She sighed in contentment as she leaned a little heavier against his side, snuggling into him.

When he had suggested a little cave exploration, she had been more than a little dubious. Caves just… weren’t really her thing. They were dark. They were cold. They were claustrophobic. 

But he had been so excited at the prospect of exploring this cave with her. A little too excited. Enough so that she had been suspicious. But she hadn’t wanted to disappoint him. So she had allowed him to lead her through the cave, their fingers tangled together as they picked through way through twisting tunnels and mazes of stalagmites. 

As it turned out, her suspicions had been well founded. 

Because they hadn’t been exploring. He had known exactly where he had been taking her. 

Crystals of every colour shone softly with a light of their own, casting the cavern they had found themselves in—be his design—in a hazy, technicolour glow. The small waterfall that trickled down one wall of the cave caught the light of the crystals in a way that made it look like a rainbow was cascading down the rocks. The notes he was plucking from his lyre bounced off of the cavern’s walls, echoing and blending with the trickling of the falling water. 

It was anything but dark, cold, and claustrophobic. 

“It’s beautiful,” she murmured before leaning up to press a kiss to his cheek. 

His hands froze on his lyre as her lips brushed against his cheek, but the echos of his playing carried on.

I came up with this incredibly indulgent theory/au for trans!Cesare's backstory after watching Benedetta (it's a movie based on a true story about medeival lesbian nuns if ur into that) where he's afab and sent to a nunnery as a young child by his wealthy family who gives generous monthly donations to the abbey to boost their public image, but he escapes as a teen and starts dressing and living as a boy in order to get an apprenticeship with a carpenter, and eventually inherits the shop and starts selling marionettes exclusively. After running it for a few decades, he's mugged and gutted one night by a stranger, and his body is thrown into a canal. No one ever recovers it, because bodies get dumped in the canals on like a weekly basis and people living nearby just don't even bother to report it to the authorities anymore.

Rock bottom for George looks like this: he's healthy, he's on a new vegan diet Lewis swears by, he has a lemon water first thing in the morning for antioxidants or whatever, he's going to the gym 4 times a week and a run in the morning, his grades tread that A minus curve 3.7 GPA carefully, and he's in charge of Student Relations -- practically asked to throw parties every other week he disappears from. By all measures and accounts, every professor who is impressed, every casual acquaintance who pats him on the back, his parents' monthly cheque depositing in his account -- he's doing fucking swell, he's leading a charmed life. If a bus hit George on his way to campus, he'd probably thank the driver and apologize for bleeding out.

Sometimes he feels like the world's most successful actor, running a one man production on the West End -- like he's not constantly tearing apart at the seams, terrified he will shatter if someone sees through the act. There's also creeping resentment, at his professors' buying his flimsy excuses for an extension without probing why, at his friends he grabs lunch with and never wondering how come he never seems to eat anything except a green juice, at his parents -- for not noticing. How could anyone see him and not see a man falling apart, the people closest to him, the people who were supposed to love him.

George feels like a man on the run, constantly, as if he's getting away with something he shouldn't -- that if he stops for one second too long, someone will notice there is something fundamentally off about him, and no amount of perfection on paper could erase the big ugly mark on his psyche. He googled signs of multiple mental illnesses before he went into his yearly mental health check up -- telling himself, it's kind of like studying for a test, knowing what to avoid, even if he identified painfully with them. Getting a clean bill of health only affirmed that he passed, with only a note stating he should sleep more.

He's at a party, the Student Body organized it -- he shows up, smiles at the people who know of him, makes sure he's in some of the pictures that will get tagged and storied -- a, "We have to hang out soon! After midterms, yeah?" that he fully intends to not follow up on, and leave, obsessively keeping track of people's socials later that night, in case he misses some next big thing the campus will be buzzing about. George was h there, right? Surely, you remembered seeing him around.

George is holding a beer, shitty pop music blaring, going over to hi and trying to tune out the multiple conversations -- who got broken up with, which team won which match, the food at the cafeteria sucked today -- the most mundane shit that left him bitterly jealous that all these people were out here living life. Like, really truly being alive. He can't remember the last time he didn't feel like a marionette puppet, he had thought getting into Cambridge would've been it, his father saying he's proud of him. But as George had held the acceptance letter, scanning it over and over again, he had felt nothing. He couldn't even remember why he wanted to get into Cambridge so badly, his one goal that would justify it all — all the sleepless nights and A'Levels hell and the extracurriculars he didn't care about to polish his application — and then, here he was; living his childhood dream, a hell of his own making.

