Gilmore Girls: Four Years Later - A new life

(Who knows if people read fan fiction anymore but I was inspired, enjoy!)

clunk, clunk, clunk.

The shutters Lorelai had convinced Rory to leave on the windows of her house, banged against the glass and it was the only thing that could wake her from sleep at 5:30 in the morning on a Saturday.

Without pause, she jumped out of bed and slid down the hallway to the window, cursing it, opening it, cursing it again and sighing happily. Her daughter, Lorelai - affectionately called Em, would wake up to the slightest sound and as soon as she was awake, the four year old never stopped. Accepting the fact that she probably wouldn’t get anymore sleep before her daughter awoke, Rory tiptoed down the long hall between her kitchen and living room, and found what she needed - coffee. a daughter like Em, especially the daughter of Rory, or the granddaughter of lorelai, woke up to the sound of the coffee maker or the smell of coffee that wafted through the house as it was made and when she was two, Rory had found a workaround - instant coffee. It was flavorless and yet somehow burnt tasting, but it gave her a familiar feeling of peace.

She pulled down the handmade ceramic cup that said ‘MOM’ on the side that Em (more like her mom and Luke) had gifted her with her daughter’s handprint on the back on her first mother’s day. she filled the cup with water and poured in the instant coffee mixture, and drank it quickly. motherhood had done some things to rory, as it did to any other person giving birth - she now slept in, and no longer traveled. With her mother and step father encouraging her to do whatever she wanted, rory had settled on a simple two bedroom house in Stars Hollow that had been owned by the same person their entire life.

That’s the only decision she did regret.

The updates and cheap mortgage weren’t worth it, when sometimes her water was brown. At least her daughter was experiencing the best parts of her life in Rory‘s favorite place.

One cup of coffee turned to two as rory settled into a chair at the kitchen table, opening the laptop she left there. Only two years ago she had released Gilmore Girls - and it was a hit. It was her pride and joy. The office portion of her bedroom was covered in printed internet articles from luke with rave reviews for the book and with copies stacked on the desk. Her goal was to write more but life got in the way. The high of gilmore girls wore off, but she still wanted to turn lemons into lemonade and take care of her daughter. Like the Yale Daily News, she was able to do something with the Stars Hollow Gazette - adding on digital pieces and expanding within just two years of taking over. Despite all of that, every few months she got the same email from her publisher ‘we are all ready for the second book! take a break from the paper and come have a meeting with me soon. :) thanks, Harlan.’ sometimes she answered with ‘i’m not ready.’ and other times, like now, she stared at the email, wondering if she should respond. If she should have written a second book by now.

Two hours somehow passed as Rory answered, deleted and then rewrote her response, but she was interrupted from her trance-like state, by her auburn haired, freckle faced, 4 year old daughter. ‘Mommy.’ she said, her tiny voice surprising rory, who in turn closed her laptop.

‘Good morning, Em.’ Rory smiled, pulling the little girl into her lap, and breathing in the sweet smell of her hair.

‘I want to go to Grandpa and Roralie’s.’ The little girl said, kissing her mother and running across the house to her bedroom. Her daughter was a great surprise, but it wasn’t always this easy, or efficient. Three months into pregnancy Rory had a breakdown - what if she couldn’t handle anything? That’s when she read the parenting books - the ones Lane gave her, the ones she found at the local book store, the ones Paris and Jess gave her. It was never ending. Unlike a test though, she never felt prepared. Despite hours of studying and learning all she could, she didn’t feel ready. At the three month mark, it didn’t improve, though. Emily was outraged that rory wouldn’t tell her the identity of Em’s father - and refused to speak to her for three more months. Lorelai knew the truth despite what Rory wanted. She promised to reveal to no one that Em was Logan’s. Luke promised not to tell anyone, though what he said exactly was ‘who’s going to ask me?’. Logan was married now, living in the south of france and married to a beautiful model with two babies of his own on the way - that stung a bit when Rory thought about it.

