Found Family in Star Wars

What I really love about Star Wars is how much of the fandom is fully into the found family trope.

Like, lots of people may complain that Din and Grogu is the most generic trope that Disney could have gone for, but that’s how it always was. How a lot of the fandom truly sees Star Wars for.

Aliit ori'shya tal'din – «Family is more than blood».

The Vode. The biggest family you could have asked for. Thousands of overprotective for each other brothers, who are ready to make anything possible for each other. Waxer and Boil almost adopting Numa (yes please). The Bad Batch that are literally five older brothers taking care of one little sister.

True Mandalorians. Like Jaster Mereel, Kal Skirata, young Jango, Walon Wau, Mij Gilamar, Vhonte Tervho – all of them stay true to Resol'nare, be it an au with no Kamino or with it. You get 1 True Mandalorian within a radius of child in distress and now you have an angry buir ready to kill. It is literally in the marriage vows – We will raise warriors.

The Jedi Order. They have their flaws (who does not?) but they are one huge dysfunctional family. From Crèche masters, Knights, Masters, Guardians, Younglings and Padawans. They protect their own. You can say anything about «no attachment rule» but I feel like having an amazing lineage with lots of padawan-siblings, masters, uncle/aunt-masters, grandmasters that ground you must be an amazing feeling. We do know that the Jedi still fail their own in lots of ways, but like if there were no Sith and they were living not in the middle of the Republic imagine how more peaceful and truer to the code their lives would be?

The Corps. We don’t get a lot of information about them but I adore everyone who writes, shares headcanons, draws them. They are still Jedi, though they have different specializations. They give aged out younglings new purpose and they stay true to the Force. To be honest, since the Corps do not live on Coruscant I believe before 66 they were definitely even more attuned to the Force then the Order (cause again, one annoying Sheev)

The Ghost Crew. Do I even need to say anything? They are an amazing family that pulled through a lot of obstacles (and sadly losses). They all lost something even before getting together but staying together was their biggest strength.

The Opress brothers. Even though we did not get a lot of Feral in TCW we got enough of Maul and Savage. Even with all of the evilness and full sith-crazy mode they were brothers till the end. If it was not for Dooku and Sidious (and well mother Talzin and nightsisters) they would be still together and be strong.

The Original Skywalker/Solo family. Han’s and Luke’s brotherhood even before romance with Leia started. Leia and Luke bonding even before they knew they were blood family. Chewie protecting his family, even the Droids like C3PO and R2.

And the list goes on. I probably missed out on a lot of families so if you want to add some to the list – do reblog/comment!

In the end I just want to say that even though a lot of people say that our fandom is one of the most toxic ones I still adore everyone who spends their time writing, drawing, doing cosplay – literally anything fandom related. Even if you don’t create and just read – supporting creators makes all of this worth it.

Please, continue creating more stories about any characters, any family, anything that you love in this fandom. There always will be people who will appreciate anything you do to help our fandom thrive.

“Oh shit, dude look…” “No way that’s Jabba…” “Look at all the stormtroopers…” “Look how tall that guy is!”

“It’s already starting to smell funky in here.” “Just try and breathe through your mouth when you need it.”

Two loud claps stopped your group's ramblings, everyone paying attention to the source of the noise.

Steve stood a step away from you, hands on his hips as he faced everyone. You and Max are in the front, her arms linked around your bicep. Both of you dressed in Leia cosplay, you in her New Hope all-white dress while Max went in her forest look from the battle on Endor. The boys were huddled in the back, heads turning every now and again to take in more of the scenery. Lucas decked out in Lando’s finest clothing, Will sporting the simple outfit of Luke from Empire Strikes Back final scene. Mike and Dustin’s outfits weren’t the best for the packed building, well, Mike was dressed in traffic cone orange so at least you know he won’t blend easily. Dustin had a Halloween Chewbacca costume, probably starting to sweat under the fur. Now with Dustin as Chewbacca, it was obvious who he had to be since he was always showing off his impression, there was just one more person needed to complete the duo.