Lewis had forwarded him an article about vegan beer and how most alcohol filtration process has gelatine or some animal based product, so George wasn't touching his -- out of principle. Not that he really cared, his parents had a mountain lion mounted in the living room his father shot during a conservation charity trip, so pretty sure that disqualified any animal activism from George's end. But it was one less thing to think about, if he wasn't supposed to drink the beer, so he clutched on to it tightly like a lifeline, unsipped. Despite not a drop of alcohol in him, his head felt dizzy, cheeks hurting from smiling at the people going, "Russell!" like it meant something, a girl trying to prolong conversation with interested eyes that George has to politely step out of; and almost tripped over someone.

"Hey, got you." The hand on his wrist that kept him from falling was attached to a body, a handsome tan man with brown eyes looking at him with genuine concern. Albon, Alexander George's memory supplied, aerospace engineering major, and George remembers because he's also in the rugby team -- recalls him taking his shirt off after a win, running to his team. He's bloody fit, and even though he's in loose fitting blue knitwear jumper now George can't help but look, know the hard, defined lines underneath, can feel the strength of just one hand easily holding George upright and is immediately ashamed of himself for knowing, for looking. He's glad the party is lit low that his reddening face isn't as obvious.

George catches himself, grateful he didn't spill any of the beer, and mumbles a thanks, the hand of his wrist which had practically branded him -- or how it felt like -- letting go easily. He was readying himself to engage in proper noncommittal small talk, to be a normal human person — congratulate him on the game, how's he enjoying the party, to see him around campus and maybe they can hang after midterms.

Alex catches him off guard before he can launch into his well practised rehearsed lines. "You doing okay, mate? You look like you could use a breather." He says it without a tone of judgement, easy eye smiles.

No, George wants to say. There's a breath caught in his chest. He could use a breather. He's been holding a breath inside for so long, his lungs threaten to burst.

Who the hell are you?

George's 15 minutes are up. He feels like Cinderella after midnight, being caught in his ruse, and if Alex and his big brown kind eyes look at him a second longer George might start crying, or twist and turn not knowing what to do with himself, using his intestines as a rope to choke himself with.

"I'll see you around." He says in a rush, knows how disparaging and impolite it comes across and makes a mental note to actually say hi at campus when he sees him next to make up for it, before he shoves Alex aside to leave.

Technology in Tyria: Waypoints (headcanons) + a little bit on other stuff.

As we all have noticed, Tyria is full of waypoints, bah, we can even help placing some in Dragonfall! We can sometimes see NPCs walking towards them and disappear in the blue light. During LWs1, at the end of Marionette battle event, we can hear Taimi and Logan talk. He tells her he will escort her and she tells him she will go only if he handles waypoint fees.

So, a question popped up in my mind: how do waypoint fees actually work?

We know, that they are asuran devices - so it would be logical for the money going straight to asuran pockets, right? I mean, they need to be maintained, and so do the asura gates. But about AG later. Now - waypoints. So, by waypointing we feed Phlunt. But how is the money collected?

And here I'm using readmore becausue this? this is LONG.

So, I have this headcanon that each waypoint has a little guy like this!

These folks ask you about your destination, they will tell you the Waypoint name and if the WP is available. STH like this:

Golem: The-cost-of-travel-is-4-silver. Please-choose-payment-option. Option-one: The-Fast-Travel-Waypoint-Card. Option-two: Charge-Bank-Account. Option-three: coin-exchange.

The Fast Travel Waypoint Card (FTW for short) is something like a Public Transport Card. You pay a monthly fee for unlimited travel. Fee depends on the option the traveller chooses when buying/refreshing their card: a region specific (Kryta-Ascalon-Maguuma-Shiverpeaks), all regions, work days only, etc. Please note that FTW only covers CORE GAME maps. To unlock other regions one has to pay for each region, or buy a region pack. Please note that region packs concern mostly LWs3 locations, since other seasons majorly happen in single areas. IBS takes place in Ascalon and Shiverpeaks. So one can either pay for Region Pack or unlock Ascalon and Shiverpeaks separately.

"Isn't this too complicated?"

I don't know, ask some asura, it's them who get all the gold, not me. I'm just breaking down the system for you.

Charging one's bank account demands a bank card/ID - they both are very similar, it's possible to find one's bank account in the data base with ID, so that works. And coin exchange is, well, coin exchange. Golem will ask you to put some coins in the designated place and you're good to go.

Okay, so we have that covered. Remember how I said that FTW only covers core game locations? Well I HAVE A REASON FOR THAT TOO!

