[ ID: Photos of a flooded airport. It has several stories, and the water has taken a good chunk of the first floor. The second picture shows the water reaching the seats on the first floor. The water is brown. /End ID ]
Photos from Salgado Filho International Airport in Porto Alegre, RS. People inside are being rescued by boat. This has delayed many people's flights as well and is making it so many people are stuck in or outside Porto Alegre, unable to go home.

With what's happening in the south of Brazil now, it reminded me of two weeks ago in class. A class about sociobiodiversity and food insecurity. We talk a lot about agriculture, of course, soil health and water quality. Just got a message in a group saying that, yes, water will be affected by the flood because it's hard to manage all that mud and trash that comes with it; also the toxoplasmosis. And, that reminded me of that class, of the teacher asking us to make groups and discuss how we could battle food insecurity, obesity epidemic and climate change. And I sat there, tired, frustrated, angry with everything because really? I could only think about that post "I'm too much of a commie to have this conversation" but with me was "I'm too much of an anarchist to have this conversation in a fucking PhD class". Greed and power go hand in hand and I'm fucking tired of the failure of the state in the hands of money.
