I degrade
Dissolve
Shed the rags of this civilized body
By splintered bones
And morphing skin
I take a true savage form
But she is rabid
Famished
Feral to tongue the blood beneath the skin

Demme updates Holly Golightly (She's Audrey, she's Lulu) in an 80s road movie that boasts cameos from two indie-god Johns, soundtrack consultation by NY hipster luminaries Cale & Byrne & Anderson, numerous nods to the Corman stable, a knowing familiarity with roadside America, and feelgood elements that have only been burnished over time. Given their subsequent work, the two leads can be somewhat off-putting, but Griffith & Daniels disappear into character here, and it's a joy to view the scenes which do nothing to advance the plot (and would immediately be chopped today) but reveal the substance of their mutual attraction.
