Pairing: Au!Walter Marshall x Jessica Talbot (OFC)

WC 1740

Warnings: attempted SA and violence

The night was cold as she stepped out of the bar, bidding her friends from work a goodnight. Having had a few drinks herself, she decided it was best to walk the short distance to her apartment, hoping the night air would clear her head enough to where she didn’t have a hangover in the morning. Pulling her coat around herself, she started down the street, modest heels clacking against the pavement. The streets were empty save for a few cars passing every now and then, street lights glowing, shining off the snow lining the roadways and sidewalks. Her breath came in dragon puffs of steam in front of her and she walked just a little bit faster, wanting to get out of the cold.

A shrill ring in her pocket made her scowl slightly and she stopped to dig her phone out, answering the call and putting it to her ear.

“Yeah?” She asked and the other person responded, “Yeah, I’m walking home now. Nah, it’s fine girl, you don’t have to swing around to pick me up, I don’t live far. Yeah, see you--” A hand clamped around her mouth, muffling the surprised scream, the cold edge of a knife pressing to her throat. Her phone hit the ground as she was pulled into an alleyway, one of her shoes coming off as she struggled against the person dragging her.

“Scream and I’ll cut your fuckin’ throat, got it?” The voice hissed in her ear and she hit the ground of the alley hard, knocking the wind from her lungs, stars dancing in front of her eyes as her head bounced off the pavement. She tried to scramble away from her attacker but he was on her in an instant, pinning her to the ground as the knife pressed against her again. Rough hands ripped at her stockings, pushing up her skirt, rancid breath fanning her face and she heard the jangle of a belt being undone. Tears burned in her eyes as she fought back, but her attacker was large, and the knife pressed tighter against the delicate skin of her neck as the hand clamped over her mouth again, smelling of dirt and grime. Thick fingers fumbled between her legs, pulling at her underwear.

The weight and the knife were suddenly gone and there was a surprised shout, the sound of someone hitting the ground. She looked up, seeing her would-be rescuer in silhouette against the light coming into the alley. He was big, a halo of curls around his head, but it was too dark to see his face. He turned his attention to her, holding a hand down to her and she flinched.

“Are you okay?” He asked, his voice low and kind and she reached up, taking his offered hand and letting him help her to feet.

“I’m fine.” She said, tears starting to run down her face, “He was going to--” She was gently pulled against a warm chest, a soft sweater pressing against her cheek.

“You’re okay now, you’re safe.” He said, his deep voice soothing in her ear and she felt the catch of a beard against her hair. “Is there someone you can call? Do you need to go to the hospital?”

“No, I think I’m--” He suddenly gave a pained shout and she looked over his shoulder, seeing her attacker behind him, his hand wrapped around the knife he had threatened her with buried in the man’s back high in his shoulder. He pulled away from her, turning slowly, the handle protruding from his back and her attacker backed up a few steps, tripping over his feet and falling to the ground. He approached the man slowly, deliberately, picking him up by his shirt and slamming him against the wall of the alley, lifting him off his feet. Darkness made it impossible to see what he did next, but there was a sickening crunch that turned her stomach and the man went limp, her rescuer letting him fall to the ground like forgotten refuse.

Walking over to him slowly, she slid a shaking hand over his shoulder.

“You’ve been stabbed,” She said dimly, “We need to--” Her words died in her throat as he whipped his head around to look at her, eyes burning unnaturally in the darkness. He was on her in a second, face buried in her neck and there was a sharp pain as she felt her skin break. Arms were steel bands around her own and she felt the first pull on her throat before it faded into numbness. Her strength left her from pull after pull and the world swam until it faded into darkness.

She woke in her own bed, pale winter sunlight streaming in through the window. She laid there for a while in the silence before it all came rushing back, the attack, the rescue, everything. It was just a nightmare, only a nightmare. Had to have been. She didn’t remember getting home, but she must have, she was laying under her covers in her pajamas. Thirst slammed into her and she looked over, seeing the tall glass of water on her bedside table and she reached for it, sitting up and drinking it quickly without a thought. Her neck throbbed painfully, but when she reached up, she didn’t feel anything, the expanse of skin unbroken. Just a nightmare. Just a really vivid nightmare. She was never drinking whiskey again.

Her bedroom door opened slowly and she looked at it, seeing as the man stood in the doorway, watching her closely. He was tall, broad in the chest and shoulders, dark hair curling around his face and a thick beard covering his jaw. He was dressed in a dark, thick sweater and dark jeans and they stared at each other for a moment.

