The Original DnD 5e Starter Set was easy to get, and as I get further and further into this hobby, it continues to make me long for a simple small scale adventure, which my fantasy epic brain never seems to let me run. There's a certain cosy feeling I get from the town of Phandalin, and I find myself coming back to the adventure's various combat locations to help me build more of my own stories.
If you're new to the game, the adventure book isn't actually that helpful. It's missing maps in places where they would be incredibly helpful, and is set out in a manner that isn't the easiest for a beginner to process. That being said, it has a reasonably strong quest hook that engaged my players every time I've run it, and it does a good job of teaching the players a bit at a time, starting with a simple combat, then a simple little dungeon, and then through everything you need to know.
Would I have done better if I started with a different product? Yes. Am I glad I started here anyway? Even more so.

We played the Mines of Phandelver module a while back, and sometimes I think about my character for that one and wonder how he's doing.
Calythise was a dark elf bard who was clearly a "medieval 80s" rockstar. I tried to relate all his spells back to rock songs or stage performance tricks. He was vain and flirty and always open to opportunities for more power or wealth or entertainment (as long as they can be gained somewhat lazily, through charisma).
"The only person Cal loves is himself," my husband/DM remarked, and it's... mostly true.
I do not remember all the details, but basically Cal went rogue and got himself on the Black Spider's good side (presented a la The Adventure Zone, because how can you not, that voice is hilarious), while somehow not entirely betraying the party, and then convinced Vhalak the doppelganger to work with him to usurp the Black Spider.
All said and done, we completed the module, got some neat boons from the forge, and then Calythise went on to become an NPC alongside Vhalak, who was newly disguised as the Black Spider as though the guy hadn't been brutally murdered.
In a later campaign (the latter half of Out of the Abyss) with the same party (except of course I was playing a different character), Calythise appeared as a representative of the Zhentarim.
Of course, it wasn't always Calythise. Sometimes it was actually Vhalak. And sometimes Cal seemed to be in two places at once. They wore matching rings of mind shielding that also allowed them to communicate telepathically with each other.
Vhalak then, disguised as a gnome called Smee (idk if this was another module character or ??), accompanied the party into the Underdark to keep an eye on them and make sure the Zhentarim got their cut of whatever came out of there.
In the end, he reported back with the Wand of Orcus in hand. The party (myself included lol) had entirely forgotten about it.
So now the Zhentarim just has that.
Or rather, my chaotic neutral drow and his doppelganger boyfriend have that.
I definitely have a need to play out more of Cal and Vhalak's adventures climbing criminal ladders. I miss those rascals.

The character I play now I started playing Yiris with my master in “Lost Mine of Phandelver”. She is a warlock whit pact of Seeker(Unearthed Arcana)  However, one little campaign turned into two more, and there will be a third! I'll talk about her backstory as I post art because I have LOTS of content on these games

We are going to have so much fun!
I thought it would be a great idea to play a friendly game of D&D with my friends. I said, "Hey buddies, let's play some D&D. We can roleplay, go on an epic adventure, and have tons of fun! What do you say?" They agreed and thought it was a great idea. My father and I pitched in money to buy Fantasy Ground, so I could play with my friends that live in different states. We all agreed that this was an excellent investment for good fun playing D&D with the pals in the future. I thought, "Hey, we should play the starter campaign - Lost Mines of Phandelver - for the gang to get the hang of D&D, so that way, we'll have more fun playing it." I told this to everyone, and my boys were on board. Everyone thought this was a great idea…
We were fools. Fools for thinking we were going to have a fun time. For what awaits us was the most stupid and god awful experience I have, and many of my boys have been through in this one weird, long campaign.

Early Campaign Higlights
- First excursion, Addy trips into a tiny goblin trap and twists her ankle.
- Poor goblins lay the worst snare in the whole world, Addy picks up the rope.
- The whole party manages to beef our stealth rolls so bad that we get caught in a room with a loud ass waterfall. Azari gets KO’ed for the first time
- Cragmaw Castle, Adelaide tries to show off and take out goblins on towers, beefs her rolls and breaks her nose t h r e e times trying to climb a ladder.
- We meet Pip, Toblin’s son, a young lad of about 5 years old. He and Adelaide immediately have Beef. Large prank war ensues.
- Our intrepid DM, Kyle cannot pronounce the word ‘brazier’ this results in many monsters around the world being in possession of flaming lingerie.
- Azari’s first investigation, she beefs the roll and ends up head butting a guard in the crotch. This is Gary, and she now hates him.
- Wave Echo Cave, we gain The Slub™️ a club made from the remains of an Ochre Jelly
- Also in Wave Echo, Addy- who’s hella backed up from the amount of health potions she’s downed, takes a 6lb shit. Amber and Azari are Concerned.
- In Thundertree there’s a dragon cult. We the players assume they will be an annoying threat and decide to take them out. Amber tries to pull a push door, which makes a loud noise. Addy, who has taken an invisibility potion thinks this is her signal, kicks open the back door and immediately blows out the knees of the leader and kills half the cult before Azari and Amber can open the door.
