Seems that not a lot of people know that Roderick Rules (animated) is already on Disney +
And I understand why
In my opinion; After the first half hour, the movie feels very long, but at least it picks up the pace at the end. I also think that, since Diary Of a Wimpy Kid has 15 books (and maybe more in the future) they should make a series, so they could cover each book in a better way, I don't know, I don't plan to read that many books

I haven't read "Thank You, Jeeves" yet so I should probably shut up, but "Sir Roderick Comes To Lunch" calls into question whether Jeeves truly has, or has ever had, a rule about not working for married gentlemen, like he says in "Thank You". It seems that in RODE, he acted when he learned that Honoria intended to fire him after she got married to Bertie. But if he had a rule about not working for married men, it wouldn't matter what Honoria thought of him, because he'd be out of the household anyway. It's almost like the actual rule Jeeves has is "I will do whatever it takes to keep Bertie for myself, and happy" (which means getting Bertie out of an engagement with a woman who makes him listen to her reading Ruskin and dislikes Jeeves, and also getting reunited with Bertie after Jeeves' brief stint with Chuffy).

Riots in the Square | Ciara & Godfrey
"My lady, we are to escort you back to your chambers immediately. You cannot be here."
"Why? Lord Calainon is expected here any moment ... " Ciara found that she now often met such requests with perhaps a tad more hostility than it warranted. She supposed that that was a direct result from her guilty conscious, which always suspected that this was the moment that her cousin had discovered that she had gotten herself involved in the resistance and, even though she had been his own secret informant, it would be apparent that not everything had been disclosed to him.
"-- It is for your own safety."
"What is happening?" She asked, again.
"Those are our orders."
After a silent march to her rooms and more unsuccessful attempt to gather any information, Ciara slipped from her rooms the moment she no longer heard them in the hall. From a distance, she trailed the guards and found that they and a great many others were rushing towards the walls and the main gate of the castle.
She went to the nearest window, and although she wasn't truly able to see anything from it, when she opened it she could hear the sounds of a large, rioting crowd, which must have been making it way towards the castle. In mere moments, the shouting turned to screams, followed by the unmistakable cries of grief, and then before Ciara could make it down to the courtyard, all had gone silent.
"My lady, you shouldn't be here."
Ciara turned -- this time it was Tristan who spoke to her. She shook her head defiantly when he tried to usher her away, "No, Tristan, I -- "
"-- Come, my brother will not be pleased if he finds I've allowed you to stay."
"He was on his way here! He may, even now, be on the other side of the wall." On the wrong side of the wall, she feared -- if anyone were to recognize him as a brother of the Queen. (Whatever was happening outside, she doubted that he would not be seen as the enemy). Given that the crowds had died down significantly, Ciara worried that if something had happened to him, it might be too late.
She could tell that Tristan suddenly shared in her fears and he moved with some urgency back towards the gates where he shouted orders to the guards.
Minutes later, the gates were opened and Godfrey passed through and Ciara felt herself breathe easy again as relief washed over her. She wasted no time in greeting him as soon as he dismounted from his horse.
"Are you alright? Are you hurt?" Ciara searched his face for any signs of injury, but all she found there was distress.
She took his hand and lead him to a more secluded part of the courtyard, as Percy led away his horse. It was not the first time that Ciara had noted the convenience of their relationship: she might have been his informant, but she was his fiancé, too, and no one batted an eye to see them tucked away whispering together. Even here, in the open, they may speak freely.
"Did you see what has happened? No one will tell me anything."

