I love how so much of the Fallout show fandom/enjoyers want season 2 to be a road trip with the three main characters, Dane, Thaddeus, Norm and Dogmeat/CX404.
I need a fanfic of this asap.

over the years experts have speculated on what makes a tv series great, but they've all missed a really important correlating factor, and thats fred armisen showing up for about 15 seconds to do an intricately crafted bit of madness
if your show has fred armisen acting a funky little freak we're gonna have a good time
(i would like for him to show up in the next series as a slightly different radio host with a fixation on a different niche genre, and for him to completely deny all knowledge of dj carl of fort fiddle) (sort of like a post apocalyptic mlepclaynos)

Back to report that I have seen the first episode of the Fallout tv show on Amazon Prime and it fucking slaps. Along with this, The Last of Us (HBO), Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, Arcane: League of Legends (obviously), and many more, we can now say for certain that we are in the un-official golden era of video game adaptations (at least if it stays the course *knock on wood*).

I watched the Fallout Show
It was good.
Certainly better than I was expecting. The lore-stuff was a bit all over the place. It's plausible for the Enclave to still be around. I guess that villain reveal at the end does make sense in hindsight with the rest of the games. I liked the cyclops guy more than I thought I would. I liked how culty the BoS was, as they should be. I liked the gulpers too and how they came back around, it initially didn't click with me at first that it was a gulper, I thought it was like a centaur or something at first. The effects were great; practical, CGI, or otherwise. It's cool they got the original VA for the Mr. Handies to play an in-universe actor for Mr. Handy. I wish we could've heard more from the east coast, but maybe that'll be later on; I actually like the Minutemen, there was one instance where it had me smiling and hopeful, but I'm also from New England so I might be biased.
EDIT: I am being told that he is not the original VA. I heard somewhere that he was, and I took that at face value without fact-checking.

There was a post saying how nice Danse can be randomly which I liked so I’m putting what it made me think of in contrast in a separate post.
Danse is so fucking evil sometimes man. After having a full bittersweet conversation with a living breathing human being who you reconcile with and invite to your home to live with you because he is lost and lonely Danse says, while the guy is still right there,
“That thing shouldn’t be living anywhere. It should be put out of its misery.”
THAT’S A PERSON MAN!!!! That’s a fucking person!!!!! That is a human being with radiation burns you fucking freak. Like holy shit the Brotherhood is evil but so is Danse himself and he would have continued to be evil forever if **spoiler warning** he hadn’t found out he was a synth.
I’m not a Danse hater but this happens to so many people he meets all throughout the game and we need to keep in mind just how horrible of a person he can be and is for the majority (if not all depending on your route) of the game.

I have seen people complain about Maximus so much, specially on TikTok, but even here where freak little weirdos kind of reign he’s not getting the recognition he deserves, because where are the post about him??? I love that dude, that’s my little freaking weirdo, he’s so weird, so lovable, brings the comic relief and is still super complex. That’s my guy right there!

absolutely loved the way maximus was written in the show. like yeah they could’ve done the super serious soldier type who is incapable of really processing his emotions but instead we got a whole segment of the show dedicated to maximus discovering the wonders of caviar and oysters.

You guys know how the BoS radio signal in Cambridge starts with “to any unit in transmission range” right?
I just realized that they weren’t just yelling into the void hoping for the best, they were trying to contact PALADIN BRANDIS AND RECON SQUAD ARTEMIS in a last ditch effort :(

A Messy List of Deacon Headcanons
just things I think about… haha
also if you want a list like this for other companions, please send them to my inbox!
he has really bad insomnia
like seriously, his body has changed over the years to be compatible with his 1-to-2-hours-a-day sleep schedule
he usually sleeps standing up in HQ when he has nothing to do
he has the ability to strikingly change his voice
he doesn’t do it anymore though
for a while after he joined the railroad he seriously considered being a synth
he flinches a lot, though he’s good at hiding it
when someone yells his name, when sole slaps his shoulder, or when there are sudden gunshots
but he’s so strategic with his next move that sole never seems to notice
his sunglasses are barbara’s
he knows how to play the guitar, barbara taught him
he has a habit of disappearing sometimes — usually to have a quick panic attack he feels coming on
he’s been getting them ever since he joined the UP Deathclaws
he has them less now, but they’re still around
he actually likes danse after blind betrayal
he has a huge hang-up over being accepted, that’s (part) of what turned him into a compulsive liar
if someone doesn’t like him he will literally toil over it. he has entire conversations with himself trying to find what part of him is lacking and lie his way into fixing it
especially danse. he pretends like it’s fine but it really bothers him that this guy didn’t even give him a chance to make a good impression
he is touch starved because he hasn’t allowed himself to get close to anyone since barbara
until sole, ofc
the dude doesn’t cry. not until his body literally forces him into some kind of momentary breakdown
drummer boy annoys him
he spend a lot of time around settlements that he’d never seen a real deathclaw until he joined the railroad
he’s younger than everyone thinks
he was kinda scared of desdemona at first, and definitely of glory
but when did he do? lie and play it cool. they ended up liking him
when sole takes him to university point it gets a little hard for him to breathe
he would fall in love with the sole survivor even if they didn’t romance him, just because he found himself again when he was with them
sometimes, every now and then, he tells sole a true thing that he saw or did. it makes it a bit easier to tell the truth when the person you’re talking to thinks you’re lying

So, I'm of two minds about the Brotherhood of Steel plotline. On one hand I expected more, but I also expected maybe too much, and I don't think they really delivered what I wanted. But on the other hand, they were still one of the most compelling storylines in my opinion.
When the Brotherhood arrives in Fallout 4, they start sending out parties to "clean up the Commonwealth", and unless you've made enemies of them, they don't attack civilians. They're there to "help". You'll just be running around the open world, hear gunfire, and then check your targets because there's one or two guys in power armor and a couple of subordinates, all with NPC (aka not hostile) bars, just there to wreck every hostile in their way. It was a powerful feeling to be like, "Oh crap, there's BoS here. Tread lightly and don't accidentally hit them and bring down the thunder." They were impenetrable but clear in intent. I didn't have to start a war with them, but I did have to stay out of their way.
And so yeah, I was a little disappointed at the choice to make them all hypocrites and idiots whose belief only holds so far as they fear reprisals for disobeying. I think they wanted to tell a story about the toxicity and cult-like mentality of military culture which uses fear and intimidation to force people to act on their worst impulses, and yeah that's real and yeah it was very interesting to watch... I just wanted the zealots. I wanted the true believers. See, I found the Brotherhood so interesting and frightening not because they were spouting a bunch of stuff they didn't even believe, but because they did believe it. Whereas in the show, every BoS character seemed like an opportunist. I understand they even referenced this with the elder saying they'd lost their way. And perhaps a new wave of zealotry is forming for the next generation, but that didn't seem to be his implication, which was more like, "We lost our way, fine, let's drop the act and just get messy."
I don't think the way they did it was more or less realistic, it's just where they decided to take it and the story they wanted to tell. I am interested to see if as Maximus gets dragged further in if we see more of that side of it, the knights who actually, fervently believe in "the cause" and that warped, rigid idea of duty and honor, not just bullies in power armor looking for any excuse to hit something. Because I find the former much more frightening than the latter.