Why wasn't the Heart of Maguuma explorable before? I headcanon that simply the journey through the wastes was really dangerous and only some adventurers dared to go that far. There are no waypoints there, except for Tangled Depths - asura used to live there, so there are waypoints, but the technology is much older and attuned differently, just to match this old asuran tech. They had to be reattuned to work with other waypoints or exchanged to newer tech. Waypoints in Heart of Maguuma are placed strategically, post Mordremoth's defeat. In Dragon's Stand I imagine they were putting waypoints on the spot, just like you do it in Dragonfall.

Living World season 3! We are all over the place, but one out of all the maps should have the waypoints from the start - Lake Doric (code name: Lake Dorky). So why can't we access it prior? Let's note that Lake Dorky is quite isolated. You can't get there from Harathi or Queensdale (unless you're Caudecus, that is) and only way to get there is through DR. Lake Doric is quite a small area, so maybe they thought "they can just walk" and waypoints were placed, yet again, similarly to the ones in Dragonfall.

Okay, so what about Cantha? They have waypoints!

Yes, but Canthan technology is quite different from Tyrian. Let's compare the two lands - in Tyria we have FIVE angry Elder Dragons. We have civil wars, treaties, fights for territory. Each region has their own forces of authority, some people are united by the Orders and later on, the Pact brings people together. Let's please look at the lines from cinematics that you get when you enter an order.

Order of Whispers: Only the Order of Whispers stands between civilisation and ruin. [...] It doesn't matter where the dragons came from, or why they awakened. The secrets we discover will help us send them back to hell.

Durmand Priory: "Your power is only equal to the sum of your knowledge." If that's true, then we're Tyria's best hope to survive the darkness gathering on the horizon.

The Vigil: The Vigil was created to fight the dragons. To destroy them before they destroy us.

"But, Eyris, what does it have to do with Tyrian vs Canthan tech?"

I'm glad you asked! You see, Tyrian tech focused on war, survavibility. Please notice that when Mordremoth rises, Taimi starts working on a machine to save the waypoints from that one hungry boy. Ever since you start your journey - you constantly have to do things to keep the world in balance, first within your homelands, then with the order you chose, and then you fight Zhaitan.

Tyrian technology has an entirely different focus than Canthan. Tyrians focused on war and crisis. Canthans focused on changing life. Holonews. Microwaves. Decorative fish holograms. Jadebots that can fight but normally don't.

Canthans have been protected by an Elder Dragon. They have protection from corruption through all those years, when in Tyrians witness their loved ones turn into risen while holding them in their arms (it's somewhere in Sea of Sorrows novel, it's a good novel, strongly recommend).

"But Eyris, HOW DOES IT CONNECT TO WAYPOINTS?!"

Shush, I'm getting there. So, I dare say Tyrian tech is more durable and dependable than jade tech. I mean, we don't have power shortages in Rata Sum, do we? Two techs are different, so they work differently. What a shocker, I know! We couldn't just waypoint to Cantha before because the waypoints were not alligned and connected!

Needless to say, in Cantha you need a jadebot to use waypoints. Jadebot does everything. It's your friend, is it not? It takes care of your taxes, fees, schedules - I dare say it's like a phone to some extent.

And communicators? It seems not everyone in Tyria has a device like that and the commander is free to chat with everyone without any issues (we even tell Livia to go meet up with Taimi to get a com because she doesn't have one). But in Cantha? I bet people hear the commander and company talk and think "oh, a new podcast? But why on this frequency?", all because in Cantha communication divices are ordinary and it takes time for Taimi to encrypt it.

This is how I imagine waypoints work, these are some additional points that have been in my brain for a while, a big shout out to @foxholemonster and @thedreamsofgods for talking to me about Tyrian/Canthan tech some time ago, without them this post wouldn't be possible. Soo I’ve not posted much OC character stuff of recent as I’m still writing the second chapter of The Lord of Wet and Pyro Princess Adventures (Genshin Ayato x Diluc fanfic I’m having a lot of fun with as I’m back in ~Genshin playing mode~ since I invested a bunch in the game and it’s also the Lantern Rite time of year again, a favourite of mine).

I’ve had a request to finish my WattPad Kaze fanfic too, which I’ll try and deliver but I got kinda stick in the basement scene lmfao as writing Zero as a top is so odd for me even though I Want It to happen.

I’ve wanted to get out some Kaze stuff as not as many people post it anymore and I’ve realised there’s still a big fandom community for Vampire Knight which is excitingg! I might move it over to Ao3 once I have time.~

I’ve been a little busy planning and “making the art” and custom credit card designs as well as payment plan ideas not too mention considering setting up an Etsy or Fiverr or somewhere people have more access to than pixiv as setting up my regular posting on my pixivFANBOX and trying to build a schedule for Saturdays whilst juggling my physical/mental health and transition as well as parenting and socialising more. Basically I want a gallery of stuff to trickle out rather than doing it every week under pressure rather than when it comes to me, as whenever I have pressure to deliver I lose my imagination and just feel like it’s a chore so avoid it. I’m sure other creatives can relate!