People misunderstood Dream when he kept refusing Roderick Burgess thinking it was out of selfish arrogance when truly it was pure selflessness in his intent that led him staying in that fucking fishbowl. To have gotten caught in the first place was a huge source of shame for Dream, so to be selfish enough to allow a man as cruel as Burgess such powerful gifts that he was demanding just to rectify a mistake that never should have happen would seem like an unworthy reason to spit upon the rules he abides by so strictly. It would be an embarrassment to become imprisoned and then shamelessly pursue his own well-being over the rules and traditions of their world. To put his safety and freedom over the possible repercussions he could bring by premising Burgess a chance to toy with death, power, or immortality (outside of what's being forcibly taken from him) which could for-see damages far worse than what rejecting him would cause. Couldn't imagine the laws and rules Morpheus would have to follow and what control Roderick would have if Dream were to trade his "freedom" for whatever he demanded. How much longer the effects would have lasted comparability to the sleeping sickness if Morpheus accepted? Dream refused Burgess because he knew his entrapment and subjugation wouldn't see as horrible consequences as allowing Burgess anywhere near the power the endless held would

Prompt #13:  Confluence
Tumblr media
Roderick’s breath hung in clouds about his face as he crept up the stairs.  An early blast of winter had come to Coerthas, dusting the normal fall foilage with a light sprinkling of snow.  In hindsight, he should have taken it as a warning, given the superstitious nature of the Ishgardian people.
Of all the bloody things to run afoul of, the godsdamned Ishgardian Inquisition!  Roderick’s business had been simple enough, he was one of the legion of scholars sent out and about to see what was going on with Sharlayan’s allies, and to bring any new and promising academic developments back to the city-state.  The trip had been going well enough, but the minute he’d entered Coerthas, it had all gone to the seven hells.  Roderick’s steps slowed as he came upon the jail’s main entrance.  If his timing was correct, the guard was out on patrol, he could recover his things and make a run for it.  A muttered incarnation made the thick wooden door and it’s hinges feather light, and Roderick put his hand on the latch.  His heart raced as he pulled the door open, stepping through the doorway.  Turning, he made to pull it shut...
Only to freeze as a silver ribbon of steel suddenly appeared at his neck.
“Don’t move.”
FuckfuckfuckFUCK.  Holding up his hands, Roderick glanced to the side.  A elezen with a rather pronounced nose was on his right side.  His black hair was messily pushed back, and his eyes were narrowed. The hand that gripped the sword-hilt was steady, and Roderick noticed that his armor was unmarked-silver with yellow trim.
"...Do you mind? I've a wife to get home to." If he died, Emma would never forgive him, not to mention probably perform necromancy on his corpse to pull his spirit back from the Lifestream so she could kill him herself.
"Your wife should have known she was a widow the day you wedded her, heretic." The elezen replied. Roderick couldn't help himself, he felt his temper snap.
"I'm not a fucking Dravanian! Would I have bothered to save your sorry arses if I were?! Would I have willingly come along to this den of crazies if I had the power to just blow everything up by just sneezing?!" He snarled. To his surprise, the elezen man's lips twitched.
"If I were more of a dutiful son to my city, I'd have your tongue for the 'crazies' remark. However, you've hit the mark." The sword removed itself from his neck, and Roderick let out a breath he hadn’t realized he'd been holding. The elezen resheathed the blade.
"Follow me." He ordered.
-------------------
"You have the bad luck of coming here during a chaotic time." The elezen said, leading Roderick and his chocobo through an underground tunnel. "There was an attempted assassination on the Archbishop. The conspirators are still at large, and as a result, everyone is on edge."
"Shite." Roderick cursed.
"My thoughts excatly." His rescuer came to a stop as they reached the tunnel's opening. Night had fallen, and the sky was clear. "Follow the river, and make a right at the confluence. The road will lead you straight to Gridania. Don't return, the Inquisition has your face now."
"Might I have a name to tender some sort of gratitude?" Roderick asked, swinging himself up onto the saddle. Shadow kewhed softly, bobbing his head.
"Edmont Fortemps. And the only gratitude needed is your body staying clear of the Witchdrop."

DC x DP Prompt: Maddie Kane
Disclaimer: I don't know a whole lot about the Kane family. This is mostly my own interpretation based on the wikis I hastily read.
Roderick and Betsy Kane had six children: Martha, Nathan, Philip, Jacob, Roderick Jr., and Madeline.
