YES to a degree!! He's not as knowledgeable as, say, Pammy. No one is, she's literally part plant.

But he knows what he needs to in order to grow the plants he needs to feed his darling caterpillars! 🥰 And I do think it really is something he enjoys!

I like to think in his yard he has a more casual garden that he maintains for Not Mutant moths and butterflies. A place he can admire them outside of the lab, and where Kitten can run around and play! Pam definitely helped him with it, she gave him a lot of good gardening tips once they became friends.

🤔 THINKING FACE — what are some of your character’s quirks/mannerisms?

Type of guy who needs to pace around when he’s thinking or infodumping for sure. I feel like when he emotes sometimes, he almost tends to come off as a bit exaggerated? When he’s higher energy at least.

Post-mothening is fun because then he got a bunch of mannerisms from being part moth. Occasionally stopping to clean his antennas, the way they shift and twitch when he’s inspecting someone or something. Vibrating to adjust his body temperature or even just agitated. His wings unfolding and being on full display as a threat display, even involuntarily, when he’s threatened or afraid. There’s so many good ones.

Though I just thought, it would be fun if he kind of had equivalent mannerisms pre-mothening. Running his fingers through his hair instead of grooming his antenna, intense leg bouncing when he’s annoyed…

😞 DISAPPOINTED FACE — does your character attract others, or do they tend to be left alone?

Hmm… I feel like he’s more of the kind who tends to be left alone, usually being the one to gravitate towards others.

As a kid of course, there was The Bullying and people trying to be around him to make him their pet freak and the like. 😭 The weird bug kid who’s easy to get on the nerves of and humiliate. 😞

Once he’s older, he’s always the one reaching out to others (ironically with the exceptions of Poison Ivy, Penguin, and Scarecrow. They all found him first!!), particularly as Killer Moth trying to get people to hire him. You know what they say about moths and flames. He’s the one who’s always gotta put himself out there and make himself known, which I think works for him, since he’s so about making a name for himself and making sure he has control over how others see him.

Then post-mothening. Things get interesting, since he can’t hide that he’s a giant fluffy mothman who is sometimes on the news for trying to flood Gotham City with mutant moths. You get tourists wanting to take pictures with him, you get people approaching him to ask him if he’s THAT Killer Moth. But also kids who are so wide eyed seeing a big fluffy mothman and wandering up to him to ask questions. 🥺 None of it super bothers him though… he’s finally being seen as how he wants to be seen.

It was not difficult to hear the man speaking about his financial troubles. With how loud and booming his voice was, the true difficulty was avoiding it. But the story she overhears tugs at Deirdre's heartstrings. She does not know what it is to want for gold but she does know that she can help.

"Forgive me," her voice is soft, almost shy as she approaches him. "I could not help but overhear that you are in need of aid. If you would allow it, I would like to help." With a smile, she digs her hand deep into her pocket to retrieve a handful of loose coins with some interesting pebbles, a few dried flowers, and a hard candy mixed in. She reaches for his hand with her free hand, fills his palm with the assortment, and gently closes his fist with both her hands.

"Try not to spend it all in one place," she smiles softly. It is hardly the amount of money that could be spent in more than one place but she does not realize this.

"Allow it? Lady, I'd welcome it!" 

If there is one sound in this world that can truly captivate Balthus, it is the clinking of coins. They are a wellspring of hope, a promise of prosperity, and their clatter against the wood of his stall sends his heart into a flurry of– 

There are like, six. 

He frowns. He feels like he’s been swindled, somehow. “That all you got?” He asks, and worry not, Balthus is self aware. He understands that that’s a rude thing to ask–especially of someone with such kindness in her heart. And so he blinks really hard and waves his hands in front of him. “I mean don’t get me wrong, I’ll take it for sure, just… Uh…” 

Looking at it a second time doesn’t fatten the pot. As the meager amount enters his hands, he can’t help but wonder if Deirdre would need the money more than him. She looks noble enough, sure, but so does Constance, and she’s broke. Plus, what was that bit about not spending it in one place? Surely a joke. He couldn't save it even if he tried!

He turns over the wrapping on the candy, reading its label with the squint of his eyes. “...Got anything that tastes like mint?”

ren has had a number of partners in the past, and so has had multiple experiences with valentines day, ranging from "that was... fine...!" to "DISASTER" :'( he tried to make up for a socially isolated childhood by finding Someone. Anyone. to be in a relationship with, and he'd often flip from completely overdoing things to trying to play it too casual. his partners would inevitably leave feeling some level of disappointed... so the day's somewhat tainted by bad memories. that plus his general negative feelings towards holidays (family shit yippee) makes valentines supremely stressful for him, even though the /CONCEPT/ of the day seems nice! it takes someone with similar social expectations and views of most holidays (hieeeeee. smile.) to finally find a good middle ground approach to the day that works for both of us!.... it still stresses him out though. poor thing. 😫

Chocolate Cosmos: If your f/o was talking about you to someone like a close friend, how exactly would they talk about you? How would they describe you? Characterize you? And how often do they talk about you to other people?