Likewise I’m sitting back and reading again to unwind again and haven’t caught up with everything I’m reading yet but I’ve got numerous things In The Works I’m taking more time on rather than rushing out chapters such as:

• The NYE one shot for Orange Juice in the Studio~

• Chapter 3 “A Date In The City” of Orange Juice in the Studio, essentially the ~teaser~ Aquarium and ice cream parlour date where I finally introduce supporting character into the actual story who works at the parlour! I don’t know when I’ll be introducing Mama but they are on the horizon for sure. I’m currently busy researching real locations in Valencia and I’ve never been so I don’t have in person reference and am sourcing that online. I’m also researching top LGBT+ hang out locations/clubs in the city to make appearances in the storyline.

• ORANGE JUICE IN THE STUDIO CHARACTER INFO SHEETS!!! Exciting.

Here I’ll give lots of what you need to know about OC and Reader! I’m wondering if I should not make one though for Reader or ask for engagement from my actual readers of Who Reader Is To Them, as well, the whole point of the character is to depict You as a reader, and those who relate to what I write can get on board. I will make a mock up one for sure and be loose with it as a rule! Or leave out absolute details like “star sign” or height or something.~

• Beginning work on the AU “HorrorLand! The Isle of Marionettes”! This will be about the Orange Juice OCs. As you can tell, it’ll be slightly gory horror fiction, somewhere to express my love for horror and things but not canon. Just a little fun.

• Designing what will be in my monthly newsletter which only Bronze subscribers will get for yours truly to enjoy!

• Weekly updates to my pixivFANBOX, with my manga style art specifically. My pixivFANBOX is for my manga art style only, my other types of art can be found on zer0comicz IG, and Zer0 Comics on Facebook, or posted on here. This is my official name for my freelance illustration/comic business.

• I’ll try getting some new commissions up I’ve got of OC and Reader on here and/or on @crimsonyoukai , if not that, I’ll make some mock ups on PiCrew whilst I’m doing my own.

• Tiered FANs will be getting The Monthly Marionette+, this begins after the first month of being a patron on Bronze, Silver (to be set up) and Gold (to be set up). I’ll announce when the newsletter is starting to air!

so this month I learned what happens when I really commit to a daily challenge... feels like the equivalent of a full-time job.

first the missing days: 19 and 29 when I got to 29 I was going to do something, thinking, who would be a hot villain that's not immediately obvious and super popular? drew a blank (i'm not usually drawn to villains) and I was thinking I wanted to draw a woman this time but there are so few attractive women villains who aren't dressed skimpy which just kinda puts me off from their design. it just passed me by and tbh was I missing much considering the fact that i'd been drawing hot villains all month and all last month too? wheh

for day 19 I neglected to make a drawing because the prompt was doll/marionette and, well

I was actually in the middle of customizing a doll.

unfortunately I couldn't finish it up, even by the end of the month, so we will see the results of that later.

next the days I got stuck on: 14, 17 14, candygore, is so beyond my wheelhouse i just felt a strong aversion to drawing it. the end result was so unbelievably tropey i just feel a sense of repulsion looking at it. the only thing i kind of like about that drawing are the teeth

17 I couldn't get the Look I wanted, at all, even if the drawing is nice. also, the perspective on the character on the left is off, and it feels like his eyes aren't fitting his face properly.

MLP day I just don't like drawing horses in general so I decided I would still go for it but combine it with the gijinka day, which comes immediately after. or before. whatever the order, the Pinkie Pie gijinka is both prompts in one.

Posting them late Now I did do most of them on the day they were to be done, what helped me accomplish that was planning my drawings ahead of time by sketching them out in a document and then pulling from the sketches on the day the drawings had to be done. but I didn't do all of my sketches at the start in the beginning, so when I started to run out of preplanned sketches is when I started falling behind! So I could definitely stand to do a little more prep if I do another monthly challenge.