Now, Madeline was a surprise baby. Martha was already twenty-three and married to Thomas by the time her only sister was born, but that didn't stop her from showering the girl with love and affection. Thomas loved his little sister-in-law just as much, and the two practically raised her as their own. Under the undivided care and affection of Martha and Thomas, little Madeline grows up to be a willful, independent, free-thinking, intelligent girl who is very, very happy with her life at Wayne Manor.
Madeline and Martha's relationships with their brothers are... complicated, to say the least. Martha as a rule did not fully support the Kane Family's arms dealings, and so tried to distance herself (and subsequently Madeline) from them. The Kane boys didn't challenge this overmuch: they were, after all, hard military men and didn't have much interest in raising their sister who would surely just become another socialite married to one billionaire or another. (It's ironic, then, that Maddie would grow up to be the best weapons innovator the Kanes would ever produce, but such things happen.)
Madeline had just turned thirteen when Martha and Thomas had Bruce. Her little nephew was a long-awaited joy for the family, and she would sooner think of Bruce than the Kane boys when Maddie heard the word "brother".
This idea is only solidified when the Kanes, forced to acknowledge their sister after multiple high-society scandals, try to strong-arm her into attending a finishing school in England. (Maddie to this day does not regret hospitalizing Lionel Luthor. If he didn't want a broken fibula, then he shouldn't have gotten drunk at a Wayne Gala and tried to strike his son. The following press release was unfortunate, but the thank you card from Alexander was touching.) The Kanes are not successful in removing Madeline from Gotham, and after much back-and-forth, they give one final ultimatum: either go to England and return an "upstanding member of society," or Madeline would be officially cut off.
Madeline chooses the second option without much further thought, sure to tell her brothers to stuff it in as many ways as she can before she trashes the Kane Mansion for good measure.
Madeline, now almost exclusively going by "Maddie", thrives. She gets accepted into the University of Wisconsin, and so off she goes, with hugs and well-wishes from Martha, Thomas, and Bruce, who are staying in New Jersey.
Maddie is twenty-one when she gets the worst news of her life: Martha and Thomas are dead. She puts her studies on hold for a bit and flies back for the funeral, her research partner/best friend in the world/boyfriend Jack Fenton-Nightingale coming with her.
Not even a week after her sibling-parents are put in the ground, her brother Philip tries to swoop in and seize Wayne Industries for himself. Thankfully, though, Martha and Thomas's wills were very clear: Maddie is to manage the Waynes' estates until Bruce comes of age. So Maddie once more tells her brothers to fuck off, this time for good. Jack, muscled, glowering, and seven feet tall and still growing, makes good to stand silently in the background so the Kanes don't try to pull anything further.
As soon as she is able, Maddie sits Bruce down and they make arrangements. Maddie can't abandon her schooling forever, and Bruce's life has been upended enough; she doesn't want to make it worse by ripping him away from the only home he's ever known. So Maddie signs over custody to Alfred, and promises are made to visit every chance she gets.
Life moves on. Jack and Maddie get married and start Fenton Works. Bruce starts traveling abroad to "further his education of the world." Maddie and Jack have two kids. Jasmine Martha Fenton-Nightingale-Kane inherited the Kane signature fire-red hair, and Daniel James Fenton-Nightingale-Kane looks so much like Martha that it hurts. Bruce adopts a gaggle of children of his own. Bruce and Maddie like to send each other pictures to brag about their respective kids, and the Fenton-Nightingale-Kanes make sure to visit Gotham for at least one week every summer.
Maddie and Jack don't ask too many questions when Bruce hesitantly takes them aside and requests that they make a couple of custom-made, non-ghostly weapons for him. Of course they'd be happy to make him a few odds and ends every once in a while. Goodness knows how dangerous Gotham can be.