“You’re awake.” He said finally, his voice familiar, too familiar, and panic rose in her throat, fear tasting like blood on her tongue. Not a nightmare. Breaths came ragged and lungs burned as she fought to breathe. “Whoa, hey!” He rushed to her but she scrambled away from him, curling against the headboard.

“Don’t touch me!” She yelled and he stopped in his tracks.

“Take it easy,” He said slowly, “You’re okay now, you’re safe.”

“What…happened?” She asked, still struggling to breathe and he sighed, sitting down on the edge of her bed, the mattress dipping with his weight.

“You were attacked.” He said slowly, “I pulled him off you and you passed out from shock.”

“Attacked?” She asked, looking over at him and he nodded.

“I was lucky to be there when I was.” He said, and it was then she saw the hole in his sweater, high on his shoulder, the skin underneath whole.

“That’s not--” She started, recalling the feeling of his face in her neck, the knife sticking out of his back. “You--” He sighed again, rubbing a hand over his face.

“Shit.” He said.

“I---you---”

“Take it easy.” He said, “Breathe, okay? You have to breathe.” His hand was at the back of her neck, guiding her head between her knees. “Slow, easy breaths. I know it’s a lot to take in. Fuck, I’m sorry Jessica.” His hand left her neck and she looked up at him.

“How did you know my name?” She asked, focusing on her breathing.

“Drivers license.” He said simply, “In your bag, it’s how I knew where to take you to recover.”

“Are you…” She swallowed heavily, “Going to kill me?” He blinked at her in shock at the question.

“No,” He said firmly, “I’m not going to kill you. I was injured and I lost control.”

“But you…”

“Yeah.” He said.

“Are you a--” She couldn’t even form the words to say it but he seemed to know what she was going to say regardless.

“Yeah.” He said again, looking away from her.

“Son of a bitch.” She said, putting her head back between her knees and he gave a humorless chuckle.

“Yeah.”

“Why’d you stay?” She asked, “Why didn’t you just leave me?”

“I wanted to make sure you were okay.” He said, looking down at his hands. “I haven’t lost control like that in a while, and I just…fuck.”

“You wanted to make sure I wouldn’t tell anyone.” He looked at her then, giving her an even stare with his brilliant blue eyes.

“You honestly think anyone would believe you?” He asked and there was a pause.

“No,” She finally admitted, “No, they wouldn’t.”

“You’re with the DA, right?” He asked, “I think I’ve seen you around the courthouse.” She looked at him, really looked at him. He did look sort of familiar, someone she’s maybe seen in passing.

“Yeah.” She said and he extended a hand.

“Walter Marshall.” He said and she stared at it for a moment before sliding her hand in his, his palm warm and rough against hers.

“Jessica Talbot.”

“It’s nice to meet you, Jessica. Formally, I mean.” He said as they shook hands gently.

“Nice to meet you too?” She said and he snorted, pulling his hand back. “What time is it?”

“Late.” He said and she looked at her alarm clock.

“Shit!” She exclaimed, moving to get out of bed, “I’m late for work, I have to--”

“I called you out, gave them the excuse that you’re sick with the flu. Should give you a couple of days.” He said and she relaxed again.

“And they just took your word for it?”

“I’m a Lieutenant with the Police Department,” He said, “My word carries some weight. Not a lot, mind you, but enough.”

“Well, shit.” She said, “A police officer and a…” she still couldn’t say it, saying it would make it real. As if it wasn’t real enough already. “A bit “Nick Knight”, isn’t it?”

“Hey, don’t knock the classics.” He said and she snorted in amusement despite herself. “I’ll leave you to rest.” He said and pushed up from the bed, heading for the door.

“Walter?” She asked and he stopped, turning to look at her. “Thank you for, you know, saving me. Not so much for the other thing.”

“Get some sleep.” He said and left, leaving the door open behind him. She heard him leave the apartment, the front door closing with a solid click and she sat there for a moment before rubbing her eyes. Sleep. Right. She doubted she would ever sleep again.

hello little gay people who live in my phone, here are my thoughts on yellowjackets 02x03. spoilers below cut

first of all! lets talk taivan bc i feel like we got some good stuff from them this week so i’m starting there bc i love them

- i felt so bad for tai when she had the realization of what happened. like she had no idea and it’s so upsetting like she had to process that not only did she do that but everyone else did it willingly! also how van just immediately tells her that she ate the face, van, baby, i love you but maybe don’t immediately tell your gf that she ate someone’s face in her sleep. also interesting to me that she went for the face given that in 02x01 she tries to eat van’s face in her sleep