The ones cobbled together last minute today Day 30 I did draw on the 30th, but on paper. was gonna post the paper version but I did end up ruining it by going over it with gel pens. So I went over it digitally, quickly, just to have the image up. and day 31 I was... a bit sad cuz I didn't get to give out candy cuz my dad hates kids. and also still working on my doll. so I wasn't feeling Halloweeny yesterday but I cobbled up something today. weh

But at the end of the day. It was so much work I don't even know if I'll ever do it again

Fresh Finds - April

A review of all the kpop songs released in April that made it to my (not super selective) kpop playlist

Wildside - Red Velvet. April 6. Title track of their first Japanese album, Bloom. Ambivalent at first but it grew on me. Gotta love those SM vocals on the chorus.

Marionette - Red Velvet. April 6. First track on Bloom. Instantly piqued by that gentle music-box intro exploding open. Mysterious, a little bit sexy, excellent.

Love Dive - Ive. April 5. Didn't expect to like it because I didn't like Eleven, but gave it a listen because I like songs from that general concept. Fell in love with "Narcissistic, my God I love it." Wonyoung's accent is so good (very valley girl lol), her expressions are amazing, and her face is the cherry on top. I absolutely despise the bridge (*random whistle* *whisper whisper* *more whistle*) but overall solid song.

C.I.T.T (Cheese in the Trap) - Moonbyul. April 28. Liked Lunatic so I gave it a listen. Instantly liked it. Fun, little funky, poppy, chorus is powerful and indeed caught me off-guard like a mouse in a cheese trap lol.

Ganji (feat. Jessi) - Psy. April 29. A bit of a grower since I don't tend to like male vocals, but my god Jessi's verse slapped. The instrumental really helped–that low drum giving way to Jessi's deep voice was killer. Plus I knew that line from the interview.

Everyday - Psy. April 29. We've established that I like genre mixes so long as they're things I like. While this isn't a genre mix it kinda feels like that. We've got the melodic verses, a little ballad-like (yay singing), the EDM sea shanty chorus (see: Adios, Rockstar Sea Shanty), and the bridge which is weirdly eerie and haunting and a little creepy even. But I like it! So yes, ballad + EDM sea shanty + creepy children's refrain is somehow a thing that I enjoy. Given that the song is about that summer festival he did I hope he uses it as the opener for whenever he does it again.

This is a new monthly thing I'm doing, but I want to mention some songs from March since that's still recent: Tomboy, Never Stop Me, Villain Dies, Liar - (G)I-DLE, Wonderland - AleXa, In My Dreams - Red Velvet, Honey, Raw, Big Booty - Solar. Quite a bit more, and I expected more from April ngl. Notable mention from April is Miyeon's Drive and Te Amo. They didn't make it to the playlist but still enjoyed them.

I have high hopes from May. We got Lesserafim, TXT, Classy, TNX, Ateez, maybe more that haven't been announced yet. So hopefully I have at least 5 songs to add to my playlist!

The idea here is that Spamton’s white outer ‘skin’ conceals an endoskeleton, and that he is actually an extremely advanced marionette created by a mysterious entity (Mike, who we never meet and is never seen) to be the perfect performer. After that creator’s disappearance, Spamton floundered on stage, and was, in reality, pushed into the acid by the Mansion’s previous owners, who eventually are driven off by his madness and succeeded by King Spades and Queen after they become the new managers.

Because what good is a puppet that can’t perform?

Ironically, cutting his metaphorical strings of the place allowed him to truly flourish as a singer, as well as a violent, malevolent force.

Taichi: So a game magazine?

Itaru: Too bad. The correct answer is this.

Izumi: "Monthly Doll Holic"...?

Itaru: It's a doll-specific magz. I ordered it online since there aren't any stores selling this magz nearby.

My role in this play is a dollmaker, but dolls are like a whole new world for me.

I know how to handle figz, but it's a different story when it comes to dolls since they feel different to me.

Tasuku: Heh, you're preparing for your role seriously. That's surprising.

Itaru: Omit the "surprising" part pretty please. It's unnecessary.

...Oh. This is a doll of a character from a certain classic RPG.

Izumi: Heh, I didn't know there's such a thing like that too.

Itaru: Welp, I kinda expected it but it really is pricey.

Taichi: Is it really that expensive… Whoa!? There's a whole lot of zeros right there…

Izumi: I've actually also considered purchasing a doll as a prop for this play, but the price was higher than I expected. I was surprised.

I've also thought about renting one, but I can't say that the doll will absolutely not be damaged if we use it during the play.

Besides, there is apparently only one piece of the doll that Homare-san told me about. I don't think we can compensate for the damages so I give up.

Tasuku: Well, it can't be helped…

Taichi: So what do we do about the prop?

Izumi: We have no choice but to make it ourselves.

Itaru: Seriously?

Izumi: I plan to get Yuki-kun and Kazunari-kun help us with that.

Itaru: Don't tell me you're gonna make it right down from the body?