The Fenton-Nightingale-Kanes miss their summer trip for the first time ever when Danny comes to them and explains the whole "half-a-ghost-thing" and, well... Jack and Maddie spend the entire summer reeducating themselves about ghosts, working through years of biases, and ensuring that their son knows that they still love him of course we still love you, Danny, there isn't a thing in this world that could stop us from loving you. Dick Grayson is very understanding and assures them that Bruce wouldn't mind. (Dick is very happy to avoid telling Aunt Maddie and Uncle Jack about Bruce's death. Dick is even more happy when Tim finds proof that their dad was just lost in the timestream and not actually dead. That entire summer was very stressful for both sides of the family)
It isn't until Danny is seventeen and hesitantly makes contact with the Justice League that the Waynes learn about ghosts and the Fenton-Nightingale-Kanes learn about the vigilantism.
Maddie is so cross when she and the rest of the ghostly delegation walks into the Watchtower only to come face-to-face with her nephew/brother, and don't you try and deny that's you, Brucie, I have eyes. Who are you trying to fool, young man?
The rest of the Justice League has to awkwardly sit there as the Ghost King and his family have a full-on family reunion, with King Phantom taking the time to finally introduce his partners to his cousins, Princess Jasmine and Nightwing teaming up to try and talk Red Robin into dialing back on the caffeine intake, King Father Jack exchanging fudge recipes with Agent A, and Queen Mother Madeline chewing out Batman for being a reckless idiot and not telling her what he was using his gadgets for. ("If I knew that grappling hook would be actively used every night, I would have installed more safety features! We could've made it more durable! We would've had to put it through more rigorous testing before we deemed it field-ready!" "Why does that bother you now? Isn't your lab safety horrible?" "A private, indoor lab that less than ten people have access to is not the same as the streets of Gotham in every type of weather! Goddammit, Bruce, I swear--")

I find it fascinating that Venra gave almost everyone a choice in their death, even if they were all doomed from the beginning
She told Perry that it's all better in the moment just before you get everything you want and that he doesn't have to pull the sprinklers. He still makes the choice to turn them on
She told Camille that she doesn't have to go back there, she literally says that she could have killed her in her sleep. She still goes to collect evidence that no one will ever see
She tries to get Leo to buy a different cat, she shows him all of the other options that are suffering and need a home while the black cat already had offers and wasnt for sale to him. He still chose to buy the black cat
She keeps telling Vic that she's worried about the human trials, can she please get confirmation from Ruiz that this experiment is safe, are you sure you want to go through with this. She still chooses to use the mechanical heartbeat
She just keeps telling Tamerlane to get some rest, even after Tammy keeps falling asleep in the middle of conversations and cannot function. She still chooses to go through with Goldbug and attack the voices telling her to rest
She asked Roderick and Madeline if they were sure, from the very beginning asked what they were willing to give up for all of the fame that they could ever want, she gave them the ultimate choice as to their fate. They chose fame and fortune for a short life over a long one with less certainty of money
But she didn't give a choice to everyone
While all of the other children got a choice in how they died, Fredrick didn't. But that's because he had already made his choice. He chose over and over again to be vindictive and hateful, to be drunk on power. He was willing to let his wife suffer just to see what was in her phone and when that didn't work he decided to slowly poison her and finally when he ripped out her teeth, then Venra said "enough". He made his own bed without any input from Venra because she wasn't the one asking him if he was sure, it was Lenore. Lenore asked at every turn if her mom was safe, if she was seeing specialists, if they could go to a fancy facility that could keep her safe. Lenore just wants her mom to be okay, and Frederick decides to rip out Morrie's teeth in anger. So yeah, he made his fucking choice
Lenore didn't. She was the only Usher that was never given a warning about not tempting fate, and that's because she was the only Usher who cared about someone other than their own bottom line. Lenore was sweet, and kind, and wanted to make a difference, so Venra didn't need to ask her if she really wanted to tempt fate. No, she needed to make her comfortable with the inevitability of her end. That her kindness wasn't for nothing. That she didn't go out in a blaze of self destruction like the others. Because Lenore didn't tempt fate, she didn't throw around daddy's money to get everything she could have ever wanted, damn the consequences. No, she died because of a choice that someone else made for her before she was a thought un anyone's mind. She died because someone else didn't care about the consequences of their actions as long as they could be rich and famous in the here and now
