old hat but I think its so funny that every asoiaf fan just forgot that Littlefinger very obviously told Cersei about Ned's plan to hire the city watch & stage a coup the night before it happened, and instead decided to hyper-focus on blaming Ned's 11 year old daughter for his downfall/death because she blabbed about a boat to the wrong person
Omg I love your art so much I'm more of a proof and numbers person so I really struggle with the freedom of art when I try to make it any tips you can give me pretty please?
omg thank you??!? 😳
hmmm i'm assuming you meant numbers like, social media numbers? it's hard to deal with that in this current state of the internet, especially when you want to pursue art professionally the non traditional way, or to use online space to get to the traditional routes. the creative industry is a bit cooked rn.
i gotta admit it was easier when i was pursuing a different career and my income didn't hinge on how my art is doing online!! you just draw for yourself and draw whatever you like.
it's in the name itself, when it comes to freedom of art, you gotta let it go wild, be free, experiment with medium, try new compositions, new concepts, try what the others are doing, put random things together, they don't even have to make sense or have a specific meaning. but of course it won't always do well, especially when it comes to "proof" or "numbers".
you can chase numbers. however, you won't grow as an artist if you don't get out of your comfort zone, or out of what is liked and expected from you. professionals who are hiring artists want to see fresh and unique work.
it's easy to say "don't worry about what others think" but the reality is, to make it out there, you need an audience, and a substantial amount of people have to like your work for your to take off and reach the right people.
my tip is try to find balance. try pushing yourself to try something new in one or two aspects of your drawing. let's say you know people would like the piece if you draw a fanart, or from a art challenge, then try something new in other aspects of it, maybe try a new color palette, experiment with brush and textures, try different angles, lightings, style, add your own twist to the concept, etc. whatever it is, push yourself to try something new, one at a time.
MOST IMPORTANTLY THOUGH, remember and internalize this: this silly social media numbers game is not indicative of the quality of your work. these numbers depend on so many factors, while skill and ideas are part of them, there are also networking, marketing, presentation, consistency, and lots of LUCK.
so if a piece you're proud of "flops" don't nitpick it, don't be scared to do it again. it's discouraging, yes, but your overall growth as an artist is more important than just online numbers in the long run. others might not see it instantly, but if you are proud of it, that means you are going into the right direction!
Hey what's it like being so swag? The people wanna know! (It's me, I'm people)
I just wanted to drop by and say something silly since I've been lurking following you for a while and your art is such a delight! You've been a huge source of motivation for me to work on improving my own art and keeping up with your fan continuity has been super fun! (I love all of your trans headcanons so much, it's really nice to see people like me)
I was wondering if you had any advice on how to build up confidence with physical art work? I'd like to try and go beyond just pencil sketches but using pens for line art or adding color to a piece can feel so intimidating since that's a lot harder to undo than pencil lines... Part of me knows it'll just take some time and practice but the rest of me can't seem to work up the courage to start anyway (^~^;)ゞ
Regardless, you're very cool and I hope you continue to feel better! Have a nice day/night! :D
First of all, thank you so so much for the kind words! I'm so glad you enjoy all my art and trans headcanons! And I'm so so happy to hear my work has been inspiring you! That makes me so glad to hear. I am very passionate about encouraging other artists to explore and develop their own process and work.
And second, here is my hot tip for building traditional art confidence. And it is...make stuff in mediums you have been hesitating to use. Non-erasable mediums work best for building up confidence. Pens. Markers. Even paint if you prefer. You can find and watch traditional process videos if you want as you do. However, the best way to figure out your favorite way to use art supplies and to figure out how to make it look the way you want is just to experiment.
You may notice that the lines on my traditional pieces are sketchy and not polished lineart. With practice, I figured out how to do that my way and make it visually clear and appealing like I wanted. Sometimes, it really does help to just move out of your comfort zone and say "no pencils and no erasers I gotta be a little messy for a bit". I hope this helps!
And thank you for the well wishes! I hope you have a good day/night too!
I don't know what goat I have to sacrifice to which deity to get Ford to stop calling and texting me thinking I'm my partner (this after speaking to them several times EACH and saying "no, please remove this number and use the other one on file. yes, that one.")
I love how unique your designs are, how do you get idea for them? It makes so much sense, it fits so well, and it’s unique enough to know “hey, I know this!” And it inspires me to draw, to keep trying. I am not that creative in designs, but it makes me realize that I need to take risks. I need to try new things. I know you got a lot of comments, asks, and more like this, but I want to say thank you for helping me find myself. I am trying hard, and it is tough, but you have been inspiring me to keep pressing myself, to keep trying, to take risks and find myself. Sorry if this is sappy. Please, have a good day.
I don’t mind a little sappy! No need to apologize for a heartfelt message.
Trying new things is absolutely key! And I highly recommend taking time to assess your previous designs and drawings as an exercise. Stepping back and looking at it again. Saying to yourself “This design is pretty good but what do I want from it? What do I want to be different about it? What would I change?” and then trying stuff based on your assessment! It also helps to consume media. Look for inspirations. See an artist on tumblr with a cool style? Scroll through their work. See a show with an idea or style that compels you? Watch some of it. Go to a park if you think that’ll be fun. Pop in a museum if you can. It doesn’t have to become your new favorite thing. But watching things critically helps build your creative library! Just keep your keen mind on. “What do I like or not like about the art here? The writing? The characterization?” Helps stretch those creativity muscles. And also just keep making stuff. If you wait until you have the Perfect Creative Vision, you just won’t make anything. A metaphorical pit I’ve fallen into often and still do at times. But you can edit your ideas as much as you want once you form them more! You just need stuff to go off of.
You got this, I’m sure. It’s great that you’re pushing your creativity! And thank you for the kind words! The old askbox is always open for a few art tips. You have a good day too. Stay cool out there!