Finishing her coffee, Rory made her way to the end of the hallway just in time to see Em, wearing a grateful dead t-shirt, coupled with a bright purple skirt and bright green tights.

‘How do I look?’ Em asked, spinning in a circle. ‘I think Roralie will love it!’ She smiled, trailing behind her mother, who quickly changed in her own bedroom.

The little girl continued to spin in circles until she was finally buckled into her car seat. One of the best parts of Stars hollow was the quiet morning as they drove to Luke’s with no traffic other than parents taking their children to school. When they finally arrived, Em was almost out of her car seat and the car itself as Rory parked. She ran across the street, auburn curls bobbing at the back of her neck, and opened the restaurants door.

‘Grandpa!’ She immediately shouted, running through the tables and behind the counter, out of sight. Being a grandfather was the job Luke was born for - gleefully telling everyone about Em, and sharing photos when they would let him. Lorelai was excited in the same way, but less excited to be called Grandma. Though she adored spending everyday she could with the little girl, she would stand in front of her and say ‘My name is Lorelai. You can call me Lorelai, kid!’ and then two year old Em looked up at her, smiling, and repeated ‘Roralie!’ which stuck.

The restaurant smelled of coffee as Rory entered, seeing the little girl seated on the counter next to Luke as he rang up an order.

‘Real coffee.’ Rory smiled, sitting in a chair at the counter and pulling over the fresh cup Luke poured for her as soon as her daughter entered the store.

‘You have to stop drinking instant coffee. That is even worse for you than this!’ Luke droned, not phasing Rory, who sucked down the cups entire contents.

Hearthstone Tournament (IC Horde side)

Midsummer Night’s Revelry is an upcoming server-wide Horde-side RP event, on Wyrmrest Accord server, from July21st-23rd. Opening ceremonies will begin at 6:00pm server time (PDT). Location will be Mar'at, Uldum.

The Hearthstone tournament will be on the 22nd, and sign-ups for the tournament will be from now until the end of the day before the actual tournament event.

If the party wears/wore perfume or cologne, what scent? Do they wear any at all?

Bettany: Um. I can't wear cologne. My nose is too sensitive. I asked Rorali what I smell like and she said I smell like mud and mulch with a hint of... garden? so uh... yeah I guess that's what I smell like.

Rorali: I use only the best perfumes. The ones with the little roller ball applicators? Oh. Maybe you don't know, peasant. Lmao but I love floral scents. I think most of where I get my wonderful smell from is all my body wash, hair products, and skin care products.

Yvan: I pride myself on how good I smell. <3 incense, woody, and spicy ;) A lot of the good colognes I buy are from outside Barovia. I think the modern day equivalent of my favorite would be from "Hermes." It's called "Elixir des Merveilles Eau de parfum", and it's described as "A soft candied orange mush wrapped in chocolate with ambergris woody notes, warm resins and balms emphasizing its generosity and sensuality. Olfactory emotion: Warm, Sensual. Main raw materials: Candied orange, Benzoin, Patchouli." The notes on Fragrantica are amber, woody, balsamic, citrus, sweet, caramel, warm spicy, and vanilla.

Constantin: You are wanting to know what I smell like?? Okay... strange.. I do not wear the colognes or... the parfumes or whatever you call that junk. Usually I am in deep woods of Barovia so the cedar, pine or woodsy scents tend to find themselves clung to the chainmails. Sometimes when exploring the many flowers of Barovian landscape, those scents will also stay.

Thalassia: Oh! Another question? You want to know if I like smelly things? Yes! I wish I could smell like mint all the time! Though I asked some of my friends what I smell like and they said a mix of moss, sandalwood and that... my blood kinda smells like the ocean? I can't usually smell myself too good. So, I gotta trust what they say!

Tyyran: *fog horn plays* LMAO but no, I don't wear cologne or perfume. However, after a good shower or a bath my favorite smells are flowery things! Specifically roses. Though, when I do get ranky I like to find some purple sage and rub it under my scales. The smell is very calming.