“You’re so whipped, dude. I thought your dignity would win out.” Dustin teased in Steve’s direction as he wore the famous dark blue vest with the blaster holder strapped to his waist.

Steve’s only reaction to the comment was a roll of his eyes before he focused on the task at hand.

“Okay, we’re gonna try and stick together. If you want to split up, tell me or (Y/n) before you go running off, and make sure it’s in pairs and that one of you has a walkie. Now it’s only,” he flicked his left wrist to look at his watch, a new one you bought him, “it’s only ten-thirty. So around twelve or twelve-thirty we can head to the food court and get lunch. Everyone good with the plans?” He waited for any objections.

“Can we split up already?” Mike’s hand shot up from the back.

Steve sighed, “why?”

“‘Cause, it looks lame when we’re in this big group.” He huffed.

Steve moved back to your side, still staring down Mike, “hey, be grateful you’re even here. I don’t hear any thank yous.”

“Thank you, (Y/n),” everyone said your way, with different levels of enthusiasm.

“You’re very welcome.” You turned to Steve, “let’s just let them roam on their own if they want. We’ll just slow them down. Plus I want to spend alone time with the dashing Han Solo.” Flirting shamelessly in front of the children, as Dustin stated on the ride to the convention.

There was a gagging noise, from one of the boys or Max, who removed her hold on you and slipped away. You took as your opportunity to follow in her actions and looped your arms along Steve’s left bicep.

“Alright, you can go on your own. In a group,” he reminded them before they ran off.

You chuckled as they all scampered off, enjoying their freedom, “look at our young rebellion.”

Steve sighed, “you say that like they’re our own children. And I would only take five out of the six kids.”

You both automatically gave each other knowing looks, “no Mike.” “leave Mike.” You both said together, giggles rumbling through your chest.

“Well, Princess,” Steve turned away from where the kids disappeared to and fully stood in front of you, doing the mocking royal gesture of putting one arm behind his back while he held the other out for you, “why don’t you show me around and blow me away with your knowledge since you know I’ve fallen asleep a few times.”

“Well, Mr. Solo,” hand falling into his as if it was second nature, “it would be my pleasure. But I could blow you away in other methods.” You made sure he heard the teasing in your tone.

He leaned his mouth close to your ear, “oh I know sweetheart, but maybe another time. Let’s keep it pg, we have too many children anyway.” And he pulled away with a kiss to the shell of your ear, a shiver running up your spine at hyper-speed.

To my most recent cosplay: 2023, Hera Syndulla.

The Star Wars fandom has been such a welcoming place and through all the media produced, I am constantly in awe of how expansive this universe is and the stories told from it. It has shown me love, heartbreak, sacrifice, and most of all: Hope.

I cant wait to see what this year has to show for Star Wars. May the 4th be with you!

Sorry this is going to be a loooooong post

The story starts with Dr. Elliot Sparrow, a neuroscientist and physician who joins a crew of astronauts on a mission to a wormhole located just outside of Mars' orbit. Robotic probes have reported troves of alien lifeforms inside, and their job is to discover and interact with them.

While on a routine yet solo EVA, Elliot becomes the sole survivor of his crew when a mysterious and terrifying ship crashes into his own, disabling the life support systems of the ship and leaving the rest of his crew to suffocate in the unpressurized space. His suit is the only thing protecting him - but it does him no good as the crumbling ship is boarded by hostile aliens, and he is quickly captured and taken prisoner.

A bit of a mishap occurs whilst being transferred to the prison, though - in an attempt to intimidate and "soften up" Elliot, one of the alien guards beats him into an almost-pulp - only for Elliot to lash back out at the last second, grabbing the guard's forehead with his hands and squeezing.

It's then when a mass of blood-red tendrils that resemble wicked lightning bolts (or. you know. veins) gush out of Elliot's hands and seep into the guard's head, causing him to scream and release Elliot. Dazed, the other guards do absolutely jackall for about five seconds as this guard screams "they're all around me - help me!" before knocking Elliot clean out and dropping him unceremoniously into a pit full of other alien prisoners.

