Ok, so a little while I reblogged the work of the phenomenally talented @dashka12, who had created the most stunning binding of Icarus, Burning. It is seriously gorgeous, and if you haven't seen @dashka12's original post, go and shout some well deserved praise on it now, because oh my word is the binding fantastic.

Afterwards, Dashka got in touch and very kindly offered to send me a copy as well. The binding arrived yesterday evening (and no, I am not going to be normal about this now, so you're warned).

OH. MY. GOSH.

So, firstly I had a meltdown and a little cry when I opened the parcel (it really is stunning - I'm not exaggerating, it's stunning).

The richness of the cover, the gold leaf and the wonderful, dreamlike galactic interior. I said it to @dashka12 - it feels so very Samiel to me somehow. Dashka's combined that sci-fi feel with something that is far more mythological, and created utter beauty. (And I forgot to take a picture of the mask on the back cover, but IT'S PERFECT.)

But then:

I realised that not only was there a copy of IB, there was also another wrapped parcel that had been sent as well. I initially assumed perhaps IB had been split into two volumes, but... no. I'll give you a clue what the other parcel was:

YOU SEE WHERE THIS IS GOING, RIGHT?!

Look at it. Look. It's sheer and total and wondrous perfection.

There is something so very, very Hess about this binding, and @dashka12 has captured it beautifully. That heavenly, stunning angelic exterior; the demonic interior leaf pages. The beautiful gilded pages and the biblical feel of the whole binding - I just. I can't. I don't have words to describe it, or do it proper justice, because I'm actually speechless with how much I love it. All I can say is it's been twenty-four hours, and I still can't stop looking at it (or IB, either).

Look, I'm going to be completely honest: when I saw what @dashka12 had created I really did cry. For someone to create such beautiful work - such art - from something I wrote, means so much to me. To be able to hold books - actual books - that sprang from my fics honestly just blew me away. For the first time, something I'd written felt oddly real, in a way I can't really explain (possibly my olde schoole brain still equates physical books with being a Genuine Author somehow).

So thank you, @dashka12. From the bottom of my heart, thank you. Your creativity and your talent are phenomenal; your kindness even more so. You've given me something priceless with these, and I can never thank you enough.

(And yes, both books are now sitting in pride of place on my bookshelf - right next to my 18th C. copy of the Iliad. Take that, Homer - you only wish you looked this good.)

Dan shivers, can't help himself. Dumb, animal fear, and he wants to bare his throat to it. “What are you – ”

“I promised,” Hess whispers. “I promised. But just this, alright? It'll be like it never happened.” He slides a step nearer, the pressure of his fingers hard and greedy. “It won't matter.”

After the apocalypse doesn't quite happen, Daniel Waters is just trying to return to his nice, quiet life. What he gets instead is a new neighbour. Hess is friendly, charming and working with demons. He's also strangely familiar.

There are gaps in Dan's memory, but that doesn't seem to matter. They say the devil always looks after his own, and apparently?

Well, apparently Dan belongs to the devil.

It is FINALLY time to share my bind of Path to Paradise by @ladyinbooks! This is an original work on AO3 about the man who fought the Beast and his demons at the apocalypse and the gaps in his memory after. This was the first original work I read on AO3 and I NEEDED to bind it! The typeset is inspired by illuminated manuscripts because I wanted to be dramatic and biblical with this antichrist story. The case is covered in brown faux leather with gold foil details. I also tried speckled (sprinkled ?) edges for the first time for the vibes. I’d definitely like to give it another try sometime! The cover art of Dan and Hess was commissioned from the incredible @pangolin2b-commissionopen!

So my life now is even worse than it has been since I started the school year. It's a good idea to study a higher degree in Multimedia Design and Professional Printing in the afternoons, they said. It will be easy and fun for you, they said. And you can continue working in the mornings, of course, you are used to battle, what can you lose? They said.

And oh, they weren't lying, it's being intense.

The bad part: dear @leelany-world, @qrjung, @marcusrobertobaq, I'm stagnant being very slow with our project, but by ra9 🖐️ I'll finish it when they stop shooting at me.

Mom, they elected me student president! 😆 lol

So I would like to be able to READ ALL THE FF RECOMMENDED BY MY FRIENDS (very important point), look for more fanart in remote places, talk more to everyone, make other trips that are not home-work-school-home and other normal person stuff. And well, have a fandom life in general terms. Is that possible? No, at least for now, but it probably will be in the future if I survive all this. And I usually survive like the die-hard bitch that I am.

The good part: I'm going to learn a lot of Photoshop and other tools, which will be useful for guess what I have in mind?

Oh my gosh, what a lovely message. Thank you! I can't believe you've read P2P so much (and I'm honoured you have! ❤️❤️❤️) You know, I miss them too. Periodically, Hess comes along to gnaw on my brain as I think about the P2P AU, and the last oneshot (post-P2P) I have planned for them. Is it terrible I miss their toxic, toxic ways? I mean, it's such fun writing things like:
