One of my favorite animation sequences ever, from A Boy Named Charlie Brown (1969). He's playing the 2nd movement (Adagio cantabile) of Beethoven's "Pathétique" Sonata (No. 8 in C minor, Op. 13)

Round 1 of 8, Group 6 of 8
Tumblr media Tumblr media
propaganda and summaries are under the cut (May include spoilers)
Better Call Saul: 6.07 Plan and Execution
Jimmy and Kim deal with a last-minute snag in their plan; Lalo is forced to make an unexpected move.
Detective Conan: 1.11 Moonlight Sonata Murder Case
cw for suicide and transphobia (murderer poses as a woman but as soon as this is revealed they solely get adressed by their birth name and people use male pronuns for them, then they commit suicide)
Richard is called to Moonlight Island by a mysterious client to investigate a series of murders related to the death of a famous piano player years earlier.
For those that don't know, Detective Conan is a manga turned anime, in which a brilliant but also quite self-absorbed 17-year old detective Shinichi Kudo gets turned into a kid by a failed poison, having him go by Conan Edogawa now. It definitely pegs him down a notch, and Moonlight Sonata is one of the first cases where his character development kicks off. It just subtly and beautifully changed the tone of this show. In almost all previous cases, Conan would unravel how the murderer did it, ending with them confessing and being taken in by police. In this case however, the murderer not only has made a special connection with him during their stay on the island, they also chose to die the same way their family did. And I’m no matter what Conan tried, he couldn't safe them. It's one of the first cornerstones of the difference between pre-poison and post-poison Shinichi. Also, after watching it once, you will always think of this specific episode when hearing Beethoven's "Moonlight Sonana".

Morning Melodies
Tumblr media
Eddie Munson header edit created by and used with permission from the incomparable @somnambulic-thing
For the @stcreators Event 04: Music
Rockstar!Eddie Munson x Fem!Reader (description vague apart from AFAB) Summary: Eddie and Reader engage in some romantic morning sex. Warnings/Tropes: Established relationship, pure romantic smut (fingering, oral, fem receiving, p in v sex) Note: I love guys who can play the piano. I think it's sexy as hell. Guitars are great, don't get me wrong, but imagine if Eddie could play the piano too? This is purely self-indulgent. Word Count: 1300
You opened your eyes and stretched languidly as wakefulness overtook you. The morning sun streamed in through the windows, and a faint summer breeze stirred the white sheer curtains.  You glanced at the bedside clock; it was almost 8:30 am.  Eddie was gone; he must have let you sleep in.  You pouted slightly; you so enjoyed being able to wake up beside him, and the mornings when you could lounge in bed together were too few.  Eddie had been on tour the last several months, and you only were able to see him a few times. You always missed him terribly when he was away.
As you sat up, the faint sound of piano music drifted to your ears.  It was Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata, an achingly beautiful, soft melody. You closed your eyes and smiled; soaking it in.  You loved to hear him play.
You slid out of bed naked and put on a discarded white button up shirt that Eddie had worn the night before. You took a moment to breathe his scent; after all this time, he still intoxicated you.
You padded downstairs and around the corner to the sitting room where Eddie played. You leaned against the door frame for a moment before entering; watching him.  He was dressed only in red plaid boxers with his long hair cascading around his shoulders. His dark curls glinted with hints of chestnut in the morning sun, and he looked as if he strolled out of a Botticelli painting. A beautiful, dark angel.
You moved quietly toward him, not wanting to interrupt the beautiful music he was making and ruin the moment.  Once you reached him, however, you couldn’t help but touch him; if only to remind yourself that he was real.  You stepped behind him and snaked your arm over his left shoulder, around to his chest.  You bent to press a kiss on the spot where his neck met his left shoulder; one of your favorite places in the world.
He didn't move or stop playing, but you felt him smile.  "Good morning," he said.  "I hope I didn’t wake you."
"You know I love to hear you play," you breathed into his neck, and kissed it again. "Good morning."
He chuckled.  "Damn, you're learning all of my tricks."
You came around to face him, leaning on the edge of the piano, but careful not to get in his way.  "Don’t change your ways on my account."
He smiled at you beatifically. When the sun caught his eyes just right, you thought they looked like honey; a glimpse into the sweetness within that he reserved only for you.
You stuck out your lower lip in a mock pout. "I was sad not to see you in bed with me when I woke up.  You know how I like to wake up slowly with you, and, um…acclimate each other to the new day."  You sighed, and smiled.  "This does make up for it though."
You walked around to the back of the piano, and climbed on top of it. He watched you with a cocked eyebrow but said nothing.  You walked slowly down the length of the instrument, almost to the flow of the music, and stopped at the edge, looking down on him.  Carefully, you lowered yourself down to a sitting position; legs crossed.  His expression took on an intensity that made goosebumps prickle along your skin.
Carefully, so as not to interrupt him, you placed each foot on one of his shoulders. He turned his head and kissed your left ankle, then gave the skin of your calf a little nibble.  You gasped, your breathing picking up pace.  You slowly unbuttoned the shirt, his shirt, fully exposing yourself.  You loved hearing him play, but you needed him to touch you.  You bit your lip in anticipation.
You tilted your pelvis so as to make yourself more accessible, and without missing a note, he rose up from the bench and leaned forward.  You felt his warm, silken tongue draw up the length of your slit, and you moaned.  He licked your entrance for a moment, and then his mouth closed to suckle on your clit.  Your legs shuddered with the pleasure of it, and you fought to remain upright.  He alternated between sucking and licking, sending you into paroxysms of ecstasy.  You felt your climax building, but suddenly his mouth was gone, leaving your heat aching with the need for release.
He stopped playing and stood up, eyes blazing.  He stared at you hungrily as you lifted one bare foot and touched his bulge with your toes.  You drew your foot slowly up his length, and his head fell back as he groaned. He reached down and pulled the band of his boxers down just enough to release his cock. You smiled at the perfect sight of him; his tatted and toned torso visible through his unbuttoned shirt, his impressive length standing at full attention.
He grabbed your hips and pulled you to the very edge of the piano, and gently entwined the fingers of one hand into your hair.  He slid two long, skilled fingers into your heat, pushing them in as far as they would go.  He probed and hooked his fingers inside of you, hitting all the right places, and you gasped and moaned, hips squirming.  He could obviously tell by your wetness that you needed no further preparation, and after a few moments, he withdrew his digits.  He grasped his cock, and pushed the tip into your entrance. “Yes,” you moaned breathlessly.  "Please Eddie.“
He thrust his hips forward, sinking the full length of him into your depths in one, deliberate movement.  He kept one hand in your hair, holding you still as he thrust into you languidly at first, gradually picking up speed.  You attempted to moan his name, but all that came out was an ecstatic cry.  Your skin slapped audibly as he pounded into you; one foot slipped off his hips and smashed the piano keys, creating a cacophony that made Eddie chuckle despite his efforts. This carried on for several minutes; your mingled breathing punctuated with the occasional sour note caused by your foot hitting the keys as Eddie fucked you.  It wasn’t long before a powerful orgasm washed over you; your walls tightening on his cock. The force of the climax was unrelenting, and your hips bucked as the waves of ecstasy washed over you again and again.  You cried out; it was as if your very skin was on fire, and your mound tingled with a new sensitivity.
"God...fuck..." he panted, and his teeth clamped down onto your left ear as he climaxed, grinding his pelvis into yours as he pumped his release into you.
He kissed you deeply before gently untwining his fingers from your hair, and braced himself with his hands on the piano, catching his breath.  You stroked the curls that framed his face.  "I've missed you Eddie,“ you said softly.
"I missed you too babe.  Enormously."  He gave you another peck on the lips before withdrawing and pulling up his boxers with a snap.  "You didn’t let me finish the song," he said with a wink.
You laughed and hopped off of the piano. "There will be time for that later.  First, coffee."
"Nope," he grinned at you, shaking his head.  "First shower.  Then coffee."
And so the melody continued, and the mingled sounds of your love and joy was a special kind of music indeed. 🖤

Did Ethan play the piano?
There are a bunch of little hints scattered through these games about Ethan's character. He seems to have a love for the retro ‒ at least, his drawer is full of jazz CDs and he drives a 1971 Dodge Challenger. As Rose notes, he's clearly a wine drinker. And he may have played he piano.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I don't want to overstate the hints RE7&8 give us on that last part. Resident Evil is, after all, a universe where apparently being able to bang out a full sonata at a moment's notice is just a basic life skill for anyone who might want to infiltrate a suspicious facility (though just jamming a few bars of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star may also do in a pinch).
There's a piano in the Winters' home, but then, maybe Mia's the one who plays, or maybe the BSAA set them up in an already-furnished house ‒ who knows? You can't actually interact with it as Ethan, nor does Rose comment on it. But Rose does wonder out loud if her Dad played any instruments (after he jokes about whether baby Rose banging her spoon to the Miss D. record suggests she's going to grow up to be a musician) ‒ and that at least primes you to notice that piano, if you hadn't already.
There are also two different pianos you can interact with in the Baker property ‒ one in the guest room, which will slam shut if Ethan reaches for the keys, and a second in Lucas' room that merely prompts the message 'it's broken'.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's not until Dimitrescu's castle that Ethan himself finally gets to make like all those other Resi heros, and bash out a quick solo to open a mini door in the piano, in which you'll find a key that will open another door... look, you've heard this one before.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There's an argument to be had whether any of the puzzle solutions in a video game like RE should be taken as truly diegetic. But if nothing else, this does at least suggest Ethan can read sheet music. Here's the asset for the sheet, by the way (and again with the bit you actually play highlighted). You can hear someone play the full song ("Sogno" ‒ which means 'Dream' in Italian ‒ by Francesco Paolo Tosti) here.
Tumblr media
There's even a version with lyrics, though I doubt they necessarily meant much to whoever picked this piece for the game: more likely it was chosen for being a song with a very simple treble clef (so the player doesn't have to do too much work to solve the 'puzzle') but a much more complicated bass (so it still sounds sophisticated when played). Regardless, you can hear it sung here.
There's also one other little clue that might suggest that someone in the Winters' household has some real musical leanings: one of the CDs you can find in that drawer is titled 'Jazz Standard Theory'. Which sounds a lot more like an instructional CD than easy listening (though they're certainly not winning any prizes for those other titles).
Tumblr media
Actually, while we're talking Ethan's CD collection, here's the asset for that Miss D & the Pallboys CD too! Surprisingly, it has a back as well, suggesting that at some point you might have been able to pick it up and examine it. The text is all pretty illegible, however.
Tumblr media
(I've talked before about the theory that 'Miss D' is actually Lady Dimitrescu, but if you want the short version ‒ given that she's not from the village and is 'descended from a fallen noble', this one's surprisingly plausible!)
Hilariously, a love for jazz might just be one thing Ethan has in common with the Bakers, given you can find some records lying around the rec room upstairs.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mind you, even RE2R managed to work a jazz festival flyer into this one puzzle solution...
Tumblr media
Does someone in the team at Capcom have a thing for Jazz? Evidence is starting to stack up...
But getting back to our original topic, does Ethan play the piano? You can make a case either way, as the game never tells us explicitly. But there's enough here to point that way that I'd like to think he does, anyhow.
Which only makes the implications of this so much more tragic.

(8/18) prompt: unexpected— 566 words (a soft piano moment) @jegulus-microfic
Distantly, Regulus hears the front door open and close as James gets home from work. He doesn’t move from where he sits on the small bench at the piano, continuing to see the familiar classical melody through to the end. His fingers glide precisely over black and white keys, the melody carrying out the sitting room’s open door.
It’s not a surprise that James follows the music and finds him there. Regulus stays focused, even when he notices his boyfriend in his peripheral vision. He always gets like this when he plays; wrapped up in the flow of crescendos and decrescendos, the careful pacing to be just right.
The song gradually approaches its conclusion, and Regulus feels the gentle press of James’ hand between his shoulder blades. He rubs back and forth; a soothing motion, because he’s got to know that Regulus being at the piano out of the blue like this is a sign. An unspoken secret shared by his seeking comfort in the old instrument.
Playing the piano again became a stress relief mechanism for Regulus, James knows this. It’s easier to quiet his racing thoughts when he’s got his fingers dancing over the keys. Sometimes he tries to challenge himself with new sheet music, but most often it’s the safety net of his favorite pieces that he gravitates toward.
Tonight it’s Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata, and while that in itself says nothing in particular, it does still set a certain mood. James stands close behind him on the bench, present and patient with his hand still moving, as he finishes. As soon as he lifts his fingers from the final keys and leaves them resting, Regulus lets out a sigh.
“This is unexpected.” James speaks softly then presses a kiss into the top of Regulus’ hair. “You haven’t played in a little while. Everything alright, love?”
“Just feeling a bit loud today.” Regulus shrugs; he knows James will understand what he’s referring to. After a moment, he leans back into him. “Thought I could use the pleasant distraction, I suppose.”
“Pleasant distraction?” James’ low tone turns playful. He smooths his hands along Regulus’ shoulders then slides one beneath the collar of his shirt, down his chest. “I can do pleasant distraction.”
“Oh, can you?” Regulus hums out a chuckle, tilting his head back far enough to look up at him. “No special requests first?”
Keeping one hand splayed over Regulus’ steadily quickening heart in his shirt, James lifts his other hand from his shoulder. He brushes the back of his fingers along the line of Regulus’ jaw before grasping at his chin, tilting his head even further backward. The angle has Regulus finally slipping his hands off the piano, one moving to sink into the back of James’ hair when he leans over him as needed.
“A kiss would be nice.” An exhaled sigh, hot in the couple inches that remain between their faces.
Regulus’ lips twitch upward faintly. “Mm, does sound lovely.”
He’s been home all evening, but when James kisses him slow and sweet, something warm and content settles into Regulus’ bones. Something that feels like he’s just walked into their place for the first time all over again. He feels quieter already, save for the perfect harmony of his hurried heart and the loop of James James James in his head.
It’s yet another song Regulus will always find his comfort in.

You know, since you've given your opinion on classicaloid chopin, may i ask you on your opinions on other popular media chopins? Like, rhythmstar, classi9, eternal sonata, etc. Maybe rank them from furthest to closest to you as a person like you did with the movie chopins
Well of course you may… These are varying forms of media, so a little more difficult to rank, and also being that I don’t know all of them too well…
Ranking is based off of entertainment factor as much as realism.
Classi9: Classi9 is great. It really is a funny and caricaturish portrayal of mine and Franz’s friendship. I’d say it got our temperaments pretty accurate. And it still focuses on me as a pianist and musician, has an actual plot etc… 8/10!
Tumblr media
Classicaloid: Well it helps that they’re not direct representations of us. Chopin-san and I share similar personalities, although I would not say that I am so shy as him. I’m an introvert but I enjoy friends’ company… 7/10.
Tumblr media
Boku no Chopin: Concentrates a little more on historical context but certainly isn’t biographical. Franz appears obsessed with me — not necessarily unrealistic — and I appear to be one step away from becoming the ‘uwu’ ‘bbg’ everyone already thinks I am… disgusting. Really makes me want to shut my head in the lid of my piano… 6/10.
Tumblr media
Eternal Sonata: He could resemble me more physically. There is still something of me in him, though! The way he speaks… The melancholy… I admit, the plot confuses me. 4/10.
Tumblr media
Rhythmstar: Again, it’s a bit of a limited portrayal so I really have nothing to say. I like his hair — wouldn’t be something I’d wear though. And why on earth are they playing my pieces like that? Why are there drums? 2/10.

NCT's 4th album title track 'Golden Age' is a reinterpretation of Beethoven : Piano Sonata No. 8 In C Minor, Op. 13 'Pathetique' - II. Adagio Cantabile, the composition that utilizes a variety of intense trap beats and elegant piano melodies shows the magnificence of the song.
Moreover, hopeful lyrics of welcoming NCT's brilliant golden age and picture a bright future together and the member's rich harmony blends in together, and is even more emotional and touching as it is a song where all 20 members participate.