- van following tai when she sleepwalked, she’s so so so worried for her and i feel like in this episode she really fully sees how bad it is. finding out about the man w/ no eyes, sleepwalking tai not being tai, it’s all super wild and i want to learn more i wanna know what her connection to the supernatural is and being drawn to the rune was interesting

- during the bird scene when van was collecting them like lottie said, the way tai was looking at her made me sad. like we know the cult shit is causing issues between them but i don’t like seeing it. i do think i read somewhere that tai ends up getting more into it to stay closer to van so that’ll be interesting to see

- ok now onto the big moment for the taivan girlies: THE FUCKING MIRROR SCENE i’m obsessed mirror tai mouthing “go to her” and forming the doomcoming mask with her hands oh my god i can’t. and then her immediately running out at taking her assistant’s (or advisor or whoever that lady is) and calling jessica roberts (rip). i wanna know how she ends up finding van cause we know jessica can’t help anymore but yeah just the desperation to go find her in that moment was a lot for me and i cannot wait to get adult van next week

alright now onto some more general thoughts that aren’t taivan

- once again feeling terrible for our doomed king, ben. the scenes where he was remembering paul and imagining having gone to him instead of getting on the plane… my poor guy :( also him hallucinating rabid gen was great and honestly valid. at this point i honestly feel like ben’s gonna end up killing himself, whether he just like stops eating or like full on commits suicide i honestly think he’s just gonna die then get eaten rather than being killed for food

- i loved the scene of nat just staring at jackie’s body. her guilt and shame was so clear and just demonstrated well between that scene and what she said to the bones after dropping them off at the plane

- i don’t trust walter. the way he instantly jumped to flattering misty in exactly the way that works on her makes me suspicious and i wanna know what he’s up to. other than that mostly didn’t care about him and misty’s shenanigans except that its leading them to lottie and therefore our mistynat reunion

- lottie telling shauna that jackie would’ve wanted shauna to eat her and shauna saying she wanted to eat her… the homoeroticism of cannibalism my beloved

- loved loved loved the bits with akilah this episode, her and tai talking, her talking about her nephew, it was just SO sweet and so wonderful and i love her

- misty and crystal agreeing that jackie was tasty, crystal telling misty about absorbing her twin in the womb, these two are enabling each other’s weirdness and i’m obsessed with their loser girl friendship

- nat hallucinating the moose was interesting bc she’s one of the few main girls that hadn’t hallucinated yet so wonder what that means

- listen. shauna threatening the dude was incredible, i love my unhinged milf, but like the car theft thing took up too much time and also we got too much jeff this episode

- misty’s gift at the baby shower killed me. loved nat, tai, and van talking shit about it that was great but like what the fuck misty why are you like this

- adult lottie seeing the hives bleeding and bees dead was really interested and i wanna know what it means

overall a pretty strong episode. i’m glad that in the wilderness they had a fairly chill time given everything, like we don’t need a big shocking scene each episode and this one was more about dealing with shit and i liked that. my biggest issue this week is, as many people are saying, too much men (ben is the exception bc he’s the only man on this show i really care about)

Archer season 13 so far....

well truthfully this is only my reaction to A.J.’s first episode.

Sooo spoiler warnings...

....warning...

Typical adventures seem about average. No not saying they’re bad or anything its just you know nothing thats making me go “this is poor quality”. A.J.s ep... not gonna lie a bit confused on her age. She said she was a preteen... but that would range from 9-12.... AJ. was 5 when Archer met her in season 11... Season 12 gotta assume what 6? I admit downside they don’t tell you how much time passes. Still think she should be 7. Even if she was 9 that would mean its been 4 years since Archer woke up.

Anyways age aside, thoughts on the ep.... I think Robert controls/or is trying to mold A.J. to his image. Do I see Lana putting her in all those camps yes, to be a better parent/and expand her learning. Lana’s like those moms who push the kids to levels they want them to excel but not as far as I can tell is bad. But anyways back to Robert, while I can believe A.J.’s feeling conflicted about the divorce, don’t see why Robert would have a problem with A.J. being familiar with Pam, I mean he saw them as much as Lana (I mean storywise). I actually liked how Pam was trying to bond with her.

And while Lana probably wouldn’t like it, she does clearly have Archer in her... which makes it hard for me to see him try but still get shut out.

He’s being shut out both by Robert and to degrees Lana. Now before some gets all feminist or whatever on me. I’m not an idiot I know Archer is Archer, but he’s no Rick or the other screw up comedy leads. Archer unlike most of the others is getting character development and is TRYING.

