we haven’t seen before (gender reveal and coming out, also counting in german). i went with my friend who's way more neutral so i wanted to know her opinion on his show and she also said there was def smth missing from it (like show aspect) and the fact that it was still bright out annoyed her too 😩 there was a guy playing 1d/harry songs on his guitar outside the stadium after the show and SO many of us just stayed there and did a sing along which was probably my fave part of the whole show (fuck all the larry bs at this show tho)

ANYWAY TL;DR: i fucking hate stadiums, his setlist sucks ass, i’m fucking UPSET that he changed BOTH OF MY SHOWS to stadium shows and that all the other shows in germany got medicine while he didn’t do SHIT for the stadium shows which should’ve gotten at least some special treatment after he fucked us over and kept our money for two years just to make us buy tickets AGAIN, he needs to fire his entire team especially harry L and molly, justice for daydream