Lenore didn't get a choice because neither did any of the victims of the Usher family's rule
They just died as after thoughts, collateral on the way to ultimate power

Johanna is a catpeople rights activist. So many humans treat them as their property and sex toys, but catpeople have feelings. Jo is appalled by this whole situation, and she does what she can to find foster homes and, eventually, new (good!) owners for catpeople in trouble. When she learns about catboy!Dream, it's an emergency. Dream attacked his owner, Roderick Burgess. Burgess was emotionally and physically abusive, but the law is not on Dream's side - if no one volunteers to take him in and work on his 'socialization,' he's about to be put down. They're already running out of time - since Burgess is severely injured (maybe he has his eyes clawed out?), it is ruled that Dream is highly dangerous and has only a few hours left to live. Johanna won't let anything happen to this traumatized catboy. Not on her watch! She already has a foster catgirl at home, Rachel, and she can't take another because Rachel needs much care and attention (they also might be heading somewhere romantically, so Jo doesn't want to fuck it up by bringing another catperson onto her territory), so Johanna asks her bff for a favor. Hob Gadling is well off financially, can take a vacation without notice because he is a business owner, and he's naturally friendly. Also, he lives alone - no human or cat partner in the picture. He's not very delighted with the prospect of taking Dream in at first, but Johanna really insists. So they come to pick Dream up and see him in a dire condition: bruised, injured, and malnourished, he hisses at everyone who even tries to come close to his cage. A cage?? Hob has never been involved with catpeople before, and activism has been entirely Johanna's shtick, but he quickly realizes how blind he's been. Hob organizes the best medical care for him, orders all the decent books on catpeople to educate himself, and buys all the stuff Dream might need. Dream is stunning and very clever, and his previous owner obviously was a sadistic prick. Hob wishes he could claw the fucker's eyes out himself when he sees the extent of Dream's injuries and starvation. Dream is very tense and afraid at first, but as time goes by, and Hob treats him like a person, he starts to hope that maybe he's found not only his forever home but also someone to love him this time.
New catperson owner Hob treating Dream just like he's a person - a person who deserves respect, personal space and love!!! When he goes to buy new catperson stuff for Dream, he's kind of disgusted by the fact that it's all spiked collars and wet food. Hob hates it. He walks right out the store and just goes to the normal shop instead. He gets nice comfy clothes, bedding, proper food with lots of protein. He organises a proper bathing and toileting situation for Dream in his own bathroom which Hob only goes inside to clean. Just decent stuff that any sentient being deserves.
Dream doesn't know what to make of it at first. He's gone from being moments away from being euthanized, to being allowed to just kinda... do what he wants?? He has privacy, good food, healthcare, and very pleasant company in the form of Hob. Because Hob is so kind. He takes care of Dream’s injuries and nurses him through the initial stages of refeeding. He lets Dream snuggle up to him under 3 blankets because he's so cold, still shivering sometimes. He never makes Dream do anything (except take his medication, which is very important), but he doesn't ignore him either. Dream has to wonder - is this what it's like to have a friend?
Dream recovers slowly, but he does gradually start to thrive. He wears comfy shorts and big hoodies, and takes long naps in the sun that pours through the window in the bedroom every morning. He eats fresh food that Hob gets at the market every day. He's finally learned to read! Sometimes he feels like he must have died and gone to heaven. But then the dog next door barks at him and reminds him that life is not quite perfect - but almost.
His relationship with Hob evolves slowly. They share a bed and cuddle up every night (Hob tolerates Dream’s 3am zoomies pretty well by now - they now have a treadmill for that exact purpose). Dream is also generally naked in bed, which has lead to one or two moments. The mutual attraction is undeniable. Hob just doesn't want to take advantage...
Luckily Dream is prepared to make the first move. He's a person, and that means that he's capable of choosing a life partner. It just so happens that he's choosing Hob. He's going to need some practice with kissing (he's not quite sure whether or not he's meant to bite?) but he's sure that Hob will be patient with him. He has been so far. And to Dream, that patience feels a lot like love.