Upon waking, he is quickly taken in by a lifeform who eagerly introduces himself as "B-34A8919." Elliot, a bit of a wiseass (and possibly concussed), tells him "that's not a name," and elects to call him "Beau" instead. Beau happily agrees, and shows him about the whole place. "This is where the good toilets are" "This is where the mess hall is" "This is Bob. Bob doesn't like anyone. Stay away from Bob" etc etc. Elliot is like "well that's cool and all but how about we escape from here" and Beau is like "NOOOOO OMG WE CAN'T DO TH okay fine what's your plan" and Elliot's like "okay. I cause a distraction with, I dunno, Bob and the whole prison starts rioting. We escape then" and Beau's like "okay cool that sounds cool wait has that hole in the wall always been there or is that just m-" and the prison immediately erupts in a clamor about the newly formed tunnel in the wall, and the Guards immediately swarm the place but whammo Beau and Elliot are already through the tunnel.

As it turns out, the whole prison is under attack by some kind of resistance force that is warring against the hostile forces that captured both Beau and Elliot. So they're kind of blowing holes in the whole godtdamn prison and making quite a ruckus. Meanwhile, our heroes find themselves scavenging amongst Collections looking for some clothes and some kind of ship to escape with. That is where Elliot comes across his stupid ranger coat and dystopian Chanel boots and Beau finds himself a Frodo Baggins Cosplay and a magic sword. Together they escape on a derelict space garbage can of a ship and blammo they're out of there.

They jump to hyperspace or whatever Star Wars bullshit terms are and dodge the fuck outta harm's way when they realize "wtf who put this bird in here" and Beau starts swinging his sword at it like a maniac and the bird is like "DUDE CHILL THE F OUT I'M A BIRD" and Elliot's like "but what if you're a spy" and she's like "well if I was a spy could I do this" and she turns into a lady and Elliot and Beau are like "okay that's cool but yeah I think a spy would do that actually" and she's like "fair point well seeya I guess" and jumps out the airlock into space and.... no, no, I dunno, I'm still workshopping that interaction. We'll pass that one on to the committee.

So they take in bird lady. Who's a crow lady on technicality. Her name is Bryony and her backstory is a bit weird, so I'm not going to get into it right now, but yeah. She's also a victim of the evil alien forces. But anyways... they proceed to have wacky space adventures and adopt a giant sparkledog named Lacey that Elliot uses as an Emotional Support Animal because oh my god I completely forgot a really big plot point about his powers. Holy shit. Let me explain that one.

So Elliot confesses to the others that he has suffered from long-term psychosis (yay projection) and things have recently gotten worse for him. But then he remarks that "those things that the guard that restrained me felt - I felt them too, while in an episode once" and he posits that by going through the wormhole, he has gained Special Powers(TM) based on his psychosis that allow him to make others experience what he's experiencing in a psychotic episode.

Beau is immediately like "WHOA THAT SOUNDS COOL DO ME DO ME" and Elliot's like "I'm not going to do you" and Beau is like "Wait what" and Elliot's like "Wait what" and Bryony's like "oh my fucking god" and yeah. Yeah

Anyways. Wacky space adventures. They take down the evil alien hostile forces that Beau happens to come from HOLY SHIT I FORGOT ANOTHER IMPORTANT PLOT POINT so. Beau's family is in charge of the evil alien forces that have been ruining everything across the universe. To quote my exasperated fiance (to whom I've been reading this all out loud to), "They're Christopher Columbus-ing the universe." Yeah.

I should. Probably write this down in a google doc or something. Keep my notes in order. Anyways

I feel the conflict within you...

I really don’t know how to feel about the Kenobi show.

*Spoilers*

At its best it was great - the Prequels callbacks and integration of Star Wars Rebels were my favourites and it was a joy to see Ewan and Hayden back and enjoying their roles esp after all the negativity they got at the time (sadly I wasn’t a massive fan of everything in the Prequels myself, but I’m loving seeing them back.)