before dating, doc! and v!ren spend a lot of time trying to avoid the fact that he likes me (doesn't want a repeat of past bad relationships, doesn't want to ruin something good, etc), so i feel like he's the "oh they're such a fun FRIEND, i love being their FRIEND, my FRIEND ro showed me this thing--" type, like he's trying to convince himself that that's how he sees me. most others see right through him though KJASNDKJN. r!ren doesn't have as many hangups about his relationships so he's more straightforward. if he was talking to his coworkers, he'd keep things to a Normal level. he'd mention me if he needed to refer to me for something ("oh, ro said that movie was good, do you recommend it too?" "ro and i went to a botanical garden this weekend, how about you?"), though if he was watching me stream art during a lunch break and someone asked about it, he'd fawn over me ("YEAH it's cool right? that's my FRIEND ro, they drew all of these things, look look look you can see them drawing now, they're--") kJNASDKJN. around his sister, though? no holds barred. she's the one who puts it in his head that he's ALLOWED to try romance again, and that i seem sensible and that we'd be fairly attuned to each other, so ofc she's the one he always goes to if he needs to gush. i think he'd focus on my perseverance and passion, but also my art skills, the efforts i've made to improve myself, the "gap moe" between my resting blank face vs my care for others + excitement over my interests, and uhhhhh how cute he thinks i am KJNSKJN. and i think he'd want to stress how much calmer he feels in our relationship. his past relationships all ended up being pretty shallow and unhealthy because he wasn't in the right mindset for it. now that he has a relationship that, even on days when we don't agree w each other, is infinitely healthier and easier... he wants anyone listening to know that i'm irreplaceable to him.

Maroon: What are both of your love languages? How much do they clash and/or mesh with each other?

his are quality time + physical touch, mine is acts of service. i feel like we've worked things out pretty well, actually! when he's done with work, we'll spend the evening just sitting together, snuggling and enjoying each others' company and catching up on each others' days. i like to cook nice meals for him when i can; no matter which ren it is, he could use a little extra nutrition sjkdfn. if i'm in his place, i also like to tidy up while he's out, and with my health situation, i deeply appreciate when he goes out of his way to bring things to me or help clean things around my place when i can't get up ;;; 😭 and we'll sometimes do things that combine all of our languages together!! once in a while, we'll take a night to shower together, one of us sitting in a shower chair while the other thoroughly washes their hair and body, massaging their scalp and helping them relax, and then we switch places. then we get into soft pjs, dry each others' hair, maybe continue with some skincare... yknow. just. spending time really focusing on each other, connecting physically in a non-sexual way, and doing something kind to help let out tension. 🥺💕

what do you think revalink's baby would be like? would it be a rito or a hylian would it be blood related to either link or revali? do you think they would get a surrogate? i wanna write a baby revalink fic but i'm still not sure what kind of baby they would have

ooh I've never thought abt it before! I feel like they'd probably choose to adopt an orphan? since they're both canonically orphans bc I said so and they know how it felt to try and survive in a world that is not kind to those without parents, they want to be able to protect other kids from having to know that pain if they can help it 🥹

their first child is a rito, who was orphaned at a young age bc the single mother died shortly after childbirth :'( normally when a fledgeling is left without parents in rito village the community tries their best to collectively raise the fledgeling, but as we've seen with revali, this doesn't work out very well as the fledgeling doesn't receive the proper attention or care they need to develop. so when link and revali hear about the young orphan, they volunteer to take her in as their own. don't ask me name of the kid though bc idk AJDBAJDH

they live together as a small happy family for several years. ofc as new parents, link and revali have some struggles, but they're able to talk with other parents like saki and teba and amali about parenting tips. link also learns a lot more about rito culture and what is traditional when raising a fledgeling (don't ask me what these traditions and cultures are idk man💀). revali is also learning about a lot of these for the first time because he was never really raised in a traditional way and didn't realize parental figures were supposed to do all these things because certainly no one did for him :((

one day on one of their travels together (they left their fledgeling at home because they knew there would be monsters on the road and they didn't want to put their daughter in any potential danger🥺🥺) they see a camp of monsters off the side of the road. they go to fight them, but as they move closer, they realize the monsters had taken a little hylian toddler and were harassing and attacking him, and suddenly link is remembering his own childhood, powerless against monsters and hylian bullies alike, so alone and afraid, and link is moving before he can realize what is happening, his head buzzing with the only thought to protect the kid. revali quickly moves to back him up in the fight, and it's over in a matter of minutes.

there's a treasure chest that unlocks when all the monsters are killed, but link couldn't care less about that, he's rushing towards the boy to see if he's okay or injured, if his parents are around, and the toddler can only look up at him helplessly, eyes wide and tear-filled, so clearly and incredibly alone and abandoned. link turns to revali, who has been watching this exchange, and says, "we have to take him in."

revali knows the look in link's eyes, the face of someone remembering their past, the same face link wakes up with after nightmares of the calamity. he knows they both have a chance to protect this boy from a life on the streets, from being tormented by the evils that lurk on the streets and in civilizations, and so they decide to bring the boy home with them.

when they return to rito village, they introduce their daughter to the boy. she's still very young, so they do their best to explain how they found him without the traumatizing details, but when they tell her that he will be joining their family, she holds the boy in her arms and looks up at them reverently, whispering, "I'm going to be a big sister?" with joy in her eyes.

and relief floods revali and link, knowing that their family is going to be okay, that they'll all be able to take care of each other, that their children will be raised with the support only siblings can provide, that they will cherish this family forever. it's not a perfect family, and it's certainly not borne of blood relations, but the emotional bond they all have with each other is stronger than blood could ever be