And while I still think Lana mostly cut him out do to complications with the coma and probably was still pissed from the incident with Veronica Dean. I think she should give Archer some ATTEMPTS to bond with A.J. She already has sole custody of her. (No not referring to her ongoing battle with Robert, I mean in regards to her and Archer). Most of the main cast has had some interaction with A.J. and Archer is limited or not allowed from what I can see. And yes I get it, fatherhood has to be earned.

But he can’t earn it if Lana cuts him out. Not gonna lie thought it was a shitty move to cut the toy right in front of him. She is CONSTANTLY trying to make him change and yes I get she was aggravated. But she also saw what Archer was raised with and I do mean that constantly. This isn’t a “oh she saw a bit of Mallory’s parenting”.

I mean heck even from A.J.’s talk Mallory got more time with her (RIP Jessica Walters). And Mallory was once everything Lana claimed to stand against.And although we can go “Well Archer’s a mess”... uhhh half the cast is a mess BD;, I mean Pam did stuff in season 2 to a certain someone... look I’m not gonna nitpick I’m just saying nobody on that cast is perfect.

I mean I remember in season 12 she was a bit peeved at Archer for bonding with a baby gorilla and did that whole “say some words to Poko” but clearly wanted him to remember A.J. As much as she wants to blame Archer himself for putting himself there. Lana is just as much to blame because she cut him OUT of A.J.’s life and never attempted to really let him reach out and know her. I mean I was super pissed at season 11 when she called Robert “daddy” and instead of just letting Archer have a moment, its clearly hinted she was still wishing to cut him out. Instead of keeping a “sleeping beauty” story she let her own daughter she sees Archer as “sperm deposit”.

I mean even if she’s mad he’s gone back to some old ways. Its because he was SUPER pissed that the one time he tried to do right by her and let her have his title of “world’s greatest spy”. I repeat he’s mad because the one time he tried to be selfless and wanted to help Lana, he’s told what he did doesn’t matter. I’m not excusing it, I’m just saying that basically ruined his motivation. I think if Lana would attempt to let A.J. know her father things would change. I mean heck remind him she’s the reason he can see A.J.

I mean she has the power in this relationship and instead of directing him. She lets out her frustrations out on him. I mean the car ride was more of a reason her plans aren’t working. Well just in my opinion when she faked a kidnapping and had him shot. I dunno I think there’s possiblity there for more growth if she’d give Archer a chance and explain to A.J. that he’s her REAL father and not Robert(screw you and your money Robert).

Yes, my comfort character is this guy. Apart from being dangerously handsome, he just fascinates me. Henry delivered an amazing performance with August, and I love further exploring him with my writing.

Epic character development? Check. Great hair? Check. Best nanny in the world? Check. Steve is the one character I didn't even imagine I would like in season 1, and now I would die for him.

Lucille is an icon, nuff said. RIP Jessica Walter, she cracked me up every single time.

She is my soul mate.

Arya Stark, mostly book Arya, because she is a lot more wicked and cunning and her development is still going when in the last seasons on tv it was way too rushed. But yeah, definitely adore that little fighter.

Cersei. I love a bad bitch who knows what she wants

Ripley because there was never anyone more badass than her and growing up, it was a great inspiration to see a woman in horror and action film who is a total boss and not objectified.

Aragorn was always loyal and modest, the true making of a bestie and of a king.

And speaking of kings... hail to the king, baby!!!

Joel is a complex and interesting character, he is the protagonist of the first game, but then again, he is not really a hero... and yet the dad of the year award goes to him. *cries*

She is the queen of my heart, and I will die for her. Burnham is on another level of action and sci-fi heroes.

i dislike walter so much idk why he even exists. he is a rip off of misty, they literally just took misty's character and turned her into walter. walter is basically male!misty.02. he doesnt have any function or narrative reason on the show. at least jeff represents something, and is connected to both shauna and jackie and you can use his character for other narrative reasons. but walter? and pls what the fuck did adam even serve for in the narrative. we have spent so much time on him for no fucking reason i just hate it. what was the kevin x nat thing even about...? and why the heck walter killed kevin even. i fucking hate the porn mustache policeman and i HATED how they gave the investigation role to walter instead and made him sole that when... misty was fucking right there and the 'i solve mysteries' thing is a part of misty's character. adding men into this show was a mistake.

exactly at least jeff has something going for him (even though most of his scenes still aren't interesting to me and aren't funny when they're supposed to be) walter is just WHY like why would they feel the need to give us a misty 2.0 who isn't even as interesting like what was the thought process. misty didn't need a love interest and just why would they invent a character this boring when like you said could've all been misty!!! the adam martin thing in season 1 i get i guess (even though it was also. boring) but them spending so much time on his murder in season 2 is incomprehensible when jessica's death was...a non-issue like oh my god

It was late evening the next day and Walter was sitting at his desk. They had Martin’s home and work on surveillance, but he never showed up at either and the BOLO on his car still turned up nothing.