But frankly I felt it made little sense, had little point and tampered too greatly with the set-up for the OT. And don’t get me started on the amount of times characters had to hold the Idiot Ball or the terrible dialogue! I feel really ungrateful saying this as we are lucky to get what we did but I just feel so confused by the way it was put together. The number of times Vader just let Obi Wan go literally to serve the plot, the fact they couldn’t find a dude dressed exactly like a Jedi (cloak and everything) and he was able to hide Leia *under his cloak* in a top security military base it just seemed ludicrous. Empire’s hunting him/it’s letting him go/nope it’s def hunting him/no it’s letting him escape...Vader’s obsessed with him/no he’s letting a minion confront him/no he’s killing him!/nah he’s just gonna stare at him as he gets saved. And BOTH of them do the Bond Villain fail of walking away when they MUST KNOW the other is alive due to the Force?!

Also what was Kingo from the Eternals doing there? Totally took me out, he was awful. It felt like the MCU ffs! He was playing the character exactly the same.

And the dialogue - ugh. “YOu SHouLd HaVE KILLed ME ....WheN yoU HAd tHE cHanCE!”

“Goodbye...Darth...” His Sith name is Vader, you muppet! Darth is a title, you know that, you fought the bloody Sith. Oh someone Force Lightning me already!

Luke and Leia...hmm I just feel this was cute but it wasn’t good enough to mess with the OT the way it did and frankly it took some of the mystique off of Leia. There’s this thing with prequels and worldbuilding (I know I’m a writer) where you feel drawn to develop threads and fill in character by creating foundations for things in your initial narrative, but there’s also a thing with over-milked series when they want to explain every damn thing and tie it neatly in bow (same issue with Solo) and I feel this is the latter.

It also didn’t fill in two major plotholes it really could have done -Vader telling Luke Obi Wan once thought as he did aka that Obi Wan thought Vader could be turned back to the Light and Leia’s memory of Padme.

Given what we got and what we could have gotten, would you have preferred this or Obi Wan learning Anakin is alive and trying to redeem him, maybe against Qui Gon’s wishes (call back to Luke and Yoda in Empire and yes I would have brought Qui Gon back alot sooner) and have Anakin reject him, maybe with Palpatine laughing in the background. We could have Leia seeing Padme in Obi Wan’s mind (or recalling Force visions of Padme while she was in the womb - I really wanted to see Padme back for a moment!) This could have been a real test of Vader as well as of Obi Wan as the series hinted at the end with Palpatine. I feel it was a real missed opportunity and in some ways the most elaborate cosplay exercise. I don’t feel it really had much to say overall aside a Sequels-esque ‘realistic’ view of Kenobi’s PTSD. Okay fine but it could have been done better and more in line with the Star wards feel.

And that’s it...yet again this series doesn’t feel like Star Wars. The music or lack of it made a big difference but really it’s the same reoccurring problem - the execs don’t understand the mythic base and how to grow something new out of it. Episodes of Clone Wars and The Mandalorian have come closest to this but they are still lacking the heart of what made the OT so magical. They really need to go back to the Jungian psychology underpinning the story - that the core, not the ‘used galaxy’ look, western/samurai feel or meme call backs.

Anyway I liked aspects of it, I’m grateful we have it but I do feel it was another missed opportunity with some bizarre choices. What do you think?

