you’ve probably gotten a lot of asks like this, but I just haven’t seen any posted. what are your feelings on the remake, if you are watching it? more specifically, what do you think was the biggest problem with it?

i rlly havent actually! i think it's bc im really trying to Pretend I Do Not See It. rn i'm fighting TOOTH AND NAIL against the temptation to hatewatch because i do not need that in my life lmao.

the thing i cannot get over with is how Cheap it looks, it rlly smells of poor rushed workers to me, despite the astronomical budget that went into it. 15 MIL!!??? same as the late seasons of game of thrones!! now i'm not saying GoT is a pinnacle of virtue but it featured: a really good burn scar make up that took up half a character's face, a really good Notorious white hair wig with intricate hairstyles, really good costumes and heavy winter furs, really good location and fantasy beasts cgi and ummmmmmm from what i've seen of natla well. it had nothing of the sort. it's just bad gary it's uglyy

I’m a little confused at the idea that NATLA Zuko is somehow less bad than he was in the original… honestly I think the only real difference is that NATLA is far less subtle and spoon feeds the audience information rather than taking the time to show it.

Book 1 Zuko in the cartoon had just as much heart and moral conflict. The cartoon just did a much more effective job at working that aspect of his character into the plot in subtle ways.

Btw, screw Hahn. I think this is an excellent example of villains that keep you interested (Sifu Hotpants Zukes) vs annoying ones you jusr want to disappear off the face of earth (Hahn).

On a moral scale, Hahn while an asshole and an overall PITA to be around (classist, misogynistic, bratty) is not comparable to Zuko who is trying to catch the world's last hope and working for an evil super powered genocidal empire 🙃, BUT Hahn's cardinal sin is how boring and vain he is + his brand of evil feels more relatable for us viewers and he has no sob story to justify his actions, I guess.

I really feel for poor Sokka having had to work with that moron.

Don't get him wrong he loves his people and the culture but after seeing the whole world he understands that he will never feel safe in his own nation. When everything feels like a jab towards him. With all eyes looking at him.

So when Izumi turns 35 and after ten years of being his right hand.

AND learning that his lovable best friend/ambassador/the love of his life is going to become Chief he realizes the Southern water tribe may need a fire nation Ambassador and who is better than the former fire lord. So Zuko resigns and follows his heart to wherever he pleases with his trusty companion Druk.

Besides someone needs to help the Chief of the Southern water tribe the same way he was helped by his water tribe ambassador. And who knows maybe after not having the weight of the world in his shoulders he may finally confess

The ground trembled as the great iron ship plowed through the ice and knocked down Sokka’s watch tower. The ramp dropped and intimating Fire Nation soldiers with their skull faces made their way down. They were led by a fierce maskless solider with a large angry scar that took up nearly half of his face.

Sokka bravely stood his ground with his weapons drawn. He lets out a battle cry as he charged toward them. Katara winced as he was kicked off the side of the ramp. Sokka got up quickly and charged again but was intercepted by the accompanying Fire Nation soldiers. While Sokka fought them, the scarred solider continued his march towards the women and children huddled in front of the village. Katara braced herself and stood protectively in front of them.

“Stop.” She spoke boldly in the common language. “We have no business with you. Turn and leave now.”