“Walter!” Jackson called out and he looked up at him, “Martin’s financial reports came in, he has a second property across town.”

“Do we have an address?” Walter asked as he jumped up from his chair, clipping his gun onto his belt.

“Right here.” Jackson said, holding up a sticky note.

“I’m driving.” Walter said and caught the keys as Jackson tossed them to him.

The lights and sirens got people out of their way as they raced towards the location, but he flipped them off as they got closer, not wanting to give their arrival away. Parking outside, they got out of the car and ran towards the house.

“Riley, go around back, I’ll take the front.” Walter said and Riley nodded, running down the driveway and towards the back of the house. The front door was locked, but he just kicked it in and entered the house, gun and flashlight out. The inside of the house was dark, but there was the faint smell of blood in the air, getting stronger as he moved to the back of the house, clearing rooms as he went. Stopping in front of a door in the kitchen, he opened it and the smell of blood and fear hit him in the face. He moved down the stairs slowly into what was probably the cellar, seeing the dim light on in a backroom.

He holstered his weapon as he saw her there, bound to a chair with duct tape, her head down. Dried blood caked her skin from many cuts on her arms and legs bared by her tank top and shorts pajamas, her feet bare on the dirty floor.

Running over to her, he knelt down and lifted her head up, pressing his fingers to her neck and finding a strong pulse.

“Jess?” He asked softly, peeling the tape from her mouth gently, “Jess, baby, wake up, it’s me.” Her eyes opened slowly but were unfocused and she shook her head slightly as if to clear it.

“Charles?” She asked, trying to focus on him.

“Yeah, baby, it’s me.” He said and she started to cry softly, tears leaving tracks through the dirt on her face. Reaching down, he ripped the tape holding her feet to the legs of the chair and went around to her back, doing the same to the tape around her wrists. Going back around to the front, her arms came up, wrapping around his neck and he stood, holding her in his arms as she cried into his shoulder. “I have you, baby, you’re safe now.” He kicked away the chair and laid her down on the floor gently. “Riley!” He called out, “Down here!”

“Took you long enough.” She said weakly and he gave her a smile, brushing her hair from her face. There was a noise behind him and he turned, grabbing Martin by the throat and slamming him against the wall, lifting him off his feet with a snarl. A knife came up but Walter caught his wrist, keeping it down, and he felt the delicate bones break under his grip, the knife falling to the floor. His fangs dropped instantly, almost splitting his gums, and Martin’s eyes widened, a gurgle forcing up his throat that might have been a scream.

“Walter!” Riley called out and came into the room. “Son of a bitch!” He exclaimed as Walter turned his head to look at him. “Motherfucker!” Walter released his grip and Martin fell to the floor, clutching his wrist.

“Cuff him.” Walter ground out and went to go back to Jessica, but stopped as Jackson raised his gun, pointing it at him.

“Don’t…don’t move.” He said and Walter’s fangs retreated.

“Riley, I know you’re freaked out right now, but I have to see to Jess.” He went to move again and Jackson’s hand tightened on the gun.

“I said, don’t move!”

“Riley, listen to me.” Walter said, holding his hands up. “I need to see to Jess and you need to get an ambulance here. She needs help, medical attention.”

“Charles…” Jessica said weakly.

“You’re going to be fine, baby, okay? We’re going to get you help.” Walter said and saw Jackson glance down at her on the floor. Seeing her snapped him out of it and the gun lowered. “Riley, call an ambulance. We’ll talk later, okay?”

“You’re fucking right we will.” He said and pulled his phone out. “This is Riley Jackson, badge number 8722, I need medical services and uniforms at my location, 82nd Broad Street, we found Jessica Talbot.” He hung up the phone, putting it back in his pocket. “They’re on their way.”

“Good.” Walter said and went back to her, picking her up in his arms and lifting her from the floor in a bridal carry. “Secure Martin, I’m getting her out of here.” Riley didn’t look at him as he went past, carrying her up the stairs.