Starting return of the Jedi now. I was gonna say something about Han being like Rapunzels boyfriend but not only from Tangled, from the original stories or more like Thorne from the lunar chronicles and then Han is literally blind at the start of this movie? I doubt it but if he’s blind in the desert I’m gonna lose it. They are the same character. They just got to the monster pit. In the desert. It HAS to be intentional. Also I hate slave Leia :( I know that’s the point but I also know people love and cosplay this version of her it skeeves me out. They love the Wilhelm scream in these movies like A Lot. Did they just kill Boba Fett? He dies here?? Leia killed Jabba as she should I love her she’s my idol. I hate that Kylo Ren of all things is what breaks up this main trio they’re so perfect and happy 😔. Yoda trying to avoid telling Luke who Vader or Leia are by being like Wow I’m So Tired and Old and then dying. Messy bitch he is. Obi Wan being like “well when anakin turned into Vader, anakin Technically died so I didn’t lie at all” bitch?? They’re both so messy. - 🤍

omg okay i watched return of the jedi on may the fourth and i realized it is literally one of my favorite star wars movies like it’s so…. the locations the fights the plot the ewoks c3po saying it’s against his protocol to impersonate a deity it’s perfect i love it!!! and the entire time they’re on tatooine!!!! luke ‘i was born here ya know’ skywalker and han ‘you’re gonna die here too. convenient’ solo are my best friends.

and you are SO right with the rapunzel boyfriend thing omg i never thought of that!!!! i also hate the slave leia storyline but she does get to fucking strangle jabba with her chains which was pretty hashtag girlboss of her so i have to cheer ya know?

THE WILHELM SCREAMS. THERE ARE SO MANY IN THIS MOVIE. FOR WHAT. i was dying when i watched it cause i used a wilhelm scream in a sound design i did in high school lmao 💀💀💀

We decided this person or creature we sighted him it is Mr Parker Ray parks that is and not Mr Parker and he was actually tell me if not Tommy Allen and he's known to be running the museum. And he is evil as you can see and he's also asking for things for nothing no you see how it works he's forcing them into it and we think it was out there at the pond racing area and he was raising and going very fast and we did see why earlier today became racing by the laundromat in order to see what our son was doing now he wants to see if he could go in there very fast to sabotage the place and to escape so he went by very fast to see if anybody would pay attention he's going to try a second run and he got blocked and he went by in about 120 and on a motorcycle and it's special motorcycle and he had hard gear on and we missed it and he has a computer to calculate telemetry so we need to watch out for that

My side of the story is the imitated me and it's to push something and I went out there on the motorcycle to threaten them not to do it again and he says that I'm dumb as a dope addict and enthusing them and enticing them more and I do see that and I do see what I'm saying but that's probably what it really is

Part of my Kylux 30 Day (lol) OTP Challenge.

Two things - one, i know this comes approximately an eternity later, and i apologise (30 day challenge, more like 30 year am i right). Two, I’m aware that that’s not the prompt, but I’ve made the unilateral decision to reorder/revise the prompts for this challenge because I have a story I want to tell, and by the Force, I’m going to tell it!

@reikennex is not only a fantastic cosplayer, but she’s also doing all she can to avoid spoilers for TROS, including not watching the most recent trailer for the film.

I’m fully supportive of that approach and don’t begrudge anyone who chooses to go into the movie with as clean a palette as possible... however, I do watch the trailers and like to see the marketing campaign for most films. Where I draw the line is with the TV spots that air within the last few weeks. Those, in my opinion, are the real danger zone, as was proven with The Last Jedi.

All that is to say, I respect anyone who wants to avoid spoilers and I have almost never posted anything that isn’t 100% official marketing/promo materials, but if you want to avoid all of those, this countdown is no place for you, so steer clear!

Hey all! I know I don't use this account much. I'm much more active on my Facebook and Instagram: @spacelioncosplay

But I couldn't resist wanting to share to all the composition photos from my Star Wars Celebration shoot as well as some in progress shots and credits for the friends that helped and supported me along the way. Soon I am going to create a BIG HUGE write up PDF booklet that details all the materials I used as well as a very in depth explanation of the whole process of each step along the way. But that will likely be after Dragoncon.

In addition to learning a lot during this build, I was able to support some awesome friends and make a few new ones along the way. They helped me a ton by assisting in printing and sending me raw 3d prints as well as letting me use some truly stellar files to print. I'm ever so grateful and certain this costume wouldn't have happened without their support.
