So you know Helen, Cabby's wife from The Magician's nephew? I was rereading the book and it struck me how weird it must have been for her, like one random Tuesday you're doing laundry by hand in your tiny, draughty, smelly London living space and the next you find yourself in a sunny meadow with a very large Lion announcing you and your husband will presently be crowned royalty of this here fairytale kingdom. Oh and your husband's hansom horse can not only talk now, he's given frickin wings and can fly.

I mean it's not like Polly and Digory hadn't had a wild day(s) - the Narnian timeline again- and whatever they've been through is way more in comparison to just being yoinked to a really nice woodland kingdom and be the ruler there now. It seems as if I take Polly and Digory a bit for granted in the scale of things, but still, as a kid you're probably gonna take magical adventures like that a bit easier than someone like Frank and Helen who had was harsh and tough lives that let little room for fancies. To them this scenario must have been beyond anything they've ever imagined.

And honestly good for them, I'd hardly imagine a better first King and Queen of Narnia than someone who had daily struggles and chose to remain a good, kind and decent person in the face of those struggles.

I’ve started reading The Chronicles of Narnia so i feel like i should write a little book report after reading each book. Might be nice to look back on these and remember how i felt reading them and what i was surprised to learn. Just for reference on what i know before reading these, i’ve watched all the movies and loved them (especially the first two) and heard a bit about the books through some tumblr posts.

My obsession with designing characters specifically for voyage of the dawn treader is definitely because of my deep history of beef with the 2010 movie.

Anyone who knew me in middle school was in danger of ranting about that movie. (Wtf was the green mist also awkward writing in general. Visually the movie looked alright though. And will poulter killed it.)

The last time I rewatched with my sister we just sat there discussing everything we would do better. Despite not being writers. (Also the Drinian in that movie is SO opposite on how I ever pictured him.)

Also I feel like the best way to adapt that book in particular is a series.

I feel like the director of that movie really just didn’t care that much about the source material. In contrast to like Andrew adamson, those two movies are HIS Narnia in the best way. Like his version.

(Also why I actually am so excited to see Greta gerwigs take. Give this series to people with imaginations and can give us their version! The way c.s. Lewis writes invites the reader to fill in the gaps.)