Jackson was quiet as they followed the ambulance to the hospital and he still didn’t say anything as the doctors looked her over and she was settled into a room, an IV in her hand to help her flush the sedatives out of her system. Walter left her room as she rested, walking out into the hall where Jackson was sitting.

“Walter!” He looked up at his name.

“Melinda!” He said and held her as she pulled him into a hug.

“Is she alright? Is she okay?” Melinda asked, pulling back and Walter nodded.

“She’s going to be fine, she just needs rest.” He said.

“You get the guy?” Jake asked and Walter nodded again. “Give me five minutes alone in a room with him, that’s all I need.”

“Jake, you know I can’t do that.” Walter said, “Besides, Jess beat us to it.” Jake gave him a questioning look and Walter shrugged. “She broke his nose during the abduction.”

“Thatta girl.” David sighed, “Mel, Jake, why don’t you guys go in and see her. Walter, let’s go see what piss poor excuse this hospital has for coffee, you look like you need one.” Walter looked at Jackson who was just sitting there, staring down at the floor, before turning his attention back to David.

“Yeah, lead the way.” He said and they walked off, making their way down to the cafeteria, sitting down at a table after getting coffee. They didn’t say anything for a long while, Walter holding his coffee in his hands while David sipped his slowly.

“You know,” David said, “I knew a guy like you in the service, a buddy in the Berets.”

“Yeah?” Walter asked and David nodded.

“There was as much of a chance of him drinking that coffee as you have.” David said and Walter looked up at him. “The way you moved when you and Jake fought was way too familiar. He moved like that. Never saw him eat, never saw him drink, I don’t even think I saw him sleep.”

“What was his name?” Walter asked.

“Mike.” David said, “Mike Jones, but I don’t think that was his real name.”

“It probably wasn’t.” Walter said, “How’d you find out?”

“We were some backwater in Vietnam, moving through the brush when we were ambushed by the Cong.” David said, “We took care of it, but I saw him go down, his chest blown open by a bullet, but he just got right back up again like it was nothing. Should have killed him instantly. His eyes…glowed, like there was a fire lit behind them, and his teeth, they uh…”

“Yeah.” Walter said, nodding.

“He ripped into one of the Cong that was still alive. Tore into his neck until the guy died and I saw the hole in his chest fill itself in and heal over like it was never there.” David said, “When we got back to camp we had a talk, he told me the truth about himself, made me swear not to tell anyone. As if anyone would believe me.”

“And what makes you think I’m like him?”

“Like I said, you move like he did, and I’ve never seen you eat or drink either. You made some pretty good excuses at the dinner when Jess brought you to the house, and I could believe that you didn’t want to drink because you had to drive, but you can have a beer or two and still be good to drive.” David said and Walter looked down at the coffee in his hands. “You said you were in the Army. When?”

“1915.” Walter said with a sigh after a long moment and David made a sound.

“World War One.” He said, “Yeah, you’ve seen some action alright. Is that when it happened?”

“No.” Walter said, “France, 1532.”

“1532.” David said and Walter nodded. “And here I am treatin’ you like a Junior. What was your name back then?”

“Charles Brandon.” He said and there was a pause.

“Charles Brandon. You know, Jess wrote a paper about you back in high school.”

“Yeah, I know, she won’t let me read it.” Walter said and David gave a small, quiet laugh.

“Do you love her?” David asked and Walter nodded.

“I do.”

“Because I know she loves you. I’ve never seen her look at anyone the way she looks at you. I take it she knows?”

“She does.” Walter said with a nod. “I really wish I could drink this coffee right now, this seems like a “coffee drinking” kind of conversation.”

“Don’t worry, I’ll drink enough for the both of us.”

“Now that that’s out in the open. What happens next?” Walter asked and David sighed.

“Well, that’s up to you, now isn’t it? I know, she knows, does anyone else?”

“My partner, Riley. He had a rather…rude awakening when we found Jess. He’s going to want to have a conversation a bit like this one.” Walter said.

“Well you better get to it, it’ll just get more difficult the more you put it off.”

“Mel and Jake, do they know about your buddy from the service?”

“No, I never told them.” David said, “And I won’t tell them about you, either. I’m going to leave that up to you if you decide to do it.”

“Appreciate it.”

“It’s not my place.” David said, “Well, you’ve been sitting here long enough and you have a conversation to get to. I call you when she wakes up.”

“Thank you.” Walter said and David just gave him a slow nod. Pushing the cup of coffee across the table, Walter stood and left the cafeteria, heading back up the elevator.
